Fanon Remus is the bane of my existence. I want to gouge my eyeballs out every time I see it. Who is this asshole that behaves as though he's superior to everyone else around him? This aloof imposter that rolls his eyes constantly and says intentionally hurtful things to Sirius for shits and giggles? Who is this edgy, streetwise, Cool Dude™ natural genius with chiseled muscles and superhuman strength that towers over everyone else both physically and intellectually? He's so far removed from the actual Remus Lupin it would be laughable if it weren't so infuriating.

In my dream last night I was reading a newspaper and there was a straight couple whose relationship was described as a 'non-progressive heterocentric alliance' like why did my brain come up with that 😭

Overwatch female character design why do you hate me so much😭
Just when I thought they were done with the hetero crap of skimpy clad female characters back when Lifeweaver came out. Here we are again copy-pasting Tracer's body onto another female character.
Maybe it's cuz I was checking out a youtube channel that talks a lot about rwby but this looks like a character from rwby.

To think about and evaluate sexual entertainment media clearly, it helps to keep these basics in mind:
All sexual media or entertainment created as such:
is an intentional performance,
is fantasy of some kind, and
usually can’t tell or show you much about sex in real life.
Most sexual media or entertainment:
isn’t intended to be education;
is made by the people involved as if anyone, or even everyone, could be watching; there’s nothing private—behavior or otherwise—about it;
has more to do with someone making money than anything else: it is usually mostly, and often only, about profit;
isn’t often reflective of most people’s sexual realities or contexts (for most people, their doctor only provides professional healthcare, their teacher makes assignments, not sexual advances, and they don’t go to sleepovers with their friends dressed like lingerie models);
is very heterocentric, including in material or entertainment that includes sexual activity between people of a same or similar gender;
enables or even purposefully sexualizes bias and marginalization like sexism, racism, classism, fatphobia, and ableism; and
gives messages about sex and sexuality that don’t square with physically and emotionally healthy sexual practices, interpersonal dynamics, or relationships.
Some sexual media or entertainment:
contains, presents, or celebrates sexual violence and abuse or presents sexual violence as consensual sex;
is not made or distributed ethically or humanely (it might be made without everyone’s explicit, informed and enthusiastic consent or without humane labor practices and policies) (and some is);
is about someone trying to show you their personal, real-life sexuality;
is made creatively, thoughtfully, or independently and tries to do porn in a way that leaves out a lot of destructive or harmful things —like –isms and bias, sexualized violence, heterocentricity or gender stereotyping, lack of active consenting, and poor labor treatment; and
can make people feel supported in their sexualities or sexual lives and good about themselves and others; others do the opposite; and some have no seeming impact; this depends on what the entertainment is, specifically, who is watching or otherwise taking part in it, and how they feel about it.

I could NEVER read shipfic ewwww it’s so cringe and gross. “He does x” no he fucking wouldn’t lmfao it’s so homophobic the relationships are always being viewed from a heterocentric lens. Grow up and just insert yourself into the story directly instead of disregarding the canon and writing one character completely ooc so u can project onto them 🙄 I’m SO GLAD I’m not alone in this like who even wants to read that anyway???

"how many genders are there" there are zero genders, because gender is a rightwing white supremacist heterocentric social construct that was designed by men. anyone who claims to have a gender of any kind should be shot for being too misogynistic and homophobic to exist in society with normal people.
"There are zero genders"

Just thinking about how when Lestat seduces Antionette he gets her naked (pouring champagne on her blouse is a pretext for this), but his seduction(s) of Louis always involve his own nudity.  He tears her clothes off while remaining fully dressed himself, but he draws Louis to him by undressing and waiting.
Lestat is bisexual in every configuration regardless of who is currently having sex with, but his relationship with Antoinette fits into a number of heterosexist tropes.  He is “daddy” in the White southern patriarch sense as well as the modern kink one.  He is the financial provider, and her role is to provide him with sex and a sympathetic ear. I’m not sure he’s concerned with how she feels about him.  However, he quite clearly wants to be desired by Louis.
 In heterocentric narratives it remains rare for men’s nudity to be used with this intention.  While women’s naked bodies are sexualized even in non-sexual situations (those ad nauseam sexy solo shower scenes), men’s nudity is often functional in a non-sexual way.  Even when desire for men is present, it is often hidden: the housewife ogling the pool boy from inside while he “works.” We are more likely to see men actively and explicitly seeking to provoke desire in queer narratives.
It is unfortunate that so much mainstream representation of bisexuals frames desire in the first way: the heterosexist paradigm of men as desiring subjects and women as desired objects. One of the things that makes AMC’s IWtV so refreshing is that it does not do that.  Of course Louis’s relationship with Lestat is presented as more important than Antoinette’s; this is Louis’s story.  But it’s also sexier and, in aspiration at least, more equal.  Louis and Lestat are both subjects and objects of desire, and their sex scenes allow them to be both powerful and vulnerable simultaneously.

About the Video
I have gotten so many asks (and messages from antis 🙄) about this video. Rather than turn my blog into a "video Q & A", I'll just give my thoughts on it here in one post.
Fake, fan fiction, CPN.
I'm going to start by saying that the very best response to negative buzz or attacks on GG and/or DD (which this video definitely is), is always to simply ignore, keep quiet and let it blow over. The more engaged we get with the subject, the more buzz we are helping to build around it. In situations like this, it is not in GGDD's best interests for people to freak out. Often the entire purpose of an attack like this is to upset people and stoke up fan wars.
I say this all the time and you'll hear me repeating it again and again and again - block and ignore (and report when appropriate).
If something comes up and you don't see me talking about it, this is why. I don't like giving more oxygen to garbage like this.
THE ROAD IS LONG
Being a (happy) turtle requires critical thinking, media literacy skills and a high degree of fortitude. This is all basic self-care and intellectual self-defense. I've been saying this kind of thing a lot and hopefully it's getting through to some people. If you have a heart of glass, if you are gullible and easily swayed, if you are easily thrown into fits of anxiety and self-doubt, and if you aren't willing to change your self-destructive social media habits, this might not be the right fandom for you.
As turtles we are often outnumbered by enemies who are trying to harm us, debunk our CPN, harm GG and DD, stoke up fan wars, push their own heterocentric agendas, spew homophobia, fandom-phobia and RP/CP-phobia, spread hate against one or both of the boys, make BXG cry, etc. etc. etc.
This fandom is not for the faint of heart.
Heteronormativity plays a key role, here
We've seen countless interactions and sweet moments between GG and DD that make this idiotic video look like a passerby patting a stray dog in the street, and yet there are STILL turtles who are shaken by it.
We have seen a ton of evidence of BJYXSZD, and candies and CPN coming at a regular pace, yet turtles freak out over a 2 year old sibling-ish video clip that has clearly been maliciously edited.
If this video makes you feel shaken about GG and DD it might be time to self-reflect on your attitude toward queer relationships.
Heteronormativity and 'burden of proof' is a huge part of how things get skewed in the fandom. The (often unconscious) assumption among most people is that heterosexuality is the default, and queer relationships don't happen. People need a PHD thesis and a grand jury to believe that GG and DD's relationship is even remotely possible, yet they need nothing more than a rumor and a badly edited video to believe GG or DD is dating a woman. It's insane.
GG and DD could have their tongues down each other's throats and people will still scratch their heads and hmm and haw about them, but the second either of them talks to or interacts with a woman, the immediate assumption is that they're going to marry her.
This is just the way everyone is socialized in our homophobic world, and it plays somewhat of a protective role for GGDD. They wouldn't be able to be as open about their relationship as they are if they were a heterosexual couple. Heteronormativity means that evidence of their being a couple is easily dismissed by most people and they're able to fly under the radar this way.
But as turtles we should know better. We should be able to recognize this dynamic at work and not be thrown by it.
This is not a 'cute moment'
If you are viewing this incident as 'the leaking of a cute moment between friends', or if you are worried about the implications for GG and DD's relationship, you are missing the entire point of the video.
This video has nothing to do with GG and DD. It has nothing to do with friendship. Quite the contrary. It's a targeted attack.
Make no mistake about it - the filming of this video was not an accident. The release of this video was not an accident. The timing of both the filming and the release of it were not accidents. The editing and removal of context were not accidents. This was an intentional attack on GG, aimed at hurting him.
I'm not going to go into all the details of it here. It's an unsavory topic that is best kept private. But if you see something causing a negative stir around either GG or DD, that's probably the entire intent of the situation. To cause a negative stir, stoke up fan wars, and ultimately to harm them.
Context is everything
I want to remind everyone of the context here. GG had earlier that night just enjoyed a major 'comeback' moment after 2/27, when his fans greeted him with a sea of red. If you weren't around back then, you might not understand the significance of what happened.
We had just spent several months watching GG get trashed and attacked and negatively discussed in the media. He had been lying low for months and months. Many of us wondered whether he'd ever recover. As we all know - in C-ent, artists are routinely canceled and blacklisted, often for apparently minor 'infractions'. We had no reason to believe GG would be able to bounce back.
youtube
Then Tencent Starlight Awards comes along, and here's GG on the red carpet and then onstage, singing in front of a huge audience, and there was a sea of red light banners that fans had smuggled in to show their love and support. And GG was clearly deeply moved by it all, to where he got choked up toward the end.
I don't think I was the only person bawling my eyes out at that moment. I STILL can't watch that video without getting choked up. It was such an important moment in GG's career.
And GG was visibly relieved. I can only imagine how elated he must have been after the event, to see that his career was going to survive.
I have no doubt he went to that party in high spirits, happy to be able to go out and enjoy an evening celebrating among other stars. His guard would have been down in this closed 'backstage' environment where cameras were not supposed to be. And some utter dirtbag decides to film his interactions, with their own agenda in mind.
The filming and editing and release of this clip, the timing of it, the hot search, everything about it is intended to harm GG and benefit others. This isn't the first time such an incident has happened, and GG isn't the first victim (and likely won't be the last).
It was an egregious violation of his privacy and of his trust, and as people who love him we should be addressing it for what it is instead of having our own self-serving anxiety about what it means for GGDD. You know what it means for GGDD?
Sweet FA.
It means less than nothing. Anyone who thinks DD is jealous about this moment has their head in a moist, dark place. Let me guarantee you, DD is as pissed as I am about what was done to GG, and isn't harboring some ridiculous insecurity about GG's interactions. DD knows GG's real feelings.
Any doubts turtles feel are their own, and have absolutely nothing to do with GG and DD.
Anyone who knows GG knows he's casual and affectionate with others. He had shared a stage with the other subject earlier in the evening, so it's not surprising he had a friendly exchange with her. He is that way with co-stars, with colleagues and with anyone he works with. He's a genuine, down-to-earth, funny, sweet guy.
Those tendencies in him were taken advantage of in some pretty unforgivable ways, here, and THAT'S the real story. Someone is attempting to benefit at his expense, and that's the real story.
This will blow over. Let it. Let's all stop giving this BS story oxygen, and instead focus on loving and supporting GG and DD.
EDIT: More on this here.

The thing I find lame about SNW is that they "lean into" Spock's human half. Ohhhhh oo-hoo-hooooo look at me! I'm a writer who wants to put my goofy ass spin on Mr. Spock!
But then they want to call it a canon prequel to the ORIGINAL? Like canon. To the original. I don't buy it. Canon to the OG where Spock is literally disgusted and ashamed of his human half and has spent his ENTIRE life hiding it? Like the entire time, that includes the time in which SNW supposedly takes place? And the T'Pring shit I can't even bring myself to talk about because it deviates so far from canon? A one-off character they just brought back to make Spock seem less fucking gay?
Hoh look a musical episode! Wow! It's camp get it??? Camp?? Cuz the original was campy?? Except Spock is straightwashed so they managed to make camp heterocentric so what are they doing and what was the point? Who the hell is this supposed to be for?
What. Were. They. Thinking. I'm going insane. Episode where SPOCK becomes HUMAN? Episode where they SPLIT the MIXED RACE character who was written as MIXED RACE in the SIXTIES! I dare them to write a goofy episode where Oops! I turn Full Native and see how quirky and racially sensitive it is. Hoho so fun and goofy!
No I cannot overlook these transgressions. I want as many people as possible to know that I'm disgusted and to feel vindicated in knowing that they aren't the only one. I'm so sorry fellow mixed race queers. We deserve better from a "Star Trek show". And Spock as a character deserves so much more respect than he's ever given in reboot writing. A kid with a Spock action figure could conjure up a superior narrative.
I haven't been this angry since AOS (straight Spock [x2] White Khan [x1] mental diarrhea [x1000]).
There's so many types of Star Trek Show at this point that there is bound to be some contention over what is the "right vibe" and what is sacrilege but whatever the fuck SNW and AOS is dishing out is just sooooo far removed from everything I found appealing about Star Trek. Oooo big het guys do tuff stuff but never in a gay way (maybe throw a qweer in the background so people can't call out lack of rep) and also the enterprise looks like a migraine and maybe there's some explosions oooooooo [has a stroke and fucking dies]

Because your recent two posts made me think about it: the webtoon I'm The Grim Reaper by Graveweaver is a comic I know where the entirety of the fanbase is in agreement that the angry and selfish dark-haired lead was in romantic love with the self-deprecating and idealistic blond lead and committed atrocities in the name of said romantic love.
This is possibly made easier to recognize by said angry and selfish dark-haired lead being a woman. (Admittedly I also love her very much. She falls into one of my favorite character archetypes of 'biting you' and 'just generally a mess'.)
That said. I'm sure there are 50,000,000 comics and novels and shows where there's an angry and selfish dark-haired male lead in love with an idealistic and self-deprecating blonde woman.
This has been. Various rambling thoughts. Enjoy?
This reminds me of the Berserk-like recs trend my asks had for a time. Love that.
I do absolutely think that if you make one of the characters a woman people stop arguing about the romantic connotations. It's heterocentrism... but if I'm going to be blunt and honest for a moment here, it's also because if the characters are of opposite sex, the relationship is more likely to have intended it to be seen that way and thus more likely to be actively written into the story.
Though this is starting to change. Still a long way to go.

The thing is someone can be asexual and autistic and still be misogynistic. These things aren't mutually exclusive. The idea that being in the presence of a woman implies that you're going to or want to have sex with her is misogynistic whether the person is autistic or ace or both or neither.
Yeah, I'm aware? I feel like you're interpreting me in bad faith (which is of course why you're anon, lbr). But I've been thinking about how to better express my point there anyway, so I'll bite.
So the thing is, what screams autistic/ace about that post isn't that it's misogynistic. Obviously. It's that the almost-certainly-a-cis-dude that wrote it has created a chain of logic that "works" and is sticking to the rule it creates 100% even though it's ridiculous, which is autistic behavior, which I'm allowed to say because I do the same thing. The writer presumes that all people (or at least all the people he knows) are straight, and that therefore other men have no possibility of being into him and will simply get in the way of his woodsy fun by being ableist about what he considers fun; women, on the other hand, may also be ableist but additionally have a non-zero chance of being attracted to him and reading his willingness to be in the woods with them as romantic interest, and there is a non-zero chance that they will act on that, so it is safer to simply avoid women in this situation in order to avoid the distraction and awkwardness.
The humor you're seeing so many people express about this post comes from the fact that we are all aware that this is silly. Avoiding being alone with women in the woods entirely because they might want to kiss is an overreaction, but we probably all have at least one thing that we overreact to as a Rule because of a similar train of logic, or we used to but realized it was ridiculous and course-corrected. Here's another viral post along those lines. Here's another.
Less humorously, I'd point to this post and its screencapped tags, which explain how autistic people are traumatized into avoiding social situations because we know that we may accidentally hit the invisible line where allistics feel we've done something unforgivable and refuse to accept any explanation. It's unspoken in the post we're talking about, but it's really always lurking in any situation that involves an autistic person dealing with allistics.
I can see how this could feel like the same kind of thing as Mike Pence refusing to be alone with women without Mother there to non-autistic/ace people, I think, but the distinction is that he isn't expressing any judgement of them or fear of their sexuality. I'm not sure if you've forgotten the post or are deliberately rewriting it here, but he's not worried that "being in the presence of a woman implies that [he's] going to or want to have sex with her," he finds the idea of someone wanting to get romantic with him uninteresting (asexual) and a distraction from staring at bugs (autistic), so he's trying to avoid it.
And this isn't to downplay the sexist aspect, because there clearly is one! This is a probably-cis-probably-guy on 4chan, and there's a strong element of "women are another species" and also of the idea that other men might be buddies but women are largely potential romantic interests. But to me, that is such a background-radiation-in-society-type sexism that ... I mean, it's everywhere, does one get upset at every joke about a woman saying she's fine when she's not, or every movie and tv show where young men talk about wanting to meet women for sex rather than to know them as people? (It's also very heterocentric, as I mentioned before, because the writer clearly assumes no men would be interested in him and that all women are straight and have potential for being interested in him, which I actually found more jarring.) The relatable autistic-and-ace-but-doesn't-know-it-yet vibes of the post balance it out very easily to me. The balance is going to be different for different people.
