raven-san, can we please have a wedding crashing where jade needs to marry this girl from another crime family to consolidate power and become the next head of the leech mob :)) but floyd's like I'M BORED and annoyed that his brother's being snatched up by a random chick, so he asks basketball bros, and azul, to help save jade?

This one is super long, so I added some extra sections and placed the rest of the wedding crashing below the cut!

***Spoilers for Jamil and Floyd’s Unique Magic!!***

"I object to this wedding...!"

Pre-Wedding Jitters

A call comes for the twins in the dead of night, without warning. It’s their parents with exciting news: they’re naming Jade as the next Don Leech. The catch? The Leech mob’s in the middle of a merger with the Worm mob, and he’ll have to marry Don Worm’s daughter to secure the deal.

Jade, ever the dutiful son, is honored by his future title and calmly agrees to the arrangement. On the other hand, Floyd’s annoyed by the idea, and can’t keep quiet about his irritation. He calls out to his twin in the darkness.

“... Ne, Jade.”

“Ee, Floyd?”

“Are you really okay with going through with this? You’re just gonna do what they said? Even though you don’t know the Worms at all? Even if you’ve never met that girl before?”

“It is a request coming directly from father and mother. How could I refuse them? And, furthermore... If I do not undertake this task, then it would fall to you, the next choice to inherit the title of Don Leech. I cannot allow that to come to pass--fufu. You do so enjoy your freedom, yes?”

“... Jade, you’re so dumb sometimes. What’ll happen to your freedom, then? Will you get so busy with being the big boss and being married... that you won’t have time to play anymore?”

“... Perhaps. But that is a sacrifice I am willing to make.”

That thought doesn’t sit well with Floyd--not at all.

“I trust that you will make your own fun of the situation,” Jade reassures him. “You always do.”

As the weeks pass, Floyd sees less and less of Jade around, since he has to prepare for the wedding. Jade reassures him that he’s doing just fine, but Floyd can see right through his lies. He can tell that Jade’s more frazzled than usual--there’s a lingering to his words, and a longing in his eyes, savoring every last bit of autonomy he has before his fate is forever sealed.

Floyd hates it. He hates being lied to by his own brother, and he hates feeling powerless to stop the wedding. Floyd’s so angry that he develops this murderous aura in the weeks leading up to the wedding, which makes everyone around him shy away.

One day, he gets sick of being in the water--it’s a reminder of the wedding to come--so Floyd plays basketball on land to vent. He ends up chomping down so hard that he deflates a ball, then dunks another basketball so hard, he breaks the net.

He sprawls out on the ground and angrily shouts at the sky. His basketball bonks him on the head... and that’s when an idea hits him: maybe he can’t stop the wedding alone, but no one said he couldn’t phone some friends.

Assembling the Dream Team

Floyd first dials up Azul, who agrees to help after some whining and signing a contract agreeing to pay Azul handsomely for his services (... although truthfully, the octopus does want to help Jade, but doesn't immediately agree to do it because of his pride as a businessman).

Floyd also calls his old basketball buddies for help! Jamil and Ace are much more adamant than Azul, but Floyd strongarms them into pitching in. ("Umihebi-kun, Kani-chan, if you don't help me rescue Jade, I'll get suuuper mad, you know? I don't think you'll like me when I get mad. Moray eels are strong hunters, so I don’t think it’ll be a problem for me to track you guys down and give you a good squeeze~" "OKAY, OKAY, WE'LL DO IT!!")

Together, the four boys meet up to scheme of a way to disrupt the wedding without jeopardizing the Leech mob's future. Floyd actively leads the discussion, allowing his hidden genius to come to the surface.

Ace doesn’t contribute much to the strategy (laid out by Azul), but he does keep the spirit up with some jokes. Meanwhile, Jamil provides snacks for them when they work late into the night (though he keeps passing semi-glares to Azul whenever the octopus compliments him or tries to be friendly).

In preparation for the crashing, Azul brews some potions to give Jamil and Ace so they can take on temporary merforms. After all, the wedding will be underwater, in the Coral Sea, and they’ll need tail fins.

The date of destiny draws ever closer... and Floyd's never been so excited to cause chaos in his whole life.

The Crashing - Team Azul & Jamil

They split into two pairs on the day of the wedding—Azul and Jamil, and Floyd and Ace. Floyd uses his position as the future son-in-law to Don Worm to arrange a meeting between himself and the don... except Azul and Jamil will show up instead.

Don Worm shows up to the meeting in his finest clothes (which is very little, given that he’s a merman), sounding a bit annoyed the sudden summoning. “Make this quick, I’ve got to go see my baby girl’s big day... Wait. You fellas aren’t the F. Leech boy.”

“No, we aren’t, sir. We are his representatives... Proxies, if you will,” Azul insists, giving his warmest and most welcoming smile. He uses a tentacle to tug on Jamil’s tail, forcing him to smile too. “You see, there is an important business matter we needed to discuss with you on behalf of Floyd.”

“Hoh? And what would that be?”

“I believe my business associate would be better off explaining the matter than myself.” Azul gestures to Jamil, who has his head down.

“Oi, what’s with you? Don’t you know who I am, boy? It’s rude to not look your elders in the eye when they are speaking to you!! Show me the respect I deserve, from one professional to another!!”

“My apologies, sir.” Jamil looks up, locking eyes with the mob boss. “... Is this better?”

“Yes, that’s...”

“Snake Whisper.”

Don Worm suddenly goes glassy-eyed and slack-jawed. Azul claps at the sight, showering his partner with compliments. “As expected of the talented Jamil-san! Even one look from you can bring a mafia lord to his downfall. Truly, your Unique Magic is most impressive!”

“Save your flattery for later.”

Azul’s lips curl into a smirk as he whips out a golden contract from his briefcase and offers it to the don. “Now then, if you wouldn’t mind, sir... sign on the dotted line.”

The Crashing - Team Floyd & Ace

Ace and Floyd rush to the wedding venue, their tails cutting through the water like knives as they swim at a breakneck pace. Ace can barely keep up with Floyd, who surges far ahead.

“H-Hey, should we really be barging in like this?! Don’t mob families have weapons and other dangerous stuff? Is there a backdoor we can take instead? Hello?! Floyd-senpai, are you listening to me?!” (He isn’t.)

The open, underwater comes into view, and Floyd barrels in without any hesitation, tearing right through some decorations and knocking over the wedding cake with his tail. A loud CRASH! echoes through the waters, drawing eyes to him.

Jade stares at his brother from the altar—wide eyed, but a mirthful smile on his lips. Floyd waves to him, and then to his mom and dad in the crowd of guests. “Hiii, Jade! I’m here to pick you up now.”

The Worm girl starts sobbing, wailing something about how her special day’s been ruined, and where is her papa to put an end to this? At her signal, security guards, and some of the rougher looking guests—Worm family associates—lunge at Floyd, claws and teeth out. A few of them have produced wands, and what seem to be guns—loaded with harpoons.

“Bind the Heart!” Objects and stray magic go flying in all directions, hitting both people and wedding decorations. Cloth tears, columns crumble—but it’s one man against many, and he can only bind so many hearts before the blot starts to stack.

Ace makes it just in time, sending their foes and their weapons hurtling through the water with a blast of wind. “This is why I said to be careful, dammit! Your Unique Magic’s such a crapshoot—don’t just use it whenever, or you’ll be sushi!!!”

“Ahahahah! Kani-chan’s being all heroic today! That’s so cute. Don’t worry, I can play my part, too...!!”

Using his tail, Floyd hooks around a drifting merman and chucks him straight into another. They collide with a CRACK!—but Floyd barely registers it. He’s already bolting off, grabbing heads and smashing them together, slicing through others like a knife through butter.

There’s a crazed, frenzied look to him, gleeful laughter cutting through the waters and mixing with the Worm bride’s screeching. I forgot how scary Floyd-senpai can be, Ace realizes. (Jade and Floyd’s parents are cheering for him from their seats.)

Jade looks quite proud of his brother, even laughing along to the brutal slaughterfest. His bride stares at him incredulously. “Stop that brute! He’s ruining MY special day!!”

“No,” Jade replies calmly. “I don’t think I will. This is far too amusing to let it end so soon.”

She lets out a frustrated scream and launches herself at her groom, hands going for his throat. The Worm girl is slammed back with a strong hit to her gut, courtesy of Jade’s tail.

She flies back, slamming into a column—and feels a tail wrapping around her and squeezing tight. Constricting her to the point where it was difficult to breathe. A livid mermaid glares down at her, teeth bared in a snarl.

“No one lays a hand on my children,” Mama Leech declares. “No one.”

From the corner of her eye, the Worm girl can see that Jade has cast off his bow tie and flitted over to Floyd, embracing happily in a battlefield adorned with red ribbons trailing through the water. Her vision is abruptly blocked off by a broad-shouldered merman wearing a grimace.

“Now then, what shall we do with this one?” Papa Leech wonders aloud—though from his tone of voice, he has nothing good in store.

The Aftermath

“You’re all fish bait when daddy hears about this...!” the Worm girl warns, her words raspy. “Th-The merger won’t go through...! There’ll be war between the Leeches and the Worms...!”

A loud throat clearing comes from behind. “Fortunately, that won’t be happening.”

Azul and Jamil make their appearance, the octopus merman smugly showcasing a contract. “Ashengrotto—Azul Ashengrotto, legal and business extraordinaire at your service, Don Leech and Lady Leech.”

Papa Leech grunts. “What’s that you’ve got there?”

“This?” Azul’s smirk widens. “Why, it’s a prenuptial stating that, in the case that an act of violence is enacted by the bride toward the groom, the marriage is considered null and void... and the bride’s family assets are to be claimed by the groom. Signed by Don Worm himself.”

“Wh-What?! Impossible!! How did you get daddy to sign such a stupid deal?!”

“Oh,” Jamil says nonchalantly, “we have our ways.”

“So... Uh, Jade-senpai’s still gonna be the next Don Leech?! And he’s gonna be in charge of an even bigger and richer family... How is that any better than the situation before?! You’re just giving him more resources for committing crimes!”

At that moment, two hands come down on Ace’s shoulders, causing him to freeze up.

“Kani-chaaaaan! Everyone!! Thanks so much for your help~”

“Yes, you have my sincerest thanks, Ace-san, Jamil-san... Azul.”

“It is my pleasure to assist such VIP clients. Ah, but there remains the matter of my promised payment—” (Jamil and Ace internally groan at Azul’s words.)

“Payment?” Don Leech scoffs. “After the ballsy operation you boys pulled off today... I’m more inclined to give you job offers instead of a one time sum. How do you lads feel about being hired as the Leech family’s personal lawyer, interrogator, and... well, whatever the heart one is good at.”

“My, my! Such a generous and lucrative offer—“

“There is no way I’m accepting that, especially if that means working with Azul.”

“Oi, I’ll have you know I’m good at lots of stuff!! I’m the one that saved Floyd’s tail fins, is no one gonna acknowledge that?!”

“You did amazing, sweetie!!” Mama Leech chirps—her tail grip tightening until the Worm girl passes out. Ace leaps back in fright. “As a reward, why don’t you let me give you a hug?”

“S-STAY BACK!!”

“Ahahahah! Everyone’s getting along so well, Jade. Isn’t this fun? You wouldn’t be able to enjoy this if you had gone to get hitched.”

“Fufufu. You are correct, Floyd. How sad it would have been if I were to miss out on touching moments such as this. From the bottom of my heart... I thank you for thinking of me, and for rushing to my aid. I could not have asked for a better brother.”

... What Floyd doesn’t know is that this was all according to keikaku Jade’s own machinations. He would never take the order to marry lying down—but he couldn’t outright defy it without immediate consequences, either.

Thank the Great Seven Jade has reliable puppets friends to help him out of a pinch. I’ll be certain to put the additional funds we have gained to good use... Perhaps to start a little mushroom farm.

5. 5 tv shows that cheer you up

I previously answered:

There are some shows I like watching, but they honestly stress me out a little because they’re scary or the characters are awful people, but a lot of episodes of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia will make me laugh.

Bob’s Burgers always gets a giggle from me. I love the family’s interactions with one another.

I’ve enjoyed watching Nailed It - a cake decorating competition show, and the results are always funny (and relatable, honestly)!

I really love watching some of the old cartoons I grew up watching, too! Classic Spongebob (seasons 1-3) are always a hit. So many iconic moments.

Another old cartoon, Hey Arnold! is a great goofy, feel-good show. I adore Arnold’s relationship with his grandparents in particular. My husband got me the boxed set a couple years back as a gift, and I was tickled to relive my childhood. ^-^

Oh, and to add a new one, I was tickled when I went to my parents' and discovered that they did a reboot of Supermarket Sweep! I loved that game show as a kid!

20. A skill you’ve picked up in the past few years.

I've been getting back into doodling/drawing, and I've been taking it more seriously this year. Here's a comparison of the way I drew a peregrine falcon in 2018:

I know I still have much to learn, but I feel like I'm better at breaking things down into shapes and adding texture.

29. A favourite easy recipe: 5 ingredients or less, or takes less than 30 min to make

I love Japanese flavors and I've been on a kick making kani salad. I tweaked the recipe from the sushi restaurant that I really liked, guessing what was inside.

Kani Salad - Durotos style!

1 package imitation crab meat (leg style preferred) 1/2 large cucumber or 2 small greenhouse salad cucumbers Mayonnaise (Japanese style Kewpie is best. If you only have American like Hellman's, you can add 2Tbsp rice vinegar, 1 Tbsp sugar, and about 1 tsp dashi powder, and a splash of Dijon mustard.) Sriracha sauce to taste Furikake Seasoning (optional, I use shrimp flavor)

Panko breadcrumbs

Grate or finely chop the crab meat and add to a large mixing bowl.

Chop cucumber into small chunks

Stir together and add enough mayo and sriracha until slightly creamy. Splash some furikake seasoning on top (around 1Tbsp or to taste) and mix in. Toasted sesame seeds are a great addition, too!

Lastly, right before serving, mix in panko breadcrumbs for a bit of crunch. You can start with like a 1/4 of a cup and go from there to see what you like.

And that's it! Simple and delicious! If you're making it ahead of time, add the cucumbers before serving to keep it crisp and crunchy! ^-^

If you're in more of a sweets mood, this simple flan recipe has been my go-to. I adjust the baking time to 45 minutes due to the climate here, but if you insert a butter knife and it comes out clean, it's ready! I always used to be intimidated by the idea of making it, but it's really quick and easy!

Sa Muling Paglipad ng Pupugayo

Bunso ako sa apat na magkakapatid. Tatlong babae ang nauna sa akin, pagkatapos ay ako, ang bunso at nag-iisang lalaki. Medyo malalaki ang pagitan ng mga edad namin kung kaya’t bata pa lang ay hindi na ako malapit sa mga kapatid ko. May kani-kaniya na silang lakad sa buhay ng ako ay magkahuwisyo. Si Nanay lamang ang siya kong madalas kausap, si nanay lamang ang madalas kong kabiruan.

Maliit lamang ang aming barrio kaya’t halos ang lahat ng tao ay magkakakilala. Lima kaming magkakaibigan, madalas sila ang kasama ko sa paglalaro. Magkakasama kami sa paghabi ng aming kamusmusan sa malawak na kabukiran, sa mga dayami at pilapil at sa mga hitik na hitik sa bunga na mga punong mangga. Hindi na ako mapakali sa tuwing sasapit ang buwan ng Abril. Maghapon na namang makakapagbilad sa ilalim ng araw at makakaligo sa de-motor na patubig sa bukid.

Tila yata kaybagal ng pagsulong ng araw.Ilang tulog na nga lang ba at magpapasahan na sa paaralan? Hindi ko na talaga mahintay ang pagsapit ng tag-araw. Makakapagpalipad na naman kasi kami ng pupugayo. Kaysarap pagmasdan ng aking Mariposa sa bughaw na kalangitan. Ito ang pinakamaganda, pinakamakulay sa lahat ng pupugayo, bata man o matanda ang nagpapalipad. Ito ang pinakamasaya kong araw, kapag nakikita kong namumukod tangi ang ganda ng aking Mariposa. Madalas ay nakakaligtaan namin ang oras ng tanghalian na siyang nagpapagalit sa aking ina. Sa aming grupo, ako ang pinakamaraming lisa at kuto, kung kaya madalas, tuwing bakasyon ay kinakalbo ako, na s’ya ko namang pinaka hindi naiibigan. Nagiging kahawig ko kasi ang bata sa pabalat ng garapon ng isang peanut butter.

Hindi ko maintindihan ang disenyo ng pupugayo ni Samboy. Puti lamang ito at may bilog na pula sa gitna. Pero tuwang- tuwa ang tatay n’ya, na balikbayan galing Japan.

Agila naman ang kay Bert. Meron pa itong tuka at matatalas na kuko… Si Bert ay sadyang malikot at s’yang mahilig makipagtalo sa amin.

Nakakatakot ang kay Tammy. Paniki ito, ngunit sa tingin ko ay mas kahawig ng manananggal lalo na kung pagmamasdan sa malayo.

Hugis medalya naman ang kay Andoy. Champion ang tawag n’ya dito… Ano kaya ang champion doon? Sa lahat, ang pupugayo n’ya ang pinakamababa ang lipad. Ngunit sangang-dikit kami ni Andoy at ako pa ang nauunang mapikon kapag pinupuna ang lipad ng pupugayo n’ya.

Iba talaga ang angking rikit ni Mariposa… Napakarami nitong kulay at tila may sariling buhay sa kalangitan. Para itong sumasayaw at hindi nababahala sa paglakas ng hangin. Tinitiis ko ang pagdilim ng aking paningin, likha ng matagal na pagtitig sa kalangitan. Hindi ako nagsasawa sa pagtingin sa mga lumilipad na, lalo na ang pagmasdan ang pagsasayaw ni Mariposa. Mapalad ako na magaling si lolo Sendong. Tiyuhin s’ya ng aking ina na isang matandang binata. S’ya ang lumikha kay Mariposa. Tinanong n’ya ako kung ano ang gusto kong disenyo. Sa hindi ko mawaring kadahilanan, bigla kong nasambit na minsan, iniisip ko na ako’y nakalilipad, tulad ng isang paru-paro.

Dalawang buwan ko lamang nakikita sa loob ng isang taon ang aking ama. Ito ay sa tuwing dadaong pabalik sa Pilipinas ang kanyang barko na kadalasan ay tuwing buwan ng bakasyon sa paaralan.

Madalas ay sa sabungan siya nagpapalipas ng araw. Komite rin s’ya at isponsor sa taunang palaro ng softball sa aming lugar. Sinasama n’ya ako sa mga laro, ngunit hindi ko kailanman nagustuhan ang softball, kaya’t lagi lamang akong katabi n’ya kapag s’ya ang nakatoka na mag-commentator.

Lumilipad ang diwa ko kahit pa maingay si tatay sa tabi ko. Naka-mic kasi s’ya at malalaki ang speakers sa paligid ng softball field. Iniisip ko palagi na hindi kumpleto ang tropa, baka tinutukso na naman si Andoy dahil kay Champion at matamlay ang kalangitan dahil wala ang kanilang bida— si Mariposa. Naisip ko tuloy na aayain ko minsan si tatay sa bukid upang maipagmalaki ko ang aking natatanging pupugayo.

Kaiga-igaya ang ihip ng hangin noong araw ng Sabado na iyon. Sabik na akong ipakita sa tatay ko ang aking pupugayo. Tiyak na matutuwa s’ya dito. Balita ko ay nakahiligan din ng tatay ko ang magpalipad ng pupugayo noong kabataan n’ya.

Tinatawag na ako ni Andoy, dala na n’ya si Champion. Nagpaalam ang tatay ko na mauna na ako sa bukid at dadaan lamang s’ya sa softball upang iabot ang mga bago n’yang bili na bola. Nawika ko sa sarili ko na mas mainam nga iyon. Lumilipad na si Mariposa at banayad na sumasayaw sa langit kapag nakita ito ni tatay.

Maliksi kaming kumilos ni Andoy at kanya-kanya naming pinalipad ang aming pupugayo. Naabutan namin ang iba pa naming kaibigan na nakapagpa-alagwa na. Hayun! Napakagaling talaga ni Mariposa! Lipad agad, at gusto pang kumawala sa aking kamay. Sanay na ako sa pagpapa-alagwa at paghihigpit ng pisi nito. Ako at si Mariposa ay tila ba iisa.

Ilang saglit pa, sa di kalayuan, nakita ko si tatay.

“Mariposa, magpakitang gilas ka”, nawika ko sa aking sarili.

Saglit s’yang huminto at kinausap ang tatay ni Samboy. Kapwa sila patingin-tingin sa langit. Siguro’y napansin na n’ya si Mariposa. Kaya’t lalo ko pang pinagbuti ang pagpapalipad nito.

Hindi ko inaasahan ang sumunod na kilos ng aking ama.

Hinablot n’ya sa akin ang bungkos ng pisi at pinakawalan si Mariposa. Dahil sa pagkabigla at pagkalito, saglit akong natigilan, ngunit ng ako’y nakabawi na at akmang hahabulin ang tuluy-tuloy na pag-alagwa ng pisi, kagyat n’ya naman akong pinigilan. Pinagmasdan ko ang kanyang mukha na may pagtatanong, ngunit galit ang nabanaag kong sagot mula sa kanya.

Nawala na sa aking paningin si Mariposa. Tuluyan na itong nilipad ng hangin sa kawalan. Kinaladkad akong pauwi ni tatay. Mahigpit ang kapit niya sa aking braso at leeg. Sinubukan kong kumawala, ngunit sadyang malakas si tatay.

Pinapasok ako ni tatay sa aking silid at pinagbihis ng damit. Sila naman ni nanay ay nag-usap. Galit si tatay. Ngunit batid ko na mas masidhi ang galit ko, kasabay din ng pagkalito. Iyon ang unang pagkakataon na hindi ako umiyak kahit pa ako ay nasaktan.

Doon ko lamang napagtanto, na iba pala ako. Hindi pala ako ang inaasahan ng tatay ko. Ayaw n’ya kay Mariposa. Ngunit si Mariposa at ako ay iisa. Mali pala ang inakala ko sa mundo. Ang akala ko kahit ano ka pa, malaya kang mabuhay ng ayun sa iyong kagustuhan. Hindi pala palaging makulay, maganda at masaya. Hindi pala tanggap na may mas malalim kang pagtangi sa kabaro mong kaibigan. Doon ko nabatid ang pait ng panunukso. Ang akala ko, ang mundo ay tulad ng isang Mariposa - masaya, maganda, at makulay.

Noong tag-araw din na iyon, kapansin-pansin ang pagtamlay ng pakikitungo sa akin ng aking ama. Hindi na rin ako malimit biruin at paglaruan ng aking ina. Namatay si lolo noong sumunod na tag-araw kaya’t wala ng gaganyak sa akin na magpalipad pa.

Dinaanan ako ni Andoy, gabi matapos ang hapunan noong tag-araw na iyon bitbit si Mariposa,. Sumabit pala ito sa isang punong mangga. Nasira na ito. Wala na ang dati nitong ganda. Nawasak na si Mariposa, ngunit hindi ang pagkakaibigan namin ni Andoy.

Ignis’ Favorite Foods (And What They Say About Him)

1. Fluffy Chiffon Cake

This is my favorite of Ignis’ favorites. Chiffon cake is one of the bets cakes. I it’s light, airy and not too sweet. It’s also one of the newest--it has only been around since the 1920s. An American insurance salesman invented the cake, but he carefully guarded the recipe. He served the cake at a chain of restaurants in Hollywood (The Brown Derby) where it became popular with celebrities. It was eventually sold to General Mills and the recipe was released nationwide in 1947. It was backed by a big marketing campaign that made it a hit (source).

Ignis initially seems like a man who isn’t much for desserts and sweets, so this favorite surprised me, but I immediately found it endearing. This no nonsense, hard working badass loves chiffon cake. After a little investigation, I discovered that Japan has its own unique take on chiffon cake that may help explain Ignis’ love for it. Japanese Chiffon cake is very similar to the traditional American recipe, but it’s often prepared in different pans and sliced like the one yousee in game (check out this guide). It is also prepared as a cupcake--like these Hokkaido chiffon cupcakes.

It’s easy to imagine Ignis coming across one of those Hokkaido style Chiffon cupcakes at an Insomnia coffee shop. Maybe he frequently stopped at a coffee place that sold them (we know he’s a coffee addict). It makes me happy to think of Ignis enjoying a piece of this cake with a cup of coffee. It is an uncomplicated pleasure that he richly deserves.

2. Breaded Cutlet with Tomato

This dish looks a lot like Japanese chicken Katsu. Chicken katsu is similar to Western schnitzel dishes. It’s got a tasty, crunchy, panko exterior and is often served with a tart sauce (the Japanese version seems to be served with curry quite often). The FFXV version includes a Lucian tomato sauce. I wonder if this dish is a bit of a “comfort food” back in Insomnia. I can imagine Ignis eating a dish like this a lot when he was growing up. It’s hearty, but somehow light and no doubt one of the few dishes involving vegetables that Noctis would readily eat.

3. Fisherman’s Favorite Paella

Paella is a classic (and delicious) Spanish dish (specifically from Valencia). The word “paella” is derived from the Spanish word for pan -- a reference to the special kind of pan used for paella. The foundation of a paella dish is saffron infused rice. The aromatic saffron makes it delicious and gives it the distinctive yellow hue. There are many kinds of ingredients you can put into a paella--chorizo, chicken, seafood--it all depends on the variety of paella you want.

Ignis’ favorite paella is a seafood version. Seafood paella is definitely one of the more popular forms. All kinds of seafood can be used, but it’s traditional to include some shellfish (like the mussels you see in the photo of Iggy’s favorite). Paella is a hearty, aromatic dish that is very popular worldwide. Ignis’ preferred version, though, speaks of someone with slightly more expensive tastes (though that depends greatly on what part of the world you live in).

This dish is acquired by ordering it at the Mother of Pearl restaurant. Given Ignis’ penchant for seafood, it’s not surprising one of his favorite dishes comes from one of the best seafood restaurants on Eos. When you visit Galdin Quay, Ignis will “idle” around the Mother of Pearl, watching Coctura cook. Occasionally, I’ve seen players suggest Ignis has a “crush” on Coctura, but I think this is a professional sort of interest--one chef admiring another.

4. Horntooth Meatpie

I know Ignis only has a British accent in the EN version of the game, but this meat pie is a very Anglo choice. You get the recipe for this dish by observing a female hunter eating it outside the Meldacio General Store (I’m always amused by scenes like this--4 guys staring at you while you eat). The fact that it’s a hunter favorite suggests this is a very hearty dish. This fave is just more evidence that Ignis isn’t particularly snobbish about food.

5. Tomalley-Filled Dumplings

I thought I knew a lot about food going into FFXV, but I had never eaten “tomalley” before and didn’t have a very good idea of what it was. Some seafood fans probably already know this, but tomalley is actually the pancreas/liver of a cooked shellfish (oftentimes a lobster). It has a soft green color and, according to Cook’s Illustrated, is valued for its creamy texture and intense flavor. It’s typically used in sauces or in compound butter. I was surprised to discover that some people believe it's not safe to eat. This is due to the fact that tomalley ingestion can sometimes lead to the contraction of “paralytic shellfish poisoning”, but evidently it’s mainly a risk during red tides. Ignis likes to live on the wild side! In the JP version, the dish references “kani miso’ which loosely translates to “crab brain”. The “kani miso” however refers to the same thing tomalley does (a green paste of innards). Maybe it feels better say you are eating a crab brain instead of a mish mash of its organs? In any case, it’s also considered a delicacy in Japan.

I think this dish further confirms that Ignis has a refined palate and a taste for expensive seafood. Someone who frequently eats lobster could very easily develop a taste for the rarer bits of that celebrated crustacean. Noctis even jokes that Ignis should be thrilled when they fight giant crabs with bone crushing pincers (but Ignis replies “what they have gained in size they will have lost in flavor”). Apparently Ignis has a shellfish reputation.

To unlock the Tomalley-Filled Dumplings, you have to read Oric’s Culinary Chronicles, entry 5 (which is sitting on a bench near the bridge in Old Lestallum). It makes sense a story about a “river crawler” would lead to a recipe involving tomalley. What else can we infer from this? I’m not sure we can really connect the entry to Ignis (or Old Lestallum). That said, there was once a theory Ignis was related to Oric, but that will have to wait for another post.

6. Feast of the Divine

Next to Kenny’s Original Recipe, this is the strangest item on Ignis’ list. This dish is prepared by Gentiana in the Comrades DLC (before Comrades became a standalone you could only acquire te recipe after she made it). Noctis’ favorite Comrades dish is prepared by Cid, Prompto's is made by Cindy and Gladio’s is prepared by Cor. Many speculated that Ignis’ fave would be Aranea’s, but not many guessed it would be Gentiana’s.

Genti’s dish is complex and beautiful to look at. It features extremely expensive ingredients and gives good buffs. Does Ignis love this dish simply because it is the most sophisticated? The best tasting? The most beautiful? Any of those could be good answers., but if you break out the tinfoil you can go further. Does Ignis love Gentiana’s dish because he knows her well? Is Ignis himself some type of astral? Or a messenger?

Very far fetched, but since we have very limited background info on Ignis it’s tempting to invent theories to explain his past.

7. Kenny’s Original Recipe

This one is hard to reconcile. How could a man of such culinary sophistication love something like this?? I’m not even sure what it actually is. It is clearly a salmon fillet, but it’s not clear what is covering it. Some believe that it’s pastry, others think that it might be a cheese topping like some sort of cursed tuna melt. Personally, I think it looks like mozzarella cheese. I did come across a bizarre thing at Japanese KFCs--deep fried salmon bites. That might be similar to Kenny’s.

You might think this is just something that Ignis settles for when the bros go to the Crow’s Nest--a sort of adaptation to cope with their many visits to Kenny’s place. This would seem like a good explanation, but he doesn't just tolerate it--he loves it! The little sprite Ignis leaps for joy when you select it. It almost seems hypocritical after Ignis’ snarky remark to Prompto implying Crow’s Nest fare was unhealthy and fattening.

It’s possible the dish holds some special place in Ignis’ heart. It seems like the Crow’s Nest chain is only outside the walls of Insomnia, but it’s possible a Crow’s Nest or two made it into the city. Maybe Kenny’s Original Recipe reminds Ignis of some fond moments from his childhood. Maybe it was a dish someone from his family really loved. Maybe he saw an ad for it when he was small and always wanted to try it. Maybe his inner Guy Fieri is coming out. Maybe Kenny intimidated him into liking the dish.

Who knows, but the fact that Ignis loves this is just one more of the many mysteries about Ignis.

Taken together, these dishes reveal a man who has sophisticated, yet not elitist tastes. A man who appreciates fine dining and the comfort of a home cooked meal. Most importantly, we know that he appreciates a good cake. I hope you get to have all of your favorites today, Ignis. 🎈Happy birthday!! 🎈

Azz-kun is such a proud parent…even though he’s the same age as Iruma, LOL.

Lack of ambition? Clara just proved this wrong last episode and Sabro has his own ambitions…but then again, Azz-kun wasn’t privy to such knowledge.

“Fear 1” is a pun on ikkai (first floor). (At least, that’s what I can assume from context.)

There doesn’t actually seem to be a pun when Azz mentions Execution Cannonball (shokei gyokuhou)…which, I think, is weirder than having a pun in the first place. (The later joke is that Clara says gyouki instead of gyokuhou, which is pretty far off for part of it but completely spot on for the other , so the subbers put in a phrase that matched that kind of pattern in the English as well.)

Rumour has it there’s going to be an Iruma-kun dub. I wonder how they’ll make all the puns work…?

It’s-wahahaha! It’s just dodgeball!

The giant moving crab is actually a thing. I went and saw it one time in Ginza and again on Dotonbori, Osaka. The crab is associated with Kani Doraku, a crab restaurant.

“Amajiki” literally means something like “eats the sky”. A good name for my good boi.

I think one of the victims had part of his head missing in the ID Well, so maybe Sakaido’s missing an elbow in real life…?

The joke is that the word for “well” in Japanese is i (井) or ido (井戸) and then ID, of course, is ID and likewise id is id (but it’s ido in Japanese). Googling ID: Invaded reveals Sakaido is written with this same kanji, plus two others (酒井戸), meaning his name is part of the wordplay too.

It’s like Minecraft, except you make the world with your entire body…LOL.

Maybe that’s (takoya) short for “takoyaki”…? Just a guess. Update: I’m right.

I went back to my old Honeyfeed stories recently and I rediscovered a character that I wrote about a few years ago – Yuki, after the matching character I axed from my original plot of Half-Paid Heroes (because the story I’m referring to is the Honeyfeed version of HPH) – who was partially close-shaven like Fukuda. I gave Yuki such a character design just to set up intrigue, but I didn’t think I’d ever see a similar design to it, ever. Now, here I am.

Narihisago? What a name! I checked what “hisago” means and apparently it means “gourd”.

Is this Kaeru (the one that committed suicide), perhaps, the one in Hondomachi’s head and that’s not actually the case…?

The CGI’s a bit awkward in this show.

B Hotel Quezon City Offers Stylish Staycation With Fantastic Dining Options

Last weekend, we went on a fun, relaxing, and food-filled staycation at B Hotel Quezon City together with a few of our friends. I had stayed at this hotel before back in 2015 when it was newly opened (B Hotel Quezon City: Industrial Chic Accommodations in the Heart of the City), so I was really happy to be invited back and reacquaint myself with this charming neighborhood hotel in Quezon City.

B Hotel Quezon City is a boutique hotel located along Scout Rallos Street, just a few steps away from the bustling Timog and Tomas Morato commercial areas. It is owned and operated by Bellevue Hotels & Resorts which is well known for its luxurious five-star hotel in the south, the Bellevue Manila, as well as the Bellevue Resort in Bohol and the B Hotel in Alabang.

Checking in was a breeze as the hotel also offers complimentary parking slots at the basement. B Hotel Quezon City’s central location plus affordable rates makes it an ideal destination for businessmen who are staying in the city for a few days, or even for balikbayan friends or visiting relatives who need a convenient and comfortable hotel that is just nearby.

We stayed at the Superior King Room which comes with 28 square meters of relaxing space. The room features wooden floors and interiors with a separate work area and lounge chair.

Aside from the king sized bed and cushioned headboards, it also comes with an LCD cable television, a small fridge and mini bar, a work desk with USB ports, and complimentary wired and wireless internet access.

The comfort room comes with a rain shower and is complete with toiletries and amenities for a comfortable stay. We went to the hotel quite early because we were excited for our staycation, so it was time to have lunch at the lobby!

The Lobby Cafe is the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant that serves breakfast buffet plus an international a la carte menu for lunch and dinner. B Hotel Quezon City is very proud of its dining options at the lobby and at their popular steakhouse downstairs, so we were happy to be given a sample of their creative and enticing menu selection prepared and curated by Executive Chef Vincent Odejar.

Our lunch at the Lobby Cafe started with the Kani Crisp and Roasted Mushroom Salad (P380). This very pretty salad comes with a combination of crab sticks, mixed greens, garlic, mushrooms, and honey miso dressing.

We were quite delighted with all the other items presented like the Cured Salmon and Potato Salad (P420) with its homemade salmon gravlax, baby potatoes, bacon bits, chives, and Parmesan cheese. The Truffle Carbonara Pizza (P720) is a great lunch or snack option that can be shared with friends. Asian and Local Favorites on the menu include the Pad Thai (P480), a Thai favorite made with rice noodles, shrimp, chicken and tofu. There's also the Laksa which is a spicy Southeast Asian noodle soup using coconut broth.

For our main course, I really liked the Seared Mediterranean Sea Bass (P960) with cauliflower-tarragon cream, miso, and edamame purée. The very tender sea bass was cooked perfectly.

Meatlovers should go for the US Boneless Short Ribs (P1,000) with garlic confit, red wine-shallot reduction, pumpkin purée, herb butter, and black peppercorn sauce. The presentation itself looks like a work of art which adds to the overall dining experience. You don’t have to go all the way to Ortigas or Bonifacio Global City to enjoy a five-star experience such as this.

The same can be said about their desserts because they all look too beautiful to eat. The Lava (P320) is a luscious and moist chocolate cake served with melted chocolate and topped with vanilla ice cream. I was quite surprised to see their Fried Ice Cream (P280), a unique ice cream rendition with crusted cereal, and chocolate syrup. There’s also the Pannacotta (P300) with milk, cream, and berries as well as the Tiramisu (P320) with lady finger, coffee, and mascarpone cheese.

For those who just want a quick bite or some refreshing drinks, The Pastry Corner located at the other end of the lobby offers freshly made pastries, cakes, sandwiches, coffee, and specialty beverages.

Their lovely Afternoon Tea Set is one of the most affordable and highly recommended deals you can find in the city. For only P800 you can get a three-tier canapé set plus a cup coffee or tea to go along with it.

Another specialty at the Pastry Corner is the Lotus Ensaymada which is made with crushed Lotus Biscoff on top and inside the bread. I really like this ensaymada and you won't find it anywhere else but at B Hotel.

I was also very happy with my Mango Tart paired with a tall glass of Hot Chocolate. You can also enjoy your snacks and desserts with one of their Specialty Beverages like the Ube Vanilla Cream or the Triple Berry Cheesecake.

After that indulgent lunch and afternoon tea break, it was time to go back to my room for an afternoon siesta. Guests at the B Hotel can easily explore the city as malls and activities are all just a few minutes away.

For those who want to stay inside the hotel like me, B Hotel also has a swimming pool located on the third floor. The infinity pool has a surrounding view of the residential houses nearby and is great for kids and families. There is also a Poolside Bar nearby where you can order beverages and snacks while relaxing. Just beside this is the fitness center where you can get a quick workout to burn the calories from all the eating.

For dinner, our group headed downstairs for a sumptuous steak dinner at Johnny's Steak and Grill. You can find this fabulous steakhouse at the ground floor right along Scout Rallos Street which makes it accessible even for guests not staying at the hotel. It is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 5:00pm all the way to 1:00am.

Johnny's Steak and Grill has been serving some of the best steaks in the city ever since it opened in 2016 (New Steakhouse Alert: Johnny’s Steak and Grill Opens in B Hotel Quezon City). It has a casual and hip vibe that is a refreshing change from the traditional steakhouses.

We had a choice of the Roasted Pumpkin Soup (P320) and the Forest Mushroom Soup (P340) for our starter. This hearty bowl comes with herb focaccia bread that goes really well with the warm soup.

You can actually cross-order from the Lobby Cafe's menu and vice versa so you have a diverse selection from burgers and pasta to ribs and steaks. The Tex-Mex Chicken Burger (P580) has a Mexican-style chicken served in a brioche bun. There's also the Sliders (P580) from their Mezzanine Bar served with truffle fries.

We took advantage of their Glazed Ribs Weekend which is offered every Friday to Sunday from 5:00pm to 11:00pm. Guests can indulge in their delectable Honey Bourbon Baby Back Ribs for only P1,350 nett. This comes with both beef and pork ribs served with corn cob and bourbon sauce.

There's also the pretty Australian Lamb Rack (P1,200) which has a French-cut half rack of lamb served with mint jelly, compound butter, and red wine jus. The lamb was cooked magnificently so it doesn't have a gamey taste.

But the highlight of our dinner was definitely the 300 grams MB5 Westholme Australian Wagyu Striploin (P4,000). This steak is one of the highest quality wagyu you can find in the city and it is just so fatty and tender. We really had a great time at Johnny's Steak and Grill. We were all so full from all those meaty dishes so we decided to call it a night. I had such a wonderful rest and sleep that evening.

The next morning, I woke up a bit later since it was the weekend and headed down for our buffet breakfast which is served from 6:00am to 10:00am at the Lobby Cafe.

You can find plenty of breakfast favorites like cereals, breads, pastries, fruits, and salads together with coffee, hot chocolate, and juices.

Bacon is always the centerpiece of hotel breakfasts so I was happy to find it on the table. There were also plenty of other items like longanisa, potato wedges, beef tapa, shakshuka, taho, and an egg station where you can have your choice of eggs cooked according to your preference.
