I remembered to make the double batch banana bread (by telling the kids, I made sure I had a reminder 😉) and decided to try homemade butter. It's too expensive for every day, but om nom nom! AND we have buttermilk for buttermilk coffee cake.
I just made butter in my stand mixer!!!! Like I understand the science behind it but like I can't believe it's butter. I feel like I just did black magic
Here's how to make butter at home, this one is unsalted.
Obtain cream, I personally like full cream but I would recommend light for people who are lactose sensitive as lactose free cream doesn't turn into butter good.
Place cream of choice into stand mixer.
Turn the mixer on high. The cream should start to separate and form clumps after a period of time.
Continue to mix until it starts to stick to the whisk.
Stop mixer. Grab a clean tea towel, Mulsin, or cheese cloth and place it over a bowl.
Pour liquid into the bowl with the cloth of choice.
Twist the cloth until all the buttermilk is in the bowl.
Place the cream in air tight container or wrap in baking paper.
Now you have Butter. During the whisking process you can add salt.
