expanding on smth i said earlier so as not to dump A Essay in someone's reblogs:
i think it's a little silly to say that roland is morally on par with ayin.
imo even if ayin's and roland's body counts were comparable (which... they're not, ayin is directly responsible for a war and indirectly responsible for so much capitalist hellscape suffering), their moral codes are just wildly different
ayin desecrated carmen's still-living body and tormented angela for a million years, on top of deliberately putting the sephirot through their own personal hells so he could swoop in and save the day (once again at angela's expense)
roland is murderously horrified at the desecration of his wife's corpse, and when presented with the opportunity to let olivier subject angela to another eternity of torment, he shuts that shit down Immediately. he threatens to make her suffer later, but even at his worst he can't go through with it.
he is just similar enough to ayin to understand perfectly where ayin was coming from... and at the same time different enough to condemn him. if you pay close attention to his interactions with binah and hokma, as well as the background text of chesed's realization, you'll see what i mean. i think ayin was his primary target. unfortunately for everyone involved, though, ayin is dead. sorry roland, you were a little late to the core meltdown party*, and now you're lashing out at the wrong person entirely.
i mean, the distortion continues to propagate after angela sets the light free — suggesting it wasn't actually her fault in the first place. at this point you could blame carmen — and the reddit fandom looooves to blame carmen, in kind of a disturbing way — but imo ultimately it was ayin's torment of carmen that made the distortion what it was. he traumatized her so bad it rendered her unable to actually therapize anybody, instead pushing them into giving in to their trauma and distorting.
this is not to say that roland is blameless. his rampage was what it was, and his deeply flawed coping mechanisms were roughly half of why the library did so much damage to the city.
but imo, part of the point of him is that he is not NEARLY as destructive as ayin turned out to be. like, not even the same order of magnitude.
moreover, he is still open to the opinions of others, albeit resistant due to trauma and sunk cost. he engages with the patrons as an equal. he is nowhere near vanishing down the narcissist rabbit hole the way ayin did. he is open to redemption, and that is why he has a redemption arc and ayin doesn't.
*his distortion is obviously old L corp's singularity, but i feel like the design similarities to the sephirot core meltdowns are significant. it's all Grody Black Vines man

Dp x Dc wherein learning magic is similar to learning how to play music.
So basically, the creation of a summoning spell is like a full composition/song made of smaller components or ‘notes’ for things like gravity shifting, and geolocation, and transportation etc. which is why Magic can be taught and spells can be man-made.
Danny, however, is the equivalent of having Perfect Pitch. He can compose entire songs of spells without really thinking about it due to his royal titles (ambassador/king/high prince) but doesn’t really know how to be specific which lands him in some trouble with Clockwork. His portals are coming along a lot better with the help of Wulf but its critical that Danny learns how to control the range of his magic *something something, for the timestream something* *blah blah according to the will of the ancients blah blah*.
So put on the course to learn Magic, Danny decides to hunt down the House of Mystery and study up by himself. He’s doing community college online, what could a little bit of Magic self study really do to his schedule? This place has literally every magic resource he could need!
Turns out he has a roommate in the House of Mystery- John Constantine does not take well to the fact that half of the spells Danny is creating are causing him issues with the JL. Random shit appearing, random shit disappearing, portals everywhere and don’t get him started on the fucking ICE present on every bloody thing the magic reaches. Not to mention there is no reason a normal human kid should be able to have this much power behind his spells.
John attempts to teach Danny the basics like a little kid gets stickers placed on the keys of a piano. The problem is Danny has the ability to compose entire scores of Magic all on his own, and absolutely abhors the training wheels John is putting on him.
Danny: You’re patronizing me!
John: You deserve to be patronized.
Just like, Danny learning Magic in various ways that you might teach kids to play musical instruments from the various Magic users in the JLD. Causing chaos along the way, found family, the whole nine. Stickers on the instruments for notes, taking away guitar strings that are ‘more advanced’ and replaying Twinkle, Twinkle little star over and over again.
Danny can play the Magic equivalent of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake but cannot play Chopsticks.

Clawing my face off at the meta of the last ep
Impulse and hyper vigilance hooking up so he’s aware of the danger but not too frozen by paranoia to act
Attention standing up against confusion to reprioritize what’s important and lock away unchecked ambition
Pleasure starting to realize that doing the right thing can feel good! But still being tempted by greed
Conscience finally having some power to direct the brain!
(Hopefully culminating in Elias’ realization that each function of the brain can be both rewarding and helpful when implemented in a healthy manner and destructive and isolating when implemented in an unhealthy manner…)
Everything about this season is incredible

I swear, recently I’ve been getting an influx of dumbasses on a Youtube comment I left SEVEN YEARS AGO on the scene from The Last of Us where Joel saves Ellie from the hospital. Saying the same dumb shit over and over:
“Joel isn’t a hero, he’s the villain of this story! He doomed humanity just so he can save one little girl because he’s selfish!”
YOU DIPSHITS.
YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING MORONS.
NO ONE SAID HE’S A HERO. BUT HE’S THE FUCKING PROTAGONIST OF THE STORY.
He is the one we’ve been following since DAY ONE of the FUCKING apocalypse. We have seen every tragedy this man has gone through. We know his struggles with his relationships with other people. YES WE ARE GOING TO SYMPATHIZE WITH HIM MORE THAN SOME FIREFLY RANDOS THAT HAD TO BE RETCONNED IN MULTIPLE WAYS. Fuck those motherfuckers, narratively I care about JOEL. No one ever said what he’s doing was the right thing, but what he’s doing is RIGHT FOR HIS CHARACTER.
I don’t trust the organization that had to A) Be retconned into being blameless because it was a proven fact that there were others like Ellie that they had fucking botched their cure attempts and killed those people. B) Be retconned into the doctor being the dad of a piece of shit.

Thinking about one more thing from the con on Saturday. So I’m not particularly curvy (boo) but I was with some hot curvaceous ladies at the con (🥵) and after each of them got their pics with Joe, they all said similar things. How he looked them up and down (in a good way) said they looked good, looked beautiful etc. and they came out of those shoots absolutely ecstatic that he said that to them as they were convinced he wouldn’t!! He literally made them feel on top of the world.
Side note, he didn’t anything to me about how I looked as I was nervous and it was clear he was respecting boundaries, but what was lacking in words was made up for in eye contact like jeez, man’s stared into my SOUL and was so sincere
ugh, when i say i love him i really fucking mean it

I just watched the the episode Shadowplay. You guys. I fucking love Odo. Are you kidding? He's actually the best. You don't even get it. Look at him.
Like, the lil smile we get to see as the transporter beams him away? Are you kidding me? He's literally the sweetest guy.
I can't with this shit. I just can't. He's the bestest.
