He had been right, the other day: Marinette did make the prettiest witch.

“Trick or treat!” she greeted as he entered the bakery, waving from over her cauldron.  A row of bright, shiny green apples, all dipped expertly in glossy caramel, was arranged on the counter beside her.  The hand that wasn’t waving was stirring the next in her cauldron.  He laughed as he walked over, removing his helmet.

“Isn’t that my line?” he asked, bending down to kiss her cheek.  She hummed, placing the apple next to the others setting behind the finished ones.

“Maybe I want the treat,” she said, winking at him as she reached for another apple.  He caught her hand and laced their finger together, squeezing as he pulled her away from the cauldron.

“I think you’re supposed to say double, double toil and trouble?” he asked, smiling as he leaned in.  Her hat tipped back, and he stopped just shy of pressing his forehead to hers to keep it from falling off.  “Fire burn and cauldron bubble?”

“That’s Juleka’s line, not mine,” she giggled.  “For a charm of powerful trouble, like a hell-broth boil and bubble.”

He laughed, knocking her hat off anyway as he leaned on her.

“You should have heard her when Bustier asked her to read that part,” Marinette giggled.  “She got so into it.  She was terrifying.”

“Of course she was,” Luka snickered.  “She was probably imagining boiling my head in it.”

“Never,” Marinette said, reaching up to cup his face and pull him in for a kiss.  “I can’t get my treats if I let her boil your head, silly.”

“Thank God for that,” he chuckled, kissing her again.  “Happy Halloween, Marinette.”

“Happy Halloween, Luka.”
