(KICKS IN YOUR DOOR)
You gotta look up the Shred Force Pilot and see what they look away from us. He's so dumb and pathetic 🎸
HELP MEEEEEEE OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM!!!!!! NORDIC BUNNY YOU DAMAGED LITTLE FREAK WHAT IS YOUR DEAL 😭😭😭🤘🔥 omfg okay so i'm gonna give some background after digging for a bit for the uninitiated who will read this...the above clip is of the villain Nordic Bunny from the unreleased 2010s Disney pilot Shred Force!!! it was created by Matt Maiellaro, co-creator of Adult Swim shows like Perfect Hair Forever and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. which you can really feel - it's giving severe Venture Bros. and Kick Buttowski vibes, and it feels like Metalocalypse for kids!!! 🙈💖
the animation is astonishingly gorgeous, especially for a pilot...my brain can't work out how they've done it!! reminds me of the movements from Storm Hawks 🤩 oh, and that marvellous voice work from the iconic Dana Snyder (Gazpacho from Chowder) as Nordic Bunny...and is that Danny Cooksey (Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown) as Hank?! this kicks so much ass i am HERE for it 😭😭😭 and you're so right, we were robbed. everything is so fun in this pilot but the stand-out is that mental design for Nordic Bunny. what is he?!?! a sentient catboy guitar?!?! is he wearing lipstick and underpants on the outside of his...armour? or is that his body? the TAIL?!?! PLEASE!!! and oh my god he's so pathetic and whiny and crazy. i want an entire season of this right now just to see the deranged exploits he gets up to 😂 dude thank you so much for sending this pilot my way - i can see it's popped off severely on Twitter over the last day or so!!! all that lovely fanart 🥰 and the producer/director Matt Danner has been giving a lot of amazing background information on the show!!! who knows, maybe Disney would be willing to give it another shot...👀

What do you think of Scooby Doo?
Nothing much. I liked Zombie Island, I've heard some pretty great things about Mystery Inc and I'll probably check it out at some point, I like parts of the concept enough to enjoy some fan redesigns that come my way, but I've never really been actively interested in Scooby-Doo even when watching it. When I was a kid, I avoided it because I was scared of a show that was supposed to have spooky monsters aplenty in it, and then as I grew up and revisited it, I was just constantly let down by the fact that none of the monsters were real to begin with, I felt ripped off. There were no true spookie boogies and I didn't care much for any of the core characters to stick around for them when they just kinda, always did the same thing and the things they did weren't that funny to begin with.
I get the impression that Scooby-Doo is, to usamericans, comparable to the place El Chavo occupies here, in the sense that watching it might as well be part of growing up in and it was just always there for everyone and so everyone mostly likes it. I think all of the individual characters are fairly allright, none of them particularly grab me but I'm neutral-to-positive-ish on them. Fred might actually be my favorite in terms of comedic value. I mean, Hank Venture is one of my favorite characters in anything, and he's very explicitly riffing on Fred's personality and style of dialogue, but even besides that, I'd seen some great jokes squeezed out of Fred and I might check Mystery Inc if nothing else because I learned they made Fred canonically autistic.
Nowadays I do appreciate more that the series occasionally makes a point of sticking to it's guns as a theme, the real monster always being some rotten old businessman pulling a scam because that's the real monster behind most of everything and that's the kind of bad guy the gang is best suited to oppose. Everything always seems scary and unfathomable and unbeatable this time but it always comes down to real estate scams and greed and shitty old men who think they can get away with anything and how pathetic they become when unmasked, by a lovable gang of counter-culture hippie detectives. There's enough meat in that set-up.
In practice I tend to tune out hardcore out of things Scooby-Doo because they're so frequently the same and they repeat their gags so frequently but, I kinda get it. I get why, besides the huge franchise aspect, it's a thing worth coming back to and appealing for artists to take a stab at doing their own version, it is one of the most iconic comedy troupes in pop culture after all. It's like Godzilla or Predator, everyone's got a back pocket Scooby Doo pitch or variant on the concept, and the fan-made ones can be a fun thing to look at sometimes.

Here’s a top 10 list of my favorite Gary moments based on absolutely nothing but my personal opinions.
10. Gary’s haircut
Tumblr media
Move over Zuko. Gary’s character development hasn’t finished yet. I feel like this signified a whole new chapter for him that we were supposed to see in season 8, but now will hopefully get to see in the movie. Also he looks so good with his little slut strands.
9. Grippy socks Gary
Tumblr media
Gary helping Hank and Dermott was cute. That’s it. It was so damn cute. It was the trio I didn’t know I needed until it happened. Gary was creeping around the compound looking for an adventure, and unlike Al who got roped into Hank’s nonsense, Gary encouraged it. He provided the intel, made the plan, and probably drove them to the bank. Gary crafting was adorable and he looks so good in scrubs. This is an underrated Gary episode.
I also found it interesting that he continued to call himself Viceroy after cutting ties with the Monarch. I guess following a man dressed as a butterfly since in middle school does things to the developing adolescent brain. Gary was still seeing butterflies, literally (although to be fair, those ink blots do look like butterflies).
8. Hero with a number
Tumblr media
The original Captain Sunshine has Gary pegged. I don’t know if I would go so far to call him a hero”, but he is one of the most genuine characters on the show and the people around him respond to that. He made an impression on Shore Leave that later made way for him to join S.P.H.I.N.X. After his iconic fight with Brock, Brock didn’t walk away. He sat down next to him and waited at least long enough to light up a smoke until Gary woke up. Then they worked together to defeat a common enemy. Gary must’ve made a good enough impression on Hank so that he could later appeal to Enrico Matassa to save the Monarch from being shot in season 7. And after robbing Hatred blind for years, Hatred ended up bonding with Gary. Even if it was just for a moment. He’s the nice guy Dean wishes he was. Side note - Gary in only a loincloth and mask keeps me up at night. Why doesn’t this man have more bitches? How has RUSTY seen more action than Gary. I’ll volunteer guys don’t worry I’m on it.
7. Suiting up
Tumblr media
Please see my meow meow edit.
But seriously how does Gary just know everything? He knew about Enzo’s, he knew about Teddy at Dunwitch, he made it his job to know what’s good and he’s good at it. What’s more impressive than his physical glow up is how loyal and competent he’s become. He’s a guy that will it handle it. How? He’ll just handle it don’t worry about it.
6. Kano
Tumblr media
Amazing. Phenomenal. A masterpiece. Gary as Kano was setting boundaries. He was addressing his trauma. He was competent and cool and he looked so damn good. And most importantly, IT WAS HIS IDEA! The Monarch didn’t want to dress up as his dead dad. Monarch wanted to do the same old “I’ll get you Dr. Venture” schtick. Gary came up with the idea to be bad guys dressed as good guys so they can kill bad guys so they can arch a good guy. Are you following along? Because Gary sure is.
5. S.P.H.I.N.X
Tumblr media
God I wanted this to work out for him. This phase highlighted Gary’s main motivation. It’s not to be a hero or a villain, he just wants to be a part of something. His conversation with Hatred at the end of season 5 touches on that. When he was 1/2 of a nameless duo that was good enough for him. Being a leader after 24 died didn’t seem to satisfy him. He pursued a relationship with Dr. Mrs. but was rejected. He tried to follow Brock to the OSI but wasn’t accepted. He tried rebuilding a new team but was betrayed. I don’t know if he knew going back to the Monarch was the right choice, but it ended up being what he needed. The Monarch needed a new number 2 and Gary needed a new best friend. This all led up to his speech in his last scene during the last episode of season 7, which makes me appreciate this arc even more.
4. Gary breaks the 4th wall
Tumblr media
21 and 24 aren’t “invulnerable” despite what the Monarch thought. There are many instances in the show that shows exactly how these two idiots survived. They know the game. Gary reads the comics and watches the movies and plays the video games. And unlike Henchman 1, he can see a cliché coming. He’s a henchman and he knows exactly what that means, and it’s not worth dying for. He’s not the main character, he knows the good guys always win, so he hauls his ass out of whatever situation he’s in and hides so he can live another day. He can practically see the plot unfolding before him. He was competent long before his transformation whether he wanted to admit it or not. That’s why he didn’t buckle his seatbelt.
3. Gary climbs the Rocky Steps
Tumblr media
I think we all agree that Gary’s transformation was one of the best developments in the show. He loved and he lost. Then he took a hard look in the mirror and decided to change. Season 4 Gary was motivated by grief. But what I love about him is that it didn’t turn him into a mean, cruel, jaded guy. He got dieseled and went back to the cocoon to make it a better place for himself and for all the other henchman. This was the ultimate taking of responsibility. Something we hadn’t seen in most of the other characters at the time.
2. Gary drives Dr. Girlfriend back to the cocoon.
Tumblr media
I know what you’re thinking. Why did op put this random ass scene in the top 3? Because this is when Gary became my favorite character. I don’t care that he fought Brock (I still think it was awesome). I don’t care that he became General 21. When he was babbling about spin art to someone who could not care less, but he was just exited and thought it was cool, and I know he thought going from talking about their failed attempt to paint the car to spin art made sense in his head. It made sense to me. I remember being a kid and seeing this scene and realizing that whoever made this cartoon really understood me. That’s why he was so distraught when 24 sided with Killinger and devastated when he died. When you’re like that, it feels like nobody understands you and everybody thinks you’re weird. It took me forever to realize that a lot of people react similarly to Dr. Girlfriend, annoyed. So you learn to turn that side of you off. Gary didn’t have to do that because he had 24. And even though he had his glow up, that side of him remained intact. It’s one of the best aspects of his character.
Also because I would play with my Cra-Z-Art spin art toy for hours it’s such a strange specific memory that this scene unlocked for me.
And finally….
1. You already know
Tumblr media
Gary in sweatpants sent me through a second puberty. That’s it.
There are so many other moments that deserve to be in my top 10. Gary’s fight with Brock, Gary suiting up after the Monarch’s jail break, that moment at 15 where he just decided to stay with a guy that kidnapped him and work for him for the rest of his life. I’m not exaggerating when I say that I think Gary has one of the best written character arcs ever. I hope we get to see more of him one day. Everyone please support the movie when it comes out.

International Country Music Day
International Country Music Day, on September 17, is a day of festivals, concerts, dances, and all kinds of other events that celebrate country music, to honor this distinctly American genre. Today is about the music. It’s popular to joke about country songs being all about losing your dog, your truck, your job, and your girlfriend, but in reality, the breadth and depth of the genre offer something for everyone, from Williams’ ‘Hey Good Lookin’,’ to New Country songs like Toby Keith’s ‘Red Solo Cup.’ On International Country Music Day, dip into the wellspring and take a sip.
History of INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC DAY
Though International Country Music Day has only been a worldwide phenomenon since 2003, country music itself evolved during the 1920s in the U.S. The music form is the result of a mix of Delta blues, Appalachian folk, Cajun music, Creole Zydeco, and others. Today, people often think of the genre as “Old Country,” which has been wildly popular since the 1950s.
Artists during this golden period such as Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and of course Hank Williams, gave fans unforgettable stories and glimpses into the struggles of a hardscrabble life. Speaking of Hank Williams, the day chosen for this holiday, September 17, is Williams’ birthday. It’s easy to guess the country music icon left a wealth of quality country songs as his legacy, such as ‘Cold Cold Heart’ and ‘Lost Highway.’
As a matter of fact, all 35 of the singles Williams recorded made the top ten on the Billboard Country & Western Bestsellers chart, with 11 of them reaching the number one spot. Mention the phrase country music, and don’t be surprised if the name Hank Williams is in the first sentence of the response. We believe he’d be honored at the association of his birth date with International Country Music Day.
New country, on the other hand, is a subgenre represented by a similarly talented pool of singers and songwriters, including Dierks Bentley, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, and many more, with a younger generation of country musicians taking up the mantle more and more as time goes by. Country music shows no signs of slowing down or going away, so take International Country Music Day as a chance to discover why so many people around the world love country music.
INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC DAY timeline
1923
Birth of a legend
Hank Williams is born, eventually to personify country music for millions of fans.
1963
Can you name three other songs by him?
Johnny Cash records “Ring of Fire,” capturing the attention of a huge number of radio listeners who may not have ventured into the world of country music.
2003
Synchronicity
The first official International Country Music Day is kicked off, coordinating hundreds of concerts and festivals worldwide to occur on the same day, September 17.
2017
Hard to knockdown
Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road” spends 34 weeks at number one on the country charts.
INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC DAY FAQs
Is country music popular outside the US?
While the bulk of country listening takes place in the U.S., there has been a 21% increase in the share of country music streaming outside America since 2015.
What does country music represent?
Country music is defined as “a style and genre of largely string-accompanied American popular music having roots in the folk music of the Southeast and cowboy music of the West, usually vocalized, generally simple in form and harmony, and typified by romantic or melancholy ballads accompanied by acoustic or electric.
Outside the States, where is country music the most popular?
Perhaps partly because of the shared language, the U.K, Australia, and Canada boast the largest numbers of faithful country music fans outside the U.S.
INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC DAY Activities
Attend a concert or festival: After 2020’s pandemic, you’ll once again be able to join the crowd at a country music performance, have an adult beverage, and give line dancing a shot. If you want to get to the heart of country music and really experience it first-hand, a trip to Nashville, Tennessee — considered the epicenter of country music — wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Pick up a musical instrument: There are many to choose from other than the usual guitar. Decide to learn a new skill and try out the fiddle, the dobro, the steel guitar, the banjo, the harmonica — the list goes on. There’s no better way to show you love country music than to play some yourself.
Listen at homeIf you’re like us, the accessibility of all types of music at a click is one of our favorite reasons to love the internet. On International Country Music Day, go on a surfing journey and listen to the old country standards and the new country hits. If you’re normally a listener of “everything except country,” make an exception. We’ll bet you do find something you like.
5 Amazing Facts About Johnny Cash
Put it on “shuffle”: Asked what albums he’d have with him if stranded on a desert island, Cash listed a roster that includes Emmylou Harris, Beethoven, and Bob Dylan.
Lucky seven?: Despite having been arrested a total of seven times — some of them on drug charges — Cash only ever spent one night behind bars.
An apt alias: Before reaching his fame, Cash only ever went by the first name “J.R.” with the initials remaining ambiguous in terms of what they stood for, and only adopted the name “John” when an Air Force recruiter would not accept initials for a first name.
“You may now kiss …”: In the 1970s, Cash spent two years studying divinity and became an ordained minister in time to preside over his daughter’s marriage.
Not just a songwriter: In 1986, Cash published a novel called “Man In White,” a fictional account of a period in the life of the apostle Paul.
Why We Love INTERNATIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC DAY
Lots of country songs are fun and funny: Stories are indeed at the heart of country songs, but not all of them are about heartbreak. Take a look at the song “Ticks” by Brad Paisley. “I’d like to see you out in the moonlight / I’d like to kiss you way back in the sticks / I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers / And I’d like to check you for ticks.” And that’s just one example. Listened to with an open mind, country music can often make you smile.
There’s nothing like a live concert: You can be the owner of an artist’s entire discography and have a dozen songs memorized to sing along with, but to truly experience a country musician’s personality and heart, at least one live concert is de rigueur. We love to feel that electric charge in the air!
It’s truly American: The U.S. may have the right to claim that rock and roll originated within its borders, but country & western, also quintessentially American, predates rock by some twenty years. To celebrate country music is to celebrate American history.

Marvel's Multiversal Marvel: The Resurrection of the Original X-Men
The X-Men, beloved icons of Marvel's mutant universe, are turning 60 this year. And to celebrate this historic milestone, Marvel has a special treat for Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Ice Man fans. In a twist that only the Marvel Multiverse can offer, the original X-Men return triumphantly, but with a thrilling twist – only one will remain in the present.
Marvel has never been shy about pushing the boundaries of storytelling, and their latest venture into the X-Men's rich history is no exception. Writer Christos Gage and artist Greg Land are teaming up to bring us "The Original X-Men," a one-shot comic that promises to reignite the sparks of nostalgia while introducing a fresh and exhilarating multiversal adventure.
The premise is as mind-bending as it gets. The original X-Men, including Iceman, Cyclops, Angel, Beast (in his pre-fur, pre-war crimes days), and Jean Grey (aka Marvel Girl), are plucked from their 1960s timeline by the enigmatic Phoenix Force. This cosmic entity, known for its immense power and capricious nature, has a new mission in mind: to restore the memories that these young mutants lost when they were sent back to their own time after their escapades alongside their future selves in Brian Michael Bendis' "All-New X-Men" series in 2012.
But that's not all. "The Original X-Men" is a prelude to an upcoming ongoing X-Men title slated for release in 2024. This new series will explore the consequences of the Phoenix Force's actions, and one of the original five X-Men will find themselves "trapped" in the modern Marvel world while the rest are sent back to their home timeline.
Intriguingly, this comic will delve into the clash between youth and experience, idealism and pragmatism. As Christos Gage puts it, "It's about your younger, idealistic self coming into conflict with your older, jaded self who's made compromises and given up dreams to survive and do what they think is best, even if that means making hard choices along the way." It's a theme that will resonate with fans as they witness the original X-Men facing off against their older, more world-weary counterparts.
But the question on every X-Men fan's mind is, who will be the one to remain in the modern Marvel world? Jean Grey seems like a compelling choice, especially given the intriguing developments in her contemporary storyline following the events of the Hellfire Gala. As for Hank McCoy, the younger Beast, he could prove to be a fascinating candidate, given the recent twists in his adult self's character arc. Whichever X-Man stays, it's sure to reshape the dynamics of the X-Men in ways we can only begin to imagine.
As Marvel prepares to release "The Original X-Men" one-shot in December, fans of the Marvel Multiverse and the iconic X-Men have plenty to look forward to. The combination of classic characters, a tantalizing multiversal premise, and the promise of a new ongoing series promises a thrilling adventure that will honor the X-Men's legacy while propelling them into an exciting new era. So mark your calendars, true believers, because this is one X-Men event you won't want to miss.

number 3 on your aloto willow post is not correct. the numbers for both shows (especially a league of their own though) prove it’s not just the “minority groups” watching. the framing of it as niche media in reviews contributes to the perception that they aren’t universally watched, even when they very much are. also to your first point, league isn’t a remake, but more of an extension. the fault there isn’t so much the script and story but the marketing; they should have made it clearer that the two stories are very very different.
If both failed to rank in any of the top streaming show lists and were essentially canceled (Sony saving four episodes was because they dropped the price dramatically) then they weren’t popular. Although if you want to argue the framing of niche media prevents a lot of stories about sapphics from getting an audience, you have to ask yourself what, if anything are the shows offering outside of that community? Too many times these shows proudly thumb their noses at a good part of audiences and then said audiences go “Oh that’s nice”, ignore them and they get canceled when the venture capital goes dry, which is now especially with the failure of Silicon Valley Bank.
As for Point 1, the fact is you could blame the marketing, but at the end of the day, people associate the Rockford Peaches with Tom Hanks as Jimmy and Geena Davis as Dot. “We are all fucking fruit” will NEVER be as iconic as “There’s no crying in baseball!” and “The hard is what makes it great,” just because of the force of the actors. I would actually go so far as to say the movie’s as much Jimmy’s story as it is the girls, and for the more casual viewer looking for a sports comedy/drama in the vein of Major League, Jimmy was that character that drew them in to care about the girls. The series throughout the advertising never promised that same hook and went really hard on the representation angle, which informed people that there was no Jimmy and the show was not for them. Hence my earlier comments about viewers going “Oh that’s nice” and watching the film or Major League again.

Ultra’s Prehistoric Planet Reviews- Episode 1: Coasts
Tumblr media
After so many years of agonizing waiting, we’re finally experiencing a docuseries that’s on the same scale as the original Walking with Dinosaurs, if said scale was exceeded already. Prehistoric Planet has gained so much hype before its release, with people freaking out in excitement like crazy (I should know, I’m one of them). And after watching the first episode on Apple TV + last night (Right as 12 am nonetheless), we can start with this lil’ review series I’d like to call Mr. Ultra’s Prehistoric Planet. While that wasn’t the most creative name for something like this, it’s at least catchy, right? Anyhoo, the main motto of this thing is to review all 5 PHP episodes, give them a good rundown about how good they are, go over each segment and the creatures that feature them, and label this package with my usual mind-numbing nonsense. For our first venture into the Maastrichtian era, bring your sunscreen and surfboards, because we’re gonna experience a swimming T. Rex, mosasaur cleaning stations, a trip to a pterosaur beach party, and even a glowing ammonite orgy! (Yes, that part is in there too, I’ll explain later). It’s now time to begin our journey with the Coasts. This review may contain spoilers for the episode, so don’t read this if you haven’t watched it.
Right off the bat, this episode was a very solid way to start the series. We get an live-action intro with David Attenborough where he talks about the lives of various Creatceous fauna like T. Rex. As usual, David is one of the best possible picks for the role of narrator here. His love and approach to nature, along with his 90+ year long career, makes him an incredible narrator. Not only are all of the models very well-made and accurate, but we also get quite a few new species making their primetime debut to the world of media. Not only is this the first ever appearance of Tuarangisaurus, but also Kaikaifilu (A relative to Tylosaurus, one of the most famous mosasaurs), and FOUR different pterosaur species (Barbaridactylus, Alcione, Tethydraco, and Phosphatodraco). Along with that, we also get scenes where more familiar beasties like Tyrannosaurus and Mosasaurus are depicted doing some new behavior not done in previous documentaries. It really helps this is down to further drive home the fact that these were actual animals, not monsters. The only flaw I can point out is the iconic pose of the T. Rex from the preview not being used. But to be fair, it had its own share of issues, like T.Rex living near the Tethys Sea. Even when it was receding, the Western Interior Seaway was still a thing when Papa Hank was around, so I’m cool with this segment changing. One more piece of info I wanna go over before we start covering the respective segments is how Hans Zimmer killed it in the musical department. Again, this is another legend of media we’re talking about, as the guy has made banger after banger for films like The Lion King, The Prince of Egypt, Rango, and even Muppet Treasure Island! (And no, I’m not making this up, his music actually appeared in a Muppet movie!). This man has a whole legacy behind his work, and I’m happy that PHP is now one of them.
Tumblr media
The first segment of the episode (And of the whole show in general) shows a father Tyrannosaurus and his chicks swimming to an island in search of food. While good ol’ Papa Hank has no trouble swimming (As with almost all amniotes), trouble shows up a minute later in the form of a hungry Mosasaurus. While the massive father is safe, even within the giant sea lizard’s own turf, his chicks aren’t, with even a strangler even getting picked off and eaten by the Mosasaurus, highlighting how brutal nature can be, especially for a youngster. While he’s lost a single chick during his swim, the T. Rex and the rest of his brood manage to get onto the island, where they find the body of a dead protostegid turtle. The father Rex feeds on the carcass, while the chicks scramble to hunt for themselves, often playfully snacking on the baby turtles racing to the sea. And that sounds like a fun family activity (Terrorize and eat baby turtles while your father devours the corpse of one of their parents), well, at least to them.
Tumblr media
We cut away from Hank and his family to focus on the pterosaurs of North Africa. Not only do we get our first look at Barbaridactylus (A creature that’ll be getting more screentime in the next episode), but also 3 other species; Tethydraco (A little-known relative to Pteranodon), Phosphatodraco (The first azdarchid to show up in this show), and the focus of this particular segment; Alcione. The chicks are left on a steep, rocky cliff by their parents, with many of the chicks having to fly over to the mainland for the first time. As many of you can expect, a majority of the chicks don’t make it, with both Barbaridactylus and Phosphatodraco gobbling them up on the air and ground respectively. While a few do eventually make it to the safety of the forest, that’s one helluva way to start off your life; go through a gauntlet as you jump off of a cliff while trying not to drown and get eaten by someone else.
Tumblr media
Now cutting to the waters of New Zealand, we come face to face with a mother Tuarangisaurus and her calf. These relatives to the famous Elasmosaurus are the first creatures in the show to get more than 1 segment, with both of their segments in this very episode being covered in this part. In part 1, the mother and her calf (Along with many more of their kind) briefly visit a bay to swallow some gastroliths, while the mother sneaks off to get laid by one of the males. Imagine this from the calf’s perspective; You’re swimming around, looking for a few rocks to swallow to aid in your digestion and weighing you down, before you catch your mom doing the dirty with someone you never met.
Part 2 then shows the later-pregnant female struggling to keep up with the others, making her a clear target for a predatory Kaikaifilu. In order to save his mom from being killed and munched on, the older calf (And eventually the others) harass the mosasaur, biting and ramming into him. The plan works, and the Kaikaifilu swims off as the mother Tuarangisaurus gives birth.
Tumblr media
Speaking of mosasaurs, we then cut to what’s possibility my favorite scene in the episode (And one of my favorite scenes in the show already); A Mosasaurus cleaning station. We all know how much of a powerful predator Mosasaurus is, Jurassic World’s kaijuequse Mosasaurus is proof of that. But, to see this absolute leviathan of the Maastrichtian depths getting all scrubbed up at a cleaning station is what dreams are made of. Unfortunately for the old male, a rival suddenly pops up and fights him for control of his territory. The resulting fight showcases the fierce power of these sea monsters, even moreso than the fight between the two Tylosaurus in Nat Geo’s Sea Monsters. At the end, our male wins and gets to keep his reef. Good for him, he honestly deserves his stretch of coral reef, along with the entourage of pycnodont fish and shrimp that help clean him. It’s a win-win for everyone! Well...except for the younger rival. He ain’t getting access to a free spa anytime soon.
Tumblr media
And to end this review, 3 words; Discolight. Ammonite. Orgy. Yeah, I said that I’d get to this part, but considering how we already covered the second half of the Tuarangisaurus’ segment (Which was the last part of the episode), we’re ending this review with the ammonites, who take sex so seriously, it kills them. Off of the coast of North America, during a crescent moon, massive shoals of Scaphtid ammonites rise from the abyss to, ya guess it, bang each other like crazy! To do this, they wave their bioluminescent tentacles at each other, with them having to synchronize their glowing patterns to get the process right. Right after they all mated, the ammonites then crock. All of them. This is similar to how cephalopods alive today crock after making babies of their own. Also, gotta hand it to the team for adding in practical models. The use of dead ammonite props washing ashore makes this scene all the more real!
1 episode down, 4 more to go. Given how long this blasted thing was, this is certainly gonna take a while. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s review of Deserts! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta get all of this water out of my head.

Best Of 2023: These Three Games Used Their Platform To Educate And Entertain
At first look, the trio of MLB The Present 23, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Murderer's Creed Mirage share little or no in widespread. Certain, all three video games launched in 2023, and each Spider-Man 2 and Murderer's Creed Mirage function dense open worlds, however apart from what you would possibly name broad similarities, they're virtually completely disparate from each other. That's, apart from one shocking commonality: All of them taught me one thing new in regards to the previous. From a packed ballpark in Twenties Kansas to the comic-book streets of New York Metropolis and a bustling ninth-century Baghdad, every recreation adopts a special strategy towards educating its gamers on particular folks, moments, and locations from human historical past. Once I look again on 2023--a 12 months stacked with distinctive video games--this unlikely trio of AAA video games stands out due to the assorted methods by which they use the artwork type to shine a lightweight on underrepresented cultures and the pivotal impression that they had on our history--doing so in a method solely an interactive medium like video video games can.In MLB The Present 23, this takes the form of a brand new mode known as Storylines. Many sports activities video games have ventured into the previous earlier than, however none have carried out so in such a lovingly crafted method as San Diego Studio's ode to the Negro Leagues. Storylines is basically a sequence of playable documentaries, with each combining archival footage, eye-catching hand-drawn artwork, and the spellbinding narration of Bob Kendrick--president of the Negro League Baseball Museum--to discover the lives and careers of eight legendary baseball gamers from an period earlier than Jackie Robinson broke the colour barrier. It is inconceivable to be a fan of baseball with out understanding the story of Robinson and his iconic 42, however MLB The Present 23 taught me about different unbelievable gamers I knew subsequent to nothing about, together with Satchel Web page, Hilton Smith, and Hank Thompson.
Tumblr media
Negro Leagues Baseball Museum president Bob Kendrick is our information to the previous.Every of the eight gamers is given a one- to two-hour documentary crammed with reverence, placing consideration to element, and the gravitas wanted to inform the enthralling story of individuals triumphing within the face of prejudice and hate. These documentaries are as a lot about sports activities historical past as they're about American historical past and the civil rights motion, giving these gamers the long-overdue recognition they deserve after being ignored or fully forgotten as a result of segregation. Storylines would not simply provide you with a greater understanding of who these folks have been both; it permits you to expertise why somebody like Satchel Web page was so transcendent. All through every storyline, you are given the possibility to step onto the diamond and recreate notable moments from all through every participant's profession. The standout second happens throughout certainly one of Satchel Web page's episodes, as Bob Kendrick weaves a story about an occasion the place Satchel's Kansas Metropolis Monarchs have been enjoying towards a semi-pro all-white crew. After recording a success off the flamethrowing righty of their first at-bat, the all-white crew began directing racial epithets at Satchel amidst claims that he additionally wasn't superb. In response, Satchel known as his whole crew in and made them sit across the mound to observe him pitch as an alternative of fielding their positions. Such was his confidence that he dared the opposite crew to get one other hit, and so they merely couldn't--in truth, he struck out the facet. Attending to recreate this second is in contrast to anything within the recreation, and its uniqueness speaks to Satchel Web page's huge persona.Spider-Man 2, then again, takes a special strategy to its historic veneration. Partway via the blockbuster sequel, protagonist Miles Morales is given a job by his mother, Rio, to assist the curator of the Harlem Cultural Museum. She's been locked out of the constructing when a donor arrives to pledge important funds to maintain it open. What initially looks as if a fairly low-stakes task--doing nothing greater than lending the sport a style of that pleasant neighborhood Spider-Man--quickly transforms right into a questline that carries rather more weight. Because it seems, the explanation the curator was locked out of the museum is as a result of it was being raided by a gang of thugs who made off with a powerful assortment of jazz memorabilia. A sequence of missions comply with as Miles makes an attempt to recuperate the stolen devices. The stakes by no means enhance past this; it is a questline that grounds the remainder of the sport and underlines how a lot Spider-Man means to town of New York. Miles can be invested as a result of he cares about his group, even when supervillains and world-ending occasions aren't threatening it.
Tumblr media
Spider-Man 2After recovering the entire devices, the end result of this questline sees the Harlem Cultural Museum and its jazz exhibit totally restored. You are then free to discover the area and work together with every show to be taught in regards to the devices and the individuals who performed them. I found saxophonist Charlie Parker, who helped develop the Bebop model of jazz, and pianist Hazel Scott, a virtuoso who acquired a scholarship to check at Julliard when she was solely eight years outdated and who ultimately went on to grow to be the primary Black girl in America to have her personal TV present.I additionally realized about drummer Clyde Stubblefield, whose impressed drum patterns laid the muse for each funk and far of hip-hop, and the unbelievable story of Josephine Baker, an secret agent for the French Resistance in World Battle II and the primary Black girl to star in a significant movement image. You'll be able to even learn The Weary Blues, a poem by author Langston Hughes, who was vastly influential through the Harlem Renaissance. Exploring this museum might solely be a minuscule a part of a a lot bigger recreation, but it surely resonates. I felt a higher connection to Miles, the place he is come from, and what he is preventing for, however not solely that. Insomniac Video games has created an endearing tribute to Black artwork of the early twentieth century, emphasizing how necessary it's to protect that historical past for future generations. The identical could be mentioned of Murderer's Creed Mirage and its concentrate on Center Japanese historical past. The newest recreation in Ubisoft's long-running sequence is ready through the Islamic Golden Age of Baghdad when the Abbasid Caliphate dominated town. This a part of the world, particularly in historic phrases, isn't represented in fashionable tradition until it is a backdrop for contemporary warfare, recurrently dehumanizing Muslim and Arab folks within the course of. For many Westerners, the capital of Iraq is related to the Battle on Terror, however with Mirage, Ubisoft is taking a small step to rectify this by delving into the medieval metropolis's complicated previous. As protagonist Basim, you are in a position to uncover 66 historic websites by exploring Baghdad, with each unlocking an article pertaining to varied features of town, from the each day lifetime of its residents to the position of the federal government and its burgeoning artwork scene. It is an eye-opening look again at a metropolis that influenced the world, but one which so many know so little about.
Tumblr media
Ninth-century BaghdadBy discovering varied historic websites, I rapidly realized about how Baghdad was as soon as on the very coronary heart of the Silk Highway. It was a thriving metropolis the place folks from China to Spain would collect on its streets, making it one of the crucial well-known cities on the planet on the time. Baghdad was the middle of all the things, dwelling to at least one million folks and bursting with life, creativity, scientific discoveries, and multicultural variety. In fact, studying in regards to the metropolis is not unique to Murderer's Creed Mirage, however with the ability to discover the busy market or grandiose palace you simply realized about is. By Ubisoft's personal admission, its recreation of the Metropolis of Peace is not 100% correct, however there isn't any method it may very well be. Ninth-century Baghdad was virtually fully destroyed by the Mongols within the thirteenth century, so Ubisoft used references from archeology and descriptions of town from individuals who visited it to rebuild Baghdad's winding facet streets, mosques, and opulent gardens as precisely as doable. That is a part of what makes exploring Iraq's capital and studying about its historical past so fulfilling; none of its landmarks, houses, or folks exist anymore, but Murderer's Creed Mirage has opened an interesting window into the previous. It is a related story for each MLB The Present 23 and Spider-Man 2. All three video games supply a charming glimpse again via historical past, specializing in underrepresented teams through the use of the medium to not solely entertain, however educate as nicely. No matter their different deserves as video video games are, it is this facet that may follow me after I assume again on 2023. Source link Read the full article

Rejected Bad: Disco
The following is a rejected script from an early season of Breaking Bad.
INT. ROLLER DISCO - NIGHT
The dance floor is packed with flashing lights, vibrant music, and energetic skaters. WALTER,, GUS, and HANK sit at a table, watching people skate around in roller disco elegance.
Walter unsuccessfully tries to keep up with the rhythm, flailing his arms awkwardly. Hank isn't faring any better, his coordination failing him on the slippery floor.
Gus calmly observes, sipping on a drink.
WALTER:  (looking embarrassed)  You know, I never thought roller skating could be this difficult.
HANK:  (agrees)  Yeah, it's a lot harder than it looks. I don't know how those kids do it.
Gus, still remaining composed, chuckles softly.
GUS:  (chuckles)  Gentlemen, life's challenges are much like raising chickens. You need precision, balance, and rhythm to keep them in line.
Walter and Hank exchange confused glances.
WALTER:  (sceptical)  Chickens, Gus? What do they have to do with this?
GUS:  (smiling)  Oh, Walter, watch and learn. Sometimes, actions speak louder than words.
Gus stands up gracefully and walks to the centre of the dance floor.
ONLOOKERS whisper amongst themselves, noticing Gus' presence.
The disco music stops and is replaced by a lively, funky tune.
The rooms fall silent as all eyes focus on Gus.
Gus starts moving with incredible precision, incorporating mesmerising disco dance moves into his routine, reminiscent of the iconic "Chicken Dance."
The crowd erupts into appreciative applause as Gus glides and twirls effortlessly, commanding the floor.
Suddenly, an EMPLOYEE approaches Gus, holding a microphone.
EMPLOYEE:  (into the microphone)  Ladies and gentlemen, we have witnessed a rare display of disco chicken magic tonight! Let's give it up for the king of the floor, Gus Fring!
The crowd cheerfully claps and whistles as the EMPLOYEE presents Gus with a trophy labelled "Disco Chicken Master."
Gus accepts the award with a humble nod and returns to the table, where Walter and Hank sit dumbfounded.
Walter, now thoroughly impressed, applauds loudly.
WALTER:  (amazed)  Gus, I'll admit, that was incredible! How did you even know how to do all that?
GUS:  (secretive)  Sometimes, Walter, one must venture outside their comfort zone to understand the depths of their capabilities. And, to think like a chicken.
Hank, still in awe, chimes in.
HANK:  Well, Gus, I think we've learned two things today. One, never underestimate the power of the dance floor, and two, you're a damn disco chicken prodigy!
They all laugh heartily, basking in the unexpected joy of their roller disco adventure.
FADE OUT.
