If anything, Zelda seemed to be growing quieter and more withdrawn by the day.
At first, she had gleefully donned the mantle of diplomat, charming the Goron and Zora with years of practiced diplomacy. Her rambling, disjointed speeches on Hyrule’s reconstruction grew less animated and more insistent as time passed. As though she were convincing herself as much as Link that her scheme to reunite the fractured land post-Calamity would succeed.
There was a kind of quiet desperation to the way Zelda spoke that made Link a little uneasy. When pressed she would laugh, brush him off, and busy herself with her journal or a book she borrowed from Purah. Trying to reach her when she had so clearly withdrawn was like chopping the Deku Tree down with a butter knife. At least that would yield some progress; the more he pushed at Zelda, the more withdrawn, deflective, and forcibly cheerful she seemed to get.
In some ways, Zelda was like a great oak tree; immovable and unbreakable until it very suddenly was not.
ao3
“Tarrey Town?” Zelda asked, brow knitting in confusion. “I don’t seem to recall a town like that anywhere in my records.”
<It’s new,> Link signed with a small smirk. <Helped put it up myself.>
“You?” Zelda’s brows nearly cleared her browline. Link’s journey outside the Calamity’s influence came to her in fits and bursts; usually flashes of combat or lonely nights spent staring out over Hyrule’s expanse. The fact that he had a life in the few months he had spent taking down the Calamity’s forces was known to her...she just didn’t think he had time to erect an entire town.
<When I came back...I had to get stronger,> Link said, tapping the Master Sword with his fingertips. <She didn’t want me at first...I had to prove myself to her again. Trained with Hudson; hauling lumber and stuff.>
“Efficient,” Zelda said, privately cursing the fact that she had missed snippets of Link working out. “I didn’t think people were constructing new settlements after the Calamity.”
Link shrugged. < At some point, I think they had to move on.>
“Mm,” Zelda said non-committedly, polishing off the last of her riceball and dusting her hands on her pants. “Well, I suppose that’s…that’s comforting then.”
Link frowned, raising his hands as Zelda fished the Sheikah Slate out. “Alright, which shrine gets us closest?”
__
It would have been faster to fly, but Zelda still hadn’t gotten used to diving off cliffs with only a flimsy piece of fabric to protect her from smashing against the ground. So the walk to Tarry Town gave her plenty of time to see what the people of Hyrule had done without her.
Around the edge of the island where the center of town had sprung up, the bare-bones structure of houses and farms were under construction, people coming and going with supplies or weaponry to fend off any oncoming attacks. A ring of stones on the valley floor created what looked to be the foundation for a wall that would one day rise to circle their growing town. As they grew closer, Zelda’s hands eventually found their way to his arm, gripping on to him for support or comfort as they made their way down the path towards the city.
A city .
Zelda had pictured a few ramshackle buildings; the beginnings of civilization, not civilization itself. She had thought she could be of help getting the town up on its feet only to see it standing high above her, casting a cold shadow on her as they passed under the rock formation.
“Did the local governor permit this?” Zelda asked before she realized the absurdity of her statement. Lady Seres and her family had all likely perished in the Calamity; the place where their stately manor once stood swept clean by the passage of time. The concept of property, policy, and propriety seemed somehow absurd in a world where everything had gone to hell; as though titles meant anything after Ganon struck.
<Do they need to fill out paperwork?> Link asked with a teasing smile; a question that sent chills running down her back to pool in the pit of her stomach. Zelda stopped in her tracks, arm tugging free of Link’s grip as they approached a small crowd of workers milling around a pile of lumber. Her eyes were wide, breath coming in short bursts as she took a step backwards.
“I’m...I’m sorry, I think-” Zelda swallowed, shaking her head as she noticed the clear concern on Link’s face. “Sorry, just needed to catch my breath.”
Link’s frown only deepened, taking a step closer to her as a familiar looking Gerudo woman approached them, hand resting on a clearly pregnant stomach.
“”Hoy!” Rhondson called, waving them over with a smile. “We hoped you were coming!”
Rhondson’s eyes drifted from Link to the strange Hylian vai that somehow looked like she was torn between introducing herself and running like a startled doe.
“Your friend?” Rhondson asked, raising an eyebrow as Link shook his head.
“Um...n-not exactly…” Link said, voice strained and quiet from disuse as he glanced at Zelda.
“Zelda,” Zelda said bluntly, smile plastering across most of her face and stepping past Link who didn’t fail to notice the lack of Princess on the front of her name. “I’ve, uh...heard about your settlement from Link and I wanted to see it for myself.”
Link’s stony silence did nothing to mask the suspicion and confusion in his eyes as she saddled up alongside him, gripping on to his arm as Rhondson sent Link a teasing smile.
“Well, a lot has happened since you were last here, Mr. Hero,” Rhondson said, leading them through a ramshackle construction site as Zelda took everything in quietly, eyes flickering over the faces of Hylian, Goron, and even a few Gerudo workers. “We had to relax the naming convention a little; Hudson finally relented after we reminded him there wasn’t enough people named like us in the world. I think part of him was hoping you’d put roots down here one day as well.”
Link glanced at Zelda, clearing his throat as she took the lead. Link despised using his voice unless absolutely necessary; his silent method of communication spoken only by Zora and only then underwater.
“Do you have plans to expand much further?” Zelda asked, following Rhondson across the bridge into the center of town proper. “It’s only that...well, with Castle Town free of the Calamity, I would think building there would be easier, wouldn’t it?”
“Even if the Demon King is gone,” Rhondson said, spitting as most Gerudo did when mentioning the Calamity. “The land he held for over a hundred years is bound to be stuffed with curses by now. I wouldn’t birth my girl there if you drowned me in Rupees. Not to mention those creepy statue things are still over there.”
“Freed from the Calamity’s influence,” Zelda said, coughing as Rhondson turned to look at her. “I’m sure...so I’ve heard.”
“Not taking that chance,” Rhondson said with a shake of her head. “No point in trying to resurrect an old town full of ghosts and bad memories; best to leave the past buried with the old royals that lived there.”
LInk glanced at Zelda out of the corner of his eye, waiting for her to say something. But where he was willfully silent, Zelda seemed to have been deserted by any argument she wanted to make, mouth hanging open and eyes glazed over as Rhondson steered them around town. The more they saw, the more unsettled Zelda seemed to become, breath coming in slow, deliberate breaths that seemed to be forestalling something awful.
He turned his back for a split second, and she was gone, a flash of light on the hill overlooking the town catching his eye.
__
He found her bunched under a tree overlooking the valley, knees pulled up to her chest and back pressed against the rough bark as red-rimmed eyes stared mournfully out in front of her. Wordlessly, he approached her from the corner of her eye, making her aware of his presence before he sat down on the other side of the tree.
“I’m sorry…” Zelda muttered after a moment, wiping her eyes with the heel of her hand. “That was foolish of me…”
“Mm,” Link hummed as though he were reluctant to agree with her.
“I just felt like I was...coming apart,” Zelda sniffed. “And I didn’t want to do it in front of strangers.”
“Mm,” Link hummed again, shifting around the tree until he sat by her side, hips touching as she reached out to him for reassurance. Their custom of sharing a bed had lowered some of the physical boundaries between them; it spoke of something they each knew but weren’t ready to address just yet. Not when so much was uncertain outside of their little nest in Hateno Village.
“They’re doing beautifully, aren’t they?” Zelda said with a watery chuckle. “All of them...they’re all doing so well. And it’s good...it’s better than I could have imagined but…”
Link reached out, giving her leg a reassuring squeeze as she tried to piece together her thoughts.
“I thought…” Zelda let out a deep breath, shaking her head. “I don’t know what I thought...I didn’t think my kingdom would dry up and die without my family to lead it but…”
She drew up her knees to her chest, blinking back tears as she watched the world move on without her in the valley below. “I thought I would at least be needed...or wanted. I thought I would have a place in the world I had helped protect but…”
Link watched her deflate as she finally confronted the thing she had been running from for weeks. “Maybe Hyrule doesn’t need Princess Zelda anymore...maybe it never did. Maybe it’s best to let the old kingdom just...lie”
Zelda took a deep breath, looking at him with such a lost and scared look that he felt his heart ache on her behalf. “I just wish I knew what was to become of me…”
The wind rippled past them, sending flower petals tumbling through the grass as Zelda seemed too lost and tired to properly cry anymore. Link stumbled for the right words to say for a moment, starting and stopping several times before crouching down in front of her.
<What if one day you realized you weren’t meant to be a princess?> Link signed, watching Zelda’s red-rimmed eyes trace the motion of his hands. <Would you choose a different path?>
Zelda let out a weary chuckle, looking away in embarrassment. “You shouldn’t use my own words against me like that…”
<Even if you’re right?> Link countered. Zelda was silent for a long moment, listening to the revelers carry on down the hill with a wistful look in her eye.
“It feels like...giving up,” Zelda said slowly. “Like I’m just...walking away from everything my family has ever done; letting my parents down, I expect...even though they’re gone and there’s no one left to be disappointed in my choices I still feel...obligated to try and set things back to the way they used to be. As though I’m some sort of failure if I don’t…”
Link started signing something. “I know,” Zelda chuckled. “I know I’ve done something nobody else in the world can do; I know I’ve helped save the world from the Calamity and ensured that Hyrule lives to see another year, but-”
<It’s hard to become someone else,> Link signed, watching Zelda nod distantly. <Even if that’s someone you want to be.>
“And if I don’t know what I want to be?” Zelda asked, watching Link stand up and brush his trousers off.
<Then we can figure that out,> Link signed, offering her his hand as the last word left his fingertips. Zelda looked at his rough, calloused fingertips for a moment, head tilting to one side as she reached out and took it, hauling herself to her feet with a sigh.
“Impa won’t be happy,” Zelda said, eyes widening as Link signed something exceptionally rude. “ Link!”
Grabbing her hand, he tugged her back up the hill towards the glowing Sheikah shrine above them. “Wait, what about Tarry Town?”
Link shrugged, holding the Sheikah slate up to the eye on the front as the doors opened, the elevator rising seamlessly from the earth beneath her feet. He watched her eyes widen in curiosity, taking a step forward before glancing at him with an uncertain smile.
“Isn’t it dangerous?” Zelda asked. Link tapped the sword hilt on his back with a smile that could almost be mistaken for smug. “Of course…”
<You don’t want to?> Link asked, taking a step backwards. <I get it; it’s nerdy stuff. Probably not interested.>
Zelda’s brow creased into a scowl that didn’t reach the stubborn smile on her lips, marching into the cool, dark elevator and insistently looking back at her would-be guardian. “Well?”
Link stepped into the elevator, nudging her with his shoulder as the door closed and the elevator took them deeper into the earth. Surrounded by ancient technology she could spend the next hundred years studying, with Link’s shoulder brushing up against hers, Zelda felt a little less unsure of her place in this new Hyrule she had helped save.

Mutual (Mis)Understandings
Summary: Wild and Zelda seem to be engaged... and Twilight like the worried mother hen of the group that he is overreacts and misunderstands greatly.
Or, Zelda and Wild are best friends, but they’re also both arcace and the only reason they’ll ever get married is for the Hylian equivalent of tax-benefits.
Note: this was purely self indulgent and was written instead of my actual next LU fic. In the mean time, enjoy this. From now on I only write aroace Wild and Flora and if you don’t like it then don’t talk to me lmao
-o-o-o-o-
Twilight supposes it was only a matter of time before they ran into Wild's Zelda. Because, despite Wild's Hyrule being so much larger than it's versions before it, Zelda apparently was still a woman who could not be confined to the walls of her castle. If she wanted to explore and meet new people, then she would. According to Wild, that is.
Zelda is, at first glance, the embodiment of grace and beauty. Her hair is golden and her eyes the color of the grass that flourishes on the hills. Her lips are full, and colored not a perfect red but not a perfect pink either. Her hair, while chopped short, is braided and styled perfectly in a way that compliments her beauty even more.
But then, you look at her traveling clothes and the twigs in her hair, and you realize that Wild once told you a story about how she tried to force a frog into his mouth.
She stands in the center of Terry Town, near a beautiful fountain built around a small shrine for the goddess Hylia, and in a strange reincarnation way, a tribute for her as well. As the group walks into the town that's suspended on a circle of land that towers high over a small lake, she turns and smiles, delight sparkling in her eyes when her gaze lands on her knight. It's an unexpected reunion, one that started with Wild wanting to show them something he's proud of, and one that's turning out to be more of a treat than any of them expected. Especially, when besides Twilight, Wild lets out a happy gasp and runs ahead of the group, slamming into his princess with a tight and joy-filled hug. The moment is so touching that even Legend smiles.
The hug lasts a little longer before Zelda and Wild part, splitting to stand next to each other with shoulders brushing. They look perfect together. Like they were made for each other. Wild smiles at the group and Zelda matches his smile but in a more polite and curious way.
"I believe introductions are in order?" She asks, though it's not really a question. More like an invitation.
Twilight looks over at Wild, a matching look of awkwardness passing between them. Hyrule pulls at his collar nervously. It's always… strange to introduce themselves to people. While many people are named Link to honor heroes, it is still strange to have nine boys traveling together all introduce themselves as such. They really need to come up with better names than rancher and traveler and the old man.
Thankfully, Time is ever the wisest and the owner of the group's meager stash of brain cells. He steps forward with a respectable bow. "Princess Zelda," he says, standing up from his bow, "we have traveled with Link for a few months now and have found ourselves caught in… quite a complicated story. Perhaps, if I may be so bold, it would be wise to allow us a more private space for introductions?"
"I see," Zelda says, her polite smile turning into something a little sharper. Not in an offended way, but in a way that she knows something that they don't. Thankfully, she doesn't keep them waiting for long. "Yes, perhaps it would be wise. Though, it seems I must have to introduce myself as well before we begin. It's not princess. It's queen."
-o-o-o-o-
Twilight sometimes keeps himself up at night wondering about how his Zelda might take the news of there being eight more heroes carrying the name "Link" around. It's hard to tell with her, and it's not like they're close. Their relationship is strictly "Princess and Hero", and the most they have in common besides the whole reincarnation thing is Midna.
Which is a topic both of them tend to avoid.
So really, he cannot say for sure how she'd react. Would she believe it? Would she take it in stride? Twilight can really only imagine her taking in the information with a straight face before saying it doesn't concern her so begone.
One thing's for sure, she wouldn't react like Wild's Zelda does.
Because, well, if Twilight thought the kids at his home village were made of skin, bone, and questions, then the Zelda before him is made of questions, questions, and more questions.
"Who is the first among you? What year was it? Strange, it seems you used a different calendar than us. And it's peculiar you two have the same dates but live in completely different worlds- oh you and your Zelda were childhood friends? And you have two Zeldas'? What about you? What is your kingdom like-?
By the end of the afternoon, everyone's mouths had run dry from talking and Warriors was about to jump into the fountain at the center of town yelling about thirst before a tall Gerudo lady stopped him with a level look.
Zelda and Wild have broken off from the group; the town's people and the various guards who must be here for Zelda's protection (even though Twilight's sure she can definitely more than protect herself, it must be for their own peace of mind) have stopped giving them those you nasty foreigners looks and have actually started to seek out conversation in the form of you have money, I have things to sell, wink wink. As the sun crept closer towards the edges of Death Mountain, everyone one-by-one decided the beds promised to them at the inn sounded more interesting than sitting around and doing nothing.
Time being one of the first to retire, not that Twilight blames him. The question "Which one of you is the hero from ten thousand years ago?" weighs heavy on all their minds. The lore of that hero doesn't sound familiar to any of them, and it left the whole group wondering how many lives they have lived, and if they are destined to add more to their group of nine.
Regardless, Twilight finds himself one of the last members to head to bed, and not for the lack of trying. He had accidentally mentioned wrestling around a towering Goron and his little brother and had, in a sting of events he was entirely unwilling in, found himself wrestling Greyson with a whole crowd of townspeople watching with jeers and enthusiasm. Greyson wasn't a full grown Goron, so it was surprisingly easy to knock him out of their makeshift ring carved into the ground with a stick without the aid of his iron boots.
After winning that fight, the Gerudo lady who probably made Warriors wet his pants with her glare decided she wanted in on the action, to which Wind and Hyrule screamed out he was a coward for turning her down by saying he definitely already knows she'll win.
Because she definitely will win. He's seen fully grown pumpkins smaller than her biceps.
But, Twilight is ever the gentleman and absolutely not a coward and caved even though he knows he will walk away from this with a few new bruises.
Turns out, the kind of wrestling the Gerudo lady (who he finds out is named Rhondson judging by the "TEAR HIS ARMS OFF, RHONDSON!" that was yelled out from the crowd as she knocked his feet out from below him) was trying to do was different from goat and Goron wrestling, and he was completely unprepared for her to bring him to the ground and attempt at pinning him down like a madwoman. He's never been so terrified in his entire life.
He should have explained the rules better to more than just Greyson.
He was in the middle of trying to shove her off from him (because apparently a loss is being pinned down for three seconds as refereed by her husband and Twilight is not about to lose so easily with Wind in the sidelines laughing so hard he has tears in his eyes) when he notices Wild and his Zelda leave a building and quietly retreat towards the far cliff edges of town. Rhondson seems to notice this as well, because she pauses in her tortuous wrestling long enough to mutter under her breath "young love..."
To which. Twilight promptly short-circuits.
Young love?
Wild?
And Zelda?
HIS WILD?! AND QUEEN ZELDA?
Yeah sure, he knew Zelda and Wild were close, but Wild was the most… rowdy and dirty piece of work he's ever met. And sure, Zelda isn't exactly the most poise and elegant creature in the world—the twigs still in her hair, the mud running up her boots to her trousers, the ever slowly becoming undone braids in her hair that she doesn't seem to truly care about are all testament of that. Twilight is just… well, he didn't think Wild had it in him. To catch the attention and affection of someone like Zelda… Twilight needs to hand it to him. He guesses Wild can be romantic when he wants to be.
Unfortunately, thanks to his little brain explosion, Rhondson manages to pin him down long enough for Hudson to smack the ground three times. (Seriously, what is up with the son part of everyone's name?)
Rhondson lets him up with a triumphant smirk and Twilight lays on the ground, winded.
"Young love?" He croaks, because his brain is still trying to process. It's like adding two and two together and getting goat.
Rhondson's smirk seems to widen even more as she extends a hand, golden jewelery clinking on her toned wrists. "Don't you know? The Queen and her knight are engaged."
She says it casually like it's nothing truly new or exciting as she lifts him to his feet.
Wind's laughter from the sidelines suddenly turns into choking noises. Twilight can only short-circuit some more.
Because what.
Rhondson doesn't explain anymore as she accepts cheering from the rest of the town. No one explains as the crowd disperses, the sun fully behind Death Mountain and the moonrise breeze moving in with the smell of the ocean. Soon enough, Twilight is still standing where he's been left, Wind sitting on the ground cross-legged with his chin in his hands, and Hyrule standing besides him looking unsure if he should suggest bed or something else.
Engaged.
Wild is seventeen (plus one hundred but that doesn’t count) years old and he's engaged.
He knows the age of adulthood changes every so often, but honestly at least wait until you're twenty before you commit! Or let Twilight be married first!
He slowly manages to crawl out from his churning thoughts back into his body, and the first thing he does is look towards where Zelda and Wild disappeared to and suddenly his brain is thinking of a whole matter of things the two of them might be doing. Alone. With no one to catch them.
He's moving to follow them before he can make himself rethink to maybe respect their choices and boundaries. Hyrule, perhaps thinking the same thing, grabs onto the tail of his wolf's pelt.
"Wait!" Hyrule says, trying to be the voice of reason, which is strange because normally that's Twilight's job, "maybe we should let them be… alone-"
"Traveler, are you a man or a mouse?!" Wind demands, catching up to the two of them, looking way too determined to intrude upon a potential make-out session.
Hyrule squeaks. "M-man!"
Twilight ignores them as he creeps towards the buildings the two love birds disappeared behind.
"Besides, the champion brought this upon himself," Wind continues. "He should have told us he was going to be the future King of Hyrule. He deserves it."
It; being a good sneaking up on. Twilight finds himself agreeing. They've known Wild for how long and he hasn't told them at all that he was engaged?
The topic of love and settling down has come up many times in their group.
"Champion, do you like anyone?" "Nah, the only thing I like is cooking." "Hey champion, after all this and settling down, what are your plans?" "To become a world renowned chef." "Cook! I saw the face you were making when Malon was talking about girls! Who were you thinking of?" "Food. Duh."
The sniveling little weasel. To think Twilight fell for it.
Twilight holds up his hand as they approach the buildings, Wind and Hyrule quiet down their conversations. It seems even though Hyrule took a rare attempt at peacekeeping, he has ultimately decided upon even though I don't like it I still want to come along. They poke their heads around the corner of the building and find…
Nothing.
No one is here.
How interesting.
Wind gives a groan of outrage and Hyrule releases a sigh of relief so powerful the grass waves a little. Twilight continues forward and looks at the soft dirt on the ground that leads to the sheer unforgiving drop of cliff. They should really fence this off, he's seen the children in the town and one of them could easily fall.
"I can't believe the cook, the sly fox," Wind was grumbling and not for the first time Twilight decides to not ask how the kid knows so much about stuff like this. Hyrule says something back about maybe there's a reason Wild's kept it secret but Twilight doesn't listen in too hard as his eyes catch on something in the ground.
There. Footsteps. Fresh. Two different sizes, one small and the other slightly larger. Could easily belong to a queen wearing muddy boots and a knight.
He follows the footsteps and his stomach jumps when he follows them to the edge of the cliff.
Did they… were they so... that they didn't notice the cliff?!
He rushes towards the quite literal edge of Terry Town and frantically looks down into the water below. It's hard to see with the light of the quarter moon creeping up behind them.
He can't see a thing, but thankfully Wind has a knack for looking into the horizon because his voice cuts through his internal panic with the pointing of a hand.
"Look!"
Twilight follows the pointing finger until his eyes land on the distant sight of two people sharing one lantern in the forest past the edge of the lake. One is vaguely femininely shaped and the other about the same height but with less curves. They're walking through the tall grass and wirey trees, past the empty husks of what Wild calls Guardians.
Until Wild points out something and they share a look before running behind one of the husks and staying there.
How… how unseemly! Didn't one of those things kill Wild?!
Twilight grabs at the grapple in his bag, thankful he decided to keep that with him instead of putting everything in the inn, and ties the end of it around one of the nearby fence posts. The shore of the lake doesn't look too far from here. He should be able to swim it. Easy.
Wind and Hyrule follow him down without complaint, as Twilight drops the other end of his grapple down with the fill length of chain extended. It takes a few minutes and a few stomach churning, chain wiggling moments with the wind for Twilight to finally find himself at the end of the line, just a short distance from the water.
He hopes there's no monsters in there.
Well. Here goes nothing.
He lets go of the chain and his stomach flips just a bit before he hits the surprisingly refreshing water. Not too cold but not worryingly warm. It's also shallow, his toes brushing the bottom for just a moment before he swims towards where he thinks the shore is and upwards until he reaches the surface with a gasp. There's two more splashes behind him and soon the three of them find themselves gasping and dripping on the muddy and rocky shore of the lake. Hyrule looks the worst out of all of them, perhaps not as used to swimming, but they at least all made it with no monster battles or near drownings. So a win.
The light of the two love bird's lantern is still a good distance away, and by the time they near most of the water has dripped away from their clothes and hair, leaving them uncomfortably damp.
And as they near closer, the louder they can hear… giggling.
Twilight puts a hand to his lips and stops Hyrule and Wind where they stand. Wind looks about ready to throw a fit with a string of embarrassing things like I know what sex is and 'm not a kid but thinks the wiser of it when Hyrule frantically makes cut throat notion, signalling yelling is not the best idea right now.
Twilight takes it upon himself to approach the husk of the Guardian himself. He feels… icky. Like he shouldn't impose. But there's such a thing as chastity and being too young to accidentally become with child. Twilight knows Wild and Zelda has been away from each other for some time, and the… urge must be strong, but he will not allow his protégé to make a mistake he might regret before he's even married.
"Oh Link, it's beautiful!" Zelda says, breathless.
Twilight takes a deep breath and walks around the Guardian with his hands on his hips. Hopefully Zelda doesn't order his death for this.
"What are you two doing?!"
And then he pauses, eyes wide as Wild jumps up from where he's been crouching, pulling out his sword and looking more angry than what Twilight's ever seen him, before shock and curiosity replaces the anger. Zelda is standing behind him, having jumped to her feet and pulling out a dagger, and behind her a green firebug flies away.
They're both fully clothed and looking at Twilight like he's grown a second head.
"Um." Twilight says smartly, his brain going back into process-mode as Zelda rolls her eyes, puts her dagger away, and looks behind her for the firebug that's flown away.
"Are they decent?" Hyrule's voice asks, which is something Wind doesn't bother to do before he steps around the Guardian to stand by Twilight with a disappointed face. Someone really needs to wash that kid's brain out with soap.
"Decent?" Wild asks, confused. Zelda doesn't say anything, she's crouched further into the forest and creeping up on another firebug.
They were… looking at bugs.
"It's okay, traveler," Twilight says, releasing a breath and thanking Hylia and all the other spirits for everything somehow being a misunderstanding. "We were wrong."
"Wrong about what?" Wild asks, sounding even more confused.
Twilight shakes his head and grabs Wind's head, wrapping his hand around the boy's mouth before he can say anything gross. Hyrule walks over, looking as relieved as he might if he were told the spirit of the demon Ganondorf was forever destroyed. Which is to say, he was looking extremely relieved.
"Oh good," Hyrule says as Wild mutters what's probably explicits behind Twilight's hand. "We thought you were having- mmph?!"
Twilight has successfully grabbed Hyrule's face with his other hand and covers his mouth too. Now, with both boys successfully gagged and pinned to his chest, Twilight gives Wild his best smile and hopes it doesn't look too conspicuous and nervous.
"We saw the light and thought you two saw something dangerous," he lies easily.
Wild gives him a slight suspicious look, his eyes flickering between Twilight's two captives and Twilight himself before shrugging and putting his sword away. Twilight had to fight to keep a straight face as Hyrule elbows his side and Wind licks his hand.
"It's Zelda's first time at Terry Town, and I wanted to show her the creatures that call this place home," Wild explains, not looking all that concerned that Twilight is still holding two of their group members captive by the faces. Hyrule is licking too now, but Twilight can't trust them not to say the sex word yet. Twilight grew up the perpetual older brother of four kids in Ordon, he's been in positions like this before with much more slobbery licking.
"Oh that's good then, no danger!" Twilight says, keeping in a gasp as Hyrule elbows his side harder and Wind makes a mad grasp for his hair.
Thankfully, Zelda speaks up in a whisper-yell from where she's crouching. "Link! There's a wolf!"
Wild gives the other heroes a wide grin before he quietly sprints towards Zelda and couches besides her. The two begin to talk to each other in hushed voices.
Twilight let's a second pass, and then he releases his captives.
Hyrule takes in a deep gasp like Twilight had been strangling him—he wasn't—and Wind spits at the ground furiously like what he licked had been poisonous—Twilight is doubtful the palm of his hand tasted that bad.
Before either of them could recover, Twilight leans down and grabs them both by the points of their ears.
"Do. Not. Say. A. Word."
Wind whacks his hand away, scowling. "Okay okay! Geez-"
Twilight gives them both level glares and eventually they both nod in agreement. Whatever misunderstanding has just happened, Wild and Zelda were to remain unaware of it. Period.
With the unspoken agreement, the three of them walk up to Wild and Zelda, of which Wild is currently in a long ramble in the differences between all the kinds of wolves in Hyrule. Apparently, wolves in Akkala have slightly shorter snouts compared to Hyrule Field Wolves even though they have the same coloring. Interesting. Kind of useless to Twilight, but he'd much rather listen to Wild explain the slight differences of wolves than… other things.
When Zelda requests to see the two kinds of wolves side-by-side, Wild promises he has pictures of both of them on his little magic box thing.
And that's... pretty much how the next few hours go. Wild and Zelda run bush to bush, talking excitedly between each other about black winged butterflies and the abilities gained from eating a golden beetle, and the three other heroes follow along like lost puppies, not able to offer a single shred of new information to the chatty environmentalists. Twilight manages to get in a small comment about the Ordon goats—and ignores the triplet groaning from Wild, Wind, and Hyrule—but after he fails to produce a picture of his favorite animal Zelda loses interest and moves on to poking the leaves of some random flower.
Twilight sighs. Someday someone will worship the Ordon goats like they deserve.
Sigh.
Someday.
Hours pass and Wind gives a huge very bored sounding yawn, which somehow earns the pity of Zelda. "You're right, small pirate Link. It is probably about time we should head back." She turns towards the Wild with a glint in her eyes. "I'm sure the guards are missing us."
Wild snickers and Twilight rolls his eyes before turning to look at where the cliffs surrounding Terry Town. Then, something occurs to him.
"Hey, you came down with your paraglider?" Twilight says and Wild nods slowly, patting the folded up contraption on his back. "How did you two plan on getting back to town?"
Matching looks of we didn't think of that flashes on Zelda and Wild's faces.
Twilight sighs, turning to Zelda. "Think you can climb a chain or do you want to walk up the long way?"
Zelda narrows her eyes and rolls up her sleeves. Her biceps, too, resemble that of a grown pumpkin. Twilight won't ask if she's sure, he bets she can take him down wrestling as well.
"Alright then," he says.
They walk back towards the lake as a group, and Twilight does his best to comfort Hyrule who's glaring at the water with resentment. It will definitely be harder getting back up than it was getting down. They'll have to swim the lake and climb up the cliffs a bit before jumping to the hanging chain and climbing the rest of the way up there. It'll be a fun workout.
As they walk, Twilight falls back to fall into step with Zelda and Wild. Wind and Hyrule continue onwards in front of them.
"So…" Twilight says under his breath, just loud enough for the two champions of this time to hear them. They both give him curious looks. "Engaged, huh?"
Twilight expected blushing or blubbering or something. What he got was a full on belly laugh from the queen and a rolling-of-the-eyes from her knight and husband-to-be.
"Who told you," Wild demands as Zelda laughs on, earning slightly concerned looks from Hyrule and Wind, "was it Rhondson? I bet it was Rhondson."
"Why didn't you tell me?" Twilight asks, ignoring Wild's (accurate) accusations towards Rhondson.
At this, a flash of guilt passes over Wild's face and Zelda quiets, looking interested. "It… never came up?"
"You forgot, didn't you?" Zelda asks. Wild gives her an apologetic look and she scoffs, looking shockingly more amused than anything.
"I didn't... forget. I was just focused on the quest!"
"It's okay, Link. I forgot too."
"Oh thank Hylia."
The two of them fall into some strange companionable understanding silence and Twilight is left completely and frustratingly out of an apparent inside joke or some sort.
He sighs. "Look, I know this might sound weird, coming from me," Zelda and Wild give him their attention with matching expressions of curiosity, "but I know you're both young and probably haven't been taught very well about… adult matters, so…" oh this is so awkward, they're looking confused, "if you have any questions about… um… urges or desires-"
"Oh!" Zelda says, clapping her hands together in front of her. "You mean sex!"
Twilight chokes on his words and Wild nearly trips into the dirt. Zelda looks like she hasn't said anything strange at all.
"Don't worry, Mr Goat Farmer Link. Link and I know all about sex and we decided we will not being doing it," Zelda says as if she's reassuring a worried soldier or something similar. Indifferent. Straight faced.
"Y-yeah," Wild says after he had refound his footing. "Strictly business. Our marriage."
"I was tired of Impa asking when I'll get married and produce an heir," Zelda explains easily, though she gave a slight disgusted tone at the word produce. "I am much more interested in so many other things, but Impa was getting insistent." Zelda rolls her eyes.
"So Zelda decided to ask me to marry her," Wild puts in quietly, "and I told her that um… I'm not interested in her or in anyone that way, but she said the same thing and then told me that it would benefit us both to marry anyway and so… yeah."
"Impa would stop bugging me about getting married and Link would have unlimited access to the castle kitchens once it's fully repaired. I can continue my journey to study and rebuilt this country in peace and Link can continue his dreams of cooking."
Twilight finds himself nodding, because it makes just as much sense as it doesn't make sense. Which means he doesn't get it but they do so he won't argue on it. "But what about… continuing the royal line?"
"The line will die with me," Zelda says. Like that wasn't a royal bombchu-shell . "Because I will not be bearing any children. We will adopt or I will choose someone I trust to take the throne when the time is right. We will decide when the time comes." She grabs Wild's hand and he squeezes in reply. "Together."
Twilight nods again, deciding against arguing that too.
"Is that what you thought we were doing, rancher?" Wild asks. "Having…"
Twilight's cheeks heat up. "Nope. Not at all."
"Oh, okay…"
Wild definitely doesn't believe it, and he's smirking, but it seems he will save Twilight from embarrassment for the rest of the night. No promises tomorrow though, Twilight's sure.
Turns out, Zelda can absolutely crush them all at swimming and scaling a cliff with a hanging chain. She is hardly even winded when they all reach the top. She bids them all farewell and heads towards the home that has graciously lended her a guest room for her stay. The guards all look extremely relieved to see her, and they disappear into the home with a final wave from Zelda towards their direction.
"I can't believe you're engaged, gremlin," Wind says through a yawn and Wild laughs.
"We're just really good friends," he replies, and Twilight smiles. The trust between the two of them must be so strong regardless of physical desire. He still doesn't understand it, but Wild looks happy and Zelda looks happy and they both clearly love each other.
In their own way.
And Twilight can respect that.

Alright, I think i’m done BOTW 2 spamming for today. Anywho, time for some thoughts in general!
1) I hated how the shrines in BOTW were so cold and dark compared to the bright and lively nature outside (I wish they had all looked like the Master Trials challenge where there were trees and stuff incorporated inside), so I hope if we’re forced to have dungeons they’ll be more like the Wind Waker ones. 2) I hope they don’t make us use the grappling hook or anything like in Wind Waker to move around the sky islands (I hated that mechanic). 3) I’m probably one of the few people who wanted less Zelda and more of the Champions in HWAOC since i’m only really attached to BOTW (and we saw a fair amount of Tetra in Wind Waker)/apparently Zelda’s been sidelined in all the other games, so i’m hoping in vain that we get more Champions material in BOTW 2. Also, Link could stand to have some more cutscenes centered around him as well (the few we got in some of the sidequests in BOTW were great). 4) I only really somewhat care about Riju and Sidon, so I won’t mind if the new gang gets sidelined in BOTW 2 (I still think Nintendo wasted the found family/band of brothers aspect on the dead characters--I love them so much and they’re all I want!! The problem is, they’re dead and I don’t really care all that much about their replacements!!! I dunno, maybe i’m hampered by the fact that I can replay the original champions’ memories whenever I want/read their diaries, but I can’t rewatch the new gang’s cutscenes AKA i’ve forgotten their characterization since they don’t talk to me much now that the game’s over). It’d be great if they have some weaving storylines in BOTW 2 that will get me more invested in them, but currently i’m not that interested. 5) Speaking of which, I know it’s 100% not going to happen, but goddang if I don’t want the Champions to have been returned to life. Nintendo totally squandered HWAOC by not making it a true prequel/canon to BOTW (the Champions Ballad confirmed that the Divine Beasts had trials in order to be synced to the champs, so the new gen use of them wouldn’t have happened without that + Mipha thought Link had changed in BOTW yet says in HWAOC that he hasn’t changed + some scenes like “Champion Revali’s Song” never happened at all/got replaced with alternative scenes that really changed some dynamics + basically all of Revali’s time-relative characterization from his diary/pre-100 years of solitude got thrown out + I feel like Daruk got totally sidelined), so i’m still craving that Champions content. Also, I feel like it’s totally unfair that Zelda came out of 100 years totally unaged while everyone else died. Life seems to really suck for people in the LoZ universe who aren’t chosen by divine powers. 6) They’d better keep it open world and non-linear. I can’t go back to being forced to backtrack/trudge through things, I just can’t. BOTW was everything i’ve ever dreamed about in a game (truly open world + non-linear + interactive + meaningful story + lots of outfits + beautiful landscapes) with Skyrim previously being the only thing that came close to what I wanted, so I really hope BOTW 2 doesn’t deviate too much from that. 7) I really liked Kass in BOTW, but i’m not sure what direction they’d go with him in BOTW 2/i’d be fine if he sat BOTW 2 out. I worked so hard to complete all his quests in BOTW so he’d go back home to his family, GODDANGIT, KASS. 8) Someone mentioned that since the first trailer had underground aspects, we’re probably going to be playing as Zelda with the Slate there, and I agree. They didn’t make a playable model for her in HWAOC for nothing. 9) I want to be able to stable the deer and bears and stuff, but I know that won’t happen. Being able to ride the moose and rhino things from the Hebra area probably won’t happen either, but I want to ride them!!! 10) I hope there’ll be at least a few new buildings and stuff in the towns/they’ve started construction on some areas in Central Hyrule, but I guess that’ll depend on how long it’s been in-universe since BOTW. Or maybe not, considering how there’s still Karson and Hudson even though Bolson retired from Bolson Construction--insta-towns like Tarrey Town could totally be feasible if they wanted! 11) I have one foot in the camp that believes there’ll be time shenanigans in BOTW 2. HWAOC totally threw me off with it being an alternate timeline, so i’m not sure whether we’re going to be experiencing that again or time travel itself, but I definitely won’t be surprised this time around if Nintendo goes that route again (and it would be super interesting to see the Link from 10,000 years ago). I’m not entirely convinced that the Link we see exploring the sky in the second trailer isn’t our Link, mainly because he seems to still have on the blue boxers from BOTW. 12) I also heard that maybe this will be the last LoZ game ever since something something Demise something Skyward Sword something something lore from games i’ve only vaguely looked into (i’ve only ever played BOTW --> Wind Waker --> HWAOC)??? If so, it kind of sucks that I came in just when they started making games with playstyles palatable to me (I had to look up every single thing when playing Wind Waker, but BOTW let me solve things according to MY logic/I missed being able to explore in HWAOC), but at least it’ll end on a super high note/I won’t experience later disappointment, I guess. If BOTW 2 involves breaking the reincarnation cycle for the Triforcers, I would be really surprised. (On a related note, Nintendo making Ganondorf good would also be a 100% shock to me, but it would be great to end on that as a subversion. Yes, I want them to bring back the semi-complicated Ganondorf from Wind Waker.) 13) I hope they don’t rush releasing it. I heard they pushed back BOTW originally (I got it in 2019), but it came out fantastic for it! I know COVID’s been affecting things, so I really hope they’re treating their staff right and are mindful of crunch. 14) I want even more outfits (there seem to be at least two new ones, if the variant of the Hylian Tunic crossed with Link’s Champion’s Tunic counts). Give me all the outfits!!! Also, I hope we get even more hair variations in addition to the hair down option (which is all i’ve ever wanted since I saw the mod that altered the Ancient Helmet). 15) I wonder if we’re going to get a bonus for having both BOTW and HWAOC save data. 16) I wonder if we’re going to be keeping the Champions’ skills. I’m going to miss being super overpowered, if not. 17) I hope Nintendo doesn’t cave in and make surfaces climbable in the rain. Having that limiter is more realistic and Link would otherwise be too overpowered with a super climbing ability. 18) I liked BOTW’s scattered music that got more noticeable in populated areas because it was fitting for the post-apocalyptical/nature aspect. Hearing your footsteps in an open field and the buzzing of insects was super nice and prevented me from getting music fatigue (which i’d probably experience since whenever I play BOTW it’s for 5-10 hours at a time). I hope Nintendo either keeps that or makes audio options. 19) I heard that BOTW 2 is going to be super dark or something, and i’m okay with dark, but not GRIMdark, so I hope it doesn’t go that far. From what we’ve seen in the second trailer it still looks beautiful, but I hope it doesn’t do that thing that some games do where after the midpoint/a certain story point all the scenery permanently changes to be dark and scary (that’ll seriously hamper post-game playability for me if so). 20) If they expand on the Zonai, that would be super cool! Doubly cool if the time travel shenanigans involve them/ancient Link being one! 21) I kind of want windstorms to be a weather feature. We had lightning, heat, and cold, but no wind! No, I don’t count the wind geysers and the occasional breeze in Tabantha. 22) I want a chest in my house to hold more weapons than just the gear mounts. BOTW only had enough mounts for the champions’ gear, but it also had rare items like the Kite Shield and Forest Dweller’s Sword that you can’t get anymore once you use them up! 23) I want to be able to stable my horses at my house. What’s the point of that little area if you can’t stable your horse there! 24) Speaking of Link’s house: where is Zelda going to live? If the castle’s not reconstructed, it’d be neat if Link adds an extension to his house for her. 25) I hope they open up part-time jobs (think Mabinogi) as an option to earn rupees. Having to hunt for Luminous Stone deposits or feed Trott to make money can be such a chore. I think some of BOTW’s minigames/sidequests might count as those, but those minigames were either frustrating if your goal is to earn money (since most of them cost money to play in the first place and the mechanics weren’t always easy), or didn’t earn that much in general. 26) I wonder if Kilton is going to have updated items since the monsters seem to have changed. 27) I want to be able to dive underwater (mainly so I can explore the beautiful reefs over at Lurelin). A dive meter like the one from Super Mario Sunshine would be cool. Also, it’d doubly be neat if you had a separate stamina wheel for swimming and could permanently upgrade your swim/diving stamina (the speed+ swimming items just consumed your stamina faster, which was a pain)! 28) It’s definitely too late for this, but it’s a shame that the Hylians have so many face/body/hair and outfit variations, but the Zora, Rito, and Gorons don’t. The Gerudo were kind of okay with the hair and body variations, but the other races seemed to have a serious copy-paste problem. I guess technically some of the more important NPCs (ones with quests/cutscene triggers) had different coloring, but they were severely lacking in clothing variation. Also, the only old Rito was the elder??? At least the Gorons and Zora had some old folks besides their leader walking around. Very weird, but I don’t think BOTW 2 can fix any of this. 29) I wonder how they’re going to do the final boss battle, considering how epic/cinematic the BOTW 2x battle was. What can top fighting (on horseback, no less) a giant, flaming boar made out of malice? 30) I wonder what the Yiga are going to be up to, considering how Ganondorf seems to be somewhat kicking in BOTW 2.

So I Don’t Forget Again: A Breath of The Wild fanfiction
Entry 101: Toruma Dunes
Before going to bed, Chief Riju and I took a trip to the spa. It was absolutely amazing. I was so relaxed my mind just kind of faded? My right arm was a little sensitive, and was very tense according to the… Spa ladies? Masseuses? I’m not sure what they’re called. The spa is attached to an inn so right after the massage I was given a room to stay in for the night. With my body so relaxed I actually fell asleep.
While I was sleeping, I had a dream. I think it may had been a memory. We were watching the courtyard from high above. A Sheikah was demonstrating some of the guardian’s functions to some knights. My heart leapt in my throat despite it not doing anything. Just walking around. The princess eagerly watched. She spoke of how it was incredible how we could now control them and added that it shouldn’t be long till we know everything about them. When she spoke, she was interrupted by the King. He asked in a demanding voice what she was doing here. His face was stern unlike now that he’s a spirit. The princess spoke of how useful learning about the ancient technology would be for driving back the Calamity. Once again, she was interrupted by the King. He said he already knew that and elaborated on how as princess there was a duty she had yet to fulfill, gaining her spiritual powers. He told her to stop treating that as some game to which she retorted back saying that she was already trying her best. She spoke of how she prayed tirelessly at the spring of courage. Once more she was interrupted. He said she was wasting her time. She needed to unlock her power and dedicate her time to nothing else. She said she was, there was nothing more she could do. She wanted to now focus on the technology since it was something she could do, but the king said that she is the only one with the power that can seal the calamity away, it was paramount that she finally unlock it. He then decreed that she have nothing to do with the technology anymore and commanded that she focus on her training. He then spoke of rumors that were being spread about. About how she is the heir to nothing but failure. She had to prove them wrong or else there would be nothing at all. I believe having read so much about her trying and failing caused this to resurface.
When I woke up Bossa Nova had his head resting on my chest. I wanted to get up, but he was just too cute, I couldn’t wake him! Once he did, I went looking around the bazaar for something he could eat. There wasn’t that much vegetation for him to just graze on whenever he wanted. I got him a Hyromelon since they also have lots of water in them so in a way, I’d be making sure he got something to drink as well. Even with it’s hard outer shell he scarfed down the whole thing right away. He must have been very hungry. I apologized by getting him another one. I tried hugging him, but he knocked me over, laid on top on me and kept rubbing the top of his muzzle on my face.
I went to The Noble Canteen for a Noble Pursuit but the woman behind the counter said that I looked much too young for that drink. Then the person behind me said that I’m much older than I look. It was Calisa! After getting our drinks and some mushroom risotto we sat in the lounge area and ate. I thanked her for vouching for me, but she said that the least the Gerudo could do for the person who saved them was let them have a good meal.
It was really nice chatting with her. We talked about traveling for a bit before we started talking about the town. Since it had been so long since she was last here, it felt brand new to her. I asked her if she had ever taken the cooking or wooing classes. She told me that every Gerudo takes those classes. A saying around here is that the best way to get to a person’s heart is through their stomach. It’s but one way of wooing a person. She regaled me with her early days where she first set off out of the town searching to get caught up in a whirlwind of a romance and passion. That she did find, not in a voe, but exploration. Before then she had never even set foot out of the town. Then suddenly she was thrust out into the world only armed with what she had learned back home. She spoke of her many failed romances. The wooing classes did help, but she felt that if anything it was more so of a class about how to interact with someone even with the culture shock of them not being raised Gerudo. Though she did add that the classes may have changed over time.
She then told me of a communal kitchen area where anyone one could cook anything they wanted and said that she could teach me recipes which are good to know for travelers. After getting a stone pot and ingredients we made many dishes, like chilly simmered fruit, mushroom risottos, curry rice, omelets, and some clam chowders. It was so fun learning from her. I told her about my time in the Sheikah Village and how I wound up learning from Koko. I should go back so I can teach her what Calisa taught me. It’ll be so much fun!
Calisa wondered what we were going to do with so much food. In the end I ate all of it. She commented on my appetite. I told her how I never get hungry or full. I just eat when I need to heal and not much else happens, though… now that I’ve eaten more dishes, I forgot how delicious food can be. And cooking in of itself is so fun! I think I’ll eat something at night when Bossa Nova is asleep. Though the smell of the food may wake him. I guess I’ll just have to figure it out when we leave here.
As I was dinning, we overheard a conversation between a woman with a guard. She had found the man of her dreams and soon after getting married he fell terribly ill. The only thing that could cure him is a certain medicine, the medicine is made from the innards of a molduga a giant and mighty fish/worm like creature which burrows through the sand. She wanted help killing one but none of the guards are to leave the town. The Yiga had been acting extremely aggressive since their leader was killed and they didn’t want to risk any of them getting in.
Sidon better make it home safely. And the Gerudo women with him hopefully are safe too.
I didn’t notice myself until Calisa placed a hand on my shoulder. She told me that before I go running off into the desert, I should protect my skin. She found an alovera plant and snapped a piece off and told me to rub the goopy inside on my exposed skin to protect it from the sun.
Bossa nova and I ran around for a while searching. When we noticed the wind picking up, we started heading back to town but before we knew it, we were surrounded by a sandstorm! I would have used the Sheikah Slate’s map, but it wouldn’t do anything. The side that showed the map and the frozen time images was just blank and no matter what I did it wouldn’t do anything. Bossa Nova buried his paws into the ground, and I held on to him. This way we at least weren’t being tossed around by the wind as much.
When the wind died down we were finally able to see. The Sheikah Slate was working again, so we made our way back to town, but as we did so the ground began to quake. The sand next to us began to pick up. It then leaped out and when it came crashing back down it almost swallowed us whole! Thankfully I was quick to draw my bow and shot it in that maw with a bomb arrow. I had Bossa Nova keep running as I shot at the thing. I decided to try shooting it when it was in the sand. It didn’t get hit but I think I discovered something. I think it senses vibrations on the ground. When I shot a bomb arrow into the distance moments after it exploded on the ground the creature leaped up there. After using up most of my bomb arrows the creature was finally felled. Using the Sheikah Slate I found it was the molduga we’d been searching for!
After taking out it’s innards I found it hard to leave. Unlike the moblins and bokoblins who’s bodies turn to smoke upon death this creature’s corps just laid atop the sand. It felt like such a waste to just leave it there.
I gave the items to the woman and she was so thankful. She was instant on giving me three hundred rupees. Calisa approached me asking why I looked odd. I told her about the molduga. She then stared at me for a moment before saying I certainly hadn’t traveled for long, but I had the soul of a traveler. She had us take her to the body.
She had me make a fire and taught me how to figure out what meat on an animal is salvageable and how to turn the meat into jerky. As for the scales and fins we could use them to make cloaks to protect Bossa Nova and myself from sandstorms and other elements. She told me that I could bring the bones to Death Mountain and have the Gorons reforge my weapons with the bone to make them more durable and stronger. If I couldn’t do that then the bone still could be used to make arrowheads. As we were making the jerky some Yiga attacked. Working together we were able to fend them off. She said I was more of a warrior than a traveler, then asked why I’m traveling. I told her everything about saving the champion’s spirits including the princess’, finally defeating the Calamity… about fulfilling my duty as her guard. I hadn’t realized it till talking with her, but I don’t think of this as my duty anymore. I just want too. I want to learn more about my past, who I used to be, who I knew, and I want to learn about this present, it’s future, the people here now, and who I can be.
With so much meat it took a while to make it all into jerky. There was still more meat even late into the night. Calisa left to sleep in the town while Bossa Nova and I are still out here. Bossa Nova doesn’t care for the heat, but he seems to resist the cold well. Perhaps it’s because he’s lived in Zora’s Domain. The water can be freezing there at night.
Maybe Sidon is there now? Deep in those waters, those little spots and his fins so gently glowing. Maybe he’s writing me another letter saying he’s alright, of battles he and the Gerudo had against the Yiga and were victorious.
I miss him. And with Bossa Nova nearby I miss Friend.
The day was alright, fun even, so why do I feel so alone now? I hate this.

Death would be better ch.3
next chapter. a lot more angst. Will Fallen be free? we will never know!
-
‘Link took this opportunity to squirm, kick and shove, finally one well placed punch to Ganon's eye causing the gerudo king to drop him.’
‘I’m free...I’m free! I need to run!’ Link thought as he ran as fast as he could. He didn’t bother to look up, all he could do was run as he heard the chaos. He could hear Ganon’s bombing voice screaming orders at others, the guards and the gerudos panic voices trying to figure out what was happening.
Link could feel himself losing some strength, he was losing his speed and with each step he could hear someone running up to him. Link was silently cursing himself for not eating. He felt hands scoop him up off the ground, to which he lets out an ear shattering scream.
“Link it’s me, I’m you! You're safe!” A voice screamed at him as they ran further from the chaos. Link couldn’t help but notice the difference in the voice, it wasn’t Ganon.
Link finally allowed the darkness to surround him, feeling safe for once.
-
Ganon was trying his best to scream out orders. He had felt Link shake out of his arms not knowing if it was out of fear of him or the one who attacked. However either way Link was getting another session when they got home. As Ganon finally was able to get the wood dust out of his eyes. All he saw was figures he got glances when he touched the triforce, the faces that would doom him to death, the ones that survive if he died. And he saw his Link, his little project being taken by the one he was suppose to become.
“No!” Ganon yelled out in anger. All his progress, his little project in the making, gone. The King looked around in shock, his knights were confused as were the citizens.
“Guards! To the castle now!” Ganon barked out as he marched to the castle. He had worked hard breaking his latest project, and he wasn’t about to let the goddesses or even these heroes mess with his plans.
-
All the Links ran, as they finally got away from the bickering town square they followed the eldest hero. Time was leading the group with the small boy in his arms, and no one said a word as they followed him. They finally got to the outside of some woods.
“The safest place for him is likely inside the woods” Time said before looking back to the links “You guys need to hold on to me, these woods will kill those who get lost”
The boys flinched at that knowledge however hearing the young child whimper in Time’s arms they shoved their fear aside. Twilight grabbed the back of Time’s clothes and the rest of the links formed a chain, not willingly to get close.
They all slowly walked through the forest of green and finally found a clear spot. Time fell to the ground which allowed the other Links to take a break as well.
Time held the unconscious boy closer, trying his best to hold back tears as he glanced over the boy’s body. As the other links got closer some erupted into tears as they saw the child.
He was so skinny and pale, the kind you would expect with prisoners in the dungeon. There were bandages wrapped around his arms when pulled away revealed horrible scars and still healing wounds. The skin on his body looked bruised as well, especially the one forming around his neck. His little whimpers didn’t help any of the spirits of the links.
“Time who is he?” Legend asked in shock.
“I…..I don’t know, I know he freaked out when he saw me,” Time said as he looked down at the child.
Hyrule approached closer, an expression of horror plastered across his face.
“Time, there's a lot of dark magic around his head” Hyrule said as he got close “I think I can get rid of it”
“Will it hurt him?” Time asked with sadness in his eyes.
“No, I'll just remove the dark magic,” Hyrule said as he brought his hands to the side of the child’s head.
As soon as Hyrule started his magic the child’s eyes opened and a scream of horror came from his mouth. The boy began to thrash, kicking and screaming. They boy kept screaming out no’s and different names.
“NOO! Don’t take anymore from me!! NAVI! SARIA!! Some help me!!” the boy in green screams, each word draining Time of his color.
“Link. Link! You’re ok. We won’t take anything from you” Time trying to calm down the boy. The boy finally stopped thrashing but his tear filled eyes glared at Time.
“No, I don't believe you” He whimpered out.
“Why don’t you tell me about Navi?” Time offered as Hyrule secretly started to work his magic.
“...N….Navi was my fairy, my guide….Ganon took her from me” The young child whimpered out.
“We’ll find a way to bring her back” Time whispered out “Who else do you remember?” Hyrule just continued to work his magic.
“T..there was Saira. She had green hair, she was nice….she raised me. There was Ruta….the zora princess, she wanted me to marry her” The child whimpered out.
“Yes, was there anyone else?” Time asked.
“There...there were the gorons” The child sputtered out as a smile crossed his face “Darunia, with the big belly laugh….I remember him”
The other Links smiled as the boy's face lit up until Hyrule let out a scream. The dark magic in the boys head lashed out at all the light magic.
The boy looked up to the others knowing these people were somewhat safe.
‘Will they stay safe?’
-
Ganon was pissed as he walked back and forth in the war room, his mothers finally showed up.
“What wrong?” One of them said, however, Ganon was too riled up to care who.
“What’s wong?!? My little project is missing!” Ganon said throwing something breakable on the floor “And if that wasn’t bad enough! The one who stole him was his older self!”
“What?” One of them asked.
“When I touched the triforce I saw everything! I saw what that little brat will become! And that soldier was exactly what I saw!” Ganon ranted and raved, to his mothers and general.
“All of you, find him!!” Ganon yelled out with anger and slight fear.
Ganon just shaked slightly as he tried to calm down, he had seen what that monster of a child could do as he grew up. He had seen that monster take down a demon and the moon. That man was what the brat would turn to and the only thing that could ruin his place at the throne. It’s why he spent so much time and effort on the brat.
‘And now it could be all ruined”
-
Time held the boy close as he calmed down, the young child was seemingly having trouble breathing.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Time offered, but the child just buried his face into his chest. As the child finally seemed to calm down and fall asleep, Time's face shifted into one of horror.
"Time, What's wrong?" Twilight asked.
"I....I think this child...is me" Time stuttered out in shock. The links confused expression spoke volumes to him.
"How is that possible?" War asked in shock.
"We're likely in our timeline" Legend states gaining all the attention "It's well known that the Hero of Time failed in my timeline"
Everyone looked in horror at the young sleeping child.
"What does your history say about him?" Time asked in a whimper.
"I don't know." Legend offered as his expression shifted to sadness as he looked at the young time "They never said how he failed, just that he didn't defeat Ganon...I would have never guess the monster would do something like this"
"Then we need to do something!" Wind said causing everyone to look at him "We can't leave him with this fate!"
"You're right, but if we're going to help, he needs a name" Time said.
"Fallen”

Ocarina of Time Sentence Starters
Once upon a time I replayed OoT just to save all most of the good lines I could find. Have fun with it.
Kokiri Forest/Lost Woods
How can the world depend on such a lazy child.
Though your valiant efforts to break the curse were successful, I was doomed before you started.
Yes, I will pass away soon but do not grieve for me.
Are you going to go away?
I have to give a neat present to such a wonderful person!
We’ll be friends forever. . . won’t we?
It appears the time has finally come for you to start your adventure!
You will encounter many hardships ahead. . .that is your fate.
Don’t feel discouraged, even through the toughest times!
This is a sacred place where few people have ever walked.
This place will be very important to the both of us someday.
Lon Lon/ Hyrule Field
What are you doing hanging around here? You little weirdo!
It’s tough to be a working man.
When battle has made you weary, please come back to see me.
Castle Town
Things would sure be more interesting if there were more troubles in the world.
Have you heard the legend of the shadow folk?
Be careful not to get caught by the guards!
Well, well - which way are you going to go now?
You’re a smart kid.
He must have fallen asleep somewhere around the castle.
What a thing for an adult to do.
Can’t a person get a little shut-eye around here?
They’re going to really let me have it now!
Hey you, don’t cause any trouble!
Strange . . . it sounds somehow. . . familiar.
I was spying through this window just now.
I can sense that man’s evil intentions.
He has such a terrifying power.
You are a courageous child.
You are heading out on a big, new adventure, aren’t you?
There is a  mysterious power in these notes.
Kakariko Village
Look at that poor person over there.
If you break the curse on my family, we will make you very rich.
Do you always enter other people’s houses without permission?
Young men these days don’t have any ambition.
They’re all worthless, I tell you!
What a bad kid, trying to enter from the rear door!
People are disgusting. My own father and mother are disgusting. You must be disgusting too.
A job where you can make a lot of money without much effort. . . the only thing I can think of is thievery. Is that a bad idea?
The curse is starting to weaken!
You’ll have to hunt at night.
Pay close attention to your surroundings!
Please. . .we’re counting on you.
Thank you for saving my kids.
Death Mountain/Goron City
Everyone feels faint from hunger because of the food shortage in this town.
We don’t get many visitors way up here.
We don’t need any help from strangers!
Something just came over me! I suddenly wanted to dance like crazy!
What a wild adventure! It will make an incredible story.
You risked your life for us.
Kid, I like you!
How’s about you and I become sworn brothers?!
Just take this as a token of our friendship.
Hey everybody! Lets see off our brother!
Do you mind if I call you big brother?
You can’t stop my wild rolling!
I’m working on something really cool right now.
Zoro Domain/Lake Hylia
Take it respectfully!
I want to buy a fish, but they are a little too expensive.
I have no choice but to catch one of the fish that’s swimming around out there.
Are you saying my father asked you to come here to save me?
I’d never ask anyone to do such a thing.
I can’t go home right now.
You, get out of here!
I told you to go away!
You’re that worried about me?
Then I will give you the honor of carrying me.
I won’t leave until I find the thing I’m looking for.
You’d better believe me!
How could you leave me behind!
Take responsibility!
That’s it! That’s what I’ve been looking for!
Throw Me up there! Onto the platform!
Oh my goodness, I finally found my mother’s stone.
I don’t need to be in here anymore.
Take me home right now!
You’re late! What took you so long?
I was just lonely, that’s all, just a little.
You looked cool . . . cooler than I thought you would, anyways, just a little.
I will give you my most precious possession.
Oh - I've come back to life!
Gerudo Fortress
Look over here, Inside this cell!
I have no idea where you come from, but you must have a lot of guts to make it past all the guards around here!
Don’t take us so lightly!
Thank you for coming to save me!
I can’t wait to say good-bye to this place.
I was afraid you were going to forget about me.
To get past the guards here, you must have good thieving skills.
A kid like you has no business there.
Temples
Fire
Are you releasing me? Am I free to go?
I'll tell you a secret for saving me!
Please help big brother!
Thank you, brother. I really appreciate what you did.
Don't forget … now you and I are true brothers.
Water
I never forgot the vows we made to each other seven years ago.
You’re a terrible man to have kept me waiting for these seven long years.
Now is not the time to talk about love.
I want to save them all!
You! You have to help me!
I grant my eternal love to you.
You can’t hide anything from me.
I can tell that nothing will stop you in your quest.
Shadow
Now I see that you have become a fine hero.
I have to stay here.
Spirit
Don’t try to act cool, kid.
Surprised to see me?
Look at that stupid kid.
Hey, where are you taking me?!
I’m going to pay them back for what they did for me.
Time
I’ve been waiting for you.
I waited for seven years.
You let your guard down.
Now it’s time for me to make up for my mistakes.
It’s time for us to say good-bye.
Sheik
Time passes, people move … like a river's flow, it never ends.
Looks like you’re coming around.
They will be in danger without any help.

Zelda’s Research
A/N Okay, so originally this headcanon was going to be in headcanon style, but then it became a fic, so here it is. I could never put together what exactly Zelda was studying, and fics usually made it seem like she was just being silly, trying to get Link to eat a frog that everyone already knew how to use. Everything connects here though, and I cried while wiriting it, because Zelda needs to be reminded constantly and often that she isn’t useless.
Link was trying to be helpful. Zelda said she needed time away before Hyrule’s leaders arrived for the summit meeting, so Link took Zelda out to the mountains. Zelda shivered, so he gave her his wam doublet. Zelda didn’t want to talk about her outburst at Impa that she didn’t have the golden power anymore, so he didn’t ask. Zelda didn’t want to talk about the Calamity, or the future, or the past, or the summit, so they rode in silence.
There was only so much he could do however, when Zelda threw herself off her horse, stumbled but missed crashing into a boulder, and frog jumped to catch a lizard.
“Are you okay?” he yelled, desperately calming their horses from her abrupt exit before swinging himself down beside her. Her horse had already bolted from the unfamiliar rider though. He didn’t wait for her to answer and started checking her over for injuries.
“Yes!” Zelda cheered, the streak of mud on her face seemed to disagree with her, as did Link’s heart rate. “Look what I caught! My studies, before I was forced to stop, indicated that this critter can be used to augment speed. I just absolutely had to catch it before it got away. You said you remembered the time I tried to get to you eat a frog right? Well I had a break through before our trip to the spring of power and realized it needed to be cooked with monster parts before being consumed! Oh, this is so exciting. Do you happen to have a cooking pot on you? Wait…it had to be a particular kind of pot made with Hylian flint…”
Link breathed out slowly. Only this princess would risk breaking her neck in the name of science.
“I know what a hightail lizard is,” Link said slowly, taking the lizard from her and pulling out the three others he was carrying to show her. He put them all away and pulled out a potion bottle, “This is an elixir made from a hightail lizard. Now, no more throwing yourself from horses okay? You have a physical body again, and it can get hurt, and you nearly gave me a heart attack right there. You aren’t allowed to die. Ever.” He said it all as firmly as he could.
“How can you know that? About the elixir I mean,” she asked, completely ignoring his warning.
Link groaned, “It’s in the compendium. Not only that, it’s common knowledge. Any traveler or child could tell you the same thing.”
“Let me see!” Zelda demanded, “I’ve been trying to translate that infuriating compendium for three years! Half of the letters were missing, the rest were in a dialect of Sheikah that was lost to memory seven thousand years ago!”
Well, that made sense. Considering she had the sheikah slate without runes on it, he had always wondered what she was studying and doing with it besides taking pictures.
“The compendium is in modern Hylian now,” Link said, pulling it up for her and showing it. The look on her face was somewhere between anger and wonder, “but like I said, everyone just knows.”
“How did they know though? None of that was known 100 years ago. It was the stuff of fairy tales. And of course the slate had translation abilities in it the entire time” Zelda said, grumbling the last bit. She stood up straight and shoved the slate at him. “Change of plans, I want to get to Robbie. I entrusted him with all my notes, translations, and ideas.”
“Er, is it that important? We need to make sure we’re back in Kakiriko before the representatives arrive,” Link said, wondering where this demanding Zelda had come from. They would barely be able to make it back to Kakirko before nightfall now that they would have to share a horse on the return journey.
“I need to know what he did with my notes, because it sounds like…” Zelda’s eyes unfocused, she took a breath, then refocused on him. She was smiling, and there were tears in her eyes. “Yes. Yes, it is that important,” she said, her voice cracking. She looked like she did when she was first freed from the Calamity, when she asked if he knew her. Link the same panic came back at the thought of her crying, happy tears or not.
“Alright!” Link said, jumping closer to her, “Is it important enough to be incorporeal for a few seconds?”
Zelda nodded. He slid the slate onto his belt and helped her onto his horse, with his arms around her, he pushed towards Akkala.
They came across the shrine at the riverside stables, and Link explained that he didn’t know if the slate could take two people, but if it couldn’t, she could travel to Robbie’s lab alone to speak with him. He would wait at this shrine for her to come back. He highlighted the symbols very clearly for her, and made her repeat the plan and directions back to him.
“Well, get close to me then,” she said, stepping so that her back was pressed against his chest, “if all your things travel with you, skin contact should be enough to transport the both of us. Hold on tight.” Link gulped as he found his arms full of princess. Apparently, though she had been awkward with her body since she sealed the Calamity, she was relearning the joys of skin contact.
He eventually tightened his arms around her waist, and he must have imagined her smelling him, just before she pressed the symbol for Robbie’s research lab.
They both dissolved and arrived together. Zelda stumbled out of his hold right away though, and threw up on the trash heap outside of the lab. He held her hair back and winced every time she retched.
“Better?” he asked, a minute after she stopped, and he almost pulled out some hearty durain simmered fruit before he realized he should ask first. (He hadn’t the first time and Zelda was currently trying to condition him out of the habit of shoving food at her when he thought something was wrong.)
“Goddesses,” she croaked, wiping her mouth on her hand, “That was terrible.”
“What’s all the ruckus?” a voice called, “I told you kids not to use my back yard for your parties anymore, not if you don’t have any decent mus—”
Zelda and Link turned at the same time, and Robbie’s mouth dropped open.
“My apologies, old friend. Shrine travel doesn’t seem to agree with me,” she said, forcing herself to stand up. Link kept an arm around her, and she seemed to accept the aid.
“Princess?” Robbie’s voice croaked. He bowed first to her, then rushed forward and threw his arms around her. “Princess! My dear friend. Come inside, I’m so happy to see you.”
“I’ve missed you too, old friend,” she said softly, then let Robbie pull her inside, with Link awkwardly shuffling beside her, still supporting her.
Robbie started telling her everything then. How he knew Link could do it, and he’s been helping Link all along. How far he’s gotten with Cherry and what he’s discovered about guardians. How he had a wife and son.
“How could you have a son?” Zelda managed to tease, “You always swore that your Cherry would be the only woman in your life.”
“Cherry still is, it seems like,” Jerrin responded, with a friendly glare at her husband, who just laughed and helped Jerrin pull up some chairs.
“Oh, I’ve missed you Zelda,” Robbie said, as they all settled with some tea and in front of the fire. “I had hoped I would live to see you again when I saw the Calamity leave the castle, but I feared that your trial meant your death.”
“The goddesses were kind enough to return me how I was,” Zelda said, smiling. “However, before we discuss anything further, I have an important matter to ask you about.” Link watched Zelda closely, and she got that heartbreakingly hopeful look again, even as her hands stared fidgeting with her teacup. “I’m sorry, but I just had to know,” she said, “Robbie, did you…I mean…Link said everyone knew about cooking insects with monster parts. Did my research…Did I do…” her voice grew thick as she tried to get the question out.
Robbie smiled and took Zelda’s free hand between his own, stopping her fidgeting. “Yes, Princess Zelda of Hyrule. I took your work and put the final touches on it before sending it to every town and providence, a week before your birthday. I had hoped to have some positive news for you; should the Spring of Wisdom not unlock your power. Hylians, Zora, Rito, Gerudo, Goron, and Sheikah knew about making elixirs and preparing meals the way you described to bring out the special effects, and had begun experimenting when Calamity struck. Your years of research and translation were not wasted, as I can say with no doubt in my mind that the work Zelda the Scholar did saved her people.” Zelda let out a sob and Robbie continued, “I got letters back for years, people thanking me for publishing your work because they were able to outrun monsters because they had brewed a stamina potion, and were able to save their children from burning villages because of strength potions and fireproof elixirs. Those years were anything but wasted.”
Zelda was crying, and Link shot Robbie a panicked look, but he just shook his head fondly, so Link let her cry.
“Thank-thank you,” Zelda said, giving a watery smile. “I needed to hear that.”
“No, thank you, Princess,” Robbie said, giving a sad smile, “It was all your work. It did a lot more good than mine, in the end. Ancient technology is all well and good, but reviving as many guardians as I did only brought death. You focused on Hyrule itself, and brought hope. Hyrule will be forever in your debt. Unfortunately, since the King had decreed you weren’t allowed to pursue your studies, I decided to publish your work under the penname Adlez, in hopes of sparing you his ire. I tried to spread word that it was their princess who had discovered the secrets to Hyrule’s flora and fauna, but the origins of the discovery of so much were so secondary to the uses themselves, then the uses became common knowledge and people forgot there was a time they didn’t know. Only some of the Sheikah know that it was your work, your Highness. I pray you will forgive me.”
“My people survived,” Zelda laughed through her tears, “You more than earned your forgiveness.”
               “I only helped,” Robbie said.
“It’s getting late, you two will be staying the night,” Jerrin said, standing up and leaving no room for argument. “We will put you in Grante’s old room. I’ll go make it up for you.”
Cherry also decided to make herself known in that moment by blowing a circuit.
“Familiar name known! Princess Zelda! Bzzt!” which had Robbie scrambling towards the forge.
Link took this moment of privace to place a hand on Zelda’s shoulder. She jumped, then leaned into the touch, smiling at him, wiping her tears away.
“Hey, are you okay?” he checked.
“I’m so much more than okay,” Zelda said, smiling at him. “I berated myself for those first fifty years, as much as I could while still keeping the Calamity at bay, thinking that if I had only awakened my powers sooner, if I had been willing to trust in my feelings and let myself love people, maybe things could have been different. That those years of research had been wasted because the slate had always been for you, I had just been stubborn, and the King had made sure that any useful discoveries I made had died with him when he forbade my research. Then I let it go, because I needed to focus on faith and hope to keep the Calamity back. But my work saved people, Link. Just plain Zelda saved her people too.”
Link smiled because he understood exactly what that meant to her, and she squeezed his hand on her shoulder. Princess Zelda, without her golden power from the goddess, was just as worthy of her throne. Just Princess Zelda, did so much, she could do the rest of it too.
Then Link cocked his head, “You know, if the King hadn’t stopped your research on that very day, you wouldn’t have given it to Robbie, and he wouldn’t have published it before your birthday.”
“Everything happened exactly the way it was supposed to,” Zelda agreed, understanding shining in her eyes and smile, “Hyrule survived, and the Calamity destroyed.”
“That was all you Zelda,” Link said, giving a small smile, “I just helped a little.”
She laughed, and it was a good sound.
Link sent a prayer of thanks to the goddesses that he could be helpful.

Seito plays BOTW (Day idk anymore)
I’ve been lazy and haven’t been updating this, so it’s long.
Lost Woods is a miserable puzzle and if I didn’t know what was inside of it, I might have not had the patience for it.
That said, I picked up the master sword halfway through the game lolololol
Have I mentioned that this version of Zelda is my favorite? BECAUSE SHE IS. She’s a dork, she needs a hug, she has to deal with crippling amount of insecurity and she keeps going. I need like 100000x fics that just deal with her, her relationship with her father and her friendship with Link.
Finally made it to the Rito Village!!
Now, Rito’s are cool and all, but damn Raveli is a smug jerk.
YOU SHOULD HAVE PUNCHED HIM IN THE FACE LINK.
Actually Teba is a bit of a jerk too, but his kid is cute and as a father he’s not so bad. (basically when he isn’t letting his temper get the better of him.)
Razz is amazing though. I love Razz.
Look, I don’t know if was by accident or because it gives them more colorful personalities, but it’s like all the Rito that you had to talk to for quests kinda came across as a little too smug or arrogance or a little whiny. All the NPCs you don’t have to talk to are really polite and nice. It’s just interesting. Because you also see how a lot of Zora are well happy and polite, Gorons are like big friendly, straight to the point and energetic people too.
Huh, I wonder if the Rito evolved from the Skyward Sword birds. Actually where does BOTW take place in the LoZ timeline? Need to look that up.
Raveli might have been a jerk but his Gale special ability thing is utterly amazing and I love it.
Hebra is cold. I don’t like exploring this section too much. Mostly if I go down somewhere I wasn’t supposed to, climbing back up is such a pain. OTL All the shrines in the area are on the ground which why? WHY? Look just put one that top of the highest peak and I’ll be good okay???
Epona is amazing. We love her. My new favorite horse.
Gerudo Town, oh my god. The Gerudo outfit and Link and omg.
FINALLY FOUND THE LAST GREAT FAIRY. All my rupees ;3;
Also of all the big mini bosses, morgula was the easiest to beat. (Actually finally confident enough to start taking down the mini bosses like the stone tanlus and those Hinlox. But those Lynels.... screw those Lynels...)
I have found a fast way to get rupees, I never will run out of arrows again.
But farming for parts for ancient arrows (BASICALLY TAKING DOWN THOSE GUARDIANS) is miserable and I’m not very good at it. -cry- Or I manage it but I don’t gain back enough to justify the lost of supplies used to take down said thing. OTL
But in other news my ability to use perfect guard is rapidly improving from NOT ABLE TO DO IT to CAN TO IT ONE OUT OF TEN TIMES. And maybe die in the process.
@justm3h is right, Tarreny Town Quest was so adorable and amazing and well worth the time it took to run all over the place for the people.
Selective Mute!Link is canon. I mean I knew that and had seen screenshots but I found where you see that in the game itself. Nearly died in the process BUT IT WAS WORTH IT.
Likewise, I have obtained all the captured memories and I think it really was my favorite part of the game.
Though... I wonder how they had gotten Link from the place where he had fallen to the place where he woken up in the beginning of the game. I mean... the two points weren’t even close together. Not to mention that giant cliff that stops them.
Actually travel in the cutscenes is weird. I mean why did they take that route? It’s very roundabout. Where were they headed that they were there?? Why? Very confused.
I have one divine beast left, all my map regions are unlocked, about 30 shrines left and I can’t believe the progress I’m making haha. This game has been amazing so far. I love Zelda games, but this is the first one I’ve played that made me really feel for the characters, explore the world to its fullest extend and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
(Also I heard about DLC and just the artwork alone is beautiful)

STZ IV: Part 1
Sira-8’s past had come back to haunt it. A planet that had once been miraculously saved from ruin now traveled a one way road to destruction. Only this time, there was no stopping it.
Zelda had finally fallen asleep. She was laid back on a hard wooden bench, with only a few scraps of blankets to keep her warm, her blonde hair rustling slightly with each breath. Link sat on the floor beside her, his back pressed against the middle of the bench. Both arms lay folded over a drawn-up knee, while the other leg stretched out in front of him. Both of the Hylians’ clothes were filthy, and each were desperately underweight. Months of rationing had taken quite a toll on them, and now their food stores were completely spent. Their hardships had started simply enough. The country had gone into an unnaturally long drought; Zelda had been buried knee deep in complaints and sorrows by the common people, meanwhile Link had spent nearly every waking moment searching for an answer, as was his duty as head of the royal guard and as the Hero of Hyrule. But before an answer could be found, disaster struck. The volcano known as Death Mountain, after having been dormant for centuries, erupted violently and without warning. Kakariko and Goron City were destroyed instantly. The water-starved fields and forests were consumed by fire.
Everything between castle town and the Gerudo desert had been wiped out in a single, tragic night. The air and water were poisoned with ash for weeks after. The drought became so severe that there was soon no longer enough fresh water for the Zora to survive. Only a month later, the Gerudo fell to a fatal, swift, and merciless epidemic. The few that remained were moved into the castle, where one by one, the survivors died from starvation, dehydration, or illness. The overwhelming number of dead continued to grow, until Link and Zelda were the only two left. Link had led them to the lab as a last hope, hoping that water would still remain in the old aquarium. The gamble pulled off, but for how long? Sooner or later the water would run out, and then they would finally be put to rest. Link opened his eyes, trying to put the bleak future from his mind. With a quiet sigh, he sifted through his overly-light satchel, wondering if there was anything to ease his boredom within. His fingers brushed something cold, and he stopped short. Slowly he pulled the strange object out, and stared at it. In his hand, light shimmered off the metal surface of the communicator Pavel had given him nearly four years ago. As he held it, his memory replayed the commander’s words to him. “Think of it as a last hope” It would not be the first time he had tried to reach his old friend since things had spiraled so terribly out of control. Each attempt had done little but give him a small, feeble bit of hope, that extinguished when the days became months and nothing came of it. Part of him didn’t want to try anymore, but…Zelda had fallen ill. And they were almost out of water. If it didn’t work this time, they probably didn’t have enough time left for him to be worried about the inevitable disappointment. Quietly he opened it, hoping the little chirping it made would not wake the Princess. “Commander Pavel Chekov,” he said into it, feeling awkward. “Pavel, are you there? It’s Link…” He waited for a response, biting his lip after a moment. “I wish you’d told me how to work this,” he murmured softly. His hope was slipping away. “Pavel, we need help. The planet’s in shambles…there’s nothing left. Everyone’s dead…” he took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. “Everyone except Zelda and I, but I don’t know how much time we have left. The water’s running out…” The Hero of Time swallowed thickly, his throat dry. “If anyone can hear me, please…please, say something. I need to know if there’s still a chance…” Nothing but silence answered his pleas. Just as every attempt that came before this one. Slowly, Link closed it, feeling as though his last hope had been in vain. *** “Sir,” Lieutenant commander Kyle said to Commander Chekov, “I’m receiving a signal, sir. It’s very faint.” Chekov sat up a bit straighter in the command chair. The long evening shift had been quite dull til now, and he was grateful for the change. “From where?” “Hard to tell sir, but it’s addressed to you.” “Well, put it on speakers,” Chekov ordered, a little surprised. “Aye sir, here it is.” There was a blast of static before a faint, yet familiar voice filled the bridge. “Commander Pavel Chekov….Pavel, are you there? It’s Link…” there was a pause. “I wish you’d told me how to work this.” Chekov smiled faintly, but a wave of dread was slowly moving through him. His longtime friend did not sound well, and his tone suggested that something was very, very wrong. “Pavel, we need help. The planet’s in shambles…there’s nothing left. Everyone’s dead…” There was another pause; the despair in the Hylian seemed to effect everyone within the chilled room. “…everyone except Zelda and I,” his voice wavered the slightest bit, “but I don’t know how much time we have left. The water’s running out…” Another brief pause. “If anyone can hear me, please….please say something. I need to know if there’s still a chance…” Anything more was drowned out in another blast of static. “That’s all, sir,” Kyle said softly. “It’s at least three days old.” Chekov was horrified. After a moment, his mind started groping desperately for a solution. “How far away are we from Sira-8?” he asked. “Five days at maximum warp, sir,” he replied. “We’re too far away,” he mumbled. There had to be some way to get to them before… “Mr. Beach, which ship is closest to Sira-8?” Said officer consulted the computers. “Enterprise,” was the reply. Pavel breathed a sigh of relief. “Alright, I know what to do. First off; Helm, maximum warp. Let’s go!” “Would that be wise, sir?” Beach asked. He received a glare for his troubles. “I mean, Chief Sarjay has been having trouble with the engines. Wouldn’t warp factor five be safer?” “Fine, you win,” Pavel sighed. “Warp five it is.” “When are you going to tell the captain of this…change in plans?” Beach questioned. “I will tell him in the morning. Now, Mr. Kyle, I need you to record a message for me.” *** “Admiral, I’m receiving a message from the U.S.S. Reliant,” Uhura announced, her voice betraying her excitement. “Really?” Kirk asked. She nodded. Feeling the eyes of all the cadets, he said, “On screen.” The viewer wavered, and an image of Chekov sitting in a command chair appeared. “It’s Pavel!” Sulu exclaimed with a grin. “Admiral Kirk, this is Pavel Chekov. Greetings from the Reliant.” The commander’s smile faded, and Kirk felt a bit of foreboding come over him. Something was wrong. “I regret that this is not a pleasure call. I have received an urgent plea for help from an acquaintance of ours; Link.” Kirk straightened in his chair a little, leaning a bit closer to the screen. “Here is the message we received,” Pavel told them. A moment later, Link’s faint, weakened voice filled the bridge. All the senior officers listened in horror, and the cadets with deep interest. When the message ended, Pavel continued gravely. “We are too far away to offer assistance. You Admiral, are not. Please, as a personal favor to me, go help them. We are on our way, but due to engine trouble, we may not make it in time…” Chekov’s voice faded, and he sighed. “Please reply with intentions. Reliant out.” And the screen returned to black. Kirk leaned back in his chair, and surveyed the faces on the bridge. Sulu’s seemed stunned, Uhura held a delicate hand over her mouth in horror, Scotty shook his head sadly, while Spock consulted his computer terminal. “Opinion, Mr. Spock?” he asked. “Commander Chekov is correct. We are only three light years away. I suggest we go, Admiral.” There was a murmur of agreement amongst the crew. “Very well then. Lieutenant Saavik, please plot course for Sira-8.” “Aye aye, sir. Plotting,” she said with full efficiency of her Vulcan heritage. “Mr. Sulu, best speed,” Kirk told the eager helmsman. “You got it! …sir.” “And Uhura, please prepare to record our response,” the Admiral commanded as the Enterprise surged ahead. *** “Sir, I’m getting a message from the Enterprise,” Kyle informed Captain Terrell. “On screen,” the captain ordered. “Erm…it’s not for you sir, it’s for Commander Chekov,” Kyle stated sheepishly. Chekov gestured to Kyle, who nodded and put the message on. The Commander couldn’t help but smile as Admiral Kirk’s image filled the viewer screen. “Commander Chekov, it’s been awhile,” Kirk said. Sulu, who was seated at the helm, began to wave and mouth some obscure words. His antics were cut short by a threatening look from Spock. Kirk smiled as he continued. “And I look forwards to catching up to you when you get here.” “Yes!” Pavel cheered. “We’re currently only two hours away from Sira-8, and we are prepared for the worst. Give my regards to your Captain. See you soon, Kirk out.” The screen shimmered back to the stars, as Kirk’s image faded. Pavel grinned broadly at Terell, who only shrugged.
