#favourite lyrics #o. v. wright #everybody knows #everybody knows (the river song) #roosevelt jamison #m. j. keep #(if it is) only for tonight #1965 #wright is a fairly new discovery for me but is currently featuring pretty heavily in my day to day playlist #finding out a little more about this song was something of a challenge; I'd taken it for perhaps a traditional song #perhaps even a spiritual with links to pre american civil war black folk music; apparently not bc this is credited to Keep and Jamison #Jamison was a manager and songwriter who discovered Wright and was largely responsible for his career success‚ writing most of his early #singles including notable hit That's How Strong My Love Is (better knownbin cover versions by Otis Redding and the Rolling Stones) #Wright and Jamison parted company somewhat acrimoniously later in the decade and it's fair to say that neither was quite as successful #without the other. m j keep is more mysterious; digging around online reveals only a single songwriting credit to that name‚ which is this #one. it could always be a pen name i suppose‚ or perhaps a person known to Jamison who helped with the composition; it's pretty useless to #wonder tho bc I'm unlikely to find out much more. wright himself isn't that well remembered today‚ although his work is sometimes sampled #by hiphop artists‚ and some later bigger artists would name him as an influence. it's understandable; the man had an incredible voice #a rich and emotive delivery which really sells the depth of pain that makes for a great blues song but without ever becoming too much #there's a touch of humour too (the opening lines particularly) #but there's something very simple and very beautiful about those final two lines I've quoted #some great insight into the human experience #wright struggled with addiction and criminal charges in later life which certainly hurt his career #he died‚ much too young‚ in 1980

❧ 》 PODERES: Mana do ar. Através de suas mãos, Max pode moldar o ar de uma forma mais espessa. Este se assemelhará a uma esfera de cor branca, assim solidificando o elemento. Com isso poderá moldar facas, plataformas flutuantes, esferas e até animais, que obviamente seguirão o controle dele. Suas projeções, entretanto, não são tão resistentes quanto algo físico e real, obviamente.

❧ 》 BÊNÇÃO OU MALDIÇÃO: Beleza apaziguante. Dada a relação de Zéfiro com Afrodite no nascimento dela, a deusa abençoou os trejeitos como o sorriso e o olhar de Max, com uma essência capaz de hipnotizar e/ou acalmar quem está ao seu redor, seja qual for o tipo de criatura. Essa passiva faz com que Max não seja visto como ameaça em geral, o que é muito útil em situações que envolvem conflitos menores ou outras ameaças no dia a dia. Foi dada a ele logo após sua chegada ao acampamento, aos doze anos, quando se mostrou uma criança bastante medrosa.

❧ 》 ARMA: Max utiliza um bastão de aço. É uma arma simples, mas foi o item com o qual melhor se adequou após anos e anos de treinamento, onde constatou que abordagens ofensivas não eram sua praia, demonstrando ser muito melhor em defesa e contenção, estilos que são fáceis de executar graças ao uso do bastão. O nome do bastão é Anemoi e é retrátil, podendo ser levado nos bolsos ou nos sapatos de Max.

❧ 》 HISTÓRIA E CONEXÕES

Foi um escândalo para o velho casal Wright, uma dupla de agricultores no interior do interior da Inglaterra, quando a única filha, que nunca havia saído de casa para visitar a cidade grande sem a supervisão dos pais, apareceu grávida. Ela não soube explicar com propriedade o que havia acontecido, já que seus encontros com o formoso homem que aparecia em seus sonhos e entrando por sua janela no meio do amanhecer, eram bons demais para ser verdade, de modo que nunca conseguiu explicar com todas as palavras de onde Maxence poderia ter vindo. 

Até que as coisas se tornaram bastante insustentáveis e ele precisou recorrer ao Acampamento Meio-Sangue após os fatídicos ataques direcionados aos semideuses, tornarem-se cada vez mais intensos. Lá, desenvolveu-se a duras penas: nunca foi o mais corajoso de todos, nem o mais disposto a encerrar conflitos, mas se virou como pôde. Honrou o nome do pai e pensou na mãe durante todos os anos seguidos, sobretudo após a morte dela, cerca de três anos atrás. Permaneceu lá até decidir retornar para sua vida rural no interior da Inglaterra, tendo sido chamado de volta após o advento da nova profecia.

Atualmente, ao regressar para o Acampamento, decidiu colocar toda sua força e seu coração no resgate e na proteção do espaço em que cresceu, tentando assegurar o único lugar que realmente tem para ir e onde ficar, no dia de hoje.

❧ 》 PERSONALIDADE

À primeira vista, Max demonstra ser um homem de postura tranquila, ocupado demais com seus próprios pensamentos para ser capaz de opinar sobre as coisas em geral. Sendo assim, não é tão difícil ficar perto dele: como seu pai, Maxence pode ser interpretado como uma companhia leve e agradável, comparável a um dia fresco no verão ou uma noite aconchegante rente a lareira, no inverno.

Max também é um romântico incurável, plenamente consciente dos corações quebrados que deixou para trás no Acampamento, mas sem deixar de citar as inúmeras vezes em que o seu próprio foi partido, ainda que, em momento algum, tenha deixado de acreditar no amor na forma mais literal possível, ainda que seja meio difícil para ele verbalizar alguns de seus sentimentos. Não por medo de rejeição ou qualquer coisa do tipo, apenas porque costuma ser meio tímido desde que se dá por gente.

Não é lá dos mais inteligentes por falta de vergonha na cara mesmo. Herdou do pai a necessidade de uma vida calma e mansa, então parte do pressuposto de se esforçar o mínimo possível para atingir o maior resultado possível. De vez em quando dá certo, de vez em quando, não. E pra ele tá tudo bem: contanto que não seja perturbado ou não saia machucado, dá pra resolver. Maxence é ótimo de lábia, aliás. Um ludibriador quase nato!

Em se tratando de conflitos, ele se metia e se mete em algumas confusões, mas no geral, consegue fugir das presepadas em que se enfia graças a benção que Afrodite lhe conferiu: basta um sorriso, um toque ou um olhar de Max, para que a pessoa ao seu lado se acalme e se sinta tranquila. Ele usa essas habilidades tanto para se safar, quanto para ajudar os amigos, estes que são parte fundamental da vida de Maxence: sem uma família de sangue agora que todos faleceram, o pessoal do Acampamento é tudo o que lhe resta.

Bissexual, 1, 87 de altura, falante de inglês e francês principalmente, mas capaz de entender todos os idiomas do lado Ocidental do mundo (que está sob o domínio de Zéfiro);

E para ele, tanto faz se tá indo pra cima ou pra baixo, contanto que não atrapalhe seus planos.

Assorted headcanons about Phoenix and the seven year gap because it lives rent free in my head and I must yell

-I made another post about it but Edgeworth was the first to hear about State v Enigmar and Maya was the first to see Phoenix in person after he's disbarred (and the first to meet Trucy)

-Originally Phoenix and Trucys situation was just him fostering her at first, not an immediate adoption of her, largely cause Phoenix was hoping for her sake that Zak would eventually come back to AT LEAST see her, but after like- year 2 of Zak being gone, it turned into an actual adoption of her and she legally became Trucy Wright (although she had started going by that name a few months beforehand)

-The first year for Phoenix was- Well Rough To Say The Least, he ended up getting into a l o t of fights with both Maya and Edgeworth and started really pushing them away (never in front of Trucy but she could tell something was going on) largely cause in his mindset at the time he didn't really think they understood what was going on (which he very much realized was VERY stupid considering who he was talking to) and eventually it ended in both Maya and Edgeworth staging something of an intervention and being like "hey man your being a huge dick to both of us we're trying to help you through this but also whats going on in that head", they ended up finally actually Talking and settled things for once, things got better after that! slowly yet surely

-After the bar association trial, Phoenix was the first to approach Kristoph for believing him, and that where their friendship started (Kristoph was going to just do regular ol stalking instead but decided that being "friends" with him would probably be easier here so he went with it)

- personally my least favourite interpretation of the 7yg is where Phoenix knows that kristoph was the one who framed him all along, like idk it's just not very interesting to me, it's kinda boring ghjkhlj I absolutely where people are coming from with it though but idk hgjkhl it's lame to me

- Even though Phoenix was no clue whether or not he's going to become a lawyer again and pretty much had adapted to his new life, he always has that little thought in his mind that if he becomes one again, everything in his life will get better instantly, he'll be useful again (spoiler alert, it doesn't immediately fix his life! he has Depression)

-Around year 2 was when Edgeworth started bringing over Phoenix and Trucy to Europe (in my mind he spends about half the year in Europe and Half in America), while he DID give the reason that he needed Phoenixs help with a case or two (and that wasn't an outright lie) largely he just wanted to spend time with the two of them and didn't know how else to express it, by year 5 Phoenix caught on to what he was doing and found it VERY funny, after that their trips were much less law focused

-Phoenix met Athena in Europe in Year 3 and kept in contact with her until she arrived in America, and oh BOY can she tell he is very upset

-Eventually he does go to therapy like- after DD, at the insistence of Athena and Trucy (it takes him a bit cause he's one stubborn man but he gets there eventually!)

-He started growing out his hair and realized that he did actually like this hair longer so he kept it!

-While he does not regret making Apollo use the forged ace in court, he does hope that one day they'll be able to mend things since he knows it hurt Apollo a lot, he cares about Apollo but is giving Apollo the space he needs to make that choice on his own, he's very proud of both him and Athena

-Trucy gave him her second earring so they could match! He nearly sobbed when she did that hgjkhl He did have to get his ears pierced to wear it but dw he was very brave about it

It was so sad writing this because thinking about Trucy getting bullied hurts me TvT This is short and I'm sorry for it, but I really didn't know what to write and this work caused me to lose imagination more than once to write in general, I'm so very sorry

So, I hope I've written all the emotion well; I hope you'll enjoy! <3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trucy Wright is saved from bullies by her S/O:

It was always like this.

It didn't matter if it was during breaks between school lessons, on her way home, during her shows rehearsals or her live ones, Trucy was never alone - in the worst way possible.

Spoiled, fraud, naïve, delusional - she was called like this and more so many times a day that her mind sometimes forgot her name.

It started when some of her classmates asked her to show them some magic tricks, complimenting her hard work in everything she was doing.

Of course, some people didn't like that -call them jealous, ignorant, stupid or just disrespectful- and started to bother Trucy, mocking every achievement she conquered.

What she thought and hoped would last for some time, took a regular seat in her life instead; if she answered correctly to an answer she was a nerd, then a loser if she failed a test, an attention-seeker if she talked to someone from another class, anti-social if she didn't.

Wrong or right, everything she did was scolded, they always highlighted the worst aspect of it.

Trucy learned when she was a child how to handle the kinds of emotions that these events made her feel, how to bottle them up and keep a smile for everyone around her and to try and convince herself that she was strong, she could do it on her own.

That's why no one ever noticed.

Phoenix was the only one who immediately noticed how her daughter would isolate herself even when Apollo and Athena were with them at the office, but when he tried to talk to her about it, she just smiled and told him she was fine apart from some school stress.

He didn't want to play the part of the invasive father, the one who asked and asked until the answers he wanted reached his ears, so he asked someone he knew Trucy trusted as much as she trusted him.

Of course, they noticed too. How she slowly stopped to tell them how her day went on their way home, how she stopped bringing her favorite deck of cards to show them some new tricks and many other small things that made Trucy the bubbly girl she was.

They talked to her, making her realize that she had to react and show those bullies that whatever they said or did didn't touch her. She didn't have to become like them, envious, mischievous or evil; ignore them, ask her friends for support and always opt for a smile. They remained close to her while she tried to do that, waiting for her after school if they finished earlier their own lessons and always checked on her mood and health.

And, it worked, actually.

They stopped talking badly about her, thanks also to the other classmates who started to call them out, they stopped ripping her books after a teacher yelled at them and a very menacing blue lawyer glared at their group with death in his eyes each time he came to pick up his daughter.

"You think you're strong?" "You always need someone else to cover your back" "It's easy to say you hold shows in theaters when others do all the work for you"

Her blurred vision didn't help at all while she searched for her safety contact to ask for help; she was walking back home with unrequired company- like always.

This time, she understood quickly that a smile wouldn't help that much after a kick hit her legs. When they grabbed her backpack, arms or clothes, she pushed them away, not being able to hit them in any kind of way. That was until she felt her scalp burn and almost fell backward, wiggling from the grip she hit someone's leg; that triggered, however, a pull to her hair that made her back meet with a wall.

The only thing she felt after a while was air being pulled out from her lungs as someone pulled her scarf tightly around her slim neck. She closed her eyes and continued to push them away, free herself and avoid visible bruises. How would she explain that to Phoenix afterward.

They waited for Trucy outside her school; she told them that Phoenix invited them for lunch with Maya, Apollo and Athena, so they hurried up once classes finished and waited. They realized Trucy probably forgot when just the staff remained inside the building, so they started walking towards Phoenix's house.

That's when their blood started to boil; it took a few meters ahead to spot Trucy's cape and the same individuals she talked about these last weeks, and what helped recognize them was the rather unfriendly way they were treating her.

Trucy regained the courage to open her eyes again when she heard that familiar voice screaming against her bullies, pushing them away and finally freeing her neck from the grip of her scarf. No one there knew how they resisted beating them on the spot, calling them every possible way to make them feel as bad as they made Trucy feel, if not worse; to remind them of what they really were, how insignificant and vile.

They didn't even wait for them to go away, pulling Trucy away, somewhere safer to try and soothe her, speak to her; but that wasn't the ideal moment. Trucy slowly calmed down from the shock, but did not utter a word.

Once home, she just closed her in the bathroom, processing what just happened in the silence. Useless to say that once Phoenix learned everything, he knocked on the door softly, trying to get his daughter out of there and talk, doing his best to suppress his anger.

For once, hearing someone cry his lungs out was a positive sign; Trucy finally found the courage to let herself go, let off all the steam inside her while torturing her father's shirt and almost attempting to merge with his chest.

They waited, already thinking of ways to pay back those bullies as they deserved. When Trucy finished explaining the full situation, she gave herself a break, washing her face and dragging them to her room; lunch could wait.

She occupied her bed and used them as her pillow; her sobs could still be heard from time to time, her grip on the pillow was more than strong, so it was their hug on her. Only when her breath stabilized and she fell asleep they could relax, too. The gentle strokes on her hair didn't stop and they patiently waited for her times of recover to then find all together a solution.

Even though, Phoenix was already filling in the documents for a legal complaint for every one of those being.

Can multiple spells travel down a single Kerth-line at one? Or do they block each other? And what happens if, for example, two wrights try to move an object in opposite directions? Does the Kerth just math out the resulting vector or would that result in them fighting each other somehow. Or does the Kerth just delete the conflicting inputs (and/or their sources)?

Every rited wright has a unique id. Any material involved in an active spell has that id assigned to it, preventing other wrights from manipulating it until the spell is over and the material is released. So you'd never see two wrights playing simultaneous tug o' war over a boulder; it would be more of a see-saw.

Multiple spells can indeed travel down a single khert-line. In pymary, that's how parries are performed: you intercept an opponent's ranged attack by putting one of your own on the same line. It's never been talked about in the comic, but characters have been shown doing it. There's a flashy panel back in the earlier chapters of Duane and Quigley fighting, and you can see the flash of Green v Blue when Duane parries one of Quigley's blasts. The far more skilled maneuver is to catch their spell, which requires precisely casting upon their ranged attack at the moment of instantiation - the moment it leaves the khert-line. In this way you claim it as your own.
