The Saint: The Saint Bids Diamonds (4.7, ITC, 1965)
"Ah, Felson! Good morning. You slept late."
"Do you mind?"
"Not in the least. Little touchy this morning, aren't we?"
"Just naturally unpleasant."
#the saint#the saint bids diamonds#1965#itc#leslie charteris#pat lasky#jesse lasky jr.#roger moore#eunice gayson#george murcell#jean st. clair#gerard heinz#peter illing#ed bishop#neville becker#laurence herder#ricardo montez#leslie norman#another of the comparatively rare full novel adaptations (and presumably the last; once the series hit colour‚ it became more dependent on#original scripts and relied much less on Charteris' work). Thieve's Picnic was first published in 1937 but had been given the title used by#this episode as early as the late 40s. i haven't read it as far as i can recall‚ but looking it up this appears to have been a relatively#faithful version‚ including most of the major plot beats. not entirely sure where the minor astrology subplot comes from and I'm even#less certain why Simon should be quite so sceptical (this is the man who experienced voodoo for real back in 3.21)#ed bishop spends almost the entire episode tied up in a cellar‚ so that Simon can impersonate him which can only mean... yep it's time for#another look at Roger Moore's American accents! he goes subtler here than he has in other eps so it's basically ok‚ tho it does wander in#one or two scenes. a fairly late role for Heinz (a great actor who never quite broke through like he deserved to) and a wonderfully#grotesque turn from the ever excellent Murcell‚ but this doesn't have the urgency or high stakes that the other novel adaptations have#shown. also Simon has been hired by a museum to get back some jewels? Simon Templar‚ viewed by most of the world as an infamous#jewel thief? quite a plan. this was the only Saint script from husband and wife team Pat and Jesse Lasky but both worked on#subsequent ITC productions including Danger Man and The Protectors.

Thought of Peter Dyneley again.
And that one bath scene he's in from the movie House of Mystery Zo.
Don't judge me when I say I didn't imagined Jeff Tracy in bath with glasses reading a book. 😂

It was at Clearwater, also, that Keith first played to Mick the tune that would become our biggest single hit internationally: “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Keith originally conceived it as a folk song, probably a good filler track for our next album. Neither Mick nor Keith saw it as a potential single, and certainly not a hit. But Keith’s instinct must have told him it was worth some effort, because he kept working on it. [...]
Tumblr media
Chicago always had our affection, though, since it was a blues city; we had fond memories of our recording sessions there a year earlier. On 10 May, we drove to Chess Studios for what became a nine-hour recording session, cutting several songs, including… the first version of “Satisfaction,” which wasn’t very good. “I didn’t think much of it,” Keith said. “We considered it a good B-side or maybe an LP track.” But Scott Ross heard a demo of the original track and said: “It had a harmonica track on it – Brian on harmonica. I bet Mick, Keith and Brian that it was going to be the biggest record the Stones had ever had, and that was before the fuzz-tone was put on. Mick disagreed with me, and the bet was for a pair of boots from Anello & Davide. And I did get them!”
Tumblr media
Moving to Los Angeles on 11 May, we prepared for the next two days to immerse ourselves in recording at the RCA Studios in Hollywood. These became our most grueling but productive sessions; we recorded on 12 May from 10 a.m. until 2:15 the following morning. Attempting “Satisfaction” again, we found it suddenly went right with Keith using a fuzz-box and Charlie laying down a different tempo: the song just gelled. Keith and Mick were still not completely happy about it, though. After we listened to the master, we discussed whether it would be the next single, as Andrew and Dave Hassinger, our patient recording engineer, were so positive about it. We put it to the vote. Andrew, Dave, Stu, Brian, Charlie and I voted yes, while Mick and Keith voted no. The majority carried the day; it would be our next single. In later years, Mick always said that only Keith was doubtful about it. [...]
youtube
The premiere of the song which was now named “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” was on TV’s Shindig, produced in Los Angeles by the expatriate British pop guru Jack Good. Keith played a new Gibson Firebird on this show on 20 May; we had requested that blues artists Howlin’ Wolf (who had recorded “Little Red Rooster”) and Son House should be on the show with us. We were in hysterics when Jack Good persistently referred to him, in his “proper” English, as “Mr. Howlin’.” The backing group here consisted of Leon Russell, who later worked with me on my solo albums, James Burton, the guitar ace, and Delaney; Sonny & Cher and Jimmie Rodgers were also on the show. [...]
Tumblr media
Our recording career continued to blossom. In America, our seventh single, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”*, was released on 5 June, backed by “The Under-Assistant West Coast Promotion Man” and it was released in a colour sleeve. “Satisfaction”’s lyrics consolidated our reputation in the States as “bad boys”...
* “Satisfaction,” which was Number One for four weeks in America, is one of only two songs – the other is “White Christmas” – to have been a hit in five different years, with charted cover versions by Otis Redding (1966), Aretha Franklin (1967), Bubblerock (a pseudonym for Jonathan King) (1974) and Devo (1976).

You're a 19 year old kid.
You are critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam .
Its November 14, 1965 . LZ (landing zone) X-ray.
Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in.
You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out.
Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again.
As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.
Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter.
You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn't seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it.
Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you.
He's not MedEvac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's
flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway.
Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway.
And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board.
Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!!
Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm.
He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey.
Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Army, died at the age of 81, in Boise, Idaho.
I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing,Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman.
Now... YOU pass this along.
Honor this real hero.

1-800-TITS = @1800titz (added May 21)
Series: The Devil is a Gentleman: "My name is Eros," the masked male cocks his head a smidge at her, and, if only slightly through the shadow casts between the parted zipper, Isla catches sight of a smile tugging at his lips on the latter fragment of his statement, "But you already know that. I'd hope, anyways. We've had a chat. Or two." His lips - his mouth. Isla ogles the latex through the peepholes of her own and wonders what shape the rest of his features take, what carves and forges his face, how his nose slopes, the assemblage of it all. "I think I recall, vaguely," she teases. "Mm. Vaguely. I'll take note of that. Well, although we are acquainted," Eros smooths his fingertips over the arm of the chair, a lavish facade of plastic masquerading. The latter fragment of his statement prompts the steady bump of her heart to spur behind her ribcage. "You will address me as Master." Isla swallows. Despite her prior train of thought looping so intently on the tracks to decipher what she believes he'd look like beneath his mask, it's entirely derailed by the serious note in his previously light cadence. She wonders how a mere introduction manages to send such a thrilling rush rolling down her spine. Eros leans forward, forearms braced to his splayed thighs, almost as if to bend to her level. "Or Sir. Master, Sir, it's all the same to me. Your preference." OR the one in which there's a sex club, Greek stage names, the exploration of boundaries, an open house, a pair of dress shoes, and two sides of the same coin.
_miiki
Series: Artwork & Aquarelle: "Sierra, you go with Harry Styles." I raised up my head at the words, giving my teacher an incredulous glance. "Do I really have to?" Was the only thing I managed to say. The teacher gave me an annoyed look. "Did you not understand? You go with Harry Styles." I turned my head to look at him. At the mention of his name he glanced up, and if his green eyes hadn't frozen me in place already, the unimpressed look he gave me would've done it right away.
Aggressivelyfriendly = @aggresivelyfriendly
Series: Who Names the Colors: In the last year, Joanne Smith Giles, has once again become Jo Smith. In another heartbreaking turn of events, she's also the single mother of an infant, again. She knows she can do this on her own, and better at 40 than 19, but it seems weird to be launching a son into manhood, a new career as an art professor, and changing nappies all in one day. She is so thankful when Ethan, her boy, comes home from Uni. Jo could use the help. His best friend, Harry, comes round too. And his launch into manhood may be another heartbreaking turn, for all of them
ErinAlterEgo = @yourwattpadmom

Encouraged by her husband to explore a polyamory relationship to meet some of her more....eclectic tastes, she finds herself on a dating app for the first time in her life. Harry is on a new path in his life that is exciting and different than he ever could have imagined. He's looking for excitement, experiences, but definitely not love and attachment. When he meets Alex, he sees a whole new path that he's unsure he wants to go down, but finds it hard to resist.
Hitterj (love all of her stuff!)
Series: All This Time: The coming-of-age story of Harry and Riley who have known each other for years, but never actually knew each other. Like an invisible string pulls them together, so they can experience life and love and heartbreak. Riley and Harry learn a lot about themselves, and ultimately have to choose what's best for their future no matter how difficult that can be. But does love find a way? After all this time?
Series: Kiwi: If you don't know about this one by now... go read it - super duper smutty and sweet and angsty
Series: Sweet Little Lies: All her life, Ivy Malone has known what her family was. She grew up in the deep, unforgiving world of the mob. Ivy hates her position in life, knowing that her life was never fully hers. Harry Styles was cold. He trusted almost no one, especially his family. He had learned quickly that everyone was waiting for him to fail... to fall. An empire built by his father from the blood and bones of those who stepped in his way was all he had, no matter how much he hated it. He had no choice but to carry on the legacy. Joey B Blurbs: Smile
Tumblr media
————————————————————————-
Summary: Joe’s learning his new girlfriend's ways, along with attempting to get bonus points with her dad.
Warnings: Pure fluff, illusions to smut at the end
Pairing: Joe Burrow x reader
Imagine Universe: Misc.
————————————————————————-
April 9, 2024
Y/n and I have been together for a month.
We met at a party Sam had at his house a few months back, she was his girlfriend’s college roommate and they were best friends till today.
The second I’d laid eyes on y/n, I was taken aback by her beauty.
Sam had noticed, and a sly smile was on his lips when he spoke the words I’d forever be thankful for.
“Go talk to her. She’s single.” - Sam
I had done as Sam said, and we hit it off immediately. By the end of the night, I worked up the courage to ask for her number.
Eventually, I asked her out on a date, and we ended up having the best time.
The rest is history and now we've been dating for a month.
We have a lot in common, but I realized the other day that we don't have the same taste in music.
I liked rap, pop, indie.
On the other hand, y/n loved oldies. Old rock, old soul, and anything 60’s, 70’s, 80’s.
I learned that the other day when I picked her up from her apartment to hang out at my place.
When she was in my passenger seat, y/n controlled the music, and when she shuffled her playlist, I realized I knew nothing.
“Do you know this?” - you
“Uh… no.” - Joe
“You’ve never heard My Girl by The Temptations?!” - you
After she left that night, I found the exact song that she played earlier. Y/n told me it was one of her favorite songs, and I knew I had to learn it.
1965?! Jesus…
I played it over and over. Over and over.
At the gym, in the shower, in my car, over a speaker at the house, in my headphones while playing video games. I was listening to this song as much as possible.
At times, I wondered why I was going through all of this trouble, but the song answered it for me.
My girl, my girl, my girl.
——
“Joey!!” - you
“Hey, baby.” - Joe
Y/n just arrived at my place for the evening and our sleepover. I was in the kitchen preparing dinner and for the rest of the day. We’d eat dinner together and probably cuddle for a bit before going to sleep.
If only she knew the surprise I had in store for her.
“I missed you.” - you
“Missed you too.” - Joe
She wrapped her arms around my middle as mine went to her waist. When y/n pulled away, I leaned down and kissed her soft lips. The chokehold this woman has on me is insane.
“C’mere, I wanna show you something.” - Joe
“What is it?” - you grin
I took her hand and led her to the middle of the kitchen, waking away for a second to click play on my phone that was connected to my speaker.
Her face lit up immediately when she heard the beginning of one of her favorite songs.
“What are you doing?” - you giggled
“C’mere. Dance with me.” - Joe
“You don't know this song!” - you
She said that just as the lyrics started, and y/n was surprised to see me sing along with it.
“What are you doing?” - you
“Dance with me!” - Joe
The look of surprise never left y/n’s face as she joined me in dancing around the kitchen.
I spun her around and pulled her close, dipping her shortly after.
“This is so fun.” - you grinned
“I’m surprised you're able to dance with me, I have two left feet.” - Joe
“You’re perfect, I promise.” - you
We grinned as we sang the chorus to each other, I could tell that y/n was loving every second of this.
Talkin’ ‘bout my girl, my girl
Y/n stepped back and spun around before running back into my arms, a slight pain in my cheeks from how much I was smiling.
In the last fifteen seconds of the song, we stood still, y/n’s arms around my neck and her hands connected at my nape while my arms were around her waist. Our foreheads rested against each other as we stared into each other’s eyes.
As the song faded out, we leaned in, and our lips softly met together. The beginning of a kiss and the ending of the song.
Y/n’s voice was quiet as she spoke, her voice muffled since her face was now pressed to my chest.
“That was the sweetest thing a guy’s ever done for me.” - you
“Yeah?” - Joe smiled
“I can’t believe you learned that whole song for me.” - you
“Well, after a conversation with your dad, he told me that you wanted that song at your wedding, so that means I kinda have to learn it.” - Joe
I regretted saying it as soon as it left my lips; we'd only been together for a month and never once talked about a future. Fuck I've messed up.
Y/n pulled away from my chest and looked up at me, the look in her eyes made my heart stop.
“Wait- forget I said that, I'm sorry.” - Joe
“No. No, it's okay.” - you smiled
I nervously laughed, the super breathy kind that tells on your emotions.
“Yeah?” - Joe
“Yeah. You're right, better to learn it sooner than later.” - you grinned
“You wanna marry me someday?” - Joe
“When the time comes, yes. There's a lot I want to do before that day rolls around, but I can’t picture walking down the aisle to anyone else.” - you
“Good. You don't think we're rushing things by having this conversation after only being together for a month?” - Joe
“You can't rush the inevitable, baby.” - you
I thought for a few seconds before blurting out something I'd been thinking since the moment I laid eyes on this woman.
“I love you.” - Joe
My heart was beating out of my chest when her eyes went wide, and her jaw dropped.
“Y-you do?” - you
“Yes, we just talked about marrying each other didn't we?” - Joe chuckled
I laughed to cover up my nervousness, but I don't think it worked. She hasn't said it back yet. If she was going to wouldn't she have said it back by now?
“Do you… do you love me?” - Joe
Y/n’s face fell from shock to amused, a laugh escaping her lips in the process.
“Wait- shit. Did I not say it back yet?” - you
“No.” - Joe states, face not changing
“Oh! I must've just said it in my head then, I was a little in shock.” - you giggled
Laughing together, when we settled down, I stared at her and waited for her to say it back.
“I love you too, Joe.” - you smiled
——
Later that night, y/n was in the shower, and I was already in bed.
I grinned to myself as I clipped the video I secretly took earlier when we were dancing in the kitchen.
Better cut it off before we kiss, I thought to myself.
Pulling up her dad’s contact in my phone, I sent him the video and a small text with it.
I'm learning! :)
I waited for his reply, a little nervous to see what he'd say back. I knew he liked me, but this was still his daughter we were dealing with.
When my phone vibrated, I immediately picked it up and clicked on his message.
Atta boy! I haven’t seen her smile like that in a long time, and I know it's because of you that she lights up like that again. Thank you for giving my daughter the treatment she deserves.
There’s nothing I love more than making her smile, she's already such a big part of my life. You're welcome, by the way, she deserves nothing but the best.
She feels the same way about you, son. I know she's spending the night at your house tonight, by the way, and I wasn't born yesterday, so stay safe. 👍
Will do. 😂
Just as I hit send, the door of the bathroom opened, but the shower was still on.
Y/n poked her head out of the door with a playful grin on her face.
“I know I'm supposed to be showering, but I can’t stop thinking about you. Wanna hop in with me?” - you winked
“Oh, hell yeah!” - Joe
I jumped off of the bed and ran towards the bathroom, simultaneously shoving my boxers down my legs. Y/n giggled as I chased after her and jumped into the shower.
She wrapped her arms around my neck as was started making out, the water flowing over our bodies.
“I was just talking to your dad.” - Joe
“Joe, why would you talk about my dad right before we're probably about to have sex?!” - you

O. V. Wright - Everybody Knows (The River Song) (1965)
"I am so miserable,
I am so tired.
Oh, I just sit on the Mississippi River
And watch the fish swim by.
My life is so confused,
But I don't wanna die;
I wanna go to heaven,
But I'm scared to fly."

Pontiac 2+2 428 Hardtop Coupe, 1967. The high performance version of the Catalina was only treated as a separate model for 2 years, 1966 and 67. Sales weren't great, hitting a peak of 11,521 units for the 1965 model year. So the '67 2+2 was the last of the line

I’m gonna turn 32 in nearly a month and I personally like being in my 30s a lot. I am not self-conscious or concerned with this. I look 30something, I feel 30something, and I am totally cool with this. I don’t feel like 32 is old or past prime (heck, I’m not even old enough to run for President) and I am even more excited to turn 33 in 2025, the age that hobbits traditionally come of age.
I think a lot of the doom and gloom posts about being in your 30s are overblown at best and a load of hogwash at worst and it makes me sad to see my younger friends feel nervous about hitting that 30 year milestone.
Your body does not instantly fall apart the second you blow out your birthday candles. You don’t immediately lose interest in doing anything you thought was fun in your 20s. (Hint: if you do, that’s called depression).
But I do have one warning for you if you’re a young person swiftly approaching 30, one sign of aging that I never hear anyone talking about but that was, for me, the harbinger of coming decrepitude.
One day, you may look at Captain von Trapp, as portrayed by Christopher Plummer in The Sound of Music (1965) and go, “Okay, hmmm, I kinda get what Maria sees in him,” when you know for a fact you once saw him as “old” when you were younger. That’s the point of no return. That’s the crucial transition point from “hip youth” to “grownup.”
Then one day, you may realize that Christopher Plummer was the same age as many of your friends when he made that movie. (He was 35.) And that’s the moment you’ve fully crossed the bridge into maturity. The sooner you process that, the more you’ll enjoy the rest of your 30s. Bon voyage!

The Bombing of Berlin
The bombing of Berlin, aka the Berlin Air Offensive or Battle of Berlin (Air), was a sustained bombing campaign on the German capital by the British Royal Air Force and United States Air Force from November 1943 until March 1944. The objective, which failed, was to bomb Germany into surrender and win WWII without the necessity of land operations.
Area Bombing
The commander-in-chief of the RAF Bomber Command, Arthur Harris (1892-1984), had received backing at the highest level for the night-time area bombing (aka carpet bombing) of German industrial targets and industrial cities. The Royal Air Force (RAF) and United States Army Air Force (USAAF) had already conducted a Combined Bomber Offensive and made repeated attacks on the Ruhr industrial area of Germany (Battle of the Ruhr, March-July 1943) and on Hamburg with the utterly devastating Operation Gomorrah (July-August 1943). Typically, the RAF bombed by night and the USAAF by day in these combined operations. As Winston Churchill (l. 1874-1965), the British prime minister put it:
We shall bomb Germany by day as well as by night in ever-increasing measure, casting upon them month by month a heavier discharge of bombs, and making the German people taste and gulp each month a sharper dose of the miseries they have showered upon mankind.
(Liddell Hart, 189)
By the summer of 1943, the Allied leaders began to shift their focus to a future invasion of Continental Europe. The Allies issued the Pointblank Directive in June 1943, which stated that bombing raids in Europe should prioritise Germany's capacity to produce fighter planes, which could be used against ground troops in the D-Day Normandy landings (Operation Overlord) planned for the following summer. Air supremacy had to be achieved before Overlord could get underway. However, Harris remained sceptical of the possibility of hitting small but strategically important targets like weapons factories. This was in some way born out by the USAAF's Schweinfurt-Regensburg raids. The first Schweinfurt raid in August 1943 had not been very successful in damaging the crucial ball-bearing factories, and many aircraft had been lost in the process. (The USAAF returned to Schweinfurt and was more successful in October). Berlin did have key armaments factories, and these could be knocked out with a wider and more indiscriminate bomb-dropping strategy, Harris thought. Berlin was also an obvious transport hub and, of course, a prestige target, too. Harris believed that the heavy bombing of Berlin could ultimately lead to Germany's surrender and so the Allies might even avoid the necessity of dangerous and time-consuming land operations.
There were some flaws in the plan. Berlin was a much bigger city than those bombed previously and so would take many more raids to damage. Harris knew this, and so he called for a force of 6,000 bombers, but this was never possible; the RAF and USAAF combined only had some 3,000 bomber planes at any one time. Berlin was also well-defended with over 100 anti-aircraft batteries. The historian M. Hastings describes Berlin as "the largest and most heavily defended industrial urban area in Europe" (285). As the historian R. Neillands put it, Berlin "was always a difficult target. It lay a long way into Germany, close to the eastern frontier, and was a very big and very flat city, with few physical features…" (217).
Another problem was that in 1943, Allied fighter planes still did not have sufficient fuel range to escort bombers to targets deep in Germany. Finally, the other bombing campaigns, which included the thousand-bomber raid on Cologne in 1942, had not shattered civilian morale despite causing enormous casualties and damage. This had also been true of the German bombing of British cities and the London Blitz earlier in the war. Even if German civilian morale could be broken, in a totalitarian state built on violence, there was probably not much civilians could do to influence policy change anyway. Despite these pitfalls, the Combined Chiefs of Staff gave Harris the green light, and the bombers were sent to Berlin. Crucially, the USAAF, preferring to pursue its own targets like Germany's oil supplies, would not join the raids until near the end of the campaign. The RAF bomber crews would be on their own in their effort to bomb into submission the city they called "Big B".
