i've seen some people bringing up the parallel of how tim told lucy that they were worth the risk to how tim broke up with her... this is a great parallel don't get me wrong and it is so painful and i feel so sad for lucy

HOWEVER i've also seen people absolutely railing on tim and calling him a coward for leaving her and saying that this is unforgivable. i get being upset with him, i'm not saying that's wrong. but i just want to offer my take:

tim is absolutely broken down. this is the lowest point he's ever reached and it's been building and building since before we even met him. everything that happened in his childhood, in the army, with isabel, the trauma we've seen from the job these last 5-6 seasons. and now this, which has brought everything he's never dealt with to the surface. he truly believes in his bones that lying to lucy was what he had to do to protect her. even when lucy (rightfully) told him to stop, he said he can't because it's who he is. it's all he has right now because if he's going to lie and break the rules and compromise him morals, he is damn sure going to do whatever it takes to protect the people he loves.

he grew up with an abusive father who made him believe that he doesn't deserve to be loved, let alone unconditionally. he had no control in his childhood so he got that control by joining the military, and when he finally had that control?? he screwed up and blames himself for getting his teammates killed. he tried to gain back that control by becoming a police officer/to but never felt like he needed to move up any higher than that and now we know why. he didn't want to be a leader again because he didn't think he deserved it. he was terrified of losing lucy with the UC work and didn't even realize it, because when she's gone, he doesn't know what's going on and can't back her up. he has no control.

and now this? he compromised everything he believes in, as he said, "to save his career" but it's not that simple. if he told the truth, that angela and lucy knew about everything and still helped him, they would still lose everything he tried to protect them from. he can't even look at himself in the mirror right now.

he's not a coward for breaking up with lucy. he's not walking away because they had a fight and he doesn't want to work through it. in fact, she validated everything he did!! she showed him that she still loves him no matter what he did, that she would've done the same thing. but to him, that's even worse because he doesn't believe he deserves unconditional love, so when lucy gives it, he thinks that he's dragging her down because how could anyone love him after this. giving their relationship a shot was worth the risk because she is worth the risk. but him? he's not worth it

it's not cowardly to take yourself out of a relationship that you're not mentally okay to be in.

i feel so bad about it but i just hate the ending. sailing off into the sunset works but it feels like it wasn't earned y'know? and everyone's in a good mood but like, why? izzy just died, and they didn't really end on a big victory, they just kinda escaped. plus it kinda sucks that we never get to see ed and stede talking to each other or the crew about the inn. that could be a good ending for them but as it stands there's basically no build up and it feels kind of random. it kinda feels like i watched the first half of a season and then skipped to the last episode and missed a bunch of stuff

I'm curious about Bad's reaction when him and Bagi spoke about her funeral yesterday. Bad was genuinely interested in the fact that she wanted people to be happy and remember her as a happy person even though she is often sad.

Bad: So you want people to be happy at your funeral, even though you're miserable most of the time? Bagi: Yeah, because I want to see people happy. Bad: Why do you want to see people happy? Bagi: Uh... because... I don't know, it's so horrible to be sad. Bad: Hmm Bagi: I'm already sad. I don't want people to be sad too. Bad: Interesting...

He then made a joke about how you can't spell funeral without 'fun' 😆

But there was just something about the way Bad responded, his in-character actions and his tone of voice... you can tell he (qBad the character) was genuinely curious about her views and would nod and look off as he considered what she was saying. It made me think he was drawing parallels and either identified/agreed with her, found her view genuinely unusual, or it was making him consider his own view on some things. It's hard to tell, but it felt like an interesting moment for qBad even if I can't quite understand exactly what it is he is thinking.

#Add to that the fact this all follows many days of implying he is 'expendable' or going to die #and then straight up saying he would die soon during the same stream even if he was saying it in an ambiguous way #It might be nothing but I just found it an interesting little moment~#badboyhalo #bagi

I appreciate the love for Shoko but all the theories about her somehow resurrecting gojo from death is really setting her up for disappointment

headcanons i have about Craig the scientist :)

as are most of the characters i have headcanons for, Craig is on the autism spectrum. he has a flat effect to his voice and facial expressions, doesn't really get most social cues, doesn't know how to react to others in pain the "right" way, misunderstands metaphors and speaks in quite a direct manner because it makes the most sense to his brain. he's quite a literal thinker. he also tends to hyperfixate so hard on a task that he forgets his basic needs and hygene, and thus has quite an unkempt look underneath that hazmat suit of his (which i will get into later!). Barry often ends up needing to get Craig something to eat because of how long he hyperfixates on something.

Craig sometimes doesn't exactly pay attention to his tone of voice, so sometimes he can say something that, to him, sounds completely normal, but because of his tone, can end up sounding really ominous to other people by accident ("We know who you are, Barry.")

Craig has traumatic cataract in his left eye (or wherever the fuck craig's visor crack is supposed to be in canon lol) from the explosion in 'Level 2' and is half blind in that eye. his eye has a very clouded look as a result of the injury. he's also got a huge scar there too that required some pretty gnarly stitches later, and his skin is almost completely numb around that area.

Craig also never really had the best eyesight before the injury, so he's always wearing these big ol' nerdy glasses underneath his helmet. and yes, they are tacked together with a band-aid lol

Craig is one of the few scientists who is not a clone of Peter Simpkins, the late friend of both Professor Brains and (in my headcanon'd canon) Craig. i like to think that Craig and Simpkins knew each other when they were first recruited by Legitimate Research and was pretty close to both him and Brains, and since Simpkins died, Brains has kind of taken more of a liking towards Craig (mostly out of loneliness and needing someone to help around at the lab, but he has a genuine fondness for him under his demanding and angry exterior).

There's a bit of a fan theory that Craig is the same guy as the scientist in the 'Robot Bird' rock opera, which i like to believe is the case. i mean, he's got the same monotone voice as Craig, it's gotta be him. i hope this does end up becoming canon because i think it'd make for an interesting conflict between Barry and Craig!!

Craig may or may not be related to Lab Lady.

Craig's counterpart in the mirror universe is named Kayla.

Craig is demiromantic and is questioning his sexuality (he thinks he might be bi or pan), though he definitely knows he loves Barry <3

Craig has an unhealthy habit of wiping his embarrassing memories, like, a lot. he wipes memories of awkward accidents in the lab, particularly painful failures, and most importantly, the memories of losing literally all his stuff and his career to Barry, which is why he doesn't immediately recognise him in the shorts. Craig has a lot of trouble recounting stories from the past because of this memory-wiping and felt a sense of emptiness, which getting hit in the head certainly didn't help with, so he tried inventing that apple in the Multiverse Madness event to get some of them back. it was pure dumb luck that Barry didn't end up witnessing what happened to Craig in the 'Robot Bird' opera and both are completely unaware of the disastrous can of worms that could have opened. bro's gonna end up like wallflower blush if he doesn't keep that memory erasing under control

and finally...

under his helmet, Craig has messy dirty-blonde hair, a rounded face that has a few stray facial hairs he forgot to shave, a long scar down the left side of his face, hazel coloured eyes and pale skin. this design is inspired by the designs made by @dexterno-artz and @schnabel53 respectively :D

this is a sketch of my finalised(ish) craig design!!! i've shown earlier versions of this guy in a couple of older posts but i haven't really revised his design much until now. i kinda had the idea of him looking like a stereotypical nerd and then made him messier. i might tone the amount of hair he has down a tiny bit but also i really like the nerdy bird's nest thing he has goin on :) i like to think he literally hasn't brushed his hair in several weeks and it's just become a bird's nest from nights of staying up doing science stuff

how i feel about barry tbh. he's literally so dumb i love him

(also apologies for the photos being kinda blurry and me forgetting to turn off the filter. again. in my defence it looks really nice and orange on my phone)

sometimes i like drawing him saying stuff from the shorts to get a feel of how he'd look when talking and make sure he looks juuuust nerdy enough for me to go "yep that's craig". also his big,g, handns,s,

drew this as a quick side profile sketch to get a general idea of how i want to draw him from this angle. he's talking to barry offscreen and falling in love with him <3

stupid little comic with a stupid little interaction that would definitely happen between these stupid little guys <3 barry being a little asshole every now and then is very entertaining to me. i need to see him antagonising craig and starting an old couple bickering argument with craig, that would heal me i think

i think i'll post more of this design in the future, i really quite like it a lot :)

mmm i'm gonna go a little sideways from the prompt because harry isn't necessarily my fave but i just do want to say i don't think this man is topping. i think the emotional fallout from martinaise has stripped him of his ability to ever top or dom or be in charge in any sexual capacity like ever again. someone tries to get him to top and he gets the thousand yard stare like oh no... i dont top..... not since The Accident..... like already immediately post-amnesia you've got these comments saying sober sex is scary for him, his blood flow is bad from the alcoholism so his dick is operating at a generous 48% capacity, he's got chronic pain + will probably feel that bullet in his thigh forever and ever and this is a perfect storm that equals to This Man Aint Topping. physical and emotional agony if this man even tries. you put this man in a situation where he's expected to top and he says 'i can't... not after everything women have been through...'

there have been many. but i think one that angers me the most is the idea that dora was somehow wrong for leaving harry. i did see once (many months ago) that she should have stayed because of what the breakup did to him and i know for a FACT that person completely missed the point of the last dream on the seafort. that shit was crazy

7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?

i'm very good at maintaining my own separate opinions so there's no character i HATE but [strapping on my bulletproof vest] kim took a back burner in my brain for a while because the sheer volume of genuine sincere unironic 'kim is a good cop and his purpose in life is to be harry's support system' i saw was like. mind numbing. i'm not talking about lighthearted fun with his character i was seeing people genuinely believing that shit and i got so sick of it that kim became a secondary consideration for a while. i do love him his character is super interesting & i'm currently working on an analysis, but i think it was a case of oversaturation for a few months there

24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse

i am lucky to have not seen much but i think one of the things i see start some conflict is that there are 2 equally good and valuable types of Disco Enjoyment: 1) silly goofy fun and 2) full 10th-grade-english-teacher-mode analysis. and people can do both but i personally have deleted several anons who i think didn't realize this fact and therefore took my character analysis posts as personal attacks on the Silly Goofy Fun activities rather than the braindumps they were. most of the rancid shit i HAVE seen has mostly come down to: we are looking at the same thing through different levels of detail and canon-compliancy and are forgetting that Ignoring That Shit is an option

Prisoners’ Hope

Summery: With nothing to do beside waiting for a horrible fate, the prisoners of the Watchers recall happier times. This way, at least someone can share the news with those they love.

Some snippets of moments during Grian’s capture. The first one takes place a good while into it, while the rest are spread throughout the rest of the time.

Warnings for mentions of death, torture, and experimentation as well. Nothing in detail, but they talk about it.

Grian holds his knees to his chest, wings hanging limply behind him. He’s not sure if it will work, but… well, he’s already losing hope, it can’t get much worse from here. If talking about their families helps, then he’ll listen.

“I’m the oldest of my siblings,” Ray begins, moving closer to the bars of his cell. “Our parents weren’t the best, so I was the one who raised them. We… we’re all really close still.” He cracks a grin, “within a few minutes travel close.” It feels hollow.

“I’m really close to my sister too,” Cassie says, “we’re twins.”

“The oldest of my siblings are twins too,” Ray says, his smile seeming a little bit more real. He looks around at the others, “anyone else here related to a twin?”

“Me,” Grian speaks before he can even think it through. He shrinks back when everyone looks at him, “but, um, she doesn’t live around here. It’s been a while since we talked. I regret that now,” Grian adds on, voice just a whisper. He looks away to avoid their gazes.

After a minute Cassie speaks again, “me and Karie, my twin, are as thick as thieves. Cause problems like that too, we drove our parents crazy.” She laughs, it’s not fully hollow, “we’re close knit still. Parents live out of town,” she pauses before continuing, tone quieter, “we talk regularly though.”

Now if that isn’t a stab to his heart… Not that Grian can blame her, it’s his own fault after all.

“Not that I want to bash your topic choices,” Adrian begins, “but all I’m hearing about is blood family.”

“Is that an issue?” Lily asks, tone curious and genuine.

“Nah, I’m just starting to think that I’m the only one here who’s only close family is a partner.”

“Tell us about them then,” Cassie prompts him. Grian can’t help but be curious as well.

“Her name is Anna and we’ve been dating for some years now.” A wistful smile crosses his face, “I was planning on proposing to her before this. Went through so much effort to make sure the ring was hidden, she sniffs out secrets better then a wolf to meat. She probably found it.” His smile falls, “I wish I could have seen her expression when she did.”

“I’m sorry, man,” Ray murmurs.

“I just have to keep hope that I’ll see her again.”

“I feel that,�� Grian speaks, meeting his eyes. “Just hoping I can see my boyfriend at least one more time.”

“Mhm,” Adrian hums, “Anna and I did everything together. We’re only really apart when we’re working. There’s never a dull moment around our place with her around.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah,” he confirms. “She could bring humor and light to any situation as well. Probably even this one honestly, I’m glad she’s not here though.”

“Scar’s the same,” Grian murmurs, letting himself think about happier times, even if it leaves an ache in his chest. “I don’t think I’ve met anyone kinder or with a bigger heart. I don’t know what I’d do without him.”

Adrian chuckles, there’s definitely humor in it now, “I feel the same about Anna, I’d be a mess without her.”

“I wouldn’t say I’m a mess, but I can’t imagine my life without him.”

“They sound wonderful,” Lily murmurs with a light smile. “I’ve had a crush on my best friend for a while now, couldn’t bring myself to say anything though. Guess this is a lesson that I shouldn’t delay doing things. Too bad I learned it too late.”

“Hey, no,” Ray says, a protest, but a gentle one. “We’re going to get out of here. I won’t give up until we do.”*

Erika smiles, “thanks Ray. For putting in the effort to keep things positive. This would be way worse without you.”

“I mean it,” Ray says, “I’m going to do everything I can to get all of us out of here.”

“I don’t know what I’d be able to do,” Grian begins, confidence boosted by Ray’s passion. “But I hate sitting around powerless, so I’ll help any way I can.”

“It’s been a few hours,” Erika whispers, staring down the hall, tense.

“Do you think something has happened to him?” Adrian asks, worry clear.

“A test has never taken this long before,” Grian murmurs, sitting up and fully focusing on where they last saw Ray.

“What if he succeeded?” Cassie whispers, voice cautious, like she’s too afraid to hope.

None of them answer, all tense as they wait, fear and hope clashing with different strengths.

Not much longer two watchers stalk down the hallway, empty handed. Besides a key. They open one door and beckon towards Erika, “come.” She startles, stepping back. Without hesitation, one of them steps inside and grabs her, dragging her out and away.

“Wait!” Adrian calls, “what happened to Ray?”

The other watcher turns to look at them, “he wasn’t strong enough to handle our gifts.” They leave, ignoring the chilled silence they left in their wake.

“Do you think there’s much hope left?” Lily whispers, legs pulled up to her chest with his arms and tail wrapped around them.

“We’re still alive, aren’t we?” Adrian replies, but he doesn’t sound confident.

“Just us three,” Grian says, slowly losing his own confidence. It’s not like he still isn’t trying, but they haven’t made much progress. Not to mention that each ‘gift’ The Watcher’s attempt to give them only saps their energy and strength more. Grian isn’t sure if he’s waiting to be able to use something they give him against them, or for the next one to kill him. He’d rather not die, of course, but sometimes with the pain he feels during…

“At least some of us are, there’s still a chance,” he counters, clearly trying to keep his voice strong.

“You’re just trying to convince yourself, aren’t you?” Lily whispers, eyes focused on him, parts of her Iris turning purple.

“I forgot you could do that,” Adrian whispers, and his facade crumbles. He slumps against the wall, all energy seeming to drain out of him. “I’m just getting weaker over here. I’m already counting down to my death.” He glances over at Grian, “you two are the ones who have a chance of getting out of here.” He takes in a slow breath, as if steeling himself for what he’s going to say, “when you guys get out can… can you tell Anna that I love her? Tell her that I’m sorry I couldn’t say goodbye in person.”

Grian inhales sharply at the words, caught off guard. He composes himself after a minute, “I will. I’ll tell her,” he says solemnly. “I’ll find everyone the others mentioned too. I’ll make sure none of you will go forgotten.” If I survive. Grian doesn’t say it.

Lily stares at them for a moment before nodding too, “I promise as well.” The doubt is clear in her voice.

Once he’s sure he’s far enough away, Grian pulls out the paper and pen he stole. It was a risk, but he has to do it. It’s the least he could do, for not being able to save them. He writes down all of their names, followed by everything important they shared with him.

They may be dead, but Grian will keep them alive in his memories. He also has to tell their loved ones. He doesn’t want to face them and tell them that he survived while the one they loved died, but it’s his price to pay. They deserve to know the truth, deserve to have closure.

They all deserve to have a proper burial, Grian thinks bitterly. The Watcher’s destroyed the bodies of everyone who died, leaving not a single trace of them ever being there. He wished there was. To give their loved ones something to remember them by.

This is what Grian would have wanted if he died, so he has to do it for them back. Grian glances back at his wings, now colored with a purple gradient. He feels the magic coursing through his veins, ready to be summoned whenever he wants.

After all, if he can’t face his own family, why not face theirs?

I’m not entirely happy with this, but it has the vibes I was going for. They’re trapped, they do their best to stay positive, everyone but Grian dies, he escapes and becomes a vigilante.

Some explanations on what the Watcher’s are doing to them: Normal people aren’t supposed to be given non natural power. Either someone is born with it or not. The Watchers are trying to forcefully give people magic. They do it in small portions to try to mitigate the risk. Which works, since in small doses the issues from the experiment failing is minimal. Over time the person’s strength and energy is sapped until they literally cannot go on anymore. If it succeeds, the person gains whatever power the Watchers chose to give them. Lily could see through lies, for example.

I really want to emphasize Grian’s line about being powerless in this AU. Because it’s a major aspect of his actions here. Before this, he was just a normal person, no powers or any abilities to make him close to a hero’s strength. Which is an issue since Grian hasn’t liked the heroes for some time as it was. He hates being powerless against them. The Watchers gave him powers, he is no longer powerless against the heroes. Somehow, something good came from this. A little bit, at least.
