Some minor things I'm thinking about/predictions for season 3~
-some more (pretty unedited) things I think could happen + predictions I don't necessarily hope to happen; + talking out some frustrations I personally had (if u don't want to read anything partially negative)
Missy & Amerie friendship. It would be good to expand to some less visited friendships. We got a hint of Amerie & Missy once again and I could see them talking even more nxt szn.
Sasha and Quinni are going to be working together nxt szn, and I can already see how the writers might try to rekindle something, but I don't want that, obviously. I could see them making Sasha develop feelings again only for Quinni to turn her down or it could be an opportunity for Sasha to actually apologize after some reflection as they continue to go their separate ways romantically.
Ant has to find out Harper also made the map, right? (that's the direction it's heading in??)
I don't care either way, but if Rowan wasn't just a 1 season and done type of character, I could see them trying to explore a mental health storyline, and separate from that make him more likeable/building friendships with anyone but Amerie.
Critiques of the Season/What I Hope Going Forward
They really missed some opportunities with Harper. It's totally valid for 2 childhood besties to grow apart in some ways and come back with an even greater and more mature connection. Instead, they just had Darren and Quinni adopt her into the group when I wish they would've spent a season of her developing her own friendships and building up her relationships that will be beneficial going forward.
which brings me to my points: I want Harper and Amerie to spend some time apart next season. I don't want it to be dramatic and I don't want them to have a fallout. They can actually be friends without being attached at the hip, but I don't want the s1 trio to be disrupted when I think that relationship is very special (sorry if this sounds harsh), and feels more organic than Harper's outside of the one that's developing with Cash.
Speaking of relationships: Ant & Harper feels underdeveloped to me. They could be a great couple. I wish they spent more time this season giving them individual arcs, but I think next season they kind of need to go through something dramatic to have the kind of break-through I'm wanting from their characters. They're kind of boring to me rn (I'm so sorry Harthony fans). They could end up together or not; I'm just not sold on their story yet.
New couples-I like the development stage of new couples/couples you don't expect. Give Quinni a gf, ofc. Switch up some of the dynamics. Relationships can be a means to another end, and it doesn't have to = the previous being bad. I don't want a love triangle, though; let them grow without the drama.
They could show the journey of Missy dealing with a toxic man, or they could show Spider/Missy grow together (I really don't care); I just want development for both of them individually and their own separate arcs regardless (especially Missy-he did have his own large arc this season). I actually think it would be cool to show the slow effects of how things add up and trauma causing some unhealthy behaviors with Spider (it doesn't have to make him bad; he's like 18 and anyone could grow from a failed high school relationship/become a really great person, but I just don't feel awe when I see their scenes...personally).
I didn't add this point with them on my other post, but I kind of want Darren and Cash to each have new romances/flings. I know there is love there, but I think they need to find themselves independent of one another. Their relationship very much feels like they grew up together and prematurely decided they belong together what with Cash's long secret crush (which is fine, but..); it is absolutely cute, though their incompatibility and continuous communication problems need to be explored/they need to mature.

Party Animals
Summary: you were drunk on a party and doing crazy things, next morning you think you made a huge mistake, but ends up being that it was the push you needed.
Pairing: Spencer "Spider" White x reader
Warnings: drunk people
A/N: conmemoring the release of season two of this amazing show (Heartbreak High) i have the need of writting about Spider and Ant, so expect about them the next days.
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Like always, Spider was being the soul of the party, drinking, dancing, laughing and being an absolutely pain in the ass. He was going around with Ant while you were in your corner drinking. He had been giving you small glances all night, it was frustrating because he will surely get to you and be an absolute asshole.
As if he had read your mind, Spider started to get close to where you are. You can't deny that he looks really hot with the lights of the club and that look on his face. It looked almost like he was possesed while he walks towards you. His eyes didn't leave yours once he notices you watching him.
After what looked like an eternity, he laid himself on the wall next to you, he was probably drunk, just like you... maybe that's why you can't decide if you want to go and ignore him or stay here and see what happens.
"Hi." what a gentlemen you thought.
"Hi, why are you here?"
"Ant is my friend, he throws the party."
"I mean next to me, asshole, you don't quite like me."
"That's not right," he is looking at you so serious that you feel he is looking into your soul, "I may treat you a little bad but i treat everyone like that, the other thing is that you are different."
"Wow, that's your strategy to try to have sex with me?" clearly alcohol is kicking you both.
"Maybe."
"And why do you think i will be with you?"
"Nothing, but trying it's free and i know you wouldn't do it in any other situation."
His face is closer to you every second, looking to your lips with a dreamy glance. For the first time you considered kissing him, you already thought about it but know you were starting to see it as a real posibility. You both were now really close, you can almost feel Spider's heat body, he was radiating an exciting warmth.
You don't know why but started to lift your hand and touch slowly his face, he closed his eyes almost instantly, savoring every second of your touch. Suddently his hand wrapped your waist and push you fully on to his body, now your lips are brushing and your breaths start to mix together.
"Tomorrow we can forget about this," he said before smashing his lips to yours.
His lips were soft and tasted sweet, you didn't spected that at all since you two were drinking for so long. Your hands running all over each other's bodies. Suddently you were trapped between the wall and Spider's embracing body. His lips traveling all the way up and down your neck, you were thankfull that the music was drowning your sounds.
You continued like that for a bit longer, lips pressed and bodies grinding onto each other, you didn't want that to end but suddently Darren appeared on scene.
"(Y/N)!!! we have to go, Amelie got us in problems," both of you were slow at processing what Darren said, "let's go, if you go now i won't say about this."
Darren's face showed their disgust really well, but hearing those words made you restart you breain and realize your actions. You got out of Spider's grip while he was still in shock and runned with Darren. At the end you didn't know if you run because of Amelie or because of your actions.
-----------------------------------------------
You spent all weekend coping with the embarrasment of what you've done and when the monday came, you decided to avoid Spider. That worked for three hours until he cornered you outside class.
"Hi."
"Hi, i need to go," this time you couldn't get away from him.
"No, we need to talk."
"You said we could forget it and i hope to do that, because we were drunk and we made mistakes."
"I don't consider it a mistake," you couldn't believe him but he was looking at you again, with those glowy eyes, "I know what i said but it was mostly to get you to kiss me but i... i can't forget about it and i don't want to do it because i dream about it a lot."
"You are saying you already thought about it?" his face was really red.
"Ye-Yeah..." he apparently doesn't know how to continue, you kissed his cheek, that was the only thing you thought of doing.
"I dreamed about it too." his face lightened up, before passing to a prideful smirk.
"So we can go out and take it where we left off."
"No, we will take it right and slow, and if we are going to start dating or something, you need to stop being a pain in the ass."
"I will do it if you give me a incentive to do it."
The bell rang and you surely know that your friends will be seeking for you, you kiss his cheek again and give him a little peck on the lips that left him static on place.

Just finished watching Heartbreak High 2, here's my thoughts that no one asked for.
Warning, spoilers ahead
In no specific order:
I deeply appreciated the lack of drama for Harper this season. I was worried, ngl. Also, her enthusiasm for her own house was so cute and relatable. Living in chaotic households (of whatever kind, like going from living with her schizophrenic(?) father to the packed house of her bestfriend... 100% better, but still chaotic) and longing for your little corner of peace... Yup.
Malakai Mitchell the BI ICON that you are
Too bad that his experiences with men always end up badly though
Cash and Darren, my sweet little babies. They better get back together and find a way to make their asexuality and hypersexuality work or I might KILL SOMEBODY
Now, Spider. I've been wanting a redemption arc for him since that scene with Amerie at the concert in S1. Honestly I thought he and Amerie would end up confronting but the storyline with Missy was equally good. Completely unexpected but good.
I also liked that they give us a background story of why he is such an asshole. Like somebody else said (can't remember who it was sorry, if I remember I'll credit), would've been better if it was something more realistic like bad role models, peer pressure and so on, instead of an unrealistic feminist mom.
That said though, I deeply related to the put-downs and constant criticism from a parent as a reason for his assholishness. It makes you feel like you won't ever be enough, so you might as well be as bad as you can. He is still an asshole tho, I'm not excusing him.
Also liked that they put Missy in an equal position of not being able to overcome her own prejudices
And finally doing it TOGETHER! I'm a sucker for these kind of tropes
I clocked Rowan immediately and picked up on the psycho vibes. Then changed my mind because it seemed like he couldn't possibly have a reason to hate Amerie. And it seemed almost too obvious to me... But when they ruled out Zoe, yeah. It could only be him.
I really hoped that they didn't give Amerie another triangle this season, but the fact that Rowan turned out to be a total psycho made up for the lack of originality
But but... The letter 😭 next season better start with a text to Malakai from Amerie.
Finally, IS IT ENOUGH OF TRAUMATIC EVENTS FOR AMERIE AND HARPER?? Let my girls alone, thank you!

Happy Halloween y’all 🧡🖤🎃👻
Here’s some Partners in Crime to wrap up spooky season!
Vampire Weekend
There’s a lot of downtime to being an Auror. Way more than Ron would have expected before he started hanging around the department two months ago to research his next novel.
Harry, it seems, is always busy as the Head Auror, but if the team isn’t actively working a case, they’re most often sitting around the DMLE just waiting for the next one. Dean and Seamus fill the time with gobstones, exploding snap, and whatever else catches their amusement in any given moment. “If we don’t have work to do, that means no one’s dead,” Seamus had said with a shrug when Ron brought it up.
The lead detective in the unit, though, never seems content to just relax. Ron has watched Hermione help other Aurors with their own paperwork, clean the office top to bottom more than once…watched her practice defensive spells that one day that he had followed her down to the Ministry gym because he’d been sure that was just an excuse to skive off and go do something fun. It wasn’t.
Hermione Granger is an unstoppable force of nature, and Merlin help anyone who chooses to get in her way.
Ron needs a lot of help, these days.
He’s learned at least as much about her in the downtime as he has from watching her solve homicides, but one thing has been consistent: Hermione works too hard. And she hasn’t exactly taken kindly to his suggestions that she take a break every once in a while, as well-meaning as his advice is. He’s pretty sure she thinks his goal is to distract her or pump her full of questions for his book, but he really does just want her to slow down a bit. How she’s not completely burnt-out at the end of every day is one of the mysteries about her that he hasn’t yet solved.
Hopefully, he can convince her to cut loose for just one night and come to his Halloween party this coming weekend, but he hasn’t worked up the gumption to ask her yet. He’s worried she’ll bite his head off, but hoping that she’ll enthusiastically agree and show up in a skimpy costume. Realistically, though, he’s expecting a polite decline that falls somewhere in between the two extremes.
“You can go home, you know.” Hermione’s voice startles him out of his thoughts, and he turns to look at her. She has one eyebrow raised in amusement and a smirk playing on the edge of her lips, making him wonder just how zoned out he was in his thoughts. “You look nearly bored to death. You don’t have to sit around the DMLE while we’re not working a case.”
“Not bored, just thinking,” Ron defends himself. “Besides, if I go home, how will I know when we do have a case?”
“I’ll owl you.”
As much as she doesn’t like him being here, he doesn’t really trust that to be true, but before he can argue, something else draws his attention. The Muggle phone that sits on Hermione’s desk, which may as well be a paperweight for how often he’s seen her use it to make a phone call—exactly never, so far—rings so loudly that it buzzes his eardrums.
“See, if I go home I miss things.”
Hermione rolls her eyes as she reaches for the handset. “You’ve never seen a Muggle phone ring before?”
“Not here. What the hell do Muggles call Aurors for?”
He’s beyond intrigued, but his only answer is a widening of Hermione’s smirk as she picks up the phone. “This is Detective Granger…Oh, hi Darren…I know you are not just calling me to ask how the weather is. I’m only across town.” She shakes her head and shoots a conspiratorial smile at Ron, as if he should be equally amused by Darren’s antics. “No, we’re free at the moment. What have you got?”
Hermione listens while her mouth twists into a deeper and deeper frown over whatever this Darren bloke has to say. Ron is sure he’s making the same face, only his consternation is over wondering who the hell this Darren bloke is. He’s never seen Hermione with anyone, and she’s never mentioned a boyfriend, but he’s also never heard her use that voice before—friendly, teasing, the opposite of the business-like tone he’s used to.
“Are you sure?” she asks finally. “I mean, that’s impossible unless—you’re kidding…Okay, we’ll be right there. What’s the address?” Hermione scribbles his response into the little notebook she carries everywhere while Ron cranes his neck to see what she’s writing. “Great. See you in a few minutes.”
She hangs up the phone and calls to Dean and Seamus as she reaches for her coat. “Who’s Darren? Where are we going?” Ron fires off as he prepares to follow her. “What’s impossible?” And seriously, who the hell is Darren?
“You might want to grab a fresh quill,” Hermione says with a grin. “I think you’re going to like this one.”

And Here's What You Really Missed: Jennifer Aspen & Acafellas
Going forward - this is going to be kind of how I tackle these recaps. I wasn't able to listen to the Jennifer Aspen episode before Acafellas came out, so sometimes a few episodes might be merged together.
On bigger episodes - like interviews with Chris or Darren or something, I'll make sure to do more of a transcript. Hope this works for everyone!
***
-Discussed motherhood, Kevin never wants children cause he can barely take care of himself.
-Auditioned for Terri - Ryan wrote the part of Kendra for her.  Was really appreciative of being cast, and knew the show was going to be fantastic. She was also really sad when her time was up on the show, but knew the show was turning towards the younger characters.
-Wasn’t really aware of Twitter until Chris Colfer told her she needed to be on it.  Kevin says he’s the one who got everyone involved in Twitter
-Lots of love for the characters of Terri and Kendra (Jennifer wants to assure everyone she’s not that dumb even if she continues to play dumb characters on TV.) Also mention a spin off for Terri and Kendra.
-Lots of conversation around favorite lines and scenes in the show that involve Kendra (I’m sure you probably know most of these - but the Dr. Wu scene is probably the most infamous.)
-Jennifer got on Glee Wiki to do a little research before coming on the show - and was amazed at the info there. (Me too, dude, me too - I use it all the time.)
-Discussion around Jennifer and Kristen Chenoweth’s production company - they all gush about how wonderful Kristen Chenoweth is.
-Jennifer brings up working with Steve Carell (in relation to a discussion about how not to laugh while working) and Kevin brings up working on The Office - and how he was scowling through his cameo because he needed to not laugh.  Kristen Chenoweth taught them to think about dead puppies.
-Her one regret about Glee is that she never got to sing.
-Kevin comments at one point that most people, when they remember Glee, remember season 1.  - to which I find interesting.  I’m sure to the cast and crew that was /the/ time to remember.  And I wonder if a general audience feels that way, too?  But I think Glee’s biggest spike was Season 2.  Old School fandom probably remembers Season 2 over everything else.
-Have mixed feelings Acafellas [not a huge fan of Will’s story line -- same, my dudes, same] but, they like the b-plots, such as Kurt coming out [also same].
-When this aired - they were down in Australia for the press tour - Kevin went to a strip club for the first time (Jenna was there - but they don’t specify what kind of strip club).  It was the first time they really felt like they were getting famous.  Admit to being kids living it up and partying and having to figure out how to cure hangovers so to pass breathalyzer tests the next day before events.
-They’re changing up their podcast format of recapping and going to talk about things storyline by storyline [Yes good - I think going through scene by scene wasn’t working for you guys - so I’m ready for this.]
-Briefly mention Victor Garber and Debra Monk as Will’s parents - mostly to say that this the first time they saw big names on the call sheet - so it felt like a big deal.
-Kevin says Will’s plot line may have been inspired by Matthew Morrison’s time singing in a band - and also to give the adults more musical screen time.
-Also, fun gossipy fact for you - apparently John Loyd Young, who played Henri, was dating Lea Michele at the time.  But that was not the reason he was cast.
-They bring up something I’ve been saying for years -- that it may have not been appropriate for teachers and students to be singing I Wanna Sex You Up at a PTA meeting.
-They talk about how big Josh Groban was at the time - and how amazing it was to have him there.  Kevin didn’t get to meet him - and is jealous that Jenna did.
-Kevin says this episode is ‘uncomfortably straight’ and they agree that’s why they don’t like it so much. [Oh my god -- yes, everything about this yes.] They joke that in every musical there’s that one ‘dad song’ - and the acafellas storyline is the show’s ‘dad song’.
-They change to the kids’ story lines - and discuss how they get to see more of Santana (Naya) in the episode.  They really love early Quinn/Santana dynamic.
-They talk a little about filming with Whit Hertford who played Dakota Stanley - and how hilarious he was to work with.
-Fun fact - the vocal adrenaline girl who is helping the other girl getting sick during the scene where they warn New Directions to stay away is Harry Shum Jr’s future wife [did not know that - how cool].
-Cheyenne Jackson was supposed to be Dakota Stanley but he was severely sick and couldn’t do it -- later Ryan wrote him in for season 2.
-Kevin and Jenna state that the Mercedes/Kurt storyline is the best plot in the episode [I agree so hard.]
-Bust Your Windows was written in because Amber (and Kevin) were discussing the song and petitioned for Ryan to do it on the show.  A lot of their dancer friends were in this number - and it’s their favorite moment on the show.
-They talk about Kurt coming out to Mercedes, how great the scene was - especially that he had support, and how big a deal it was at the time.
-They mention that it’s three episodes in a row that Will is shirtless.
-The Dakota Stanley scene was the hardest to shoot because they kept breaking.  They think the ‘I’m taller than you’ comment by Rachel was probably an improv. And it’s the first mention of ‘Frankenteen’.
-Jenna’s favorite scene is the Sue/Cheerios scene at the end -- her favorite quote is when Sue tells the girls to smell their armpits.  [Ew, not my favorite but you do you, Jenna].
-Kevin’s favorite performance was from Debra Monk playing drunk.
-They jokingly start talking about Kevin’s boobies - and then side tangent into possibly doing a side episode about their time on RuPaul’s Drag Race
-They boy didn’t dislike the episode as much as they remembered - and have a lot of fondness for Howard Bamboo.
-Cringiest Moment - all the dancing; the straight dancing (lol), and the general embarrassment that is Acafellas - though they understand that that was kind of the point.  Best Song - Bust Your Windows.  Best Quote - Sue’s smell your armpits one (again, ew).  Best Performance by a Prop: the vomit into the trash can and the rock into the windshield.  Shit that didn’t age well: Sandy Ryerson in general.  Also Dakota Stanley’s insults.  Things that do hold up: Kurt coming out and Mercedes’s response.
-Shit we found on Tiktok: A tiktoker noticed that in Ryan Murphy productions - he tends to name people a certain way in the credits -- like in Glee there was Super Gay Warbler 1, Super Gay Warbler 2, etc.  On other shows he has things like that come up, too.  It’s done intentionally - there’s also a lot of in jokes and silly stuff in the script for the amusement of the cast/crew.
-[That’s pretty much it - they kind of lowkey note that Kevin’s not in the episode very much, but don’t go into why - I can’t remember if they said that why on their Showmance podcast.]
-They’re both super excited about Preggers next week.
[Same.  This episode was super short.  I like the new format - but I wonder if once they get past Season 1 if they’ll dig a little deeper into the episodes since it’ll be newer material they haven’t talked about a hundred times.  The interviews with guests continue to be great.]

BTS episode of Glee (GleeTS)
Written by an actual BTS fan, cross-referenced by an accomplished K-pop stan friend
Working off of a modern understanding of BTS, but using the third season cast because I said so.
There are a couple routes the episode can take, all of them involve boys vs. girls.
1) A mashup episode, which would suck.
2) The boys sing BTS songs and the girls are like “we can do that too, girl power ra ra” and they also sing Bangtan.
3) They pick a composite girl group’s songs to sing and they spend a lot of time talking about how talented the girl group is and how they are a big deal too, actually (either Blackpink or TWICE, for the sake of the story we’re going with TWICE.) The third option feels the most like something they’d actually do.
Kurt would sing Jimin because they’re both small and can hit the highs. Blaine would sing Jungkook because as mediocre a singer as Darren is, he and Jungkook are both objectively the best singers in each group (also this way they can make a lot of klaine/jikook jokes.) Mike would do J-Hope because they’re both the best dancers, Finn as Jin because it rhymes, Sam would do V, Puck as RM, and Artie as Suga. Also Mr. Schue would probably do one of RM’s verses at some point.
The songs they would DEFINITELY do are “Fake Love,” “Boy with Luv” (Quinn on Halsey’s parts,) and “Mic Drop.” The girls do “The Feels,” “Like Ooh-Ahh,” and “Cheer Up.” There’s no textual basis for this, but I want Mercedes to sing the high notes in “Magic Shop” and so I will make it happen.
Tina is basically the writers’ pat-ourselves-on-the-back avatar for this episode. She’s the resident ARMY for obvious reasons (probably Jungkook biased), and she would be the one to assign the boys’ vocal parts, make the “Finn Jin” joke, and make the connection between klaine and jikook *writers pat themselves on the back for seeming hep to the fandom jive*. Sam would say “hey Tina it’s kind of weird that you ship these actual real life men who you don’t know” and Tina would say “YOU DON’T KNOW THEM LIKE I DO” *writers pat themselves on the back for referencing RPF in Glee.* There would also be a joke where someone would ask her what all the lyrics mean and she would say “I don’t know, I’m not Korean” *writers pat themselves on the back for thinking they’ve solved racism.*
Sue thinks that it’s stupid for the kids to sing songs that aren’t in English, because to her America is the only country that matters. She hijacks the projected subtitles during the club’s Diversity Day performance of “Blood Sweat and Tears” and changes them so it looks like the club is singing really crass and offensive songs which are also Korean propaganda. A hush falls over the crowd. The New Directions insist that that isn’t what they were singing but…they don’t know for sure. They don’t know the lyric translations. What if they truly have been brainwashed?
Cut to the next week. BTS and K-pop have been banned from McKinley. Rachel complains about racism and censorship and makes a comparison to banned books. The rest of the club shrugs because maybe the school was right and they were singing bad stuff. Kurt pipes up from the back of the classroom. He’s googled the lyrics and they’re not rude at all. They’re actually quite touching. (Please note: it takes the ENTIRE EPISODE for someone to look up the lyrics.)
Will tells the kids that it doesn’t matter what the words mean in English, what matters is that the music speaks to them regardless of language and isn’t that what music is all about. He approaches Figgins and Sue and pulls out Rachel’s argument about censorship and banned books. The Holocaust is mentioned. BTS is returned to the school.
Episode ends with the entire cast singing “We Are Bulletproof: The Eternal” and reminiscing about how far they’ve come as a club.

My friend @sunlightsymphony has made a beautiful podfic of Lonesome Road - it’s a joy to listen to.  This angsty Zimbits fic with a happy ending is one of my favorites.  I wrote it for the Heartbreak Fest in 2017, so please note the tags/tw.  Enjoy the podfic, it’s amazing!
Summary:  After rehab, Jack leaves home, unable to face his parents and the legacy he failed to uphold. He gets work as a truck driver and enjoys the relative solitude of it for a few years, until the day he picks up a hitch-hiking runaway from Georgia.

I’m not sure if anyone is still following me for SC content, but my new story is now posting on A03!  Chapter 1 is here - I’ll be posting every other day or so, and will post again on Tumblr when it is complete.  You can read the first story in the series here: One Night in Milwaukee.  Please reblog and spread the love, and thank you for reading!
Summary:  Patrick is hiding something from David, and if he’s being honest, David’s hiding something too. It’s making them both miserable. When Marcy asks them to go to the Brewers’ house in Florida as a favor, David agrees. Maybe a week in the sunshine will help them find their way back to each other.

Lighthouse Tavern
I couldn’t help myself - here’s my take on the inevitable Ed/Stede post-Season 1 reunion.  Read on A03 here.  And please reblog and spread the love!
⚓️
It’s a slow night in the bar.  Ed occupies himself drying glasses and giving the ever-sticky counter another half-hearted swipe.  He wishes the group of increasingly drunk regulars in the back would leave already, so that he could go home and be done with his day.  Although he’ll just have to get up the next morning and do the same thing over again, so it really doesn’t make much difference.
It’s been almost two years since he was shipwrecked off the coast of this small Caribbean island north of Barbados.  Ed’s bar is a simple place, not infamous like Spanish Jackie’s, but appreciated by the fishermen who stop by to forget their troubles.  He doesn’t water the liquor - much - and he doesn’t try to give advice.  He just serves drinks.
Ed doesn’t see many of the people he used to know.  Izzy disappeared after the shipwreck, and most of the crew members that survived didn’t want anything to do with Ed.  It was just as well, Ed had realized quickly, because he didn’t have to try to be anything anymore - not what Izzy wanted, not what Stede’s crew wanted, nothing.  He could just be Ed, a guy who wanted to run a bar.
Of course that was a joke too.  Running a bar wasn’t particularly interesting, or fun.  Not by himself.
He limps out from behind the bar and begins wiping down the tables, hoping that the group in the back will take the hint.  His knee is hurting more than usual tonight.  He had banged it up good during the shipwreck, turning what was already a bum knee into a permanent problem.  Even more reason to close up and get home before the wind picks up.
Finally the last patrons leave, the least wrecked of them tossing a tip on the table and giving Ed a sloppy wave goodbye.  Ed picks up the coins and their beer glasses, retreating behind the bar once more to close out the till.
After he finishes, he quickly glances around to be sure no one else is hiding in a side booth or passed out under a table, and then withdraws a teacup from a hidden cabinet.  It is a dainty thing, adorned with faded pink roses on the outside and a thin gold band along the rim.  Ed sets it in front of him on the counter as he makes the tea, then adds a small amount of sugar and raises the cup to his lips, holding his pinky finger out just so as he had seen Stede do.
Ed doesn’t hate himself anymore, not like he used to.  His anger at himself and at Stede has long burned out, in the months after he learned of Stede’s death.  He likes to think this nightly ritual is an appropriate way of honoring Stede’s memory, one that his friend would have appreciated.
He’s not sure that Stede would approve of the Lighthouse Tavern.  It’s got crooked floors and mismatched bar stools and a distinct lack of fine fabrics.  Ed’s place is a far cry from the place they had laughed about, Blackbeard’s Bar and Grill with its delicacies and gift shop.  Ed couldn’t bear to name it that, and anyway, Blackbeard is long gone.  But this place is safe, and it’s his, and Ed can at least live out his days here without engaging in yet more violence and mayhem.  If it isn’t exactly what his heart desires, well, he had his chance, and he let it get away from him.
Ed used to wonder why Stede didn’t show up that night, whether he had pushed too hard, or whether Stede decided that the neutered version of Blackbeard that Ed had become wasn’t interesting enough for him.  When he was being honest with himself, he knew it wasn’t the latter.  In their last conversation on the beach, Stede was happy, Ed was sure of it.  Ed knew Stede wasn’t lying when he said that Ed made him happy.
If Stede had then simply gotten scared, scared of committing to a new life with Ed as his unexpected, socially unacceptable partner, well, Ed could understand that.  He could forgive it, even, and he had, although not soon enough.
He still can’t help think about what he might have done instead of fleeing to the <i>Revenge</i> and letting the kraken emerge.  He might have gone to look for Stede, figured out where he had gone.  What would have happened if he had shown up at Stede’s house?  Would Mary have invited him in for a cup of tea, served in delicate china trimmed in gold?  Would Stede have sat outside with him as the stars came out, explaining what had gone wrong?  Would Ed have been able to change his mind about giving up a life with him?
In his long list of regrets, that’s the one that tops them all - that he didn’t go after Stede.
Shaking his head, he finishes his tea and gives the cup a wash, then sets it carefully inside the cabinet.  He doesn’t even have a proper saucer to go with it, or a teaspoon.  But it’s enough to give him a taste of the pageantry that Stede so sweetly taught him.  He smiles, remembering the light and mischief he loved in Stede’s eyes.
Ed is startled by the sound of the door, and curses to himself as he realizes that he forgot to lock it closed.  He quickly checks to make sure his gun is within reach as Jim enters and strides over to the bar.
Jim had shown up here six months ago, mad as hell at Ed until Ed happened to mention that he had a lead on where Jim could find Oluwande and the rest of the pirates Ed had left stranded on a tiny island.  The fact that Jim hasn’t yet stabbed Ed gives Ed some reassurance that his lead panned out.
“Something to drink, mate?” Ed asks, already placing a heavy whiskey glass on the counter.  Jim is soaked through from the rain battering down outside, and Ed is tempted to offer a mug of hot chocolate instead.  But Jim might still try to kill him, and he’s not inclined to make nice just yet.
Jim sets their hat down on the counter and nods towards a bottle.  “That’ll do.”  They drink down the liquid and lean back, fixing Ed with a steady gaze.
“Any luck?”
They both know what Ed is talking about.
“Yup.”  A smile flashes quickly across Jim’s face, hidden almost before Ed can see it.
He doesn’t press.  He doesn’t need to know where Olu is now, or the details of Jim’s life with him.  But he’s glad that they found each other.  They didn’t deserve to be caught in the wake of Ed’s self-loathing.
Jim finishes their drink but doesn’t leave, and the hairs on the back of Ed’s neck bristle.
“You still living in that little shithole house on the cliff?”  Jim asks.
“Fucking rude.”  At least with Jim he doesn’t have to try to interpret any passive aggression.  Just pure aggression.  “And yes.”  The moment stretches, and Jim just stares at him, then lets their gaze wander to the door.  “Something else you wanted to say?”
Jim appears to consider this for a long moment, then shakes their head. “No.”  They put their hat back on, nod curtly at Ed, and leave, their long coat still dripping rainwater.
Ed sighs.  He’s not surprised - never thought that Jim could be a friend, not after everything he did.  Okay, maybe he’s a little disappointed that they didn’t at least stay for a few more minutes.  But being alone is nothing new.  He’s used to it.

Nerd Love
After years of working together, Pete still manages to break you.
Request: “Hi! Can I get a Pete imagine where you guys work on SNL together and you have few skits together and during one of them you can’t stop laughing”
Pete Davidson x Reader
Warnings: Cursing
Word Count: 2237
Tumblr media
“Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” You hear Kate and the host of the week announce before Lorne motions that the cameras had cut for commercial break. You and Pete had a sketch together in exactly 12 minutes and 45 seconds, and you were trying to cool your nerves.
You loved your job, writing on SNL was something you had dreamed of since you were in middle school, and now it was your reality. Of course, it was hard, the hours were long and the work was demanding. But having Pete by your side made it all bearable.
You had met on your first day, getting hired one season after him. You two were deemed the “babies” of the cast because you were the youngest, so naturally you got paired up. A lot.
At first it bothered you that you only really ever worked with one person, but after your first few episodes you grew to love Pete. Your energies matched so well, and whenever you wrote together you easily built of each other.
After 6 years of working on the show together, you had become really close friends. You were with him through all of his hard times, and you were one of the few people he let visit him in rehab. In return, he stuck by your side through everything, even when the internet tried to cancel you for an interview that was taken completely out of context.
You couldn’t pinpoint when, but at some point, you had developed real feelings for him. Obviously, you’d never tell him, not wanting to mess up your amazing friendship. But they still flourished, especially when you would be up until 6 am writing sketches and goofing around in the writer’s room. Of course, the comments from fans didn’t help your feelings either. They loved you guys. Anytime you posted Pete on your social media, they were all over it.
But you guys had denied the dating rumors countless times since they’d started 5 years ago. Even though having to hear the words “we’re just friends” over and over killed you.
You were lost in thought when Pete came up behind you, hands grabbing your shoulders and shaking you slightly. “Ready bookworm?” He asked, moving to stand next to you.
“Only if you are, Mr. jock-man.” You laughed, rolling your eyes.
The sketch you and Pete had written was a young couple on a really fancy date to celebrate their 6-month anniversary. Your character was going on the date with Kyle Mooney’s character. Both of you were the stereotypical nerd couple with glasses, suspenders, and everything else. Pete was playing your waiter, who obviously did not give a shit about his job. He was the stereotypical jock character. Your character was super attracted to him and kept paying attention to him. He loved the attention and would do things like show you his (reaaaallllyyy) lame tattoos, tell you about sports, and everything that nerds don’t like. Kyle obviously didn’t like that and kept trying to get your attention in the weirdest of ways.
It was pretty funny in rehearsals, almost too funny. Seeing Pete act so out of character was hilarious to you and having to overdramatically flirt with him felt ridiculous. You barely made it through in rehearsals without laughing, so you had to hope you could do it on stage.
“Y/N, Pete, and Kyle. You’re up.” The stagehand told you, and you grabbed Kyle’s hand, walking to the stage.
The sketch started and you were doing okay. You and Kyle had your conversation about your anniversary and your favorite Star Wars movies. But then Pete walked onto the stage in his ridiculous waiter getup. His white shirt was unbuttoned at the top and wrinkled, his black pants hanging low on his hips, and his apron only half tied. You bit your tongue to keep yourself together.
“Welcome to White Oyster, what do you want?” He said in a very bored voice. You acted interested, eyes raking up and down him. You felt ridiculous and had to swallow a laugh.
Kyle pushed his glasses up on his nose, “me and my girlfriend are here for our six-month anniversary, so we would like the couple’s special.” His nerd voice was incredible.
“Okay. Anything else?” Pete’s voice remained monotone.
You bit your lip, “do you recommend anything else?” You asked, trying to sound nerd-sexy.
You could see Pete struggling to contain a smile. “I mean, whatever. Food here is shitty anyways.”
Kyle’s mouth gaped, “can you not speak like that around my girlfriend, please?”
The sketch continued with you making flirty remarks towards Pete, him being very bored and unaware, and Kyle trying to direct your attention. After your second attempt at flirting with him, you could feel yourself breaking down.
“So, I was wondering. Do you have any tattoos?” You asked him, your elbow on the table, twirling a piece of your hair in your finger.
Pete nodded, pulling up his shirt to show the big MOM tattoo on his side that was drawn on earlier. You felt a giggle slip out, completely out of character.
You tried to cover it up and continue, “wow, you really must love your mom, huh?” Another chuckle leaving your mouth, “that’s kinda hot.”
Kyle looked at you with wide eyes, “Linda!” He screamed the name of your character
Pete shrugged, “Nah, I did it myself. It says WOW, like world of warcraft.”
You couldn’t help the laugh that fell out of your mouth, and one followed from Pete. This was a disaster. You tried to regain your composure, knowing Kyle was probably really frustrated right now. “I just think tattoos are so cool. You don’t have any, do you Darren?” You asked Kyle’s character, eyes narrowing at him. You heard a chuckle from Pete beside you and you bit your cheek.
Kyle faked looking flustered, “N-no. But I have all 7 of the Harry Potter books and 4 collectors wands.”
Pete nodded, “Oh cool, I have a Harry Potter tattoo.” He pulled up his arm to show his real tattoo.
Your eyes went wide, “Wow. That’s way cooler.” You batted your eyes up at Pete, making him break even more. Watching his face go red and his mouth lifting up with laughter made you squeeze your eyes to hide your laughter.
“But babe!” Kyle was starting to break now too. “You love my Harry Potter stuff!”
“It’s cool, I guess.”
The sketch continued with you and Pete laughing anytime you looked at each other, your energies feeding into one another. You both tried really hard to keep it together, but something about flirting with Pete made you so giddy inside that you couldn’t help it.
Eventually the scene ended and the lights went down. You knew the cameras probably caught an extra few seconds after the close of the sketch, meaning they caught you and Pete breaking down into fits of laughter.
You somehow made it offstage, faces red. “We’re so gonna get fired.” He said through giggles.
“I’m so sorry,” You started, trying to take breaths through your laughs. “I don’t know why I couldn’t hold it together.”
“You looked ridiculous.” Pete laughed, pointing at your glasses.
After the show you made your way back to your dressing room, changing into your day clothes and getting ready to leave. You finally checked your phone, which had been off the duration of the show.
Your twitter feed was filled with clips of you and Pete laughing through the sketch.
They’re so cute together #goals
Love their friendship
Get you someone who looks at you like Pete looks at Y/N
Poor Kyle ☹
The way they can’t get through a skit because they’re too in love
And they say they aren’t dating…
Can’t believe the unprofessionalism
Pete and Y/N are dating… no one can convince me otherwise
The flirting!!! The looks!!!
I would like Pete and Y/N to get married and adopt me please
Your heart melted at all the comments, a sigh leaving your mouth. You watched the video and noticed the way he looked at you anytime you broke character, it was the same way you looked at him all the time.
You shook your head, convincing yourself you were imagining it. You couldn’t afford to think like that, it would ruin your friendship.
A knock at your door pulled you out of your thoughts, “Y/N, wanna go grab a drink with me?” It was Pete.
“You can come in.” You called, and he did so. “I don’t know, I was thinking I might just go home. I’m pretty tired.” You really just wanted to go home and sort through your feelings for the umpteenth time that month.
He nodded, watching as you tossed various items in your bag, “you were great tonight.”
You giggled, “Pete I barely made it through our sketch, it was a disaster.”
He rolled his eyes, walking over to where you were at your vanity. “I messed up too, but it was fine. No one noticed.”
You leaned into the mirror, fixing your makeup slightly. Pete was very close to you, watching you through said mirror. “Trust me, Petey. Everyone noticed.” You laughed, standing up straight again.
Your back was inches from his chest, and you could suddenly feel a different sort of tension in the air. But you didn’t make any move to shift away from him. He gave you a quizzical look through the mirror and you took out your phone, turning to him.
You took in a breath at the proximity. You weren’t close enough to kiss or anything, but his chest was only a few inches away from you. You shook away the thoughts you were having and opened your twitter, letting him scroll through the tweets. He chuckled and shook his head as he read them, eventually handing you your phone back.
“People really like us together.” He said, smiling.
You rolled your eyes, “They have for the past like, 6 years, Petey. We’re funny.” You smiled moving to turn back to grab your bag, but his hand grabbed your hip and made you stay facing him.
Your mind went blank at his touch, trying to figure out if this was real or if you were just really really tired. “That’s not what I meant.” He said, quieter.
You laughed, looking away from his eyes, not really knowing what to say. “I mean, people have always thought… stuff like that.” You mumbled, trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
Pete’s eyes were searching your face, taking in every detail. “Have you ever thought about, like, why people think we’re…” He trailed off, but you knew what he was implying.
You blushed, looking down at your toes. “I mean, I guess we’re together a lot and we get on well. People just like to make assumptions, I guess.”
“Yeah, and I’m sure it doesn’t help that I can never keep my eyes off of you, even when the cameras are rolling.” He said, a chuckle following.
You smiled, looking back up at him, your brain trying to process what he just said. After a few moments of silence, you spit out a “why are you bringing this up?” Your voice was soft, almost a whisper.
He sighed, hand moving from your hip and rubbing his face lightly. “I don’t know, I’ve just been thinking a lot.” You gave him a look that told him to continue. “I mean, I think it’s kind of obvious that I like you.”
Your mouth dropped, “obvious? Pete Davidson you have been far from obvious about your feelings.” You really thought you were dreaming, hearing those words from him was just impossible.
“Are you kidding me? How many sketches do I have to write just so I can flirt with you? Have you not picked up on the fact that literally every sketch I write for you to be in we’re playing some sort of couple?” He laughed, stepping towards you, and grabbing your hips again. “Dude, and I thought I was oblivious to this shit.”
“In my defense I’ve spent the past like 6 years trying to convince myself you didn’t feel the same way.” You said, a smile crossing your face.
Pete rolled his eyes, leaning closer to you, “now why would you wanna do that?” There was a playful tone in his voice, but you couldn’t help your serious answer.
“Because I didn’t wanna read the signs wrong and mess up our friendship.” You sighed.
Pete’s smile softened, “Y/N I literally want to kill you right now for making me wait this long.” You giggled, leaning closer to him. “But you’re cute so I guess I can let it slide.”
“If I kiss you will it make up for it?” You asked, batting your eyelashes.
Pete pretended to think about it, “hmmm, maybe. You should definitely give it a shot to see.”
You rolled your eyes, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him into you. Your lips touched his and it was like everything in the universe suddenly aligned. His mouth moved against yours in soft, perfect motions. His hands pulled you closer into him, your bodies molding together like it was meant to be.
When you finally pulled away for breath, he pressed his forehead against yours, a wide grin on his face. “So, about those drinks?”

Notes on a Season - Devi, Paxton and everything in between
1. Can I just say, it is so freaking good to see POC teenagers being hot and sweet and swoon-worthy. Like, I feel like we're oddly almost taking this for granted but it is amazing to see POCs (and Asians in particular!) being shown as desirable not only to each other but to other people as well and it is NORMALIZED. Gosh, I love this show.
2. I've seen this mentioned on other pages as well but I have to chime in, the music is sooo good! And extra thumbs up to whoever is selecting the music for Daxton in particular, they are absolutely killing it with the iconic soundtrack to this blossoming relationship!
3. I don't know what it is about this season but Nalini's grief was so poignant to me, even more so than last season. She's really become my second favorite character on the show (behind Pax-Man), Poorna portrays her so wonderfully nuanced, dignified and funny!
4. The Grandparents! Oh my were Devi's grandma and Paxton's grandpa the bestest or what? Adorable, quirky personalities that really brought depth to the family dynamics on the show this season. Loved them and more please!
5. Erica and Trent! Just kidding Eleanor and Trent. This was an unexpected but super cute development, I can so see this! I'm hoping S3 will be more of these two and less of the triangle of absurdity, it about time Trent got some love and I'd much rather see this than another season of Devi (unnecessarily) waffling between two boys again.
6. I'm glad we got to see swimming taken away from Paxton. It wasn't necessarily the fleshing out I wanted it to be but it was something. I've always known there are many layers to him, still waters run deep, but it was good for the show to actually SHOW us this. I wasn't wild about Gigi being the narrator but what can you do? At least we got a Paxton-centric episode. I liked seeing him work at being better at school and being so SATISFIED when he accomplished that. That's a really beautiful part of his relationship with Devi, this is his Achilles heel and she was the perfect support and foil for him where he needed it the most. I love that he recognized that and appreciated her for it too. Devi isn't often vocally appreciated by people. I love that Paxton doesn't hesitate to thank her, it must have felt so good for Devi to hear that.
7. The disbelief in Ben's voice when he sees Paxton and Devi together at the prom... that said so much to me. Ben isn't jealous about Paxton/Devi you guys, he's just jealous of PAXTON. His uber competitiveness strikes again. It's actually already present in flashes throughout Season 1 and I didn't pay much attention before. But yeah, Ben's problem is Paxton and how. At this point it's not about Devi as much as it is, just about winning her back *from* Paxton. I bet my future mortgage that's what's going to play out next season. Ugh.
8. So um... that look down that Paxton does just before he kisses Devi outside the prom? SWOOOOON! It's not the first time he does it (he does it slightly too during THE rain scene) but it's really pronounced here and I love it! I wonder if it's just instinctive or if Darren deliberately inserts this into Paxton and if it's the latter I'm dying to know why. It just really works people. Hehehe.
9. I find it significant that we get to *see * Devi first laying her eyes on Paxton. It could've been a throw away line that states the fact but we got visuals! From the get go, she was a goner. And it wasn't even really about LOOKS at that age! Something about him instantly drew her, fascinated her, compelled her. The Paxton thing is deep with Devi. Her running after him and not Ben after her double dipping comes to light makes all the sense in the world within this context. Paxton's the one that's in her dna almost.
10. Okay so I'm biased and I'm a Daxton stan come rain and shine but I really do think they get the most thought through love scenes, not just the music which is WONDERFUL, but also the way the scenes are shot, the cinematography, the lighting, the *time* that's spent on them, it tells me something. I've seen enough tv to know that this type of treatment for a couple isn't random nor is it wasted. Which brings me to, finally...
11. I've seen many a post here on Tumblr talking about a Benvi "endgame". Errr, no. Firstly because while there's no doubt we are going to have any go-around the triangle of absurdity, I see NOTHING that suggests Ben and Devi are going to be the couple that the series closes out with. Nah. There's been far too much time and DETAIL spent on building Paxton and Devi up. There will be detours and roadblocks, Devi and Paxton aren't smooth sailing by any means but endgame isn't in Ben and Devi's future, I'm almost certain of it.

BUCKY’S POV
There’s a pounding in his head that hasn’t stopped since the crash. As his senses start to come back Bucky notices, he’s lying on concrete, the cold seeping into his bones.
About the same time, he realises he’s on the floor he remembers what happened. Bucky shoots up from the floor, causing dizziness but he didn’t care. The only thought he had was you.
As Bucky looks around, he sees the chair you were in empty and the room also empty. Morning had started to break, and he curses himself for losing precious hours.
As Bucky starts to make his way out of the building his body aches as his head keeps pounding in time with his heart.
He finally finds an exit and walks until he comes to a main road. Bucky looks around and breathes a sigh of relief that he knows where he is. With no phone or anything to communicate with anyone, Bucky walks.
He follows the main road as his thoughts race. He can’t help picturing you with Isaac and it makes him sick. The worry for you and the anger at himself and Isaac is almost enough to bring him to his knees, but he said he would find you and he would. He would die before he ever stopped looking.
Bucky felt like he had been walking forever but it was probably only about twenty-five minutes. The older building coming into view. He picks up the pace until he comes to the gates.
Bucky walks right in catching the eye of two men. They look at each other alarmed by the way he looks but Bucky simply says, “go get him”.
The one runs off as the other stays by the gate. Bucky keeps walking afraid that if he stops, he won’t be able to get back up.
As Bucky reaches the door Darren steps out looking concerned. Bucky clenches his jaw before saying, “I need your help”.
YOUR POV
You’re cold. You smell damp. You hear murmuring.
You shift and groan as your eyes protest being opened. You feel what must be springs digging into your back as you make sense of what you’re seeing.
Its quite a dark room, the ceiling old brick and as you follow it the walls are brick too. You sit up fast and groan. You notice you’re sitting on a mattress and metal frame.
You stand up and gasp as your bare feet touch stone. When you get over the shock you notice metal bars covering an archway, the only exit to this room.
It took you a while to comprehend what you were seeing but you finally realised that you were in a dungeon. You’re incredibly confused as voices get louder.
You walk closer to the bars, your feet becoming numb due to the cold until two figures step into view. It doesn’t take you long to see that its Harry and Isaac.
You look at the both of them, “where the hell am I?”.
Harry’s British accent comes out loud in the small space, “This is an estate of mine. I had a lot of extra room here, so I let Isaac renovate a few of his labs here”.
You screw up your face, “am I in a dungeon?”.
Harry chuckles, “my estate is essentially a castle, this place has many hidden places, this small dungeon being one”.
Isaac speaks next, watching you carefully, “no one knows you’re here. It’s just me, Harry and one of my men. The rest of the men don’t know you’re here, so Bucky definitely doesn’t know you’re here. Don’t cause me any trouble”.
You hold his gaze lifting your chin, “he’ll find me”.
Isaac smirks, “no. He won’t”. That’s when he pushes some type of clothing through the bars, “wear that. I have some initial tests I want to run as soon as possible. If you don’t have it on by the time my man comes to get you, he’ll put it on you himself”.
Without another word from either of them they leave. You pick up the clothing and see that it’s a hospital gown.
Its freezing in the room due to the stone so you don’t really want to put it on, but you don’t want to risk anyone else putting it on for you. You strip and quickly put the gown on. You sit on the edge of the bed and wait.
BUCKY’S POV
Darren didn’t even blink when he agreed to help in any way he could. The first thing that Bucky did was call Steve.
“Hello?”, Steve’s voice sounded tired, strained.
Bucky was just relieved to hear his voice, “Steve, its Bucky-“.
Steve interrupts him, “Bucky?! Where are you?! Are you hurt? I saw the car-“.
Bucky just manages to get out, “Steve, he took her”.
There was a heavy silence for a few moments, “where are you?”.
Bucky’s head was still hurting, “Darren’s”.
“Me and Sam will be there as soon as we can”, Steve waits a second before hanging up.
Darren comes back with a woman with a full looking rack. Bucky just sits there on Darren expensive looking sofa.
She comes over without a word and starts attending to the cut on Bucky’s head. Darren sits opposite Bucky and waits for the woman to finish. Before she leaves, she hands Bucky some tablets and water.
As Bucky takes them, Darren asks, “What happened Buck?”.
Bucky stares into space picturing the events as he tells Darren, “Isaac ambushed me and Y/N. I didn’t even see it coming. Rammed straight into us. I held em’ off as much as I could but there were too many of them and Y/N refused to run”.
Darren’s eyebrows raise, “brave woman”.
Bucky’s mouth twitches despite the circumstances, “stubborn woman…He took us to a warehouse about half hour from here. He was gonna kill me, but Y/N convinced him not to. He knocked me out and took her”.
Darren’s jaw clenched, “what do you need from me?”.
YOUR POV
It took about twenty minutes for you to hear footsteps and for another figure to come up to the bars. You can’t make much out other than he’s blonde and tall.
He opens the bar door and his gruff voice comes out, “move”.
“Where’s my please?”, you don’t know if its you being brave, stubborn, or stupid, but the comment comes out just the same.
The guy comes marching in and grabs your arm. He yanks so hard that your cry echoes in the room and you’re afraid he’ll rip it out of the socket.
You fight against him, fear of what Isaac has in store finally kicking in. But it doesn’t matter, you can’t get a grip with your bare feet and your punches bounce off him.
He leads you down narrow corridors and you lose track until he stops abruptly at a wooden door. He opens it one handed and drags you in.
Its like you stepped into a different reality. The room was white, and the floor was tiled. It was like you had entered a hospital. It made the knot in your stomach tighten painfully.
Isaac was sitting at a desk in a white coat. Your eyes slide from him to the glass window in front of him that looked into a room with an MRI machine.
Isaac talks with his back still to you, “put her on the table”.
The man starts backing you up, but you keep resisting. You manage to clip the guy in the face, his grip loosening enough to break free for only a second. Before you can get very far, he pulls you by your hair and throws you into the table.
Your stomach collides with the edge of the table and knocks the wind right out of your lungs. You double over and end up falling to the floor trying to suck in air.
Isaac doesn’t even care. He just walks over calmly as you struggle to breathe and injects something into your arm. You don’t remember anything after that.
BUCKY’S POV
The pounding in his head hadn’t stopped. The dizziness was still there, but Bucky couldn’t keep still. He was pacing in front of Darren worrying about you and wondering how he was going to find you.
There was a knock on the door that made Bucky turn around in his pacing. One of Darren’s workers had guided Steve and Sam to the room.
Steve took big strides over to Bucky, pulling him into a hug, closely followed by Sam. When Sam steps back he says, “we’re gonna get her back”.
Steve nods before asking, “what happened?”.
So, Bucky tells them everything. Once Bucky finishes Steve asks, “you got people on the inside, right? You planted people in Isaac’s organisation a while ago?”.
Bucky nods, “I’ll reach out to them, ask if they’ve seen her or heard anything about where he’s got her. There were also cameras at the warehouse he took us to, pull the footage and see if it tells us something”.
Sam holds his hand up, “we’ll do all of that and whatever else you need us to do, but we need to take you back and get you some medical attention”.
Bucky starts to shake his head, but Steve talks next, “Sam’s right. You can reach out to your informants in the car on the way back home, but you need to get your head checked out. You’re no good to Y/N if you’re injured”.
Bucky nods frustrated with how right they were and how much time its going to waste, “okay, lets get moving then”.
Bucky starts moving towards the door and everyone follows. Steve and Sam get in the car and Bucky follows. Before he closes the door, Darren says, “I’ve got a few people I can reach out to. I’ll let you know if I hear anything”.
Bucky nods, grateful, before slamming the door. Sam hands him a phone to start making calls as Steve speeds back home.
YOUR POV
It was like you were repeating history. You wake up groggy again and you shift as springs dig into your back.
You take in your cell and start to get up before the world tilts causing you to crash back onto the bed. That’s when Isaac speaks, making your heart race, “you’re going to feel dizzy and you’ll probably throw up soon. I need you to rest because I’ll need to take a few more tests in a few hours”.
You manage to murmur, “fuck you”.
Isaac chuckles, “the harder you fight the more I’m going to enjoy breaking your spirit. There’s a bucket in the corner of the room for when you throw up”.
You listen to his footsteps walking away, loud to the throbbing of your head. You try focusing on your breathing, but it wasn’t long before you felt saliva flood your mouth and your stomach clench.
You stumble out of bed and towards the corner. You nearly fall two times before making it to the bucket and heaving. Not much comes out as you stay hunched over the bucket for about half an hour just heaving.
By the time it stops your body is shaking and you have to crawl back over to the bed. You get back on and curl in on yourself, falling asleep to forget.
BUCKY’S POV
By the time they get back to the house Bucky has got in touch with everyone that he can think of, but it still doesn’t feel like enough.
He gets out the car more frustrated than ever and once inside he makes a beeline for the office. That is until Steve blocks his path, “I don’t think so. Med wing. Now”.
Bucky doesn’t fight as Steve escorts him towards the medical wing. He asks softly, “how is Peggy doing? I can’t believe I missed everything”.
Steve smiles, “she’s doing great. She’s at the safe house with the kids thinking of a name for our boy as we speak”.
Bucky nods, lost in thoughts, “good, that’s good”.
Steve looks over concerned, “Buck…”.
Bucky reaches for the med wing doors, “go and get the footage from the warehouse and get in contact with anyone I missed in the car while I get my head sorted”. Bucky didn’t give Steve a chance to say or ask whatever he was going to say as he lets the doors close.
YOUR POV
You wake to the noise of the barred door scrapping against the stone floor. You don’t move from your foetal position on the bed.
It’s the blonde guy again, “move”.
Your body still feels weak and shaky. When your voice comes out you don’t recognise it, “go fuck yourself”.
You hear his heavy steps approaching and you brace yourself. Again, he yanks your arm and pulls you off the bed. You don’t expect it and can’t catch yourself in time before your hip and knee collide with the stone floor.
You yelp as pain radiates along your leg. As you try breathing through the pain, he takes advantage and manages to carry you most of the way without much fight from you.
He drops you on the table in the room and Isaac is waiting with another syringe. He wastes no time in using it as you feel the sting in your arm.
They both step back and you start to get off the table, but your limbs don’t listen. You try moving your legs, but you go nowhere. You try moving your arms but still you’re staring at the white ceiling.
Panic starts clawing in your chest as your eyes dart around the room as much as they can. You can feel the cool table underneath you but despite all your strength you can’t even make your fingers twitch.
You even go to ask Isaac what he did but your mouth wouldn’t open. Fear was gripping your racing heart as you hear your blood in your ears like the sea raging on the shore.
Isaac comes into view with a smile, “try not to panic, it wouldn’t do me any favours if you died. I needed to do an MRI with you awake, but I imagined you wouldn’t lay still for me, so I thought I’d make you”.
He nods to the blonde guy and he picks you up. He takes you into the next room and places you on the machine.
During the entire process you try to move, but nothing worked. The loss of control and feeling of helplessness made breathing difficult.
You decided to just close your eyes and picture Bucky. You picture him healthy and in one of his black suits. You try and imagine what he would say to you now. He’d probably cup your face and make your eyes look at his and say, “you’re strong, smart, and stubborn. I know you can do this until I get there, you just need to breathe Doll. Just breathe for me. I will find you”.
It was only when you opened your eyes that you realised a tear had escaped down the side of your cheek and into your hair.

Darren how do you deal with stage fright .... i’ve been preforming in front of people for a while and i i still get scared . Does it ever go away ?
i guess it depends on how big the crowd is. everybody's different but I will say any kind of fright means you care, which is a good thing! Also the thing people forget about performing, for the most part, is you can't SEE the audience, most of the time they're in the dark. That's why performing for friends or in a small space where you can see everyone is much more nerve-racking
Darren Criss 18:08:57
Dana
Darren can we have a royalties tour once rona is over???
wouldn't that be fun!
Darren Criss 18:09:15

Darren, I know it’s all weird right now, but do you have any idea when we might see Nerdy Prudes Must Die?
what a good question. I have no idea but I've been wanting to see that show for almost as long as I've wanted to make Royalties. The boys have been talking about that one for a while now.
Darren Criss 18:10:16

Did you write each of the songs with the performers in mind or did you cast them afterwards?
great question. Except for "Also You," which was written with Jackie Tohn for Jackie Tohn, we had no idea who would sing each song. I did the demos for almost all of them and then we had to pitch actors/artists to see if they'd be interested... which wasn't as hard (luckily) as seeing if they were AVAILABLE... which many weren't given the short time we had to make the show. Hopefully we can get some of those folks on for the next season IF THEY'LL LET US HAVE ONE!
Darren Criss 18:13:52

darren royalties is so good i'm fucking proud of you
thanks for watching it, truly. I know the Quibi thing is strange for people so I appreciate you giving it all a chance : )

come to the uk challenge
god i wish.
Darren Criss 18:15:39
damn someone said "travel to UK challenge" and I meant to respond "find a vaccine challenge"
Darren Criss 18:17:08
i can't hear any of these songs but I"m just gonna start saying random shit about them
Darren Criss 18:17:16
first off, i really wanted a theme song
Darren Criss 18:17:23
that was a whole thing
Darren Criss 18:19:18
Had to cut through a lot of red tape to make sure we had that silly song in there. We were already in the middle of post production when I finally got it approved, but it had to be under 15 seconds. I wrote 3 diff versions. So glad it ended up working. Theme songs accomplish so much in such a short period of time. Establishes tone. Gives the audience an almost Pavlovian response to the familiarity of the characters... I'm happy with it
Darren Criss 18:20:12
also the "doo doo doo" lyrics are meant to sound like "scratch vocals" when songwriters record vocals with temporary gibberish lyrics with the intent of filling them in with real ones later
Darren Criss 18:22:29
Just That Good was a concept that started the entire 1st season, and it was one of those instant-songs where Nick and Matt told me the title and I immediately had the hook just from those words. That only happens every once in a while and I was so happy it did for that song. The tricky part was writing the rest of it, but the back half of the song with the chorus repeating that one refrain over and over- that was the melody from the get go
Darren Criss 18:23:08
I'll get back to Break it In, kick your shoes/let your hair, and kong later... i'll just go off on this one
Darren Criss 18:23:48
so I wanted to nod to the grandeur of everyone's favorite vampire elf, Jared Leto
Darren Criss 18:24:05
not HIM specifically, but 30 seconds to mars' very BIG music videos
Darren Criss 18:24:29
i dont jared is a buncha self centered nutcases like our guys in SWITCHBACK JACKET
Darren Criss 18:24:37
* i don't think Jared...
Darren Criss 18:25:38
anyway yeah "so much better..." comes from a lot of the 90s alt rock that I grew up on, and the mix of that sound with a bit of electronic production was an effort to contemportize it as much as possible
Darren Criss 18:26:26
but the rhythm guitar, lots of power chords and high octaves were all harkening to my fave bands like Lit and Eve 6... but put through a strange bizzaro nickleback/creed performance filter
Darren Criss 18:26:55
"make you come true" is obviously a very salacious play on words
Darren Criss 18:28:27
so the only way to make it feel earnest is if we made the track itself sexy as possible. A lot of the songs, even without being written, leant themselves to a certain genre just by the title, and this one was kind of a no-brainer. Sexy mid tempo r&b. And I didn't even know we'd get Jordan Fisher to do it- who SMASHED the vocal.
Darren Criss 18:29:42
lauraacampbell-12
DARREN CHORDS OR LYRICS FIRST WHEN WRITING A SONG?
it's different every time but for this show specifically it's always title/idea first, and then the song comes from there. But that's because we're writing a show, so we have the luxury of getting to write from a specific place. It's much harder to do that in your own life when you just want to pull a title/idea from your own experience of life. I commend people that do that all the time.
Darren Criss 18:30:06
what's NUTS about prizefighter is...
Darren Criss 18:30:24
it was originally a song called LONG RANGER that BONNIE MCKEE sang, who I wrote the song with
Darren Criss 18:30:38
and in the video we had CHRISSY TIEGEN lipsynching
Darren Criss 18:30:44
it was bananas
Darren Criss 18:31:26
we ultimately couldn't use the song because of some complicated writers shit- not too dissimilar from the things we explore in our own show, which is just totally ironic.
Darren Criss 18:32:56
we were so bummed that we couldn't use the song but I'm actually really really happy with PRIZEFIGHTER. I love the song, and I love how it turned out production wise. I love how much of a massive influence latin x rhythms have had across the entire spectrum of mainstream music, so I wanted try my own hand at nodding to it!
Darren Criss 18:33:08
Lara :)!
Ahhhhh so was that the pilot song you were talking about last week?
that's the one
Darren Criss 18:33:45
hbz3jctrg5rwwma640hahffvt
You have inspired me to learn piano I already know how to play teanage dream now
you can thank Bonnie Mckee aka Kimmy Kelly for writing that song!
Darren Criss 18:34:01
ok then there's the k pop song
Darren Criss 18:34:08
honestly i had no idea where I was gonna start on this one
Darren Criss 18:34:22
full props to the brilliant CJ Baran who I wrote this song with
Darren Criss 18:34:39
we were just toying around with very industrial-sounding samples
Darren Criss 18:35:21
and I started singing Edvard Grieg's "in the hall of the mountain king"
Darren Criss 18:35:33
and he was the guy that was like YEAH JUST PUT IT IN THERE
Darren Criss 18:35:46
and i realized, oh yeah, that song is public domain
Darren Criss 18:35:59
and kinda ties perfectly to the nature of Elia Peck and his songwriting... huh.
Darren Criss 18:36:05
So we went for it from there.
Darren Criss 18:36:17
based the lyrics off of what the Neals say in the room.
Darren Criss 18:36:34
and then just wrote a bunch of ALMOST nonense lyrics about things that you could HATE that you NEED
Darren Criss 18:36:40
things like available wifi...
Darren Criss 18:37:01
artistinal mai-tais.... yeah I guess if you really really liked those you could HATE that you NEED them...
Darren Criss 18:37:04
etc etc
Darren Criss18:38:16
but the idea was to have Mariam Hale's character hardly do ANYTHING on the track, since she, as the audience sees, doesn't really have much to offer... so we just built it around this huge track with crazy lyrics that just tees up a tag for her to say without even having to sing: I HATE THAT I NEED YOU
Darren Criss18:38:43
2235n5s2qk5hjsujbhk5ilpva
I have classes in 10 minutes, and I'm not leaving until you dedicate a Royalties song to me.
looks like you're gonna miss calss
Darren Criss 18:39:09
"calss" ha. which is like "class" but like... different.
Darren Criss 18:39:32
alrighty PERFECT SONG
Darren Criss 18:39:38
i really love this song as well
Darren Criss 18:40:02
the reveal of this song is that they keep talking about this "perfect song" they've written
Darren Criss 18:40:26
in other words we're teeing up a pretty big expectation of what a perfect song could possibly sound like
Darren Criss 18:40:36
the reveal of course is that the song itself is in fact just called "perfect song"
Darren Criss 18:40:43
which is ABOUT a perfect song
Darren Criss 18:41:07
and about TRYING TO WRITE a perfect song, and how that's not necessary when you have someone that IS the perfect song
Darren Criss 18:41:20
when we wrapped our heads around that idea, I really loved it
Darren Criss 18:42:10
you'll notice we reference a lot of incredible songs, almost citing them as perfect songs themselves
Darren Criss 18:42:14
ain't no mountain high enough
Darren Criss 18:42:55
of course leonard cohen's seminal Hallelujah
Darren Criss 18:44:05
and of course Britney's Oops I Did It Again ha ;)
Darren Criss 18:45:00
the Oops being a layered joke of being annoyed with oneself that they AGAIN unwittingly wrote a lyric for already massive song, but in doing so citing yet ANOTHER already massive song... if that makes any sense
Darren Criss 18:45:27
sorry for the typos yall i'm moving fast, i'd never let this shit slide if it wasn't a casual chatroom vibe
Darren Criss 18:46:37
emzlolly1234
Did you know you wanted there to be a romantic thing between pierce and Sara?? :))))
yes that was actually our original "pilot presentation" episode. the one with the song LONE RANGER and Chrissy Tiegen. It was a longer version of what would become episode 7. We THINK it's a romantic thing but you realize that Sara is just playing Pierce to get the song she needs. That was always the premise yes.
Darren Criss 18:46:51
luzmargotramos
if you reply with a single dot I'd probably die
then I better steer clear of any dots
Darren Criss 18:47:04
ALSO YOU was an amazing lightning in a bottle moment
Darren Criss 18:47:09
FULL CREDIT TO JACKIE TOHN
Darren Criss 18:47:22
i always enjoy giving credit where credit is due
Darren Criss 18:48:24
and I came in pretty hot for most of the songs- concepts, chords, style... but this one literally was a simple as Jackie Sitting down and just playing "It's you I love but also you and also you and also you."
Darren Criss 18:48:37
we all just looked at each other going, welp, yup, that's it, jackie you fuckin rule
Darren Criss 18:49:28
the song would have ended up very differently if she hadn't brought that to the table. the original episode and song was "one true loves" which isn't nearly as good of a gag/title as "also you"
Darren Criss 18:49:50
i ended up squeezing "one true loves" into the bridge, but of course, kept ALSO YOU as the main event
Darren Criss 18:50:02
i will say I was also trying to spoof my brother's old band, FREELANCE WHALES a little bit
Darren Criss 18:50:26
if you guys know the song "generator first floor" where they sing ay ay ay ay ay a lot...
Darren Criss 18:50:35
... as a lot of bands and songs had featured at the time...
Darren Criss 18:51:00
i wanted to put them all in one joke. where a band sang not only hey hey hey but ay and EE and AYE and OH and basically all the vowels
Darren Criss 18:51:10
which was where the joke of,
Darren Criss 18:51:20
a, e, i, o, and also u
Darren Criss 18:51:21
came from
Darren Criss 18:51:32
which i'm particularly proud of
Darren Criss 18:51:56
ok let's talk about BREAK IT IN
Darren Criss 18:54:16
lxucxthxrxnx_
I’m a musician myself (not that great lol) what was it like coming up with the melodic side did you play any instruments for the songs?
i played instruments on all the songs except Break It In and I Hate That I Need You, since those were all electronic. That's not to say i played EVERY instrument but I definitely played AN instrument of some kind for the others.
Darren Criss 18:55:34
as for break it in... anyway... yeah that was a blast. Nick Lang and I collaborated with my buddy Kendo who goes by the artist name KingJet.
Darren Criss 18:56:54
Kendo has worked on a lot of legit songs in the hip hop space. For each song I wanted to make sure there was a level of authenticity to what we were doing. I didn't wanna SPOOF the songs. I wanted the songs to sound rock solid and that it would be the LYRICAL CONCEPTS that would be the source of satire. So Kendo was a great guiding light to keep the track as authentic as possible.
Darren Criss 18:59:47
We explained to Kendo the whole joke concept of the song, which is basically just turning the idea of toxic masculinity on its head, and he was on top of it immediately- when we told him that there's this guy that's really concerned that people think he "fucks too soft" he immediately started spitting out lyrics like the hilariously defiant "I'm the KING OF THE HARD FUCK"
Darren Criss 19:00:35
which just killed me and Nick. It was just so juvenile that it was adorable to me
Darren Criss 19:00:57
emzlolly1234
Darren you’ve been here for an hour? That’s the length of royalties man xxx
yeah aint it great
Darren Criss 19:02:21
sophie :)
i personally think you should try your hand at writing a drill song, a british genre of rap that centres around rapping unrelated lyrics in front of chicken shops, personally think it has the right tone for the show for a season two
drill would be siq. I mean, opening the incredible pandora's box of UK based hip hop in general is its own magical wormhole of nuance and history and regional culture. it's amazing. i'd really have to do some homework if I wanted to pull that off!

what would be ur karaoke song choice from the show?

How much music theory goes into your songwriting? And did you learn all of it from playing the violin? In what way does it go into your songs?
all GREAT questions. I mean, music theory isn't something you CONSCIOUSLY employ when writing something, it's just that it really helps to know the rules or music when shaping it and trying to maximize its production. And as a matter of fact, yeah, I DID learn most of it playing violin. But when I was playing violin I was ingesting music from the perspective of a student ingesting information, not as a proactive creator putting anything of my own out into the world.
Darren Criss 19:08:07
Honestly I really didn't start UNDERSTANDING music theory until I started writing music for other people, and noticing certain things and chords and shapes had names and that they could be manipulated to accomplish certain things
Darren Criss 19:08:35
so most of my academic musical knowledge came in my 20s when I tried to start doing it professionally
Darren Criss 19:08:52
Nick
first instrument you ever learnt?

Darren are you a big queen fan ( the band lol ) 😂
is the pope catholic
Darren Criss 19:12:00
ChloeOmelia
Now its available, would you change anything?
jesus so much. but such is the nature of creating stuff. there's a great Hayao Miyazaki quote about always having to make new stuff to escape the woe of all the mistakes you made in your last thing... I mean, that's a bit extreme, I feel like we did the best we could given the circumstance but I totally get where Miyazaki is coming from. And in many ways that's everything we do in life. Do your best, know what you coulda done better and carry on
Darren Criss 19:12:36

who or what was your biggest inspiration growing up
the beatles. the uk. the 60s.

Your first original song was "Not Alone". I'm right?
no it was actually a song i wrote in the third grade when I got a guitar for Christmas called "Save The Whales"

Darren I need an answer it’s been annoying me for days. So was everyone fucking everyone in Pierces old band or was she just fucking everyone seperately??
ha that's a really great question. I figured she was just fucking everyone individually, which is why the band was so contentious but then again I'd rather let your imagination run wild...
Darren Criss 19:15:29

Darren, I love your taste in music. You should share your personal playlists ... bc everybody needs to know phantom planet 😉
if i actually shared my tastes in music, or actually shared the amount of stuff in my brain at the rate that I want to share, I would never work on or create anything because i would constantly be on the internet and you'd all be over me if you weren't already
Darren Criss 19:16:01
But yes, thank you for saying that, I love me my phantom planet oh so very much :)
Darren Criss 19:16:18

could you please answer me I don't speak English and I'm putting ALL my effort into asking you questions I'm going to cry

qalektvmexab6gfwibfihwu6b
Could you please answer me. We’ve supported you for years from the uk and we’re staying up for this but it’s totally worth it because you’re amazing!! Molly x
I wish so bad I could go to the UK!
Darren Criss 19:20:01
FUCK someone asked about Sam Farrar and I wanted to answer it but it disappeared... Sam is a homie. one of my very first songwriting sessions was with him and a very famous member of the pop universe... who if I get a season two, I'm putting in the show.
Darren Criss 19:22:00
9nc1yow3iwnp9p3fs4gcvdnsf
what other instruments would you like to learn in the future?
i just need to spend time trying to get better at the ones I've plateaued with. I feel like I got as good as I'd ever get on the guitar when i was like 19. So I've been trying to get better during the Quarantine. Picked up my violin and dusted off that Vivaldi, started doing drum rudiments on my drum pad, and started learning new licks and scales for guitar. Stuff I never got round to doing.
Darren Criss 19:22:27
harefraz
mr. criss sir, what is your top quarantine activity?
playing music

actually lies. top quarantine activity is learning Japanese. 30 minutes a day. And it's been several months. Almost got Hiragana down, still got a few characters I'm questionable with but with any luck I'll start up on Katakana in the next few weeks.

How different is it doing a show like Royalties where you're heavily involved in the creative process compared to other projects you've done in the past?
i'd say night and day but that's an understatement. When I did Glee all I had to do was act in scenes, record songs, and go to dance rehearsal. With Royalties, it's that AND casting, doing pre production, post production, notes, meetings, notes, writing and producing songs, location scouting, blah blah blah lots of the stuff that you don't have to worry about if you're not a creator. But make no mistake I absolutely love it.

learn spanish
I'll get there. I already speak a bit of Italian so I wanted the challenge of learning something that didn't use a writing system I already understood.

I take Music Technology as a subject at school and we have to make a whole song with the sole sample of glass breaking...
sounds fun. loads of things you can do with that.

What are your goals for once quarantine is lifted?
hopefully to feel like I used this very strange time well.
Darren Criss 19:29:14
Ok I should probabl get outta here right?
Darren Criss 19:29:41
I've talked a lot about mighty as kong in other places
Darren Criss 19:30:00
so I'll just leave you with a story about "Let Your Hair Down"
Darren Criss 19:30:14
which was the very FIRST song we wrote for the show
Darren Criss 19:30:37
I had a meeting with an artist at a dive bar in the middle of the afternoon
Darren Criss 19:31:10
let's just say I showed up to that very first writer's session very late
Darren Criss 19:31:17

darren did you watch hamilton??????
duh last night. so fun.
Darren Criss 19:32:17
anyway I was so relieved that we left with that song at the end of the day. The intent was always to write two songs with the exact same concepts just with different titles
Darren Criss 19:32:50
the chords are the same, just slightly different voicings played on slightly different instruments
Darren Criss 19:33:29
and the idea was that whichever song was funnier, or at least whichever song would be more fun to see in a music video... would be the one that Pierce & Sara write
Darren Criss 19:34:08
"Kick Your Shoes Off" ended up feeling more like a full music video than "Let Your Hair Down" but I LOVE that first song, and hopefully people get to hear the whole thing on Spotify since you don't get to hear the whole song in the episode
Darren Criss 19:34:51
with lines I love like "see my cheekbones, show off my clavicle, I bet you've never seen a ponytail to magical..."
Darren Criss 19:35:39
emilybutcher30

Rod Smith: It’s a matter of perhaps when - maybe even if - the NHL season is able to resume again this year. That being said, of course, the league has to have some contingency plan or plans in place. I understand it goes beyond the league too, that the players are working on a plan as well.
Frank Seravalli: That’s right, Rod. Some of the best players in the NHL - think Hart Trophy and Conn Smythe-calibre players - have been kicking around some ideas in some group chats. They’re following along with the rest of the health experts, knowing that this may take until July or August for the coronavirus to really have enough people recover and build up immunity, so they’re saying in these uncertain times, how could we find a way to potentially create some certainty here for the players.
And one way to do that, the idea that they’ve proposed is to open training camp at some point in July, then play regular season games - potentially enough games to formulate the playoffs, and have enough teams play the same number of games… then start those playoffs in early August. Have the Stanley Cup awarded by late September, and then begin a three to four-week transition period in which you conduct the draft and free agency in October followed by the start of a full, 82-game regular season that would of course be on a condensed schedule starting then in November.
Now, this is something that’s making its way to the NHL PA and at that point they’re hoping that they can present something like this to the NHL where I’m told they’re ready and willing to consider any and all options at this point. The NHL’s certainly not in a position to be closing the door on just about anything at this point.
Rod Smith: And Frank, what I’m hearing is that the NHL has already heard at least some version of this interesting idea that you bring to us here… I will say this, from speaking to an NHL source today, there is no leading option. It’s too premature. Yes, they’re having conversations about different modelling for potential playoff formats, but there isn’t one particular format that they’re buying into heavily. At this point it’s just too early.
Darren Dreger: I don’t know how you can dismiss any concept at this point but to go back to the players’ thinking on this... Look, if I’m Commissioner Gary Betmman, if I’m Don Fuhr the executive director for the NHL PA, if I’m a club owner or an NHL general manager, I would want the best playing minds involved in the sport to present any ideas that they have.
And that sounds exactly like what’s happening here, and I think most of us look forward to the end result, in terms of the presentation made by these players and the NHL PA.
All you have to do is spend five minutes talking to Sidney Crosby and you can feel the pure passion that comes out of him, the sheer knowledge that he has specific to the NHL game. If this group of players is invested as it seems like they are, then the hockey world absolutely has to listen.
Frank Seravalli: Well, there’s no question, Dregs, that they’re certainly invested. The reason why they like this is this checks all the boxes to them… You can’t come back and then all of a sudden have a positive test within the playing group which would derail the situation. In addition to this waiting longer allows you to potentially play in front of full buildings right from the start. The players don’t want to be playing a Stanley Cup that’s going to be awarded in front of an empty building. And in addition to that, that would all maximise revenue - you get as many games as you can to finish out this season and then you get a full slate next year.
Would it be weird to be playing hockey in August and September, awarding the Stanley Cup, there’s no question about that. But these are uncharted waters… We’re going to have to be opening our eyes to all sorts of new realities.
