finally playing the sword & shield dlc (yes i’m a little late to the party lmao) and woooow crown tundra is so much more enjoyable than isle of armour
#maybe it’s just because i’m stuck in the stage of leveling kubfoo and the only other thing to do in the meantime is the diglett quest#hey you know what would be fun for the players? spotting a dozen sight variations on the ground in a sandstorm!!!#also the dynamax lair thing in crown tundra?????? VERY FUN and basically just free legendaries#they just tell you where to find giratina and you do 4 fights and don’t have to worry about catch rates??#tbf i did lose again kyurem but then you can just retry at any time and it doesn’t cost you ANYTHING#i also really like the fact that they give you pokemon to choose. takes a lot of the stress out of it for me#ANYWAY so it’s rough having to choose legendary forms#i wanna go with the darker type for everything all the time lmao#like i’m gonna get the ghost horsie. but i’m still trying to decide for urshifu#i think i might actually go with water. but dark is cool 😭😭😭#tbf i can just use a different switch profile to get the other one and then transfer it but it’s not the same yknow. only one is my choice#anyway idk. i’m having fun. i played for like 8 hrs straight yesterday OOPS#trying to work out the regi puzzles tho….regirock was very obviously an everstone but i’ll have to think abt the others#(NO SPOILERS IM DOING IT MYSELF)#and then i have to choose electric vs dragon right? fml#i’ll probably go electric because my strongest pokemon are more dragons#but i know regieleki is the competitive choice and more ppl take it so i feel bad for regidrago lmaooooo#whatever that’s a choice for later. the only choice i have to make right now is where to plant my carrots and im going with ghost for that#IM GOING GHOST GUYS#personal

Okay so a few things about the ending to the DLC. Spoilers below obviously
-Really REALLY disappointed they didn’t go with the whole toxic possession arc thing with Kieran and the new mythical (Pecharunt?) TO BE FAIR that was more of a fan theory than anything but it was one that made a lot of sense and had a lot of evidence to back it up. I guess I got too attached to the idea and was inevitably let down when the game didn’t go in that direction. Still it would have made more sense to give that extra edge as to why Kieran’s treating everyone so awfully,, and having him finally break free of that control during the final fight VS Terapagos would have been SO sick. Either that or before we even get to Terapagos Carmine calls Kieran out and that’s when he finally fucking explodes and rages and vents about his inferiority complex—and THAT is what summons Pecharunt, those negative feelings that it probably feeds off of or smth idk. Then we’d get a split second of Kieran finally being back in control and begging for help. And then Carmine realizing her brother has been under the influence of this Pokemon the entire time and. Okay I’m getting off track into AU territory now lmao sorry moving on
-Switching back to the Terapagos fight, I really enjoyed it! It wasn’t too long of a fight to be drawn out, but it was just long enough that it didn’t feel anticlimactic (also the MUSIC? STELLAR. Pun intended). ALSO ARGHFHH the five stages of grief Kieran goes through in that fight to finally accepting that he’s been going about this the wrong way and has been an awful friend and the way the LIGHT COMES BACK INTO HIS EYES I ALMOST CRIED. This is 10000x more emotional and powerful if you choose to bring Ogerpon with you and fight with her bc that really just. Hammers in the fact that despite all the bad blood and bitterness, Kieran still chooses to fight alongside you and the Pokemon he coveted so much…AND he even processes things enough to fully let go of all his hatred and anger and allows you to catch Terapagos because he KNOWS you’ll take good care of it and after all this time he still trusts you even though he’d probably hate to admit it. #GOOD WRITING
-Something really scary I realized. Kieran brought a Master Ball with him to catch Terapagos. 1. Where did homie even get that. 2. The fact that he was READY and didn’t even give Terapagos a chance to react, that he was essentially catching it against its will (which probably led to its power going out of control), that he was enforcing his own twisted desires and beliefs onto it and not considering its feelings (sound familiar? Looks at Ogerpon). BOY. 3. We’ve only ever seen ONE other person use Master Balls in SV. The AI Professor. I don’t know if this is significant in any way but if the Pecharunt theory WAS true that would make them so so similar and that’s eerie to me. Two characters controlled by something greater than them that they can’t fight…can you imagine how INSANE the dynamics would be listen to me
-Another thing I was kinda disappointed about was Briar? I guess I was just picking up on the vibes that she was actually a villain and would try to steal Terapagos from the player, but I probably gave Nintendo too much credit on that one lol. I do like that she’s not inherently evil, she’s just too absorbed and obsessed with her research to really pay attention to what’s going on around her. BUT. They should have pushed that WAY further. Either commit and do the full villain arc where she snatches Terapagos from Kieran right after he catches it to use it for her own purposes, or pressure him into Terastallizing it so much that it makes him uncomfortable. I want to see Lusamine levels of unhinged obsession. What she had was just a little bit too excited about Area Zero, not a full blown unhealthy and dangerous thing that puts everyone around her in danger.
-Following up on that. Drayton. I kept expecting him to also go villain arc IDK LOL I guess I want everyone to be gay do crime in this DLC 😂 But I seriously kept thinking he was just using the player to knock Kieran off his thrown so he could take it right back from us. But no he actually genuinely cared about Kieran and kept pressuring us to beat the Elite Four so WE could knock some sense into him since Drayton wasn’t strong enough to do it himself. Which is a very sweet sentiment, I think :’) But am I the only one who was like bro calm down right after the fight where he was getting up in Kieran’s face and calling him ex-champion…..either he’s way too honest and doesn’t realize he was being cruel OR he was doing it on purpose to be a silly goober (but everyone else was like DUDE. LOW blow.)
-I still have questions. HELLO. HELLO. The notes in Area Zero mentioned the professor meeting a child with a white(?) book? Is that the Scarlet/Violet book? We still don’t know how the whole time travel paradox happened and why Heath talked about meeting Paradox Pokemon DECADES before the professor even brought them to Area Zero through the time machine? What is with the weird ass crystal tree sitting in the middle of a lake in the depths? Is there any significance to the Crystal Pool in Kitakami being connected to terastallizing and Area Zero? I’M JUST. AGHHH. I’m fairly certain we’re getting more content, maybe an epilogue to the DLCs but I’m going CRAZY I NEED TO KNOW NOWWW
-Also isn’t Area Zero like. Top secret hush hush. Why did Geeta let Briar publish a whole ass book about the HIDDEN SECRET of Area Zero that was miles under a closed off SECRET lab. I thought they were denying Briar access to Area Zero for YEARS, probably because they didn’t want her blabbing to the public. Idk. Maybe my memory is fuzzy on that one. Just feels very contradictory fhhdd
-The small little subtleties of Kieran regaining his regular personality as we went down….I ADORED that. His little smiles and him unable to contain his childish excitement and Carmine smiling at him with a knowing look bc after all this time her brother is FINALLY acting more like himself. And Kieran trying to brush it off like “wh-whatever” like he’s some sort of edgy teenager pretending he doesn’t care. GAHHHH it was so cute I wanted to cry 😭
ALL IN ALL it didn’t QUITE meet my expectations but it was still really good, especially considering this was all DLC content. Nothing will ever EVER top the main story of SV but the entirety of TTM and TID came pretty darn close. Kieran my sweet baby boy my blorbo I’m so glad you got your redemption arc and that you finally came to terms with your perception of strength and how it affects others. Baller DLC Nintendo do it again 👏

goh starter trio meta perhaps? i was ensnared by the goh-scorbunny parallel subpoint in the cubone meta bc i'm making myself unwell thinking about how scorbunny latching on to goh and goh latching on to ash.... but also more generally, sobble's whole thing and the absolute tearjerker drizzile evolution episode, and goh's weird ass dream about his rillaboom parents and then waking up to baby grookey clinging to his arm, you get it, i know you're galaxy brained about this
YESSS I AM *SO* GLAD YOU ASKED!!
so my tl;dr here is that all of the galar starters represent something about goh specifically relating to his childhood. their growth and eventual evolution (or lack thereof!) therefore serve to highlight his character development (as an aside, i think this is a very common theme in anipoke. ash's pikachu not evolving speaks to the fact that ash's growth isn't about becoming someone new but about staying true to himself and embracing a battle style that reflects the creative ingenuity that, in the early os, other characters mocked him for. similarly, dawn's piplup chooses not to evolve because it doesn't want to change how things are between them. does this not seem fitting for the partner of someone like dawn, who has always admired her mother so much that she never even considering doing something other than following in her footsteps? i'm sure there are other examples, but these seem to me the most obvious ones!).
let's break down each one, then!
scorbunny
when we meet scorbunny, goh is still determined that mew will be his first pokemon. this is a point of stubbornness that, while impressive and arguably kind of admirable, is frankly kind of stupid. how is he supposed to get to mew without any pokemon to help him? there's an interesting implication in this resolution, which jn004 and jn005 really highlight for us - goh isn't comfortable with having a pokemon. he knows a lot about them, is interested in researching them, but as far as the bond between pokemon and trainer goes, i don't think he feels prepared for that. it's easier to pick a target that is far from reasonably attainable for him at this point, especially since he does have some history with mew - didn't it take an interest in him? didn't it give him a reason to chase after it?
so meeting scorbunny, he's obviously not thinking about catching it. but he lies to the guy at the scone stand, in an interesting parallel to how scorbunny steps in to protect the nickit. he doesn't even seem to know why he does it. but just before that scene, he sees scorbunny wipe some of the dirt off its face. he doesn't get the whole story and connect all the dots until after, but i think he realizes then that scorbunny is trying to hide itself in some way. that it's performing as something it's not. and on some unconscious level, that motivates him to lie for it. after, we get this whole exchange, where the scone seller tells ash and goh the story
Tumblr media
and this note is what makes goh get up and approach scorbunny and the nickit:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's very symbolic that he wipes the mud off scorbunny's face. and then later, he even points out when they see it again that it looks better without all the mud covering it up - it looks more like itself. it's not pretending to be something it's not. goh wiping the mud off its face is him saying that he accepts it as it is. that being resigned to living a certain way just to fit in or just because that's how it's always been is pointless.
and i mean...even ash says in this scene that the things goh is saying are things he's only recently learned himself, right? goh denies it (and tbh when he says that he's always thought the world is big and anyone can explore it if they want to or whatever - i don't think that's untrue! i think it's just that, prior to meeting ash, he didn't have it in him to explore it), but ash has a point. and what goh is doing for scorbunny here is the same thing that ash did for him.
relatedly, scorbunny follows him, right? in the same way that goh "accepts" ash as his friend, scorbunny chooses goh as its trainer. goh recognizes that it travelled far for him, that it saw a vision of its future with him, and changes his mind about not catching it. i think the determination he saw in scorbunny to chase after its dreams resounded with him, because he's only just started doing the same thing. and his entire character is built around this idea of like, learning how to adapt and how to let other people help you find the courage to chase your dreams (and even to help you chase them). how could he possibly deny scorbunny the same thing?
but while scorbunny's enthusiasm helps motivate goh to chase his dreams, he is very flippant and dismissive, as we see when it learns ember and he says it doesn't matter, that scorbunny doesn't need to know a fire-type move and this gut-punch of a line, of course:
Tumblr media
goh is someone who needs a lot of convincing to do things he doesn't think he'll be good at (or enjoy). he only joins project mew because gary goads him into it. he spends most of his life refusing to make friends, because he had one bad experience. he's a fairly black-and-white thinker, which makes sense considering his background. he doesn't really believe in change. he especially doesn't believe that people (or pokemon, in this case) can change their circumstances just through hard work and determination. as we see in jn003 with the ivysaur, he also doesn't think that it's anyone else's place to intervene and "help" others. if you can't change something, then don't. and there's no point in hoping it'll change on its own, either.
when scorbunny storms off here, his expression is interesting. this isn't the expression of someone being judgemental. it's the expression of someone who sympathizes.
Tumblr media
he sees scorbunny trying so hard to do something he thinks it can't do and thinks that scorbunny's determination to change things is, if i had to guess, kind of immature. a lesson scorbunny will have to learn, whether it wants to or not. at first it's kind of endearing, but then he actually gets frustrated, because he feels like scorbunny's determination to learn ember is harmful to them both. here, there's a degree of "why won't you just trust that i know what's best for you?" for sure, but on a deeper level, i think that stems from a place of "can't you see that i'm just trying to protect you?"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...but obviously, all he really does is wind up lashing out and hurting scorbunny's feelings. he tells ash that he was trying to draw out scorbunny's strengths (and he was, by telling it to use moves it was already good at!), but ash points out that their values weren't aligned and that's kind of the opposite of strength when it comes to pokemon battling. so he reassesses the situation and finds a way to bring out scorbunny's strength that also aligns with what scorbunny wants. that compromise is what makes scorbunny evolve. it was the right call! but then raboot starts ignoring him.
and this is like. a running gag with scorbunny - goh gets distracted by other things and doesn't notice that it's trying to show him things. it happens when they meet and it happens again in this episode with its ember. we see something very similar with goh and his parents in jn032 when he's excited at the prospect of their vacation together, but when he tries to ask what they want to do, he turns around and find they're both asleep (and we see the flashback of something similar happening last time, too).
with raboot, in a lot of ways, goh is grappling with...himself. or at least, the person he was before he met ash - cold and distant, more interested in doing whatever he thinks is worth his time than in school, for example. so if goh saw his child self in scorbunny, he sees his more "adolescent" (i mean. he's still ten so still child, technically. but older child lol) self in raboot. and he actually responds to this in a way that's a lot like how we see his parents responding to him. in jn022, we see him
buy a bunch of apples for raboot, even though he thinks it doesn't need them (and is hurt when it doesn't let him have one, despite raboot seeming pleased that he bought them for it). compare to the device he shows horace in jn032, for example, which he says his parents built for him. or his six computer monitors. his parents reach him best through material means!
question why raboot hates him when it's not responsive to his overtures. contrarily, goh's parents don't think he hates them; they just automatically assume the worst case scenario (like in jn015 when he calls and they immediately wonder if he did something and got kicked out of the institute). but while that's their worst case scenario about him, raboot hating him is kind of goh's worst case scenario, right? it took him time to open up and accept scorbunny as his partner. now that it's evolved and is acting differently, he's terrified that he came to care for it only for it to leave him.
which leads to my last point here, which is that he doesn't actually ask what it wants. in this episode, he concludes that raboot would be happier without him. so he leaves it behind, but he never actually considers how it might feel. goh's parents do the same thing! they worry about him, but they don't share their concerns or ask how he feels. they just assume that he must feel a certain way and they adapt to compensate for that. but they never actually ask him what he wants.
this episode ends with him realizing that he hasn't been reacting to raboot's feelings so much as to his own, of course, and we see their relationship smooth out quite a bit. he's acknowledging that he's done things wrong, but also that it's not all his fault - and raboot's change in temperment is just a consequence of it evolving. they accept each other again and move on.
then, it evolves into cinderace and kind of opens up again more (though it's been doing that little-by-little since jn022). i think the fact that raboot and riolu evolve at the same time was a really cool move by the writers to kind of demonstrate how like...the relationship between ash and goh is reflected in the growth of their pokemon. they trained together! in a way they kind of grew up together! riolu, ash's token baby pokemon in jn, evolving at the same time as goh's starter feels like a very deliberate choice to highlight how ash helped goh's pokemon grow, too - through getting the ball rolling with how he helped goh grow as a person and a trainer. if that makes sense?
anyway, i don't have much to say about cinderace, other than that if he saw himself as a child in scorbunny and as an older child in raboot, then cinderace's level of openness and its enthusiasm aren't just reflexive of it getting back more of its scorbunny-esque personality - it also shows how goh has changed and has learned to embrace these parts of himself, now that he's in that "coming of age" age (well, for pokemon. he is still only ten lmao).
i think we see something similar with his other starters, though maybe a little less on the nose.
sobble
the drizzile episode, as you mentioned, is probably Thing here. but i think the theme with sobble is sort of that, where scorbunny maybe reflects more of the way goh thought about growing up and his aspirations (and how hard it was to open up to people), sobble more so mirrors his social experiences at school and with chloe.
VISUALLY, i think it's really telling that when goh catches sobble, he's...literally speaking to it from the other side of the water:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this whole episode (jn028) is about goh kind of...forcing sobble into positions it's not necessarily comfortable with, and not realizing that it's uncomfortable until it runs away from him. as we saw with raboot, this is a common theme with goh - but it's most obvious with sobble!
he realizes, of course, and says this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
even in flashbacks, goh never comes across as a shy kid. he doesn't exactly relate to sobble, but i think he's drawing a parallel here between them. he wasn't shy, but he was always on the "outside" - that's why he's so good at researching. he strives to see things as they are without getting involved. eventually, this is something that will make him a pretty thoughtful and strategic battler, though at this point he's still learning how to apply that to more than just research for the sake of research.
and then after sobble meets inteleon, we have these bits too:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
goh's childhood motivations on the surface appear to be like...he doesn't want to bother with friends, because they aren't going to be able to serve a purpose for him. he isn't interested in making friends with anyone who is less into pokemon than he is. but after what happens with horace, it seems to get a little more complex, and then we have to wonder if his motivations really were that surface-level to begin with, or if, maybe, his policy of not making friends has always been a way for him to protect himself from betrayals like he experienced with horace.
we see chloe as early as jn001 trying to convince him to make friends, to no success. she doesn't even refer to herself as his friend - he doesn't seem to be willing to let her. he believes he doesn't need friends and is better off alone. but he doesn't realize until after meeting ash that his solitude is more of a self-imposed exile, in that it's hurting him more than other people. he can't improve as a person and reach his goals if he's too busy trying to protect himself to accept that he needs help from other people to do those things. so, again - i think he sees that side of himself in sobble. so it feels very impactful that he reaches out to help sobble become a better battler, but rather than forcing it to battle in a way that makes sense to him, he comes up with a way to have it train that plays off of its strengths of running and hiding.
and then, of course, there's the episode where sobble evolves, jn062. the writers themselves do most of the work here of drawing the parallel between goh's childhood and how drizzile is feeling, but i think it goes even deeper than that. drizzile is unhappy because it wanted to evolve into inteleon, not into drizzile. it's not comfortable in its own skin. and it doesn't necessarily want others to see it, because it feels like it's still growing and it's not ready yet. it kind of just...needs time to sulk and brood. drizzile runs away again, because it's not ready, and while they're looking for it, it's chloe who makes goh start thinking about when he was a kid, by saying this:
Tumblr media
which prompts him to think about how he was searching for a "reason" for why drizzile was acting how it was, just like how adults used to demand reasons from him even when he didn't have them. and then of course we get this scene:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but i think he does on some level know why, because he talks immediately after this about how his parents weren't home and often felt lonely. he's more comfortable being alone. he's protecting himself. which is reinforced by the fact that he then tells drizzile this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
goh has a hard time putting his feelings into words, which is something we see throughout jn. he sees that drizzile is the same and this is a huge moment for him, because he's saying here that it doesn't matter what inspired its feelings; he understands it is experiencing those feelings and that's enough. he'll wait until it's ready to fully process them or whatever else it needs. drizzile kind of returns the favour when he starts crying here and it reaches up to brush away his tears, then disappears again.
overall, this episode does an amazing job of showing us how goh has become someone who actually acknowledges his and his pokemon's feelings - this is the only time we see him as a child where he's not doing something to try to ignore his feelings, or trying to walk away from them. in flashbacks, his back is often to his parents. in jn032, he gets upset, and then tries to cover his disappointment up immediately with anger and avoidance. the writers set this scene up so that we can see the reason behind his feelings clearly (just like we can see the reason behind drizzile's, even though goh and co. can't), but they rightly emphasize that goh's ability to analyze "why" he or his pokemon are feeling a certain way isn't always helpful. emotions are meant to be felt, not intellectualized. it's a good message, and a huge area of growth!
drizzile's evolution into inteleon also shows us how this acceptance translates into it eventually being comfortable enough to be who it wants to be. and the characters are impressed by it - it even earns kecleon's admiration, the same way that other inteleon earned its when it was a sobble. this is a pretty clear mirror with goh's social life, where he went from being this friendless outcast figure to someone with a lot of friends, and a great willingness to make more, as he became more comfortable and confident and willing to reach out to others.
and lastly,
grookey
the only one of the three that doesn't evolve, for reasons that aren't ever really made clear to us. but i think that as random (...and tone deaf) as his dream sequence at the start of grookey's debut episode is, it actually makes a lot of sense. in the original, the dream has camille and walker transformed into rillaboom, and goh is understandably freaked out. but i think the bigger, more symbolic thing is that even if it is a dream, his parents are the ones that foist grookey upon him. this does seem like a really weird choice, until you start thinking about the parallels, right?
in reality, grookey is team rocket's pokemon. the episode title "when a house is not a home" tells us that grookey obviously doesn't feel like it "belongs" there. but the episode doesn't open in team rocket's base. it opens in goh's apartment. and the part i didn't show in the drizzile scene above is when he says this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the fact that goh was home alone a lot as a kid gets brought up fairly often. it implies that he kind of had to adopt this lone wolf persona, because there was no one else around to take care of him. he had to learn how to console himself and meet his own needs (hence why he's so combative about ash intervening with the ivysaur in jn003!), which is a lot of responsibility for a kid. grookey is handed to him like it's a responsibility in his dream, but then they bond. and he starts to appreciate having grookey around, to the point that he misses it when it returns to team rocket.
to me, the choice to have grookey not evolve kind of comes down to grookey being kind of...emblematic of goh's childhood. like, in his dream, grookey is this burden that's forced on him. someone he has to take care of, even though he isn't really prepared to do that. in reality, grookey is escaping from an environment that doesn't meet its needs. putting those two things together, i mean...that's just my reading of it, anyway. so grookey not evolving, and goh accepting grookey as it is - without any of the "growing up" analogs we have with cinderace and inteleon - is a way of showing that goh has come to terms with his childhood and that he accepts (and cherishes!) his childhood self. which he can only really do after he's done all the growing we see reflected in the evolutions of his other starter mons. (relatedly, grookey is the only starter of goh's who goh considers leaving with other mons in its evolution line. specifically, with two thwackey and their child, i.e. a family unit not unlike goh's!)
anyway! this is a very long post, so thanks for sticking with me if you did. hope my takes are as galaxy-brained as you hoped hehe

For the anon Pokémon asks: which battle subway conductor is the cutest?
Okay, this may get long, so bear with me.
First, a little disclaimer: Ingo and Emmet both make me feel incredibly seen. I was born in 1989 and wasn't diagnosed with autism until 2009, and I never got to see characters like me. I'd see some who were similar to me, or some with things in common with me, but Ingo and Emmet feel like looking in a mirror to me, to the point that I don't go in the Submas tag because I've seen too many people perpetuating the ableism that got me bullied as an undiagnosed autistic kid. Every time an autistic or autistic-coded character is portrayed as "weird" or "off-putting" or "too intense" or "scary," it's repeating things that my bullies used to excuse their behavior towards me and essentially treat me and my autism as entertainment. Most people aren't doing this, of course, but since I'm in the process of working through a lot of that trauma, I choose not to take the chance of exposing myself to it because I'd rather heal instead of open old wounds again and again.
Anyway, with that said, I adore them both, but only one of them makes me act like a giddy teenager.
Tumblr media
I have the most ridiculous fictional character crush on Emmet. It's unreal. Part of that is likely the fact that if he was real we'd actually be extremely compatible, but unfortunately for me, he is not, and so I can't take him on locomotive photo charter dates and kiss him on the City Hall looparound on the 6 Train. That aside, here's what I genuinely like about the goober.
He's deeply passionate about what he loves.
It's that passion that often gets people like him and me labeled as "too intense," but when he likes something, he really likes something. Battling is like air to him. When you befriend him in Masters EX, you find he'll actually talk your ear off about battling if you give him the opportunity. He vibrates with excitement when he sees strong trainers.
Tumblr media
[Image description: Emmet and Ingo, two adult identical twin men with knife-shaped sideburns wearing exaggerated versions of railroad conductor uniforms, stare off to the left at people who are off-screen. Emmet, in a white uniform, is holding his hands at his sides but his hands are in an excited, almost 'grabby' position; Ingo, in a black uniform, also has his hands at his sides but his hands are balled into fists. Ingo's Excadrill, a Pokemon that looks like a mole combined with a tunneling machine, stands in front of him. End description.]
In this screenshot from Masters EX, Emmet and Ingo have just run into Steven Stone and Roark. Emmet is barely holding back, and you can tell by looking at his hands. He wants to battle now. It's delightful that he's in a franchise of video games where that passion is normalized and encouraged. (As long as he never visits Paldea, anyway. Nemona is proof of how well that would go.)
Battling makes Emmet genuinely so happy and excited and I love when people get that way about their hobbies. It's so nice to see passionate people. Emmet even says he's excited about it when you battle him in Black and White and beat him at the highest level possible:
"I am Emmet. I am a Subway Boss, but I lost against you again. But I feel good. Because it was very fun! You want to win, and I don't want to lose. That's real. When we clash in battles, I feel very excited!"
[Source]
He lives for this, so much that even losing a really intense, serious battle feels good. And it's a delight. But, of course...
Tumblr media
[Image description: Emmet, described above, claps his hands together excitedly and says "Winning a serious, hard-fought battle is the best feeling in the world!" with a huge smile on his face. End description.]
...he, in his own words, likes winning "more than anything else."
He's verrrry direct in his communication...but also verrrry supportive.
Autistic folks are often told we're too blunt, and to neurotypicals, who are used to saying things more indirectly, we can come off as a bit...too direct to them, to say the least. Arguably the best example of Emmet doing this is in the PokeSpe manga, where he just says things without a filter.
Tumblr media
[Image description: a manga panel in which Emmet bluntly tells trainer White, "Yes, we're studying you as an example of a trainer who gets overwhelmed and loses every single match." The next panel leads off with Ingo saying "That's not nice, Emmet..." End description.]
But that bluntness isn't intended maliciously, he just has no filter and says what's on his mind. In reality, he's delightfully supportive and friendly, and that honesty leads to the most wonderful exchanges with him:

[Image description: two screenshots of Emmet from Pokemon Masters EX, smiling softly. His dialogue reads, "Hi, Steph! Your smile is always the best. Perfect! Whenever I see you, I can't help but smile, too! I'll have to make sure my smile is just as good as yours!" End description.]
As a side note, this dialogue has been destroying me for over two years now, and every time I boot up the game and he says this I feel my face get warm. He's actually helped me stop being self-conscious about my smile.
He has a habit of listening in on things, even if he has no intention of gossiping or anything. He just likes knowing stuff.
It's a habit he seems to share with his brother, but Ingo is significantly less obvious and more apologetic about it. Emmet's just really funny about it.

[Image description: two manga panels and one screenshot from Masters EX. The first manga panel shows Emmet marching over to White and Bianca as they have a discussion, saying, "I'm overhearing an interesting discussion over here. It seems profound, so I'm going to stand nearby and listen in. Oh, don't let me distract you. Go on. Keep talking." The second panel shows Emmet cupping his ear with his hand and still attempting to listen in on the discussion from one subway car away, with Ingo standing behind him. The screenshot from Masters EX shows Ingo hiding his eyes with his hat and saying, "I apologize for eavesdropping, but we happened to overhear your conversation at the Pokemon Center" as Emmet stands beside him, hands on his hips and smiling with no shame. End description.]
He doesn't use the information maliciously, and a lot of the time he doesn't even use it at all. He just enjoys hearing these things and knowing all sorts of weird drama is going on elsewhere. It's like when you find out about drama in a fandom you're not in and you read the posts and eat popcorn. It's great.
He likes his work uniform because it helps his posture.
As a fellow "leans forward too much" autistic, this one really resonates with me and I love it.
Tumblr media
[Image description: A screenshot of Emmet in Pokemon Masters EX. He's standing straight up and holding the brim of his hat with his hand. His dialogue reads, "Wearing it gets me motivated, of course! It also helps me stand up straight and tall!" End description.]
He stops scripting when he gets to know people better because he's able to trust them.
Notice how his dialogue in BW and BW2 is on the Battle Subway - "I'm Emmet. This is my job. I like doubles. This is why I like doubles. Here are the safety checks." He's scripting around people he's not familiar with, and it's the sort of thing that gets autistic people labeled as "robotic" by people who don't know it's a way to help us maintain some semblance of control over an unfamiliar situation. The preprepared dialogue is a coping method in an ableist world. But when you get to know him in Masters, the scripted dialogue shows up a lot less. He's able to talk genuinely and excitedly to you, because he knows you're safe to be around and you're not going to judge him for who he is. That hits me hard.
He has the most adorable goddamned laugh in the world and it kills me on the daily.
This is a lot more in line with my personal tastes, as everyone who knows me well knows, but that damn laugh makes me all fluttery inside and weak in the knees. And he does it a LOT.
This update to Masters EX, where the characters laugh if you tap on them on the upgrade screen, destroyed me, and multiple people were apparently waiting for me to find it and die because I'm really predictable. I may or may not regularly pull the screen up just to poke at him and hear this. It's...not fair.
This one is...also unfair. I won't elaborate in public on what I think when I hear it because it's embarrassing.
youtube
So, uh...yeah. I really, really like Emmet a lot. I'm really normal about Emmet. I promise.

What story of Fractured Wishes (Pokemon Villain Basil au) should I share first?
With a small explanation under the read more with details of what each option means.
The summary chosen will encapsulate both Act One and Act Two of the story, but will not share any story into Act Three.
Watching Basil:
More of a summary of what Basil ends up doing. With facts on things he can't remember or comprehend during Acts One & Two.
Basil POV:
A summary of what Basil remembers and perceives himself doing during Acts One & Two. Details may be left out or changed to what he understands to be truth. This may help understand his character more intimately than the previous option.
Sunny/Aubrey:
These two are somewhat the generic heroes from Pokemon games. Just two young teams happen to come across an evil organization, take it personally, and decide that it's their job to stop the impending doom instead of letting adults handle it. This will lack specific details of what Basil is doing behind the scenes but will have more Kel content.
Just the villain's plot:
Give character info instead of story:
You just want more information on the villains. This will include information on what the evil team is hunting and general facts on the hierarchy of the organization. This will also open up the option for people to submit characters into the au. You can CANNONICALLY be in this au. 💥💥💥
The Penn has only made one character page and really should make more. You want more designs!! Not story!!
Option for if you don't care about the au and just wish the Penn will choose
Technically the 'see results' but I really need opinions and I feel like adding a button for if people don't have opinions or don't want to offer their thoughts can actually be more damaging in a poll designed to see what my followers want. If nobody gives their opinion then I don't know what to do to actually please the greater audience.

ok i need to vent about a trope in video games (mostly rpgs and visual novels) that i really don’t like, and want to talk about why a lot of games fail at it and give a few examples of how it succeeds. however to do so im going to spoil a shitton of games. so if you plan on playing any of the social sim persona games, the xenoblade trilogy, sea of stars, 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors, pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky, chrono trigger, the great ace attorney, or danganronpa 2 and 3 (the anime not the game), do not read this post. i will be spoiling all of them.
so what’s up with characters dying But Not Actually so much?? it’s gotten to the point where whenever a main character dies, i’m almost certain that there’s going to be some funny business to justify bringing them back. it kind of drives me nuts, and i wanna talk about why this plot point fails in so many games (and also a few where it works in my opinion because it CAN work).
to start, the xenoblade games, specifically 1 and 3. i think fiora’s death in xenoblade 1 was my first exposure to this trope and honestly i think it’s done alright. there’s a LOT of foreshadowing about the nature of the face units in the early game, and having her be turned into one makes complete sense. also she’s not the only character who’s presumed dead that ends up in a face unit, so the concept feels more complete than just an excuse to bring back a main character. the main problem with fiora is more that her character pre-death is so much better than post-death, but that’s less to do with the resurrection and more just me disagreeing with the direction they take her character. overall this game gets a pass from me, not a bad use of the trope.
xenoblade 3 however i will not be so kind to. mio’s fakeout death fucking sucks and it ruined one of my favorite characters up to that point. they build up the fact that mio is dying all game, it’s a huge part of her character. the existentialism of it all was so compelling to me, i was excited to see where it was going to go. but the body swap with m during the prison sequence was so underwhelming it hurts. it is mildly foreshadowed in the fight against m, but it still felt like they sidestepped the conflict entirely because they didn’t have the guts to actually follow through on what they had set up. which, to be fair, this would be fine if they actually explored how she felt about living when she was supposed to die, but they don’t. this is pretty much the last major character moment for mio all game, and it was so disappointing to me. not a good use of the trope at all.
persona 3 (portable) and 4 use this trope too and it’s also pretty rough. shinjiro’s death is a big moment in persona 3, and saving him in portable feels super underdeveloped and feels like it was just used for fanservice at the end of the day. nanako’s death in persona 4 is almost insultingly underdeveloped too, it feels like it only happens because they needed to add extra tension during the climax of the game, when it would’ve worked perfectly fine if she was just severely injured in my opinion. having her die and come back just feels cheap and unearned.
persona 5 does it much better with akechi in my opinion but that’s also because him coming back is pretty much a mirage. the only reason he comes back in the third semester is because maruki thought him being back would be part of joker’s ideal reality, and once maruki is defeated akechi goes away too. it’s all pretty fantastic, and the way they explore akechi’s feelings about the whole situation is great too. of course, there is the moment at the ending where you seem him through the window but that’s left purposefully ambiguous and i choose to believe it’s just joker’s imagination lol.
chrono trigger is probably one of the oldest examples of this trope and it didn’t really bother me, but that’s mostly because i wasn’t super attached to crono in the first place cuz he doesn’t have much going for him in terms of characterization lol. i also think that because there are multiple endings including one where he doesn’t come back (and you really have to go out of your way to bring him back) makes it feel a bit less cheap? i don’t know, i don’t really have a strong opinion one way or the other for this case.
now sea of stars i’ve gone on record saying i adore, but i still don’t love how they handle garl’s resurrection. it feels almost identical to crono’s, and feels a bit too fanservicey for my liking especially since i thought garl’s death was so extremely well done. it’s cute, and i do love garl, but i prefer the regular ending where he doesn’t come back.
so… remember how all the characters in danganronpa 2 didn’t actually die? cuz they were in a simulation the whole time and it wasn’t a “you die in the game you die in real life” situation like they implied in the game? yeah that was weird. i don’t remember this bugging me a ton back in my danganronpa phase but like… the deaths in that game in particular were really well done for the series (let’s forget about chapter 3 for now) and having none of them matter in the end kind of sucks. it also doesn’t feel like that was the original vision since this reveal only happens in the danganronpa 3 anime and not in dr2, so it feels like it was probably done for fanservice more than anything.
these next two are ones i don’t think were too bad and that’s because they both happen and you kinda just know they’re not gone for good. kazuma from great ace attorney and snake from zero escape (999) both die so early and so suddenly after being set up to be seemingly important that you sort of just know they’re not gone for good, and if they were you’d probably be disappointed. also they both slap when they come back and their characters would probably feel incomplete without their reveal that they didn’t actually die. if you’re going to kill characters and bring them back, this is one of the better ways to do it in my opinion.
finally, this isn’t really a death but it still really bothered me. i really don’t like the ending of pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky’s final special episode. for years i thought that once grovyle and dusknoir returned to the future and you and your partner save the world, they’re gone. that’s how the game sets it up. i’ve thought that’s how it was for years since i didn’t play sky until last year. learning that no, they save the world and all the pokemon from the future are fine actually was so… it just felt wrong. i feel like they didn’t want a sequence that grim to end the episode in a game made for children, but i was like 9 when i beat explorers of time/darkness the first time and i understood the implications of what happened. learning that wasn’t actually the case now that i’m an adult bothered me and i wish they had stuck to their guns.
so what’s the common thread here? well, the times where it doesn’t work are usually because it feels like fanservice or like the story didn’t justify it well enough. it feels like you’re being coddled almost, like don’t worry your blorbo is fine!! they’re still alive!!! and i hate that so much. stick to your guns!!! if you don’t have a damn good reason to bring back characters after they supposedly die, don’t bring them back. it usually feels wrong and hollow. look, in real life, people die (i know big shocker), and there’s nothing you can do about it. i’ve had people very close to me die, and while i would do anything to bring them back, that’s just not how it works. i know games are supposed to be escapism where you suspend your disbelief, but i don’t usually feel happy when characters i love die and come back. it just feels like mildly condescending wish fulfillment. i just wish authors would be more thoughtful about this kind of thing.

do you mind when people yell about the seeding? i’ve done it in the tags before but it was completely meant in good fun, and if it actually upsets you i wouldn’t want to do that at all
I will admit it does bother me a little (specifically when seeding or the concept of it is mentioned, but not people just yelling about specific matchups), just because it's hard not to read it as criticism of something that I've put a lot of work into, even if that's not necessarily the case!
At the same time, I've also got a big enough picture of the tournament to know that sometimes rough matchups are inevitable, even in the first round, and that I cannot in fact see the future (I'm actually quite bad at it), so that's mostly enough to resolve my doubts. Plus! Once a poll is out there, it's out there. On our strict schedule, it's a little hard for me to yoink it back and go hey wait give me another shot! I gotta make my peace with that ahaha
Additionally: (Read more added because I'm the rambly sort)
1) I don't consider tags to be largely directed at me. Tags showing up in the activity page is technically a new phenomenon in the large scheme of things, and Tumblr developed a culture for tagging specifically to be unobtrusive so I want to respect and internalize that.
2) If it bothers someone enough, they can make it known in a way that actually asks for a response, like via an ask. (The more detailed, the better lol. If criticism is constructive, then positive change can be achieved. If it isn't, then all that's really happening is people getting hurt.) Or they can technically make their own tournament. I don't think I'm the only one running a Best Pokemon Tournament and I wouldn't take it personally or as an attack. One of the great joys of being alive is seeing how other people choose to tackle the same problem in different ways! You can learn a lot that way.
3) I largely don't consider the effects of my combined social anxiety and perfectionism to be anyone's problem other than my own. I very much appreciate kindness and patience, but I can't expect it, and thus: people should behave as they will. I knew what I was getting into when I decided to run this!

something something my haikaveh pokemon au
the NOTES. for people who don’t have much knowledge of pokemon.
if you have NOT been linked here from the fic, the fic is here.
KAVEH’S TEAM
Pidgeot, Reuniclus, Mehrak (Porygon2)
Tumblr media
ALHAITHAM’S TEAM
Braviary (Hisuian), Metagross, Pichu
Tumblr media
they each have a big bird, a stage 2 psychic type and a baby (mehrak is a baby) bc they’re cringe and matchy matchy mirrors of each other. etc.
i forgor the brush i was using so that’s why they look different oops sawry
FAQ (but not really)
Q: why does alhaitham have a metagross?
A: ‘i’m just a feeble scholar’ headass. i wrote that not many ppl know he has one but after the coup this changes and everyone finds out. they both hate it
Q: mehrak porygon and not rotom?
A: yes. bc someone has to be! ancient artificial pkmn thats been a little bugged out from age etc. i think its funnier like this too (running joke)
+relationship chart if anyone's curious. ignore that its in the notes app i wrote it while i was on vacation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
protip: birds were picked on vibes (pokedex entries), psychic types on vibes but also how they can help with their day jobs (actually only kaveh) and their babies on both vibes and helpfulness (you can probably guess who). check the dex entries for more information. what can i say.
reshiram is the dragon of truth + zekrom is the dragon of ideals - why theyre paired with haitham and kaveh respectively should be self explanatory. i think.
not mentioned, but the other competitors teams.
in this au, the structure of the competition rounds is the same as canon, but they can also pick one pokemon partner to help them each round. battling is prohibited except for in the final round, where some is allowed for purposes of gaining the diadem. kaveh picked mehrak in all three rounds.
- faruzan and golurk
- layla and abra
- tighnari and breloom
& of course, wanderer and silvally, cyno and lucario, and nahida and shaymin! nahida also takes care of a 1% zygarde (a little squishy guy)
ENDING SCENE COMMENTARY
in my idea of hvkh. hthm is kind of a ‘and then i’ll keep these feelings inside until i die’ kind of guy but also not really. he knows he’s in love but he doesn’t want to say it out loud bc he also knows that saying it when kaveh isn’t ready for it could end badly.
so what he does is show it in other ways. he bickers like usual. he goes to pick him up from the tavern and pay his bill and take him home, take off his makeup and his accessories etc. making little accomodations for him that he wouldn’t for anyone else. that’s the kind of love that he shows.
kvh on the other hand is the …. hmmge…. dunno how to word it properly but the ‘if i let myself be loved then i let myself be known.’ kind of guy. or something. it’s not that he doesn’t return hthm’s feelings! or even not know what it means! but he doesn’t want to accept them for what they actually are bc… if he does, then it also means confronting the fact that someone actually Cares about him [jawdrop.jpg]. and that person is like. the most annoying person you have ever known but also like the only person who perfectly matches you beat for beat and makes you Feel. feelings. horrendous.
so bc of that i did Not actually choose to put in words the big L word . Yes they do Confess, but in the theme of things, it’s more Actions speak louder than Words. it is also more wow. both me and alhaitham would probably break out in hives if he straight up said it like that. i would much rather let the two of them be the ‘act’ and the ‘react’.
i also think that kaveh is someone who loves romantic gestures and even though what happened was romantic (kind of) lots of things happened that made it also. really weird. so while its p much acceptance of feelings he also wants to have a chance to properly convey things and have a heartfelt romantic dramatic speech etc. after he's prepared. that's the proper answer part.
it’s a tale of two idiots who both have acts of service as their giving love language but the extent to which their receiving (acts of service) differs. bc kaveh probably has receiving (words of affirmation) and haithams is. idk. receiving (knowing that the person he loves knows he is loved and that he is taking care of himself and knows his own worth). bc as cute as physical affection hc is it do think that it’s not really something he absolutely needs or wants. whoa i am rambling ok ill stop myself there for now. whew.

Look. I know Pokemon is probably beyond third versions at this point. Gen 6 didn't get one, and Gen 8 set up the precedent for expansions over third editions. The state of S/V on release is evidence enough that their current production pipeline barely gives enough time to release the base mainline games as-is. That combined with the higher cost to the customer per version now, it just makes more sense to expand rather than re-release.
THAT SAID! I think there are enough little things that could improve the experience drastically that I'm not sure they can simply patch in or provide via DLC (at least not in the original map), or would be useless to players who don't want to completely reset their game. So, here are the features I think we're missing:
Alternate Ride Pokemon. This game introduced cyclizar and Revavroom, which were explicitly designed to look like transport methods, and Cyclizar are in fact a common Ride Pokemon. They also brought back several ride pokemon from previous generations, including Gogoat and Braviary, and once the games are connected to Home we'll be allowed to transfer in Sneasler, Wyrdeer, and Basculegion. Don't get me wrong, Koraidon is great. I love Koraidon. I'm very upset that I can't transfer the one I've grown attached to through the story out of the game when the time comes. Which, yes, I know, that's why there's Second Koraidon. But again, we're talking Third Version here. Letting players swap in a ride pokemon of their choice would be a good excuse to not give Koraidon/Miraidon right away, since the player would likely end up with both in the end. (yes I know it'd require a rewrite of Arven's plot, I'm not being paid to share my opinions, someone else can fix that)
Make wild Tera Pokemon (the ones found outside raids) about ten times as aggressive. I don't think we need player HP and whatnot brought over from Legends: Arceus but Alphas are the only fun part of that game and if they could make the wild Tera Pokemon induce the same sense of "ha, I'm in danger." when you see them? it'd be perfect. While I'm here I'd love to just say, "bring back Alphas as a permanent feature" but barring that I'll just take hyper-aggressive menaces to society of some form in every game going forward, and the wild Teras are the perfect candidate this game.
Make the badge challenges, but at the very least the Victory Road gym challenges, scale based on the number of badges you have. It was kind of a letdown to start exploring West, completing the bug and water gyms, only to have an area with lv 50 Pokemon preventing me from reaching Larry and lv 35's preventing you from reaching Tulip, only to go out east and discover that I outleveled Brassius and Iono already, and oh, also, when I went back and beat Tulip and her level 40 team, I was ready to take on the lv 50 path only to discover it lead to Larry's lv 35 gym that I was supposed to access from the other way. Route challenge levels don't bother me, but I mean, it'd be nice if the badges really could be done in any order, and barring that, don't give us the illusion of options. They presented it like you could take on gyms in the order you wanted, but really you're supposed to go East first, clear up to Mela, then head back, take on the bug and water gyms plus Bombirdier and the Asado Titan, then go BACK THE OTHER WAY to fight Iono, Orthworm, and Larry, then go southwest for Tulip, and THEN finally head north, fight the last 2 titans, take on the ice/ghost gyms, then the fairy Star base, then do Eri last. They don't tell you this, they just make it sound like you get to choose and then throw reality at you. Be a lot cooler if they just went all in on that premise and scaled the badge challenges based on how many you have.
This is a broken record beaten to death but god damn only having 4 main outfit options with no ability to even recolor them and only being able to customize hair/accessories really sucks, and is a terrible introduction to their "gender-neutral" character creation system. If Kalos really does border the northeast of the map and we get to go there in an expansion we better have access to alternative main outfit options in Luminose, but if we're all wrong about that then man it'd sure be cool if we could just have some other outfits available throughout the world under normal circumstances. Hell let us get Atticus to customize our uniforms. I'll pay him in Tera Crystals or LP, his own made up currency, he can even have his badge back, whatever it takes. just get me out of these orange pants. Hate coordinating my outfit around a single terrible piece. Only one character looks good in the Scarlet school uniform and it's Nemona.

Anxiety is rampage tonight, so it is time to hyperfocus on pokemon
Specifically I'm going to be thinking about the next 3 years of the franchise. It's long, so you're welcome for the read more
I know pretty much 90% of the fans want them to slow down (with 9% wanting them to stop all together and 1% wanting more games of lower quality, which yes is a take I've seen (source for these numbers: me I made to those numbers but it feels accurate yknow?)).
That being said, we know Game Freak are stubborn. In fact, TPC has said, on record, they want to maintain their cadence of releases while "ensuring quality."
So if nothing is changing in terms of pace of release, then oh well, all we can do is wait for more releases and judge from there.
But with that knowledge out of the way, let's get talking.
I'm gonna make a radical prediction. Gen 9 is going to last 4 years rather than the usual 3. SV released in 22, and guess when the 30th anniversary is?
2026.
Now here's the thing. They COULD drop gen 10 in 2025 on regular schedule and drop dlc in 2026. But let me ask this: would that be AS profitable? My take is that Pokémon has succeeded because of genius marketing strategies and timed releases, so the 30th anniversary, being a huge year for them, would probably boast much better profits by dropping a new generation, which would also give them an extra year to develop the game.
Let's also keep this in mind: the Switch 2 is almost upon us. It's not in the wild yet, but devs have been talking about getting dev kits for a while, they've been talking about ps4 level specs or close to it, and how they want it to be an easy transfer from Switch 1 owners to Switch 2- name not final obviously.
If that's not enough, there was a very accurate leak regarding Indigo Disk a few months back on 4chan that stated they were working with a new system for performance tweaks.
So basically what I'm getting at is that by 2026 we will have the Switch 2 or Switch U or whatever, and gen 10 will launch on that- but it won't be a launch title. Pokémon mainline games don't really do that for some reason.
Let's back up a bit before I go further. Assuming gen 10 releases on the 30th anniversary in 2026, that leaves a blank period in 2024 and 2025. Make sense?
This has been very long winded, but this is what I think will happen.
2024
Pokemon reveals intent to revisit Unova in 2 separate instances of games.
Nintendo reveals the Switch 2 to the public and announces a launch for late 2024 or early 2025.
The Unova revisitation titles are the last mainline pokemon games for Switch.
2025
Johto revisits are announced as the first mainline titles on the Switch 2. Most likely Crystal reremakes, but I'm not sure if it'll be precisely Let's Go style.
In addition, pokemon Switch 1 titles will have some better performance, particularly gen 9 games.
They might do a Legends title, but not just for Johto.
2026
Lots of Pokémon celebration, music videos, ports, and eventually gen 10 as the finish line of a huge celebration.
Now you may be asking "why 2 remakes in a row? Didn't they just remake gen 4?"
Hence why I said "revisits" instead. Because of Legends Arceus, we truly don't know what kind of curve ball could come next for us. Could be straight up remakes, could be new games entirely. We can't even say that they'll just 1 game a year because Legends Arceus and SV both dropped in 2022.
Something else that complicates things is this: Unova didn't have a Platinum or Emerald that they can just ignore the enhancements of. Well. They CAN, but I'm pretty sure we all agree that if they just remake BW1 and completely ignore BW2- aka a game most hardcore and long time fans hold as the GOAT of all Pokémon games in the same area as HGSS- fans will be absolutely livid.
That is... if they choose to REMAKE BW1 at all.
The Revisit clause opens the door for alternative takes. Perhaps a BW3, a BW0 or prequel to BW1, or perhaps something completely different all together like Legends Unova by itself. Or Paradox versions.
My personal predictions
BW1 remake, Legends following
BW1 and 2 combo remake, Legends following
A completely new game set in Unova that acts as a soft sequel to SV and its DLC, possibly merged with the concept of a Legends game OR a Legends game following said soft sequel set in either the past or future.
How do we know Unova is coming anyway? I mean it's kind of obvious if you've been paying attention to the DLC recently, but it's pretty much the most obvious hints since the KANTO KANTO KANTO re remake flags they kept waving in gen 7.
Blueberry Academy is in Unova
They keep highlighting and singling out specific Unovan pokemon such as the Unovan dragons or the starters, particularly Tepig and Snivy after giving Oshawott love in Legends Arceus.
There's an area that strongly resembles Chargestone Cave, apparently.
There's characters that may or may not be related to Unovan characters, like Drayton and Drayden
Ingo is in Legends Arceus
Now you may think all of this is easily explained because of the first point. Let me counter with this:
Why put BBA in Unova specifically?
Now are the gears turning? Sure there's a chance it was just a name thrown out- but if it were a nothing name, why not something different? They could've put Blueberry Academy near Kitakami, they could have put it in the real life chain of islands called the Canary Islands off the coast of Spain, they could have just left it unnamed in the middle of the ocean, heck they could have made it the Indigo Academy from the anime or place it in Kanto in general and nobody would have batted an eye. Or Sinnoh for that matter since we know that's a done revisit.
So the fact they choose Unova has to be of some significance.
Here's something else: the concept of the paradoxes blends seamlessly with Unova's tradition vs futurism that's present in certain areas such as the desert area, Opelucid, and Black City or White Forest.
Plus... cmon guys, Game Freak LOVES money. That's EASY money. Idk if I want it because I'm still in shock of how bad BDSP were and just how abysmal SV perform, but they generally follow the money, whether the game is finished or not. They have multiple teams, they are willing to use outside studios, they can and will do anything for the dollar.
My next point actually leads quite well with the next remake topic
The specific choice of paradoxes for Violet are the Unovan Musketeers
Now this is the clincher: why choose these specific pokemon for future paradoxes? Perhaps a hint to the future? For that matter, there's also plenty of Paradox Pokémon from gen 5 (Brute Bonnet, Slither Wing, Iron Moth, and Iron Jugulus) and plenty of gen 5 variants and cross evolutions.
Perhaps the musketeers pair nicely with the Johto Beast paradoxes given their similar purposes and design styles.
... so why the Johto Beasts for Scarlet?
Now comes my argument for JOHTO revisits, and granted the points aren't as strong as it is with Unova, but I still think there's a compelling case.
The idea was already brought up in the ending for Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee.
I'll pause: "but Game Freak said they weren't making another Let's Go game-"
Lying is a thing. My name is Pinkrillabussy von Skalkatrass, I'm a Capricorn born in July of 1757, and I have 10 wives from Canada and Antarctica. See? Easy
They changed their minds because money
They maybe had no plans at the time
NDAs are a thing
It might not be specifically a Let's Go game
Now, back on track
The Switch 2 will launch in the next year or two, and let's be honest, GSC re remakes would sell the console like hot cakes just like Yellow remakes did for Switch. Pokémon is a system seller after all. Let's not kid ourselves, it will/would outsell Unova.
In SV, there are various gold and silver colored items. By itself that's not a huge hint, but 2 prominent items are sets of mirrored sunglasses- no other mirrored glasses are in the game, and they both show some odd reflection of other locations.
In Teal Mask, Kitakami is in Japan, same as Johto, and has a decent chunk of Johto representation.
Also from Teal Mask, we got some photo music, including 2 very specific remixes from the GSC games, including very muffled versions of the Johto wild Pokémon battle musuc, and the Pokémon March song from the Pokegear. Muffled as in maybe pretty far off, but soon ish. Probably the strongest point.
Billy and O'Nare, the rich assholes we chase around Kitakami and Paldea. They dress in golden colors, have some silver under tones to their hair, and give out a ton of nuggets- gold- and pearls- kinda silver in the menu.
In the same way that paradoxes line up well with BW, the use of the time machine itself is also relevant to Johto, given that the original GSC games had backwards trading compatibility with RBY via a time machine trading system- the exceptions being that you couldn't send a gen 2 Pokémon or a gen 1 Pokémon with a gen 2 move back to the gen 1 games.
While not exactly damming evidence, the variants, Convergent species, and cross gen evolutions- Wooper, Tauros, Wiglett and Wugtrio/Diglett and Dugtrio, Toedscool and Toedscruel/Tentacool and Tentacruel, Annihilape, Farigiraf, Dundunsparce, Clodsire- with exception to Kinggambit and the other cross gen evolutions and covergents introduced in the dlc, these are a lot of Kanto and Johto pokemon or derivatives that can easily be brought to gen 2 re remakes in the same vein as the Alolan forms and Megas in LGPE. For that matter, there's also Certain Hisuian Pokémon, and certain Paradox Pokémon that line up with this as well.
Lastly, johto now is the main region we have spent the longest time since last revisiting. Go figure, Unova is second.
So what could a revisit to Johto look like? Unlike Unova, Johto isn't as complex to approach. In fact, there's several directions they can go, but most likely they'll try to stay true ish to the originals.
Let's Go Johto
Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee had a few signs pointing towards its creation from gen 7, but one of the funnier ones was the phrase Let's Go written directly on the box of Ultra Sun and Moon.
In SV, we have the Let's Go mechanic.
I personally don't want a Let's Go game because I hate motion controls and the Go aspect of it all, but I won't deny the possibility.
An ILCA style remake of HGSS
Hang on, a remake of a remake?
Well, BDSP were straight up just Diamond and Pearl with a few extra bells and whistles, almost frustratingly so. In fact, they even have the same glitches as the originals, and the coding is basically just ported directly to the Unity engine.
HGSS were DS games as well, and most hard-core fans will say they're the absolute best of the franchise- I'm not included, but I do respect just how much shit is cram packed into these games by Morimoto. I'm pretty sure most people would be just fine with straight up ports with modern amenities to reduce the grind.
Different Gold and Silver remakes
This is the deal- HGSS were already Crystal remakes split into 2 versions. They could just remake GS and remove the crystal isms, but that seems unlikely to me
A new take on gen 2
A Legends Kanto and Johto game since they're connected, a revised version of the original ideas for Gold seen in the Space World demo, etc. By now, GF have to be aware that WE are aware of that demo and several of the beta pokemon and chamges. Some fun could be had.
Personally, my bet is a safe Crystal remake split into 2 again. Nothing too fancy, just gen 2 in 3D. Don't wanna scare genwunners or og fans.
Anyway, that was a lot for what could ultimately be nothing at all. In fact, they could follow SV with Johto first and then Unova, or do neither in favor of something new. I'm not gonna deny the possibility of one happening and the other not, and hell, they could drop gen 10 in 2025 on schedule. Could also do a Legends Unova game or similar by itself, then Johto by itself, then gen 10. Could even be a second set of dlc. Who knows, man.
Anyway thanks for reading if you've come this far. Anxiety is a bitch and rambling about this series helps me relax.

Yoooo Marilou has a sword? :O
Also I saw something about waterproof hair and fabrics in that gijinka universe, which is really interesting! Are there any other little details like that, about the funky traits pokemon can have and how they affect the world?
(my inital response got too long and crashed my computer lol TAKE TWO)
SHE DOES! She's an oshawott so her sword is her scallchop :3 it looks and behaves mostly just like a normal non gijinka one does. is attached to her belly button and considered a part of her body. the suction to her belly button is strong enough that it can be attached through a thin layer of fabric: but ussually marilou will still have her clothes either modified to have a hole or have a special belt to attach it too. Her scallchop extends to a full length sword when she chooses! no one else including another oshawott can make it extend to sword mode.
Tumblr media
the sword itself is based off of pirate swords and samurotts' sword thingie
THERES SO MUCH FUN FUNKY STUFF so much i'm working on some drawings of eevees evolved into every eeveelution as an excuse to infodump lol
heres some fun psmd gijinka au world building/lore facts!
-if marilou were to put on a normal collared shirt, the collar would transform into an upturned frilly one: bassically a pokemon 'pokemonness' (being very connected to not just nature but like the nature of the world) connects with the physical natural material in the clothes and can modify it slightly. never by a whole lot. but enough that theres a canon explanation
Tumblr media
so yeah the universe has a species dress code basically
-species names function a bit like last names. most (but not everyone!) does have a 'real' name, and in smaller communities generally everyone will know and address others as such (with the exception of like, an elder figure, like a kid won't call the kind charizard across the street by her name she's 'ms charizard' ), but generally speaking it's rude to ask for someones name, or adress someone by such if they havn't told you you can. whats wacky is sometimes if someones adopted by another species they'll adopt an aspect of one of their adoptive parental figures names as a middle name. Marilou and Comet both do this! Marilou's full name is 'Marilouise Brazil Oshawott' Brazil as in the tree nut (Nuzleaf's name) and is 'Comet Costa' Bulbasaur' Costa like Carracosta
- humans (while considered exitnct technically can still exist in the psmd-gijinka verse) can't have 'unnatural' hair colors! within anime reason of course like a black haired humans hair can be actually a shade of blue but like, a human can't naturally have a bright colorful hair color: they can have any color eyes though!
-pokemon still come from eggs in the psmdgijinka-verse. And they still can only reproduce with pokemon from the same egg group and the species of the kid will ussually be that of the 'mother' theres a chance it can be the other parent's. though maybe some species may give live birth like how there are some reptiles etc in our world that do that, but i'm not sure yet. yeah I'm that one nerd that will go on about how theoretically how pikachu can be both a mammal and lay eggs
-most fairy types have particularly like idk the word cause usually 'fair' means pale but what I really mean is that when drawing a fairy type I'll make sure they're skin tone is more saturated than I'd usually choose has more noticeable blush and is closer to the red/pink then orange/yellow hue
-so the shades of color a pokemon can be varies a lot! however the shiny color of a pokemon does effect this. like take vaporeon for example, It's more common for a vaporeon's shades of blue to be teal then indigo sense indigo is closer to purple (vaporeons shiny color)
-while more rare type exclusionist/discrimination/not comparable to any real life bigotry so idk what to call it does exist: like they make grass type dominated towns where fire types aren't allowed and dark and ghost types are often stereotyped as mischievous and up to no good. like yeah sometimes they are but not to the extent that people act

Dude you have pokemon OCs? THAT'S SO COOL! Can I hear about them?
YES YES YES okok so they dont have official designs yet because i actually kinda . struggle with character deisgn but i LOVE WRITING FOR THEM
small warning for like ?? child endangerment ??? its pokemon and theres mew science involved par for the course www also theres a dead mom mention skdbwksbsj
...
okay this is post-writing robin this is SUCH A LONG POST AKDHSIDBD IM SORRY I LOVE THEM SO BAD i wrote such extensive lore
so barkley ( 27 ) is a scientist on the mew project and had some hand in the mewtwo experiments ( his partners ars a ditto and a zorua ) , and hes already a bit of a mess . he loved science as a young boy and met his sweetheart in college , and they bonded over their adoration for science and nature . they were even engaged !! but once his partner found out he was going to be apart of the mew experiments , the engagement was broken off and barkley had to move all the way across the world basically to work on the project since hes from kalos . his family , being his older brother ( 35 ) , his baby sister ( 6 ) , and his sickly mom , also didnt agree with the mew experiments , so when he moved out of the family home , they told him not to return unless he had burned his labcoat and never spoke about science again . barkley finds out via email while still traveling that his mother succumbdd to her illness , and it just solidifies to him that he really cant go back even if he wanted to
barkley is already really disillusioned and cynical , so when the other scientists tell him they want to mix human dna with mews dna to create a pokemon / human hybrid , he agrees only because he has nothing left to lose . he doesnt agree with the experiments on a moral level , but his bridges are burned , so what the hell
blah blah science things happen and tadaaa !! a cute baby girl is born !! purple pink hair and bright blue eyes , like mew as a human , except yknow . kinda but not really . but hey !! success !! the scientists have fuck all idea of what to do now
so the baby is raised until preschool age ( around 3 to 4 ) in the laboratory facility , but the mewtwo experiments have started by now . things are getting dangerous . the team decides that the mew child needs to live elsewhere , but nearby , and everyone chooses barkley for the job since a few of them knew he had some childcare experience prior to taking care of the lababy
so he takes the baby girl home and is told not to come to the lab unless its for the girls checkups . shes also not to go in public , as a human with pokemon dna wasnt actually accepted by anyone ( shocker !! ) , so she grew up only seeing barkley and other scientists
as the girl grows , they discover shes severely anemic , and her legs are weak . a side effect of the mew dna , they suggest , so they give her some leg braces until shes old enough for things like canes and walkers . by 10 , the girl prefers a wheelchair , as her legs are just . shot like they hurt too much for her to walk on for long , they completely lose feeling inconsistently , and her knees buckle a lot . mew side effects the scientists say
but other than the mobility issues and supplements for the anemia , the girl is a very happy little thing , always smiling and reading and happily playing with her toy teddiursa . though theres another issue — as another side effect of the mew dna , and the fact that shes so isolated , the girl gets overwhelmed very easily . she has some psychic abilities , such as telekinesis , that she cant control very well . thus , when she begins to get overwhelmed or stressed , anything small within a 3ft radius will start to levitate and shake . the worse her emotional state is , the wider her ramge expands , and the more violent things get . her largest episode happened on the day of mewtwos escape , due to a faint psychic link she shares with it , and the effects of her meltdown were seen in shattered windows and overturned cars within a 25ft radius of barkleys apartment
after that phenomenon , the research lab in its entirety was exposed , and axed of course , we all know that story . the girl , being 12 by this time , was allowed to live freely with barkley by decision of all champions and government officials . she was an innocent party , and barkley had spent so much time and dedication raising her that they declared him innocent , as well
so they move to unova , where they live for a while , and the girl finally gets her name here . you see , even the government didnt name the child , and barkley was only allowed to call her by her lab-given title of mew-c 04 , or just 04 ( said like zero four ) . so while in unova , they visit the renowned ferris wheel , and there they meet n . due to her mew dna , the girl can also speak with pokemon to an extent , although she still struggles with it at times
with barkley still watching over her , the two end up visiting that area often so n and his pokemon can help the girl hone her psychic abilities . she even learns how to use her telekinesis to help hold herself up until she can get to her mobility aids and / or move them closer to herself , and she ends up being able to move things up to 100lbs ( around 45kg ) with her abilities . she even learns a bit of telepathy , so she can communicate to barkley even when apart in case of emergencies . n because an older brother of sorts to the girl , and he asks barkley to give her a real name
thus , the girl was further known as fherris !!
n refers to fherris as barkleys daughter , although barkley himself disagrees , as he still just views himself as nothing more than a nanny , and fherris calls him " mr . bar " . but dont worry , that changes with time ! they never really got to bond before the mew labs were closed , so over the course of their story , thats when we really get to see them bond ^^
theres so much more to their story , like how in my storyline there is no ash , so its actually fherris and barkley who get mixed up with yveltals reawakening when they eventually move back to kalos , but thats the big stuff out of the way !!

Your ideal Pokemon team for the Devil if you wanted to do a Cuphead crossover with Pokemon?
I’ve thought about this for a while (even had an RP similar to this), and while I never gave the Devil a full team, I decided to give this a try. So here’s the Devil’s full team (along with a few alternates)!
(Note: I’m going to give the Devil a Legendary Pokemon for his team. While I don’t usually do this sort of thing, the Devil is a very powerful immortal being, possibly a god. Therefore, to me, giving him a Legendary makes sense)
Houndoom: A bit cliche, but dang if it doesn’t fit. The Hellhound theme and intimidating aura feels like something the Devil would go for. He probably uses it to keep the imps in line. I actually like to think that, if Pokémon were to live on Inkwell Isles, Houndoom would have some mythology relating to Inkwell Hell.
Impidimp: He already rules over a bunch of imps, why not have one as a Pokémon (plus it’s canonically a mischievous Pokémon)! I like to think that the Impidimp followed a bunch of imps that went up to the surface for something, and the Devil just Did Not Notice an extra until someone brought it to his attention. He’s definitely trying to evolve it into a Grimmsnarl.
Spiritomb:…I mean, it’s basically a collection of evil/mischievous spirits. That would be straight up the Devil’s alley. He probably thought it was a cool rock and brought it to Inkwell Hell, not realizing it was a Pokémon. When Spiritomb did come out, the Devil probably thought it was awesome (meanwhile, all of the imps are super confused on why a ghost just came out of that rock)
Dusknoir: Since it canonically ferries souls into the afterlife, I feel like the Devil would catch one to help with soul acquisition. Imagine the shock of thinking your soul is safe with a Dusknoir, only to end up in the Devil’s clutches!
Giratina:…Look, I know some people aren’t fond of the “Giratina is Pokémon Satan” theory, but let’s go with it for this explanation. Since the Cuphead equivalent of God probably has Arceus, I feel like the Devil would catch Giratina as a sort-of “screw you” to the father who banished him. Giratina is done with the Devil 95% of the time while the Devil is convinced that Giratina respects him completely…despite the fact that it’s knocked him into lava, like, twice.
Zorua: This may seem like an odd choice, but hear me out. Their color schemes are similar (red and black), they’re both mischievous to some degree, and Zorua’s illusion abilities are comparable to the Devil’s shapeshifting. Plus, Zorua even looks a bit like a cat (yes I know it’s a fox, but Pokémon doesn’t really have a black cat yet), an animal the Devil has been associated with in both fanon and the show itself! The Devil’s definitely trying to evolve it into a Zoroark, but for now he’s just enjoying the cuteness (in private, of course).
Other Potential Teammates:
-Hoopa: Similar color schemes, similar vibes of “Silly guys who are super powerful with this One Item”
-Arbok/Seviper: Ngl, I couldn’t choose which one I should give him.
-Chandelure: Takes souls like Dusknoir, and also has a fancy, decadent aesthetic I think the Devil could appreciate. Fun fact: I was actually going to put this guy down in the Devil’s main team before deciding on Dusknoir instead!
-Alolan Meowth: The only other thing close to a black cat in Pokémon.
-Gengar: Mischief-making ghost+mischief-making Devil=chaos on Inkwell Isles
This was pretty fun, actually! If anyone wants to give me another character for this, I’d be open to this within other fandoms! I’ll list them all in the tags.

I seem to be giving my fair share of angst here. Blame it on the nuzlockes and the Submas fandom love of choosing the worst possible outcomes for the duo to draw in beautiful images(your art is amazing, btw. You pull off both the silly and the sad really well), but at least that’s beats constantly running into a certain ship that shall not be named(starts with B. If you know, you know). However, I should compensate with a silly tidbit instead! The two can’t always suffer. Besides, this kinda goes with the conversation of sync pairs interacting with each other
So one of the special sync pairs you can buy with a ticket is Evelyn and her Entei(besides Submas, only like five facility workers don’t use legendaries so), and she’s underrated. Their battle facility is imply to be more struggling than other ones in the series, with things like the deaths of their parents, and it seems to have caused tension among them(look at Morgan’s quotes to Nita when you beat them for example: "... ... ... NITA! Oh, I'll do you, you little waster! First, you mouth off to our guests, with your boasting and insulting them so... And then you lose in battle despite it?! Do you even take this work seriously?! Could you ever face our dear ma and da, rest 'em, after such shocking behavior?! My dear guest... I am deeply sorry for this experience. I beg you will somehow overlook it and come visit our Battle Maison again. Now I must have a...discussion with my wee sister. You'll excuse us..." Evelyn also mentions that Dana can have a temper and while Morgan is usually nice, she’s scary when mad. Despite that, all four do care for each other). Evelyn specifically works the Double Battles, and is the second youngest sibling, with terrible anxiety where she constantly stutters and apologizes even when she did nothing wrong. She also dresses fancy so people tend to draw her with Butler Emmet. BUT SPEAKING OF EMMET, the silly fact! One of Evelyn’s poke center conversations mentions him: “I hear that there are Trainers here on Pasio who like Double Battles...and have distinct ways of speaking...Oh no...How in the world will I set myself apart here? Or rather...maybe I should apologize for being like them!…Um...when I go to apologize, I think I should bring a little something as a gift. Do you think I should take some Lava Cookies? Or a Lumiose Galette?" So basically at some point, Evelyn was afraid Emmet would get mad for thinking she was copying him and thus got a free goody bag from her for a reason he probably doesn’t know! If only we saw his reaction cause that’s funny
That's kinda the reason why people started shipping Evelyn x Emmet if I'm not mistaken. I mean, it has the potential of being super fluffy and cute what with Emmet being genuinely nice and helping Evelyn win some confidence back.
But then again I prefer platonic relationships over romantic ones, so why not? It also has the potential there of colleagues and double battlers becoming friends and helping each other out as the usual pokemon rivals.
Something bothers me about how much Evelyn is always apologizing, though. I know the sisters care for each other, but if Evelyn is treated that way too by her sisters, then it's toxic af and that behavior could come from there. Hm, dunno, but it bothers me so much akhfdxhdkbhn

I caught up on the Ash vs. Cynthia fight and folks, I am choosing violence.
My stance on the anime has overall been really negative this tournament run.  Barring Diantha vs. Lance, nothing has been particularly exciting to me.  I can live with the Alain vs. Leon outcome, and the Ash vs. Steven outcome, I just feel like they could’ve done a bit more to make the match feel like it mattered.  I’m still not over Diantha vs. Leon, and doubtless, never will be.  But barring how hard they disrespected Diantha...this is the most bothered I’ve been.  This is worse than how sidelined Iris was.
It’s not because Cynthia lost.  I feel like I need to preface that.  Cynthia was always going to lose, no one should be surprised.  It’s not even strictly how she lost.  Ash still fights like a cheating anime protagonist (what the fuck is “Use Breaking Swipe on the shield to remove Stealth Rock supposed to be?), but most situations could’ve been handled equivalently without it, they just did it for dramatic effect (just have Pikachu tech in Electric Terrain this fight for Hypnosis immunity and it checks out, Breaking Swipe on Garchomp would’ve dealt damage that cancels out what Lucario would’ve taken from Rocks and the same outcome occurs anyway, etc).  It’s a mild inconvenience at worst.  In fact, I’m willing to say that on the whole the fight itself is really solid.  Part 1 is fantastic for ramping up the tension by taking Pikachu out early, the reveal of Dynamax Togekiss was amazing and that little blob actually did fantastic.  Even smaller bits like surprise, Roserade has Natural Cure, Gengar effectively accomplished nothing, is great.  It’s a little dumb that Cynthia apparently didn’t bring a Ground-type attack on Garchomp, but small potatoes in the grand scheme of an otherwise good fight.
No, what bothers me is what they did with Cynthia herself.
“By the way, win or lose, I’m retiring after this.”  That had people pretty mad, but personally, I was all for it.  Cynthia’s always had her fixation on her research and travels, and I had assumed this was leading into Black and White timeline stuff, where she’s going off to visit Caitlin’s villas around the world in her research, and is participating here just to show off that she’s the best, and retire on top.  Which is cool and interesting and works for her character.  But that’s not what happens.  No, instead, we get some nonsense in part three as she gets really into the tension of the fight with Ash, and decides that no, actually she’s not retiring, how could she ever give up something as fun as battling?
Fuck.  You.
That is stupid.  That is bottom of the barrel bullshit stupid.  You’re telling me the whole retirement thing was just so arrogant ploy of “Oh, I am simply just so bored of always winning.”  Fuck off.  That is the least compelling reason for anyone to do anything.  Especially for someone in her position.  You’re not even #1, Cynthia, what the fuck do you mean you’re bored?  All this motivation serves to do is make you intolerably arrogant for no reason.  To say absolutely nothing of the sheer disrespect it paints toward Iris.  Iris also had you down to your last Pokemon and was battling pretty well, but apparently absolutely nothing in that counted for anything?  Nothing Iris accomplished made you feel excited about battling, or like there was something worth doing in the fight?  Are you goddamned kidding me?  Fuck Iris I guess, not even good enough to register.  Oh but Ash is though.  I guess if you wanted to showcase a divide in his skill compared to Iris, there you go.  Just grind the poor girl further in the dirt, why don’t you?  But at the top of this list of bullshit, there is the most frustrating aspect of this whole situation.
THAT’S JUST VOLKNER
Apparently the anime’s grand plan of action with Cynthia was to whole-hog rip off Volkner’s entire personality.  I’ve been on record saying I can’t stand Volkner, and it’s because of this exact thing.  Dude, you’re a Gym Leader in a region with a proper Elite Four.  There are five people at minimum who are better than you in the region, and you’re bored of battling because no one’s challenging enough for you?  Sounds like a you problem.  Like maybe you’re avoiding facing off against opponents that obviously exist and can challenge you, and then complaining when there’s not enough challenge.  It’s intolerably arrogant, self-important, and stupid.  And despite having plenty to draw from on the topic of a regional champion, this is all they could think to do for her.  Copy the worst personality trait of a gym leader from her own region.
I legitimately don’t know what I expect anymore.  I got two parts of really fun engagement with the battle, before the anime decided to remind me it can’t do anything right with its characters.  I’m just blown away at how little everyone matters.  Lance and Steven get swept aside and effectively do nothing.  Iris gets a little but is unceremoniously pushed aside, her entire association with Ash as a former travel companion and rival just rendered meaningless.  Diantha gets a really cool debut fight, only to be obliterated off-screen and pushed aside for Leon, who has been given exactly 0 personality thus far.  And now Cynthia just gets her entire personality obliterated and replaced with Volkner.  What an absolute shitshow.  In for a penny and all that, I’ll get to Ash vs. Leon eventually, but boy I am not expecting anything beyond the battle anymore.

here for the red string of fate event :3
I'm Aki, I'd like one for marble hornets/creepypasta, I go by they/them, I'm 18, and I'd like a romantic one please
My offering is a small cat plushie I've had since I was a child. Take care of it, please. I'd say that I'm a pretty charming person. People tend to approach me a lot, despite the fact that I'm fairly quiet and reserved at first, although I still try to be polite and friendly. I can get pretty anxious, but I'm good at masking it, for the most part. I love making people smile and laugh, and I like to think I'm funny. I'm very caring, and cannot stand seeing people hurt. I always try to be there for my friends (and sometimes even strangers), even at the cost of my own health. I tend to be a bit stuck in the past. I think it has to do with all the trauma I endured, although I also like to think of the fond memories, even though they make me sad because I'll never be able to go back to that.
I like cute things, especially a specific kind of "kawaii" aesthetic, things like Kirby and Sailor Moon. I also play a lot of video games of a large variety. I'm pretty passionate about music, particularly musical theatre. Someday I'd like to write and compose my own musical. I can also play piano and bass guitar.
I'm INFP, my favorite animals are puffins and cats, and my favorite pokemon is Mimikyu and Oshawott (I don't think that really matters, I just wanted to share it with someone)
I hope the length suffices! I can go off on tangents, so I edited this the best I could
[Disclaimer: The Red String of Fate event is a special event I'm running from August 12th, to whenever I feel it necessary to end - right now, I'm giving it to the first week of September! Check out rules HERE]
Somewhere, high up in his palace under the moon, the God Yue Lao pets the top of the cat plushie you've gifted him as his companion cat purrs on the side of his lap. The two of them read over your letter again and again, the God fixated on who you are as a person. His almost glassy, moonlight struck eyes drift over to quite a few potential matches, but settle on a man he thinks would suit you best.
A small smile comes to his lips as he rises and rests the cat plushie on one of his many beloved bookshelves to keep his own cat company. He hums to himself and looks around his dwelling for some thread, some of the sweetest he can get his hands on. The thread he chooses, it's a bit hesitant as it unwinds across his fingers. He attaches it to your left pinky, and then looks down on the men and women he thinks suit you best.
And there he sees him, a tired man sitting in his car head resting on the top of the wheel. It looks like the man needs some levity in his life, and Yue Lao feels pleased with knowing how bright and sweet you are. He does not know what Pokémon are, but he takes a mental note to check in later. He attaches the nearly hesitant string to the tired man's right pink, and then severs it with a snap from the spool. He blows his breath into the night, rousing the man from his daze and watches the scene unfold.
Back on earth, Tim Wright feels a slight tug on his pinky. He absentmindedly scratches at it before his brows raise - when the hell did that get there? A thin red string leading out of his open car windows to somewhere he just knows he needs to follow. He starts his car up and begins to drive, faster and faster, unaware that he's breaking limits to follow the thing as it begins to glow. He can't shake the feeling that's overcome him, only that the string seems to beckon him.
Tim drives long, stopping only for the night to rest and ponder the curious tie on his pinky and why it won't come off or break. When he drives, he wonders where it will lead him. Eventually, that string leads him to your neighborhood. His tires crunch softly over the asphalt to park in front of your home and he watches is it curiously trails up and under your front door. His steps are almost hesitant as he reaches it, his breath held as he raises his hand to knock.
You swing the door open, amazed that the God has actually answered your prayers. "Hello?" You say, waving your left hand with a string attached. The string glows brightly, pulsing between the two of you to match the racing of your hearts. You can feel heat rising to your face just looking at him.
He's speechless, but the tired, thankful smile that reaches his lips tells you all you need to know about his thoughts in regards to a wish granted.
