inspired by this great edit by @thestarlesssaint : in an alternate universe, they meet again after 5 years and fell in love
Eddie remained there, in Hawkins with his uncle -until Wayne had a heart attack on a february's night, and their trailer became his trailer. Bills has to be paid, even for an outcast, so he took a job at the plant. Family tradition. Chrissy left 5 years ago for college and didn't come back, only for Christmas or other family reunions - until a phone call during her internship ("Your mother just had a stroke. We fear for her health.") and against any logic, she fears for it too. The two of them meet again for the first time at The Brick (the new bar following Benny's Burgers) that Chrissy entered for a phone call to her brother - something about their mother's drugs she has to buy at the pharmacy but she forgot the list made of complex names.... "Chrissy Cunningham." I know that voice. Her head turns slowly and finds a pair of warm brow eyes and a crooked grin by the counter, drinking a fresh Busch. "Eddie Munson," she replies back, using the same tone. "Well, Chicago’s air seems to suit you," he takes another sip of his beer and stands up, moving a step forward. He's still noticeably taller than her. "You look good." "You too. I mean, you look..." her hands gesture to his short hair, "different." "Yeah. Buzz cut. Again." The answer, alluding to their conversation at a picnic table years ago, relieves Chrissy -she is not the only one remembering every second of it. "It was highly suggested to me to do it when I was hired at the plant. Security things and stuffs like that... whatever. It is growing back." She smiles and wishes she didn't have to go to the pharmacy before closing time. It is so natural, easy, pleasant to be beside Eddie, contrary to all the other people from her past she bumped into during the last 48hours. When it comes to him, the perspective to know every details that happened in his life these past 5 years sounds captivating. "I’m very happy to see you Eddie," Chrissy whispers, and the way his hold around the Busch’ bottle tightens imperceptibly tells her that he returns the sentiment. "How are you?"

Mikey Goes To Oz
Tumblr media Tumblr media
<Time spent: 49 hours 17 minutes>
When Mikey takes some time away from a loud family squabble he accidentally ends up getting “flushed” down the sewers. This winds up sending him to the colorful land of Oz where he meets a good witch, a wicked witch, a brainless scarecrow, a heartless Tinman, a cowardess lion, and a powerful wizard, all disguised behind very familiar faces.
A canon adjacent spin off set before the season one finale but after they discover Splinter is Lou Jitsu
I wanted to fit each of the boys into their “you’ve had this all along” category. Leo isn’t brainless, in fact he’s pretty clever with a street smart, people reading ability on par with Donnie’s intelligence. Donnie isn’t heartless, he just has a tough time expressing his feelings. They are complex and unalgorithic but he can get just as excited or sad or angry as anyone, as much as he may deny it. Raph isn’t a coward, but being brave sometimes means admitting you’re scared and that you maybe don’t have all the answers. You dont have to be strong all the time and you don’t have to do it by yourself.
In the movie Dorothy’s journey home is also a representation of her running away. The important thing was to remember there were people who cared about her. Mikey is experiencing a similar phenomenon, wanting the escape the bad vibes in the lair. His “you’ve had it all along” is interesting because it is an object, since the Ruby kneepads could’ve taken him home the whole time. And sometimes getting home means going on a journey only to realize you never left.
I put April as Glinda because Glinda appears as a defender of the weak, and I see April in a similar light. Always willing to help and beat someone up if it is so required. Splinter as The Wizard of Oz represents Splinters own willingness to hide behind different personas, his running from the past and the pulling back of the curtain for Mikey in timeline. The Wizard grows through the movie, albeit quickly, and ends up leaving Oz to go home leaving his legacy with the scarecrow, the Tinman, and the lion. In this case the passing of the baton to his sons.
Meanwhile Draxum as the wicked witch felt much more how Mikey sees Draxum at this time in the show, mostly just an antagonistic force who wants something from them. Fun fact: I imagine throughout this dream, Draxum is uninterested in being the wicked witch but is pressed into it via plot. Hence his disinterest in being “melted.”
Additional characters not pictured: Big Mama as the Wicked Witch of the East (those were her Ruby kneepads!!) and Todd as the Mayor of Munchkin Land. If you can think of more, feel free to leave them in the comments or tags.

imagine one night when el & max are having a sleepover, max looks at the clock and says "it's 11:11!!" and el is like "yes? i am here" visibly confused with the little confused look she does and they sit there for a second just staring at each other until max giggles and explains what 11:11 is to el. then one day all the party is together hanging out in the wheelers basement, el gets up off the couch, excitedly exclaims out of nowhere "it is me me time!! you need to make a wish everyone!!!" and everyone is just like ???? until mike is like "what are you talking about?!" with his hands thrown up in the air and max facepalming. then el is like "it is time to make a wish. 11:11? do you know it?" and everyone ahhhs in realization while max just sits there facepalming, her face as red as a tomato before she gently pulls el's arm to have her sit back down next to her. then el is sitting there confused looking around, then whispering to whispering to max "did i say something wrong?" and max whispers back "no, no. everyone is just... boring. that's all." and el ahhs in acknowledgement, going back to sitting shoulder to shoulder with max as if nothing happened.
(after that, wherever el is, she always checks if it's 11:11. when it is, each time she says "it is me me time!! make a wish everyone!!")

You know, for a show with so many female characters that so many of us love given how they all get time in the spotlight one way or another and they fill that time up rather wonderfully since they are deeper and more developed than what we're used to seeing in general media, it is peculiar (to say the least) to see so few "alternative" ships to the main one.
I'm not saying the canon ship doesn't deserve its attention -- I'm wondering instead why the canon ship and it alone seem to guide the WN fans who just so happen to enjoy writing/reading fic or fanart or whatever.
You'd think all these cool women would inspire more ships or combinations thereof, but those of us who aren't invested in avatrice just... Float along, around one another, ignored (and, yes, mostly undisturbed too; being unpopular does have its advantages and that includes a lot less weirdos leaving you strange or awkward messages -- it does not, however, shield us from people flooding our goddamn tags on AO3 with fic that has nothing to do with our little ships and I do wish such negligence of the pairing itself meant we didn't have to deal with this spam...)
I am also not saying that fandom activity should be based solely on shipping (and recently someone on Reddit was rather confused by the fact that a lot of it is, which is quite an interesting topic to discuss in itself -- after all, there is more to fan creativity than shippy fic... Or there used to be), merely that, here, it appears that a canon relationship can outshine interest in the other, non-canon ones. It's already there and it was doubtless well-done by the show, so it's natural that it should claim people's attention, sure. It's just that being canon was never the parameter for whether people were interested in these or those two (or more) characters maybe being involved and trying to explore what that could mean through fanwork.
There has always been a complaint haunting fandom spaces concerning the minuscule amounts of f/f fic, art, discussion, w/e based on how few (interesting or sympathetic or relatable) female characters there are in media at large. So what I'm curious about is why fan creations made around WN -- a show that finally gives us a whole cast of female characters that are what we have been craving for decades -- don't also reflect its diversity.
There are alternative ships (I'm here, all happy in my tiny Doctor Superion bubble, and I know there are Camila/Lilith, Ava/Lilith, Mary/Shannon, Mary/Lilith shippers out there, so a warm hello to you if you're reading this), but go on AO3 and compare the numbers of things tagged with these proper pairings to the grand total of WN stories. Better (or worse) still, do so with the "otp: true" trick or simply by excluding avatrice from the search to see how many are left.
It's... A considerable difference. And a mystery, at least to me.

Three Cursed Princes
*these won't be actual fics, this is just conceptual - I only wrote the synopses
Tumblr media
Prince Yeonjun has known almost his entire life of the prophecy with his name. Written mere months after his birth, bringing shadow to cloud his parents' joy, the royal couple's most trusted advisor and skilled seer proclaimed that when the prince found his truest love, it would be at the price of a great sorrow. Whose sorrow, the seer could not determine, nor did she see a name of the one who completed the other half of the fate - the truest love. The tale of the prince's destiny was well known throughout the kingdom, with many parents from respected families discouraged from their aspirations of merging with the royal family through marriage by the warnings of the seers. Despite Yeonjun being the only child of the king and queen due to unfortunate circumstances, they pardoned him from his duty of carrying on the family line, wholeheartedly believing the fate they were sold. As a young man, Yeonjun himself only half believes the fortune that has been attached to his name, following him even in his years of childhood. But when he begins to fall for a girl from a neighbouring kingdom, breaking all the rules to sneak out at night to see her and quickly form a connection, he can't stop hearing the cursed story in his mind.
Though they know they should stay away from each other, though they know the predicted doom hanging over their heads if they give in to their attraction, they just can't bear to be apart. Will they be able to live with the cost of their love?
Tumblr media
Prince Beomgyu is about to marry the love of his life. A happy future lies ahead and the couple are excited to begin it. But when the prince is woken in the middle of the night by his distressed council, informing him of a horrible curse that has been placed, threatening to plunge the kingdom into eternal impenetrable darkness, Beomgyu must choose between his own happiness and the safety of his people. He’s horrified to learn that he must sacrifice all memory of the love he holds so dear in order to break the curse that looms over their heads, growing ever closer; he will not recognise her face, her name, all feelings he has ever held for her erased. Her memory, however, will remain untarnished. Feeling he has no choice, the prince agrees, bolting to the other side of the castle where his fiance is staying to see her one last time before the spell takes effect.
Can love break a curse, even if the one you love has no recollection of it?
Tumblr media
One should never anger the gods—but the gods like to hide in plain sight. Prince Kai hates hunting, but his uncle, his sole guardian, makes him join the hunting party as it's a long standing royal tradition. While he doesn't enjoy hunting animals, he has been trained in archery since he was young and is very skilled in the sport, never missing a target. On the trip he is pressured into shooting a deer, which it turns out is truly the god of the woods. As penance, the prince is cursed. Kai knows not what the curse entails, and lives in fear of the day he finds out. His uncle scours the land for someone who could divine the details of the magic placed that day, but to no avail; all they can do is wait to see it play out. But I can tell you, reader, the nature of the curse: when the prince finds his true love – and he will — the first kiss they share will draw her into the magic that binds their fate, and she will be forced to spend her days changing between human and doe, with the prince compelled to chase and hunt her against his own will, his own heart, for the rest of their time on earth.
Can Prince Kai find a way to break the spell before it drives him to lose the one he loves?

do you think there was backlash from other scavs when chief and arti befriended and eventually dated each other?
i imagine that quite a few of them would be less than eager to forgive the war criminal
there definitely was a backlash, but probably not to the extent that you'd expect. or at least not in the way you're thinking. both due to how the cycle works, and how I imagine scavenger culture works, i think a majority of them were willing to accept arti being integrated into the tribe, if only begrudgingly.
first and foremost, because arti didn't kill anyone permanently. there's a huge difference between killing and perma-killing, so while arti's crimes were certainly heinous and left a lot of scavs deeply traumatized, the fact that she didn't actually take anyone away from their loved ones made a big difference as to how many of them were willing to tolerate her presence. as long as she was no longer an active threat, most of them were more concerned with helping each other recover and heal from their collective trauma than with trying to interfere with whatever the king had going on with the murder cat.
secondly, and for similar reasons, I think a certain amount of lethal violence is just a normal part of scav culture. obviously nothing to the extent of what arti did, but based on how recklessly they behave in-game, i imagine it's common for scavs to kill each other over minor disputes, by accident, or even for fun. so, the capacity of scavs to move on and coexist with someone who killed them is a deeply ingrained social skill, because it's vital to keeping their society functioning.
of course, there are rules about how much violence is acceptable in any given situation, and just like anything else, breaking those rules requires payback. scavs keep close tabs on who owes what to whom, so anyone witnessing a murder would have a good idea of whether it's justified or not, and whether it warrants retaliation.
for example, if arti had the restraint to only kill the scavs directly responsible for her pups' death, the rest of the garbage wastes tribe would have been like 'ok yeah, fair'. they would've appointed some new toll guards, and the matter would've been considered settled. arti's reputation only tanked because she went way too far, and started targeting scavs who did nothing wrong.
so i think, to the metropolis scavs, arti's massacre was not so much an unspeakable evil as it was just a massive personal transgression. she slaughtered an entire tribe who owed her nothing, and in doing so, she incurred a massive debt to them. so when the king suddenly took a liking to her and decided to integrate her into the tribe, that didn't mean no one was allowed to harm her; it just meant they'd have to forgive her debt once she paid it.
the scav king really couldn't do anything to protect her from this without causing a full scale mutiny. (and honestly, arti is too proud to let him even if he tried. she knows she dug her own grave, and she's going to fucking lie in it as many times as it takes to earn her redemption)
however, he probably did have to set down some rules regarding how and where her victims were allowed to seek revenge, to prevent them from all mobbing her in the street. i imagine the official policy would've been something like:
all disputes with arti must be settled one-on-one in organized arena matches
arti is obligated to accept a challenge for every death she caused
the challenger can either fight her themselves, or they can choose someone to fight for them
anyone willing to fight for arti may do so if she allows it (she won't)
regardless of the outcome, the fight will be considered a blood payment and the dispute will be forgiven
any unprovoked violence towards arti outside of the arena will be considered violence toward an innocent person
thats about as lenient as he could get away with being, and still be fair enough for most scavs to accept. so, yeah, there was a backlash in the sense that many of them wanted revenge, and many of them got it. but it was mostly within the bounds of what's permissible, and it didn't cause any kind of major rift in their community. arti was willing to pay for her place in the tribe with her blood, and most scavs can respect that even if they still don't like her.
and as for the few who still weren't satisfied, and felt the need to make her suffer more than she deserved...
well. lets say they got a personal reminder of what happens to people who hurt the king's loved ones.

Will any of the alternate universe Bens be making an appearance? (23, Mad, No Watch, etc)?
Eeeeh, most likely not. ;?
I mentioned before that Omniverse events are sort of undecided in terms of HoM "canon", and that goes for the Ben10 multiverse too.
You can consider HoM as a separate Universe from cartoon canon, with its own multiverse! So, like I dunno, maybe I'll have an idea about a completely new alternative Ben to make an appearence. xD Or I just use the modified canon versions. Who knows!
