I think one of the biggest fantasy appeals of Heartstopper is not just “having a cute teenage romance”, but more specifically having that romance with a guy who unconditionally supports your coming out journey, is there for you, and has a group of queer friends who are also there for you while you’re figuring your queerness out.
The drama from Nick’s POV isn’t so much “Charlie wants us to be out” as it is “I want to be out, but I don’t know how to start.”

Tao having separation anxiety because of his Dad's death. Tao wanting to be a part of his friends' lives to the point where he comes off as clingy or nosy, because what if they're going through something life threatening. Tao who's afraid of drifting apart from his friends because he may lose them without being able to say goodbye. Tao who's afraid of falling to deep in love (romantically) with people because he saw how crushed his mother was when his dad died. Tao who just wants his friends to be happy and protected.

It kind of just occurred to me how much the queer community is winning this summer. We had Nimona. We had Barbie (ace Barbie, Allan, just queer vibes all around). We had Good Omens season 2. We had Heartstopper season 2. We're getting High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 4 and Red White and Royal Blue two days apart from each other. We even have The Witcher finally delivering with Jaskier (or at least it did in the first part, haven't watched part 2 yet).
I don't know where I was going with this. I'm just happy about it.

“First Kill is bad” to YOU. It was actually made for ME personally though so shut up. Sorry you can’t appreciate a pining lesbian vampire with a gay best friend that’s ride or die, a lesbian monster hunter with a neon aesthetic and a relationship with her ex, milfs, a complete lack of homophobia, monster hunting, shitty cgi, and cliche romantic tropes queer people never get to enjoy, but me? Well I can because I have TASTE

i need to say this and i need to say it now. something about how nick nelson says "i love liking you" to charlie means a lot more than just "i like you" and i'll tell ya why
there are too many pieces of queer media that have the character hating the fact that they like the love interest. just straight up despising it. nick doesn't do that- he actively enjoys having a crush on charlie and wanting to be his boyfriend and it makes my heart so fucking warm oh my god

The look on Nick’s face, during the drum scene, when he realizes that he’s been staring at Charlie’s lips and wants to kiss him is THE most adorable thing. Everyone look at it right now.

It’s been 31 days, and I still don’t think I’m really ready to confront my feelings on Heartstopper (TV)?
Like, I’ve seen so many meta posts and videos and comments and tags and tweets, etc…
The ones by older LGBTQ+ people talking about the mixed emotions of the hope and positivity of the show, tinged with regret and sadness that they (we) never really got that growing up…
And I broadly agree with all of it…
But I’m also finding it really hard to stop myself staying in the world that Heartstopper inhabits and makes me feel… The one where I’m 14 again, coming out and figuring myself out… Only this time, maybe I have a network of other LGBTQ+ people around me to lean on, and maybe a boyfriend to haltingly figure things out with…
It’s a feeling I definitely got from the comic before, but the show really made it that much more real.
