JAKE, at dinner: This meal was not made with love was it?
JANE: It was not, because no one loves you.

According to the artist, when it was suggested that a smile might benefit the look of the finished portrait, Attaché Nohell reportedly replied, "I thought the purpose of this was to be honest."
Super fun commission of @waterloggedsoliloquy's OC Sicely Nohell (they/them) and their terrible, horrible, no good, very bad lusus figure Commanding Officer.

my favorite thing about any hs fic featuring karkat, is that you can immediately tell it’s a fic; solely based on the fact that karkat has decent comebacks

buuuh thinking about how like basic things about the carapacians are just. not cared about, or are overlooked in a sense
like the basic parallels of terezi , vriska and snowman and spades are known but it’s so easy to see how that extends to kanaya and rose or how jade john and PM and WV switch in a sense(with jades and WVs situations on the three year trip being very similar at least post recon)

hey I know ya busy dying in unova but when you're done with that. unfriendly reminder that you should read homestuck ;)
you know what. screw this. i was gonna try to be funny about it by sending younes an ask about kanaya after i met her but time's run out on that clearly.
THIS IS MY OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. I HAVE STARTED ON HOMESTUCK. IM SO SORRY EVERYONE
anyways its pretty good. ive finished act three and the first intermission with the midnight crew (which ill be honest. didnt care a ton for. i know that theres some plot significance to it because i recognise the names Snowman and Lord English so i didnt skip it but it took the wind out of my homestuck sails HARD) and uh. good comic. big fan of jade (which does not surprise me in the slightest) and relate a little too much to rose (which DOES surprise me quite a lot, i wasnt expecting to like her a ton), but all four of the kids are supremely well-written thus far.

have you / will you read post canon? I find it interesting, there's definitely problems but I find some moments really cool and taking a whole new direction with homestucks initial ending makes it very special. it's definitely not perfect, tends to be like TV-MA homestuck, but I feel like there's a lot of aspects underneath the dir(k)t that make it charming in its own way. Maybe it's just the perspective I like to read things in though.
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard anyone speak kindly about post canon (that’s homestuck 2 right? The candy and meat thing?). It’s nice to know there are some people who enjoy it amidst the hate it goes through. I’m sure lots of people put a lot of effort into it. That being said, no, I’m afraid I’m not interested in reading it. I don’t have a big reason besides just being content with where homestuck ended. And also I’m discouraged by the bad things I have heard.

who is honestly out here searching the most discourse-heavy character in the series by first name only and not expecting to see negative posts??
like if i'd tagged it with a bunch of variations of her name i'd understand, but all i did was mention her anon didnt even check the tags adhxndjsjxbshsh

im not really a homestuck fan anymore nor do i ever have the patience or time to reread it properly but. i will still fight tooth and nail for the fact that there's still a lot of value to that comic
#text#it lands solidly in 'good' category to me it does a lot of things i like but a lot i can't stand#what it does well it does so so well and tho it's very obviously a thing that started in 2009 by someone from newgrounds#and by the end you can tell everyone was tired of it going including the author#and then the fucking. shitty ass followups that seem to actively mock and loathe the fact that theyre homestuck followups#i think the meat and potatoes of the comic itself can be incredibly good more often than it's bad#its Long As Fuck but you know every facet of the significant characters. you grow and bond with them so much#absurdly long stretches of nearly pure dialogue back and forth between characters on a page#and then the next page with even more dialogue back and forth them just talking going on rambles and making jokes#but its so natural and most of the main cast feel super real like these are just some kids having a conversation on skype or smth#also it's still one of the funniest things i've ever read no cap. some of the jokes still stay in my mind forever#its not at all for everyone. not whatsoever. its 85% dependent on you liking these characters enough to see more of them#and just wanting to spend time with these little losers and their dumb overly complicated game#but i did like them! i think abt these characters a lot in my random life still despite not interacting significantly with it in years#and i feel like people are kinda a bit too mean abt it nowadays. acting like it was all a waste of time and there wasn't anything good#when no i still like a good amount of it up until beginning-middle of act 6 onwards when it just gets too confusing to keep up with#i still suggest reading it if you have time. can look past a lot of the early acts saying slurs and such. and have interest in it#at least try to get to act 5 if not beginning of 6 and then go thru 6 until u can't stomach anymore of it or if u reach the end#bc yeah act 6 being a nightmare confusion world is a lot of why i think ppl think it sucks#plus the first acts being a bit. 2009 newgrounds core#but even in those acts there's still some good stuff i wish ppl didn't shrug the whole thing off#Just give it a try see if its for u or not#it was one of the biggest Things on the internet for a while for a good reason#and i think it's a shame that it's mainly just considered. something shameful to like and stupid and has no inherent value to it#when there really is still a lot to like#give it a whirl see how you feel#i'm still never personally touching it again bc of. Generally who i was when i was hyperfixated on it#so. lmao

Honestly some fans just need to write a reincarnated as x character fic for their problematic faves. It's ok to like certain aspects and concepts as a character and if you feel like the character has a lot of wasted potential and their arcs focus on the wrong things there are many ways to fix that! One of them is canon-divergence or for-want-of-nail, which are of course very good, but I feel like the reincarnation/self-insert path is very underused in fiction. Yes it requires a certain amount of creativity but so does writing anything and a lot of characters lend themselves really well to this trope. I feel like the fic world (or at least ao3) would be a lot more diverse if people moved further away from the stigma of reincarnation/self-insert fics

Homestuck is so interesting because like...listen it's good. I will die on that goddamn hill. But there's different stadia to it. The first one being "wow I did not fucking understand any of that."
The second one is "oh okay I gave it another shot and things are falling together into this full circle of paradox space :)"
And the third one is when you comprehend Homestuck well enough to point out the flaws in its narrative. And there are a lot of flaws in the narrative (although technically subjective, the fandom kind of agrees that by the end of Act 6, things were getting...worse).

Which Pokemon character would most likely read Homestuck?
Penny is the first one that comes to mind. I'm conflicted between her being really into it or reading it ironically, but she's read at least some of it nonetheless.
But that's also kind of a boring answer, so outside of her I'd say...maybe Shaunna? I could see her blabbing all about it to her friends excitedly, leaving them confused bc she may as well be speaking gibberish.
I also think that Bianca and Rui (the companion from Colosseum) would stumble upon it, but wouldn't really understand anything.
