GMMTV 2024 part 1 - review
another year, another lineup, another post that no one asked for dhkgdf
But here are my thoughts on the announced shows from today (in order of announcement, BLs are marked with a 🏳️‍🌈, personal favorites are marked with a 🌟):
My Precious The Series: This project has been lingering around for 4 years now since it was announced and I'm tired lmao why are they making this into a series now??? I have many questions. I never had any desire to watch the movie, it seems like a generic coming of age drama oozing with unnecessary nostalgia so it's a pass for me. .
Ploy's Yearbook (🌟): I like this one!!!! It's giving I'm Tee Me Too but with a female ensemble cast, all of which are fantastic and also the rest of the cast is very promising and we're in for a lot of new ships - I was hoping Earth and the other 30yr olds would finally be free of the blue shorts but maybe this the last one 🤡 but anyway yes I will definitely be tuning into that one 👍🏻 .
We Are (🏳️‍🌈): I'm just gonna go ahead and assume this is the WabiSabi show because it looks terrible. Like how lazy do you have to be to just throw a bunch of BL side- and 1 mainstream couple into the same show with the most basic plot you can think of like what a joke?? WinnySatang are another side couple in this so either they're getting their actual debut show in part 2 or this has all been a scam lol. I expected a lot more, same goes for AouBoom and MarcPawin, who I was hoping would maybe get a comeback show. Also PondPhuwin going from NLMG to this is.... a choice. Don't wanna judge too fast but the trailer made it seem like no effort went into this at all. Hoping for a better end result. .
The Trainee (🏳️‍🌈): Oh look!!! It's OffGun show number 6 lmao rip. I'm not gonna comment on this matter again, I guess they'll just be around forever and that's that lmao. But anyway I'm a little confused by this show, the premise seems fun but?? I have questions lol. I'm excited to see View and Piploy though and I'll just keep an open mind. .
Only Boo (🏳️‍🌈): How did we go from Only Friends to Only Boo lmao what a downgrade. I wanted an all-newbie BL and I'm excited to finally see some new faces but I guess I fooled myself into anticipating a setting that's not highschool lmao. This is another show that I'm clearly too old for but it's also the MSP of 2024 and that ended up being nicer than expected so maybe this will be the same. We shall see. .
Pluto (🏳️‍🌈 🌟): I'm 😭😭😭 This was such a huge surprise I'm still shook lmao. Namtan and Film is not only a couple I never expected in 432 years lmao but also a very strong combination in terms of acting and I'm SO into it. They're revisiting a plot about a disability which is still something I'm dreading about Last Twilight so I guess it comes down to the director again. Let's hope they do it justice. Also the twin story could be tricky, I'm getting some Not Me vibes plot-wise but regardless the trailer looks super interesting to me, also Ciize and Kapook?? YES please. I'm so hyped for this!!!! 🥺 .
On Sale (🌟): Ghostbusters but make it TayNew? I love it lol this looks so fun, I'm very intrigued. I wasn't a huge fan of New before but he climbed up the ladder with The Warp Effect real fast because he undeniably excels at playing awkward goofy characters and this looks like another chance for him to showcase that lol. Him and Tay have always worked better as a comedic duo for me so I'm actually excited that this will be more of a bromance situation lol. Also Mook and Jan are excellent additions so I will be watching this for sure!! .
Ossan's Love Thailand (🏳️‍🌈, remake): I have very mixed feelings about this, I have not seen the original show but from what I've gathered, this does not seem fitting for EarthMix, also is it really necessary to remake another Japanese BL? But this is coming from someone who's not exactly a JBL connoisseur so I guess I'm biased. It seems that after MLC they became enthusiastic about the idea of casting EM in more mature roles which I endorse very much but aren't the people in the OG literally 40 💀 idk I'm curious to see what they make of it and also if we will ever get to see a trailer because we all know how that went with Cherry Magic lol. oh well. .
My Golden Blood (🏳️‍🌈🌟): Well well well. what do we have here. This is for sure the biggest surprise since Be My Favorite lmao I can't believe Gawin is bringing yet another retired BL actor back from the dead and this time it's supernatural kjdhgd. The vampire genre is something I never thought GMMTV would take on but like?? I'm excited?? I'm so happy to see my boy Gawin in another main role and Joss is such an interesting partner but he fits the genre very well imo lol. Also Neo and Mond?? I'm so ready. Hoping for a release around Halloween next year for obvious reasons lol ✌🏻 .
Kidnap (?): Another show another confusion lmao this looks like Double Savage 2.0 to me, Ohm is caught in another mafia situation but this time not with his brother but with someone who's either a bro or a 💖 bro 💖 lmao but this smells like bromance to me. Ohm would never. And besides that I'm not really intrigued. next. .
Summer Night: This is kinda strange because everything about this seems like a BL but... it's not? the first 30 seconds had me convinced PhuwinDunk were gonna be the new thing on the block lmao but yeah apparently not. If I squint my eyes I would think this is Hidden Agenda 2 but with more girls lol and tbh I expected another JD series but regardless the plot seems a bit generic to me so I'm on the fence about it for now. .
Wandee Goodday (🏳️‍🌈): This looks like the Walmart version of Only Friends tbh but guess what I'm on board lmao. It's AllThis Entertainment's new project which means no Eclipse Season 2 (thank god). Great and Inn are a pair I did not see coming and tbh I did not expect Great to even take on a BL role to begin with but I'm intrigued! The director has been moving on a vast spectrum of different genres lately and this is another one that's completely different from their previous works. But I'm excited. It looks kinky and violent. perfect. .
Highschool Frenemy: All I'm seeing is people beating each other up and calling each other friends afterwards so yeah. not my thing. next. .
My Love Mix-Up (🏳️‍🌈, remake): I'm not a huge fan of this, not just because I didn't like the original but because I was hoping to see GemFourth in a different setting. I'm confident they can do it justice though and deliver a good outcome, especially regarding the comedy, but other than that this isn't going on my watchlist for now. .
conclusion: this was a wild rollercoaster lol, every trailer was a stressful game of Het, Gay or Bromance lmao - The majority of this lineup was not to my liking but then again I appreciated the variety because from puppy love highschool romance to gay vampires is a spectrum you really can't complain about lmao. My 2 highlights for now are Pluto and My Golden Blood simply because they're both a massive surprise that they kept very well hidden lol, I'm also intrigued by Wandee Goodday and Ploy's Yearbook because those have great ensemble casts.
One thing I'm missing from the BL lineup though is a genuine romance, something that's deep and genuine and more mature. What they announced seems fun but for the most part either silly or drowned out by 32 couples at the same time lol. so I really hope we will get something a little more serious that also talks about lgbt issues in part 2; Something like Be My Favorite would be nice, maybe minus the supernatural element.
I did not expect them to announce 15 series already, considering this is only part 1 so who knows what part 2 will bring. I'm expecting FK to make an appearance as well as PerthChimon since they are the only 2 couples that have not shown up, also possibly JoongDunk because I can't imagine they would separate them just yet. Looking forward to December! ✌🏻
Don't hesitate to drop your thoughts below! 🧡

Rose's Day of Asks
From your 'OGMMTVC Project' what have been the shows that surprised you the most? For whatever reason
Have a great Day💜
HI ROSE, great to hear from you! Oooh, great question! Old GMMTV Challenge shows that I was surprised by....
I think in general, shows that surprised me were ones whose reputations preceded them in various ways. More below:
1) I was surprised by how much I liked Make It Right (season 1 and season 2 thoughts here). It's still seen as a problematic show in many ways, and especially by the way the main ships of TeeFuse and FrameBook began their relationships (and there have been issues since 2016 about how young the actors were in their first BL roles). But I was really struck -- especially in the second season, but also many times in the first season -- by how empathic the show was to the confusion of young men discovering their sexualities. It was a wild and chaotic work by New Siwaj and Cheewin Thanamin (GOD, THEY WORKED TOGETHER ON THIS, crazy to acknowledge this now), and there were manyyyy points of the two seasons that made nonsense, à la Cheewin's modus operandi. But there was true heart in the show, and the last episodes of TeeFuse and FrameBook confirming their relationships just took me out (especially with FrameBook's ending serving as a preview of how King and Uea confirmed their relationship in Cheewin's future show, Bed Friend).
2) I was surprised by how much I LOVED LOVED LOOOOOOVVVEEEEDDDDDD Theory of Love. The word used the most to describe this show when I was crowdsourcing the OGMMTVC list was "controversial." And I watched it and within the first episode, I was like, "OOOOH WE ARE GETTING PLAYYYYYED," and I loved the show for it. I know X Nuttapong has had some non-wins in his drama list (e.g., Vice Versa), but I think X's Theory of Love and Cherry Magic Thailand were seriously so fucking amazing, and he clearly can do wonders with excellent screenwriting. Theory of Love was so subversive and smart, and I think it showcased the start of the real depth of the OffGun ship wonderfully. Those two rose to the occasion. I can't wait to rewatch it.
3) I was surprised by how much I jumped on my bed and was screaming YAAAAASSSS at Lovely Writer. I watched some of Tee Bundit's works out of order. I watched TharnType first and was like, NO. And THEN I fucking watched STEP BY FUCKING STEP after that, and I was like, FUCK this guy. But Lovely Writer has almost universal praise, so I took some time to breattthhhheee, and watched it, and I was like, OH, so that's why everyone was originally hyped on Step By Step. Lovely Writer was fantastic, easily Tee Bundit's best show (in my opinion) on his list (and I say this as a IFYLITA stan), and thank god for this show, because it made me then appreciate his cute cameos in War of Y, lol.
4) I was surprised by how obsessed I got over Until We Meet Again, because fuck series that are 17 episodes long, but I literally still feel like I can't get enough of this series? I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
5) I was super surprised to have enjoyed my recent rewatch of KinnPorsche so much! I thought I'd be all haterade over it, considering my newfound education, but honestly, it was funny in a lot of parts, well acted, obviously well shot -- it was a romp, and I was glad to make myself an excuse to rewatch it as my first-ever Thai BL.
6) Something else that has surprised me recently, not quite show-related: I have recently watched Secret Crush On You, and I'm watching War of Y currently, and: I am not sure that Seng Wichai has gotten enough of his flowers. It's interesting to me that some of the absolute BEST actors in this field -- Seng Wichai, Ohm Pawat, etc. -- have controversial reputations preceding them for life situations that don't comport to easy shipping, god fucking forbid. During both SCOY and Seng's turn on War of Y, I was seriously taken by how good this guy is, and I'm not sure, during my crowdsourcing work, if Seng was boasted about enough. This m'fer can ACT, and I love him for it.
7) Not at all surprising was how much I had to say about Bad Buddy. I loved writing this mini-series!
Thanks for the question, Rose!

I saw people sharing thier favorite animatics related to November 16th/cwilbur, so I'd join in!
SO, in no particular order-
youtube
WOLFY WILL BE APPEARING AGAIN AND AGAIN! WOLFY NEVER MISSES WOOOO! The lyrics are wonderful and i love the blind in one eye look, it's so cool! watching cwilbur spiral in limbo as they reassess everything matches really well with song!!!!
youtube
I LOVEEEEE knp!!!'s art style and the moments they add line up PERFECTLY! Every chorus going "i miss you" at a different point in cwilbur's life as the song follows him through his story!
youtube
this circulates in my brain about three times a week MINIMUM i know i keep saying but i won't ever stop screaming about the LYRICS FITTING THIS SO WELLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!11!!!!!1 He didn't have it in himself to go with grace!! *points over and over again* And he can go anywhere he wants! ANYWHERE HE WANTS! Just Not Home! *curls up and sobs* and cphil!!!! "YOU HAD TO KILL ME BUT IT KILLED YOU JUST THE SAME ... YOU TURNED INTO YOUR WORST FEARS" MY LORD ROZU
youtube
i said Wolfy would be back and here it ISSSS!!! i ADORE explorations of cfundy's rocky relationship with cwilbur 'cause THAT'S HIS DAD *cries* and then switch to CPHIL and the CTOMMY, ommmmmgggg *holds gently* the family dynamics. yet it focuses on cfundy and i think we as a fandom neglect that part of the canon family or at least i can never get enoughhhhh
youtube
So this is ABOUT Revivedbur, and features a lot of flashbacks from the l'manberg eras as it changes alongside cwilbur. It's ctommy talking to cfoolish about cwilbur and i think about this conversation so often it's wonderful to see it in an animatic! it really highlights ctommy's philosophy and relationship with c!wilbur! ToKtopus
youtube
oh this one is so heavy but also so beautiful and i love it so much. This is where I adapted the headcanon into my brain that cwilbur had a l'manburg flag sewn on the inside of his jacket, over his heart, at all times. the silent monologue of ghostbur until the line at the end about everything around him being alive, except him.
youtube
sometimes i think wilbur and tommy listened to two bird right before starting the pogtopia arc and went "hey we should base our ENTIRE dynamic this arc on this" and then went live lol. I love this artsyle it's so cute and fits each character so well! I love the eyes in particular!
youtube
O to the Z to the Y to the MANDIUS wooo!!!! this changed MY brain chemistry and this changed the FANDOM's brain chemistry! if you are new here watch to change YOUR brain chemistry! and then go watch the rest of sad-ist they were one of the animators who popularized and showcased the lore of the dsmp arcs! Wilbur connects this poem to his character and it's so awesome seeing it read out and put to an animatic!
youtube
The mix of stream quotes with music is a SAD-ist staple and one of my favorite parts of their animations it just makes everything so hype! This just showcases the pogtopia arc up until right before the final battle so well! i love it every frame is a screenshot *chefs kiss*
youtube
And the odd-ball choice! Not cwilbur or ghostbur or l'manburg related, but instead it's that Oncelor song about the SCHLATT ADMINISTRATION! There is a eye strain warning in the title that gets cut off in the link, so I'm letting you know here! this is a really fun video and the colors are very saturated and fun! It has great humor and i laughed multiple times all while being very foreboding about what's going on in the Manberg era.
annnnndd there is a ten video limit so instead I'm going to link the last two:
knp!!!'s animatic "Not Your Fault" which is about cphil and his feelings after killing his son, going through the guilt and blame and all that good stuff. The chorus of "it was not your fault but mine, it was your heart on the line. i really fucked it up this time, didn't i, my dear?" just KILLS me every time!
The follow-up to SAD-ist's animatic above is "Dawn of 16th" and is amazing as always for balancing the music with the dialogue to create and wonderful narrative about that day!

for the kink ask game, feet, armpit and piss??
thank you thank you thank you thank you
Tumblr media
FEET No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know
i have to be honest. this started out as a joke first of all, and slowly over time turned into something i genuinely enjoyed. there's just something about someone being so in love with every part of you that even your feet turn them on, y'know? thats the angle im going for. i also just love having my feet tickled irl like it's so relaxing to me so the fictional worship of them is the next step <3
Alex is my pick for foot fetish from SDV. im all about that pervert alex hype train. so sweet that a god such as himself (you know with the tanned skin, the peak physique...) would want to worship the very ground you walk on, including your feet. that, and he's a dirty perv who gets off on 'obscure' things.
Kylar from dol would be into feet only in that they're filthy anime trash and like a lot of perceived 'nasty' content like that. anything out of the realm of normalcy they're into i think, and foot fetish content plays well into their obsessive lover nature. yes i love everything about you, including your feet, so of course i'll suck on your toes if you ask, fym?
ARMPIT No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know
it's the exact same as the foot stuff. it was a joke, and the more i thought/spoke about it the more real it became.... loving every part of you, even the parts thought of as generally unclean/dirty/not sexy and turning them into sexually provocative areas is so fun to write about <3 all the emotions that come with coming to terms with finding armpits sexy? i love it ugh. also it ties in nicely with my beloved scent kink <3
Alex and Kylar fit this best again, but i'd argue even Eden from dol could fit the armpit kink group. he's so disgusting to me, he'd probably get off to unconventional kinks. and that's fun too, exploring how gross some of these things are to the general public. elaborating on the degenerate behaviour.
PISS No | rather not | I dunno | I guess | Sure | Yes | FUCK yes | Oh god you don’t even know
this one i have no excuse for. it's just nasty and gross and especially in the context i like it most which is being turned into a toilet like??? DISGUSTING i love it LOL. the whole aspect of being dehumanized in this way is a really interesting topic to tackle, i think. and, i'd argue that at least for me it showcases (in most circumstances) complete love and trust in someone else. or, on the flipside, a complete lack of love and trust in someone else, which is also fun to explore. either way it's just a dirty twist on the smut genre that i feel is rarely touched upon.
Sebastian from sdv would be into it, if not actively, then at least passively. he watches/reads a lot of hentai, so he's not at all phased about bringing piss into the bedroom, and he's degenerate enough to enjoy it himself too. but even if he isn't into is as much as you, he'd be happy to accommodate your kink and get enjoyment from seeing you enjoy yourself, yknow? at least i think he'd be the most open to this kink!
Kylar from dol would love to get pissed on i think, but less so doing the pissing. just my take !! wouldn't wanna defile you in that way, instead preferring to be the one to endure the kink for you. it's funny, if it's their piss then it's defilement. if it's yours, then it's reverence. that sort of thing. Whitney would take pleasure in using you as a toilet though, having power over you in such a gross way has his heart racing </3 secretly enjoys it but would never admit to it to your face.

Hi Stormblessed,
Dug up tumblr to ask a question on my mind. You are the most ot7 I know. So for context, I don’t think I’m ot7 well I don’t know. I like BTS as a group, I listen to their songs and watch run BTS content. I love them as a group and have even watched them in concert.
But the only person I’m really interested in as a solo artist is Jimin, I found your blog because I was curious as to what was going on with JK, but for the most part I don’t really care too much about his private life, but I am a big fan of what Jimin brings to the table.
By the way, I have given the other members songs a listen. I liked Astronaut, wildflower, rush hour and closer, those are in my daily playlist. Some of suga are nice too.
I like Jimins voice a lot , his song Promise is what gave me the push to look into BTS’ music, and is still my favorite. I love his voice, artistry and respect for my members.
Since I like Jimin and keep up with his activities, especially on his album, I get a lot of Jimin biased things on twitter. Some of them can be mean, putting down the other members, I don’t like that…but for the most part they seem to be just caring about Jimin. Those are the ones that get the most likes obv.
The issue I am having is why is there this divide between army’s and as they call it “solos”. I understood it before when the boys were a group, but now it’s every man for themselves. I can understand disliking the haters, but I hate the idea of putting a whole group in a box.
And I feel like this issue needs to be nipped because they are going to be more “solos” as they are some people who won’t care for BTS and just care for a specific member. Or like me, a specific member led to their intro to the group.
This ask is long but it bothers me as it seems hypocritical. Many persons who could like BTS are thrown off because they hear Army is a toxic fandom, and even though I wouldn’t classify me as an army, I spent a lot of time defending them on YouTube saying only some are like that, don’t generalize the group.
So to see some fans refuse to take money from a well meaning account because it is Jimin biased and not ot7 really rubs me the wrong way.
This account has $10,000 to support Jimins album and some people who are broke(like me lol) could really benefit.
I think it leads to a bigger problem. Which is that these army made “ot7” rules and regulations do not fit with the fact that there is no BTS right now. BTS is on a break. The boys are solo and will get some fans who only support them and not the rest.
And it is a difficult transition but that’s just how it is. It’s sad some of the members solo fans hate the others, don’t really see how that works, but every artist has those obsessed fans like that. Those “my artist is better than yours” people, just look at Cardi and nicki fans.
I don’t know, maybe cause I only care about Jimin in that capacity I’m biased so I’m hoping after this epistle you can help me to see a different angle.
Hi, I don't have a ton of time to really write a whole essay on this for you honestly right now. But I will say, BTS are still BTS. They are focusing on solo work, but it's not every man for themselves. They are all supporting each others solo work ALOT. Hyping each other up. Streaming and reacting to each others songs. Encouraging people to listen to each others songs. Etc. And continuing to talk all the time about how they love getting to do and showcase their individual work, but that they want that in conjunction with BTS as a whole too and they will be coming back together after military service. Solos are often haters. Some are just more blatant about it than others. But solos are usually people who view the other members as direct competition against whoever their favorite member is. And will often think badly (aka be a hater) towards the other members. I touch on that in this post here. Briefly
The other thing is that while I can understand the sentiment, and the desire to have everyone just take the money to support Jimin no matter what. It's not always that easy. The exchange of money comes with the exchange of personal and private information, that of given to an untrustworthy person, can end badly. @beautifulpersonpeach actually did a post breaking down this in way more detail with way more examples and explanations and rather than trying to figure it all out myself in ways i could explain well here too, I'm just going to send you to her post
I'm not saying all this drama is deserved with the funds account I think you are referencing in your ask or that people shouldn't use funds from them. I don't know the account or their history or anything else to really give an opinion one way or the other. I just know I'm here for BTS. I'm here for Jimin. I'm ready to support him as much as I can. So as for using funds from any funds donation account, that should be a personal decision one makes for themselves. No one should influence that decision for you since it's your own money and information you are dealing with there.
And I also know that @chikooritajjk has set up a really nice FACE masterlist with links and information set up to help inform about funds, purchasing, goals, streaming, charting, etc. It's all well done and I'll link that post here as well because they did an amazing job and put it all together way better than i could and everyone should see it if they are wanting to promote and support Jimin in the best ways for it to count numbers wise. And they have a donation guide post coming soon
^ hopefully both those links work. Both tagged accounts are great accounts and resources too. They are both so knowledgeable and kind and know a lot and are OT7 with various bias lines and just love BTS and love music.
Tumblr media
I apologize again for my absence (which will continue over the next few days, I'll try to be here when I can) lately. I'm on vacation and enjoying time with my family. The down time I have is usually just going straight to catching up on whatever Jimin has dropped that day or the other members have surprised us with. Lol

Who's your favorite transformer, and why?
Thank you so much for the ask!!! Especially this ask!!! It made me so happy ~ ~ ~ ✨✨✨ Okay so full disclosure, this is a very easy question for me to answer—but it being easy to answer is entirely due to the fact that I can dump soooo many words into this. I kid you not, I was legit about to type up a Very Long and Glorious Post showcasing some of my favorite highlight videos, but then I saw that you had expressed interest in watching TFP...so I decided to withhold the best moments so you can discover them for yourself ;)
For now, I leave you with this:
^ From S1 E6, "Masters and Students" (Look at how sassy she is, lol. 💙)
My favorite Transformer of all time is Transformers: Prime Arcee! The character "Arcee" has bounced around from continuity to continuity, but TFP Arcee is so very special to me. There's truly no Arcee like her. I could say that for multiple reasons, but to me, she is special because...she is me. Shortly after discovering TFP for myself, I spotted some similarities between Arcee and I early in the show, and jokingly said that she was "literally me in Autobot form." As I continued watching, however, I soon became stunned by the deep truth of that originally lighthearted statement. As the show went on, I saw more and more and more and more and more parallels between Arcee and I. Everything in her character lined up with my own. It was so cool. Nowadays, I call her "literally me in Autobot form" and mean it wholeheartedly. It's no longer a joke! ;) And it is so fun :D The basics: - Her color scheme is pink and blue! When I was a kid, I always said that my favorite colors were pink and blue. I could not separate them; I would not say one was more important than the other. Present me has multiple favorite colors, but blue is at the top of the pyramid. How fitting that Arcee's dominant color is blue, but she still has pink to complement! She's a subtle reminder of my past self, and a bold reflection of my present. - You may notice that Arcee is not the largest of Transformers. She is very small! One of the things I love the MOST about TFP is that Arcee is never once belittled for her size. She's not even half of the height of Optimus Prime, but he treats her with the same respect as he would give unto any of his soldiers. So do her teammates—and even though the Decepticons dwarf her considerably, several of them still consider her a threat. As a "two-wheeler" myself, I loved that so much. It's especially wonderful for Transformers, where the whole GIANT ROBOT thing is hyped up a lot, and Cybertronians are often viewed as huge titans on Earth. To see that they're not all giant, and that they have different body types, and that "one should not be measured by size alone"...it's so, so good. Thank you so much, Transformers: Prime, for making Arcee a two-wheeler. - Arcee is sarcastic, loyal, and fierce. She's been through a lot, but she keeps fighting. She can be hotheaded in combat and overly sharp towards her team sometimes, but she learns from her mistakes and she would lay down her life for Optimus Prime. I love Arcee so much. There is still so much I could say, but I have to make myself turn off the engine before too many words zoom away from me, lol. Thank you again for the ask! <3 And thanks for waiting for me to put all this into words! ✨ I can't wait for you to meet my girl when it's time for Prime ;)

A look into the kaleioscope: Aoi in the Wrathful route.
In which I set out to talk about the wrathful route but ended up talking about everything I have seen of the game with a focus on Aoi.
Word count: 5417
(Spoilers for the events pre-timeline branch, the Wrathful Route and part of the Moral one, plus mild allusions to Truthful and Harmony.)
Being a big fan of Girls with Problems and Issues™ (see: Rue from Princess Tutu, Any Girl from Revolutionary Girl Utena) and having gotten word about the focus of the Wrathful Route, I was naturally very curious and hyped for it.
There’s appeal in watching a girl go apeshit: showcasing their flaws in ugly and unpleasant ways not only makes for good drama, but is also refreshing in a (mainstream) media landscape that more often than not smooths out any hint of a rough edge. It’s humanizing. It’s a powerful and cathartic acknowledgement of how destructive Problems and Issues™ can be through showcasing inherently immeasurable internal issues in extreme portrayals that symbolically illustrate the Lengths of the Struggle.
Does the Wrathful Route live up to this?
TL;DR: Yes, and in a thematically rich way.
The Heart of Digimon Survive.
Whatever your opinion on Takuma, he is the lense through which the conflicts of Survive are colored. His narration and internal monologue betray a deep concern about navigating appropriate social distance and boundaries while still being able to effectively check on and care for all his friends. This is at the heart of Survive’s thematic: the clash between social propriety, duty and cooperation versus the personal wants, needs and struggles inherent to individual identity.
The need for balance and the dangers of the extremes on either side of the dichotomy show repeatedly through the events of the game. An artificial and stagnant harmony for the sake of the rule of majority often ends in the needs of the kids being neglected to tragic results, which itself diminishes the longevity of the group and polarizes the dynamics within it. The opposite is also true: not only overtly self-centered, confrontational and stubborn individualistic approaches divide and fracture the group, they also prove detrimental for the long-term chances of success for personal goals and survival. Ryo and Shuuji are early-game poster children to these conundrums.
The beginning of the spiral.
Ryo’s introduction leaves clear he’s hard to get along with: he’s often irritable, uncooperative and antisocial. When it comes to doing his part within the group, Ryo often fails— he refuses to step up to his responsibility as senpai to Takuma and Minoru, he doesn’t help in group discussions and is frequently contrarian and combative to any course of action as well to being told what to do. He’s disruptive to the group’s goals of rescuing Aoi in part 1 and looking for the Professor, Saki and Shuuji in part 2, which is met with Minoru’s taunts and mockery and, potentially, Takuma’s clueless disregard (RIP to those who did try to comfort him on their first play through LOL But I still understand where Ryo is coming from).
This furthers Ryo’s alienation from the group and forms part of the vicious cycle Ryo has found himself in even before attending camp: the intense grief and loneliness stemming from his mother’s death express themselves through high irritability and anxiousness that difficult coping with daily-life activities and socializing. He’s aware his attitude drives him away from others but retiring from public life is simply not an option— even when his mother was still battling her illness, he got pushed to keep up with his responsibilities, as evidenced when he laments right before dying about being encouraged to be strong no matter what (giving thoughtless encouragement to people who are struggling is so prevalent even Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has issued a guide advising healthcare professionals not to push phrases like 頑張れ/頑張って onto patients. Incidentally, another Digimon installment that deals with the struggle to open up in the face of thoughtless encouragement and positivity is ReArise’s season two! Worth checking out!).
Ryo’s is a case where personal struggles disrupt the harmony of the group, but also where not respecting social propriety (Minoru treating him badly, doubly glaring due their age difference) and the failure of the group to look after one of their most vulnerable members creates a spiraling effect that locks the player into the three vanilla routes, two of which end up quite tragically. His death serves as a powerful statement of a very important thesis of Survive’s: that even when the kids act out in unpleasant and disruptive ways, they still deserve to be taken care of, and failure to do so heavily limits what the group can accomplish. The contrary also proves true: looking after all the members of the group strengthens the dynamics within it and brings out everyone’s best (Hey! Who would’ve thought? Ryo is actually a pretty great and supportive guy! Really looking forward to Truthful).
The side from which Aoi pulls.
Where does Aoi fall in this tug-of-war?
She is, simply put, the mom friend of the group: she cooks for them, her partner is the only one that naturally has healing ability in child stage—not to mention she herself will patch others up with her own hands— and she will often keep in mind the needs of the group and what course of action will be most beneficial for all. She’s gentle, values cooperation and has a strong sense of responsibility that will lead her to pick up the slack from those around her.
She prioritizes harmony so much she loses herself to it: she laments her personal identity revolves around being an honor student and a class president always forced to go several extra miles for the sake of the class with no expression of individuality or personal warmth. Her struggle to maintain her personal identity extends to being unable to express or assert herself: she gets self-conscious of her interests, she can’t stand up for herself and refuse extra work load, she won’t share her misgivings out of fear of being a burden and she has great difficulty sharing her input and defending it during group discussions.
These struggles will haunt her through the events of the game: her eroded self-esteem and her self-image as a supporting side character causes her to shrink out of the responsibility of leading the group in part 2 and to be unable to speak up when the group is openly antagonizing Shuuji in part 5. This exacerbates her sense of inadequacy upon both boys’ deaths, where she will continually beat herself up for failing to respond to the situation optimally and will always minimize her contributions to the group. The extent of these regrets can be fully appreciated through her Wrathful event-horizon realizations: she should've been more assertive from the start in order to prevent others from being wrong.
It becomes apparent Aoi's character revolves around duty and responsibility (which is heavily reflected in her partner's evolutions), something she shares in common with Shuuji.
Overachiever syndrome.
Shuuji’s first appearance firmly places him as someone who’s responsible for the rest of the cast: he’s older and their chaperone—as such he needs to make sure no one wanders off, everyone stays on schedule and generally out of trouble. The way he goes about leading them is strict and even nagging. Similarly to Aoi, Shuuji places the well-being of the group and its harmony over himself and others’ individual drives. This is evidenced through his argument with Kaito in part 4: concerned for the safety of the other kids, he opposes venturing outside to search for Miu, which can come off as cowardly at best and callous risk-calculating at worst. However, neither view describes his character accurately: while he's risk-averse, it's an attitude coming from watching two people die before him. He's acutely aware of the dangers that loom over the group but, nonetheless, remains committed and dedicated to look after them. It's thanks to his scrupulous nature that he pushes himself to the extreme: even though he's suffering from nightmares from the intense pressure he's under, disagrees with the course of action the group has decided by majority and is struggling to cope so badly he can't keep his emotions in check, he won't ask for a break or any sort of help that'd alleviate his burden. Ironically, the way he disregards all his individual needs for the sake of his duties backfires and turns his behavior into something that upsets the group greatly.
Shuuji’s intransigent morality is a source of constant friction with Kaito all the way to his death in chapter 5— a clear example of how an imposed and forced unity on the group causes division within it and hurts its specific individuals: with Kaito’s already fraught trust in the group failing to cement and Shuuji ending up openly antagonized by the rest. This extreme view on duty and authority is something that we’ll see further elaboration on through Plutomon’s extremist morality and pathos.
Shuuji’s conflation of leadership with authorianism speaks volumes of his own upbringing—as do his harsh and relentless criticism towards lopmon and his constant nagging to the group to steer them to act responsibly. He mirrors the way his own father treated him growing up, and, as such, his problematic behavior is once again a symptom of deep hurt and unmet needs, a wrong that needs to be communally righted before the group can live up to their best potential.
His leadership serves as a point of contrast to Aoi’s own approach to it: unable to put up with Kaito and Shuuji’s arguing any longer, Aoi uncharacteristically explodes and puts an end to their discussion. The way she engages them, however, isn’t through anger, belittling or mockery— she reminds each of their goals and invites them to question whether their actions are conducive to their success. She’s able to guide them to better behavior instead of upsetting them any further. This is again observed when she’s able to get through the child digimon trio pestering them at the park, and is generally an approach that is highly conductive to harmony for a group that’s highly emotional and under a huge amount of stress, evidenced through Takuma using a similar leading style.
Aoi’s full potential won’t be realized until near end-game stretches, for good reason: her debilitating self-doubt hampers any ability to assert herself, another trait she and Shuuji have in common. While Aoi clams up and fails to respond to the challenges before her, Shuuji tries to force his way through them. Similarly—the way Aoi’s identity revolves around fulfilling the high demands and expectations others have of her mirrors Shuuji’s sense of worth being rooted on meeting his father’s unreasonable standards for him. This leads both to second-guess their decisions, but also to foster a bubbling and potentially monstrous anger within them out of resentment of their grueling workloads, others’ selfish behavior and the unfair treatments they endure.
Both their responses to the stress and the nature of the external expectations over them are indicative of a gendered pattern of socialization that actively stunt their development (think of the lenient, devoted and quiet mother versus the bold and imposing leader). Shuuji’s survival hinges on him being able to embrace the “softer” sensitive and nurturing side of himself embodied by Lopmon as much as Aoi’s healthy development necessitates her to allow herself to assert herself and lean on the honesty encapsulated in Labramon.
Their refusal to burden the group with their personal struggles plays a key factor in both of their downfalls. Their better end-games have them relying on other characters such as Ryo, Takuma, Kaito and Saki to cross the bridge they didn't know they needed to cross to begin with.
Oil and warm water.
If Aoi is someone who will prioritize harmony above all else, then Kaito is someone who often has trouble adhering to it. His irascible, aggressively independent and headstrong personality often puts him at odds with the group, specially during times when they're scared and indecisive (which is often). However, this doesn't mean Kaito is such a selfish guy that he won't care about imposing on the group or about their well-being. Quite the contrary, if left to his own devices, he'll try to handle his problems alone so as to not to disturb the others— after all, Takuma did have to talk him out of leaving alone to look for Miu twice in chapter 5. His affinity dialogue shows time and time again that he will fight tirelessly to defend his sister even if that isolates him from the rest of the world. The lack of external support for both Shinonome siblings to deal with their traumatic past informs Kaito’s difficulties with respecting authority— especially if it doesn't align with his goals— and with fully integrating and leaning on the group.
While seemingly irreconcilable opposites, Aoi and Kaito, at their core, are all about a strong drive to look after other people. Their different approaches can paint them either as tragic foils or a complementary leading duo.
Kaito’s steely resolution to fight doesn’t always have to be a divisive force in the group, as illustrated in the Moral Route: when they’re cornered at the throne room, he has the head not to run off and influences the group to snap out of their fear-induced paralysis to protect themselves against the kenzoku. Aoi benefits from his snappy decisions— where she’d usually have difficulty making up her mind under intense pressure, she can ride his confidence and rouse the rest of the group behind this directive. Similarly, when they’re back at the school, Kaito can take cues out of Aoi’s tirelessly behind-the-scenes managerial work and listen to her concerns about their food supply and provide much needed help to cover the group’s needs. The way they share the burden of leading and caring for the group illustrates Survive’s ideal of a balance that allows both the harmony of the group and individuals to thrive— the burden of looking after a group shouldn’t fall on a single person. This stands in contrast to Aoi deciding to take it all on herself in Wrathful: being able to trust others with her burdens and worries and delegate work is essential for her healthier development in Moral.
Their differing stances also help illustrate the extremes in Survive’s dichotomy in the Wrathful and Harmony routes. Wrathful illustrates a kind of extreme, imposed Harmony that oppresses any dissent and threatens to erase any and all individuality.
The free-spirited optimist and the older serious-minded girl.
Saving the catalyst for the Wrathful route for last, we have our cheerful and radiant personality, Kimishima Saki. The very prologue of the game makes it clear that Aoi likes Saki quite a bit. There’s a palpable sense of admiration for her junior’s refreshing honesty that’s amicable, keen and direct in a way that still jives with Aoi’s personal values. It’s easy to see why Aoi, who struggles to assert herself, would marvel at those traits in Saki. Aoi’s high regard for her shows up again during her passionate defense of Saki in part 5, much to her junior’s delight and surprise. This admiration is very much mutual: for Saki, who struggles with her sense of belonging and relevance in her interpersonal connections, Aoi’s commitment to caring for the group stands as both an example to follow as someone who can easily adhere to a group’s harmony and nurture it as well as a comforting presence that makes her feel accepted and healed.
It’s no surprise, then, that a close bond blossoms between the two. Their relationship balances each other out on a personal level: Saki will actively seek to alleviate Aoi’s workload even when she doesn’t ask, as well as look after her so she doesn’t run herself ragged. Additionally, Saki is capable of comforting her when Aoi is beating herself down or is generally affected by the grueling situation they’re in, as seen when she patiently comforts her after Ryo’s death. Aoi will reign Saki back in (or try to) when her bluntness is crossing the line and will serve as her confidant and care for her as a whole person. It’s no hyperbole to say Saki is the only camper Aoi manages to open up and bond with on a deep level, and a key figure in her budding support system. It’s only natural, then, that losing her would break Aoi’s fraught mental stability.
The momentum of the Wrathful Route.
Why do Kaito and Saki run off on their own during the amusement park debacle in the Wrathful route? Why are they able to keep their cool in Moral and not here? To answer this, we need to take a look at the function of the Karma System beyond triggering Agumon’s evolutions and showing the timeline options during the part 8 split, as well as the meaning behind the Wrathful route.
The Karma system allows for a cumulation of momentum, so to speak. Karma shouldn’t be seen only as a straight-forward system of retribution and rewards for one’s actions and decisions, but as the conjunction of all the moving parts in the universe that allow the destiny of a person to be forged, which includes one’s legacy, community and the way one interacts with it. Digimon Survive uses this concept to shape the energy the group will move through each specific route. Simply put, it shapes the mood of the group. If one balances the Karma points for all of three options, then the group’s fate can go either way. If one leans heavily into any of them, then, that heavily restricts the fate the group is able to forge for itself.
What is that fate in the Wrathful route?
Let’s start by remembering the words of the man-behind-the-project himself, Habu Kazumasa, who states in an interview that the staff tried not to think of the different timelines as the bad ones or the correct ones, and rather gave a theme to each of them; the Wrathful route being about “acting on one’s emotions”  (citation pending lol). This is certainly reflected in the original name of the route itself: 激情, a term pertaining to passion: strong and/or violent emotions and convictions.
What this means for Survive’s narrative is that most of the group is favoring acting based on their individual drives and values, without prioritizing the unity of the group, which places Aoi’s harmony-based approach as the isolated attitude within it. This helps us make sense of Kaito’s hot-headedness getting the best of him, then, being an individual who already prominently acts based on his personal goals even if it puts him at odds with the group. It also informs Saki’s anxious emotions coming to a head with her impulsive urge to help out the vulnerable digimon at the park: while a noble effort, it’s informed by her antsy-ness with regards her sense of belonging, the meaningfulness of her existence and her fear of death. Aoi’s own failure to rouse the group behind a clear order reflects her being lost in her own strong fear as well as Miu’s similar mental block to open up the hidden throne room hidden pathway.
Saki’s tragic end directly parallels the cutscene containing the evolution of her Floramon into Vegiemon (lol). Back then, Saki still hadn’t experienced what it meant to truly belong in a group and to be able to interact beyond what she knows will outwardly, yet superficially, get her to be socially accepted. As a result, she wasn’t sure of the sincerity of her own emotions and actions towards others, doubting her own intentions when following Ryo around. What lies at the core of Saki’s teetering act between refreshing bluntness and faux pas leading to rejection is the isolation, and the social inexperience this brought as a result, her chronic illness has imparted Saki.
By contrast, when part 9 rolls in, Saki has experienced working together in a team for the sake of the communal good of survival. With stakes so high, she’s bound to feel united to the group. She has also gotten a taste of a deeper self-acceptance through her bond with Floramon, the budding confidence to be herself unabashedly through Takuma’s assurances, the group’s continued acceptance of her role in it and Aoi’s warm, intimate and caring support. She’s becoming someone who has a place in the world and can start acting based on values that go beyond herself, and this is what her self-sacrifice epitomizes: she’s no longer insecure or indecisive about her commitment to the group and the greater good.
Into the mist.
The Wrathful route is characterized by thorough elaboration on Aoi’s interiority and inner monologue. This allows us to see the inner turmoil, conflicting viewpoints and the full extent of her self-depreciation that she usually keeps behind locked doors while she spirals.
Upon Saki’s death, Aoi experiences intense guilt over failing to keep Saki safe, as she was her leader calling the shots and guiding her through the rescue efforts, for mistaking the kenzoku for digimon in need and for losing grasp of her hand during the tug-of-war deciding Saki’s death. She isolates herself from the group due her grief, her continuous ruminations over the mistakes she did consume her thoughts and prevent her from continuing her duties as their leader and her managerial work at their base.
Now that Aoi it’s out of commission, Kaito belatedly comes into full appreciation of the labored support Aoi has offered the group. Knowing Saki was her moral support, Kaito attempts to reach out to her in order to pay the favor back despite his advice to Takuma to give Aoi some space. Takuma’s timid, soft-spoken approach wouldn’t be befitting to challenge Aoi’s spiraling thoughts, so it’s up to Kaito’s more direct approach and his understanding of what it takes to shoulder such responsabilites to step up to the task.
He bluntly refutes her self-blaming beliefs, pushing her to recontextualize Saki’s death from her personal failure to something Saki had agency in. It’s during these exchanges that it comes to stark light how much of Aoi’s inner world never gets expressed to the others, as her replies to Kaito are merely a small fraction of all the swirling emotions and thoughts festering in her head.
While Kaito’s efforts aren’t completely fruitless, they run into the Aoi’s emotional wall and don’t manage to address her perfectionist beliefs before Harumode reappears to lure them into the library. The seed towards Plutomon’s black and white thinking is already taking root: Aoi can’t afford to let herself falter or make mistakes anymore in order not to lose anyone else, or it’d keep reflecting badly on her own integrity as a person. So she runs off on her own despite being antithetical to her own values. Kaito’s decision to go back to the group and gather them despite running off on his own being more in line with his usual Modus Operandi shows his commitment to keeping the group together and leading them in Aoi’s place, placing his development as a foil to Aoi’s spiraling.
The illusions Aoi sees within the library reflect that guilt is still ravaging her heart and fuel her self-berating back to full strength. However, Kaito’s words are not lost on Aoi and her thoughts soon start blaming Saki for own death, much to Aoi’s chagrin. Examining the root behind her reasoning reveals that just as much Aoi blames herself, she’s also intensely angry at the others for always taking unnecessary risks without sparing a thought for unity and responsibility. This touches on a sore spot for her, since being taken advantage of or having her authority diminished by others’ selfishness has been an open wound from before she even attended camp. Unable to bear being with other people, Aoi wanders into the misty woods to get lost further into her ruminations.
Each time Aoi replays the events in her head, another edge that hurts her seems to surface. Instead of coming to terms with Saki’s self-sacrifice, Aoi distorts it into a rejection of herself and her feelings. Instead of reaching the conclusion that she should’ve been more assertive out of a genuine growth in her confidence, the conclusion is fueled by her intense disgust over being the same always weak, flawed her of the past. Instead of learning to share the responsibility with her peers, she concludes she should’ve prevented other people from being wrong. Instead of understanding how her intense self-censoring stunts her growth and makes it near-impossible for her friends —specially for Kaito and Labramon at the time, the other key figures in her support system— to reach out to her and help her, she concludes bottling up everything was for the better. If everyone is already this selfish, adding to the pile would simply be unbefitting and irresponsible of her. This makes for a highly striking and effective portrayal of grief, with Aoi being unable to relentlessly revisit the event and find more and more shortcomings in herself and everyone around her. Her trust in others is fundamentally broken at this point.
Yet, despite her increasing mistrust of others, Aoi is finally able to internalize the depth of Labramon’s love and support for her. How could she not? Even though Aoi is at her most closed off and lowest mood, Labramon is still by her side, begging her to let her know the entirety of her heart. While a moving moment, this also symbolically marks the moment where Aoi has decided that the only beings she can trust are herself and her partner. This self-aggrandizing posture fueled by her self-loathing and guilt form the basis of Plutomon’s utter self-righteousness.
Her conviction that only her harmony-based posture and feelings are right to solve the conflict between humans and kemonogami, prompt her to take the extremely ill-advised decision to try to appeal to Piemon, as well as to cure him in a show of good grace. This, of course, backfires immediately, as Piemon brutally attacks her and her partner. This last ditch-effort for a pacific resolution of the conflict informs Plutomon’s posture that if she can’t talk others into Harmony, then she will just have to force them and it’s the last step into the complete corruption of her values and growth.
Death evolutions.
Who doesn’t love a good symbolic death in their narrative? Survive generously offers two for the price of one. However, Aoi and Labramon’s gruesome agony isn’t the only time death shows in Labramon’s evolution line. It’s finally time to look into the themes woven into Labramon’s evolutions and how they relate to Aoi’s character.
Starting with Labramon herself, what we can learn from her official profile and debut is that she’s a digimon with a duty. Being an artificial digimon means she was specifically created to fulfill a function, which is further cemented by the fact it’s a literal living vaccine program. Her only skill movement in-game is Cure Liqueur, a healing skill that aims to restore and optimize weakened data (put a pin on this). Her fierce loyalty and dutiful origins already fit Aoi to a tee.
In general, devotion to one’s duty is a key theme to Labramon’s evo line. Dobermon takes this a step further being a digimon whose only purpose is to hunt viruses. Originally consumed by viruses itself, its strong vaccine nature broke through and it learned to harness violence to fulfill its mission. This adult stage marks the start of a consistent theme in the evo line about harnessing monstrous power in order to fulfill one’s duties, much like Aoi needs to embrace assertiveness and authority to be able to properly respond to the situations before her and achieve her goals. This is also the first time the theme of death as transformation will show up in the evo line. Dobermon’s evolution dialogue encourages Aoi to take pride in her efforts and work to push her into this ever on-going journey of embracing her own agency.
Cerberumon is the guardian of the Dark Area, a duty that goes a degree higher in importance than solely hunting viruses, much like Aoi will eventually have to step up into the heavier responsibility to lead the group. Cerberumon’s ferocious appearance is remarked upon in the evolution dialogue: where Aoi openly admits her desire for power— power as having the agency, authority and self-confidence to assert herself—. Cerberumon’s words encourage her not to be afraid of using this latent power already present in her heart.
Anubimon, the other possible ultimate available to unlock in the vanilla routes, is the judge of the dark area, who weighs over fallen digimon’s data to either banish them forever or grant them the chance of rebirth. Its role as a fair judge relates to Aoi’s role as a leader who listens to everyone’s input so everyone can reach either a unanimous decision or call for a timeout so the group can put their feelings back in line. (ALSO. I couldn’t unlock it in my Moral run, so this as much as I can glean from lore and plot alone.) This position as a fair judge stands in direct opposition to Aoi’s pathos as Plutomon.
Now, onto the dramatic ultimate evolution of the Wrathful route: Plutomon. Plutomon it’s a virus executioner that’s known for attacking with intense terror and violence. It’s a Death God itself that governs tyrannically over the realm of the dead. Unlike Anubimon, who weighs digimons’ worthiness, Plutomon mercilessly slays anything it deems evil and takes pleasure in it. Its cruel nature is reflected in it having become a virus itself. All of this lore is directly reflected in Aoi’s Wrathful ethos: as Plutomon, she has cast off her humanity to transcend her weaknesses, becoming scheming and even taking pleasure in venting her pent up bitterness by playing her friends like a fiddle— both when she intentionally makes them waste time arguing with her while Miyuki is dying on the floor, and when she emotionally manipulates them into avenging her by fighting the Master. Plutomon’s tyrannical rule is reflected in Aoi’s utter self-righteousness, where any dissenting opinions are deemed mistakes she needs to strong-arm others out of. She’s reached the ultimate black and white vision of her ideals, convinced she’s being the best version of herself she could possibly be. Despite Aoi!Plutomon’s goals for perfect harmony and oneness, she has become the embodiment of violent convictions herself.
Plutomon’s evolution cutscene involves Aoi and Labramon slowly and painfully agonizing after being attacked by Piemon. Since the two are the healers of the group, their friends are unable to help them beyond fighting Piemon for them. This epitomizes the isolation Aoi has felt both in the human world and the kemonogami one: in the human world, she felt alienated because only she would get admonished for undone work as well as if she went the extra mile to get it done herself. In the kemonogami world, after losing Saki and thus having lost her own confidant as well as internalizing a sense of rejection from her self-sacrifice, she laments no one can understand her heart and look after her the same way she does for the group. In a morbid parallel to how she takes on all the group’s burden upon her shoulders, if Aoi wants to live, she alone will have to drag herself through the ground to reach her partner. Driven by her loyalty and duty to Aoi to the very end, Labramon does the ultimate act of self-sacrifice by using her remaining life energy to restore Aoi (very bittersweet use of the function behind Cure Liqueur! Incidentally, Plutomon’s self-healing ability forms part of this theme as well:where Labramon heals the party, Plutomon only heals itself). The evolution that takes place responds to Aoi’s heart passionately clinging to life as well as her inner turmoil. Thus, comes Aoi back to life in a terrifying miracle marked by her deep bond with her partner and all it represents. Plutomon is the most extreme externalization of her hidden unresolved struggles to open up, her perfectionism, her self loathing, repressed emotions and extreme morality.

Ok so
I'll ask a simple question: fav color?
Also, what got you into writing? I like hearing origin stories of hobbies, no matter how mundane they may be :)
I also take it you like Undertale and/or Deltarune, what got you into those games and their respective fandoms?
Would ask more but I don't wanna overwhelm ya :>
ooo ok.
colour? green and purple. i can't choose between them, trust me i've tried. i love them both for different reasons! both equally strong!
aaah writing? i've always been into telling and hearing stories (say that to the 2 school libraries i've eaten through) but funnily enough the thing that got me into writing stories? Undertale!! i had an eisteddfodd in my school i think i was in yr6, and i basically tried to write out the whole plot of Undertale for a story (it was required) and it was suuuuch a breaking point for me tbh. i still see elements in that recreation that have carried over into my writing style today- crazyyyy.
though my actual getting into writing came a bit later (around 2018 on Wattpad...an ErrorInk fanfic that i'm actually rewriting rn! that ship means soooo much to me) i consider it my like....catalyst into writing, even if it was super cringey.
Oof how i got into Undertale? oooh this one. so. like. Before i was into UT i was into other stuff, still games. Basically i was into FNAF and then YanSim (i know....i know....i hate that guy....i was like 10....) and i watched a lot of YT as well! OG YT kid. Chronic Dantdm fan (after this i kept on commenting on his vids asking him to play UT....HE DID. I TAKE PARTIAL CREDIT./hj). I watched Bijuu Mike and Kubz Scoutz for YanSim content and in one of these videos (a Bijuu Mike one) they showcased an easter egg in the game that was a reference to UT (the mouse and cheese bit) and Bijuu said something like 'oh this is from Undertale' and i was like ??? and looked up an Undertale playthrough and watched Jacksepticeyes one and the rest is history....
For Deltarune i was in the UT/UTMV fandom as it came out so i was in with the hype of it, pretty sure i watched Jacksepticeyes playthrough for it as well lol. and played it myself!
For specific UT/DR and UTMV fandom? oooh it was mostly Youtube comment sections. Comic Dubs and crappy AMVs that are just a slideshow with nightcore over it were my jam. When i went over to Wattpad it was pretty similar except now i had stories and ships i could get more immersed into (and the comment sections. good lird)
I also had Amino (i know. i shudder at the thought) and that was pretty good for fandom hubs. joined quite a few UT/DR/UTMV ones. Mostly joined bcs all the Animation Meme YTers were getting sponsered by it (i was also an animation meme kid. still animate sometimes!) but even at my tender age i knew that most of the fandom congregated on Tumblr (the comic dubs had links to tumblr blogs)....but i legit thought it was just a broken website cus i downloaded the app and it didn't work lollll. But hey. i'm here now. That previous experience actually got me to make my current account so. here we are.
DW about asking stuff lol its fun to look back at stuff that have literally shaped the man i am today. i mean it when i say stuff like UT saved my life.

8 shows to get to know me  I was tagged by @b1uetrees! Thank you for tagging me, I hope you're having a brilliant day with the flowers! 🌷🌻
I actually found this kind of hard to do, 'cause there are so many shows out there and many that I love. But I think I've narrowed it down to shows that represent different parts of me or were influential to who I have become. Also, I'm assuming by "show" it means TV shows and not musicals.
Tumblr media
1) Beyond Evil (2021) It's obvious. I'm not going to go into too much detail because a quick search on my tumblr and it becomes pretty clear what this story means to me. It's my favourite show- I think about it every day and have dedicated so many hours to it. It has changed me so profoundly and I feel like no matter how many times I view it, it still finds a way of enriching me. (Before BE, or BBE if you will, my tumblr was a pretty normal place and now, it's just a fanpage to this show lol). I'm so thankful that Netflix recommended this show to me. (for anyone who doesn't know: this is a really important, layered story that just makes any other mystery drama look silly in comparison)
Tumblr media
2. Luther (2010) I'm sorry Shin Ha Kyun but the Korean version of Luther is rubbish in comparison. THIS SHOW! Oh my goodness, I love it so much. It was everything to me throughout my late teens and I'm super excited that there are more episodes on Netflix. Honestly, the storytelling and parallels!!! and the use of the colour red really opened my mind to how one can visually tell a story. (It may be time for a rewatch and get scared all over again).
Tumblr media
3) Ted Lasso (2020) This is a new addition to my life. Back in 2021 when my partner wanted me to watch Ted Lasso, I outright refused because I didn't want to watch a TV show about football. BUT! But. But then the wonderful @loisroo kept hyping it up (rightfully so) and I decided to give it a go. I binged it at the beginning of this year and it was a beacon of hope during a difficult time. This story and its wonderful characters have reinforced so many life lessons that I tend to ignore. It helps me gain a better understanding of people and friendships, second chances and forgiveness, and when to ask for help. Ugh, it's beautiful and I'm so excited for season 3.

4) Merlin (2008) I mean... I've spoken about it many times so I won't go on and on. But I adore this show (yes, it's janky and awkward at times but that's part of its charm. Plus, Morgana did nothing wrong and I will always stand by that lol), it was the reason I started writing fanfiction. I- ughhhhhh. Yeah. It did a lot for me in my teens.
Tumblr media
5) Fleabag (2016) WOMEN. WOMEN WRITERS. WOMEN WRITTEN TO BE FLAWED AND BROKEN AND WRONG BUT STILL HUMAN AND STILL LOVING AND STILL TRYING AND STILL WANTING THE BEST DEEP DOWN EVEN IF THEY DO THINGS THAT HURT THEMSELVES. "I THINK YOU KNOW HOW TO LOVE BETTER THAN ANY OF US, THAT'S WHY YOU FIND IT SO PAINFUL" "I LOVE YOU" "IT'LL PASS" just AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Tumblr media
6) Skins (2007) Yes, it's cringy. Yes, it's kind of embarrassing for me to add it to this list. But this show really helped me throughout my teens. It showed teenagers being messy and making mistakes, hurting one another and themselves. It showcased mental health issues, poor relationships with parents, as well as focusing heavily on sexuality. Being a queer kid from a strict religious background, this show was important. And yes, it got really silly towards the end but there are still so many fantastic moments. It's not perfect but it doesn't have to be. Plus it gave me Dev Patel, which I am forever grateful for. (If anyone's interested, my favourite characters are Tony, Cook, and Katie. I love a troublemaker).
Tumblr media
7) Chernobyl (2019) Yeah, I probably should have put Game of Thrones in this slot but I'm still mad about it, so Chernobyl will take its place. What can I say? It's one of the best TV shows ever made (thank you Johan Renck and Craig Mazin)
Tumblr media
8) The Last of Us (2023) Yeah, I know. I can already hear people saying it's not even fully out yet and blahblahblah. Listen, this show is a form of therapy to me and I don't care. It's my favourite thing I've seen since Beyond Evil. (I may prefer it to the games..... 👀) (I'm happy this story exists. So thank you Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin)
(Some honourable mentions: Fruits Basket, Killing Eve, The Tribe, The Pacific, Vincenzo, Scott & Bailey, Silks, annnnnnd idk, there are loads)
Thanks again!!! 😊

I think my biggest problems with the ray defenders is the fact they admit to ignoring his bad actions because of the actor. They say loud and proud that they ignore how nasty he is because of who plays him and??? That’s embarrassing righty??? Why would you admit that publicly where everyone can read.
It’s super embarrassing but they don’t see it that way. I have an opinion about this that might be long so, incoming for one of my usual long rants.
I said awhile ago that it’s very disheartening to see that people who were hyping this show and saying how excited they were to see it break the typical mold are behaving. The way they’re not able to separate the character from the actor may look cute and silly to them, but it speaks a lot to the culture surrounding bl as a whole and shows that they’re not ready for shows that break the stereotypes of what a bl should be. Imagine how the actors themselves would feel or do feel seeing how their hard work is actually being pushed to the side just because they’re “cute” and “baby boy”. Like yes you’re saying he’s doing a good job, but in the same breath you are ignoring his work and saying to him “lol you’re a good actor but idc about your work I just like the way you look, that’s why I watch you.” That must be so hard to see.
When you’re constantly either excusing a characters for behavior that you know the show wanted you to see as wrong and/or immoral, it takes away from the very plot and core of the story. When you twist and turn every single thing happening on your screen to fit your own narrative, you’re doing a disservice to those who spent a long time working on the project. Now I’m not saying that you should hate a character for doing wrong, however you should at the very least acknowledge their wrongdoings without minimizing and excusing it. Again, when you ignore and minimize you’re not doing anything but telling the actors that the only reason you watch their shows is because you ship them with their pairing, and because you like the way they look. It’s embarrassing man. I’ve never seen something like this ever in my life if I’m being honest.
Another problem that occurred here was the theorizing. The theories got out of hand quickly, since this show is seen as a non typical bl, people started going crazy with theories. There’s nothing wrong with that but again, blatantly ignoring things that are right in your face isn’t doing anything but forcing the people who made the show get on Twitter and break shit down to you (that was embarrassing man cmon). They wanted something different so bad that they ended up creating their own show, and then started to hate and love characters based off of their own theories. Because of that, they will not be satisfied with how this show ends or moves forward, they already decided how it should end anonie.
Another thing as well, these people did not want a show that showcased real life. They wanted a show where their faves had sex in every episode, said cuss words and got drunk, and they wanted them to have minor issues that get solved with the power of love. Again, they already made the show in their head so when they see how it’s played out ehhh they’re not too happy with it.
But alas, these people are having a terrible time anonie because they are not watching this show to watch it oh no they are watching it to try and confirm their theories, and to see their faves have sex. Anyway! Mini rant over with, thanks for the question anonie <3

i’m on my first x files watch and just finished bad blood. the expectations were high bc i saw it hyped up in the fandom but i was disappointed. yeah it was funny but i didn’t like the alternate povs because i hate to think that’s how mulder and scully really see each. mulder was such a jackass from scully’s pov. and why did she wanna get with rick grimes
okay?
it's meant to be exaggerated and light hearted. if you watch the rest of the show you know they have the highest love and respect for each other but it doesn't mean they don't get on each others nerves.
mulder is a jackass from scully's pov because he canonically a jackass, just like scully is rigid and difficult to convince even when the truth is right in front of her. their behaviors aren't accurate to what really happened, esp mulder because scully is obviously stressed about the possibility of going to jail because mulder killed someone lol
and scully can want to fuck whoever she wants but i also like that arc because while obviously mulder is jealous of the sheriff he still tries to be a wingman for her bc he's her best friend first and foremost.
david and gillian have great comedic timing and it was rare for them to get to showcase that which is part of why the episode is so popular. they had fun filming that ep and it shows! also vampires 🧛‍♀️

i’m back! concert prep/performing has completely taken me out - especially trying to keep up with dday content. i’m almost five weeks out on my injury though so i got my cast off yesterday and my new walking boot 👏🏼. it’s a spring showcase so we’re performing every friday and saturday night from april to the end of may. it’s a few Bach pieces, Mahler, Vivaldi (my favorite), and Tchaikovsky - so mostly classical. but our maestro lets the newest member and the newest first chair pick a piece each so we’re playing a metal song as well - it’s actually really fun - and my pick was the Forest Gump Suite because i love alan silvestri - my dream is to score film. i was terribly nervous for the first show but the other first chairs, includjng sax, he can stop saying i’m the humble one, were really helpful and i feel good about it now. i’m so excited to hear you are playing your violin again and interested to know what project you are working on! it’s not the only instrument i play but it is by far my favorite.
in other news, i read cyc and girl… i needed a cold shower. tantalizingly destructive is what i’m calling it for now because my only other thoughts are “i have no think”. glad to hear you also had some 3tan breakthroughs and wishing you good writing vibes going forward.

RILEYYYY I’m so glad you’re recovering well. And that’s so cool that you’re one of the ones that gets to pick a piece??🥳 For anyone that doesn’t know Silvestri.. let’s just say he’s composed a lot of music you’ve probably heard before ehehe. Here’s to all the other showcase shows going well!
which mahler pieces are y’all playing? ofc vivaldi ughhh what a composer.. just the name itself is enough to describe his pieces.
SAX IS FIRST CHAIR TOO?? Damn. You’re both just cool like that, huh.. amazing. And yes! Playing it again has been fun and I really wanna shake the rust off lol. watching twoset has been a big influence on why I busted it out but the project is gonna be quite something, too.
ah…….. you read cyc, huh🧍‍♀️good to know that one was also a good read and HELL YEAH 3tan10 is coming along so damn nicely i’m hype‼️

P1Harmony Harmony: Set In album review
Unsolicited album review (p3!!)
I’ve been a p1ece since debut and I just get so excited about new music, no one asks for these nor cares, but I have fun doing it, so there. Hope everyone’s enjoying the album!!
Warning: long post [1.4k], I got carried away lmao.
Note - this is the first time P1Harmony has done the showcase first, then dropped the MV and then the rest of the album, the order does feel a little funny but it was actually really nice to hear two of the songs yesterday (they sang Better Together at the showcase as well as the title).
As always, I did keep up with the teasers, so it definitely won’t be a total surprise listening to the album. I feel like instead of spoiling it though, I got so hyped so I guess the teasers did their job alright. I also watched the showcase yesterday and heard both songs and I really liked both.
Bonus: Jiung helped write Better Together!!! Intak and Jongseob always have their rap writing credits but to see a composition credit is just such a joy, especially because we know how much Jiung likes writing music and how much pride he takes in it.
Back Down (+MV)
Alright first things first - holy shit the visuals!!!!! I loved the underground idk ‘lair’ or whatever you can call the hang out spot since they dropped the prologue. It’s amazing, the detail, the decor is perfect. I immediately thought of the Ninja Turtles when I saw it, and I had a good look around on the bird app and found other people had a similar thought so I guess maybe FNC was going for it? If it’s so obvious lol. But I love it so much; the guys said this album is about friendship and I totally see why there’s a sort of reference to the ninja turtles - they’re a cute bunch (of brothers) but also friends and they go on cool missions and stuff so the vibe is perfect.
Okay the song: I could tell from the few seconds we got as teasers that this was going to be a bop but omg it’s so much better than that, it’s a whole banger! (Keeho’s intro, sir, do you have something to say?) There’s something so satisfying about Jongseob’s hard ‘rr’ sound and I love the bass boom in the instrumental. (also the MV - they got super powers or something from getting electrocuted? fun!) Intak’s “bro!” took me out (actually his whole verse did but yea), then the MV transition where they jump up from the sewers to the metro was just so neat omg. I love the sort of New York setting they’re emulating, it really keeps up the reference to the Ninja Turtles. Keeho with those glasses and earrings, he actually looks like he time travelled from the 90s lol. The backpacks make them look like turtles I’m sorry I said it but I find it adorable.
RA TA TA TA!!!!!!
Tag yourself I’m the pizza person looking down in the sewer.
Jiung is out for my life, he serving too hard this era, everyone say thank you to the stylists. But also the styling is as usual so incredible and everyone looks amazing!!
Soul throwing the pizza at us, the trio against the moonlight and standing on top of the buildings? So very Ninja Turtles, my heart is happy haha (i love the ninja turtles, can you tell?)
Omg the little captions too, comic book feel, it’s fun. BUT THEN
Jiung driving (Jiung driving me insane, p1eces sound off if you’re alive)
SOUL LINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FINALLY
The pre-chorus is so long, what a build up, it’s like 3 different phrases? It’s dope.
The suits the suits the suits the suits also the little video game style thing when they’re “fighting” each other is so cute
Also I had this thought when I saw Keeho with this hair at the showcase yesterday - it really reminded me of something then I got it: he’s in his Rockhopper Penguin era, duh
Keeyang bridge - I love the way the instrumental gets so minimal, like yes, please we want to hear the vocals (ft Jiung losing his mind around the table lmao).
Intak’s ‘time to change it now’ - change what dude???!!! Also he looked like a cute school kid with that backpack lol I feel like I’m taking my kids to school when I see them with those massive bags haha.
The chorus of this song is so full of energy it’s definitely one of their biggest hype songs and that’s saying something.
I just checked how long the song is and it’s only 2:48?? It feels so much longer than that not just cuz of the video but like so much happens in it? anyway, interesting since it’s their shortest title track (all of the others are at least 3 mins long)
BFF
The instrumental touched my soul for a second. Speaking of which, SOUL LINES???!!!!!! YESSSSS my kid getting something after how long omg. The build up is beautiful. This is Yes Man’s younger, more playful sibling. That guitar? riff is ingrained in my heart now, no going back. Jongseob’s shimmy shimmy ah haha cute! This song is an instant serotonin boost I’m smiling so much. It’s so short though I need more!! So I’ll listen to it again sskskskskjdn
The ‘by your side’ harmony!! I want to dance, it’s so fun and cute omg. Jongseob’s singing yesss.
Secret Sauce
The intro????? i’m-
Beat is sick omg, the build up too. “future’s coming” interesting you should mention that.
Chorus took a totally different turn then I expected lol. The adlibs!!!! The gang vocals!!!! The whispering in the background behind the rapper’s verses holy shit, that’s cool.
Shimmy shimmy count x1000 aosfousduf
Taeyang please, have mercy, also that little ‘sauce’ adlib (i think it was actually Soul for some reason) before Keeho’s lines. What is that noise?? It sounded like an electronic xylophone or something wtf that was so cool
(in conclusion shimmy shimmy has me in a chokehold)
One and only
What????? The teaser didn’t do this song justice I say that like 20 secs in.
BOOM!
Funky lil instrumental, my beloved. Okay if BFF was related to Yes Man, so is this one, it’s like the funky cousin that is so loud but you love them anyway. Life of the party type of thing. BOOM! ZOOM! (i promised I’m not possessed by the music). SOUL LINESSSSSSS I’LL NEVER SHUT UP ABOUT THIS, KID’S DOING SO WELL!! The bridge, there’s so much going on in the instrumental holy shit. NANANANANANAANANA - you know a song is good when it has that.
Look At Me Now
(I really liked the Korean title, it’s something like “the child who swallowed the sun”?) just from the teasers I thought this might be one of my super all times favourite in the piwon catalog, let’s see if that’s true lol.
Jiung I’m on my last straw
THE GUITAR RIFF! INJECT IT INTO MY VEINS RIGHT NOWWWW
DRUMS HOLY HOLY HOLY OMFG
THIS GENRE IS SUCH A GREAT BLEND, ESPECIALLY FOR PIWON
Jongseob pop off my child :’)
“I’m on the top floor” - I’m somewhere in space, speeding toward the sun while listening to this song wbu (this is going to be my new 3am psychosis song lskdjosidsds)
SOUL LINES!!!
This is p1eces’ boxer/WWE theme song, y’know when they announce the contenders and stuff, and they come out to epic music? This is the song
Better Together
(heard this yesterday watching the showcase, it was lovely as a performance)
I love the rapper’s vocals!!
I feel like Taeyang really owns this for some reason - like in the chorus especially.
Piwon’s medium pop ballads are always top notch, they all have that softness and upbeat chord progression that’s like sunshine on a rainy day.
I want an acoustic performance for some reason - I totally see this with a bunch of guitars and maybe around a camp fire?
SOUL LINES!!!!
Piwon harmonies!!!!!
*
In conclusion, Piwon have a god tier, no-skip discography and when kpoppies find out about them it’s over for everyone. I don’t know how they do it, like every album they put out is consistently brilliant and they manage to stay fresh and do different things while keeping that distinct p1harmony flavour, I really wonder what they put in the fish cake water.
I’m not a person who likes the obsessive fan culture with voting and streaming but honestly I would hope that there’s some way to give piwon a win, they more than deserved it for this whole year, every album/title was incredible and they’ve done so much, I’m so proud of them.
I really hope the guys can have some time off since they really had such a busy year, 3 albums, a tour, extra performances and all the harmony forest stuff too, holy shit, it’s really insane, but it was also so amazing and I hope they’re proud of what they’ve accomplished so far.
anyways, I love p1harmony and I hope you do too <333

fight/action scenes
"FITE, FITE, FITE"
i've never been a huge fan of action fight scenes, tbh i find most of them boring and unnecessary to the plot. tho recently i come to enjoy fight scenes that showcasing the character's growth and personality - basically fights that develops and enhances the story.
i guess it's more of a personal taste, i love stories that centres around the characterisation of its characters. if i love the characters i will fosho will be captivating in whatever plot they are in.
recently i have been watching witch from mercury and surprisingly i got super hype for the action sequences the anime has to offer. and it mainly how the development of the character are conveyed through the action scenes. very hype but also very captivating and meaning(?)
in contrast, an example of fights being unnecessary is jujutsu kaisen latest episode (s2ep8), tho the fight itself was meh imo, it was the aftermath of it which is of importance. yuuji characterisation as someone who wants to honour the dead, as someone that is seeking out the right reason(s) to live while waiting for his impending doom. i think the fight was dragged on for too long lol, defo felt shorter in the manga.
yea just me babbling about action in media and how i view them

i should’ve done this last night bc i would have remembered it better but anyways,,
i watched banyaro dream match duel gig advent! made the last minute decision to buy the archive stream last night and it was so worth it! the stream was available internationally which was a surprise since most of the stuff i watch is japan only and i have to vpn my way in (which apparently just got harder, thanks dmm). the performances were amazing and i love how both bands were hyping each other up the entire time and even doing each other’s backing vocals at some point. here’s some random fun stuff i remember
- they showed drama clips at the beginning and the end, like it looked like in-game content. i wasn’t expecting any seiyuu content at all aside from the vocalists (the rest of the members during the live aren’t played by the seiyuu so they don’t speak) so i was surprised. reminded me how much i miss the game lol
- yamato struggling to pronounce ‘advent’
- yamato wearing blue socks to show his support for osiris, meanwhile kyo said he was wearing black socks and red didn’t go with his outfit (i think yamato said blue doesn’t go with his but he wore it anyway? but i might be wrong). yamato then realizing he showed his socks on camera and told the audience not to reupload it anywhere
- they acknowledged the people watching the livestream through the internet! and that they were streaming worldwide!
- idk if it was just me but tsubasa’s hair seemed a little longer than it was in-game. which i thought was cute
- showcasing the merch (towels, wristbands, etc.) and ray wearing three masks (like, on top of each other). this is funnier knowing that he wasn’t wearing a mask before (he takes them off shortly after) and no one on stage was wearing them (the audience was though)
- speaking of audience. at the start of bloody masquerade kyo pops up in the audience and runs through them, touching hands (he actually holds hands with like two or three people and straight up hugs one or two people as well; i wonder how these people are doing now lol i would’ve passed away). he pretty much sings like half the song at least while going through the audience
- osiris covering guru guru magic and blast covering whiz. yamato doing an asahi impression and being spot on
- yamato being eternally 17 and kyo being eternally 20
- raphael shows up and does lucifer d (with osiris as accompaniment) i was so shocked,, i remember him being one of my faves when i played the game and i would loop lucifer d all the time so i was shook
- just all the guys having fun together especially when one band was playing the others would wander around the stage; at some point yamato and kyo would go around with cameras and the members would post with each other it was so cute
anyway this gave me an extremely needed serotonin boost i love banyaro and will be looking forward to the next live
