Blind Date
Halstead reader x Jay halstead
Requested
Warnings: bad writing. misogynistic comments.
Synopsis: Your date goes horribly and Jay thinks it's the funniest thing ever.
Tumblr media
Note to self; never let Gallo set you up a blind date again. Never, ever let him within 50 feet of your dating life. And while you are at it, make sure Violet and Ritter get what's coming for their peer pressure in all of this.
"You know," Violet said, sitting down next to you at the table one shift, "One of us has to have a successful dating life and it might as well be you."
You turned and scowled at her, "Why me?"
Violet grinned, "Gallo is a lost cause and Ritter is, well, Ritter."
The two sitting across from you looked up from their plates and made mumbled protests. Violet shooed her hand at them, shutting them up. She turned back to you and started rattling off ideas to find you a date.
"What about a blind date?" Ritter said in passing, grinning as you scowled at him.
"I know the perfect guy! I went to the academy with him," Gallo said, growing excited in his typical Gallo way.
You screwed up your nose in disgust, "When has a blind date ever been a good experience?"
"Blind dates are fun!" Gallo protested.
Hermann gave Gallo an incredulous look as he walked by, muttering about Gallo's stupidity.
You laughed, "I'm with Hermann on this."
Ritter shrugged, trying to hide his grin, "Hey, maybe it will be fun. You never know until you actually go."
-
Oh, man were those three going to pay the next shift. You were sitting opposite one of the stupidest firefighters you had ever met. You spent the entire first half of the meal listening to him recount how he had made the record at the academy for whatever, you had almost completely zoned him out.
You were both finishing your meal when he finally asked something about you, "So you work at Firehouse 51 right?"
"Yea-"
"Man!" He interrupted, "That house has so many rumours! Don't you all live together or something?"
"Uh, I mean I guess?"
"Yeah, my house is super tight too, we'd die for each other ya know?" He launched into a recounting of when he almost died in a warehouse fire. Does this man ever stop talking about himself?
You finally finished your meal when he wrapped up his story. The young waitress came over and asked how your meal was, "Are y'all after the dessert menu?"
"No," You said at the same time your date said yes.
He laughed awkwardly, you completely ignored him.
"No, thank you," You clarified for the waitress, "Thank you though."
She returned with the bill after a few more moments, which you split and started to get ready to leave. Your date was almost dragging his feet, you regretted letting him pick you up.
"So, you and Gallo went to the academy at the same time?" You asked as you got into his passenger seat.
"Yeah!" He grinned, "Gallo and I were head to head during the academy, expected him to make squad already."
You nodded, "I'm sure he will soon," You and Gallo talked about making Squad a lot, both of you actively trying to pursue it, "We train together a lot."
Your date laughed, "You train for Squad?"
You frowned, "Yeah? Severiade said I have a real chanc-"
"Ha! Yeah right, a women firefighter on squad?"
You stared at him in awe, "What's wrong with that?"
He looked over at you as he realized you were offended, "Look, you have to be honest. The only reason female firefighters exist is that the academy lowered the physical standards and woke culture at work."
It took you a few seconds to actually process what he said. When you did, you replied, "Ok yeah. Uh, Pull over, now."
"What? Why?"
"Pull over!" You demanded, "Let me out now."
He pulled to the side of the street, watching with a frown as you got out of his car and grabbed your bag, "Take this as a no to a second date."
You slammed the door and started walking down the street. Never let a date pick you up, that was your second mistake. The first mistake was letting Gallo near your dating life.
You pulled out your phone, opening the group chat you Gallo, Ritter and Violet were in.
Blind dates are the worst, I hate you, Gallo.
You watched Ritter and Violet immediately respond with laughing emojis. You ignored the conversation and opened your phone to see if Jay was working. You knew there was a good chance he would be working, but if he was too busy you could always try Will.
"Halstead," Jay answered the phone after three rings.
"Do you not check Caller ID?"
You could hear the pause as Jay rolled his eyes, it was your greeting now. "What do you want?"
You giggled, "Are you at work?"
"Yeah, sitting in the Bullpen, why?"
"Any chance you can come get me? I'm stranded." You said sheepishly.
"Stranded?" He asked.
"Gallo set me up on a blind date and I couldn't be around that prick anymore so, I walked out," You explained, bracing yourself for his response.
"Who goes on blind dates anymore?" He chuckled, clearly trying to hide how amused he was.
"Don't be mean," You heard Hailey in the background.
"Yeah! Don't be mean to your little sister who is stranded in downtown Chicago in the middle of the night," You replied.
"Alright, Alright," Jay sighed, "Where are you?"
You relayed your location to him, rattling off the street signs around you.
"Okay, just stay there, Hailey and I will be there in ten."
You sighed, putting your phone back in your pocket and crossed your arms over your chest. There was no way you would hear the end of this from anyone in intelligence. You could already hear Ruzek and Atwater's jokes about how terrible an idea blind dates were.
You were about to text Jay and ask him where he was, when you heard police sirens from a few streets over.
Please, lord no.
The black police car came around the corner much slower than was necessary, you could see Jay grinning like the Cheshire cat through the windscreen. The few people who were on the street looked over at the commotion, you could feel their stares as Jay did a U-turn and pulled up beside you.
He turned off the sirens, climbing out of the car.
"What are you doing out here alone, young lady?"
"Jesus Christ, Jay," You sighed, smacking his chest, "Do you make everything in a commotion?"
"Ma'am, did you just assault my partner?" Hailey called from the passenger seat.
You threw your hands up, "I should have just walked home!"

Hostage Situation
Requested by anonymous
Tumblr media
I had always had a knack for helping people. However, instead of becoming a police officer, like my brother Jay, or a surgeon, like my brother Will, I became a nurse. Working at Chicago Med was everything I dreamed it'd be. Plus, getting to work alongside one of my brothers most days was usually enjoyable. Today, however, I was with both of my brothers at work. But it wasn't a pleasant experience.
"I will shoot you," the man holding the gun to my head insisted, his finger hovering over the trigger.
The hostage taker, Dan, had barged into the ED arguing to speak to the doctor who was in charge of treating his son. And when no one would answer his questions, he pulled out his gun and grabbed the nearest employee, which just so happened to be me. So now, here I was, trapped in the doctors' lounge with a gun pointed at my head. Thankfully, Jay was also in the room, and his gun was out as well, but aimed at Dan instead of me. From where I was standing, I could see Will out in the ED watching the situation, and by the way he was acting, plus the face he was making, I could tell that he was very worried.
"Dan, I know my opinion isn't that important right now, but could you not shoot me? For a nurse who deals with needles and sharp equipment everyday, my pain tolerance isn't that high," I explain.
"Y/n, please shut up and let me deal with this," Jay hissed, his gaze still focused on Dan.
"What? I just wanted him to know," I defend.
"Both of you shut up!" Dan demanded. "Now, Detective, if I don't speak to Dr. Smith in the next five minutes, I'm gonna kill her."
"I already told you Dr. Smith isn't in today," I say. "So if you could just put the gun down and let me go."
"I said I want to speak to Dr. Smith. Now!" Dan commanded.
When it was clear Dan wasn't going to budge, I turned to my other options. As soon as Dan's finger was far enough away from the trigger, I reached up, grabbed the gun with one hand, elbowed Dan in the face with the other, and pushed myself away from him. Now, I had the gun, and Dan was armed. Jay rushed in quickly, handcuffing Dan, who was now on the floor, and turned to me.
"What the hell was that?" Jay asked as another officer escorted Dan out of the room.
"That was what I learned in the self defense classes you made me take when I started college," I respond. "But no thank you for taking down the criminal?"
"I'm glad you're okay," Jay breathed out and pulled me in for a hug. Seconds later, we were joined by Will, who wrapped his arms around the two of us.
"You had me so worried," Will admitted. "But when are you gonna learn to shut your mouth?"
"Never," I reply playfully. "Now come on. Shift is over, and I need a drink. First round is on you guys."

~
There’s no Halstead family dinner that’s uneventful and that includes tonight. Everyone’s here at dad’s home for our weekly dinner. Will was the one who insisted on having dinners like this to spend time together after dad’s narrow escape from death in the apartment fire (and to watch dad’s diet once in a while, not that Will would admit that).
Dad’s seated at one end of the table and Will at the other end while Jay and Hailey sat at one side of the table and Alina and I sat at the other side of the table. Alina is my niece, Jay’s and Hailey’s daughter, who’s turning 8 years old in a few months.
Our plates were all loaded up with food that Will and I cooked since we’re in-charge of dinner tonight.
“The mashed potatoes are so good! I’m guessing Evie cooked it?” Jay said, in between mouthfuls of mashed potatoes. I laughed, “That’s right, big brother, and it’s mom’s recipe so can’t go wrong.”
There’s a pause of silence after I mentioned mom but that’s normal, we all miss her. Trying to cheer the moment, Hailey complimented the pasta that everybody knew Will made because it was his go-to dish to cook (and his most famous in the family). Dinner resumed and everyone made small talks with each other.
“I want to eat bread with nutella,” whined Alina and I glanced over to see that her dinner was already half-eaten. “Go and take the bread and nutella from the kitchen,” I instructed and Alina smiled cheerfully, skipping to the kitchen and back to the dining table with said items.
I helped Alina to spread the nutella on the bread and continued eating my dinner. Not even 5 minutes later, Alina called out to me, “I want more,” so I said, “You can do it yourself, Alina”. I pushed the bread and nutella to her. I was about to continue eating when dad voiced out, “Why can’t you just do it for her? She wants to eat it.”
Before I could even answer, he continued, “Sometimes, I think that you don’t like Alina. The way you treat her at times is just uncalled for.” I looked at dad, was he being serious? Was he really going to talk about this during dinner? Granted I’m not the kind of aunt who’s lovey dovey with their niece but that doesn’t mean I don’t love her. I’m rough with her because she’s like my younger sister who can tolerate and even return that treatment to me. It was like your typical sister siblings behaviour. Regardless, it was a mutual agreement that we don’t upset each other while eating and dad being dad, went straight to break it.
“Dad, Evie’s in the middle of eating, she hasn’t eaten since lunch and was busy the whole evening, besides, Alina’s old enough to spread the nutella on her own.” I heard Will saying. I felt myself shut down, which usually happens when I’m upset.
“Yeah dad, Alina can do it herself, don’t be mad,” Hailey started before turning to me and apologised, “Sorry Evie”. I shook my head and smiled (more like grimaced) at her, whispering a short “it’s okay”. Then, before Alina could reach the bread, I took it and made one for her. My eyes got teary and I knew if I talked I’d cry so I whispered to her, asking if she wanted more. Alina nodded so I made another piece for her.
I went silent the entire dinner. Having lost appetite after what happened, I ate slowly and ended up picking half of what’s left on my plate. I felt Will nudging my leg from under the table and I looked up to see the concern in his eyes. I smiled and continued picking at my food.
One by one, everybody finished their dinner and I carried my own plate together with what’s left on the dining table to the kitchen. Tonight, it was also mine and Will’s turn to clear the dishes and clean the kitchen. So while the two of us were in the kitchen, the rest were in the living room watching tv.
“I’m sorry about dad. He shouldn’t have said that, especially when we’re eating.” Will said, starting what he hoped to be a conversation that I honestly was not in the mood for. I shrugged and replied, “Whatever, not the first time and i’m sure it’s not gonna be the last. Let’s just clear all these so we can go home.” My tone giving Will no room to retort or continue the conversation. So we cleaned in silence and soon dad’s kitchen was back to its original state, clean and tidy.
‘Hey dad, I’m gonna go home first. See ya around,” I didn’t bother to wait for any replies before heading out the front door.
“Evie!” I heard Jay called out and stopped. I felt Jay approaching before he entered my line of sight. “I want to apologise for dinner, about Alina and Dad. I know you love my daughter, no doubt about that. It’s not fair for dad to say that to you, after what you’ve done for Alina ever since she was a baby. I’m not excusing him but it’s not like you don’t know him, right. Please don’t let this be our last family dinner.” Jay said.
I scoffed because yeah, I know what dad is like, but I thought he could’ve at least spared my dignity over dinner. “Don’t worry big brother, I’m not gonna disappear just because of tonight. I’ve faced worst than this, and I’m sorry too about Alina, I could’ve just prepared more than one piece of bread and no drama would occur. It's my fault too.”
Jay laughed and shook his head, “Don’t blame yourself, we’re Halstead, what’s life without drama,” he paused, then continued, “Okay, not gonna keep you here any longer than you’d want, so see ya around kiddo, and wait for Will, you live with him,” Jay ruffled my hair and went back in. Seconds after, Will was rushing out of the house.
“You’re so impatient, lil sis, left me high and dry in there to explain to dad why we’re rushing back home,” I heard Will and rolled my eyes. As Will turned the car engine on, he looked at me and said, “Dad said he’s sorry for what he said just now,”
I nodded. I looked at the house dad stayed and thought about the people inside and knew that I wouldn’t change this family for anything, even with the baggage it comes with.
“Okay.”

One Chicago Screwed Over the Halstead Brothers
and most other siblings and their fans...
Ever since COVID came around, the crossovers stopped happening. I could understand that for the first year or two, while protocols were being created and put into place, and everyone wanted to protect the actors. But then things never went back to normal. Full crossovers never resumed happening.
We never got to see Jay and Will share scenes together again. Mini crossovers happened in the following years, with Hailey, Ruz or Kim going to Med for some reason and they interacted with those other characters. Or Fire characters would go on Med or PD. But you're telling me that not once could Jay and Will share scenes in that time?
Where was Will when Jay was going off the rails because of the Voight and Hailey BS a few seasons ago?
Where was Will, when Jay and Hailey eloped and got married?
Where was Will when Jay decided to leave Chicago and go to Bolivia?
Where was Jay each time Will was close to getting fired and losing his job?
Where was Jay, after the wedding to Natalie never happened?
Where was Jay, when Will suddenly up and decided to leave Chicago to be with Natalie and Owen?
It's gotten to the point where anyone new to the One Chicago franchise, wouldn't ever know that Jay and Will were brothers because they hadn't shared scenes since COVID started.
But it's not just them. It's like all siblings in the franchise barely share scenes. The Dawson siblings only had a handful of scenes when their characters were still around.
Kevin and his siblings only had a few episodes together.
Erin and Teddy NEVER shared scenes again after the episode where they find out he was a victim of a pedo sex ring.
We've NEVER seen a single scene of Hailey with her brothers.
We haven't seen Kim's sister in years. Doubt she even knows Kim adopted Mak.
Sylvie hasn't seen her sister in years, since the mom died.
Don't get me wrong, I know that the siblings in all these shows can't have scenes together all the time, but jeez, they can't even bother to have sibling scenes once a season, or have one of these characters share a phone call with their brother or sister?
I'm sure that I'm forgetting many other sibling pairs in the franchise, but it's 5:42 am as I type this and I needed to get this rant out.

Falling in love with you
Characters: Jay Halstead x Sibling!Reader, Will Halstead x Sibling!Reader, Stella Kidd, Christopher Hermann
Warnings: Overprotective brothers, swearing, minor injuries. Incorrect information about the American School system (Apologies for mistakes)
Summary: Growing up, you’ve always had eyes on you and your brothers did everything they could to get them off.
*****
You were the youngest sibling and being a girl definitely did not help anything. The years between you three weren’t much but it was still there and always used as leverage, something you did take to your advantage when you could easily put the blame on them or sweet talk you parents while they tended to struggle a bit more.
Now, the Halstead genes were strong, and they did not miss when it came to the three of you. Your brothers were in a league of their own, looking so different but so alike. Adding to the mix, Will’s red hair, Jay’s green eyes and your mothers height, was you.
Being the youngest came with pros and cons that you could go on for hours, but you were as humble as they came. Being the only girl came with its pros and cons, one of the pros that was also a con was your brothers were extremely protective of you.
Curse that damned Halstead stubbornness. Chicago continues to send their wrath towards you three because of it.
Anyways, carrying on with being overprotective, something your brothers prided themselves in being.
The first time they truly showed it was one random day at the local park. You were all young, playing around and being stupid, like always. For some reason, the three of you decided to play hide and seek, you being the seeker.
So, you started counting to twenty, kicking the greying tarmac with your worn out shoes, hearing your mother scold you in your head for ruining and tearing said shoes.
Reaching nineteen, excitement built up, jumping on the spot you were preparing yourself to run and find your brothers, shoving it in their faces when you found them. But you never made it to twenty, a hand tapping your shoulder making you whip around, braid smacking you cheek harshly.
The boy seemed around Jay’s age, but you’d never seen him before. You knew a lot of people both in the area and at school, so you deducted he didn’t live here.
Tilting your head to the side, you confronted him. “I’m sorry but I’m busy, I can’t talk to you right now.”
Thinking that was more than enough, you turned around and was about to shout really loud to let your siblings know you were coming to find them, but he poked your shoulder again.
Before you could confront him again, your six year old self felt a presence behind you. The familiarity of that tall shadow made you crane your neck up, coming face to face with your older brother.
“Dude, back off.” Jay made sure to enunciate each word with as much grit as he could. “Don’t be a pedo.”
Yes, Jay was very much exaggerating, but he felt that, taking into account the situation, it seemed appropriate.
Before your green eyed brother could go any further, you heard Will calling for the both of you, your parents standing further behind him. They must’ve come back from the market. Did you really take that long to count?
Looking back at the boy, you sent him an awkward smile, not too sure what to make of the situation and ran into your ma’s open arms.
Jay followed but not before giving his best glare at the boy, eyes never breaking contact even as he walked away.
*****
Between the ages of six and thirteen, a lot had happened.
First, you grew up, maturing at an earlier age in comparison to your brothers. Your mother made sure she always made that apparent, boasting about a girls maturity and how much easier they were to handle.
But, little did she know she wouldn’t be there to watch as it got harder.
Second, you started ‘womanhood’, getting your first period and all that jazz. It was a rollercoaster and it made absolutely no sense at first, but you got there.
This wasn’t the second time Jay and Will were overprotective, definitely not but this was one for the books.
It was your last year in middle school, you were still thirteen since your birthday was in august, at the end of the school year and your classmates constantly used that to their advantages during the time you spent together.
The school was holding a dance. The last week had all sorts of different things to do, making it as memorable as possible and this dance was a version of high school prom but for eight graders.
You were confused as to why your mother was getting emotional, watching as you refused to wear bright coloured dresses like the other girls in your class, much preferring to go in a smart shirt but with much reluctance, settling with a navy blue knee length dress that complimented your red hair.
Untold to your brothers, you had a date. Well, it was more forced by both your friend groups and there was no attraction on either of your behalf’s yet here you were.
His parents came to pick you up, him ringing the doorbell as his parents stood behind him.
Refusing to open the door, Will more than happily volunteered to do it, opening the door with such enthusiasm it made you openly gag, earning an elbow to your side from Jay.
He liked this as much as you did and after hundreds of attempts, he had gotten nowhere in his protests.
“Ma, Pa, Jay and Will, Noah and Mr and Mrs Parker. Noah, Mr and Mrs Parker, my brothers, Ma and Pa.” You introduced everyone to each other, hands gesturing at each person when they were named.
It was very subtle, and they pulled it off far too well.
While the parents were talking, you had gone to get a last minute drink of water and your brothers took this time to get whatever message they had through to Noah.
They were very successful. Noah was shaking like a leaf, flinching away from you and refusing to hold hands when taking pictures, sitting in the farthest corner of the car and never to be seen again when you got to the dance.
What to do, what to say.
You were thankful, to say the least. It was the biggest relief, not having to fake anything and not being around a boys company. There was no need for the overprotectiveness, but you were grateful for it today.
*****
Sixteen was a wonderful age. That’s what society says but then your mother had fallen sick out of the blue.
Being a typical seventeen year old, Jay continuously butted heads with you both in amusement and distaste. While Will, well, he was Will.
So, you had a crush, your first male crush. Emphasis on the had. He was a new boy in your maths class, having moved from another state.
It became scary just how much you were interested in him that you were disgusted with you behaviour. Why were you adapting features of a stalker? Nothing felt right when you came to the realisation just how infatuated you were with him that you forced your feelings away.
You were happy with yourself. No feelings left and moving onto your next platonic female crush that was really your best friend, who you promised that if you were single at thirty, you would marry each other and she was over the moon, accepting with her pinky finger.
Will was at med school, Jay was sitting on a metal chair next to you, you were eating a cookie and your best friend spilling school drama.
Jay wouldn’t admit it, but he would always listen to your best friend every time she talked about school gossip, finding it somewhat interesting and even getting invested when he found out the things that happened despite going to the exact same school as the two of you.
“Emily, there’s no way a teacher and student hooked up, that’s mad.” You shook your head, not believing her words as you broke the rest of your cookie in half, giving a half each to Jay and Emily.
Without hesitation, they took the sweet treat, Jay taking his attention away from his phone and onto the two of you, fully invested in the drama.
“That’s illegal.” Jay added, as if you two already didn’t know.
You looked at him, eyes shouting ‘are you being serious right now’
The voice was loud, shouting your name from across the street. All three of your heads snapped in the voices direction and Emily obnoxiously scoffed at the sight of your former crush turned classic high school football team bully.
A mouth full, yes, but that’s what he was now.
This was going to be a disaster, you didn’t have to be a genius to know that.
His teasing made your blood churn, his smirk made you want to wipe it away with antibacterial wipes. His gang of friends hanging back, egging him on and slapping his shoulder with pride at each of his comments.
Clearly, he was blind, not noticing your older brother sitting literally right next to you.
You had this under control, having to deal with his new personality at school all the time, you were basically an expert in the bully department.
“Back off man.” Jay stood up, chucking his phone and unfinished half of the cookie into your awaiting hands that you held up before he even spoke.
Your brothers played this overprotective role way too often, especially in public that you memorised how everything would play out.
“Why should I? You have no authority over a girl, y’know, feminism and all that shit.” He laughed to himself, over the moon with his comeback.
“Take a step back and think about what you just said, really think about it.” Jay said with a humorous tone. “If you’re going to be a dick, at least do it right.”
Emily smacked her hand over her mouth, muffling her loud gasp as she watched with wide eyes despite being familiar with you brothers protectiveness.
You sat, watching unfazed. Honestly, you were expecting Jay to be a bit mouthier, maybe even a little physical.
It wasn’t until you heard another voice, one that didn’t belong to any of the boys surrounding you three. You knew that voice and bit your lip, your eyes shining in realisation.
“Oh fuck.” Emily whispered loud enough for you to hear, taking a pause between her words to express her shock. “This is going to be good.”
Will Halstead stood in all his med school glory, his student scrubs still on under his jacket. His eyes zeroed in on the man of the hour, eyebrow raised in recognition.
“You.” His voice was strong and firm, scaring all the high school boys which was surprising as Jay was the brother that was all for the threatening and all that scary jazz while Will was more on the nurturing side of all things.
The boys cowered, and your ex crush gulped at the sight of your eldest brother.
“Oh shit.” He squeaked. “I’m fucked.”
*****
You had your fair share of people falling in love with you, ranging from a boy trying to introduce himself at six, forced love at thirteen, an attempted of bad boy falls for the good girl at sixteen to all of the others to now.
You were looking pretty good for a thirty year old. Well, you turned thirty today but as Jay and Will liked to point out, you wouldn’t truly be thirty till around four in the afternoon.
Speaking of Jay and Will, it’d been a hot minute since you saw them. Because of all your jobs, the three of you were constantly colliding.
How it happened will always be a mystery, but you were all first responders: Will a doctor, Jay a detective and you, a firefighter.
The Halstead name must’ve been known by a lot of Chicago and by most of the staff that worked at Med, the 21st District and the firehouse. It was funny when the three of you happened to be together during work hours and responding to the same voice shouting your shared surname.
Being a female firefighter came with its pros and cons but with experience, all the cons became tolerable, and the pros made you smile brighter.
Realistically speaking, it was a miracle the three of you were still employed with that stubbornness that seemed to shine a bit too bright sometimes. Only sometimes though.
Your legs were swinging back and forth as you sat on the hospital bed, voices muffled as they spoke outside about what just happened.
Currently, you were at med for injuries that were all superficial. Being the siblings of a doctor, you and Jay found yourselves getting hurt a lot and Will always was on the receiving end of the phone, being told you two somehow hurt yourself and was being brought in. Jay was always reckless, constantly getting shot and you couldn’t stop yourself from being burnt and inhaling smoke.
It was truly a miracle Will had no grey hair because the first would be from either you or Jay, maybe both.
The curtain was opened, your legs stopped swinging and you sent your older brothers the brightest smile you could muster.
“None of this was my fault.” Was the first thing you said, hands in the air in surrender as you looked back and forth at both brothers. “It’s my birthday, why would I willingly want to see your brooding faces.”
Jay looked at you with a raised brow, hands going into the pocket of his dark jeans while Will rolled his eyes and came forward to look at the extent of your injuries.
You winced when Will inspected the bruise on your wrist, the colour was a mix of purple and blue. At Will’s frown, you tried reassuring him that it was nothing, poorly pushing him away so he would stop inspecting you.
“What happened?”
Looking back at Jay with uncertainty, you debated whether you wanted to tell the story or let one of the guys on truck let them know.
Your eyes were squinted, one hand acting as shade so you could properly see as the other was comfortably placed on your hip. Holding back your laugh was difficult in this situation, especially when your boss was on the verge of strangling the man.
A cat was stuck in a tree, a classic yes but it was a situation that was a waste of time. The cat would come out on its own accord eventually, they were meant to be allowed in the wild to do whatever they want, not to be saved by firefighters.
The man whose cat was stuck in the tree didn’t seem fazed at all in comparison to his stress and instability over the phone when he called for help. Instead, his muscular build was standing to your right, talking your ear off.
Not paying attention, you rolled your eyes at the underlying tone in his voice. He was trying to charm you and it was clear you weren’t the only person who noticed, Stella snorting behind her hand before clearing her throat and making her excuses, apparently needing to help out with the rescue.
You watched her walk away, eyes desperate, begging for her to come back.
Thinking fast, you too excused yourself saying you were needed and hastily followed after Stella, not wanting to be along with the man despite the most harm him doing was none stop chatter.
Stella stopped, turning slightly so you could catch up and ‘help’ the rest of your team in getting the cat out, but you didn’t make it to her side, a voice calling for you as a hand circled around your wrist.
The force around your wrist made you stop in your tracks, eyes landing on the man. You looked at him in shock, eyebrows furrowed as you turned to fully face him.
You had to remind yourself you were working, and people were watching, both members of the public and truck.
Before you could say anything, Stella interrupted. “Hey! You mind letting my friend go so we can get back to work?” She said was a raised voice, her expression screaming that if he made a wrong move he was fucked.
You sent him a tight lipped smile and turned to walk away but his grip got tighter, pulling you towards him so your back hit his chest.
He was quick, so quick that despite your fast reflexes, you didn’t see it coming. Neither did Stella expect it either, shouting at him to let you go as she made her way towards you with slow steps as to not provoke him any further.
Being this close to him was suffocating and you weren’t claustrophobic at all, you were trained to fit into small places.
Scoffing, you looked up and harshly pushed him away, not caring that he staggered, nor of your pulsating wrist or of the peering eyes of a forming crowd holding out phones to record everything that unfolded.
You were so stupid. How hadn’t you noticed that familiar scar on his eyebrow and that chipped tooth that was inflicted onto him at the ripe age of sixteen.
Pointing an accusing finger at him, your eyes squinting threateningly. “You”
That stupid ex crush of yours from high school that was relentless, always trying to get your attention even after he was confronted and even physically threatened by your brothers.
He smirked and looked as if he was about to burst into a soliloquy.
A silver glimmer caught your attention, shining in your eyes making you divert your attention away from the man expressing his infinite love for you, you found an awfully familiar object in his pocket that his hand was tucked in.
A fucking blade.
Behind you, Stella was silent, watching both of your actions closely as she informed Hermann, who was having difficulty standing back, of your predicament. She too caught the hand size weapon sticking out of his pocket and didn’t miss the darkness blanketing his eyes as you gave him a strict warning.
Once again, it was all so fast that you didn’t get time to hit back.
His hand appeared from his pocket, lunging at your retreating figure. His voice was raised but was lost under the shouts of your colleagues and friends. He was being pulled away but not before doing some decent damage to your face and wrist, your complaints fell on deaf ears about how this wasn’t how you were meant to look on your birthday.
Sighing in defeat, you slumped in Hermann’s arms that was restricting you from going any further. Mumbling a quick thank you, you patted his arms and insisted to be let go, promising not to do any harm to the man being pulled away by the rest of truck, officers yet to arrive to the scene.
Standing up straight, shaking off your gear, you made eye contact with him for a split second, taking the second to flip him off, relishing in the laughs it received from your crew, ignoring the gasps the bystanders let out at the gesture.
“Just to be sure, let’s get you to med.”
You finished your story with a lazy smile. “And here I am.”
“But you already knew what happened because you hassled everyone didn’t you?” It wasn’t even a question, it was a fact. You knew your brothers too well for your own good.
“I mean.” You paused, hissing when a nurse started disinfecting the scar on your brow. “We saved his cat at least.”
“Y/N” Will sounded tired and well in fact fed up. “This is serious, he attacked you.”
You shrugged, it was nothing knew, and you’d definitely been through worse. “What’s he looking at?” You ignored Will and looked at Jay.
“Don’t you worry about that.” Jay shook it off, deflecting your question. “Can you go and marry Emily so that we don’t have to worry about your depleting love life anymore?”
Will snorted, remembering the pinky promise you and your best friend made back in high school. A promise that was still strong since you and Emily was as thick as thieves.
“You know what?” You challenged your brunet brother. “We’ll get drunk at Molly’s tonight and find an open courthouse to sign the papers. Might even buy her a ring pop.”
The three of you settled into silence at your very serious comment and very serious face before bursting into laughter.
How people found you irresistible would always be a question you’d contemplate on for the rest of your life but then you remembered just how easily girls fell to their feet, immediately falling in love, at the sight of your devilishly looking brothers.

Counting Breaths
Fandom: Chicago PD / Chicago Med
Characters: Jay Halstead, Halstead!Sibling
Genre: hurt/comfort
Warnings: asthma, mucus/phlegm
Word Count: 1927
Requested By Anonymous: Sibling!Reader x Jay Halstead x Will Halstead - I’m kinda basing this off of your Soccer Practice imagine. Feel free to accept or make it however you want - Something kinda like the reader staying over at either brother’s house and during the middle of the night has an asthma attack… -That’s all I got, just something very simple you could make into whatever if you want to. :)
A/N: I hope I could do this justice for you, anon!
-
It’s no surprise to you when the coughing wakes you up, your chest fighting against whatever was aggravating it so much. You’re hunched over as the constant coughing gives you no chance to even try and sit up, take a breath or press the ‘call’ button your brothers had installed in your room at both of their apartments. This time you were at Jay’s apartment, it was the weekend and Will was busy covering for Natalie so she could have a camping trip with her parents and Owen.
You feel your ribs start to ache in protest of the constant strain, your chest wall feeling sore as you take ragged breaths. Your eyes are watering and your head pounds, you know you’ll have burst blood vessels in your face in the morning, each of your nerves and muscles fighting together to get the irritation under control.
There’s a momentary pause in the coughing and you try and twist in bed to press your button, your hand is shaking as you pant, trying to calm down. Luckily for you there’s no need for the button to be reached as you suddenly hear Jay’s door opening and his quick footsteps towards you, the bedroom door opens and the lamp by your desk is flicked on.
“Hey, kiddo, I’m here.” He speaks softly, concern on his face as he already has the top drawer of your bedside table open, pulling out one small fabric pouch and a slightly larger one.
You’re taking shaky breaths, a slight wheeze to your breathing as you blink with stinging eyes.
“Hi-hi…” You try and smile but another round of coughs breaks the silence and you’re pushing against your chest to try and feel some reprieve from the pressure.
Jay sits on the edge of your bed, his hand is a warm and comforting weight as he rubs your back, letting you get it out for a minute, not liking the way you almost throw up from the aggravation on your body. Your body is wracked with tension until it subsides once again.
“Okay, here we go, let’s get the pemdi and spacer working together, alright?” You nod meekly, leaning into Jay’s body as he keeps you sitting upright. The ‘pemdi’ as Jay called it was actually called your pMDI inhaler, the inhaler that you could attach to the tube known as a ‘spacer’ so that you got your medicine more efficiently - Will had stressed the importance of always communicating with you what was happening, even if it was the hundredth time.
Like you had many times before you turn your head to the side, knowing you had to give your best exhale in order to inhale the steroids.
“Are you ready?” Jay asks, with a steady palm still against your upper back.
You nod, nearing the maximum of your exhale.
“Okay, here we go…” He gently places the spacer over your mouth,
“1, 2, 3.” He counts you down to the release of the medicine into the spacer,
“Inhale, Y/N, deep and slow.” You do as instructed, instinctively closing your eyes as you focus on the inhale, taking every bit of your medication in as you feel the tightness in your chest give ever so slightly.
“Okay, now hold that for as long as you can, sweetheart.” Jay encourages, taking away the inhaler and spacer as he resumes the gentle motions on your back, kissing the side of your head.
Jay waits patiently, counting silently as you get to 7 and then exhale again.
“Good, that’s good.” He soothes, smiling at you as you turn, dropping your head on his chest, wrapping your arms around him.
“Better?” He asks quietly, holding you as long as you needed.
“Better.” You sigh, focusing on maintaining those steady inhales and exhales, waiting in slight anticipation of another round of coughing.
“We’ll sit for a bit, just to make sure nothing’s starting back up again once you try to sleep. Here, scoot over.” Jay momentarily releases you as you make room for him on the bed, sitting against the mountain of pillows you used to prop yourself up.
He wraps an arm around you and you fall back into his side, feeling the comfort of his presence as always, he tugs the duvet back up over you, keeping you cosy in the chill of the room.
“Thanks, Jay-Jay…” You sigh, wrapping your arms around his middle, listening to his own steadily thudding heart.
“Never a problem, Y/N, never.” He murmurs, kissing the top of your head, speaking once again in the quiet of the room,
“Did you want to put on some Prehistoric Planet, just until we know for sure you can get back to sleep?”
He feels you shift, you hum with peaked interest, you most definitely wanted to watch Prehistoric Planet even if you were half asleep.
“I’ll take that as a yes.” He chuckles, snatching up the remote from the bedside table and turning on the TV, turning down the brightness a little to save both your eyes from the bright glare.
Jay and Will had both got you a TV as presents one Christmas, knowing how sometimes you would have to be home from school because of your asthma, or up at strange times with nothing to do that wasn’t exerting energy. It had worked wonders for helping you feel a little calmer, and it meant you could rest in comfort and privacy rather than being in a lounge.
You had been sitting watching for all of 10 minutes when that familiar sensation bubbled up in your chest like poison suddenly spreading, immediately you were coughing, each cough getting more violent than the previous. Jay quickly sat right back up again, leaning you forward just a touch to keep you upright.
“Okay, it’s alright, just get it out, you got it.” Your big brother encouraged you, his own expression tense with concern. It was always a fear that these kinds of attacks would develop into something worse, like they had on other occasions, something that would require the hospital.
The attack subsides and you repeat the steps once more. Exhale, place spacer over the mouth, press the inhaler, inhale slowly, hold your breath, remove the spacer, exhaling when ready.
You sit, zoned out on your bed, catching your breath as your ribs protest the intense work they’re forced into. Jay sits for another five minutes, waiting to make sure you weren’t going to start up again immediately.
Your eyes are drooping, cuddled back up to your brother, feeling your mood dip a little at how exhausting this could be.
“Okay, good job, kiddo. I’m gonna get the rest of the stuff.”
You nod slightly, releasing Jay from your hold so he could get up.
You sit blankly watching the dinosaurs on screen before your big brother returns, holding the items you needed on a tray.
“Here we go.” He smiles reassuringly, stroking a thumb over your forehead and down your nose, a motion that had relaxed you since you were a baby.
“First, let’s rinse and spit.” He instructs, handing you the water as he holds a bowl beneath you. It was important to not let the steroids sit in your mouth after inhaling, as that could lead to irritation and other problems.
You rinse your mouth and spit, then take the glass for a few real, soothing, sips.
“Okay, now let’s do the decongestant.” Jay sits for this one, shaking the spray bottle for a count of ten. He then presses the trigger for the spray until he can see the mist, the sign that it was ready to use.
Next, he plucks a few tissues from the box beside your bed, handing them to you. You wordlessly blow your nose, ridding yourself of the mucus and then clear your throat into another tissue to release the phlegm that had built up too. You make a noise of disgust, another thing you were not a fan of when dealing with all of this.
“I know, I’m so sorry. It really sucks, kid.” Jay squeezes your shoulder, handing you the bin to put the tissues in the trash. He then passes you some sanitiser and you make sure to thoroughly cover your hands.
“Right, I think we’re good, you ready?” You nod, yawning, “Ready, Jay.”
“Almost there, Y/N, you’re doing great.” Jay encourages, testing the nasal spray one more time before asking you to tilt your head forward.
“Okay, hold the other nostril closed whilst I do this one. Remember, breathe in gently, no hard snort.” You giggle, remembering the very first time you and Jay had done this together and the spray had gone up your nose way too harshly, Will was not pleased.
Your brother has a smile on his face too, shaking his head as he knows you’re remembering the same occasion as he is. Angling the nozzle just right, he counts once more.
“Okay, on 3. 1, 2, 3…” Jay sprays and you breathe in slow, the sensation is weird but not the worst.
“Exhale through your mouth.” Jay prompts, you exhale slow. You were starting to feel a lot better with the different exercises and treatments.
“Let’s do the other one, okay?”
You nod, glad to feel a bit more attached to reality now. “Okay.”
The process is repeated with the other nostril, and you’re relieved when it doesn’t drip from your nose or down your throat, it meant you’d done it right and there would be no gross taste or sensation in your mouth.
“Good job. Okay, now just the preventative and then I think we should try going back to sleep, what do you think?” Jay brushes his fingers through your wild bed hair, smoothing down the fly away hairs, squeezing you in a gentle one-armed hug.
“Sounds good, I’m sleepy as heck.” And as if on cue, your body produces a loud yawn, resting your head on Jay again. Jay smiles, kissing your forehead, he loved you so much.
“Let’s get this last thing done, then you’re free to sleep for as long as you need. And I was thinking we could play Mario Kart later, maybe order lunch and watch a movie? You can pick.”
You lift your head, excitement on your face, “Yes please, that sounds awesome.”
“That’s settled then, let’s do your preventative, and then we can sleep.”
Jay switches out the inhalers, getting you to repeat the same process as before with the different canister. When it’s all done your brother moves all the paraphernalia off your bed, you do another rinse and spit before shuffling down to half lay and half sit against your pillows, watching him with fluttering eyes.
Jay turns the TV back off and hands you your giant Triceratops plushy, his name was Terry. This was a gift from Adam who had gone to the trouble of finding a hypoallergenic comfort toy that wouldn’t aggravate your asthma.
“Okay, goodnight, kiddo. I love you, and if you don’t feel good, just press the ‘call’ button, alright?”
You nod as you clutch Terry to you, enjoying the soft and smooth material beneath your fingers, sinking into the pillows as Jay turns off the lights, leaving the door ajar in case you needed him. “Night, Jay-Jay, love you…” You mumble already a third of the way to your dreams.
He makes a mental note to shoot Will a text and just keep him updated, Jay gives you one last adoring glance before heading back to his own room.

lost and found chapter 8/8
Summary: When a case leads to a string of misunderstandings that accumulate into Mouse turning up missing, it’s up to the Intelligence Unit and the rest of the 21st District to get him back. But they’re up against a ransom they have no way of paying, the only people who could help being uncooperative, and a ticking clock.
Warnings: references to kidnapping, implied ptsd
Words: 70,337
Mouse + team with emphasis on Mouse + Kim + Trudy (affectionately “the Platt fam”), some mentions of one-sided Moustead pining, background OCs
Sneak Peek:
Mouse fiddled with the new device in his hands, waiting for the screen to light up. The cab of the truck was lit with the setting sun, at just the right angle that he had to squint to keep from being blinded by it. Between the warmth of the air from the dash, the brightness from beyond the windows, and the jacket he put on any time he left the apartment, the only reason he knew it was November was because of where they were headed.
"I'll pay you back as soon as I start getting regular paychecks again, I swear. You really didn't have to buy me a new phone..."
The truck slowed to a stop at an intersection, and he looked up from the phone with a small frown. It was a longer than necessary pause, but the street they were on was quiet, and there was no one directly behind them to care. Residential streets were good for something, it seemed. "I mean... I know I didn't have to, but it's not like you can function without a phone for however long it's tied up in evidence. Look at the society we live in. And you're not going to be staying with me anymore, and everyone's going to want to be able to contact you outside of working hours."
"My working hours don't even start again until Monday."

Having a doctor and a cop as a brother usually meant they weren't around all of the time. You didn't really mind, they loved their jobs and you loved them. However it did mean that when you needed them they couldn't always make it.
Your day at school had gone about as well as you expected that morning, absolutely terribly. Every period it was like the workload grew and your energy diminished. When you finally got home you abandoned your bag in the entryway and headed straight for your bed. Lately it had felt as if every day was harder than the last, getting up in the morning had become near intolerable. You couldn't go to your brothers, they were busy with their own things and the last thing they needed was their little sister demanding attention.
You pulled back your duvet, revealing the tangle of blankets and sheets underneath that you hadn't tidied that morning. Jay was strict on keeping every part of the apartment orderly and tidy, which meant making your bed every time you got up. Today you had just pulled up the duvet and made it look tidy to save the effort. You climbed under the covers, pulling the blankets up to your chin and trying to hold back the wave of emotions that threatened to crash into you like a tsunami. The weight of the day started to pull on you more, drawing you into a drowsy state. Just as you closed your eyes to sleep your phone buzzed.
Detective Chuckles
'Hey kid, won't be home til late. Don't wait up.'
You didn't bother replying, stuffing your phone under your pillow and closing your eyes again. Maybe the world wouldn't be so daunting if you just took a nap.
When you woke up the sky outside your window was dark, the entire apartment was cold and eerily quiet. You fished around for your phone, nearly blinding yourself as you checked the time. 6:43.
You lay there just staring at your phone for a moment, you didn't feel well rested or any better about your situation. You just felt like you had wasted time for nothing. Tears stung your eyes, this was stupid. You had nothing to feel bad about, everything was practically fine. You held your breath as you forced yourself into the bathroom, grabbing a face cloth and soaking it to clean your face of the running mascara and hot tears. You could faintly see yourself in the mirror despite the lack of light. Your face was red and puffy, it was clear you had been crying. You stared down at the basin, trying to calm yourself down but to no avail. You had to get out of here. Being alone felt like the entire world was silent, waiting, waiting for you to do something regrettable.
You tried not to sob as you made your way back to your room, pulling on your shoes and retrieving your phone. You walked through the apartment to Hailey and Jays room, pulling open the drawers until you found one of Jays old hoodies. You slipped it over your head,it was far too long on you, you had to bunch the cuffs up at your wrist to be able to use your hands but you didn't care. You just wanted to wear something comfortable and big. You grabbed the keys from where you chucked them in our bag and made your way out of the apartment.
As you made your way out of the building you contemplated going to the precinct to see Jay, but if he was staying late it meant they hd a big case and they were busy. Instead, you walked to the closest subway entrance and headed towards Med. Going to see Will meant he would try doctor you, but he gave the best hugs and it was exactly what you needed right now. And waiting in the doctors lounge in the busy ED sounded a lot better than lying alone in the dark at home.
When you got off the subway and headed towards Med, it had started raining. Normally you welcomed the rain, but tonight it felt like the world had a personal vendetta against you. You could have sworn the forecast had said it wasn't meant to rain this week. You walked into the ED waiting room and waved half heartedly to Leah at the reception desk. She looked busy but nodded a hello and didn't stop you as you walked through the doors.
The ED was always busy, tonight was no different. When you approached the front desk you waited out of the way for Maggie to spot you.
"Hey, Mini Halstead," She smiled, you could tell she was studying your puffy face. She put down the phone in her hands and ushered you behind the desk, pulling you closer. "What's wrong?"
You had to take a deep breath to stop from crying gain, you shrugged, "Nothing really." You mumbled.
Maggie frowned, "Doesn't look like nothing," She gently wrapped her arm around your shoulders.
You rubbed your eyes with the back of your hands, forcing yourself to take a moment before talking.
"Can you tell Will I'm here when he gets a second?" You finally managed to get out.
Maggie nodded, "Of course," She guided you through the ED and opened the doctors lounge door for you. She told you to wait there while she told Will and that as soon as he had a moment he would come see you.
The doctors lounge was considerably more quiet than the ED just through the door. You sat down on the couch and pulled out your phone, there were no messages from anyone but you made yourself busy by scrolling through it anyway. After about 20 minutes, Will entered the lounge. He had a look of concern written over his face. He knew that you only ever came to the hospital to see him if it was important. You hated hospitals.
"Hey squirt," He walked into the room, taking off his stethoscope and leaving it on the table. You didn't wait for him to say something else, just got to your feet and wrapping your arms around him in a hug. Will immediately hugged you back, rubbing a hand up and down your back soothingly as you cried into his shirt. He didn't say anything, just held you as you cried and soothed you until you were ready to talk.
When you pulled away he gently tucked your hair out of your face, wiping the tears off your cheeks and waiting patiently for you to meet his eyes.
When you did, he smiled softly and asked, "What's the matter, Y/N?"
You took a shaky inhale, "I don't know," you told him, "I just needed a hug from my big brother."
Will looked compassionate, he drew you back into a hug and held you a little tighter. "Is Jay not home?"
"No," You replied, "Him and Hailey are working late."
Will nodded, unwrapping his arms and leading you back to the couch. He sat you down and walked to the fridge, returning with a bottle of water. He cracked off the lid before handing it to you and quietly ordering you to take a drink.
He sighed, rubbing your back and looking concerned.
"Sorry for bothering you," You mumbled, unable to look at him.
"No," Will argued, "You aren't bothering me, okay? I'm happy you came."
You nodded, not really believing what he said.
"Have you eaten?" He asked, starting to merge from worried big brother to worried doctor.
You shook your head, telling him how you got home and fell asleep then came right here.
"Okay," He took a moment to think, "I get off at 8, in about half an hour, can you wait that long? We can grab Pizza and watch a movie or something, yeah?"
You nodded, relaxing back into the couch and making yourself comfortable to wait for him to get off. He leaned over and pressed a kiss to your forehead, before leaving the lounge with a promise he would try get away a little earlier. You couldn't find the energy to return to scrolling through your phone, just staring at the wall and trying to stay awake while you waited for Will. He returned just before 8, grabbing his stuff from his locker and pulling you to his side as you both walked to his car.
"I love you, squirt," He said, smiling at you as you walked, "Anytime you need a hug you can come find me, yeah?"
You smiled, "Yeah. I love you too."

Not Will being more invested in Oliver's than Jay's at first. My ma was in shock. Also can't wait how will and Oliver are up to no good, I mean it's Will Halstead that we're talking about!
Will is a totally indulgent Uncle who let his niblings talk him into doing shit he knows damn well he shouldn't do. This dude would touch the Mona Lisa if it weren't surrounded by bullet proof glass, just to describe the texture of the paint if Oliver (or any other niece or nephew) asked him to.

I hope you enjoy! (:

"Lyla, do you have your stuff packed?" Annette, her social worker, asked her as Lyla put the last of her things in the black trash bag she was given.
"Mhm." Lyla replied softly.
"Okay. Let's go."
Annette grabbed Lyla's bag, leading Lyla out of her room and down the hallway. They walked through the house as the officers arrested her mother, who was screaming obscenities.
"Where are they taking mommy?" Lyla inquired, not wanting her mommy to go away, "I want to go with Mommy!"
Annette crouched down in front of her, making eye contact with the afraid girl, "Sweetheart, it's not safe to stay with Mommy. You and I are going somewhere that's safe for you."
"B-But Mommy. Where is Mommy going to go?"
"Mommy has to go for a while, but you'll be able to see her soon." Annette stood up, gripping the bag in one hand and holding Lyla's on the other, "Come on. There's a car outside." Lyla nodded her head, sucking her thumb as she was led out to the car, unsure of what was going to happen.
That was the day that changed Lyla forever.
