Hi hi again :D
Saw this RO ask from another blog and got curious SO-- if the ROs were in an orpheus/eurydice situation, would they look back or make it out without looking? (ㆁωㆁ)
ohhh greek myth is my Shit i love this okay
there's honestly less angst than you would expect in these askdh
LOOKS;
A. Bellefleur; they can't bear the thought of not seeing you again, so much so that they just have to be certain you're behind them, that you're there. they never quite recover not getting you back, there's always something about their interactions from then on that feels hollow and...empty
A. Caras; they don't trust like that, especially not with authority. they don't agree to the conditions in the first place, and if/when forced into it they almost immediately turn around. they are smiling sadly, and apologising, asking that you understand why they didn't take 'some lowlife god's' word for it. they wear your favourite flowers in their hair until the day that they die, telling you all about their week when they visit your grave at the weekends
MAKES IT;
K. Valiev; you say you're behind them? they believe you. they have such blind trust in you that they would, quite literally, go to hell and back. they give you the warmest smile upon reaching the surface, welcoming you back with a hug (you notice, despite their calm demeanour, that they squeeze you just a little tighter)
T. Bellefleur; they struggle, they really do, but they make it. they spend the journey sending back witty quips about the scenery, joking that they'll move the both of you into a flower field to make up for the time you've spent in the monochrome of the underworld. when you get to the surface you notice they're shaking as they turn around and look at you, picking you up by the waist and twirling you delightedly when they realise you're right there
M. Serrel; they issue you your own condition, as they start back: if you speak to them before the surface, they will turn back. there is determination in their voice as they say it, and almost immediately after you affirm you've heard, they begin to walk. if you speak again, they turn back, looking at you with a mix of sadness and betrayal as they apologised. if you don't speak then they make it, turning back to face you at the surface with a relieved smile, burying their head in the crook of your neck and apologising profusely

Thoughts on Talia joining the batfam with her own bird themed vigilante identity?
it could be fun, but it doesn't really fit Talia imo. we see in her lexcorp era that the change she wants to bring happens at a higher level. she can and will fight with words and play mindgames all day, surround herself with people she loathes to take them down. even earlier, she's not someone who enjoys fighting physically. she's great at it, but it's satisfying for her the way it is for someone like Bruce. she has other ways of pursuing justice, and she doesn't need a mask for those.

I thought it was hilarious, at first, that everyone’s decided Doomguy is still the protagonist of MyHouse.wad. After all, it doesn’t really have much more to do with Doom than gmod has to do with Half-Life 2. But then I remembered, isn’t that a plot point of Doom II? Visiting the burnt out ruins of your hometown on your way to the portal to Hell? Why couldn’t Doomguy take a few minutes to have a nightmare of an emotional journey in a childhood friend’s home to come to terms with everyone and everything he ever loved being destroyed?

i swear to god sega must be choosing which 3d sonic games they wanna rerelease at random because none of their choices here make any sense when i said they should focus more on making the 3d games more accessible instead of re releasing the classic games a million times this isnt what i meant

I’ve been playing Mario Galaxy again and it just occurred to me. I never 100%-ed this game? Like ever?? As a kid it’s understandable bc some of the later levels are p difficult (especially the comets) but even as an adult. I’ve played this game a few times and just never…..fully completed it nfndndn
Anyway I got 120 stars for the first time in my LIFE and I’m p jazzed about it actually. I probably won’t play through the game as Luigi for a while bc I’d rather not sit through all those levels all over again but when I come back to play it in a year or two! The Luigi run will be waiting for me.
I’m so so hyped to play Galaxy 2 I actually wanted to start with that but I figured I’d start with Galaxy 1 bc it’s a classic and also way shorter than 2 so (Literally. Beat it in 2 days). Lol

Just saw the video and commentary you posted around the poverty cosplaying and I just want to add that there used to be a different place in Arkansas that did a similar thing, sorta. It was through a charity organization that shifted focus so they no longer run the program, but they used to have a "global village" where people would get assigned different regions of the world to live in by lottery with a couple key differences. First, they used actual names of actual countries and provided actual information about the country/culture. Secondly, it wasn't for mission training but instead was meant to be an educational tool to help middle school and high school students to consider how existing in different global and socio-economic circumstances change your decision making etc. and in depth discussion and educational activities were facilitated frequently. I went there as part of an overnight high school trip and while in retrospect the "poverty cosplaying" does give me the ick I still feel like that particular program was informative. Mostly I'm shook that two distinct programs like this exist in AR? I've literally never heard of the Harding one from the video until now and went on a Google deep dive to see if they were connected in some way, but not that I can tell. Anyway, no deep thoughts really, just thought it was super interesting/weird.
There is something in the water over there in Arkansas man lol. I can never learn just some normal fact about AR, it's always something weird.
I totally understand wanting to create more empathy for those who live in poverty, especially in teenagers who are in a really formative years of their lives. And it's one thing to replicate conditions in your immediate area which you are intimately familiar with, but I just can't get on board with play-acting poverty in different areas of the world. I just think about how I'd feel if some religious group in another country tried to replicate my life experience for shock value.
Even replicating the conditions semi-well can't replicate the actual stakes faced by the people they're cosplaying. You can't replicate the stress of a single mother working 2 jobs and supporting 3 kids in a one-room house, you can't replicate the stress of food insecurity and legitimately being worried about when your next meal will be, etc etc. And something about pretending to do them when you can just go back to normal life at any time just feels disrespectful in a way I can't really articulate.
Idk if people get something from it that's great and I do get the thinking behind the one you described at least, I'm mostly still ranting about the first camp lol. I don't have any doubt that some of the people running the camp you went to had good intentions (the other one though I'm really not sure based on the town names) I just have a lot of mixed experience in Christian missionary culture where poverty is treated voyeuristically which is just definitely the vibe I got from the first camp.

“maybe if i, an 8yr old, managed to talk sense into my groomed and deeply traumatised 13yr old brother, maybe he wouldn’t have accidentally almost killed himself and become a villain” and no one in that room disagreed with him??
#none of them?#not one of them went hey maybe it wasnt on us literal children to try and help him?#this is where the endeavour redemption completely lost me#it was as well written as it could be up until this point#natsu still hating him fuyumis trauma response of lets just bury everything and be a normal family shoutos conditional forgiveness#especially when endeavour said ill buy you all a house and you never have to see me again#i could live with that. i hate it (make him face a lasting consequence for the love of god) but i could live with it#he doesnt deserve forgiveness and he deserves every ounce of emotional pain hes experiencing bc holy shit he irrevocably ruined five lives#but then they really turned around and said yeah us victims share the blame for how touya turned out#what the fuck#reis level of blame is debatable since even if she was mentally stable she was still always in the mindset of hey this guy Bought Me#and his continued Buying Me will fund my parents who Sold Me to him#even before any anbuse happened she was never going to be able to stand up to him#endeavour groomed touya just like afo did with shigaraki except even worse bc it happened from day dot#then he completely cut him off from the thing he groomed him to be and dumped him on rei until he got the child he wanted#dabi was never anything but endeavours fault and the fact that the narrative is trying to make them all share the blame#and frame it as a see endeavour when we all share fault and support you isnt it easier for you? cant you stand up and solve the problem now?#its the most classic victim blaming ive ever seen and were supposed to just take it and be like aw theyre facing dabi as a family#fuck off#and even then he still freezes and makes shouto fight dabi#you cant do it so i the 16yr old you also abused will fight my brother the kid you drove to accidental suicide for you#and when he finally gets over himself (after shouto is nearly killed dont forget that) and decides hes finally strong enough to fight him#were supposed to cheer that moment?#yay hes finally going to look at touya! were the fuck was he an hour ago cause he aint done shit against afo#the family needs to share blame and support him so he can face the blame and support himself fuck off#go beyond plus ultra#coming out of my cage and ive been doing just fine.txt#endeavour#dabi#todoroki shouto

man do i love green goblin and do i HATE how he's usually handled
#reading classic amazing sm and was extremely disappointed that the osborn's death after min(if any) time as goblin trope was canon all along#norman's characterization tho... 100/10 HE IS SO INSANE AND PATHETICCCCC. EASILY MY FAVORITE ONE#also i love how initially his corrupt businessman side wasnt explored anyhow unlike modern interpretations that tend to not explore goblin#the perfect goblin is spectacular one tho. hes got it all. even mysterio-level scams about his identity and death. the actual masterplanner#harry!goblin is.. idk a grown ass man flying around ny as fucking goblin AND HAVING INSANE BEEF WITH HIS SON'S CLASSMATE is so much funnier#whatever harry might do he will never reach This Level#im sorry classic!norman's motivation for being goblin is 'OOOH... NOBODY UNDERSTANDS... I HAD TO DO IT FOR HARRY...' AND THEN TURNS OUT#HARRY IS NOWHERE NEAR HIS ORIGIN EXPLANATION. JUST SOME GREEN GOO EXPLODED INTO HIS FACE AND HE DECIDED TO DRESS UP AS GOBLIN AND DO CRIMES#i have no idea how stan lee did it but the lazy 'chemicals as the reason for villain's mental illness' thing NEVER SLAYED THAT HARD. EVER#he is so silly and hilarious and MISERABLE and he makes ZERO FUCKING SENSE ghrgahtshhgrgr#and the way his amnesia works is THE DUMBEST THING EVER and AT SOME POINT I FUCKING LOVE IT???? WHYYYYY#AND THE WAY BEING GREEN GOBLIN IS APPARENTLY TRANSMITTED NOT ONLY GENETICALLY BUT ALSO THROUGH AIRBORNE DROPLETS ON THERAPY SESSIONS????#green goblin#norman osborn#amazing spider man

saw godzilla x kong
good movie, fun, nothing particularly earth-shattering but I dont think it had to be (nor did it want to be)
but
I'm not sure that Godzilla X Kong was. the best title for it. Whoever came up with it has NO idea what X is used for in fanfiction, clearly...

Also the non-linear storytelling completely results in….no storytelling imo. Nintendo is so aware of the fact that players might not do things in the order they want (if they even do them at all) so all the information has to be really minimal and repetitive in case somebody only does one temple or whatever. TP and OOT and MM and literally every other Zelda game put you directly in the path of the main antagonists or have really drastic things happen while you’re there. Where TOTK/BOTW it’s like, everything really intense happened a super long time ago and you watch a video about it and then go back to hunting frogs or whatever

It is such a delight how well “Jean Valjean” and “Evrémonde” can substitute for each other.

I hope you don’t mind me asking but what’s the backstory for gnat. Why are they in wonderland.
they're a roleholder! they function as a spy that must be hired by a territory while they're in play (which im realizing can set up a fun joke of: even if you really dont want them around. SOMEBODY has to take them in. sorry thats da rulez.)
I am still coming up with some specific details.... i flipflop a lot on their origin thoughts (revived/natural birth/integrated outsider) but tonight let's spin the wheel and say they were created from just a normal fixed clock?
something i also have been rotating in my mind is that maybe they stand for a half-hour instead of a full hour (allowing them on a 12-roleholder board such as the one youd see in game already . by my extracanonical justifications that i have made up.) possible designations ive been rolling around in my head have been 11:45-12:15 or 3:30-4:00 but dont take those as oc-canon just yet.

im literally begging every teen who complains about classical lit they were taught in high school to like wait a few years and go back and re-read that shit when you’re in your 20s and 30s. like. i absolutely think you can get and love the classics as a teen, but i do feel like there are so many books that just hit different as an adult. your worldview is so different, your connection to real life is more vivid, and the stuff that maybe flew over your head or seemed boring or unimportant in books actually hit. i also just think it’s really important to read classics outside of the classroom setting in general like - yeah, read it for fun! i don’t care if it takes three years to finish or if you only listen to the audiobook or you just end up not finishing it, but i feel like part of what helps make a connection to these books is discovering it yourself, with nobody holding your hand or pushing you along. (this is not anti-english class!!! english class is SO necessary and wonderful and teaches you so many good essential skills.)
idk like the anti-intellectualism surrounding reading cults (here’s to looking at you booktok) is honestly mind-numbingly frustrating and the refusal to see any inherent worth in the classics because the last time you read them was when you were bored and frustrated in your 10th grade english class is..... stupid. read them again as an adult! read them again for fun! there’s so much shit i hated as a teen i love now and yes that also applies to books by stuffy white men!

Oh, as an addendum to the last ask about Enstars and classics, I'd be remiss not to point out how much Wonderland/Peter Pan coding Enstars has. Not even mentioning the Neverland event, and also just focusing more on the Wonderland imagery, it's just....
You have a girl who is put in a new and kind of crazy world that makes little sense and finds herself in the company of bright and shinny and somewhat idealistic (major oversimplification, I know) "lost" boys with a lot of past baggage who are trying to find their way out of the mess of a war's legacy. She meets a whole cast of colourful characters, not excluding Ra*bits (they have a whole wonderland song, I'm pretty sure, and Wonderland has very notable rabbits/hares) and Madara (Cheshire Cat coded to me) and Valkyrie (their initial and somewhat "stuck in one time" thing makes me think of the March Hare and the Hatter).
And that's not excluding that Knights (if I'm interpreting the little I've seen about their Reminiscence story) has strong chess pieces energy that makes me think of Alice in Wonderland's sequel. And, of course, Alkaloid being the card soldiers...that's kind of hard to miss.
I'm pretty sure if I read more stories and refreshed my memory on the Alice books, there would be more parallels/imagery but for now...
