1600-1700 names list
I been collecting names for my decades challenged and I decided to share it. It has a bunch of different names in alphabetical order.
Not 100% sure how accurate these names are as I’m not a historian , but I like them.
Some names are “nicknames” or a variation of the same name, like Faye is from Faith ,Orelia is from Aurelia and Sisely from Cecilia/Cecily.
Some names are Shakespearean , Puritan/Virtue names , American Colonial and perhaps a Arthurian here and there.

Historical Dutch names for storytelling (1700s-1980s)
Note: it was common for sons to get the first name of their father, and his father before him etcetera. But the nicknames would be different. For example: there could be 3 generations named Albertus but they would be called Albert, Bert and Bertus. Or the oldest could be called old Bert, or something like that.
MASCULINE
Hendrikus (Henricus, Hendrik, Henk, Henri) Christianus (Christiaan, Chris) Johannus (Johan, Hans, Jan, Jannus) Jacobus (Jacob, Jakob) Fransiscus (Frans, Frank) Frederik (Fred, Alfredus) Antonius (Anton, Antoon) Albertus (Albert, Bert) Adrianus (Adriaan, Ad, Aart) Sebastiaan (Bastiaan, Bas) Theodorus (Theo) Wilhelmus (Willem, Wilhelm, Will) Robertus (Robert, Rob) Petrus (Peter, Piet, Pieter) Paulus (Paul) Martinus (Martin, Maarten, Marten, Martijn, Mathijs) Marcellinus (Marcus, Marcel, Marco, Marc, Mark) Marinus (Marius) Arnoldus (Arnold) Bernardus (Berend, Bernard) Gerrit Harry Gerardus (Gerard, Geert, Gerhard) Kornelis Klaas Leonardus (Leo) Nicolaas (Nico, Niels) Richard Roelof (Roel) Rogier Ronaldus (Ronald, Roy) Rudolph (Rudolf, Ruud, Rutger) Stephanus (Stefan, Steven) Vincent Kees Joris Coenraad (Coen, Koen) Floris Teun Daan (Daniel) Abraham (Bram) Barend Diederik (Dirk, Dick) Hugo
FEMININE
Johanna (Anna, Anne) Maria (Marie, Marieke, Marietje, Maartje) Aagje Adriana (Adriaantje, Alie) Alberta Anita (Annie, Anette, Annemieke, Annemarie, Antje) Brenda Brigitte Carolina (Carola, Caroline) Catharina (Cato, Catootje) Dirkje Engelina (Ellen, Elly, Ellie) Esther Evelien (Eveline, Everdina) Francina (Fransisca, Francien) Frederika (Frederike, Freedje) Geertruida (Geertje, Gerarda, Gerda, Gerdina, Gerritje, Getruda, Grietje) Hanneke (Hanna, Hanne) Hendrika (Hendrikje, Henrica, Henriëtte) Janneke (Janna, Jantje, Janneke, Jannie, Janie) Jolanda Karin Magdalena
Tips for making the names unique and interesting:
-Add a c before a k (Hendrik --> Hendrick)
-Turn the second a into an e (Klaas --> Klaes || Nicolaas --> Nicolaes)

If anyone else is curious, like I was, about nicknames people might use in the 18th century, I found some helpful sites:

why is religious Christmas imagery all so joyful and pleasant? where is the inherent horror of the birth of Christ? A mother is handed her newborn child, wailing and innocent. Her hands come away sticky. Red. Simply by giving her son life she has already killed him. He is doomed from the beginning. Her love will not save him from suffering. Because the thing cradled in her arms is not a baby, it is a sacrifice: born amongst the other bleating animals whose blood will one day be spilled in the name of what demands it. the night is silent with anticipation. Mary, did you know? That your womb was also a grave?

Hi I was wondering if you know of any good resources to get good vintage names that aren’t typical and boring (Fred, Edward, Alfred etc)?
Some of the names in the Santa letters are certainly peculiar and it made me wonder what kind of names those “vintage baby names” lists are leaving out 😜
Thanks! And happy new year 🎊
One place to get a good general overview of what names were like in a certain era is the Social Security Administration's lists of popular names that go back to the 1880s. The further down the lists you go the less common they get. However these are still all names that had at least a few hundred occurrences, so you're not going to have any Gloyds etc..
I personally always try to find names from primary sources (newspapers, census, vital records, etc.) as you're more likely to come across unusual names that don't make the top 200 lists.
Also keep in mind that name popularity varied greatly by location. Just because there were a bunch of Juanitas in Tulsa in 1930 doesn't mean there were that many in Boston.
Honestly if anyone is working on a specific project and needs names from a certain location/era (i.e. you're writing a novel that takes place in London in 1627) feel free to message me and I'd be happy to work with you to compile a list from primary sources. I love this stuff and will use any valid excuse to spend an evening digging through 17th century baptismal records.

Lackadaisy Enrichment
#in our enclosures!!#video linked as source; which i'm glad to see already has a million views and is trending. That's Right#lackadaisy#WHICH i have been reading since at least '07 when i was thirteen my god b/c this animation is based on the ongoing webcomic#like does its influence show up Directly in some Discrete way i can point to in my art? not very easily probably. And Yet.#the inspiration....i wasn't able to be Regularly Only for at least another year / art done Nonprofessionally Online was novel to me#like wow ppl can make & post fanart of w/e they love huh....didn't know webcomics were a thing & i never really read that many since but.#good god the quality of Lackadaisy at its onset is like this is superb?? this person putting in all their talent and effort???#and Then you get years & years more art and i don't even know what superlatives to throw out abt its quality as it evolves. obsessed w/it..#if i see a new lackadaisy comic page i Will be acting out. obviously this animation is a delight & also stunning. and fascinating to also#juxtapose as a Translation / Interpretation of the comic in a different medium & standalone snippet of Story#and that we're not even quite there in the comic timeline; Taking Notes abt character info we get distilledly here....genuinely love like#take it back to '07 i'm like oh boy can't wait for the dream team to assemble. then a decade later when it did? Oh Boy. that is payoff lol#namely hooray for stitches and mudbug at the field office for every passing gangster. killing one marigold associate but not the other#which seems like a promising start to shootouts w/the other dream team triumvirate. i adore that in canon so far mordecai freckle & rocky#have met but only over a nice brunch. re: all intentions anyways. anyways i'm like Gifs Must Be Made while i'm also so riled afresh abt the#comic that i've been sooo hype for for over fifteen yrs now babeyyy Deservedly. i've done a couple of rereads & ought to do another....#For Interest it'd probably take a few sittings to catch up from the start but there is much to be engaged over....this ongoing story that's#historical fiction prohibition bootlegging cats with plenty of focus on characters & several Mysteries. which i'm better at parsing now lol#like one of the more recent rereads like Oh Of Course x (probably) accidentally killed his y & z took the fall & that's a binding secret...#Not [oh of course] abt the circumstances surrounding a's death & how b & c were involved. nor the ''what's marigold's damage'' mystery#which is great. love to not know things. love that we can readily follow all the emergent drama everyone's wading in nowadays. hell yeah#anyways admire my organized approach to gifs here. four shots each Expressions Atmosphere Action Groupshots#sure might've muddled through gifmaking for this anyways but fr being a huge lackadaisy comic enjoyer for now most of my life helps#and its very Overall Inspiration like. just really getting the [you can really just draw stuff out here] going. fr the art's detail & skill#and that enrichment like i'm gonna have a great time following this. And I Have#you don't expect a crowdfunded indie animation in the mix back then but hell yeah fellas#SIGH ok removing a 4th gif that's broken / not displayed despite reuploading then entirely remaking it. if it's a bug i'll try again later

Breaking News: Olympics consider whether or not to invite stoat athletes next year.
After the shocking win of Jaysohn Lastname last week, conversations about letting them compete in next years competition have commenced.
“The fact that he broke the record on his first try is astounding,” Peter Ueberroth, chair of the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee, said.
Lastname’s long jump measured at 14.7 meters, almost doubling the previous record of 8.9 meters.
Bob Beamon, previous record holder, argued that it wasn’t a fair competition.
“It’s like letting a cheetah participate in the 100 meter dash. There’s just no way for a human to win,” Beamon said.
It did come to a surprise that the stoat was able to jump so far. While the other competitors only had two legs to run on, each step was longer than a stoat.
Nevertheless, when Lastname went up to jump, he suddenly grew large, blue arms, and used them to hurtle himself the impressive distance.
When asked how he did that, Lastname simply said “Jaysohn rules!”
According to Dr. Tara Steel, stoats are able to absorb and use radiation for their incredible feats.
This has led to some questions about how safe it is for these stoats to compete. Dr. Steel has previously said that the radiation is only a minor danger, releasing radiation comparable to that released by the sun.
“Yeah, it should be fine,” Dr. Lila Lastname, Jaysohn’s sister and first stoat physicist, said.
The UN has currently stalled in recognizing the land within Ukrainian borders as it’s own country.
Jeane Kirkpatrick, US ambassador to the united nation, explained that there is very little political gain for such a move.
“These stoats are just little guys,” Kirkpatrick said.
There’s also the problem that these stoats have very little economic or social ties with the rest of the world.
“It also feels a little weird to have a country named Stoat Place.” Kirkpatrick explained. “I think it would help their efforts to change the name.”
“We are not changing the name,” Thorn Vale, Stoat Ambassador, has repeatedly said.

I'm sorry, this was bothering me enough to send in an ask.
The stupid question is: how strict is Earth-Kingdom-is-China vs Fire-Kingdom-is-Japan generally? I mostly ask because although none of the canon characters use real Japanese names, but it feels like everyone uses Japanese names for Fire Kingdom and Chinese for Earth, which makes Chinese Wanyi for Zuko's ship not fit in.
I mean, the waters are muddied from China's historical domination over the area, and it's a really great pun, but I woke up and my brain wouldn't let go of the entirely petty issue.
Ugh. Sorry for the stupid ask, especially since I don't come bearing any like funny trivia with to mitigate with. Please feel free to disregard as well, especially since I'm too cowardly to link to my actual tumblr account.
There's absolutely no strictness, because that's a fanon division anyway, and not one I adhere to. Fanon is fake and we can make of it what we want, and I want the pretty ship name!

Breaking news: my new hen has started laying!
Guess which one of these is Baby's First Egg...
Tumblr media
She's still quite young and has been laying mini-eggs so far, it's really cute to find them in the nesting box every morning next to Dru's grown-up eggs.
Tumblr media
As per tradition the new hen has received a name on this solemn occasion. She laid her first egg on the anniversary of an important event of the Paris Commune so I decided to name her Louise Michel. To celebrate this doubly important date, the hens got a croissant for breakfast.
Tumblr media
As soon as they identified it as food and not a large yellow caterpillar, the competition became very fierce.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dru pounced and grabbed it and made a run for it while Louise stood there staring at the empty spot where a croissant used to be. I had to catch her and gently turn her 180°, then she realised her croissant was getting away and gave chase.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To ensure equal croissant opportunity I then caught Drusilla and confiscated her prey to cut it in two, but they ignored my attempt at conciliation and just chose one half to fight over.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here they are neck and neck, Louise Michel won't give an inch!
Tumblr media
It was a cutthroat battle and once they were done they started over with the remaining half. They are not interested in win-win situations. Chickens are proud of their dinosaur heritage and only violence makes their blood sing.
