Today I got home and couldn't figure out why my house was so hot, to the point I was panicking a bit. Checked to make sure I hadn't accidentally turned the heat up, checked to make sure I hadn't left the oven on, checked to make sure the basement wasn't on fire.

Then I realized that it was warm inside because it was, in fact, also warm outside, a thing I had straight up forgotten could happen

I have a rather particular kind of hatred for heat. The kind of bubbling, withdrawn disdain one has for something inescapable but still bearable despite the discomfort.

My body feels heavy, like something that no longer belongs to me completely. I can feel my heart beating beneath my skin now and when I close my eyes, I think I almost feel my blood flowing, thick and syrupy like molasses.

I can almost still smell its scent.

The hospital taught me that, the sour smell of old blood and medicine, of illness being treated and sticky, greasy sweat staining clean sheets. Even now, in the comfort of my own room, the air is muggy and heavy, like a damp blanket left to rot in a washing machine drum, like a dyed garment left to soak, like a storm about to break.

I sometimes wonder if dragging my fingernails along my sweaty skin would remove that layer of smelly wetness that I can't seem to get rid of despite all the showers.

I feel dirty.

I can’t wait for the cold to return.

sitting here overheating because my room really does get super fucking hot in the late afternoon and takes fucking forever to cool down. but it got me thinking about how damn I used to never get dressed during the day during the summer even though I really wanted to. and it was because my m*ther never bought me clothes that were wearable when it's twenty degrees plus, sunny, and as humid as it gets here. and if she did it wasn't for wearing everyday. like poverty is one factor in that but seriously I straight up didn't have enough regular clothing to last a week, especially since I wasn't allowed to wear a shirt more than once and trousers/skirts thrice without washing. that and I was rarely able to choose outfits out for myself either.

#I have a distinct memory of being nine and still in my pyjamas which btw I fucking hated that particular set #because the shorts were too short. just plain old uncomfortable #anyway I remember going 'I'm getting dressed tomorrow because I hate being so hot and I know wearing the same things for so long #is not allowing me to cool down' #never happened. #and anyway I started thinking about the stuff I could wear when I was between the ages of eleven and fifteen and yeah! #there wasn't fucking much! and most of it was winter/not summer clothing #combine this with my absolutely appalling hygiene issues caused by a multitude of reasons none of which were my fault #I know I didn't have much. not until I was about fifteen and started being allowed to choose more stuff #which again most of which was never summer appropriate because within the stuff I chose there were strict rules #and also the fact my m*ther would choose stuff for me and said 'if you don't want this you're not getting anything else' #which can I just say when my most vivid memory of that was in a skirt she was saying made my arse look good when I was fifteen! #just. augh.
