On Returning Favors in Jun & Jun
First of all @plantsarepeopletoo and @twig-tea I'm really sorry I couldn't do this in a reblog to your original post - I think there were just too many gifs and tumblr wouldn't let me post it once I started adding links - so I reblogged a link to this post instead! Second of all - apologies for just randomly jumping in all of a sudden but I think a lot of things are being read through different cultural lenses here and I thought it'd be nice to exchange perspectives. Returning favors seems to be seen as an imposed burden in OP's post, something that is demanded of an individual as opposed to an individual expressing their desire to show appreciation. Also, some of the English subs are awkward, and whilst I certainly don't speak enough Korean to give a blow-by-blow translation - I've asked friends who do and done some research for myself.
Except, the comment about not letting Jun eat made me cautious. Telling him to eat, and not skip, like Jun was prone to skipping breakfast, but we saw he was already at the convince store. It's the start of the implied ineptitude of Jun.
Asking if someone has eaten, and reminding someone to eat, to most Asians, is more of a way to show concern for each other than it is an actual, functional question. Hyun Jae is simply expressing his care for Lee Jun, not actually implying that Lee Jun doesn't know how to take care of himself. As for the comment Lee Jun makes about "previously you wouldn't even let me drink a sip of water" - this has been mentioned in some of the show's already released BTS videos/interviews where they each introduce their characters but not in specifically in the show yet so [SPOILER IN YELLOW] this is a reference to Hyun Jae previously being Lee Jun's manager when he was an idol.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Jo Chan Hyun Hyun Jae is the one who made Jun think he NEEDED to return favors. He at least is using the idea of favors to get closer to Jun. But who demands, expects, or allows close friends/brothers to return favors for things like that? That's just a "thank you"
I don't really feel as if Hyun Jae is demanding anything in return - I think Lee Jun wants to do it of his own volition. As a junior in a workplace, having a senior give you little tips, even if it's just about the type of people at the office, is often appreciated. And whilst it is considered good manners to look for a way to "repay" or "give back" or "return the favor" as a way of showing gratitude and acknowledging their effort, it is not expected, and if a senior lorded a favor over a junior then that would be considered poor behavior (unfortunately toxic workplace environments and harassment in Korea is well known). But here all Hyun Jae has done thus far is to look out for Lee Jun and make sure he settles in well, and really all Lee Jun would need to do in return is to be respectful, listen closely and do his best in his job (not putting in effort would result in a loss of face for Hyun Jae). A step further would be to treat someone to a meal as thanks or bring back some local delicacies from your hometown or after coming back from a holiday (again, we Asians like food). However, the show has established that Lee Jun feels very strongly about returning favors so that someone's kindness isn't taken for granted - so he pays a lot more attention to these things than the average person. I do, however, agree that Hyun Jae pays special attention to Lee Jun because well, he likes him.
Lee Jun is ordering the coffees just fine, honestly. Then Hyun pulls this stunt and starts rattling off orders. To impress Jun? To make Jun feel off balance?
I think this may not have come across in the English subtitles - Lee Jun makes a small mistake when ordering the drinks - he says "two ice vanilla lattes, and 5 americanos...and..." - because he forgets to indicate that the americanos are iced as well, the lady at the cashier interrupts him to confirm "iced...right?" but turns towards Hyun Jae instead. Lee Jun follows up saying "oh yes 4 iced americanos and 1 hot, and one hot chocolate latte, and lemonade...". This is the part where Hyun Jae interrupts Lee Jun and rattles off the orders in verbal shorthand instead. I don't actually see this as Hyun Jae pulling a stunt but...as someone who has made similar coffee runs for my seniors before, I will say I was sufficiently impressed hahaha It's a more efficient way of ordering and well as a newbie who will likely be making many coffee runs in the future, it's good for Lee Jun to know that (it really is quite a stressful thing and it's not easy to learn the verbal shorthand yourself). It does also show that Hyun Jae takes care of his team, because he knows these orders by heart, which means he's going himself and not sending the youngest on the team to go. And it's also a nice way to fit in the 2nd reference to the spoiler up in yellow I mentioned earlier. The rest of the conversation in the coffee shop... I don't actually think Hyun Jae is being condescending at all. Admittedly, some of the phrasings sound awkward in English - "High maintenance" for eg is not the best translation and sounds rather insulting in English - that whole sentence is probably more like "you really are new (to this) aren't you! Or hmm... maybe it's just that you're a handful?". Incidentally this is the same phrase that Choi Jun will use to describe Lee Jun later too - and in both situations, Lee Jun protests that phrase. Here, when Lee Jun says he's better with the skills one needs to function in society (not just social skills), Hyun Jae offers the praise that Lee Jun has always done well in that aspect - hence Lee Jun's shy smile and "really?". Maybe the sentence after that, where Lee Jun says "I still have many areas I'm not good in right? For now, I'll have to trouble you to keep looking out for me, even if that might be annoying for you", sounds a little too deferential in English? It's actually a really common way to talk about yourself and ask for continued guidance when you're new - it's also implied that you will make mistakes because of how new you are, and you're asking for leniency when it does happen. There are many versions of this phrase in many different languages (mostly Confucian Heritage Cultures) but it is an explicit request (and in some places, is accompanied by a gift, if more formal). Hence in response to that request Hyun Jae asks "so how will you repay me? Don't tell me... you're just saying that (without really meaning it)?". It's at this point that Lee Jun switches from addressing Hyun Jae as Hyung to his work title, Team Leader, and asks "Is there anything you might like to eat?". Again, this is really common - treating someone to a meal as a way to express thanks (yes we really like food). Hyun Jae then suggests Lee Jun treats him to a meal with his first paycheck.
This is like reaching a milestone in life. It may sound like I'm exaggerating, but it's true. This isn't about owning anyone a favor, it's about expressing gratitude to someone who has gone out of their way to help you in your life, and it feels good to be able to do it. When I first started work, my seniors and superiors paid for my meals whenever we went to eat. No amount of protesting was going to stop that - because I was "young" and "still learning". I still remember how it felt when I finally moved up in rank and my senior actually allowed me to pay for myself (but not treat), and a few years later, my (much more senior) mentor finally accepted my formal request to bring her out for dinner - because that was an acknowledgement that I had "grown up". There's a reason why Lee Jun is so enthusiastic about using his first paycheck to treat Hyun Jae - it's a recognition of Lee Jun's ability and well, of becoming someone who can contribute to society.
About the chocolate milk - no that's just Hyun Jae chasing Lee Jun hahaha Now I'm sorry for replying to 2 blog posts in one reblog but...
did Hyun Jae not just agree when Lee Jun asked if the Director was nice in ep1 (instead he caveats "you could say that")?
Here Lee Jun actually asks "So (based on what you said) it seems like the Director is a good person?" to which Hyun Jae replies "Mmm... (seems like) a good person, right?". He's not really throwing shade here, he's just agreeing with Lee Jun (and asking for Lee Jun's confirmation - you can read more about the ~지(요) sentence ending here)
Did I imagine him holding his lanyard down so that he would not have to hold the coffee cup with two hands when handing it to Choi Jun?
This is also an acceptable way to hand something to someone actually (3rd point from the bottom)
About the direction Hyun Jae is facing when he drinks - no clue actually. I thought it was weird too.
Ok so ends my sharing! Sorry it got so long. If you're interested in more discussions about social hierarchy in Confucian Heritage Cultures, I've written a small section here when I talked about Win/Team from Between Us (Korea and the Thai-Chinese community are both considered CHCs and thus the concept of the senior/junior dynamic is similar)

₊❏❜ Kazujun Final One-Shot masterlist ? My thoughts about Kazuya's character in tekken 8? Bad writing?
ೃ⁀➷
( Kazujunweek24! )
̗̀➛ Request Open! (For tekken)
Tumblr media
Hello this is the masterlist where I put all of kazujunweek projects in one place for 'easy read' . I found tumblr's format is morr easier to read!
My feeling towards Kazujun?
They're my favorite ship in tekken aaa ! I rooting for them since I was 9 year old 😭 I was so curious about their 'mystery' connection , loving their dynamic and now in 2024 all of my question just been answer! ( not quite ? ) but I love their relationship so much , I would write a romance novel just for them! 😭
My thoughts about Kazujun in Tekken 8
Hear me out , I love the characters ending! The way kazuya talks about jun in his interview! They way they smile at each other . GAHHHH They're so cute!
However , I was dissapointed about the story mode a litttle bit eventhough I was screaming and Crying when 'walkthrough' the story mode .
I am a literature student so the story foundation and tekken lore are important to me .
But here's my opinion , I hate the way they only show Jin's struggle where we ALL know that Kazuya also trapped in his trauma eventhough he's like 50 year old man . That man still trapped in Heihachi shadow , He only see 'power' as his saviour and he's totally a slave for power because of his past trauma .
I want to see Kazuya's thoughts , Like bamco deep dive into his mind! Show his past , show his past with jun! This is where you can bring the element of contrats of the relationship between the 3 of them .
Don't get me wrong . I love Jin ! He's my top husbando in tekken but bro litsen , Kazuya also has his own struggle . Tekken 8 should show both of their struggles , They potray Kazuya as "HAHAHA EVIL , KILL ALL OF THEM" Yes I love when he act goofy but I also want to bamco shows his thoughts about his own struggle . That's all! So let's deep dive into my Kazujun masterlist!

Obbligato: The Devotion to Tatsumi Kazehaya - 13
Writer: Akira
Season: Spring, three years ago
Characters: Kaname, Tatsumi, Jun
Proofreading: Remi + 310mc (JP) & honeyspades (ENG)
Translation: Peace & hyenahunt
Tatsumi: The root of all misfortune lies in inequality and injustice. They are the root of all unhappiness. That is why they must be corrected.
Tumblr media
[Read on my blog for the best viewing experience with Oi~ssu ♪]
Kaname: ... I feel the same as Sazanami. If the fame and shine doesn't belong to my own name, then there's no point to it.
But... Still, it seems as if "Tatsumi Kazehaya" is doing well for itself.
Maybe I should learn from it. Throw away this pride of mine and ensure success through that.
All so I can become the sparkling idol I've always dreamed of being.
Tumblr media
Tatsumi: Haha. If you so wish, then we are able to help you in a number of ways. We offer idol practices, studies, and can even help you find work — all free of charge.
In fact, I pay everyone who comes to one of my gatherings an equal part of my own wages.
Kaname: What do you mean...?
Tatsumi: You see, I have no interest in money. All of the money that "Tatsumi Kazehaya" accumulates is thus given out in equal shares to those gathered here.
No matter how much you've done, or what you've helped with, you're given the same amount of pay as the person next to you.
Hence, I've asked them to help me with the work I've received as much as possible.
Kaname: Are you for real? You're the one paying them?
It isn't the other way around? They're only managing to catch rays of the limelight because of you, aren't they? And yet... you're paying them?
Tatsumi: That's right. I likened it to a company, didn't I? Anyone who becomes a part of "Tatsumi Kazehaya" is offered the same regular pay as everyone else within it.
It's only natural to reward those who work a reasonable sum, isn't it? I would never ask someone to do my work for free.
Such a thing would be against our doctrine— nay, against human decency itself.
Tumblr media
Jun: Ohhh, I get it now... I see just why these guys don't care for working on their own and are perfectly content just being "Tatsumi Kazehaya's assistants.”
They can just kick back and let their earnings pour in that way. Why wouldn't they? The cash they earn through this kinda fixed income is definitely gonna be way more than whatever an idol with no accomplishments could get through independent work.
And on top of that, Kazehaya-senpai's so brilliant at what he does that his work's a huge success every single time. Thanks to that, these guys get the chance to shine while avoiding any risk of failure or injury, or of being thought of as useless.
Sure is a dream job — one fit for morons.
Kaname: And on top of that, if I'm understanding correctly, you pay those a fair wage even if they haven't worked at all?
Tatsumi: I do. We don't discriminate here, you see. All are equal.
Jun: Mmm, well, I’m not that educated so I might be wrong, but this whole arrangement'spretty much that thing, isn't it? Starts with a c and ends with ism....
Our country's a capitalist nation, so y'know, the opposite of that —
Tatsumi: There's truly no need to go that far. I only wish to treat everyone as equally and fairly as possible.
Such a world would be ideal, wouldn't you agree? I want to make it a reality.
Tumblr media
Tatsumi: Everyone is treated equally, given the same opportunities, and is paid fairly for their work. That way, everyone is able to live a happy, fulfilling life.
The root of all misfortune lies in inequality and injustice. They are the root of all unhappiness.
That is why they must be corrected.
There is a distinct disparity between the Special and Non-Special Students here at Reimei Academy. I'm doing what I can to close it.
It doesn't matter who you are, what you are, or even where you came from: you will be treated equally. Everyone will carry the same weight, walk the same amount of steps, and reach the same destination.
Everyone finishes at the same time. Everyone will be granted the same first place result, fairly and ideally.
And that is how we'll stop needless fighting over who's won and lost, we'll cease begrudging others for what they have, and we'll share the same happiness with one another.
That is the ideal world I dream of.
To bring it even slightly closer to reality, I'm doing what I can— though at the moment, this small sphere is all I'm able to influence in such a way.
Tumblr media
Tatsumi: One day, I will take all those who inhabit Reimei Academy, the teachers and Special Students alike, as well as those in the idol industry, in this country, in this world...
And change their ways so we may live in such an Eden.
No, it's more than that. That is my mission in life as the Voice of God, as someone born within a family who teaches His words.
I truly believe that, and so I will live by that faith.
Tumblr media
Tatsumi: May all of God's creations be blessed. Amen.

just finished mask girl & that show is so fucking INFURIATING. not in the plot sense but just that every single problem the characters face stems from the fact that men. are. trash. the root of all problems (of the characters in the show) are because of fucking MEN.
men dictating how women "should" look like
men being absolute fucking pricks and cheating on their wife
men appraising women's self-worth only when they're acting seductively and/or are dressed half naked
men just being fucking gross in general
and another thing that boils my blood to the core is oh nam jun's mother. spoilers below.
bitch is protecting a fucking RAPIST. okay fine, i'll give her the benefit of doubt and say that maybe she didn't know she raised a rapist for a son but he still was genuinely a horrible son. i won't put all the blame on him though because she was also a horrible mother. i cannot stand her at all. also how the fuck is this bitch not dead????? she's like 60 AT BEST and yet she refuses to die?????
also another thing i want to say: this shitshow would've ended so much earlier if mi-mo (or mo-mi, i cannot remember their names but referring to the mother here) just told the rapist's mother that oh nam jun raped her and her daughter is said rapist's child. i'm pretty sure this bitch "loves" her son too much to want to murder her literal granddaughter and kill the last person in their family line. at every single point where mi-mo/ mo-mi (mother) was on the verge of death, i was shouting at the screen "JUST TELL HER SHE RAISED A RAPIST AND NOW MY DAUGHTER IS YOUR GRANDDAUGHTER."
anyway, mi-mo/ mo-mi (mother) deserves the absolute fucking world where she lives a long and happy life with her best friend and dog and baby and no fucking men are there to ruin it for her. my heart aches for her.
that being said, (although i found it a bit draggy sometimes) the show in itself was really good

Castaway Diva Episode 9!!!
"I was sad. Poor him. He lived such a sad life."
It really is sad. Being one of the bigger person when you're the younger one. It's sad understanding things instead of being angry with it. But Mokha, you are so strong. You still have this hopeful kid even after being a castaway for 15 years.
Tumblr media
This drama warms my heart so much because the backstory of how these two young people met and how they survived through life is something so painful yet so pure. All they wanted is one peaceful day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mokha, probably, is the most beautiful thing captured by Kiho's camera. To think that he probably owns one just to capture evidences. She means so much to him. She shone hope to little Kiho in his dark world. And eventually loved her more after knowing her situation but still dreams of a better life. She gave him hope that everything has a future and a chance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The abuse eventually becoming the root of this successful producer. I just feel Mokha took part on this dream. Kiho probably wanted to show great things to the world. Like how he wanted to show Mokha to the world so much he sacrificed his body for Mokha's escape. He waited for 15 long years and searched for her in every island without even knowing if she's alive. All because of the love and hope he has. That Mokha planted on them before by her dreams and hope for a better future.
Tumblr media
Mr. Kang lying about the flower arrangement! I didn't see this coming but I can't help but think maybe he is already making things right. Maybe, just maybe, he's using the flower arrangement but already seeking resolution for their identity theft. What if he already turned himself in and is currently in hearing sessions? Maybe I'm overthinking this too much but what if?
Tumblr media
Also, the never ending efforts of Kiho for Mokha. Huhuhu. I know I had this thought during Love All Play if Chae Jong Hyeop will have a role someday better than Park Tae Jun because that suited him so much but he did! He is climbing this top lead characters and doing so well! Kiho is a different level of a green flag here. I can't even distinguish anymore if it's because of Chae Jong Hyeop, his roles or his smiles. Hahaha you are one great actor, mister!
Tumblr media
And lastly, Manager Park! Your backstory hits me so much. You know when you are young, you see yourself in main characters of the series or films. Now that I'm getting older and being one of the many in this world, I start to relate to characters like him. Not all dreams are achieved nor stories are perfect. There are people who made wrong choices or eventually gave up at some point and they are still worthy to be an inspiration and be given of multiple chances. I know one closed door can open a new one so I hope people keep on trying. It's hard gaining courage to give up but we don't have a choice most of the time. We will eventually have to surrender and start something again.
Looking forward until Ep 12! 🏝️
PS. I have so much to say about Woohak too, but I already hit the photo count limit. Maybe in my next blog, Kang-gijanim!

Seventeen as Renee Rapp Songs
Just because I can (I came up with this idea 2.5 seconds ago)
Seungcheol
Tumblr media
Don't Tell My Mom- Now some of y'all gonna hate on me for that, but S.Coups has a lot on his plate and I don't think he shares most of it. And Don't Tell My Mom message is about now wanting to burden a love one with your problems, which gave leader vibes to me.
Jeonghan
Tumblr media
World Burn- I don't have much reasoning, except I fully believe Jeonghan would rock as Regina George.
(not that I didn't adore Renee)
Joshua
Tumblr media
Pretty Girls- God made men and then sent Joshua as an apology.
Jun
Tumblr media
Snow Angel- Junhui is so under appreciated like this man is beautiful (I erased what I originally typed here because *minors*).
Hoshi
Tumblr media
Poison Poison- I need Hoshi to feature in this...although it would break my sanity
dont put "what sanity?" in the comments
Wonwoo
Tumblr media
What Can I Do- I also need Wonwoo to do a feature in this song...also this is such a sad song, but it gives Wonwoo vibes?? Kinda similar to bittersweet, What Can I Do is about having a crush on a friend.
Also do you guys know how to send I'm sorry notes to fbi agents cause mine listened to me listening to this song on repeat for like a whole day-sapphic crushes y'all 10/10 don't recommend
Woozi
Tumblr media
23- Our dearest songwriter Jihoon:) Again I do not have much reasoning except you know...the vibes match
if ya get it ya get it if ya don't...go listen to the song??
Minghao
Tumblr media
Not My Fault- Its the vibes y'all ...I'm kidding...well slightly...the vibes do match but also I feel like Minghao definitely would love this song and I for one know for certain that I would in fact leave with him
(again if you know, you know if you don't say it with me "Go listen to the song" good job babes :)
Seokmin
Tumblr media
Talk Too Much- Now I know what you are thinking but you are wrong. Talk too much is about getting in your own head. I think Seokmin does that sometimes, so thus this is his allotted song.
Mingyu
Tumblr media
Someone gets hurt- In particular, the part where Renee says "People forget I am human too." I think sometimes fans sexualize Mingyu too much. I mean like those fan calls where fans are asking to see his abs?? like that's way too far.
Seungkwan
Tumblr media
Meet The Plastics- Still not convinced he didn't help write this song (I feel like Boo either doesn't know this song or knows every word no in between)
Vernon
Tumblr media
I hate Boston- I need Vernon on the track. Not really for any particular reason to be honest except...you guessed it... VIBES!
(if y'all wanted actual reasons for these-my bad...contact my FBI agent...I don't have his information if you know tell me I got to send an apology letter...might just hold it up to my laptop camera ngl)
Dino
Tumblr media
Bruises- I love Seventeen's dynamic but like sometimes I wonder if Dino gets his feelings genuinely hurt I mean less now and more like early on (like trainees/debut era). Now I don't think his feelings were hurt on purpose, but I mean being the youngest comes with being the root of jokes sometimes. And I understand being kinda upset over a joke.
There you go lovelies, I am so happy you guys decided to stay and read until the end (or maybe you skipped through and read only your biases part-you know who you are). None of these photos are mine and all of the songs are by Renee Rapp, I strongly suggest giving her a listen. Also don't forget to support Seventeen's upcoming album:)
Also, any suggestions on how I should apologize to my FBI agent will be taken with appreciation (and if you have no idea what I am talking about you are one of the lucky ones :)
Toodles.

BL'S I'm Watching (August 2023)
In order of my enjoyment!
1. Only Friends - Breath of fresh air! It's messy, it's sexy, it's entertaining... it's got a lot of pairings I love seeing together. I like that it's just a more mature BL. Yes, the high heat is great, but it's about these characters feeling comfortable with their sexuality. I want more!
2. My Personal Weatherman - Always enjoy JBL's and high heat ones are even better because imo they always feel more realistic. The plot of this is a bit strange but the chemistry is great and I want to see where it all goes.
3. Hidden Agenda - Joongdunk are just so adorable. Besides the fact that they are just the most attractive pairing to look at, they have clearly gotten even more comfortable around one another. I like that the plot is going in a different direction than I expected. It's not the most amazing BL I've ever seen but I'm enjoying it.
4. Love Class 2 - I was busy last week so I am behind on episodes but I did enjoy the start of the show. A tad confusing on first watch but it made sense in the rewatch. An interesting plot with 3 different pairings to root for, so it's a fun watch. There are a few elements I don't care for but it's not too bad.
5. Dangerous Romance - A bit of a sketchy start and I can't stand bullies, but I am happy that Chimon and Perth get a chance to shine and I wanted more of them. Let's see where it goes.
6. Minato's Laundry 2 - Still a great show. Lots of cute moments. I think season 1 was better and Minato is irritating me quite a bit with his insecurities and pulling away. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me personally but I still like the show and will finish it out.
7. Stay By My Side - Not Taiwan's best, and the main pairing is a bit awkward in their kissing imo but I still the show is very fun and they are cute.
8. Laws of Attraction - Interesting-ish plot. A few pairings to root for. There is def. some boring parts and issues I have with the show but I am still liking it.
9. Be Mine Superstar - I find the plot of this one pretty boring TBH but I freaking love JaFirst. It's not their best series and I find Ja's character pretty awkward. But it's watchable.
10. The Wedding Plan - This plot is weird. Don't get the fake marriage or why the main guy can't be honest. I think the chemistry is alright but not overwhelming. I am not fully invested but its a short series and I wanna see how it goes.
11. Jun and Jun - ehhhh idk about this one guys. I can't get into it. I wanted to, but office romances aren't for me, and I think this one is especially boring. I like the chemistry between the main two but I find a lot of their moments a bit uncomfortable and there is a lack of consent in a lot of areas. Not Korea's best.
12. Stay Still- Not even sure what I am watching but its so short so I'm just kinda skimming.
On Hold:
1. I Feel You Linger in the Air
2. Lost in Translation
Tried the pilots of these and they felt very slow so I had to put them on hold for now and may come back to them later or if I hear good things about them.
Recently Finished:
1. Stay With Me - For anyone with doubts, this is definitely a BL. Some sweet kisses (though not on the lips) and lots of flirting and innuendo. A terrible ending but it'll apparently get a season 2, so I'll hold out. I genuinely loved this series!
2. Sing My Crush - Not big on musical plots and I found the storyline here a bit boring and like I'd seen it before, but it was okay. The main couple was very cute. Didn't love it as much as everyone else, but it was still good and worth the watch
EXTRAS:
Advance Bravely - Not currently airing. It's also I think technically a bromance but there are def. suggestive moments and scenes and I find the chemistry really good an entertaining so I'm enjoying it.
Catch Me Baby - Not currently airing. Only watched 1 ep and had to skim it, I found it very weird. I'm only really watching for Net/James.

[Series Review] Yu Yu Hakusho (2023)
9/10
As I have said before, I am always apprehensive in watching live actions so I'm also late to this one.
The anime was part of my childhood but since it was dubbed in our own language, they also changed the name of the series and the characters. Maybe so younger kids would remember them better. And I can't remember when I learned the Japanese title of this anime as well as when I learned the characters' Japanese names (or did I even learn them?)
First off, I watched this because I liked the actor who played Urameshi Yusuke, Kitamura Takumi. I have seen his other works and I've always liked the way he acted. And I think he captured the essence of being Urameshi in this one. They removed most of the funny scenes but he still managed the few comedic timing needed.
Uesugi Shuhei, who played Kuwabara Kazuma (a name I just learned by watching this), in my opinion, was the second best casting choice in this series. He was funny and he looked good. I couldn't believe the live action would let him serve looks as well as he did. And the chemistry he had with Kitamura's Yusuke was also something I liked.
Shison Jun playing Kurama was maybe the least one I liked. His acting was okay but maybe I didn't get the Kurama vibes from him. Maybe I had a different notion of how this character was when I watched the anime so there were a lot of moments I found myself thinking some scenes would have been better.
But that's okay because my favorite character, Hiei, was played by none other than Hongo Kanata and this actor has been in my radar since he portrayed other characters in other live actions. His whole being exuded Hiei as I remembered him.
But the best one for me was Go Ayano, who played Toguro. It was a surprise because I just saw him in one of his movies and he was spectacular there. I just loved the fact that he gave his own touch as the villain since I don't remember much about this character. I remember thinking how would they make his physical transformation look good and I'm glad with how they went about it (except that last one where he looked like dried meat, although it looked similar to the anime).
Overall, I was again pleasantly surprised with how good this looked. But I think the major factor was the nostalgia in watching it. There were moments I clearly remember but there were other scenes that made me go "Oh right, there was that" or "Did that happen?"
A fun tidbit: when I was a child, I liked Yusuke and Botan together even though I know they weren't the pairing. An added point to this live action was me rooting for Keiko right from the beginning. So there's that.

ZAK I WAS ON WEIBO AND I SAW SOME THEORIZING.
People are saying that Marius' third solo SSR is hinting towards the existence of a "darker" marius, per se, and that this could be the angst in the prologue.
From what I can tell, those comments are saying that the Marius illustration (with shattering glass) is from a dream. A dream that apparently, both of us are in. The game hinted towards Marius having had that dream for a long time. (desperately trying to avoid spoilers as i say this)
I'm planning to watch this card soon, but I'm just thinking. The prologue. Painting of crying Rosa. Marius' disappearance.
The implication of a darker Marius also comes with the implication that he's falling more and more in love with us, but in the growing obsession way.
And wouldn't that be something worth crying over?
Just the potential of watching him, knowing him before, knowing him this whole time, and knowing he wasn't like this before but being completely unable to stop him. and the guilt of the thought that "Marius wasn't like this before he met me, so if he never met me, this probably wouldn't have happened."
The possibility of this deeply obsessive marius, this marius who wouldn't let us go makes me vibrate in excitement but at the same time, NOOOOOOOOO LET HIM GO BACK TO THE INNOCENT BABY HE WAS.
irt the most beautiful tot illustration ever
first off, anon bless u for giving so much information with minimal amounts of spoilers. ive been Very curious about this card, specifically this illustration's context, ever since i saw it! but as far as i know there arent any full translations out so i will patiently wait for that so i can eat it up all in one go ahsjfhavkj, so this is Much Appreciated :DDD
second off,
Tumblr media
PAIN....SUFFERING,,,,ANGUISH!!!!!!
i mentioned this in a previous response that im not too big on theorizing nor on checking out other theories (just a personal thing idk, my brain isnt big enough for theories HAHA) BUUUUTT
he concept of a darker marius is SO interesting to think about because....hell, hes already talked about that himself
he mentions in it main story 7.1, that if he didnt get lucky with the life he got, if he didnt get lucky with a family that truly loved and cared about him, if his life were worse or crueler or sharper, marius told mc that he could see himself succumbing to the same kind of darkness jun had succumbed to.
this is already something hes outright admitted: his heart is good and hopeful now, but if things get worse, hes scared of what he might be pushed to do.
additionally, marius' darkness manifesting as over obsession is SO GOOD to me because YES. EXACTLY. THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE to me for 2 slightly different but nonetheless connected reasons:
reason 1
it's like The Obsessed Artist trope but...with a twist. the traditional Obsessed Artist is one that meets their self destruction on an impossible journey to perfect their creative craft. with a darker marius, i think it's more of him meeting his self destruction in perfecting himself and his love/relationship.
if life gets terrible and horrible and bad, he would want to keep this part of his life beautiful, unknowingly destroying himself and everything that made his relationship beautiful. which loops back in nicely with the crying painting of mc in the intro: it's a beautiful picture, but shes in pain
and as the artist of that image, marius created that.
reason 2
even without thinking of a darker timeline, the roots for over-obsession are already within our current wonderful marius whom we love so much:
so many people have betrayed him already in his life, which causes trust issues and difficulties
so many people have already left his life (his mom passing away and giann still being missing), which causes intense abandonment issues and the fear of people leaving.
with those already in place (and already things he struggles with normally) it makes a lot of sense for a dark!marius to go the route of over-obsession. if life gets terrible and horrible and bad, he stops trusting new people completely, may even to an extent stop trusting the people who are already on his side. but the people on his side cant leave, he wont let them, he cant be left alone and hes going to make sure they stay.
like, all the pieces are there. while im not into theorizing, this is great food for thought for aus or fic or just understanding deeper what exactly marius was so afraid of succumbing to, when he told mc back in main story 7 about how fear of becoming somebody like jun if his circumstances were worse....
....very interesting to think about, all in all. also painful, btw. dont forget the pain. JHVKJSVFJKHSDF

happy birthday HYEONGJUN ♡ 30 nov 2002 ✧ click for full quality, and please, do not repost. ✧ credits and creator’s note below the cut.
⏤ credits !! . fonts used: bm jua, arial black . mockups: x, x, x , x . brushes & textures: x , x . photos from cravity members official twt
⏤ creator’s note :: i think all of us have had the experience of first laying eyes on a bias and being like, where have you been all my life you are so for ME it's insane ... that was my experience with hyeongjun, i'm pretty sure only mere hours before cravity had their comeback in the spring with 'adrenaline' (thanks ro), and since then i've become a hardcore luvity and even more certain that juni and i were meant to find each other. i was first drawn to squishy cheeks and magnetic stage presence, excitable energy, and the otherworldly cuteness hyeongjun exudes; but he's much more than the performance he puts on. when i finally worked up the courage to watch pdx, it was clear why he was a fan favorite, and even more clear why he made so much sense for me as someone who always tends to root for the kids that things don't come easy to. i see jun work hard every day to challenge people's expectations of him, and even his own perceptions of his abilities. he doesn't want to be placed in a box - the world is far too big and opportunities are limitless. but he also never forgets his roots, his home in tongyeong, his first dance teacher who he still keeps in touch with, and his family who is so loving and lively and has fought fiercely alongside him in order to live his dreams. you can see his passion and love for what he's doing when he dances on stage or just for fun on vlive. you can see how much he doubts himself sometimes but how he pushes through anyways. you can see how loved he is, and how much brightness he brings to his members. i admire hyeongjun for all that he is, for showing his true self and his heart even when he isn't entirely sure of it, even when he doesn't think it's good enough. i wish i could tell him that it always is, always has been, and always will be. though i've only known him less than a year, i have a feeling we're in it for the long haul. i'm not even remotely surprised that our birthdays are within days of each other - i think juni and i are a lot alike, and that makes me incredibly proud, because he's incredibly special. happy birthday to my little sunshine, who looks like a doll but is so very beautifully human, my beloved junibear ♡

random thoughts about castaway diva, episode nine
(read more because i always get carried away lol and this post might contain spoilers)
Seeing bo geol confront his father reminds me of that time he blew up and shouted at him, telling him how he wished he left the family alone. He's courageous enough to face him and hopefully get rid of him. I'm still scared for him but he's the only one in the family who is able to do so. Even when he was a teenager, he was the one who told the truth to his father. Both the mom and the older brother were too scared of mr jung. It's heartbreaking to see him go there alone, even though he has a support system now. He doesn't want them to be hurt. Plus, add to that he's the one in the family who spent the longest time with mr jung. I'm rooting for him. I'm sure he can find a way to make the father leave them alone, but I'm still scared about his safety.
It's interesting how ki ho's decision to meet with mr jung was influenced by mok ha's words, stating how she was sad when her father p*ssed aw*y... It's also incredibly kind of her to put herself in her father's shoes, explaining how he too had a harsh past. Mok ha really is kind and empathetic. Even though she was a victim of ab*se, she still tries to defend her father, perpetrator of said ab*se.
And now we see bo geol repeat mok ha's words to his father. He said he should've lived a happier life and ignored his son who abandoned him. Manipulative behavior from the dad who keeps putting all the blame on his family, when he's the one that pushed them away because of his ab*sive behavior.
I'm so proud of my boy ki ho for outsmarting his biological father. But sad at the same time that he had to use such measures to prove he's been ab*sed for such a long time 💔 .
I find it sad that mok ha puts yoon ran joo before herself and she's willing to bow down at her and take all the criticism just because she's admired her for such a long time. Where is the fighting spirit she had when facing people like lee seo jun? I just want her to fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a singer. No matter how close she is to ran joo, i don't want her to be so weak in front of her. She can stand up for herself. Mok ha has always been faithful and an incredible support system for ran joo. And to see ran joo take advantage of that by using harsh words directed at mok ha is hurting me too. I find it so unfair.
But at the same time (should become my catchphrase atp), I do understand how ran joo feels because she's been betrayed by a previous artist with a similar path to mok ha's (my bet's on that man is now eun mo rae's manager). She doesn't want to be disappointed a second time. It's true that she put her all into that artist and she now knows the consequences of such actions. However, that doesn't mean it'll be the same for mok ha. They could've sat down and had an adult conversation about mok ha's sudden decision.
Both women are suffering (for different reasons) which is why they're both emotional most of the time. But they're also two of the strongest women i've seen so I hope they make up and start anew with a better mindset.
Me? Don't mind me I'm being emotional because ki ho was finally strong enough to be vulnerable around mok ha. After such a long time putting up a front and acting like nothing happened, he's freeing himself of all that emotional burden that's been there for far too long. Also, we finally see mok ha comfort him after he was the one comforting her when they were kids 💗💗💗 I AM EMOTIONAL :(((
Ah, I was wrong Mok ha told him he'll never see mr jung again because she was the one who was going to take care of him. Now i'm scared for mok ha... Stop playing with my heart please!!!
I knew it! Eun mo rae's manager was the artist who gave up. I'm glad they gave him a backstory and gave us an explanation as to why he seems so harsh and cold.
Yoon ran joo still feels sorry for mok ha and wants what's best for her. I hope they can make up and mok ha starts thinking about herself too.
Seeing mok ha choose rnj ent and standing up for herself is a great thing to see. I really hope ran joo can be a part of her project.
I'm pretty sure stagnant water is either eun mo rae's manager. Edit: and i was right!
So happy to have so many mok ha singing moments. Park eun bin's voice is no joke.
I knew lee uk was doing something behind everyone's back when he overheard that bo geol went to see mr jung. I don't know what but I'm curious to find out.
BO GEOL RUN TO HELP MOK HA AND YOUR MOM THEY'RE IN DANGER!!!
First you're leaving me on a cliffhanger and now you're giving me that preview? How can I wait for the next episode? HOW???
I'll give this episode a 8.5/10

Idk why people insist on Kazuya being a protag in this game when it's clear as day this is Jin's story + his mother coming back. I also feel like they want to see Tek6!Jin again for some insane reason but thankfully that train wreck won't happen this time.
Harada was the sole one who wanted Jin to be a villain. Literally the writers all argued against him. It's one of the reasons why his depiction in Tek6 is so sloppy and inconsistent. (Him being unnecessarily cruel to Alisa and then moments later saying "I did it for the greater good :(") - due to creative differences, and both Harada and the writers couldn't agree on what Jin's character should be and it forced them to come up with this awkward compromise that doesn't work at all. And even now, it's clear Harada realized what a mistake it was to make Jin a villain. Maybe because of how awkward Tekken 6's writing was, but mostly because of the backlash this decision received. Like the writers, most fans agreed Jin shouldn't have become a villain because it's boring (rehash of Kazuya) and also goes against what Jin's character was.
And Tekken 8 has been REALLY hammering that Jin's the good guy again. Not just with him going against Kazuya who's literally destroying the streets - but also just some of his win animations. The way he looks at the camera and say "I shall never stray again" and telling Lars, "I'll take it from here" (a direct reference of Jin becoming the main protagonist because Lars was once his replacement.) Even if Jin may have moments in the game where he nearly loses himself over the devil gene, they're definitely not gonna do a switcharoo in the end. Hell, it's far more likely that Azazel will be the final boss than it would be for Jin. Especially because if they had gotten backlash for Jin in Tekken 6 (as Harada had even acknowledged once) - they're not gonna risk backlash again.
I think a lot of certain fans want to see Tek6!Jin again because that's the biggest scapegoat / strawman that toxic Kazuya fanboys could use. The ones who desperately want Kazuya back as a protagonist would always point to Tek6 to show that Jin is actually "worse" than both Heihachi and Kazuya, and then say how it makes him the true antagonist, and how Kazuya should be the protag again. Now that Tek8 is making Jin a good guy again (and HOPEFULLY will retcon a lot of Tek6) - they don't really have that argument anymore. Jin being Tek6!Jin is the only way they can have Kazuya be the more "morally correct" one in this situation. (Which everyone missed the point if they were rooting for Kaz in Tek6, too. Kaz may have not started the war, but he certainly wasn't opposing Jin out of the kindness of his heart.)
And like, Kaz can totally be "redeemed" in the story by Jun still without making Jin Le Villain. I've even seen ppl say fucking Hwoarang should help Kaz fight Jin and I'm like what????? Why???? (The excuse is usually because of Tekken 5 / Tekken 6 events) and it's like. There's already been implications that Hwoarang doesn't see DJ as Jin, thus doesn't blame Jin. And like yeah... there's the Tekken 6 shit. But even fucking Lars is acting buddy-buddy with Jin in Tekken 8. So it could be like what I'm hoping for, Tekken 6 is gonna get retconned to some degree. (In a way that doesn't put Jin at fault. By either doing my excuse that the Devil was indeed in full control and Jin wasn't aware, or Azazel was brainwashing him)

What happends if Mc like also Yandere
And obsession with them what their reaction?
(For this I'm gonna write like the reader is Yani levels of yandere, also none of these talk about Yani's identity theft just cause in these you don't feel the need to change your appearance cause they so obviously like YOU! other then Aki but like Aki doesn't like anyone else so there's no reference to who you'd copy)
Minato: Well Minato isn't super yandere so he's...disturbed by some things. He gets you stalking him, he just excuses it by saying you're watching out for him which he finds cute and endearing. But he doesn't really like the murdering, still he likes you so he tries to excuse it and ignore it, but he just can't. He doesn't like violence. It'd be different if you were just intimidating people, but you're harming and killing them. He'll sit you down and talk to you about it, hoping you'll stop the violence.
Haruto: He likes it <3 At first he was disturbed with the stalking, thought that it was someone who was after him, but was pleasantly surprised when he found out it was you. He lets you stalk him happily and will definitely do teasing things if he knows you're watching. If you kidnap him, then he's fine with that, he'd prefer it to be the other way around though, and he'll tell you as such. Doesn't bat an eye at the killing, asks if you're alright though, checks your hand just in case the knife slipped and you cut your hand by accident, patches you up if it happened.
Jun: The stalking scared Jun at first honestly, she thought it was a crazy fan, but she's so happy it turned out to be you! Now whenever she feels like she'd being stalked, she just invites you inside so you guys can hang out together! Doesn't mind being kidnapped by you at all, she lets you and just sits there on her best behavior, letting you pamper her. Like you wanna be around him THAT much that you kidnap him? That's literally so cute! Jun has to be in a pretty bad state of mind for her to get violent or even enjoy violent thing, the killing is definitely a concern for her. She doesn't want you getting bloody or hurt on top just not liking blood and violence. BUT! If you DO get hurt or Jun's mental state is bad, you two are a scary killing combo.
Hoshi: Hoshi doesn't stalk you much nor does Hoshi like being stalked, even if it's you doing it. Seriously, if you want to hang out with them, just go up to them. Doesn't mind being kidnapped on one condition, he doesn't need to be tied up. He's not super big on feeling restrained, but he'll stay with you. Although he might try to talk to you about going outside, being inside all day is so boring to him! Okay, LOVES when you get aggressive with others. Best hype man. He'll root for you and might even join in! All in all, there's a few inconveniences he doesn't like, but he likes you. As long as you two can negotiate, everything will be fine.
Habiki: Doesn't noticed he's being stalked honestly. I think even if he were to catch you, he would just think "Oh, they're heading this way too, cool." and go about what he was doing. Isn't sure how to feel about being kidnapped. On one hand, it's you and they like you and also he's out of that job he hates, and on the other hand, he feels he has even LESS freedom then before. I think Habiki would also try to negotiate with you. No ropes and he gets to go out as long as you're by his side. Honestly, after the behavior you displayed prior, he doesn't even bat an eye when you get violent. Though, if you get hurt he'll join in and then patch you up afterwards. He just kinda lets you do whatever.
Kage: He found out you were stalking him when both of you happened to be stalking each other. It was so awkward and embarrassing, Kage wished the ground would swallow him whole. Doesn't even think about you stalking him, just humiliated he got caught. Is so shocked when he got kidnapped, by you no less! Like, someone wants him? and YOU'RE that someone????? Is really flattered and can't get over it. He just lets you do anything, he finds it comforting. Is pretty surprised when you get aggressive with another person. He's weak and has never really been exposed to straight up violence so seeing you get aggressive and be strong was a surprise to him. Still, as much as he admires your strength, he'll stop you. If you ask him why he'll just say there's other ways to ruin people's lives like it's the most normal thing in the world.
Kei: At first when he finds out you're stalking him, he also makes excuses, like that you just happened to be heading the same way as him and your eyes locked. Gets overjoyed when he finds out that's not the case and that you're actually meaning to look at him. It gives him courage and motivation to approach you. If you kidnap him, he doesn't mind, but he'd prefer to be at his place with you. He doesn't really like change. He'll happily lead you to his place while his hands are still tied up. He'd also rather pamper you, so he'd kinda prefer free roam of his house, but if you refuse then he just shrugs it off and lets you do whatever you want. He doesn't mind seeing you get violent, but mentally destroying your opponent he finds works better, of course with Kei being the over-achiever he is, is skilled at both.
Yani: Probably found out you were stalking her the same way Kage did. She smiled at you as she caught you, wrapping her arms around you and telling you she loves you, gently biting your cheek before pressing a kiss to it. If you continue to stalk her, she'll tease you before approaching you so you two can hang out together. Isn't used to the positive attention, but really enjoys it! Is so so SO happy to get kidnapped by you. Makes no effort to even try to escape, she just stays there, once again enjoying the pampering. Don't let the dog loose bruh, together you two will demolish the planet, the galaxy, the universe.
"W̷̛͚͎̋͑̅̂͊͒̿̏ǫ̴̧̢̛͔̮̰̩͖̘̿́͛͗̎u̷̦̺̯͒̅̄l̴̨̞͎̣̰̝̗͔̞͕̀͒͌d̸̨̲̳̦̯̣̪̦͋̅́̔́́̔͂̾ͅ ̷̞̲͑̈́̈́̊̇͂̀̑̐ŷ̵̯̹̥͕̯̜̬̣̺̖̈́̎̚o̶̞̭̞͖̼̟̥͖͛̀̌̿̈́̒̀͘ǘ̵̖̼̈́́̅͌̕͝ ̴̢͓̰͓̭̯̊̀̚a̴̲͙̒̀̅̓́č̴̬͕͋͗̏̊͆̈́͆̓̇t̶̪͉̲̙͐̍͂u̸̝͙̘̥̔͛͗̉̎ä̷̙̥̪̲́͋̓̑̐͑̄͗͒͘͜ḽ̷̛̺̙̫̮̈̐̂͘̚l̶̡̛͈̓̆͑y̷̳̭̮̮̟̌́̓͌̒̇͒ ̷̛̫̖̬͓̀̓̄̑̉̾k̸̛̝͚̜̟̪̩̆̔̑̀̏̆͜ị̴̩̱̗̉̀̆ḏ̶̛͚̹̮̬̩̣̔͒̒̀͌̍̐͜͝ņ̵̯͍̜̇͆̂́͑̔̃̚à̵̧̢͕̯̺͕͔͓̗̯̍͗̑̏͘͘͝͠p̵̞̽͆̊̓̀̑̀̚̚ ̸̯͕̔̑̉m̷̧̨͈̝̝̳̅̌́͊̾̀̒͜͜͠e̴̞̯͈̯̝͈͕̲̠̕ͅ ̸̞͍̫̫͚̜̥͗̉l̸̡̩̖̣͙̙̦̼̮̰̽͛͂̓i̵̲͙̐̀̃k̴̺̼̂͆̽͊̐́̉͌͘̕e̶̡͍̫̫̳̯͇̹͇͗̒̉̅ ̵̛̼̮̩̣͉t̵̢͍̜̹͉̯̠͛͑̐͘h̶͇̟̥͇̹̗̒̃̈̅̈̿͌̽͑͠ͅi̵̡̧̱̙͙̹̝̅͗̉͊͌̀̓̒̎̕s̴̱̈͒̎̄̈̌̚͠ ̸͕́͌̾̌͑͜ỉ̷̧̠̣̻͗͊̆́̃̆͆̄f̵̛̛͈͗̃̿̌̾̽ ̴̝̗̓̌̈́̍̈̌̒̐̏͜y̷̨̦̝̥̯̾̽̊̔͊̈́ơ̸̳͔̒͗ù̴͎͎͎̟̈͘ ̸̡̨̘̯́̈́̓̈́̑͋͝c̸̢̜̥̺̗̯̟̘̱͊̈̀͛̕ȏ̸̮ȗ̴̡͓͈̙̺͖̪̰͚͇́̑͝l̶͉͇̮̖̥͇̝̻̊͘ͅď̴̅͜?̸̟̂̔͐̐͂̈́͜͝͝"
Aki: Aki is disturbed honestly. Just 100% disturbed. Her childhood friend that she grew up with, spent so much time with, got to know, turned out to be really REALLY creepy. Hates when she finds out you've been stalking her. Finds it so unnecessary. If you wanted to see her and spend time with her, just ask. She tries to make excuses for it though, like maybe you just felt shy, or felt worried that she would reject you. She can't make any excuses for you when you kidnap her or get aggressive for her. It scares her when you kidnap her, she wants to go home, she wants to be done with this all. She wants you to get better, but if you won't, then she'll cut you out of her life and move somewhere far FAR away from you.

thoughts while watching Happy Merry Ending (episodes 1-3)
Episode 1:
I like the opening sequence with his upstairs neighbor in his bed. Though my blood pressure is elevated from the second-hand-stress of oversleeping. His neighbor is cute. And has a crush on him? I suspect I will end up with major second lead syndrome for this guy. Especially because I'm feeling a little iffy about the pianist. I liked the instantaneous spark of attraction between them, and the pianist immediately going "so yeah as we just discussed I'll be here permanently now." But his pushiness irritated me and I'm finding it hard to want him to win the uke's love. I guess with this short KBL runtime there's no time for a more gentle pursuit? But it makes me root for the patient friend (even if I don't know yet if that's an option).
The wedding hall is gorgeous! And looks extremely expensive lol. I find it a mild faux pas when they are showing live performers on screen but there are instruments in the soundtrack that are not in the scene. I suppose they could have used a backing track; for my own peace of mind I will pretend that was it. Another pet peeve: calling what I assume had to be anti-anxiety meds "anti-depressants." Which are not going to be any use in a panic attack. I will chalk that up to translation issues. But the dinner was so stressful and I don't even have a panic disorder. Leave my poor boy alone!
I'm still in a judgy mood, sorry. But I am intrigued. And visually it's all beautiful. Cinematography-wise I mean. And also the surfer upstairs neighbor. (Arms!)
Episode 2:
Jae Hyeon is winning me over with his respectful care-taking of drunk Seung Jun. I'll chalk up his earlier pushiness to plot necessity and not who he is at heart. And smashed Seung Jun is kinda adorable.
I like the implication that Jae Hyeon is either a player or falls in and out of love at the drop of a hat. The dynamic with his employees is fun, and miraculously not annoying in the way I usually find co-workers gossiping about the main characters relationship? It feels natural to the coffee shop setting and not a plot device.
My curiosity is piqued with this dancing idol. And I like seeing Seung Jun more relaxed! He has a lovely smile. Deciding just how much of your weird brain you want to reveal to the cute guy: relatable. My first instinct was alarm, but actually double texting the person who was blackout drunk the night before to make sure they're ok is reasonble. And he apologized for being intrusive with his questions. I liked the moment when he reaches out to stop Seung Jun and then his shocked by his own forwardness. It makes him seem like someone with a huge crush rather than a creep.
Uh oh. This flashback seems like bad news. Abusive ex? Seung Jun is all smiles in the scene but I'm getting controlling abuser vibes from this guy. Oh, he was a cheater, it seems? That's probably a wise choice; less heaviness to reckon with in these ten short episodes.
Episode 3:
Ho Yeon (the sexy neighbor) is hot and supportive, but has silly ideas about how love (and trauma) works. Viki, why won't you let me screenshot him sweaty and half naked? Oh, I see, this boy knows how hot he is. Literal thirst trap lol.
Love that they have this voice student not realize that the idol she's watching on her phone is standing right in front of her. Also, I presume "your face is the size of my fist" is a compliment about a small head, but, uh. Sounds like a threat lmao.
Now I want cake. Umm. Are we really advocating stalking? 😬 Jae Hyeon you BETTER not be considering it.
Lol Seung Jun not recognizing this poor boy. Oh no! Is the idol's CEO the creepy ex? 🫣
OH FUCK OFF STALKER EX. This actor is doing an excellent job giving off subtly rancid vibes. And I'm intrigued by how it seems like they'll dig into how aggressive seme-uke pursuit is and isn't like stalking. For me, Jae Hyeon keeps toeing the line of going too far, but on balance comes across as an endearing dork with a crush. Which I think is also the reaction Seung Jun is having to him, so it's working for the story so far.
This is a tricky topic for a BL, and I'm not confident they'll manage it (or that it's even what they're trying to do), but I keep being surprised.

[Without Envy ]- Snippet [11]
Extra excerpts from the last installment of Without Envy. I suggest you go read the last installment first and click back to this post; it'll make more sense!
---
"Xichen you're confusing the eunuchs." Nie Mingjue noted offhandedly during luncheon one day.
It's been months since the end of the war, and for months, Lan Xichen hasn't set foot in Meng Yao's court once. There were gossips and rumours everywhere in the palace, rumours about Meng Yao's past, rumours about his manipulation of the Emperor, rumours about how he had finally been found out for the conniving fox that he was and that he has lost the Emperor's favour forever.
"How do you mean?" Replied Lan Xichen without meeting his consort's eyes, picking up another piece of the candied lotus root stuffed with sticky rice.
"I heard that you punished several servants quite severely yesterday for a minor transgression."
"It was not a minor transgression." Lan Xichen rebutted. "The nuçais from neiwu-fu were significantly delayed in their monthly provisions for the harem for absolutely no reason, despite multiple attempts from the harem's servants to obtain these provision on behalf of their master." (neiwu-fu = a bureau within the imperial palace in charge of providing for the daily living of the harem)
This was a true account of what had happened. After it was known that Lianfang-jun Meng Yao had a sordid past and that the Emperor had not visited him months, most people working in the palace assumed that it was only a matter of time before Meng Yao would be stripped of his titles and cast to the Cold Palace, or worse, sentenced to prison for treason. Naturally most servants and officials began rescinding their deference and kindness which they once paid to him as a beloved concubine of his majesty.
Most assumed Lan Xichen could care less.
Most were wrong.
The Emperor was livid when he found out that the servants had been mistreating his concubine Lianfang-jun, and had them planked for good measures. All the missed provisions were sent to Lianfang-jun's court, along with many other gifts.
So now everyone was undoubtedly confused.
"Are you not even going to say his name?" Nie Mingjue was not the one to roll his eyes, but he wanted to at the moment, very much.
"...I'm still mad at him." Lan Xichen grumbled, or at least, doing what was his version of grumbling.
"I know you feel that you were his puppet on strings -"
"I was his puppet on strings! Was I anything but a shadow - a shade - within which he could hide himself and his...his..."
Calling it 'brilliance' was too much a praise for Lan Xichen to say in his current state of turmoil.
"I must've seemed such a fool to him. Poor naive Zewu-di, too soft to be allowed to rule on his own." Lan Xichen lowered his chopsticks onto the table with a soft clang, and finally dropped his face into his hand.
"I trusted him. I thought I knew him. I thought he trusted me. I thought he loved me -"
"Xichen -"
"I am a fool, aren't I, Da'ge? You think so too, and Uncle, or else you would not help A-Yao in his machinations."
Nie Mingjue reached across the table and touched Xichen's shoulder, giving his husband prompt to take his hand and squeeze it. His sight has improved over the years, but still he could not see more than shadows and lights.
"You are not a fool, Xichen. Kind, yes. But not a fool. Meng Yao is, objectively, more brilliant than you and I combined. More complicated too. Took me years and losing a set of eyes to really understand him." Head shaking, Nie Mingjue gave a wary smile. "You must know by now that he was gifted to me by a pandering official. His life before...made him who he is. Perhaps a part of that was always part of him."
Nie Mingjue paused, more comtemplative with his words than was usually known of his character.
His Da'ge has changed, realized Lan Xichen. Being away from the palace, from him, changed the love Lan Xichen knew since they were boys. It occurred to him that even though Mingjue has been away from him, he's never been away from Meng Yao.
Living without the pomp and circumstance of the royal family, in each other's complete confidance, what kind of bond that kind of unfettered understanding must make. Xichen was a witness to it now...
...And he was envious.
"A-Yao has a vicious spirit, it's true." Nie Mingjue continued to say. "But over time I've come to see that he also has an ambivalent heart, which I still don't fully understand or...condone. I believe he is fully capable of burning the world to the ground to rule over the ashes, but I also believe he chooses everyday not to. That choice must mean something."
Nie Mingjue's eyes, though he could not see very well, were bright, smiling. Lan Xichen caressed the calloused hand in his, lips quivering as he brought it forth to upon it a gentle kiss.
"Thank you, Da'ge."
"Go see him, hm?"
Lan Xichen nodded.
"Mn."

Bustafellows - The romance in Mozu's route - Discussion
After chatting with @ymthkrs a few weeks back, I knew I would have to replay Mozu Shepherd's route in Bustafellows. Because I got way too curious about if there was any real romance build up in Side A.
I binged the whole thing in a week, but good grief, it kinda feels like a fever dream because I barely remember half the mental rants I went on while playing this game and I very much regret not writing these things down and/or taking more screenshots to remember them by. (I have no idea what's wrong with me lately, being unable to recall so many things I read or unable to invest myself in stories and characters. I don't know what health issue is the root or if it's a mix or if the seasonal depression is making that worse, but any way you spin it, it's crap.) So I'll ramble on, pretending I know how to evaluate this character and route. Hell, I've done one Jun Fukuyama character ramble; bet I can do it again. XD
SO! Here's my final verdict: romance if you squint.
Before I get into it, I'll put a disclaimer that I'm reading into everything, searching for this romance here. This is my opinion; I'm not claiming to be an expert. With that, let's dive in.
Let's start all the way back in the common route. Where we have Mozu's first choice. If you end up choosing "hope to meet her", I feel this is the point where we're breaking open into Mozu's heart. Let me be clear, this is still friendship at this point, no romance yet. But this is where he feels more open to talking about his sister with her. Because she's shown investment and interest, and I feel that, at least, this opens up a strong friendship door for Mozu.
This is important, because Mozu then begins opening up more about Yuzu specifically to Teuta. He does not do this with any of the other guys, I'm assuming, despite them knowing of the circumstances surrounding Mozu's sister. Teuta is the one that shows interest and is open to talking about it, meaning Mozu feels freer to talk about it. You see that in the way he wants to head to the school and open up further about Yuzu to her.
Furthermore, Teuta is constantly supporting Mozu's search for Yuzu. Once again, investing in ways that no one else does because he feels like it's a him issue, not to burden any of the other guys with. But here Teuta is, taking up that burden to help him.
Now, I know what you're all thinking. Yes, this is very friendship-y. And at this point that's just about all there is. However, if you read into this, you could say this is a beginning of Mozu opening up and relying on Teuta for things involving this very personal problem for him. I'd dare say Teuta has become Mozu's closest friend right around here.
Next, we have a minor thought here of when Teuta and Mozu are probing the school for rumors. Mozu asks Teuta to take the lead here, since he's a little socially awkward and she's better at this than him. Now, as someone who's a little socially awkward, having a friend you can rely on to take the lead in this situations like this is an immense comfort.
SO! So far, we have Mozu finding support from Teuta AND comfort in Teuta. Now, I cannot speak for Mozu, but for someone who is socially awkward with people and has few friends, I find people like that very precious and typically want to form a tight bond with. Friends I don't want to let go of because that's very special. This is where I could start to see were the lines of friendship and something more would blur from here on out.
Then, we go on to picking up Mozu from the coroner's on that rainy day where he's upset because he couldn't save the puppy. And Teuta there is once again there to offer comfort to him, allowing him to talk things out and make sure he's not alone as he faces death and questions it once again. But then Teuta runs out into the rain to grab the mother dog and put it in a box to bring inside. And you see how much that distressed Mozu when she did.
Tumblr media
He panicked over her bolting out into the rain. Which could be an indication that he cared as a friend, but do you see him doing that with any of the guys? (Granted, it could be because she's a girl, but one could ALSO argue he has a different kind of relationship with Teuta because she's a girl.) However, he becomes happy when he realizes she's brought in the dog out of the cold. And I feel like it's because she's related to him in that way. She understands him, even though he knows he walks at a different speed from everyone else. Yet here's Teuta, bringing in the dog to get it out of the rain for Mozu's sake and feeling sad for the death of the dog. She never questions Mozu as he's stitching up a dead dog's wounds, either. She just stands there beside him in support as he does his thing. I feel like that would mean a lot to Mozu, to the point where it's possible that in his mind, those lines of friendship and romance start to blur even more.
Or, on a more serious note here, we have the confusion of feelings. Because you have Teuta offering him these luxuries of comfort and companionship in the face of death, unwilling to leave him alone as he walks this morbid and lonely road twisting through his mind. So I feel it's possible that he's mixing up feelings in his mind of friendship with something else here due to the way he's processing the feelings and situations he's going through.
Next, we have the "You know Professor Troy is into you, right?" debacle. I honestly think he got unsettled by Helvetica's warning to Teuta about Troy being interested in her and how he'd flirt with her. Because this would be someone encroaching on Mozu's "comfort person" right now, if you will. Maybe by now, Mozu has some odd feelings that he's keeping hidden, or he doesn't understand what he's feeling and is just interpreting them as strong friendship. Either way, I think he feels obligated to "protect" her from Troy, or at the very least, observe Troy as he talks with Teuta. And I I think you can see he's distressed about it here because he cuts Teuta off mid-sentence.
Tumblr media
The moment she confirms his presence would be reassuring, he's gung-ho and ready to go. (Well, in his own way. XD) But either way, he takes the confirmation of getting to stay by her side and runs with it. And I think this is fairly easy to overlook for most people. (I overlooked it until I went back for a screenshot to write this thing. XD)
Furthermore, I feel like this is confirmed through Helvetica himself, as he chuckles at Mozu's "franticness" here. And then brushing off Limbo's playful chastisement of Helvetica teasing Teuta. Like, Helvetica knew what he was doing. Sure, he is nice enough to warn Teuta, but the bonus came from riling Mozu. Over a girl of all things.
Tumblr media
After the talk with Troy, Mozu probes Teuta of how she feels about him. He does point out Troy is interested in her, and he's clearly relieved to hear she doesn't like Troy in that way. Then, I think after Teuta thinks he's teasing her and chastises him for it, he feels a little embarrassed and tries to backtrack. By then, Teuta thinks he's acting a little odd, and that supports my thought that he is interested in her by this point, even if he doesn't fully understand what's going on with his feelings. He just wants to protect this very special friend of his (oh, holy night, I'm having Miraculous Ladybug "just a friend" flashbacks. XD How to know you've been in a fandom too long 101.) But I repeat, I think he's got some mixed feelings at this point, and Mozu is probably a little more in the "romance" category right now without realizing it.
The next point we've got is Mozu talking to Teuta instead of the cat. Now, he could just talk to the sleeping cat; after all, he's just working through his thoughts. He could do this alone. But no, he goes to Teuta and asks her to listen, even giving her a reason as to why she should listen. Which makes me question: Is he desperate to get her to listen because she's already provided comfort and support to him on multiple occasions? Does he realize his feelings yet? Is he working them out? I don't know quite what's going through his head, but it's clear he's very attached to her already.
Back on track, he goes and opens up to her fully. And she lends a listening ear before giving him comfort and support for the fact he's gone through trauma. And part of me wants to believe that he feels better because he talked to Teuta. Like, he actually worked through that moment of chaos not because he mentally completed his thoughts while alone but rather because he wasn't alone. He had someone at his side working through that with him. I can see how easy it would be for lines to blur at this point. Particularly with this line mentioned here. Is this friendship or is this something more?
Tumblr media
Then... oh geeeeez, the locker kabedon. Ughhh, okay, let's get through this. XD This is where I'd say Mozu actually has some semblance of feelings at this point. Because even though this is awkward as heck, Mozu is once again seeking comfort specifically from Teuta. The fact he comments that he's hoping to "stimulate his mind" by kabedonning Teuta does prove Mozu sees Teuta as a woman, not just as a friend who happens to be female. And my guess, if any of the above conjunctures are correct, Mozu subconsciously knows he can seek out Teuta for comfort and support. Yet another reason why he does this to Teuta. And after he realizes that physical thing isn't working, who is there to calm his mind other than Teuta, conversing with him and letting him lean on her for support.
Let's see... Next we have the JAMGO (which, by the way, seems WORSE than what a PROM would be like??? And where are the chaperones? Good grief. XD) But the part I want to bring up is after the fire situation. Yes Mozu rescues Teuta, gets to play the hero, but he's PISSED after the fact. Pissed because he was so distressed worrying over her. And the sheer anger that he shows might be because he loves her at that point and her actions really freaked him out because he can't stand to lose one more person who is so close to him. After all, he did shout that he was desperate to save her.
Then let's go to one of the last scenes, where he goes to her after everything has settled down. And Teuta is there to hold him. Once again, he seeks out her comfort and support here. She lets him cry, holds him as he does. He's never alone in these moments where he's faced with darkness and death. Instead, he has Teuta.
He's always had Teuta.
And this is where I think their romance was built. Ironically, to quote a different Jun Fukuyama character (Vyn Richter), this is the "suspension bridge affect" where in people fall in love in dramatic and intense situations due to the way their brain is stimulated at the time. So if Mozu's walking through trauma, his mind heavily stimulated the whole time, and oh look, guess who was there for him the whole time, I can see where the feelings of love can be formed. Ultimately, I feel like this romance of theirs is a friendship that was built up due to their heightened stimuli from the trauma they faced. Even after side A, when we get into side B, Mozu's confession is less an "I love you" but more of an "I like having you around and I really don't like when you're not with me." (we're ignoring the almost kiss, explaining it away as two people caught up in hazy emotions and acting upon impulses.)
And that makes perfect sense when considering that these two really did go from friends to close friends to lovers in a very short period of time. If you look hard enough from Mozu's slightly odd point of view, I think you can interpret him opening up to Teuta and finding stability in her throughout the route. So I don't think their romance doesn't exist here. Honestly, I think it's possible it does, but the writers didn't have the length (as all their stories are relatively short with a lot of information) to fully express that romance the way it maybe should have been expressed. They put these two characters through a lot of trauma in this route, so the romance was only there in hints and maybe not as realistic as it could have been. And how they got together so quickly after going through MASSIVE trauma (both of them, considering the bomb dropped on Teuta by Mozu at the end there) also felt a little too sudden to be realistic, but I understand they had to get together by New Year's and all. XD
But that's not to say I don't think they'd be okay even if their relationship started like this. Because ultimately, even though it was rushed and you have to read into it, I think this was a friends to lovers build up. They'd make it. :D They just have to continue communicating, but they find support and comfort in each other already, and as you see in Mozu's side B, Mozu really does want to talk with Teuta and understand her. The romantic feelings in side A kinda took a back seat to trauma, but that's exactly why I think their relationship works. Because they are less "romance partners", if you will, and more a support unit. And if you think about it that way, it makes their (potential) romance very sweet. :)
