Learning to blossom - Chapter 1

Pairing: Levi x Fem!Reader

Genre and tags: Romance, fluff, modern AU, Uni AU, confessions, tattooed Levi, drama, flustered Levi.

Fic concept: You and Levi fall in love after spending so much time together in lectures. As the two of you date, you experience a lot of firsts together such as this being Levi's first-ever relationship and you both are virgins. You face a lot of difficulties, such as a guy who won't leave you alone and spreads rumours about you. A few girls want to be Levi's girlfriend instead of you. A professor of yours seems to be a bit too handsy with you. You both go through different phases of your relationship during your three years at university such as getting a house with friends, graduation, what the future holds, and what you want in your relationship. You both grow together and throughout everything that happens, you love each other so deeply and stay strong.

Chapter: You meet Levi at a party and feelings spark away. You and Levi meet again in a lecture and hit it off. Levi saves you from unwanted advances again and takes you to lunch. You and Levi get closer to each other as sparks fly again. After a month of spending every day together due to doing the same subject as Levi, you both take the plunge and go with your feelings.

Notes: Due to my living in the UK, a lot of university life is inspired by the subjects I took and the life there for me and others. I will sprinkle a bit of USA university life in, but due to my knowledge and experience of that side being from movies and TV shows, I don't want to misrepresent it. Also, Levi plays a popular sport in the UK called rugby, I chose this because I know about it and know nothing about American football. Note for American readers, when I mention football I mean soccer for you. Hope all this helps! If you have questions place them in my comments.

You were not too sure about this all, but your hallmates were adamant that you had to go. So, you were trying your best to dress nicely and put on some makeup. You were just going to go, socialise a bit and then go home. You just really weren’t in the mood for it all, but you needed to make some friends.

You perked up when someone lightly knocked on your room door. You opened it to reveal your neighbour across from you. Athena was so tall compared to you and had muscles too. She had a cheeky smile, always had plasters on her from cuts and her hair was a beautiful orange with the left side shaven and the right side long. She was a beautiful woman and could break anyone easily.

Athena grinned at you and leaned in your doorway. “Sup little cupcake. Woah, you look hot as hell. You aiming to impress?”

You gasped. “Is it too much?”

“Nah, cupcake. You look sexy.” She winked at you. “You’re bell of the ball. Maybe I should run off with ya.”

You giggled. “That’d be fun. Knowing you we’d get up to no good.”

“You’re right.” She shoved her hands into her baggy trouser pockets. “You ready?”

You hummed and checked. “Yeah, I’m good.”

She pointed to your bag. “You ain’t gonna need that. All the drinks are there. Unless you need it?”

You released a long sigh. “Call it a safety blanket.”

“Ah” she tapped the side of her nose “I get ya.” She stepped out of the way as you locked up your room. “You wanna grab coffee tomorrow and explore?”

You nodded and hummed in response. “Please.” You turned to Athena and smiled. “Hey, thanks for being so nice to me and supportive. It means so much to me that you’ve been a friend.”

She slung her arm over your shoulders and smiled. “Don’t mention it. You’re the only interesting person on this floor. The rest of these people are idiots.” She smiled. “You’re cool. You play games and you’re studying criminology.”

You blushed a little and smiled a bit at the annoyed-looking girls living in your hall as you passed. Athena told it like it is and didn’t apologise for anything. You felt safe with her, so you were more than happy to go to a party with her. You knew you were going to have a good time and at least there was someone to talk to. A lot of the time you’d go out with people and they’d just abandon you and you’d get lonely.

You winced a little at the heavy base music getting louder as you approached the halls filled with guys. You saw people hanging around outside the bottom floor halls, along with others sitting in windows. You felt your nerves seeping in as you got closer to the party. The closer you got, the more you didn’t want to be there.

Athena gave you a wiggle. “Cheer up cupcake. We’ll have a few drinks and then leave.”

You released a long sigh. “Yeah.”

She pulled you inside and past the crowded halls until you slipped into the communal kitchen. “Drink?”

You hugged yourself and nodded. “Sure.”

You looked around the room and felt a few stares. You felt as if you were meat up for grabs. You hated it so much. You noticed a guy with arched primed eyebrows, neatly tamed hair, sly eyes with an amber colour, and a thin smirk. He was handsome to most people and likely rich by the looks of his clothes. He was tall and lean with muscle and kept talking to the women around him that he was playing for the university football team.

You wrinkled your nose up in response and only felt irritated by him. You didn’t really want anything to do with a guy like him. You knew the type. He’d sleep around with as many women as possible and didn’t give a shit about them. You hated his kind and just wanted to keep to yourself. Guys like him equalled drama and you just wanted to have a nice three years at uni.

Your blood ran cold when he kept glancing over at you. You were beginning to panic and you were trying your best not to lock eyes. You glared at Athena, but she was still waiting to get drinks. You were slowly leaning towards full panic mode. You fiddled with your clothes as you felt him moving closer to you. You closed your eyes tightly and prayed to whoever was listening to help you.

“Tch, oi?”

You opened your eyes and gazed up at a man in a tight white top, leather jacket and tight black jeans. Your cheeks burned at his slightly tamed messy thick raven hair that was long on his neck. He had little earrings in his ears and you saw a bit of tattoo showing under his jacket. His grey-blue eyes were piercing as they took you in. You shivered when you saw how muscular he was due to his white top stretching over his chest.

He reached up and rubbed the lovely raven locks on the back of his neck. “You wanna come over to the side with my friends?” His cheeks burned a little as he got nervous. “So you uh don’t feel alone.”

You nodded. “Please. I just don’t want to be jumped on by some weirdo.”

He walked with you to the corner of the room where two people were hanging out. “I’m guessing you’re referring to the guy who has a rod up his ass? He’s Reuben and he’s on the university football team. He likes everyone to know. Tch, guys got a personality of football and law.”

You stopped walking and hummed. “He seems like an asshole to me.”

“He is.” He offered his hand. “Levi.”

You shook his hand and gave him your name. “My friend over there is Athena. We won’t be here long because I’d rather be at home wrapped up in a blanket.”

“Sounds nice. I’d prefer that.”

The woman next to him smirked. “He’d prefer to join you!” She offered her hand as Levi shouted at her. “HI! I’m Hange.”

You laughed and shook her hand. “Nice to meet you.”

She winked at you. “You too.”

The big blonde offered his hand. “Mike. Our friend Erwin couldn’t make it tonight, but he’d love to meet you.”

You smiled softly. “Nice to meet all of you.”

Athena strolled over. “Fuck me that took forever. Here you are cupcake.”

You took your cup and smiled. “Appreciate it.” You sipped your drink as everyone introduced themselves. You smiled at your new tall friends chatting away. You felt a gaze on you and noticed Levi kept looking at you. You smiled at him making him blush and look away. You tugged on Athena’s shirt and smiled. “I’m going outside for five minutes.”

Athena winked at you. “Sure thing. Text me if you need me.”

You waved to her and moved through the massive crowds until you got outside. You released a sigh and shook off your anxieties as best as you could. You ruffled your hair and looked around you. You glanced to the side to see Reuben was outside too. You turned away and groaned in annoyance. You pulled your phone out and checked it. You pouted a moment but someone walking over to you made you stiffen up.

You turned and stared up at Reuben. You wrinkled your nose up at the strong cologne coming from him. “Can I help you?”

He lit a cigarette and blew the smoke to the side away from you. “You looked lonely.”

You wafted the air around you. “Just needed fresh air, but you’re kind of making it not.”

He sucked his teeth a little. “My bad. I can’t smoke inside so I have to do it out here.”

You hummed as you stared at the cigarette between his fingers. “Maybe you should quit? It’ll be better for you and you won’t be messing with people’s nice air.” You coughed a little. “Plus, I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t smoke if you’re a footballer.”

He smirked at you. “You know I’m a footballer?”

“Well, it’s hard to miss when you’ve been telling everyone at this party.”

He chuckled. “You’re a spunky little thing, aren’t you?”

You let out a long sigh. “I don’t want to sound rude, but I kind of want a moment to myself.”

He flicked his smoke making the ash tumble. “Am I that bad? Come on, I’m a handsome guy. Just talk to me a bit.”

“No thanks.”

He moved closer. “Come on, let’s talk.”

“No thank you.”

He reached for you. “Come on-. AH! Ow!”

Levi had grabbed Reuben’s hand and bent it backwards causing the cry of pain. “Tch, she said no.”

Reuben winced. “All right! Now let go of me you animal.”

Levi released Reuben and stood between him and you. “Back off and accept the no.”

He chuckled a little and flicked his cigarette at Levi. It bounced off Levi’s incredible chest and dropped to the floor. “Whatever man. You can have her for now.”

“She doesn’t belong to anyone. Fuck, you’re a dick.” Levi flipped him off as the rich pretty boy walked away. “Fuck him.” He turned to you. “You okay?”

You nodded shyly. “Yeah.”

He pulled his leather jacket off and put it around your shoulders and revealed his left arm had tattoos on it. “I’m glad. Try and stay away from him. I know we all started uni a few days ago, but we’re all aware of him.” He blushed. “Not that I’m telling you what to do…”

You reached over and held his soft warm hand with rough parts. “Thank you.”

Levi blushed hard at the sweet contact. “Y-You’re welcome.”

You squeezed his hand and held it for a moment before releasing it. “You’re a nice guy. Thank you for your kindness.”

“CUPCAKE!” Athena ran over to you. “You all right? Do I need to break a face?”

You shook your head. “Levi helped me.”

Athena smirked at the man. “I appreciate it. There should be more guys like you.”

Levi cleared his throat. “I just…I wanted to help.”

Athena pulled you against her body and held you with one arm. “Thank you. You know, we might head back.”

You wiggled out of your friend’s arms and pulled the jacket off. “Here Levi, thanks.”

Levi took his jacket back. “Any time. Do you want escorting back?”

Athena shook her head. “I got this.” She waved and walked with you. “See you soon!”

You waved shyly to Levi. “See you soon.”

Levi waved to you. “Yeah, see ya…” He sighed and mumbled. “Hope so…”

You gripped your bag strap and ran as fast as you could through the halls as you looked at the doors with the room numbers on. Your heart was racing and you were filled with panic at possibly being late for your first lecture. To be late on your first day was a nightmare for you. You could feel the lump in your throat forming ready for a cry.

You’d gotten up on time, but you had gotten distracted by some drama in your hall between some girls. You settled everyone down but realised you needed to get to the lecture fast. You hurried to lecture and realised you didn’t have your phone on you, so you stopped and thought if you should go back, but then you chose to keep going. Your lecture was more important than having your phone for the day.

You carefully pushed the door open and peeked inside the small lecture room that had only ten rows of seats. You blushed a bit when you saw people chatting and the lecture hadn’t even started yet. You hurried inside and walked up the stairs and down an empty row. You pulled your seat down and plopped yourself down as you sighed in relief.

“Tch, you’re late.”

You turned your head to see Levi was sat in the row behind you. “Oh, hello Levi.”

He leaned his chin on his hand and covered his mouth a little. “Surprised you’re here. You in the right place?”

You gulped hard. “Ethics?” You stared at Levi as his gaze bore into you. “Am I in the wrong place?”

Levi smirked behind his hand at how adorable you were. “You’re in the right place. This is ethics.”

You let out a long sigh. “Thank goodness. Jeez, you are a tease.”

“I like to joke around.”

You giggled. “You got me.”

He hummed as he studied you in your cute jumper. “What are you studying?”

“Uh, criminology.”

Levi blushed a little. “Same. Tch, means I’m stuck with you.”

You laughed. “I guess so.”

He frowned in thought. “Why were you close to being late?”

“There was some drama in my hall and I helped sort it out. However, it meant I was delayed and I forgot my phone.”

Levi hummed and felt a bit sorry for you. You were too nice for your own good, so he was thinking he needed to protect you as much as possible. He flicked his gaze around the room to see Reuben casually walking in and had his eyes on you. Levi needed to act. “Mind if I sit next to you?”

You shook your head. “No, I don’t mind.” You squeaked when Levi jumped over the seats and sat next to you. “Oh wow.”

He grabbed his bag and put it next to him. “Tch, thanks.”

You got what you needed out and smiled at Levi. “So, what are your plans?”

“For today or life?”

You blushed as you felt embarrassed. Levi was too hot for his own good, he was funny and rather kind. "I uh...I meant...well...”

He pulled his leather jacket off and sighed. “Well, for today I just have this lecture and then later I have training.”

You perked up at his words. “Training?”

He rubbed the back of his neck as he blushed. “I play rugby.”

You gasped in delight and shuffled closer to Levi. “You play rugby? That’s so cool! I enjoy watching it and played a bit in secondary school.” Your cheeks burned. “Oh, sorry I’m getting a bit…sorry…I’ll be quiet.”

Levi frowned at your response. “Why?”

You cleared your throat. “I was told once that I talk too much.”

He shook his head. “Tch, don’t listen to that piece of shit. You’re perfect.” He inhaled quickly and blushed hard. “I uh…what I mean is…”

You reached over and placed your hand on his. “Thank you.”

He gulped hard and squeezed your hand back. “You’re welcome.” He looked up to see Reuben moving over and taking a seat in front of you. “Tch, what do you want?”

Reuben smirked at Levi. “Simply taking a seat in front of my new friends.”

“You’re not my friend.”

Reuben narrowed his eyes at Levi before turning his head to you. “What about us? We’re friends, right?”

You clenched up a little. “I ah.”

Your professor entered the room and introduced himself. He asked all of you to refer to him by his first name from now on. He smiled and looked at everyone. “Now, I know the first weeks of university are a bit awkward. So, I want you to make friends. I want you to have a study and work buddy. The person next to you will be your partner for the rest of the semester.”

You looked over at Levi and felt bad. “Sorry, you’re stuck with me.”

Levi covered his mouth with his hand and hid his smile. “Don’t be sorry. I’m happy to work with you.”

“Really? I’m glad.”

Reuben raised his hand. “I think our class isn’t even. So, could I join a pair?”

The professor sighed. “I suppose. Pick anyone.”

He looked at you. “These two. I’ll work with them.”

“All right! Now we have our groups, let’s get to the lecture.”

You made notes as your professor chatted and informed you what the plans were for the semester. You sat there for a while and enjoyed yourself, you were looking forward to your three years at uni. You glanced over at Levi now and then and saw he was transfixed by the lecture as well. You’d both blush when you caught each other’s gazes.

Near the end of the lecture, you huffed a bit causing Levi to look over. “I’m hungry.”

Levi leaned over and whispered back. “Hungry?”

You nodded. “I was planning on bringing like a little bag of snacks with me, but I got so sidetracked with the girls that I just…” You hugged yourself. “I need food.”

“Did you have breakfast?”

You pouted a little. “No…you gonna tell me off?”

He shook his head. “No, why would I? I didn’t have breakfast either.” He blushed hard. “Do uh…”

Reuben turned to you as the lecture ended. “You, me and a lunch date.”

You strained a smile. “I ah…well…”

He looked your up and down and smirked. “You will be having the salad and water, of course, nothing else. What do you think?”

“I’m not hungry.”

“You’re not?” He tilted his head and eyed you again. “Really?”

You hugged yourself a little. “Y-Yeah.”

He hummed and pulled his phone out. “How about I get your number then?”

You packed your things. “I don’t have my phone on me.”

“Look, if you aren’t interested and don’t want to, just say. Don’t lie and beat around the fucking bush. God, you women can be frustrating.”

Levi growled. “She forgot her fucking phone. She was late to this lecture because she forgot it. I bet you were late because you were busy kicking out that girl you took back to your room last night!”

Reuben went white. “I…you…you’re a dick.”

You stood up with tears in your eyes. “I’m…bye.” You ran off away from both men. Levi was wonderful, but Reuben was so judgemental. You leaned against a wall and wiped your tears. “Fuck.” You heard someone getting closer to you. You sniffed back your tears and smiled at Levi. “Hey, Levi.”

Levi leaned his side against the wall and shielded you from others. “You hungry? I want to eat something massive. We can go for ramen, dim sum, tacos, sushi, burgers or pizza.” He frowned. “No fucking salads, okay? I don’t care much for them.”

You sniffed and laughed a little. “That sounds nice.”

“I’m going to be eating a lot, so I need an eating buddy.”

You cleared your throat. “I can do that.”

He pushed from the wall. “I’m letting you choose this time, but next it’s my choice.”

You walked with Levi through the halls and out of the building as you thought. “How about sushi?”

“Sounds great.” He put his hands in his pockets and walked with you across campus to the sushi place. “This will be my treat.”

You sat down next to the little conveyor with sushi on. “Treat? Oh, but I can pay.”

Levi grabbed some sushi off the belt and ordered some tea for two. “You’ve just had a shitty conversation that made you cry, so I want to cheer you up.” He blushed a little. “You don’t mind, do you?”

You shook your head. “No, I don’t mind. I’ll accept this nice offer.”

“Good.” He waited for the tea to be put down before pouring you a cup. “Go ahead, grab the sushi you want.”

You hummed as you looked at went past and grabbed a few things. “Thanks.”

Levi ate in silence for a while before speaking to you. “Why did you lie to him?” He gulped when you locked your pretty eyes with his. “About being hungry. Most girls have been falling all over him.”

You shrugged. “I just got this vibe from him. When I first saw him I knew he was the type to sleep around, brag about it and spread rumours. I just want my time at uni to go well. I don’t want drama and he’s like drama central.”

He wiped his mouth and hummed. “I couldn’t agree more. A nice relaxing time at uni would be good.” His cheek burned as he went for it. “So, how is your boyfriend coping? You know with you being here?”

You laughed as you poured two new cups of tea. “I have no boyfriend, but it’s cute of you to think. I’m single and no, I’m not recently broken up either. It’s been like a year since my last relationship.” You downed some of your tea. “What about you?” You saw Levi’s cheeks burn bright red. “Levi? Have you never been in a relationship?”

He groaned and looked away from you. “Is that bad?”

You shook your head. “No! No, there’s nothing wrong with it.”

He released a long sigh. “I just…I have a single mother and we’ve never had much money, so I often worked part-time while studying at school. I was so focused on helping out that I never got the chance to date.”

“Well, you’re a handsome guy who is smart, kind, funny and caring. I know for sure you’ll find a lovely…” You stared at Levi for a while.

Levi flinched a bit. “Girls, I like girls.”

“Just checking.” You cleared your throat. “Anyway, you’re the total package. Any woman will be lucky to date you.”

He hummed and looked at his sushi. “Thanks. M-Maybe I’ll g-give dating a chance here.”

You blushed a little. “It’s getting a bit late and you have training. I’m taking too much of your time.”

“You’re not taking up my time, but yeah I do have training.” He stood up and paid for lunch.

You hurried next to Levi and walked with him. “Hey, so could you escort me back to my room?”

Levi blushed at the thought. “Sure.” He put his hands in his pockets and walked with you. “Are you warm enough?”

You nodded. “Yeah.”

He hummed a little. “Good.”

You smiled at Levi. “Why don’t you tell me a bit about yourself.”

Levi perked up and started talking about his mother, his two friends back at home, his friends that came to university with him, his past rugby teams with schools and the things he was into. You both discovered you had a lot in common and you made each other laugh. Your chat went so nicely that when you got to your room Levi walked in and you offered him a seat at your desk.

Levi looked over at your tv and gaming set-up. “A nerd, huh?”

You blushed. “A bit.”

He hummed and smiled a little. “I could never afford my own, but I would play on one at my friend’s place.”

You grabbed your phone that had been charging this whole time. “Well, if you ever want to play games again, you can come over and play something.” You blushed. “Th-That’s if you want to.”

Levi gave you a tiny smile. “That’d be cool.” He looked at the phone in your hand. “Can I have that?”

“Huh?”

He reached towards you. “Your phone.”

You looked at your phone. “What about it?”

He blushed. “I ah…I got this wrong. Let me word this better.” He cleared his throat. “C-Could I-I have your n-number?”

You smiled. “Yes. Oh, wait!” You unlocked your phone and changed your lock screen and background picture to not be a character you simped for. “Here.”

Levi took your phone and added his number. “Thanks.” He gave you his phone. “Only add your number if you want to.”

You tapped your number in and saved it to his phone. “There, you have my number.”

He took his phone and blushed hard. He waited a bit as he processed his feelings. He was nervous but relaxed. He was excited but calm. You made him feel so many things and he wasn’t sure what to do with himself. He looked up at you and blushed hard at how cute you were. He ruffled his messy hair as he tried to think of something to say to you. He frowned when his phone pinged to see you’d texted him. He opened the text and smiled at the little emoji you sent him.

Levi hummed a laugh. “Thanks.”

You blushed. “So, do you want me to walk you to your training?”

Levi stood up. “Ah, no I can walk there.”

You stood up and gazed into his wonderful steel-blue eyes. “I’ll walk you out then.”

“S-Sure.” He walked at your side as girls in your hall watched. Levi thought it was because of the stern look he had that people were staring at, but really it was because he was a muscular bad boy. He stopped by the outer door and turned to you. “I’ll see you in lectures tomorrow.” He gulped hard. “T-Text me?”

You nodded. “I will. When does training end?”

“In about two hours.”

“I’ll text you then.”

Levi waved to you and walked towards the locker rooms. He frowned when his phone pinged again. He looked down and smiled at your text saying good luck at training. Levi felt his heart flutter and worked extra hard during his practice because you gave him a spark. After he was done you texted him again asking if everything went well. He texted you right back with a gentle smile on his face.

Athena smirked as you sat on her bed smiling at your phone. She was happy that you’d been at university for a month and you were smiling happily at something. “You texting Levi?”

You dropped your phone and blushed hard. “N-No.”

She hummed a laugh. “I don’t know why you two haven’t been on a date yet. He takes you out to lunch after lectures.”

You released a long sigh. “He’s been busy with practice and training. So, all his free time is gone.”

“Oh and he spends all the time he does have with you! So romantic.”

You groaned a little. “It’s not like that…he’s just…he’s nice and we both do criminology. It’s just that.” You nibbled your lip as your bad thoughts seeped in. “Besides, he wouldn’t be interested in a girl like me.”

Athena turned her chair around and glared at you. “You really have no clue how cute you are, do you?”

You gulped hard. “I just…I don’t know…”

She stood up and smiled. “I think you need a drink. Why don’t you ask Levi if he’s free and we’ll all go for a drink?”

“But.”

She leaned down and looked you in the eyes. “I’ll be there. We’ll make it a group thing and it’ll mean you’re not alone and you can relax a little.”

You nodded and picked up your phone. “I’ll text him.”

“Nooo, you’ll call him.”

You gripped your phone tightly before selecting Levi’s name. “Okay, I’ll call.” You dialled Levi as your heart raced in your chest. “H-Hi Levi?” You winced at your voice catching. “Sorry, so umm…are you free?”

Levi walked around the locker room in just a towel as his friends laughed and shouted. He ruffled his hair and felt his heart race at your cute shy voice. “I’m free. I just finished practice. Are you okay?”

“I’m great.” You nibbled your nail. “I uh…how was practice?”

Athena smacked your arm a few times and angrily whispered. “Ask him damn it!”

Levi walked to a quiet spot. “It went well, thanks.”

You smacked Athena back. “Do you have any plans tonight?”

Levi’s cheeks burned red. “N-No. I-I don’t.”

You locked eyes with Athena as she mouthed to you what to ask. “Well, how about we go out for drinks? You know, all of us?”

Levi looked at his friends and winced a little at how annoying some of them might be, but he also really wanted to spend time with you outside of uni. “Sure. We’ll meet you at the university-run bar in about an hour.”

You gave Athena a thumbs up making her dance around her room and shake her bum in your face. “Great. We’ll see you in an hour.” You ended the call and flopped against the bed. “This is a disaster! I don’t know what to wear!”

Athena rubbed your back. “It’ll be okay cupcake.” She slapped your bum hard making you scream. “Come on sexy! Let me help you out.”

You sat up and huffed. “Fine, fine.”

She yanked you against her buff frame and grinned. “Let this stylish nerd dress you!”

You let your computer science nerdy friend drag you out of her room and into yours. You watched her rummage through your wardrobe until she grabbed the things she wanted. “I’m not sure about that dress.”

“What’s wrong with it?”

“It’s a bit revealing with the boobs.”

She walked up to you. “You have incredible boobs. So, flaunt them.”

You released a long sigh. “Okay. I’ll trust you.” You changed into the dress and you blushed a little. You picked thigh-high socks instead of tights and a nice little cardigan. “This okay?”

Athena purred at you. “Looking like a little cupcake I wanna eat.”

You blushed. “Athena…”

She hummed a laugh. “Trust me. If I wanna devour you then Levi totally will.”

You grabbed your bag and sighed. “Are you changing?”

“Nah, I’m good. You’re the one who should impress.”

You blushed and walked with your friend. “You think he’ll like this?”

She put her arm around you. “I think he will love it so much he’ll kiss you.”

“A-Ah no! I d-don’t think so.” You walked outside with her and towards the bar. “He’s probably not into me. I’m just a friend to him. We sit next to each other in every lecture. We get lunch every day.” You saw Athena grinning. “Friends do all that!”

“Uh-huh. Oh, and friends totally drop everything to text you back too even when they’re busy.”

You sighed as she opened the door. “I really think you’re reading too much into his actions.”

“So why is the grumpy guy smiling and waving?”

You blushed as Levi stood in a booth with a gentle smile as he waved to you. You waved back as your heart throbbed. “He’s cute.”

Athena pushed you along. “You two are cute together. Just go for it, okay?”

You nodded and moved over to Levi and his three friends. “Hey.” You smiled at another tall blonde. “You must be Erwin! Lovely to meet you finally.”

Erwin shook your hand. “You too. I’ve heard so much about you.”

Levi blushed hard. “Tch, oi eyebrows, stop.”

You giggled. “Well, it’s nice to meet you.”

“Can I get you a drink?”

You nibbled your lip. “I’ll get it.”

He put his arm around you. “Let me treat you.” He blushed and locked eyes with a grinning Athena. “Can I get you something?”

Athena held her hands up. “I’ll get mine. I just want to chat with your friends for a bit.”

Levi gulped hard as he took you all in. He thought the dress looked incredible on you. “You uh…you look cute.”

You smiled a little as your heart fluttered in your chest. “Thank you.”

Levi moved you to the bar. “What would you like?”

You blushed a little and looked at the menu. “I uh…a cocktail? I’ll have the pina colada.”

Levi nodded. “Can I get a pina colada and a black Russian?”

You smiled as the bartender made the drinks. “I like white Russians.”

Levi looked down at you. “They’re pretty good. So, you like cocktails then?”

“I do.” You frowned a little. “Didn’t think you were a cocktail drinker.”

“I am. That bad?”

You shook your head. “No, it just means I have someone to take with me to a cocktail bar.”

He smiled a little. “I’d be happy to go with you.”

“Awesome.” You gazed at Levi as he blushed. “You have a mark on your cheek.” You reached over and lightly touched his cheek. “Are you okay?”

He hummed in response. “I’m okay. I got knocked by someone’s elbow.”

You moved closer and gasped. “It must hurt. Have you put anything on it?”

Levi blushed at you worrying about him and tending to him. “I ah…yeah. I put some ointment on it.” He leaned his cheek against your hand. “Thank you for worrying about me.”

You smiled a little as your heart raced. “How can I not worry? You’re important to me.”

Levi’s eyes widened. “I am?”

The bartender put the drinks down. “You two are a cute couple! What a lovely thing to see!”

You grabbed your drink. “Th-thank you.”

Levi blushed at you not denying anything. “Y-Yeah, thanks.” He cleared his throat and paid before walking with you back to the booth. “After you.”

You slipped in first and pressed up against the wall. You blushed as Levi sat next to you. You fiddled with your glass as everyone chatted. You joined in a bit but all you could focus on was Levi’s warm body next to you and the wonderful lemon scent that was drifting from him. You looked over at him to see he kept looking down at you.

You moved your gaze to his lap to see his left hand resting on his thigh next to you was clenched and twitching, almost like he wanted to do something but stopped himself. You took in a deep breath and bit the bullet. You reached over with your right hand and placed your hand on Levi’s. You blushed when he flinched at your touch, so you pulled your hand away.

Levi had been desperate to hold your hand this whole time. Your smell was intoxicating and sweet. He was so flustered by you and wanted so badly to hold your hand. He flinched when he felt your feathery touch on his hand. He saw you looked embarrassed and sad at his reaction. He panicked at possibly losing his chance. He reached for you and grabbed your hand before you pulled away for good.

Levi blushed as he held your wrist tightly. He felt like a deer in headlights. He ran his hand down your palm and then entwined his fingers with yours. He gave you a side glance to see you were smiling with an adorable blush on your cheeks. He gave your hand a little squeeze before running his thumb over your skin. He felt soothed by your touch even his heart was racing just a little bit.

Erwin and Athena got the drinks for everyone due to being sat at the end of the booth. You passed your card down when needed. Levi paid mostly for your drinks, but you managed to twist his arm and let you pay. Eventually, you needed the toilet and Levi said he did too. He let go of your hand and walked with you to the toilets. When you left Levi was waiting for you and looked a little nervous.

You smiled as you approached him. “You okay Levi?”

He nodded and rubbed the back of his neck. “So uh…about the umm hand holding…”

You blushed as you played with your dress. “R-Right.” You looked up as Levi leaned closer to kiss you, but you both ended up banging your heads. “Ow.”

Levi rubbed his head. “Tch, shit s-sorry.”

You giggled. “It’s okay.”

“I was trying to kiss you and fucked up.”

You blushed. “You wanted to kiss me?”

He stopped rubbing his head and blushed. “Y-Yeah.” His eyes darted around as the nerves seeped in. “I uh…I like you. I like you more than a friend. I-I’ve never liked someone as much as this before, so this is all new to me. A-All I know is I want to be your boyfriend a-and spoil you, t-take care of you, h-have a lot of firsts with you a-and um…just be with you.” He held his hands up. “O-Only if y-you want to.”

You walked up to Levi and held his hands. You squeezed them tightly and smiled softly. “I like you more than a friend too. I would like to be your girlfriend if you’ll have me.”

“I would really like that.”

You giggled. “Well then, I guess we’re a couple.”

He hummed a laugh as he lightly smiled. “I want to do this better, so…may I kiss you?”

You nodded shyly and leaned up to him. Your lips softly grazed his causing a tingle to begin in your lips. You shivered at his warm breath against your sensitive skin. You hummed as he kissed you gently, as if he was a bit scared you might break or run. When Levi realised you wanted this, he pressed his lips against yours with more purpose.

He tilted his head to the side and released your hands. He slowly slid his hands along your back and tugged you against his muscular body. You ran your hands up his chest and clung to him a little bit. He felt his heart race in his chest at kissing you. He’d never really kissed anyone before except for when a random girl kissed him when he was a kid, but he’d never had a real kiss. You were truly his first in everything.

You felt so adored in this kiss. It seemed so innocent but with a hint of desire. You felt truly cared for by this sweet man. He might have looked like he was a beast of a man, but really he was a sweet stuttering sweetheart who’d barely had romance in his life. You felt so much love from this man. You felt special and you knew you were going to do everything in your power to treasure this adorable bad boy.

You pulled from Levi’s lips and blushed a little. “Wow.”

Levi sighed. “You can say that again. That was my first real kiss.” He gripped your waist. “W-was it okay?”

You nodded. “It was more than okay! It was perfect.” You nibbled your lip. “Do…do you still want me? I mean, a kiss can change things.”

“I really want you.” He tapped his forehead against yours. “I-I want to take you on a d-date. I-I was thinking this S-Saturday? I uh have n-no practice.”

You smiled. “I’d love that. Oh, um…could I come to practice sometimes? I would like to watch.”

Levi groaned as his heart was close to bursting in his chest at how adorable you were. “Y-Yes. You can come.”

“Thank you.” You hummed a laugh. “I can’t wait to watch. I will come to your matches as well.”

“You’ll be my lucky charm.”

You laughed a little. “I don’t know about that.”

He held your hand and walked with you back to that table. His friends and Athena noticed the hand-holding but never said a thing about it and let you be. You all joked and laughed together and had a few more drinks before you decided to make the five-minute walk back to the halls. Levi waved to his friends and took you to your room.

Athena leaned against her door opposite yours. “Night you two! Don’t do anything I wouldn’t doooo.”

You blushed a little as she fell into her room. “I’m sorry about that.”

Levi ruffled his hair. “My friends will rip into me when I get back.”

“Ah, I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be” he leaned against the door and smiled at you “they’re happy for me most likely, they’re just a joking bunch.” He blushed when you gave him a little peck on the lips. “Ah…uh…thank you.”

You blushed. “Kiss of courage.”

“I feel brave already.”

You hummed a little laugh. “Thank you for walking me back. You didn’t need to.”

He reached towards you and shifted your hair. “I wanted to.”

“I should walk you to the door.”

“Oh, but I walked you to your room door.”

You held his hand. “Maybe I want to spend more time with you.”

He led you to the door out of the hall and smiled. “I’m glad.” He stopped by the door. “Tch, this damn hallway should be longer.” He turned to you and kissed you. “I’ll text you.”

You nodded. “I’d like that. We uh, have lectures tomorrow, so I’ll see you tomorrow.”

He squeezed your hand before releasing it. “See you tomorrow.”

You waved to him. “Bye.” You hummed a laugh when he didn’t leave. “Levi.”

He leaned closer. “Sorry, one last kiss.” He kissed you and smiled. “Better. Okay, see you.”

You waved to him and watched him go down the stairs to the outside door. “Bye.”

Eddie had finally and fully decided to ask Steve out after the campaign today. He was ready and excited and honestly sick of Gareth making fun of him for chickening out. So he’d made a plan, and was ready to do it.

But of course Steve Fucking Harrington had to be a step ahead of him.

And he’s not entirely sure that’s what’s happening, when Steve pulls out his lavender D20 and hands it to Eddie after their Hellfire session. Telling him to roll it when Steve gives him the say so, but the fucking twinkle in Robins eyes sort of hints that this is more then likely Steve’s adorably nerdy way of asking Eddie out. He’s got a sheet of paper with him too, that Eddie can see a numbered list on, but Steve keeps turning it too quickly when Eddie tries to read anything on it. It’s cute. Also infuriating.

“Steve what is even going on?” Eddie grumbles after the 3rd roll. He’s on the edge of his seat, waiting for Steve to actually ask the question he seems to be leading up to, but the stupid shit eating grin he keeps shooting Eddie is making his skin crawl. Eddie wants to dig his fingers into his hair and pull him down until he's on his knees whining at the pressure

Cause Steve’s purposefully being a little shit about this, dragging it out and letting Eddie sit in the anticipation of it.

He was being a brat . And Eddie was itching to fuck him into a bumbling mess.

When Steve finally tells Eddie it’s his last roll, Eddie locks eyes with him never looking away as he rolls, and he watches as Steve’s pupils dilate. His tongue coming out to play with his lip ring. His nose scrunching around the piercing in it.

Wait, when did he get a nose ring?

Eddie’s a little distracted with the soft metal when Steve finally claps his hands together bringing him out of the fantasy he’d fallen into of Steve letting Eddie pierce a part of him.

“Alright Ed’s, tomorrow, 6pm I’m picking you up for a homemade picnic and a drive in movie. Dress cute but comfy.” Steve winks, and Eddie bristles slightly, his eyes narrowing.

He wonders how much teasing it would take to pull that sleezy little smile off Steve’s face.

“You asking me out, Princess?” Eddie purrs, leaning into Steve’s space slightly, preening at the light blush that starts bubbling to the surface of his cheeks.

“I rolled a 20 in charisma beforehand, so you can’t say no.” Steve breaths, eyes flicking to where Eddie knows his tongue sticking out slightly from his lips.

“Mmm and what If I said no?”

“Don’t?” There’s a vulnerability in the word when he says it that has Eddie pausing slightly. He doesn’t want Steve to think he’s not interested, he’d just wanted to play a bit, but maybe now wasn’t the time.

“I could never, baby boy.” He softens his smile as much as he can, brushing a stray strand of hair off Steve’s face. “I’ll be ready at 6 sharp.” Steve fucking glows at the response, large lopsided smile taking over his face, and he looks back at Robin, causing a soft laugh to tumble from Eddies lips. Steve quickly leans forward and places a chaste kiss to Eddies jaw and scrambles over to grab Robin muttering a ‘ Don’t say anything till we get to the car’

Eddie’s on cloud nine honestly, even though he’d a little bummed Steve beat him to the metaphorical finish line and asked him out first, he’d had a plan okay? He was gonna ask the fucking socks off Steve, but he’d gotten distracted by the campaign, and then noticing all the little personalization's Steve had on his Hellfire shirt, that Eddie was sure was the work of El, and Steve had gotten there first.

And the rolling for ideas? What a fucking concept. Eddie was almost instantly hard at the fact that not only had Steve incorporated his favorite thing into the way he’d asked Eddie out, but he also still gave Eddie all the power in an off handed way? Fuck, if that didn’t get him going so fast.

“Okay, man, I feel like that was the weirdest foreplay I’ve ever seen, and I’m asking you nicely, to not do that with your boyfriend in front of me ever again.” Jeff grumbles, climbing into the back of Eddie’s van with Mack. Eddie can see Gareth snickering next to him in the passenger seat as he starts the car, and he smacks his arm.

“Dude, that was like, nothing. I’m pretty sure that was Steve asking Eddie out on their first date.” Mack muses.

“Yea, Jeff. They haven’t even kissed yet.” Gareth adds on rubbing his arm where Eddie had hit him, a stupid smile still in place on his lips.

“They haven’t even kissed yet?” Eddie can hear Robin's loud cackle through his open window, no doubt having heard Jeff's disbelieving yell as they’d driven past her and Steve.

“Gareth I swear to god if you don’t start taking this seriously, I’m never going to talk to you about things in my life ever again.” Eddie growls into the phone, eyes scanning over the mess he’s made in his room. Every piece of clothing Eddie has ever owned is thrown on his bed, his eyes following the movement as a pile of them slowly tumbles to the floor.

“Oh no, a crying shame.” Gareth drawls sarcastically, Eddie can picture his eyes rolling on the other end of the line.

“Gare I swear to god, I’ll kill you off next session if you don’t stop being a royal butthead about this.” Eddie groans, throwing himself onto his bed, while keeping the hand that has the phone in it outstretched. Slowly bringing it back to his ear, Wayne will kill him if he rips it off the wall again.

“Eddie, he’s not gonna care what you wear, just that you’re going to be there.”

Of course Eddie knows that, but he just, wants, needs , this to be perfect. He’s finally landed a date with, the Steve Harrington, and sophomore year Eddie would kick his ass if he ruined it by dressing like some weirdo. Eddie snorts at the thought, he’s always dressed like a weirdo in Hawkins standards, and Steve likes that about him so he’s really gotta stop stressing about this so much. It’s just he’s never dated before. Fast hookups are a standard for him when it comes to this sort of thing, because even at the clubs in Indy, Eddie never seemed to find someone comfortable enough with themselves to want to date him. Which is fine, and he gets that, he wasn’t really looking to date before either. But it's Steve , the honest to god best thing to have come into Eddie's life lately, and he wants to do this right. He wants this to last and last, and be forever. Which honestly, should scare him, they haven't even been on a date yet, but Steve’s had his heart for months now, and Eddie doesn't ever want it back from him. He just wants Steve, however he gets to have him.

“Eddie, you got stuck in your head again and forgot to share with the class.” Gareth's staticky voice through the phone brings him back to the present, and his eyes lock on the soft black button up Wayne had gotten him last year.

“Black button up?”

“Black button up, and your jeans, He said comfy clothes Eddie. That's the perfect outfit.” Eddie groans at Gareth's words, throwing himself onto his feet and padding over to the shirt.

“Alright, alright. Gotta go Gare Bear, time to woo a boy.” Gareth's cackles at Eddie before hanging up the phone. Eddie stumbles into the kitchen slamming the phone back down onto the receiver leaning his head against the wall.

“Did a tornado go off in your room?” Wayne laughs, making his way out of the bathroom, the steam from his shower tickling the back of Eddie’s neck.

“Trying to find something to wear on my date tonight.” Wayne lifts a single eyebrow up at Eddie.

“Steve and you finally making things official?” Wayne’s got a soft smile on his lips as he passes him, patting his shoulder gently before making his way into the kitchen to pour some coffee into the ‘worlds weirdest dad’ mug Eddie made him in art class freshman year. Eddie groans rolling over till his back is pressed against the wall, his eyes catching the time.

“Shit! shit, shit, shit, He’s gonna be here in like 15 minutes and my shirt’s wrinkly and I haven’t showered, shit, shit, shit.” Eddie stumbles into his bedroom whipping around in circles.

“Hang it up in the bathroom while you shower, I fixed the water heater before work today, and the steam will help.” Wayne calls out, Eddie answering with a loud, resounding thank you as he slams the bathroom door shut.

Eddie’s scrambling to answer the door fifteen minutes later, when he sees Steve’s BMW pull into the driveway, He’s throwing it open just as Steve’s about to knock, and they both freeze when they spot each other.

Oh fuck, how in the hell is he supposed to keep his hands to himself when Steve looks like that . Jesus.

Steve’s standing there, in a loose fitting white button up, with the top few buttons undone, but he’s got a harness on that’s giving Eddie all kinds of ideas. A few straps around his stomach and over his shoulders, As well as just chains on chains hanging down in the front of his, god it’s like right there in front of his crotch, and Eddie wants to grab that chain and yank Steve to him. Steve has a huge smile on his face when Eddie finishes ogling him and makes eye contact again.

“Hi.” It’s breathy when Steve says it, and Eddie has to clear his throat.

“Hi yourself.” Eddie rasps, clearing his throat again, because god his mouth has just gone so fucking dry and he’s also pretty sure he’s drooling and he’s not sure how that works, but that seems to be what’s happening.

“Hi Steve.” Wayne calls from the living room. Eddie can hear a smug undertone to the words as he grabs Steve and shoves him out the door.

“Bye Wayne!” Steve yells at the same time as Eddie shuts the door, laughing at the way Eddie’s manhandling him away from his uncle.

“I’m ready to go, let's go.” Eddie grumbles, hand latching onto the harness Steve’s wearing and pulling him towards the car. Steve’s laugh cuts off suddenly, and Eddie stops walking, turning to look at him. And oh is he a fucking sight to see, his eyes are locked onto where Eddie’s hand is wrapped around the harness, face bright red, and eyes a little glassy. Eddie smirks, pulling Steve closer with the harness again, eliciting a small barely there gasp from him as he stumbles forward and looks up at Eddie through his lashes.

“What’s going on in that head of yours, Princess?” Eddie makes sure to make his voice low, and smooth, watching as Steve’s pupils dilate. Jesus Christ, how is Eddie supposed to get through a whole date if Steve’s gonna look at him like that, eyes blown and lips slightly parted. Eddie really wants to get some tears streaming down that face, and those lips swollen and begging for more. Fuck , Eddie focus you animal.

Steve’s clearing his throat suddenly, hand coming up to wrap around where his is still attached to the harness. He leans in slightly to Eddie's space and a soft smirk comes to his lips.

“If you don’t stop tugging on this, It’ll break and I think you’d have an even harder time focusing on the movie we are going to watch, if I have to go about watching it shirtless. The buttons on this shirt are all broken, so it’s the only thing holding it together.” He puts emphasis on the word harder, and Eddie’s trying really fucking hard to not just drag Steve back to his room, but Wayne’s home, and Steve went through all the trouble for this date, and Eddie’s not about to ruin it. Eddie swallows thickly, releasing his hold on the harness and bringing his hand up, using his knuckles to brush gently over Steve’s cheek.

“Alright cowboy, let's get going then.” He tries really hard to bring a soft rumble to his words, and smiles triumphantly when a light dusting of pink coats Steve’s cheeks. Steve shakes his head slightly as he steps back out of Eddie’s space. Eddie hurries forward then, pulling open Steve’s door and bowing slightly.

“Your chariot awaits, your majesty.”

“That only works if you’re the one driving Eds.” Steve laughs climbing into the driver's seat and leaning across to unlock the door for Eddie to get in.

“Well if my Princess would allow me, I’d drive her everywhere. But she’s a strong independent babygirl, and I don’t wanna take that away from her.” Eddie beams, climbing into the passenger seat. He watches closely as his words sink in, noting how Steve freezes slightly, before a blush starts creeping up from his chest to his cheeks. Eddie feels a warmth bloom low in his gut, wanting to chase that blush with his tongue, as he watches Steve try to reboot.

“You like that, babygirl?” Eddie coos, leaning into Steve’s ear, his lips ghosting over it. Steve shivers, nodding slightly before clearing his throat and putting the car in reverse.

“Buckle up you heathen.” He breaths, shooting a shy smile to Eddie as he leans back into his seat and buckles his seat belt.

“I’ll show you heathen later, Big Boy” Eddie beams, as Steve backs out of their little driveway and starts making his way towards the drive in, reaching across the center counsel and clasping Eddie's hand in his.

Eddie’s heart starts beating wildly in his chest, just the small comfort and warmth of Steve’s hand wrapped in his own, washes away any worries he had about fucking this date up. It’s Steve. His Steve, and as long as they are together, he’s pretty sure it could never be anything less than perfect.

I was looking through older chapters of tfs and your character beats for Maedhros (and also fingon) are so consistent from early on up to chapter 30!!

"How very like Maedhros, to love people, and doom them for it" chapter 11

Right. Maedhros was worried about that secret getting out.

"“My father doesn’t want to keep you chained,” she tells him. “Everyone in Beleriand knows what you’ve suffered! He’s only afraid you’ll do something terrible to get this.” She raises the Silmaril again. “And you would, wouldn’t you? Even though you’re afraid to touch it.” “I don’t know,” Maedhros whispers, features crumpling in misery." chapter 3!! he still doesn't know what he would do!!!

I'm going insane your character beats are so good.

Thank you!! A lot of these specific moments had actually slipped my mind lol (maybe I should reread my own fic…). But I have tried to keep characterisation details and character arcs consistent throughout, so this is a rather pleasant surprise.

I DO like the idea that Maedhros cannot see the people he loves with any degree of objectivity, that he completely shies away from the knowledge that Fingon and Maglor are both Kinslayers, and that he does on some level buy into Fingon’s legend, the image of him as the heroic prince and Eagle-rider and dragon-fighter, and forgets the darker parts of him. Which is part of why he’s in such free-fall in part 30: between the kiss (which genuinely hurt him, even if he DOES overreact a bit too) and Turgon’s hard truths, he is being forced to confront the idea that Fingon is capable of doing bad things, which terrifies him.

As for Russingon and secrecy: it’s my general headcanon that they WERE very secretive about their relationship. There was never a time when it was politically convenient, after all. So in the third arc, when I wanted to shake that dynamic up a bit, and make it something more complicated than a symbol of hope and light and steadiness to Maedhros, the secrecy thing felt like the easiest thing to go for.

The whole Maedhros-is-scared-of-touching-the-Silmaril thing was a big motif in the very first few parts of the fic, but then he finally holds it when Celegorm dies and is able to touch it which... almost felt like an anticlimax, for a while. But then I managed to work in the idea that he thinks it should burn him, just like he thinks Maglor shouldn't forgive him (these are basically the same concept to him because he is so so so normal about his brother), which drove a lot of his thinking in the third arc and was a pretty fun thread to play with! There is... rather a lot that Maedhros needs to work out about the Oath and also his understanding of himself. Unfortunately I do not think he'll be getting much free therapy atm.

1. Named after anyone? Technically? My parents mashed together the names of two religious figures to get my name.

2. Last time you cried? ...yesterday. I cry very easily, and I was sad that my plans to go to the mall today had fallen through, and also I was anxious about the concept of emotional vulnerability (separate from the mall thing).

3. Do you have kids? Nope. I do have a dog, though. He's a grumpy old man but he's also my baby son child whom I adore.

4. What sports do you play/have played? I played soccer when I was a lot younger, which was the only sport I ever really liked. I also played basketball in fifth grade, but I didn't like it very much. Haven't played any sports since.

5. do you use sarcasm? Mostly just to tell my family members that they are "so funny. hilarious. a comedian." when they make short jokes about me. I also say things along the lines of "this is a fantastic idea that can only end well for everyone involved." about my obviously bad ideas. Other than that, not a lot.

6. First thing you notice about people? Hair. There are people in my classes who I know nothing about other than the fact that I think they have very cool hair, and it makes them stick in my mind.

7. Eye colour? Blue.

8. scary movie or happy ending? Happy ending.

9. any talents? I get a lot of compliments on my writing. I also think I'm good at climbing, but only things that aren't strictly meant to be climbed. Oh, and I have a talent for naming things. (Plants, stuffed animals, figurines, drawings, etc. The exception to this is my ocs. For some reason, I can never give my ocs cool names. All of their names are boring.)

10. where were you born? USA.

11. hobbies? Writing! Almost any form of it! I love writing, and I don't really have a ton of other hobbies that I can remember.

12. any pets? The previously mentioned dog. He's a mix of several small and scruffy dog breeds, probably has some dachshund and yorkie, maybe schnauzer as well. He's a very good boy who has a lot of audacity sometimes. (He climbed onto my lap during dinner, sat there, waited until I was distracted, and calmly ate a slice of pizza.)

13. How tall are you? Not sure, but I have only one friend who is shorter than me that I know of. Also my siblings are on track to outgrow me, a dilemma which is the bane of my entire existence.

14. favourite subject? English/Composition. I love writing, and it's a class I'm good at.

15. dream job? Currently, some kind of library worker/assistant. I love the idea of helping people and being a part of all the resources that libraries offer, but I also don't really want all the pressure and time-consuming stuff that goes into a higher-level librarian job. I guess the actual dream would be working as a library volunteer, I've done that and absolutely loved it but that's not a paying job. I'd also like a job that allows me to write in my free time.

stone cold: the one where merlin was turned into stone. bit heavy i have to admit, no idea what i was on when i wrote it

through storm and hellfire: the one where merlin was kidnapped to force Destiny™'s hand , things went to shit, and arthur went through a Difficult Journey of Discovery (or: the wringer) where he learnt that his dad was not, in fact, a good guy....among other things

flickering embers: the one where arthur lost merlin to the veil between the worlds only for merlin to be spat back out, lose his memory, and become a druid leader

winning the battle: the one where old religion claims everything that makes merlin merlin as a price for the immense magic he used to win arthur's battle

quiet light: the one where merlin stayed mad after agravaine convinced arthur that gaius was a traitor

my takeaway from this is that people enjoy it when i make arthur suffer

5. Do you respond to comments?

i do try but i am genuinely horrible at it. it's so so nice to receive them and i read every single one but i kind of don't know how to respond to them sometimes. one day we will get there

i did intend for the long way round ANd a line that goes all the way to have angsty endings but oops guess my hand slipped.

the number of times i intended a fic to have an angsty ending only for me to faff with it later... unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on where you stand on this) my mind would not let me rest until I added a happier ending

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

the three trials. it ended well for everybody. and not to toot my own horn or anything but i'm quite happy with it. i think i have a tendency to rush endings generally speaking, but i quite enjoyed writing the ending to this one.

i do like thinking about writing it but i just can't bring myself to actually type it out before i give myself the ick. maybe one day

the sword and his shield. i still really like the concept i have for it and i still have the ideas for it rattling around in my head, but i just feel like it flopped. i write for myself and clear my head of plotlines and random bits of dialogue rather than external validation, but it just feels a bit like mumbling into the void

banter and describing emotions that are not my own <3

worldbuilding. coming up with the concept is fine, i can do that, but i find the keeping track on them challenging

i mean if somebody else wants to do it, go for it, fair play, but personally i will not. only because i can't be 100% sure that i wouldn't get things wrong

i feel like i should say storm and hellfire because it is my child, it is the longest thing i've ever written, and i feel like it is the only thing i write that resembles an Actual Story (idk how else to put it). i surprised myself by actually finishing it. think it took about two years and i was a bit bereft after the last chapter was posted.

that being said, the fic i enjoy rereading the most (i.e. without cringing) is probably a line that goes all the way. it ticks all my own boxes and caters to all my interests lmao what can i say

1. What’s your favourite sims death? Definitely the satellite death, because that was so memorable I still remember the first time my sims died of that! 😅 But I also really like the death by cowplant.

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight? No? I make them excercise to go back to thin based on the situation but I don't cheat to make them thin lol.

20. How has your “sim style” changed throughout your years of playing? It definitely improved a lot imo, but it's not like there's a wrong and right way that you need to improve? Back then I never played rotationally, and all my families followed the same path basically: get married, have kids, work hard, die. Now my sims and stories are a bit more diverse and I really enjoy that!

Good question uhhhh 55???? That seems like way more than I thought it would be....

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

523,858 words! Granted over half of that is just my slow burn story so lol

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Primarily I've written for My Hero Academia (40 out of the total 55). But I've also written for Kingdom Hearts, The World Ends With You, and more recently Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom.

I'm...genuinely shocked one of my LoZ fics is up there??? And so high??? 1, 3, 4, and 5 are all from my hero fanfics which is not surprising and most of them are super old. Number 2 I only posted in June and it was my first fic for LoZ so that's...interesting to say the least.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to! The last year or so I've had a hard time working up the energy or finding the words to respond to comments, sometimes. But whenever I do gather up the energy to do it, I tend to answer everything in my inbox in one fell swoop! And I always really appreciate getting them so tbh sometimes I feel bad that it can take so much energy to reply....

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh gosh idk if I have anything that qualifies as an angsty ending lol. Maybe Tarantism (a KH fic) because it's supposed to be feelsy and then the ending is one of those "it's just a dream" things haha.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Happiest...probably A Family's Orbit? The story has married izuocha with their first kid who they're not sure when or if she'll have a Quirk of her own. But the one-shot ends pretty happy.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Hmmmm I've gotten a handful of complaints on Drops of Jupiter, on occasion. Usually just people telling me I'm going too slow (when I put in the author's notes of the very first chapter that it's "the slowest of slow burns" smh). Or this one time someone told me I didn't give Deku enough victories in the fic and it would be way better if I did.

Outside of that though, I can't think of any on my other stuff. I've been blessed with very kind commentors, I think.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I've written a couple for Izuocha. But yknow usually, in all honesty, I've only ever written smut out of spite? The two fics I have (Burning Heat and Homecoming) were written in opposition to fandom tendencies at the time. Mostly everyone was talking about Izuku like someone who was a sex addict/sex god and Ochako was just kind of there. And I said "actually I think Deku's on the ace spectrum and probably mostly just cares about pleasing his partner than anything" and thus they were born. I haven't reread them in ages though that said lol

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Generally, no. However, about a year or so ago I got really into twewy again because I had just finished playing NEO:The World Ends With You. So I came up with a concept that kind of meshes twewy's concept with the my hero world? I only have one chapter posted of Death By Proxy so far, but I have an outline and little details written down whenever I'm in the right headspace for it. For what it's worth, you don't really need to know about twewy to read it, because Izuku finds out how everything works at the same time you do lol

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge. Here's hoping it stays that way lol

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I know of? I've never been asked about it anyway.

Not explicitly? I feel like I help out my friends with their stories and vice versa, but not really.

Although once upon a time me and a friend (you know who you are) wrote a KH fanfic together but I guess that was moreso just for us than anything else lol

Probably Izuocha, just going by the numbers.

Hmmm probably Eri-sitting? I really want to finish it at some point, and I posted the first part with every intention of doing it. But I never figured out the way I wanted to start chapter 2. Maybe someday though. Also!!! I did start writing a fanfic based off of heroes of the dark, but I didn't end up finishing it because it contrasted how the story ended and I thought completing that would be in poor taste with that said lol

16. What are your writing strengths?

Hmmm I've always found dialogue and characterization comes easier to me than I think it does to most others? There's always been discussions I've seen where people are like "oh sometimes the characters just do what they want" and I've never really...had that happen? Or at least not in a way that completely alters a story like I've seen people say. Little actions or pieces of dialogue that take me by surprise, sure, but like never anything that completely alters a plot beat I had planned. But usually at least for me, the plot beats are so centered around who they are or how they act that the odds of them veering off course are incredibly slim, if that makes sense

God I'm rambling uh dialogue and characterization I guess was my point haha.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Probably description is the thing I have the hardest time with. Some people are so good at writing a setting and making everything seem so like immersive in that way. For me, I don't see the point in describing something unless it's like relevant and so my description tends to be very to the point.

Also estimating a story's length. Usually I come up with a concept and then I'll say "oh yeah this'll only be this long" and then I start writing and writing and realize I had a lot more to say than I thought I did initially. This has happened a handful of times now haha

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic.

I definitely don't see anything wrong with it. I usually only do it for small phrases, myself, but partially because I'm not fluent in anything except for English. And I generally try to do some research or I'll check with friends if I have any who speak the language I'm using.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Kingdom Hearts! Back in the days of yore, yours truly actually wrote KH retellings with OCs back on quizilla lmao. I wrote quite a lot back then although with how long it's been most of the things I posted on there don't exist anymore. But that was back during 8th grade when I started.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

Oh hmm I don't know. I feel like favorites is tough because I like a lot of my stories but for different reasons. I'm exceedingly proud of Drops of Jupiter for example. And I think it's been a true adventure to write and does have some of my best work in it as a result.

But I also think some of the prose and concepts I've made for Call From the Wild has a special place in my heart. It's very different from...basically anything else I've ever written because most ever other fic is "modern" in a manner of speaking and this was my first time writing something that's...decidedly not lol. I also think I'm fond of it because it's adhering to canon while allowing me the creativity to come up with how certain things happened since the details before the Calamity in botw are pretty limited...

Basically I guess my favorite kind of fic I've written is anything that really allows me to go nuts creatively.

And finally, to complete my yearly game posts, here's what I plan on playing in the year 2024:

1. Assemble With Care - a short little game I should be able to knock out in a few hours but I picked it up in a bundle and I have wanted to play it so I will try to knock it out this year.

2. I'm more than half way done with Baldur's Gate 3 but I likely will be playing it through January. I hope to finish it at least once before P3R.

3. Bloodborne - help.

4. Borderlands 2 - since I had such a blast playing Borderlands with my boyfriend this year, I'm looking forward to giving this game a second chance and hopefully enjoying it much more.

5. Borderlands 3 - a little less hopeful for this one, since I haven't heard much good about it, but might as well knock out the main franchise.

6. Boyfriend Dungeon - I just got this for Christmas and I'm excited for the concept of romancing my weapons :)

7. I'm also more than halfway through Catherine, so I also intend to finish that in the coming month.

8. Cat Museum - something cute and short I picked up on mega sale and want to make an effort to play this year.

9. The Coffin of Andy and Leyley - I actually have no idea what this game is about or if I'll like it but it was a gift so dammit I'll play it.

10. Dragon's Dogma 2 - Dragon's Dogma is easily in my top 10 games of all time, and I am SO hype for this game. The only downside is it's coming in March, and the first quarter of 2024 is pretty PACKED with games for me.

11. Etrian Odyssey - because I never finished it when I owned it on DS but I'm in my Atlus Games era rn so

12. Far: Lone Sails - I was drawn to this game for the art and it seems like a quick little experience of a game.

13. Final Fantasy 16 DLC - blanketing over the currently available DLC and the up and coming DLC.

14. Hades - a carry over from 2023's list but THIS WILL BE THE YEAR (maybe)

15. Haven - I don't think (?) this game is very long but it looks very heartwarming so I'm here for it this year.

16. Little Nightmares 2 - another fairly short game that I have no reason not to play, especially when I'm obsessed with the first one.

17. Little Nightmares 3 - I don't know what the release date is yet but like Borderlands let's try to close out a franchise!

18. Metaphor: ReFantazio - it doesn't even have a release date and I'm already excited about it.

21. Nier Automata - another carry over from 2023, but I have a good feeling about it this year.

19. NEO: The World Ends With You - I hear only good things about this game but I will be walking into it 98% blind.

20. Nightingale - Idk how much I'll actually play this game but my friend and I have been watching its development for years and we are READY

22. Nier Replicant - I watched a friend play some of this and it looked fun, and since I saw it was free on PS plus... why not.

23. Octopath Traveler - this is to feed my JRPG addiction but break up some of my Atlus obsession

24. Opus: Echo of Starsong - This was a gift like 2 years ago and I really want to play it through this year.

25. Persona 3 Reload - I ALREADY TOOK VACATION FOR IT IM SO READY 38 MORE DAYS

26. Persona 4 Arena - Because I think it's the only readily available Persona game I haven't played yet.

27. Sea of Stars - I'm more than half through this too, I stopped playing it to play Tactica so I'll be finishing this soon as well.

28. Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne - I put a fair amount of time into it this year, and I adore this game. I'm finishing it next year.

29. Shin Megami Tensei 5 - for real this year, I promise (🤞)

31. Undertale - why have I not played this? Why did it sit on my list last year untouched? Why did I install it and never play it? The world may never know.

30. Soul Hackers 2 - because again, I'm in my Atlus Games era and I bought it this year so time to play it.

32. Untitled Goose Game - for casual hijinks

I'm even more ambitious this year than last year and thats without knowing even half of whats to be released in 2024 sooo wish me luck.

hiii! like i said in my last post i spent a big portion of august being sick :| which involved spending like a Lot of the time sitting around playing pikmin 4, going "oh i think im thinking so hard about pikmin that its making me more tired?" and then playing more pikmin anyways. i 100%d this game guys it was so serious

books/comics/written media: paladins strength by ursula vernon: this is part of the saints of iron series, but i dont think context from the other books is really needed! romantasy/murder mystery about a nun and a paladin travelling together to the city by chance… they both have their own agendas but something draws them together 0///0 i found this really fun!! may have too much blood and guts for a pure romance fan but its very sort of pragmatic and down to earth in that ursula vernon way. nice dynamic between the leads, had a delightfully creepy (and sad!) antagonist and wrapped up threads from the previous book very nicely. would recommend 👍

in other words by jhumpa lahiri: semi autobiographical literary fiction about a (pulitzer winning) author who decides to move to italy and start writing exclusively in italian. (its translated!) hmmm as someone who also really loves languages but also doesnt really have the resources or desire to do something like. move to a different country (i mean maybe!) and only speak and write in that language from now on (probably not), it was a really interesting perspective. i was sort of put off by her attitude towards bengali but the whole "triangle of languages" theory makes sense… the writer is very straightforward and honest feeling in a way thats almost irritating sometimes but i think thats how a lot of artists are. and the concept alone is still very interesting.. lol anyways its a very short read so id still recommend 👍

the twisted ones by ursula vernon: horror. a woman is tasked with cleaning out her late hoarder grandmothers' house, located in rural north carolina. this was ursula vernons first horror book, i think! i was a little disappointed bc this wasnt very scary, exactly--but i feel like ive also been learning that even if i startle easily, my horror threshhold is actually very high……? i ended up liking what moves the dead more (it was scarier!) but this still had a fun cast of characters. still worth a read though :3 i enjoyed it

dungeon meshi by ryoko kui(catchup): manga about a group of adventurers looking for their lost friend. stuck in the dungeon for months on end, they resort to eating monsters! ohhhhh my god drags down myface dungeon meshi is literally one of the best manga out there and im glad everyone recognizes this. its about desire and need and the way unfulfilled desires is what propels our lives forward and gives them meaning and also how its SUPER IMPORTANT TO GET 3 NUTRITIOUS MEALS AND SLEEP 8 HOURS and all that. lol. phenomenal art i cant help but think that ryoko kui draws women as only a lesbian can..? highly recommend 👍

witch hat atelier by kamome shirahama(catchup): coming of age/fantasy manga--a girl discovers the secret behind the magic that powers her world. she's determined to use it to save her mother, but it may bring a heavy price--or maybe not at all…? like vita nostra (which i read last month!), this is also a book about learning magic that focuses heavily on pedagogy itself (which in this case is also a direct parallel to learning about art/drawing!). however, unlike vita nostra the characters are more like 10-11, and so it also takes a much more gentle and compassionate approach to how we should learn. but it also tackles some really interesting themes about restriction of information, and if said info should be restricted and why! and sort of digging deeper into the idea of "a secret hidden from the normal world". the art is soooo gorgeous i think its all done by hand? looks like a picture book can honestly get a bit overwhelming. highly recommend 👍

bloom into you: f/f manga about a girl who has never fallen in love, and a girl who never wants to be loved. bloom into you is one of those Yuri Classics that i enjoyed a lot as someone who has complicated feelings about romance :3 theres that really interesting quote thats like "love isnt about wanting someone to change or stay the same. when i say 'i love you,' its an expression of faith that even as you change, youll always be the person i adore"….. very interesting! also the sort of idea that you cant 'no true scotsman' love--you can just decide that you love someone, and then you do? kind of? anyways i thought it was pretty interesting :3

beastars: coming of age manga, set in a world kinda like zootopia but if someone thought about it way more. legosi, a large grey wolf struggles with distinguishing between his carnal desires and his, uh, carnivorous desires. ok EYE really liked it but also i think it handles a lot of themes really weirdly… maybe this is because legosi is just really fucking weird (this is definitely part of it) but in many ways beastars portrays the split between men and women as being even more uncrossable than the split between herbivores and carnivores.. which to me was surprising since the manga itself is written by a woman? definitely look up a TW list if youre planning on reading lol. it definitely has some of the best "what if animals lol" worldbuilding out there. i had louis/legosi/haru ot3 in my heart the whole way through LOL but i, uh, dont really think legosi and haru work as a couple just by themselves .. also the gaybait in here is crazy. i think past the midway or maybe 3/4 point it kinda starts to lose focus, but it still had a lot of compelling drama. yayyy louis beastars i think more theater kids should go through unbelievable self-inflicted pain

beast complex: anthology about the surrounding stories of the ppl of beastars. SO fun many people agree that the best part of beastars was the worldbuilding and this was basically all that. very fun :3

surviving romance: horror/adventure? chaerin wants nothing more than to live her fated fairy-tale life--so much so that people other than her love interest appear as nothing more than extras. one day ZOMBIES ATTACK!!!!11! very fun :33 maybe this is just me but is meta stuff getting more popular because of orv…? its not doing it as well ngl but still entertaining. chaerin trying to gain the trust of ppl that she originally didnt gaf about is fun

video games: pikmin 4: pikmin 4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its a game about being 1 inch tall and controlling your hordes of small creatures (pikmin) to gather things like fruits. i think i bought this when i was sick because i saw a post that was like "pikmin cured my executive function" lol everyone who plays pikmin doesnt fucking shut up about what an indie gem it is but theyre kinda right………pikmin is really good…. its all about finding beauty and joy in the small intricacies of this wide world……i know some people were annoyed by the story parts but i thought it was cute idk :] and oatchi was there . recommend if you like games like starcraft or if you like watching ants carry around a giant caterpillar

movies: farewell my concubine: coming of age/literary/tragedy/historical/??? its a wong kar wai movie. dieyi has nothing in his life but the stage, where he plays as the faithful concubine to a doomed king. his life offstage is much more fraught. i would dearly love to read any articles or things about this movie so if you got anything come find me? ALSO if you have the forbidden cancelled broadway adaption script please let me know. im so curious. ok so its a wong kar wai movie so everyone knows its crazy good already. did watch it when i was sick so not super coherent ideas about it but its like omggggg dieyiii hes so doomed. the way it integrated with history was also interesting (i kinda cant believe someone made a rakugo-based adaptaiton of this. bro it doesnt WORK like that) its really interesting that like dieyis single point of friction between himself and consort yu is his gender.. but that constant emasculation is also what allows him to be so unique in theater and have a special bond w xiaolou.. man well it really was a movie. i want to see it again in a couple months maybe..? its about performance and gender and Performance of Gender and sexuality and cyclical violence and art during a time of strife and art as apolitical and also art as very political. and also a lot of other stuff. very awesome

we are the tigers: thriller musical about a terrible group of cheerleaders coming together for the first meeting of the year. and bad shit happens!!! omg i love girls who kill. and girls who kill each other i dont think this was particularly deep or anything but i enjoyed it :3

nope: horror movie about oj and em, two siblings struggling to keep their stunt horse business running after their father dies. ok well like above its a jordan peele movie so of course its very good. scary as well! i loved the themes… i went back to when ppl were talkingabout the movie to see what people said! ngl i kinda thought jupe was going to have a bigger part in the movie but he was cool as he was. idk it was just very enjoyable and had a lot of things to think about. the idea of spectacle and like.. tragedy-voyeurism are something thats really important to examine closely in times like these i think?

when harry met sally: ROMCOM YAYY about a man and a woman meeting each other across multiple periods of their life. literally one of the only romcoms i can remember my dad openly admit to liking it really deserves the hype. its so heartfelt and sweet and genuinely funny and the character development is so good. its like gay people for straight people

how to lose a man in 10 days: romcom about a guy who thinks he can make any girl fall in love vs a girl who is trying to give the worst dating experience possible. um well it was ok? i only really felt the chemistry between the main leads in a couple of scenes (like when she visits his home) it wasnt really funny or romantic enough..? especially given that most of the humor was predicated on LOL LOOK HOW SHITTY AND CONTROLLING GFS CAN BE which is like ok fine. whatever. idk it was ok

annihilation: horror about a group of scientists who go into a unsettling area to see whats wrong with it.. um well i read the book first and i had heard that this was a pretty good adaptation ? a la howls moving castle book vs movie. i thought it was pretty good? but WAY more focused on the horror stuff than the book, and also (bc its a movie) not really able to focus on the characters interiorities as much..? and also like the way the characters slowly lose it in weird ways and their dynamic frays was one of the cooler parts of annihilation (book) to me. i think at the time having queer characters and characters of color and a cast comprised almost entirely of women was a pretty big deal though i think i heard a lot about it on tumblr lol. its hard not to nitpick on lots of details but i thought it was pretty good overall! a lot of the differences that i didnt like that much made sense as a migration from book->movie--like for example if theyd made the mc as cold and unfeeling it would have been harder to have her be a sympathetic movie protagonist. i thought the infidelity plot w the professor was kind of a timewaster though . anyways still recommend 👍

blue beetle: action movie about a guy whos blue and a beetle. i liked this a surprising amount but i also saw it with friends. the first half of the movie is kinda better than the first also being a tokusatsu fan makes me go "wow this would be so much better if it was with suit actors" lol but the first half of the movie was sooo fun i think also had a really good depiction of a genttrifying city which i enjoyed

oppenheimer: historical drama about that one guy. copy pasting my thoughts from discord: even my dad who liked the movie more was like wow… this movie was kinda too long idk i think it was like technically cool in terms of like imagery and sound and actgin and stuff. but i like wasnt really moved LOL. christopher nolan is playing a little game where i have to recognize as many white men in sequence as possible and im going to be real i can manage maybe like 3? also the whole outer shell plot with strauss and misha collins (EDIT: it was not misha collins) who literally unironically said "youre the god of shadows now" (????) was like. um well this is really intricate but also i dont really care…? like am i supposed to have a stake in this…..? and sort of the intertwining of that story combined w the creation of the atomic bomb was like kinda so-so (my inability to tell faces didnt help w this) it was fine but not really my kind of movie. omg i did like the part with like all the thundering applause and stuff but it blows up there was this part where they kept on being like omg the X incident. all this stuff happened with X and i was like wow what is it….. turns out it was literally referring to a recurring character that i neither remembered nor could recognize. sad

us: horror movie about doubles. YESSS SO FUCKING SCARY i watched this on the airplane to school and the old lady sitting next to me had to watch me hyperventilating and clutching my chest and the whole nine yards. definitely the scariest jordan peele movie. man and the twist at the end was so freaking good. i think its the scariest because the danger is so there, and so immediate, but the beginning part of the movie actually succeeded (for me?) in getting you to be invested in the characters as well. i was wondering if maybe the doubles were also supposed to be connected to like ideas of caricature about black people..? it leaves just enough unanswered that youre still scared. and the questions that do get answered leave you with………THE HORRIFYING TRUTH!! god what a good movie

moonlight: coming of age about a boy who struggles with being black and gay during the crack epidemic of the 80s/90s. < sorry if this isnt a good summary i remember this was a pretty important film when it came out.. i watched part of it a couple years ago and then just remembered to finish this month. its a good movie… you kinda just sit with it yk. hm i (obviously?) dont have a lot of experience with black masculinity but i thought it was interesting how vulnerability can be like taken away from you or you can withhold it from yourself..and that can feel or even be really powerful! but its also like never too late to do that until youre dead. waves my hands around
