Watcher fans sure are entitled and a little insane, ngl. "No one is going to sign up for your service! We're all poor! You've made the worst decision, and you'll be back in no time!" Saying this directly to the creators really reminds you of how low the respect for people you don't personally know has gone. I miss the forth wall between creator and audience.

I get and fully understand not having the money to support them, but... Watcher does have fans with money. A lot of them actually. They have merch sales. Their live tour sells out most venues. They have thousands of supporters on Patreon, where the cheapest tier is $5. They're able to gauge the rough finances of their staunchest supporters; that's how they landed on the subscription price. Yes, this move will reduce their viewership in sheer numbers, but to say all of their fans are broke and none will follow/support is factually incorrect.

It may not be a decision everyone agrees with, but severing the limitations of advertisers and youtube in favor of artistic freedom is a good thing. Yes, even if it comes with a loss of revenue. They understand that risk.

Also, I'm begging people to stop treating this like "another Netflix" or something and instead look at it as, "I am supporting a creator I like, similar to Patreon." They literally said in the video that they don't care if you share accounts. Get five friends, and you'll pay $1/mo.

I hate feeling compelled to rant in favor of their decision because I have my own reservations about whether it's the best move. However, I know it's not a choice they made lightly, and I like to think they understand that they'll need to branch out like crazy to entice subscribers.

hiii re: your most recent post, im pretty sure i remember the voice actor of spanish dub dean confirming that y yo a ti was not scripted? there was a panel a while ago where either he or the spanish dub director said it was not scripted/part of the translation but was a choice made by the team on the day based on the rest of the work they had done on the series. sort of along the lines of like, they decided to add y yo a ti bc they knew the show well and knew that's the right response for dean? i would have to dig through 2 years of my blog to find a source for this but I do remember it

ah yes! i honestly forgot about that one ksjshs. i've dug out a couple of posts: [one], [two], [three], and yes, it looks like it would've been the team's/director's choice based on that. some of the posts i linked here aren't 'official' sources, but neither are the recent posts about the translator's confirmations. though it's been almost three years and different people involved so i'm not too surpised about discrepancies

#just from personal experience - adding/removing/changing stuff as part of translation is quite common as in most cases you wouldn't be #translating word for word especially if we're talking about media etc. but i don't know much about script translating so maybe there are #different rules there. what i mean to say is that i wouldn't be surprised at all if the line was added by someone #though scripts do go through numerous changes so can't say what exactly happened there #the line could've been there in english at some point though that's obviously very much a random speculation not based on much #unfortunately i don't remember how many/if any versions of the script have been made public but might be something that could help #with clarifying stuff as well #spn trending asks

Ayo, bard anon here, have a few more of my epic (non-Ben related) mythology pitches for various species that I may or may not eventually make fanfics for (sorry if this is too rambley BTW, I tend to get carried away with this kind of stuff sometimes):

The Galvans having their very own version of Prometheus in the form of the very first First Thinker, who allegedly stole knowledge itself from a race of terrifying giants that regularly terrorized the prehistoric Galvans and kidnapped them to use as slaves and pets (exactly what alien species these giants were supposed to represent is still heavily debated to this day) and granting it to his people, which they used to become the scientifically and technologically advanced civilization they are today. Pretty much every First Thinker has at least one story about them and their achievements, for that matter. If Azmuth is anything to go by, the Galvans tend to pick rather unique individuals to lead them. 

The Cerebrocrustaceans having a similar myth to the Galvans where a legendary trickster stole lightning bolts from the gods and imbued its power into the foreheads of his species so that they couldn’t be reclaimed, created as a way to explain how they’re able to generate electricity from their brains. Despite the Cerebrocrustaceans claiming that the Galvans “stole” the story from them, the two myths seem to have been created completely independent from one another, although there’s still much scholarly debate over which one emerged first.

The Petrosapiens having tales that envision Sugilite as omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, having emerged from a gigantic space geode Ra style and sculpted the landscape of Petropia and the first Petrosapiens (who were created in his image) from a cluster of jagged crystal. Sugilite always found it too awkward to correct them about it and basically just rolled with it for eons.

The Vilgaxians naturally having many (extremely white-washed) stories of their great leader, the most popular one being how he was banished at a young age for speaking out against their planet’s cruel tyrant of a ruler, only to return years later to defeat said ruler in the Conqueror’s Challenge and usher in a new age of peace and prosperity for the Chimera Sui Generises (I think that’s the plural for them?). Most bards tend to change the names when telling those stories to non-Vilgaxian planets if they bother to ever tell them at all.

The destruction of the Incurceans’ homeworld being re-envisioned as them majorly pissing off the Gods and getting smited for it a la Atlantis or Troy. In such stories, Azmuth is usually portrayed as an emissary of the gods if not one of the gods in disguise, something that he has gone on record numerous times saying he isn’t a huge fan of, to put it mildly.

Oh and I am totally an utter HUGE fan for these little myth snapshots, especially with certain cerebrocrustacean folk complaining that the galvans took their story from them- Even with their similarities (a member of their species stole something from someone powerful and gave it to their people) I like how there's like a difference between the specifics, particularly how the FIRST First Thinker stole knowledge from another species and how it contrasts with a legendary trickster stole lightning from the GODS! Not only are these stories just additional worldbuilding, it's also packed with an additional set of worldbuilding down to political and religious roots.

And I am constantly a Mor'Otesi believer, even if present day it's barren of any people (love me an overgrown planetary wasteland), so anytime Sugilite gets all awkward about being deified I'm all for it! Irrespective of how I view canon I can totally see petrosapien myths about Sugilite being essentially a 'god' if not THE god of Petropia and them in kind, heck maybe a few vocal languages use Sugilite's name as inspiration for godly words lmao- considering how Mor'Otesi was mythologised in of itself, he himself would have probably been on Petropia for a LONG while (doesn't help that my mutants and magic Sugi would need to meditate for forever essentially to record the memories of a planet, so long in fact he might accidentally get overgrown by Petropia itself lmao).

Hehe- from one rambler to another, I would read the absolute fuck out of any worldbuilding fic you may or may write!

#The Poisons We Drink #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #this is…….a lot of cool ideas but also so many elements and high stakes that i kinda lost track of them #the pacing is weird. the worldbuilding is random? #why is brewing SO overpowered & risky for her but the other powers seem to have pretty normal low-scale risks? #it’s definitely ambitious and has some cool ideas and also some great characters just. didn’t execute as well as I’d like #as much as we’re told the main threat is the government trying to put through a Registration Act #most of the actual antagonism we see is from other Witchers? #like the systemic discrimination got a bit lost in the witcher family drama and murder politics #important things to say about oppression and police violence but like....idk #she has this ‘deviation’- essentially evil sentient magic inside her head (and you KNOW I love that trope) #but it’s barely explained and very underutilised? other than helping her get out of bad situations you could take it out & would barely #change anything #also it’s explained at the start that she’s an empath but other than the very occasional mention I kept forgetting #will also note that I bumped this up my tbr because I saw the author talking/promoting it as the MCs sister being aroace but no mention #maybe it’ll come up in a sequel (there weren’t really any places where it would have made sense to bring it up here) but idk #(just the way the author was asking for advice on how to write an ace character and stuff you’d assume that they’d….put that in the book?) #not really a critique of the book itself but anyway.
