a humiliatingly long character analysis of lily evans
Someone sent me an ask that briefly mentioned how misunderstood Lily is, and before I knew it I was typing out this monster. I am. sorry. This is literally just me rambling about her, what I find compelling about her character, and why her character is so often misunderstood.
This is long as hell so I'm putting it under a read more lolol
Part of the reason I like Lily so much (other than my being ginger and projecting onto any redheaded female character I see) is that even though she isn’t explored as much as her other Marauders Era counterparts, we know enough about her to start building the framework for her character. And what I see is a girl who was incredibly interesting, kind, and flawed.
One thing I always think about in regards to Lily is that she was dealt with a pretty unfair hand. As soon as she receives her letter, she’s basically torn between two worlds, both of which have been less than welcome to her. On one hand, we have the muggle world that she’s known all her life, but once she starts integrating into the wizarding world, she likely feels a bit of a disconnect with that world. To twist the knife further, her sister- whom she loved dearly and grew up so close with- starts outwardly resenting her with such unbridled hostility that they likely couldn’t even be in a room alone together without major conflict.
On the other hand, we have the wizarding world– a world she’s not as familiar with and one she soon learns holds a demographic of people who hate everything she is and would rather see her excommunicated or even dead. And even though finding out you’re a witch/wizard is probably such an exciting and life-changing moment, I can’t help but also take note of the difficulties, especially if you’re the only one in your family with magic. You’re essentially uprooted from the only way of life you’ve known at an already complicated age, and now you have to quickly become acclimated to this new world that you only just found out existed. Not only that, but now you’re suddenly attending a school with classes that are primarily focused on this world of magic (which is still brand new to you), and you have to work extra hard to play catch up in order to do well. Like, that all seems like… a lot for a kid to handle.
And then I remember how young she was when she was thrown into that mess. She was only 11, and kids that age desperately crave any sense of belonging. I mean, that’s something that still holds true for adults, but it’s especially critical for a developing child. So imagine Lily, ages 11-15, struggling to stay afloat in this weird purgatory between these two parts of herself, both of which have been the cause for major and traumatic experiences relating to rejection in her life.
(I say it was the “cause” even though it’s obvious that those things were never her fault at all, but when you’re a young kid navigating the world, the only thing you’re able to process is that the common denominator is you, therefore you’re the one who must shoulder the blame.)
So now we have this tween-teenaged girl who has a dysfunctional relationship with two major parts of identity and probably feels absolutely lost.
This is why her hesitancy to end her friendship with Snape makes sense to me. Even though by fifth year he’s already well past toeing the line with the dark arts, Lily was willing to overlook some pretty egregious and troubling things in order to maintain the relationship. I kind of interpret that as her way of desperately clinging on to any sense of belonging she has left; her relationship with Petunia has already been poisoned, and now there are people who resent her existence as a witch; if she loses Severus too, what and who else does she have? And what tone does that set for her, if everyone and everything she’s come to hold close to her ends up turning her away?
It’s also important to note that not only is Severus one of her few remaining connections to the muggle world, but he’s also a wizard who grew up in the muggle world; he understands her, and I don’t doubt that he gave her some stability at times when she needed it (her finding out about her being a witch, her having trouble acclimating to the wizarding world, etc).
I see this as being one of her flaws and I can actually appreciate how relatable and realistic it feels. Lily is not a bad person; on the contrary, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone to describe her as such. Not to get all clinical and boring, but the interesting thing about (unhealthy) coping mechanisms is that it can actually be really hard to identify them in your own behavior. Unless you’re in therapy and/or are actively psychoanalyzing yourself, you likely don’t even realize how many of your common behaviors are born from self defense mechanisms put in place by your brain after past events.
To me, it makes sense why she avoided actually confronting the idea that Snape was too far gone. We know that she was aware of the path Severus was taking, but it almost seems like she was still convinced that she could save him, and could possibly steer him back in the right direction. It’s only when she becomes the target of his bigotry that she realizes that the Snape who called her a ‘mudblood’ was not the same Severus who was the one who held her hand and introduced her to this new, exciting world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a general sense, yes, it is selfish, to only take a stand when something starts affecting you personally. But I also think it’s important to note that it’s unlikely that this was a conscious decision on Lily’s part. In my eyes, it was easier to delude herself into thinking she still had a chance to save him before it was too late when she was able to separate him from his actions (considering, a lot of the time, she was only hearing about them after the fact, rather than seeing them firsthand). But the elusion is shattered once she sees that the Snape she grew up with– her friend, Severus– is, in fact, the same person who’s out there calling other students slurs, dismissing the malicious use of Dark Magic on others as just “a laugh”. There we see a Lily who is actually revealed to have been somewhat aware of Snape’s involvement with the darker side of magic, and genuinely feels pretty ashamed about her inaction.
Tumblr media
Also, this is in no way me being a Snape-anti, and I actually could do an entire separate analysis on his character alone and why I find him so interesting.
Anyways, that moment in SWM is probably somewhat of an epiphany to her. It’s like a dam that’s been broken, and now she’s overwhelmed with the realization of exactly how much she overlooked in order to keep their friendship afloat. And for someone like Lily Evans, someone whom we know is opinionated and unafraid to call others out on their bullshit, that can be hard to swallow and feel pretty mortifying and shameful. And I think this was a huge turning point for her- at that point, she doesn’t have the luxury of avoiding uncomfortable truths anymore and now that she’s getting closer to graduating and being thrown out into the world on the brink of war, this was probably a really sobering discovery.
This is where we don’t have as much info to go off of, and a lot of it is up to interpretation. But we actually have little crumbs to go off of following her graduation and leading up to her death.
One of my favorite little tidbits isn’t in the books, and @seriousbrat's post reminded me about it. Here's the actual entry on Pottermore for anyone who's interested, but I'll summarize: after James and Lily began dating, Lily brings James to meet newly engaged Petunia and Vernon. Everything goes downhill, because Vernon is a smarmy asshole, and James is still pretty immature and can’t help but mess with him (which… fair, I guess). Petunia and Vernon storm out after Petunia letting Lily know that she had no intentions of having her as a bridesmaid, which causes Lily to break down into tears. I mention this because I also think it’s a pretty important aspect of her character; like we’ve seen in her past friendship with Snape, Lily seems more than willing to forgive others most of the time. Petunia is a bit of a complicated character herself, but she was objectively very cruel and unfair to Lily once it became obvious that she was a witch and Petunia was not.
Tumblr media
Something that always stands out to me is just how desperate Lily is to earn Petunia’s trust and approval again. Even up until her death, she was more than willing to mend the relationship, were Petunia ever to consider.
This is a detail about Lily that I feel is misunderstood quite a bit. I’ve seen a lot of instances of her character being reduced to a one-dimensional archetype with little to no complexity. And often, that archetype is “know-it-all, prudish, self righteous bookworm who is also a goody two-shoes with a stick up her ass”. What annoys me is that the reason for this is most definitely the scene in which she blows up at James in SWM for bullying Snape, and hurls quite a few insults at him directly after an extremely devastating and overwhelming situation for her. This frustrates me because we know for a fact that she’s the polar opposite of this archetype I’ve seen her reduced to.
Tumblr media
In actuality, she’s referred to as popular, charming, witty, bright and kind. From flashbacks we also are shown that she’s opinionated, bold, and not afraid to challenge others. With other context, like her interpersonal relationships, we can also see that she’s pretty emotionally driven and wears her heart on her sleeve.
(I know Remus didn’t mention Lily much in the books, but I really love how he described her in the movies. He tells Harry that the first thing he noticed about him was not his striking resemblance to his father, but his eyes, the same eyes Lily had. He also calls her a “singularly gifted witch” and an “uncommonly kind woman”.
“She had a way of seeing the beauty in others, even and perhaps most especially, when that person could not see it in themselves.”
I know there are mixed feelings on whether or not the films count as canon source material, so take it with a grain of salt, but I personally cannot see a world in which Lily and Remus didn’t become close friends.)
Here we have a direct description of what she was like and who she was, corroborated by recounting of memories of her, and yet for some reason, this feels like the thing that is most commonly lost in translation.
I don’t think I can say why I think that is without mentioning the dreaded M word (misogyny- it’s misogyny), but I also don’t want to get too off topic so I’ll be brief: female characters are typically not given the same grace as male characters. When we have an undeveloped male character, he’s awarded the assumption that despite his lack of depth, there still exists a complex and multifaceted character– it’s merely just potential that hasn’t been tapped into. Whereas when we have underdeveloped female characters, they are taken at face value, meaning that not much exists beyond the little information we have of them. They are not presumed to have a life or a story that exists beyond the surface of what we know like male characters are. That’s why I think characters like Regulus, Evan, or Barty (just to name a few) are more popular than Lily, despite being less developed than she is.
(Before anyone gets defensive, no, I don’t think it’s an individual problem that you alone need to be shamed for. I think it’s the result of a deeper issue regarding misogyny in media as a concept; these are things that we’ve all unknowingly internalized and while it’s not our fault, we still have to do the work to deconstruct those learned prejudices.)
What I find really cool about her character is that despite how much she’s been hurt, she’s also still known as one of the most loving, kind, and considerate characters. There were so many times in her life where the love she received was conditional and ripped away from her– and I think that’s what makes her sacrifice even more poignant. She was able to protect her infant son from an extremely powerful dark wizard, wand-less, knowing that her husband was just murdered in cold blood, just from how much love she felt for Harry. Her love was a force of nature on its own, and I just think that’s such an amazing thing about her.
I know I’m biased, given that she’s one of my favorite characters, but even upon delving into this, I still just find it so incredibly hard to understand how anyone can actively hate her (not indifference, but actual dislike). In my opinion (again, no one is unbiased, and she is a favorite character of mine, but trust me when I say that I’m trying to be objective as possible when I say this), she’s probably one of the most likable characters of the Marauders Era. I think perhaps a lot of people haven’t given her a chance or really taken the time to learn about her character, but it could be a myriad of other reasons that I’ll never understand.
There's so much more I could say but this is long enough and I will stop myself
Lily Evans, u will always be famous to me

hii PLEASE WRITE SOMETHING ABOUT A FIFTH MEMBER OF TOKIO HOTEL AND TOM
ps. YOURE AMAZING😭
✧˖°. Loving Tom Kaulitz as Tokio Hotel’s 5th member ˖°. ✧
Tumblr media
AN: Love this request!! You didn’t specify if you wanted something in particular so I decided to develop on how you guys got together after years of conflicted feelings, it starts with headcanons and ends in a little drabble :) I hope you enjoy!!
⟡ As for general dating headcanons, I’ve been considering writing a post for each member following my little TH 5th member series, so you can imagine how it’d be to date your favourite guy (or all of them) ⟡
Warnings: none really, reader implied as bi but it’s very subtle.
~ Happy Reading
Alright Alright. First of all we need to set the record straight. No matter for how long you guys had known each other and had mutual crushes it would take a WHILE before you got together.
As the fifth member of Tokio Hotel, you guys probably met when you were young kids but you didn’t click instantly, your personalities clashed but there were two things that united you two; music and raising hell in your little village.
You would take your bikes and ride out into the mountains of Loitsche to drink and smoke a pack, maybe light a small fire because you were young and didn’t care about consequences.
Hanging with your friends at your hideout and subconsciously ending up coddled up on the couch for warmth when the night got cold.
Tom pretended to hate it when you wore his hats and it did genuinely annoy him from time to time, but what can he say, they looked good on you.
You took it upon yourself to burst his bubble whenever he got any crazy and unreasonable idea.
You would always bicker and tease one another.
You were that pair of kids that people said would end up together but you guys gagged and denied.
Me with him?? Not in a hundred years, I’d rather walk on lava.
Tom would always say you were ugly and not his type, while deep down he knew you were the most beautiful in town. He simply refused to admit it, and would continue calling you his ugly piglet.
On your side, you probably insisted that his don juan act was cringe and that he would never get a girlfriend.
As time went on and your band flew into stardom, Tom and you had to learn how to properly work together.
You learned how to be gentler to one another during those endless nights of rehearsing your new songs.
You never really cared about physical closeness with him, but one time when he came behind you and helped you with your guitar tabs you suddenly felt nervous around him for the first time. The way his arms wrapped around you and his hands guided your fingers.
You were left wondering after that.
As members of the hottest band in Germany, you inevitably were surrounded by people ready to tear their clothes off and worship you.
We know real well that Tom fell into temptation, but did you?
If you did, it wasn’t rare for you two to discuss your recent hook-ups whenever you got a moment to yourselves in the tour bus or during rehearsals.
You’d chat about how good the head you got last night was or how you somehow ended up in a threesome.
Something switched in Tom’s brain during that time, no matter how many girls he “fell in love with for a night” no one could compare to how happy you made him.
Around you he could be himself. The Tom that’s scared of the future, the sweet boy that enjoys video games and laying around doing nothing, the Tom that craved physical touch but never knew how to ask, the boy that always had your back, who always kept a protective eye on you, even when you couldn’t see it.
As for you, your feelings were conflicting.
You knew Tom was not one for relationships and it was a bad idea to fall for him, but how could you not when he was the one that would always listen to your doubts and wishes, the one that never changed his attitude around you when you became famous, the boy that swore he was though but he needed your reassurance before going on stage.
Unlike he did for the girls that he took in his hotel rooms around the world, Tom never judged you only based off your looks. In fact, he never really cared before. He did find you beautiful (even though he called you his ugly piglet) but your person had always jumped right at him.
When he realized how much happier he was around you is that he started to note how beautifully your hair flew in the wind when you played on stage. How your hips moved to the rhythm of your songs. How your eyes lit up when you were served your favourite food or how you’d bite your lip when you concentrated.
It was all so new to him, he even despised the feeling of being so hooked on one person.
You guys probably took refuge in your occasional hook ups with groupies (that you would then flaunt to each other and the band) but it never felt as right. The physical pleasure didn’t fulfill that desire to know one another even better and break down your barriers.
Everyone around you could see it except you two.
Your staff probably put their bets on the table.
This constant pining went on for ages. Literally.
You were now far onto your third tour, 1000 Hotels around the world and Tom and you still seemed as oblivious to your fat crushes.
You began to show more physical affection. Such as Tom’s arm around your shoulders when you sat on the bus tour couch, occasionally tapping your thigh when he laughed, resting your arm on his shoulder when sitting next to each other or resting your head on him to drift off during long drives.
Nights when Tom would drop by your room with a bottle of vodka and chips to have your own little party because he couldn’t leave the hotel.
A certain morning you woke up tangled in Tom’s limbs and instantly freaked out checking if you still had clothes on.
Tom got way more possessive over you. His excuse was that the band grew and more people were all over you, but he just wanted you to himself.
This routine of pining but denying dragged on til one cold night you gathered the courage to try something new.
“Do I have your consent to try something I’ve been wanting to for a while now?” You asked looking down and fidgeting, picking at your cuticles to distract yourself from Tom’s gaze. “Should I be scared? Give me a reason to trust you” he said jokingly. You were sitting close for your thighs to rub yet far enough for you to have to shift in your place to reduce the gap between your faces. “Close your eyes” You didn’t know where you got the courage to say that but it did earn you a playful eyebrow raise from the boy you’d been hiding your feelings from for the past couple years. He knew where this was going, he was smart enough to read through your obvious lines yet he was still feeling that thrill. Your gentle hand grasped his cheek in a feather light touch, barely even there while you rested the other on his thigh. You had to take in another deep breath and cancel every thought that ran through your head at that very moment like it was a life or death situation. In a swift movement you locked your lips on his, not as smoothly as you would’ve wanted but good enough to satisfy your impulse. Panic set in when Tom remained still for the fraction of a second. Shit, what if you fucked it up. Few seconds more of stillness and you had to pull back reluctantly. You wanted to tell him he could open his eyes now, that it was okay and, that’d you’d leave but nerves got the best of you and you could only sit around looking at the carpeted floor nervously. Well fuck, you really messed it up this time. Idiot. An “I’m sorry” escaped your lips in a whisper, too focused on the matted carpet to see how Tom’s eyelids flustered open and his lips, that yours were previously on, formed into a small smile. “If you always kiss like that no wonder girls scurry away from you once they got what they want.” You didn’t know if a gasp or a scoff left your throat at that moment, was he being serious? “What, don’t act all shy after you just kissed me like that” You didn’t know what to say, it’s like your bones were suddenly paralyzed and you could only stare at his face. “I’m messing with you dumbass, cut the long face” On a move you weren’t awaiting Tom pulled you by your arm, getting you closer to his chest, and nearly losing balance, to lock your lips once more. This time differently. With hunger and eagerness. Sneaky hands rubbed up and down your back, coming to a rest on your hips as your lips moved firmly on each other. You did want more, but the surprise of his tongue grazing your lips had you pull back an instance. “Since when is the y/n so innocent, or are you playing good for me?” He tickled the soft skin of your hips, going up to your waist, who knew when his hands managed to sneak under your shirt. Your gaze lifted up and met his “This, us. What is it”. You didn’t know what was so funny to earn a chuckle from him. “Don’t know, but I don’t mind”
- AAaaAHHH this is not proof read yet I hope it’s not too terrible !!
Enjoy your night/day pookies!!!

How can you describe miguel mentally and emotionally ?
Oh man... This is a tough one. I'll start by saying that, even though we saw a glimpse of his mindset on ATSV, we still have sooo much to learn and know about him. (We just had it for 15 mins. jsksk)
I did this thing a while ago, focusing mostly on his grieving that addressed the rest just superficially.
I won't say I know him better than anyone cause
1. No. Characters evolve and I feel it'd be disrespectful af to just reduce him to a couple of traits or claim that I know him better than I know my nipple jsksk.
2. He's a complex character that is so well written that makes us all go psychoanalysing his behavior 🤭. (And love me a man that puts me to think)
But jokes aside.
He's emotionally unavailable. Simple as that. And though it might sound obvious to some, (And our savior complex kicks in and tell us to fix him 👀 yeah, I'm talking to us jsksk) there's no way we can do that, cause that's up to him ~. (And you can't help someone that doesn't wants to be helped.)
Healing takes time. And guess who overworks himself to the point of having his cortisol running 24/7 through his body? Miguel. He doesn't have time for therapy. His fear of watching it all go to hell once more is a too fresh wound. Some traumas last decades, and naturally people find ways around it without interacting with it directly to avoid reliving such impairment.
(I do appreciate the fact that in the new comic book, we see him trying to make amends with Conchata though. He's trying!!! :D.)
2. He's a patient man. I mean, he recruited after all versions of Spiderman that have this trait in common: They're perceived as friendly. And they're mostly young adults and teens. (Both are a handful btw. And most stories and comics Peter Parker is depicted as a 18-23 year old)
But they like pushing his buttons, (cracking a joke every 5 minutes, doing whatever they want even when specific orders were given) however. He doesn't strike me as someone that is mean on purpose, he's just wary but not totally closed off towards people. Wich is kinda contradictory on its own since:
You don't go around trusting people first hand upon just knowing them, right? 👀. But at the same time he showed Miles his own canon event, trying to empathise with him before dropping the bomb. (He was mentally preparing him, something he wasn't able to get but to experience the worst way)
A hypocrite truly. And not in the bad bad way (He calls a nerd the NWH Peter yet he is one) , cynic to an extent (Since he keeps repeating he's been the only one trying to keep it all together, meaning he still doesn't fully trusts the people around him.) A showoff (Did you see the way he turns towards Gwen when he first appears? Or the way he says "I was gonna do that") , arrogant to also an extent. ("It's much more cooler than a watch").
He took the job as a leader cause he knew none else was gonna, and if there was another one willing to assume the role, I'm sure he'd be dissatisfied with it's development cause our man likes to feel safe in when he's in control. (A trait often met in people with generalized anxiety)
And when he's not, his brain immediately goes into threat mode, but even so is able to adapt. (I have a theory he learned this the bad way. We've still got to see the origins of his Rapture intake though 🤔)
Now, we know this man is emotionally unavailable, through and through. His love is work. And married to it.
Now, I might get a bit controversial after this and some might not like it, but I don't think he wants another family after that. (We don't know much about this Miguel's background or family except that he was looking for things, and he found Gabi's universe. And for you to look into another universe in need to be happy says enough to imagine his family or is non existent or is really messed up.)
I know we want him to be happy, (And the producers better give him some healing and closure or else.) Cause he deserves everything. But grieving doesn't work like that. A loss like that is unmeasurable, it changes literally your brain chemistry forever. The least appropriate thing you'd do is have another kid or someone after such event.
(I've seen what that is an it's not nice. Specially for the involved kid)
But we're all ill here so Thank goodness fanfics exist ❤️
He allowed himself to be selfish enough to be happy, had his fun but consequences caught up to him. Consequences that he didn't know and now has him perpetuating his guilt and mind berating.
Hence the workaholic attitude, the coldness. He's done with establishing something with people in general, not just someone special. He's done of getting trampled by life, so he sticks with something he knows he can do very well and pours into it. The Multiverse is his hyperfixation.
Keeps him busy, keeps him on control but curiously and contradictory again, it keeps him needed and useful.
He's a walking contradiction. He doesn't need people to watch over him, not cause he doesn't deserves it. He knows that people worry about him, that's why he just minds his own thing to not be a burden.
Self-Sufficient, over achiever (Alchemax CEO & Spiderman, a genius, bilingual, probably more languages on his list cause he leads a multicultural and multidimensional task force babes ~)
He's not bad, he just doesn't know how to direct his anger or allows himself to feel properly and often rationalises his feelings. (Another coping mechanism where you're tired of feeling stuff and justify difficult or negative with logical thoughts)
But again, curiously knows how to communicate. I know it's fucked to say when he threw a trash bin to Miles before that. But! Hear me out.
Retaking the previous point, he was preparing Miles to give him the talk. After he throws the trash bin, he knows that anger won't solve things (Even though he wanted to give some chancla spanks to Miles for being an anomaly) So he chills, and you can see the transition between being completely furious to a more emotional approach. (Parenting surge there.)
He starts explaining everything from scratch, (literally with drawings and stuff) so Miles wouldn't be lost on what he was on about. Then they moved to the canon events, and shows his major trauma to him as a sign of empathy and an invitation to honest talk.
He admits he doesn't like what he does, and if you look closer his face is so damn distressed when locking Miles in the trap. It pains him, but again, someone has to do it, yet none is scarred enough to bear the burden.
I just want to hug him and send him to therapy. Cause he needs it. (Pretty sure he gave up on that too cause it was too time consuming.)
I'd be satisfied if the writers gave him that ❤️. But yeah. That's one of my many takes on him. Hope it helps c:

”Nighty Night, Son”
It's often said that the first year of parenthood can be challenging, especially for those who are welcoming their first child into the family. The birth of a new life is a profound moment that can shift your perspective on the world and yourself in ways you never imagined. Suddenly, you are entrusted with the care of a tiny, helpless being. For young Norman Osborn, this reality was not immediately apparent. While he was thrilled to learn he was going to be a father, he also harbored concerns about his ability to raise a child given his troubled past. Thankfully, his partner Emily stood by his side, offering reassurance that they would navigate parenthood together and that Norman would excel as a father.
Their son, Harry, proved to be a joyous addition to their family, despite being born with breathing difficulties and putting Emily's life at risk during childbirth. As they overcame these initial challenges, Norman and Emily found themselves enamored with their son. Harry was a content and easygoing baby, rarely crying and sleeping peacefully through the night. However, Norman's past traumas occasionally resurfaced in the form of anxiety about potential dangers that could befall their child.
"Honey, nothing bad will happen. Harry is healthy and everything is fine. Please stop worrying."
"Yes, I try, but I can't help my thoughts. I wasn't looked after and often got into trouble. I'm just trying to avoid that with our baby."
"You're so cute when you're nervous. Trust me, things will get easier as Harry grows older."
"Hopefully..."
However, life doesn't always follow the script written in textbooks. A particularly challenging time arose when Harry turned four years old. Suddenly, he refused to sleep in his own bed and insisted on being next to his parents every night. Norman was puzzled by this sudden change in behavior. Why did his son no longer want to sleep in his own room? This was a new development that had never occurred before.
"Why isn't he comfortable in his room anymore? Have we done something wrong?" Norman asked Emily one morning when Harry once again wanted to spend the night with them.
"It's a normal stage of development. Children seek comfort and security from their parents when they are young. Harry is still so little, and the world is full of unknowns for him. There's nothing unusual about it," his wife reassured him. Norman, however, was not convinced. "I don't think this is normal. I was taught to sleep alone as soon as I could walk. Something must have happened."
"Norman, I understand your concerns, but the way you were raised, being left alone at such a young age, was not right. Children deserve love and care from their parents. Harry is fine, trust me. Your worry is affecting him," Emily warned her husband. Despite his wife's reassurances, Norman remained unconvinced. He felt the need to talk to his son as soon as possible. The opportunity arose that same afternoon when Harry returned home with his nanny. Norman was waiting at the door, and as soon as the nanny left, he sat down with his son on the couch, ready to have a heart-to-heart conversation.
"Listen, son, there is something I want to talk with you."
"Ok, what is it, Daddy?"
"Well we have noticed that you have been avoiding sleeping in your room recently, and we are curious as to why. You used to enjoy spending time in there, so what has changed?"
Harry gazed at his father with his small, button-like eyes for an extended period before uttering words that caught Norman completely off guard.
"Because I'm scared."
"Why?"
"Because the boogeyman will take me if I sleep there."
"What boogeyman?"
"The one who comes to see me at night."
Norman was perplexed by the situation at hand. As a child, he had been frightened by the idea of monsters lurking in his closet, but he had always taken precautions to ensure his safety. Therefore, he viewed Harry's claims with skepticism and perhaps a hint of annoyance.
"Come on now. There's no such thing as monsters. You're just trying to avoid sleeping in your room," Norman stated firmly. Harry's response was immediate and defensive. "I'm not making it up! I'm telling the truth!" he insisted.
Norman raised a hand to interject. "Harry, I'm not in the mood for jokes. You know the consequences of lying."
Harry's eyes welled up with tears. "But I'm not lying, Daddy! Please believe me!"
Norman's tone grew stern. "That's enough. Starting tonight, you will be sleeping in your own room. It's time you faced your fears. Do you understand?"
Harry's expression shifted from hurt to defiance as he silently stormed out of the room. Norman let out a frustrated sigh and rose from his seat, feeling conflicted about the situation.
Boogeymen...tsk! He's so stubborn. However, he now realizes that there is no danger, and he can sleep peacefully on his own without any worries.
Over the next few days, Harry stopped coming to his parents at night, leaving Emily puzzled. One evening, she brought up the issue with Norman at bedtime and inadvertently overheard their conversation. This discovery left her feeling upset.
"You can't be serious. He's just a child, Norman! You can't dismiss his feelings like that!" Emily exclaimed. Norman defended himself, "I'm just trying to teach him not to panic over nothing. He needs to learn to take care of himself."
Emily retorted, "Do you even realize the harm you're causing to his young mind? He is our son! Who else will protect him if not us?"
Before Norman could respond, Emily continued, "You sound just like your father. Do you want Harry to experience the same treatment you did as a child? To have his fears ignored and receive cold treatment from his own father?"
Norman was taken aback by Emily's words. He realized his mistake and swallowed his pride. "I...I didn't mean it. I just wanted..."
Emily interrupted, "I know you want to toughen Harry up, but this isn't the right approach. Childhood is fleeting, and he has a lifetime to become a strong man. Don't let your past demons rob you of these precious moments."
Norman nodded in understanding. He thanked Emily, gave her a kiss, and rushed to Harry's room. Upon entering, he discovered that Harry was not in his bed. Panic set in until he heard soft sobbing coming from the closet. Opening the doors, he found Harry sitting on the floor, tears streaming down his face.
"Hey, what's wrong? Why are you here?" Norman asked gently, kneeling beside him. Harry sniffled, "I was having nightmares..."
"What kind of nightmares? About the boogeyman?"
"Yeah..."
"Why didn't you come to us?"
"Because you said I couldn't...so I tried to figure it out myself..."
Norman was overwhelmed with shame as he witnessed his son's tears, brought on by his thoughtless words. Reflecting on his past mistakes, he realized he was dangerously close to following in the footsteps of Ambrose, a father he never wanted to emulate. Fortunately, Norman recognized his error in time. "I'm sorry, I was wrong," he choked out, tears welling in his eyes. "Your mother and I are here to protect you, and I foolishly believed I knew best in this situation. Can you forgive me?"
"It's okay, Daddy. Please don't cry," Harry reassured him with a smile. Norman scooped his son into his arms and carried him to their room. "From now on, you can sleep with us for as long as you'd like. And if the boogeyman dares to bother you, I promise to banish it. You mean the world to me."
"Thanks, Daddy!"
As they entered the bedroom, Emily greeted them with open arms. "Hey, there comes my little prince!"
"Mommy! Daddy said he'll chase away the monster if it bothers us!" Harry exclaimed excitedly. "Really?" Emily replied, amused.
"I do," Norman gently laid Harry on the bed, and the boy nestled under his mother's arm while Norman settled in beside them.
"We have a true superhero in the family now, don't we, Harry?" Emily affectionately tousled her son's hair. "Yeah, Daddy's the best!" Harry beamed.
"Thank you both. Harry, did you know that I too was scared of the boogeyman when I was little?"
"Wow, you were??" Harry asked.
"Yes, but I didn't have anyone to push it away. You'll always have us. I'm still sorry for what I said before. I'll never belittle your feelings again," Norman smiled. Harry nodded and yawned, soon falling asleep.
"Well done, Mr. Osborn," Emily purred. "You're quite charming when you apologize."
"Oh really? Maybe we can put it to the test tomorrow when Harry is with your parents," Norman grinned back. He then looked at his sleeping son and smiled.
Nighty night, son. Love you.

Would you be willing to share your character sheets/episodic ideas for your imagined supersons series? If not totally fine! A supersons animation would be so amazing tho btw I agree! I wish Warner bros was still the titan of children’s animation like it was when I was younger 😞
@katekanemybeloved
Ooooooh, yes!! I would be very delighted to share them!!! (And also, yeah, I wish that DC would go back to making bomb superhero cartoons again too :( like their cartoons were a big part of my childhood, ESPECIALLY the og Teen Titans cartoon series, which was and still is my top favorite animated series because of how awesome it was and still is!!!✨✨✨✨)
So here are the ideas that I've been having for my imagined series for a while now:
Some episode ideas:
Damian unfortunately has to babysit his baby neice Mar'i (who is 2 years old) for a night, even though he already had something planned on that same night, which was an investigation that he had wanted to learn more about since no one is taking it seriously enough to do it but just him. But everyone else in the family was said to be pretty busy that same night with missions of their own and Dick and Kory were needed somewhere very urgent that very night, so they chose Damian to be in charge of taking care of her until they both came back, so it upsets him very much since it interrupts his original plans. He's not very close with Mar'i either and finds her kind of annoying since he's not usually around such young kids her age. So on this boring night, he gets the idea to take her with him on his investigation instead and brings Jon along with him too, since he had came over to visit and hang out with him while he was babysitting. And during this fun adventurous episode with Jon, Damian, and little Mar'i, Damian later begins to actually develop a stronger care for his little niece and begins to not get so annoyed with her so much and actually starts to enjoy being around her more.
Damian has to get braces for a short time after an accident involving his teeth had happened during a mission, and he has to now try to learn how to deal with them for the time being, since it involves a lot of work and also kind of embarrasses him since some of his brothers and the other heroes playfully make fun of him about having them, especially since it kind of messes with his speech a little, which doesn't help him at all when trying to be a tough hero who needs to be taken seriously.
Jon and Damian both get sent to a summer camp since Clark and Bruce as Father's both think that besides their kids living the superhero life, they should also be able to have the chance to live like actual kids once in a while too before they lose the chance to actually do so when they finally reach adulthood in life. Damian's bummed about it and tries to find a way to leave the place, Jon's not upset about the situation at all and thinks that it will actually be a very fun experience to have. Though, they both later find out that there's possibly a very strange and dangerous creature lurking around the campsite that might just have a very big appetite for kids their age. So the Supersons both try to secretly investigate this mystery together to prevent the possible danger coming to their classmates there and get to also experience some of the fun things about summer camp too while they do so.
One day Jon begins to learn about the new fact that while he does like girls, he also actually likes boys too and is actually a bit confused by this, and thankfully has support on his side from family and friends while going through this new discovery about himself.
Jon is always hiding the clutter in his bedroom away from Clark and Lois by always shoving it all in his clothes closet. Though, one day while he's hanging out with Damian in his room, they both decide to play a video game together, except the controllers are missing, so Jon goes to check in his closet to see if he had thrown them in there by mistake with the rest of his mess and actually finds a shocking surprise for himself after he does so. He finds a big mysterious deep black hole on the floor of his closet that was never there before and believes that it has sucked all of his clothes and mess into it self. Him and Damian both then accidentally get sucked into it too after looking a little too close at it and have to now figure a way back out into Jon's bedroom as they both also learn about this strange new dimension together.
Damian decides to use the Batmobile behind Bruce's back one day during a mission with Jon and accidentally crashes it too during a road chase in said mission, so now him and Jon both have try to hide it and get it fixed on time before Bruce finds out about it.
Baby Mar'i gets involved in another mission with the Supersons again, except the three of them end up swapping ages in this one, so she gets turned into a kid while Damian and Jon are both turned into 2 year olds by the bad guy in their mission. So the three of them have to figure out a way together to stop this bad guy who's on the run and get said bad guy to turn them back into their normal selves before the spell becomes permanent for them all
An earth 11 episode of genderbend Damian and Jon just for fun
A school dance episode where some fun chaos happens for Damian and Jon
And of course there would also be fun episodes for all holidays during each year too (Valentine's, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc)
There would also be a birthday episode for Jon too
There would also be villains and bad guys for them to face in a lot of episodes
I have many more ideas but then it would probably turn this into a really long post lol
Character sheets and designs!!:
(Be sure to click on them for better quality!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damian and Jon in their hero and civilian outfits (So you know how Star from Star vs the forces of evil changes her outfit in episodes sometimes? Well, that's what Damian and Jon would also be doing sometimes in episodes in their civilian outfits too, which explains why they have more then one lol)
A closer look at them
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Damian and Jon together
Tumblr media
And Mar'i in her little Nightstar dress and normal dress (the blue star on her normal dress is supposed to be a little nod to the blue on Dick's Nightwing suit, while the star is also a nod to Starfire)
(These are all of the ones that I have for now, cause I have the other characters sheets too but then I would have to digitalize them first)
Ships involved:
Dickkory (they would already be married to eachother during the whole series and would already have baby Mar'i)
Bbrae (they would be engaged to eachother for the first season and a half of the second one, which would give us a fun wedding episode when it's time for them to marry. They would then be married to eachother for the rest of the whole series after that, but they wouldn't have any kids yet though until the final season of the series)
Timber or Timkon, or maybe Timber first and then later Timkon (not in a rush though)
Probably Damijon (I would probably continue to keep them as best friends throughout the whole series or maybe turn them into a cute ship very much later on in the series, since they do have a very great dynamic and chemistry with eachother as characters and as best friends...and also because their my otp :| but idrk)
Voice ideas:
For my imagined series, I've also always imagined Kon having the exact same voice as Marco from the Star vs the forces of evil series, cause it's also just the type of voice that I can always hear him speaking in whenever I'm reading fics or comics with him in it for some reason
And for Jon it would be a voice that sounds energetic and friendly
And Damian's would sound like the mature type of voice but still sounding like a kid and with maybe a bit of an accent in it too
For the Titans, Dick, Starfire, Raven, Beast boy, and Cyborg, I would give them the same voice actors that they've had for the og animated series and the new reboot series (cause it just really wouldn't be the same without their talented voices!😭)
Little other things:
Damian would be 12 years old in the series while Jon is 10 1/2 years old, so they would both still be in middle school in the series
Tim and Kon would be 16 years old
While Jon and Damian may be eachothers very best friends, they also have their own little friend groups. For Jon's friend group, it's Kathy, Billy, and later also kid!Jay and for Damian's group, it's Maya, Colin, Maps, and Tai Pham (they would all also team up as a whole group together sometimes in episodes)
I'm thinking of maybe adding a very young Chris Kent as a young brother for Jon and Kon so that he could grow up with Jake Grayson as a best friend after he's born and then they could also become the young Starburst duo together in the future, or maybe just adding him in as their brother as planned and letting him be around Jon's age instead
While Blackfire and Starfire may have their differences with eachother and even though Blackfire might not always treat Starfire in a good way like how she should as a sister, she sure does love her adorable baby neice Mar'i a lot
Baby Lian exists and has play dates with Mar'i
And yes, Jon would still be taller than Damian in the series lol
Duke would be in the series too (cause he deserves more love) and would also be a Batkid in the Batfamily
I would give the series a very fun and cool memorable theme song while a very fun animated intro is showing off examples of what their awesome adventures together as the Supersons is like (like something similar to Star vs the forces of evil style) everytime before an episode actually begins
It would definitely be a fun comedic show with humor to laugh at all the time but it would also become serious at moments when it needs to be (like the og Teen Titans animated series for example)
It also wouldn't be a show that's aimed at adults like the mature Harley Quinn animated series and it also wouldn't be a little kiddies type of show either, it would actually be the type of show that anyone of any age can enjoy, like the many other kids cartoons out there like: the og Teen Titans animated series, Star vs the forces of evil, Gravity falls, Steven universe, and many more
Cool and fun action scenes would definitely be included in all episodes of the series everytime whenever they're fighting bad guys and villains
Thank you very very much for the ask, @katekanemybeloved ! :D I really enjoyed sharing this!💖

Prince Miguel
Tumblr media
The Crown Himbo, everybody (I swear Mariano is my best point of reference for Miguel but I cannot find a decent gif or image of him alone on this site fsuebdgjeyekhd- OH WELL)
So yeah, quite a bit to say about this new character. At first my plan was to just use one of the seven friends and make them the prince/princess, but as I developed the concept more I felt that none of them really fit. They won’t all be completely scrapped though. Dahlia will be kept in, and the others may have cameos, but otherwise they’re gone from the story. And now we have Miguel. He sort of balances out Asha and Earendel’s personalities in the beginning of the story, being the calmest and shyest of the trio.
Since Earendel has a different role now, I first came up with Miguel as a love interest for Asha. I decided to make him Manuel and Amaya’s son, and his character became a lot more fleshed out. He’s young man who’s very passionate about music, but due to his patents insistence on him learning magic instead, he doesn’t show that passion often. With how much Manuel and Amaya control him, he’s very reserved in general. Though around his friend Dahlia, he’s a bit more open. Being the son of THE villain power couple, a lot of his arc revolves around toxic and found family, which I’m very interested in developing. (Also I’m only just now realizing how similar he is to Miguel from Coco but let’s not worry about that-)
Tumblr media
Miguel’s design is heavily inspired by Mariano’s, like the concept art above. He’s a very expressive character and just has a lot of the same himbo energy that Miguel has. I also imagine he has clothes similar to the concept art below.
Tumblr media
Now for his backstory I cobbled together at 12 a.m.
Miguel was born to Manuel and Amaya only a few years after Manuel gained power, and was immediately put to magic lessons, despite his clear disinterest in it. (I thought about making him adopted instead, but I thought it would create a stronger arc if they were his biological parents, also Disney hasn’t made many if any biological parents THIS shitty so…)
As he grew older he found a passion for playing music, but his parents, especially Manuel, quickly snuffed it out. They told him it was a useless peasant’s wish and that he should focus on more important things.
One day met Dahlia in the kitchens as a pre-teen while he was hiding from his parents, and the two became quick friends. He talked a lot either her about things he couldn’t with many other people. Sometimes Dahlia would try and get him to talk about the king and queen, but Miguel avoided the topic as much as he possibly could. (As a side note, Dahlia isn’t a cook in this rewrite, just a regular servant)
When he turned eighteen, Manuel actually didn’t take Miguel’s wish, but he also wouldn’t grant it. This became Manuel’s main source of manipulation towards his son, threatening to take his wish away or worse if he set a foot out of line.
Now the whole trio is done, which means we’ll move onto the villains very soon. I’ll admit now that they aren’t too different from what most people have been doing, but I think it will be a nice refresher from all this new character stuff.
Thanks for reading! Stay tuned for more.

Greetings! I'm rereading your headcanons for the Arcana, and they're all very well-written and interesting. I wonder, do you have any ideas about how MC and Asra grew close and started a romantic relationship before the plague? No pressure if you don't feel like answering.
Hello!! I’m so glad you enjoy my headcanons :) even if I don’t write as much as I used to, I’m proud of my work. Based on your message, I wasn’t sure if you were asking for headcanons or just my thoughts, so I’m going with the latter, but feel free to submit another request if it was actually the first one!
So, as usual, I’m gonna add a little disclaimer stating that I haven’t played the game in a very long time, and can’t really remember what’s canon vs fanon, so forgive me if I say something that’s just blatantly wrong. Also, I’m referring to Asra using he/him just to differentiate them from the MC, who I’m referring to with they/them, and I am aware that Asra uses he/they.
Anyway, the game itself gives us very little to work with in terms of MC’s backstory with Asra (obviously so people can fill it in how they please), but I do believe that it’s canon that the shop used to belong to MC’s aunt?
In my mind, I always imagined that MC’s aunt was a semi-well-known magic user, and MC left their home to study with her and learn magic and such. They probably worked at the shop as well, since they lived there and it would be a bit rude not to help out.
Now, this is where I’m essentially just making things up: I believe that Asra and MC bumped into each other a lot without ever really having a proper introduction in the first few months. I’m not sure if there’s any indication about what Asra was doing after his parents disappeared, but I’m like 90% certain he was just homeless and making money by running errands or doing tricks/small spells/tarot readings for people. So, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to say that they casually saw each other around when MC was exploring or running errands for their aunt.
When it comes to a proper introduction, my mind is split between a cliché meet-cute where they literally run into each other, a curious MC seeking out Asra because they think he’s mysterious and therefore must find answers, or MC’s aunt hiring Asra as part-time help. Either way, it definitely starts as a casual friendship between two magic users who feel a little out of place, with Asra absolutely working at or spending a lot of time at the shop.
Over time, I think the two would naturally grow closer as they harness their magical abilities together. Asra has found a place that feels like home, and MC has found their first close friend in a new country. I think it would be a little co-dependent from the start, given Asra’s unfortunate circumstances, and MC becoming the owner of their aunt’s shop (it’s never confirmed, but personally I believe that the aunt died and left a young mc to take over).
At some point, after the aunt was gone, Asra would move into the shop (it’s practical, even if it’s only platonic, since he works there and MC is probably a little lonely), and while things might not be completely romantic, feelings are probably developing. I always imagined MC and Asra to be around the same age, so they’re probably young adults at this point, and still figuring things out, but they know that they want to be together in some way.
I don’t think there’s a clear line that can be drawn between “before” they loved each other romantically and “after”. Like, yeah, there’s a first kiss, but it doesn’t feel like a giant momentous moment, it’s just a casual action that feels completely natural. Neither of them probably even process it as the first time, and wouldn’t remember it later, because it just fits. And if you’re thinking about the first “I love you”, then I hate to disappoint, but I believe they always said it platonically, so neither really registers when it becomes romantic.
At least in my opinion, Asra and MC are the ultimate best friends to lovers, and it happens like a frog in a boiling pot of water. They don’t even realize that they’re in a committed relationship until MC dies and Asra finds them back at square one. Then he’s like “oh fuck how do I recreate 6 years when I don’t even know how it happened?” Falling in love and being with each other every day was as natural to them as breathing, and having that relationship stripped away suddenly must have felt like being dropped into ice water.
Anyway, those are my basic thoughts! Not very detailed, because, really, there is no canon backstory! This isn’t even what I use for my OC MC, it’s just the vibes I picked up when I first played through :) let me know what you think, and what you would change! Also please let me know if there are any mistakes, because I typed this all out on my phone at 1am and just kinda rambled without thinking

I have this theory and though it's not entirely popular within my system, let alone the plural community as a whole, I feel it's worth mentioning. Even if its not, this is my blog and I'll write whatever I please.
So last I'd heard the theory of structural dissociation hypothesizes that for DID to form there must've been some type of mental partitioning done at an early age, correct? I'm sure that's beyond oversimplified, but you get the gist. For my own system, I'm not sure how well that applies, or at least not in it's entirity. See, we'd gone through a substantially traumatizing situation that spanned roughly 3-4 years or so. During that time, we slowly discovered that we were a system, or more accurately the host at the time was eased into that knowledge one alter at a time.
Previously we'd assumed that we must've been plural much earlier than that and was just ignorant to this fact, but I believe it's possible the system as a whole "formed" during that highly traumatic period of time. Rather than there having been some covert functioning of alters throughout our childhood years, the framework for plurality was established early on but not utilized until a tipping point occurred. Once that shift happened, there doesn't seem to have been any going back, as if something mentally shattered and we haven't had the means (nor frankly the interest) in gluing it back together, hence the majority of my system preferring a goal of functional multiplicity rather than final fusion.
Now, there are some holes in that theory, such as hints of possible other alters who are not currently active having existed upwards of 4 years before our discovery date. My point more is that I believe it may be possible for the ability to develop DID/OSDD to form early in life but not properly manifest fully until much later, perhaps spurred on by some catalytic event(s), thus giving the appearance of a system forming later in life.
What would this matter in the grand scheme of things? I'm not sure. Not much, I'd imagine. It's not entirely something I could see being easily proven, but perhaps it would be useful for others to consider when trying to understand what brought about the circumstances they find themselves in now. As I've seen, many try to find these hints of plurality from their childhood in an attempt to make sense of their present existence and oftentimes they find there isn't any.
Rather than approaching the question with preconceived ideas of what is and isn't possible, we could view the psychology behind plurality as a more fluid theory that we, as a community, have the unique ability to share our own personal data towards fine tuning and advancing the greater understanding of this phenomenon/disorder.
From what I understand of my own system, we were somewhat concrete in our sense of self at a young age with a propensity for dissociative episodes when in distress. It's, of course, possible that the specific circumstances of our high-trauma period only served to break away the illusion of a singular self, I won't deny that. If nothing else, new alters formed during that time, myself included. I still believe there may be some merits to a theory such as early childhood distress/trauma, rather than forming a full-fledged system that simply hides itself well, may leave one weakened to the possibly of developing DID later in life.
Either way, I'm open to other theories and discussion on this. It's just a theory, after all. It'd be foolish to close the doors of possibility anytime a new theory crops up, otherwise we as a society may never give a chance to learn more.

I LOVE YOUR NEW CHURCHBOY!ANTON POST
I love the way you write so much, I think I've said it before but just a little reminder of how great you are 🙈
I was about to ask, does Anton usually wear a condom? I mean, he asked her if she wants a child so...
Also, I love the way you described it, I don't know if maybe you thought about it for this chapter, but I've seen sooo many cases of young church couples having children (and I mean pretty young, most of them 17/18), so my other question was, did you? Do you think they'll have a child still being young? I think their parents would be fuming if they did, but I don't think it would make Anton stop being a believer, omg, would their parents make them get married? Because that's what usually happens, I have so many questions for this story, I love it!!!!
hi anon! thanks for being so invested in understanding my faith lol i wrote it as a one-shot and didn't even think about all those things you mentioned. but now you bring it up you got me thinking hard.
in alot of relationships where religion is involved they don't use protection like their form of contraceptive is praying seriously LMFAO. also i kind of imagined both anton and the reader as kind of naive. the whole reason they started sleeping together in the first place was to get a closer relationship with god and understand what faith/worship is. when you really think about it, it's very childish and naive. what the two are actually doing is having unprotected sex under the guise of worshipping god. i see them as two young people who have no tact when it comes to the real world outside of church. they also kind of developed a type of relationship where they see the other as a god/holy figure so i imagine them not even thinking they could get pregnant, or if they did they wouldn't grasp the severity of the situation.
if she were to get pregnant oh their parents would be pissed. i'm not even sure how the parents would find out, maybe someone catches them doing something in the church and word spreads like wildfire. i imagined the readers parents to kind of mirror anton and the readers relationship. they were young couple in the church, the dad following the path of his family by being a bible thumper while the mom became the "nonbeliever" (i considered her to just be someone who wanted out of the oppressive nature of the church). i imagine they had the reader at a young age and got married because of it, eventually divorcing because of belief systems and just the overwhelming feelings the readers mom had in regards to the church.
i come from a town where that was the case alot of the times. teen marriages to cover up premarital sex in a very religious area. i think that anton's parents would sit down with both of them and give them a few choices. either get married and have the baby or get an abortion and never see eachother again. i can see anton's parents leaning very hard into the first choice. anton has a promising future and he can't ruin it by becoming a teen/young dad. i think it would make anton even more of a believer, thinking he's been blessed to be the father of the child. i can definitely see anton having a moment of defying his parents and getting married to the reader. he'd come to her in the dead of night, sneaking her out of her dad's house (because she's on lockdown after he finds out). anton would talk about doing whatever it takes to support his family, how his parents would eventually come around. the reader would nod her head and say okay, anton would take her back home and start planning out their future together.
but anton would be so heartbroken when the reader would leave town. that was something that also happened where i grew up, girls would get pregnant and then be shipped off to some distant relative. i can see her going back to live with her mom, learning about secular life and why her mother never reached out or fought against the court to get custody of her. anton's parents would be relieved you were gone but anton would become a recluse, completely withdrawing from life. he would definitely come to the readers father begging to know where she is. i can see anton writing letters, saying how much he misses her and how he's going to marry her in the future. i truly think the reader would end up having the child and waiting for anton because of the faith she still has in him.
see this is why i have to write one-shots because i'll end up writing a whole screenplay about my fics if i think too much about them. also a song that reminds me of understanding my faith is jackie and wilson by hozier that song is so them forrealllll

Meet Izzy and Nic: 1994 (OCs)
Tumblr media
Izzy and Nick share everything including a birthday and a bedroom, but not an outlook on life.  Growing up in Middleton, Wisconsin, they attend Komrey Middle School.  Isabella always looks just so, her desk is always tidy and her homework is always done.  However, her twin Nicolette, or Nic for short, seems to spend her afternoons and weekends running from one practice to the next.  In class, she doodles all the time and has to ask her sister about the lesson she’s missed.  Izzy seems to have it all together with her perfect outfits and clean desk but when life throws her a curve, she struggles to hit the ball.
Tumblr media
Last Halloween, when they were eight, Izzy and Nic wore matching black cat costumes but lately they haven’t been matching much.  Their mother, Christina, is disappointed but understands that they are developing their own tastes and identities.
Tumblr media
Izzy always seems to know what she wants and this year she wanted to be a medieval princess, so their mother has been working on her costume for weeks.  Nic can’t figure out what to be for Halloween but Izzy points out that she loves swimming in the lake and would make a great lake creature.  Nic uses her artistry and creativity and concocts the perfect outfit from items she finds in their father’s fishing boat, the garage and a discarded dress of her mother’s.  Nic worries that her costume will look unimpressive next to her twin’s, but Izzy is so enthusiastic about Nic’s creation that she proudly trick or treats through the neighborhood by her sister’s side.  When they get home, their Halloween buckets overflow with candy.
Tumblr media
Next Up: Things get more complicated when Izzy and Nic Learn a Lesson
a note on this project:  I came into these early AGOTs over several years as well as their outfit collection.  When I set out to create this story line, I was pondering the question of whether or not AG would use any of the early AGOT items in the new line.  If so, what would it look like?  It’s an interesting conundrum: if AG will be true to their own past or go for something differently nostalgic.  As an experiment in play, I stuck with what I had with just a few purchases to complete outfits and diy’d a few items as well, as I imagine a young me would do.  A few promises - the leaked part of the story of the twins Jewish heritage will be explored as well as complex and impactful current events from the time.  I have the six book story arc descriptions completed and so excited to share it with you :)

So hypothetical for the Witcher au if the trio somehow ended up as Witcher’s together same school and everything how long did it take them to become the lovable menaces they are?
Hrm. Their styles would vary widely, I originally imagined peach in the school of the bear, grey would fit too, but plum couldn’t keep up with that. I guess snake isn’t terrible, plenty of variation.
The girls were ostracised immediately. Peach was dumped there and plums family paid to keep her there, out of their hair. Because they were the only girls they were often stuck together and it made them both angry. They wanted to be treated like everyone else, but instead were pushed harder and mocked for even being there.
Their training though fierce was led by a Witcher in training a few years older than them, Grey, a young boy with a good heart volunteered to help them when no one else would. He swiftly put them both on their asses, expecting neither to get back up fast, but they both did. Unrelentingly stubborn, he found their tenacity infectious, and wildly appealing. Eventually in groups with other youngsters grey was chemically altered to be a proper full fledged Witcher and started taking jobs, leaving the girls alone to train. Their competitive natures led them to slowly learn to get along, finding respect in the others skills, peach grew strong and defensive, while plum grew fast and tactical. Both made great steps with signs, peach excelled with the herbal aspect making tonics and such, while plum boasted ridiculous knowledge of recorded creatures and how to fell, use and manipulate them. They were surprising the others in their school, surviving is one thing, excelling a totally different story.
They garnered enough praise that the other teachers would start to lead them, each finding weapons to suit, adapting to fit their styles, and reconnecting with grey whenever he returned from beyond the walls of their home, demanding all the stories and information. Their midnight laughs and tall tales were what brought them together, he however was privy to some information he withheld from the girls. plum was smaller and far less durable, she would undergo the same Witcher creating process as the boys, a very…sketchy survival rate, a good percentage didn’t pull through. Peach however was far more thick skinned, seemed to possess an unusually high tolerance for some of the more dangerous poisons and potions in the schools labs, and thus the higher ups wanted to test a new method on her. Witchers we’re hard to make, if the new method worked better they could ensure their survival perhaps.
Grey sat on this information for a few days, sparring with them, noticing just how quickly they’d both developed their skills, no wonder the leaders wanted to get on with their turning process. Finally over dinner he mentioned it, both girl falling quiet. It was what they’d trained for but they knew the risks. He didn’t mention peach’s unusual new process, figured she’d find out when they came to get her.
Thing is they never warned peach at all, she expected a horrific process that would either kill her or make her stronger. The girls had a quiet moment waiting to be called for, they shared a room, both just sat there in the quiet. Plum was nervously tapping her foot, wringing her hands. A small kindness, feeling her class mate, the bigger girl opposite her come across and sit beside her on the bed. Didn’t say anything, just took her hand and held it. They waited there like that until someone came to get them.
Didn’t question why peach didn’t go into the same room as plum and the others.
Grey sat up all night. Couldn’t sleep a wink, kept hearing horrifying cries in the depths of their home, the many kids being pumped full of mutagens and tonics. His change was not a good memory, he could only hope his friends would survive.
Plum pulled through much to everyone’s surprise, it was her and two other boys out of two dozen that actually got through it. Some whispered that it was a shame she made it and not one of the others. A murmur that hurt to hear, but she was use to being the one no one wanted around. Even peach was strong enough to overtake most of the boys, and they respected that she took a hit same as they did. Plum eventually emerged, a sight for sore eyes, Grey ran to her, big arms bundling her up, grinning, he was so worried. It was a huge relief, but the elephant in the room was painfully evident. No peach, not anywhere.
A whole month passed. Every night plum returned to her empty room and looked at the bed her friend use to use. Grey asked, and pestered and bothered his teachers, asked where she was, why she’d not been listed in with the dead, why he couldn’t pay respects to her body, where even was it? Not a single adult could say anything, exchanging nervous glances and dodging the subject. Sometimes he swore at night when he’d wander down to get water, he’d hear her, a very distant choked cry, swore it was her.
Then one day she shows up. Like a ghost, peach returns. Plums chair falls back she gets up so fast, grey vaults the table, they’re with her the second she enters the great hall, several others noticing the commotion. Peach is drained, visibly smaller, dark circles under her eyes like someone who’d been pulled back from the dead, hair faded in colour, and yet, to see her friends was all that mattered. she would lie in a bed in searing agony and wish to just sit beside them, if not that, then the relief of death finally. Grey asked what happened, plum prying, helping her to a table to sit. The sight of them both well however was overwhelming, peach just broke down and cried, something no one had ever seen her do. Plum had heard her in the dark of their room some nights, but never seen it, not like this.
They left their questions aside, comforted her, got a meal in the woman, tried to slowly get answers. It was plum sneaking around in the shadows at night, stealthiness used to get sweet treats from the kitchens unnoticed, that she overheard some of the older witchers.
Peach had been a subject in their tests. She had been killed a dozen times, and brought back, in order to strengthen the Witcher powers, and speed up the process. It however took way longer than originally thought, this was the first human test, and it went wrong. Peach suffered for 5 weeks, in and out of living, of consciousness. No wonder she looked like she did. Their conclusion? No one should be subject to that process again. What they did, even by Witcher standards, was too cruel. Plum went back to her room, her friend in her bed, sleeping lightly, sick to her stomach about what she’d learnt, paused at the edge of the room with an intense need to do something about it.
Plum instead of getting in her own bed, put her hand on peach’s shoulder, startling her awake, turning in the dark to see the reflective eyes looking up at her. Pushed her to move over, which she did, and got in behind her friend, wrapped her up in a hug, so angry at the situation. Peach had no idea what was going on, just felt this little woman behind her holding so tight. It was…weird, sure, but plum obviously needed this? So she said nothing, went back to sleep.
Plum told grey everything in secret, they watched peach train and saw despite her withered state she was still fiercely determined. Right back to sword practice without hesitation to rest up more than a day. They swore to not tell her, she didn’t need to know, all that mattered was that she survived. They helped her regain what she lost, the once weak bodied woman regained her muscle mass and then some, started to overtake others in terms of skill, started to laugh and joke again. Before long she was her old self, and the three of them travelled together to take on jobs throughout the kingdom. The secret still remains with grey and plum. Peach hit her stride, all that they wanted to do was be together and find exciting new things to enjoy in life. They have however found it very unusual that they’ve never seen peach go full Witcher, the black eyes, the toxin riddled body. She’ll neck tonics and they don’t seem to poison her even half as much, and her durability is insane, no one should have that much stamina. Whatever was done to her certainly made her stronger, but at what cost.

Here’s the rest of @mstormcloud’s question!
Tumblr media
Great question! I haven’t played either of the Four Swords games, but it is very distinctly different for Twi and the Soul Sword.
The Soul Sword is meant to represent the wielder’s soul, but also strengthen it. The Sword itself threw Twi into several challenges in order to strengthen him and his spirit. Some of the challenges it gave him were, quite literally, impossible, but it didn’t matter, since the point was to show him to never give up, even against impossible odds.
The whole Soul Sword adventure is meant to be about Twilight maturing from the cringe tween he’d been at first, to the strong, reliable young man he becomes.
This part is, admittedly, less developed than some of the others, but I like to imagine that as Twi matures through his adventures, his own wolf form represents that.
The first time the shift occurs, it’s awkward. He’s a scruffy wolf pup. His proportions are uneven, his paws too big and his body too skinny.
The next time he uses it, the shift is more accurate. He’s older, though still awkward and silly looking. The color of his fur is more natural and more patterned (rather than the random tufts of various colors). Throughout his second adventure, it begins to grow out, patterns become more distinct, and his form reflects the maturity and experience he’s beginning to possess.
By the time his third adventure rolls around, he looks much like the Wolfie we know and love, if a bit smaller. By the end of his third adventure, he has a mastery over it and is able to control how his shifted form looks (to a certain degree).
Midna has her own character arc that takes place alongside Twi’s, and I imagine she’d even go on her own adventure at some point.
She’s present for Twi’s first adventure when they’re forced to work together. Twi is being thrust into a situation he doesn’t fully understand, not to mention he’s an awkward tween whose best friend is a horse. Midna is forced to rely on this loser, and neither of them are happy about it. She’s bossy, she’s rude, and she takes her distaste about the situation out on him because he’s the only target she has.
Midna wants to be more than she is, and her arc starts off looking rather similar to Vaati in some ways. She wants power too, but while Vaati is fascinated with evil, Midna wants to help her people and discover what can be done if only she weren’t a tiny minish.
Over the course of her and Twilight’s first adventure, the two become friends. They learn to work together after first spending a lot of time arguing and butting heads. They become companions, and by the time they fight Vaati, they’re working together like two parts of a matched set.
After that, Midna has matured in some ways, like her companion, but both of them are still young. She’s eager to go off and do her own thing, but still finds a friend in Twi and visits relatively often. Where he is eager to settle back into his normal life, she’s looking for adventure.
During Twi’s second adventure, where he wields the Soul Sword and jumps through all the hoops it faces him with, Midna is not there to join him. She’s off doing her own thing, on her own adventure. What exactly happens on this adventure I’m not sure, but by the end of it she’s searching more for contentment and happiness than novelty and adventure (and she happens to find a lot of the first two with a certain Hylian companion of hers).
The third adventure they do together, at least some of it. This is where Midna willingly acts as a companion to him like they did together at first, and they have to rediscover how to work together with their new maturity, new skills, and things like that. They’re older now too, and maybe there’s some romance starting to brew by this point (but I don’t know the plot of any four sword game well enough to say for certain where, when, or how this would go exactly).
By the time LU begins, both have settled somewhat and are in an established relationship (established to each other, at least, it’s not like many folks know about Midna after all). They work very well together, but that doesn’t mean they don’t clash at all. It mostly means that they know what to do and how to handle it when they do clash.
Midna knows how to bring out Twi’s more daring side, and he knows that it’s fun to oblige her sometimes. Twi, meanwhile, knows how to settle Midna and help her relax, and she knows that sometimes it’s good to rest for a bit even if she has things she wants to do. They’re a good pair, though Midna can get irritable sometimes since he doesn’t feel he can acknowledge her around the others (at least not until her reveal).

This all started with me explaining how Buck's relationship with physical affection/tactility isn't what some think it is. He's not like Eddie, who actively uses it as a love language.
If we look back at the Buckley household and upbringing, we can actually see which love language is prominent for each member and how it developed.
In case you don't remember, the third Buckley sibling, Daniel, got diagnosed with leukemia around age 5. They tried treatment but it was ineffective, Daniel needing a bone marrow transplant. None of the existing Buckley's were a match, so the parents decided to create one.
By age 7, baby Buck was born and he was a match, but it didn't graft. Daniel ended up passing a year later. With a living reminder of their lost child and the shame having Buck got them from their social groups ("forcing" them to move away), it's easy to imagine the disconnect and (probable) resentment they had for him.
Tumblr media
Maddie said they were different before everything happened and that's true. Maddie is obviously familiar with how to comfort someone physically.
But Buck is another thing that can die on them. And that's scary. As much as they tried to block a deep attachment from forming (successful for the most part), seeing Buck injured triggered that same response they had for Daniel and Maddie. They wanted to shelter and protect him, but their "failure" to protect Daniel poisoned the thought. So, they retreated mentally and emotionally to protect themselves.
That created the rift between parents and children. Buck and Maddie weren't the only ones with an "us against them" mentality.
Tumblr media
They show physical affection and comfort to each other. Mirror each other's protective habits (crossing their arms over their chest). Go to therapy together to discuss their worries. All the things they didn't extend towards their children because it was about them, now. Not Maddie or Buck.
Even examining their outbursts, it always goes back to one of two things. Buck should know life is fragile! Maddie doesn't know how it feels to lose a child! How could Buck ask them to sit and watch while their child was in the hospital? Their childish tantrums (literal children) never made it easy! It always goes back to Daniel or them. Not their living children.
Buck was right. They gave up on them. And he never knew why.
Not knowing led him to do whatever it took to get their attention. And if Buck being injured dragged at least the bare minimum of their love languages out of them, he'd do it.
Phillip was shown to lean towards gift giving, buying Buck a new bike, ice cream, pizza.
Margaret was the physically affectionate one with her children. She moved to embrace Buck before she realized whose bike they were using. When he's bedbound with a broken arm, she taps his leg gently.
Tumblr media
The act grew old after a couple years and you can see Buck's resentment in his speech and demeanor towards them. It's not just teenage rebellion that leads him to say, "they suck." They do. With Maddie and Buck growing up in that environment, it pretty much stunted their emotional connections with physical touch.
Again, Maddie had her parents' and Daniel's physical love while he was alive. She has some experience with it ingrained in her. And what Buck has, he learned from her. However, I believe much of that physicality morphed into another language when she became a primary caregiver to Buck.
Maddie tended to his wounds, bathed him as a baby, defended him, and made pinky promises. (A sincere, yet kidish gesture that was probably taught to her by Daniel.)
Basically, physical touch wasn't just about affection anymore. It became an act of service. She gave everything she could to Buck because she knew exactly why they treated him like they did, even if she had to keep it a secret. And she never resented him for it. She loves Buck, and she showed him that through act of care.
Maddie was still young, though, going through her own issues. Not understanding the possessiveness of Doug because, after years of their parents' neglect, she thought that's what love looked like. Doug broke her away from her family, from Buck, as a way to control her, but she wanted to escape her parents, so she thought it was fine. Whatever red flags she saw were the simple complexities of marriage. (At least that's what she told other people.)
Tumblr media
Doug especially clawed into her relationship with physicality. The way he threatened, dragged, and beat her was beyond cruel. It would be understandable if she never felt comfortable giving or receiving physical affection again.
Still, her love language wasn't completely gone. Buck, her baby brother, always managed to bring it back out of her.
Tumblr media
After roughly a decade and a half with Doug, the last three with zero contact with Buck (except Christmas cards), she was able to jump back into her special blend of physical affection and acts of service. (With some road bumps here and there. She was still suffering some PTSD after she left : the Christmas tree debacle, the broken glass flashback, the stalking incident where she tried to save a DV victim.)
But in LA, with Buck, she was finally able to get away from Doug and actually meet people outside of her workspace. To make friends and extend her family. To find real love in many different shapes and forms. And, she got to love Buck again, just like before.
Buck loves her, too.
Like I said, Buck learned his major love language from watching Maddie. He finds ways to show people he cares about them through (you already know this) acts of service.
This is especially prevalent when faced with the source of their grievance, their parents. They approach them as a "united front" and promise to have each other's backs.
Which they do. Maddie comforts Buck with a gentle hand on his arm after he was visibly stressed just seconds before he greeted his parents with a (fake) smile. Buck consistently defends Maddie from his parents' backhanded commentary. At one point he even blends a little physical affection in there like she does, just to push the point he's making. He slaps Chim's leg to emphasize he is the good man Maddie has found to have a child with. That he is proud and happy for them both.
After moving past the revelations, the betrayal, and the blame, Maddie finally feels fully connected to Buck again and clings to him.
Before I go on about acts of service, there's an important (maybe the most important) thing I need to point out about Buck and physical touch.
Tumblr media
I've said before that Buck absolutely adores physical affection, especially in group settings. Gathering around a laptop to tease Bobby about his dating profile. Winding his arms around his team in a giant group hug.
These people are his family. He loves them. And when they participate in close contact activities like these, he knows he's welcome. Explicit consent isn't exactly needed, it's implied by the gathering itself. (To think what would happen if he was ever rejected from a group hug. The agony. Also don't think about the metaphorical implication of this when Bobby wouldn't let him come back to work and even covered his name plate with "Bosko" instead. Food for thought.)
It's when physical affection turns to physical comfort that things change. He doesn't really respond, almost ever. And that's probably due to his parents. (Shocker.)
Tumblr media
These screenshots are all from Buck Begins and What's Your Grievance, the introduction, background, and conclusion (hopefully) to the Buckley parents within the show. (Can't stand them.)
They actually make direct parallels between Buck's parents and Buck's chosen parental figures, Athena and Bobby.
We see Bobby's very first interaction with Buck where he affectionately welcomes Buck to the 118, putting a hand on his shoulder, and Buck is ecstatic. This is compared to his father's greeting of a quick pat on the shoulder, which Buck returns with a (fake) smile. He already knows there's no love behind this touch, so it is hardly considered affection.
Arguably, all of the physical touches after the fire (panels 4,5,6,9, and 10) evoke about the same response from him : Nothing. Because these are physical comforts centered around Buck, where he is the focus and in some form of mental distress. Basically, he's not the one giving the comfort (where he can also take comfort in the relief of having the person close), he's receiving it. It's just about him.
There wasn't enough comfort in his youth to build an emotional tie to these gestures. (Again, rare from his parents and Maddie's touches were affectionate or perceived as service.) Which is why he doesn't typically seek them out.
Instead, it's the words of affirmation that differentiate these interactions. That actually affect Buck.
Compare his conversation with Athena to the one with his mother while he struggles to understand who he is. Athena moves in, pats his knee, and tells him he is someone who never gives up. Margaret holds his hands and tells him he was born to save people.
These are clearly two very different perspectives of him. One is by a woman who didn't even like him at first, but saw him grow and mature. She grew to respect and love the man he is now. The other woman is essentially a stranger with context. They're barely in each other's lives and hold no positive baggage. It might be unfair, but it sounds like she's asking forgiveness by justifying her actions as some fated reason to his existence.
Finally, it circles back to acts of service. After everything they went through as kids, Buck breaks and finally tells them exactly what he expected from them. What he needed them to do all along. To love him anyways.
When he messed up, when he was stubborn and frustrating, exhausting, he needed them to love him anyways. Could they please do this for him.
Well, he never had to ask that of the 118.
Yes, he's messed up. Yes, he's needed more chances to prove himself. But he doesn't ask for forgiveness or love. They just give it to him anyways.
Even when he goes against orders (again) and gets caught alone in an impossible situation, his family runs in to help him. They don't scream and berate him for being reckless, they take care of him and make sure he's alright. They love him. And he's never had to ask them to.
To summarize the physicality of it, this is Buck:
Tumblr media
If it seems a little complex, that's because Buck went from a low physical environment to a high physical environment, and he's comfortable in the way he navigates it, so it's stayed this way for the most part(<- Christopher post) even after all these years.
What is shifting and actively being challenged is his relationship with acts of service.
Tumblr media
Buck saw himself as lost in life. He knew he had a "purpose", a service he could provide to tell him he's worth something, but he didn't know what yet. When Maddie pushed all of her love onto him and gave him her jeep so he could escape, he extended that service right back to her, telling her to come with him.
Her rejection (that he didn't know Doug violently influenced) hurt him, but he still kept in contact with her through post cards. He went through a number of service jobs from working in construction, on a ranch, in a bar, even trying to join the Navy Seals at one point. None of them gave him the fulfillment he was searching for. Until he joined the 118.
Even after three years of radio silence, Buck convinced Maddie to stay with him in LA, offering his home where he could keep her safe. He helped her move into her own apartment when she decided she needed her own place, to stand on her own feet.
They were the first people to truly have the other's back, and that relationship has withstood everything. It's when they apply those services to other relationships that they struggle.
A prominent example being how Buck approaches helping his family in 3x10 vs 5x05.
In 3x10, the year has been rough and they're all set to work Christmas day. As much as they'd like to be with their families, they have a job that needs to be done. Buck works with Athena to get everyone to the station for a giant surprise celebration. And it works. Christmas is saved.
Now, in 5x05, Buck is putting a lot of unnecessary blame onto himself for several things that were simply out of his control. He sees himself as a key cause in the breaking of the 118 and decides he should transfer. His mind processes this as "let me do this for you," to help his family, even if it costs him one of his greatest joys in life. Thankfully, they talk him out of it.
Maddie does this, too, in 5x03 by leaving Jee in order to protect her. Their services are wonderful and bright until they believe they are the issue. And with the self esteem their parents instilled in them, negative outcomes were bound to happen.
To focus on Buck, he's been shown struggling with his love language throughout the show. There is a consistent battle of him trying to balance the selfless act of serving others and the selfish love he takes from doing it.
Tumblr media
He finds purpose in being a firefighter, but needs to find the line where he knows he matters outside of the uniform. He loves helping people, but in fighting for that right, he hurts the family around him. He's been accused of "making everything about him" multiple times. And yes, he absolutely relates in these situations, but he's also genuinely trying to help and understand the person he's talking about.
And the reason why he's struggling is actually pretty simple. Buck didn't have people he cared about before. Other than Maddie, of course.
He went from his parents' house to running all over the country, not exactly setting down roots and building relationships. By the time he's at the 118, he's having a string of flings, getting fired, then not fired, taking responsibility for his actions, and that's all just in the first episode. (Ah, season 1. Such a strange place.)
Basically, he's growing into it. Learning how to extend his service beyond Maddie and strangers. It works well so often, of course he's not gonna have a ton of practice on how to sense something might go wrong, or know what to do when it does. And every relationship offers a different dynamic, so he has to learn to navigate that as well. It just takes time. And learning from mistakes, which he does.
Same with Maddie, being free from Doug and moving to a city with so many new people to interact with. Things were bound to change along the way.
TLDR : Maddie and Buck's relationship with their major love language, acts of service, has evolved over time, and will likely keep evolving as they're challenged by new situations in the future.
I don't speak about any of these characters in absolutes because new experiences can and have shifted their dynamics already. People are not set in stone. And I would cry happy tears to see all 911 characters experience love in every positive shape and form.

Day 69a: Saturday March 9, 2024 - "Vi-Lee's Third Birthday"
This post contributed by Audrie after we went to Jess' house for Vi Lee's Birthday party
Wild to process that three full years have now come to pass between the birth of this child and this day. I remember it all well, as I was watching with learning eyes; my long time best friend journeying through pregnancy, labor and birth and into and through the multitude of layers of motherhood just about 12 weeks ahead of my own expedition. Witnessing the beauty in the birth of a mother through this lens — knowing that what was unfolding for her was on deck for me —helped me beyond measure; it has been a bit like owning a crystal ball, giving glimpses of my own future, albeit hazy and unclear, lighting the way to some generalized knowing’s of what is likely to come. Jess and I had this fantasy idea when we were both tracking our first pregnancies a trimester apart from one another about having  this picturesque new life along side one another with our littles in tow and a thriving friendship with frequent visits and support and face to face camaraderie… our reality after the tiny humans arrived was far from this dream. As visits and play dates and coordination of get togethers were far less frequent and far less bountiful than we imagined. And when we did manage to sync our children’s and personal schedules up, we found face to face visits often rushed, and hectic chasing babies, changing diapers, and being generally exhausted and scatter-brained mamas. But if anyone understood me the most and made my motherhood madness more normalized and feel welcome, it was and still is her. And watching Jess and listening to her about this Journey with Vi Lee —on the development scorecards, on the work/life balance, on the edges of the fray and in the depths of the mixture of gratitude, love, and exhaustion that embodies the life of committed mothers, I’m always in awe and learning from her experiences and actions.
Vi Lee is a brilliant, beyond articulate, sassy, sweet, silly, sturdy young child now. Her bright mind is equally balanced by her strong physical presence. She is stubborn, she is witty, she is playful, and she is generous with her sweet nature. All a reflection of her well rounded parents and their parenting. It’s glorious watching nature and nurture unfold in these little miracles.
And now, with the birth of this second, I get to peer a bit more into that personal crystal ball of mine — watching with learning and curious eyes how Jess again seems to make seamless the transition into being mother of two. Aiven Lane is just two weeks old now as Vi Lee turns three. There were so many magical moments I’ll take with me in my heart and memory from today; William prancing with the older girls in his green dragon wings, the flutter of my heart when William was examining the baby for the first time so tenderly and sweet, Vi Lee bounding from the bounce house to the cake and kicking off her own birthday song, Parker wider blue eyes than ever and more outgoing but still soft spoken in the shadow of her graceful also pregnant mother.
When Jess and I talk later about the day she will recall a blur of butterfly cake baking and broken conversations between adults and toddlers and presents and birthday candles and songs and tattoos and nursing baby snuggles.
The whole of the day was beautiful, and the quiet time driving across town with Jake and W and I in the car, my husband’s hand on mine and smiles and sunshine and blue bird AZ spring time weather filling me up with all the feels of new life, new possibilities and big things to soon come.
Song: Generation X - Dancing With Myself
Quote: "Because we don’t know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that’s so deeply a part of your being that you can’t even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless." ~Paul Bowles

Are we going to think about the implications of most of the shoppers in Black Friday being parents, presumably of fairly young children?
I don’t believe a nuclear bomb was dropped on Hatchetfield at the end. It makes no sense for Russia to target a random small town on an island instead of an actually important (to the mundane world) place. I generally don’t like the accidental nuking of Moscow and WWIII breaking out, because it kinda makes all the characters’ development and accomplishments feel wasted if Wiggly still in a way succeeds in bringing Earth and humanity to ruin, but I digress. The town is not destroyed.
Which gives the ending much more weight to me. It means that everyone has to live with the consequences of their actions. Or… not live, as it were.
Imagine you’re one of the rioters who got a Wiggly and ran, which many did, hence the cult hunting down the last one left in the building. That means we’re talking about 849 people. Imagine triumphantly opening your front door, finally crossing the threshold into the safety of your home with your precious cargo, your beloved child’s dream toy. Except your child never even wanted it. You were so swept up in your desire to make Christmas perfect that you never even bothered to ask them before putting so much time aside to get ahead in that line, time you could have done so much more with. What kind of a parent are you? The adrenaline crashes and the spell breaks and the realization hits you like a hammer to the teeth: it was all for nothing. You’re exhausted and injured. You attacked your fellow human beings like a starving animal. For those moments, you genuinely did not care if anyone else was okay. All your morals just - evaporated. And it was all utterly, miserably pointless. You can lie, downplay it, put all the blame on mob mentality and your sleep deprivation, but you can’t forget. You can never forget.
Imagine you’re one of those rioters' partners or friends, shaken to learn that someone so close to you, who you love and trust and have always believed to be a good person, could be capable of such callousness and violence over something so arbitrary. Imagine the questions that raises. What if they hurt someone again? What if they hurt me? Or, if they themselves aren’t any more evil than I thought… if I’d waited outside that store all night or longer, would I have snapped like that? What damage could I inflict in the right circumstances? I’m a good person, aren’t I? Is every good person just a bad person waiting to happen?
Imagine you’re one of the kids, having to go on knowing your parent, your hero, drew blood in your name. Imagine hearing about the riots on the news and the spike of terror as it registers that your parent could die at any moment, bruised and trampled on a cold floor. And you wouldn’t be there. They come home at last and you rush into their arms. But far from relieved, their eyes are haunted; they’ve stared into hell and seen their reflection.
Imagine you’re one of the kids, waiting for your dad to come home. Things have been rough since he lost his job when the plant closed, and he’s been really stressed and to be honest so have you, but at least you’ll still spend Christmas together, right? Right?
