Diamont grips the book he is studying a bit tighter. The words spoken are of a coldness he is not entirely unused to. No, no... this is familiar. Eerily familiar, oddly familiar. Almost comforting. They lack any affection, but a part of him knows she means well. As well as she possibly can, he guesses.

There is a nod, a moment of thought. Diamont does not think of himself as fearless, just... numb to it. Numb to a lot of things, a lot of concept. Horrors untold and horrors unknown to most people that the sorcerer just brushes aside.

"How did you manage to free yourself?" From your fear, from the shackles that bind you? "And how did you control it? So you would not succumb to emotion?" These are very silly questions. He knows it. But Diamont is also aware that asking is better than to keep his doubts to himself, and that this visit will not last for long.

It makes him wonder why. She knows that he knows. That knowledge is her gift and her legacy, and he is to do with it as he wishes. Instead of distancing himself from it, he embraces the unknown fully. And it is not like... he has any experience with this kind of thing.

He feels like a child, fumbling around and barely able to walk. It's annoying. If he did not want her presence, would he have asked for it? Called for it? There is a buzz in his head that Diamont rarely is witness to, excitement that runs through his arms and his entire body. It's enough to make the corner of the pages float a little bit towards him, responding to the static electricity that he unknowingly produces.

"Are there... things you are scared of too?" Hard to imagine a woman like her being scared of anything. But there must be. Something, something there. "I am not trying to figure out your weaknesses." Diamont adds promptly, knowing how this one usually goes. You ask about weak points, and next thing you are stabbing all of these right places. He looks down to the book again. Her Codex. He started adding his own notes next to her.

His handwriting stops being an equal copy of his father's, and it becomes hers. What a weird feeling. What a weirder thought. What an odd realization. Less controlled, more elegant. But still himself, not her and not Him. Just. Diamont. Countless nights have been poured over studying what every single thing she wrote could mean. Comparing notes, comparing... everything.

He has something to work off of, this time. And not simply going out there and figuring how things work. It's a little comforting. "I just want to know. Even Gods must fear something."

I love that all of the dungeon meshi crew are complicated and have difficult to love components. #But Izutsumi is a particular kind of hard to love. I foresee a lot of people being turned off by her abrasiveness and lack of teamwork. #She is very self-centered and openly goes against what the party agrees on. #She's a picky eater in a story that is 50% about eating good and healthy food! #It is in part about her growth but admittedly even *then* she remains rather true to her self-centeredness. #Even though she isn't as nice or funny or compassionate as the others...Izutsumi is still someone worth loving. #Even the more difficult people are someone worth loving. #And those people in turn are people who have something and someone they love. #She may be a girlcat but she is the most human of them all. #I hope that if you are an anime only watcher and are feeling put off by her at the moment; you'll give her a chance. #By the way: *yes* I worked very hard to draw that skateboard pose. It was worth it. #EDIT: HAPPY 500th POST OF POORLY-DRAW-MDZS!!! What a comic to commemorate the milestone with!
