OH BOY DO I HAVE FICS TO RECOMMEND!

"For he will not do destruction, if he is well fed" by greevianguy (greeviangirl). Basically in late season 4, Jon finds a cat at the institute and projects on it for 15127 words. It's really good and it made me cry.

"a deeply annoying child" by ajkal2. In season 3, Jon reads a Leitner that brings him back to himself immediately following his first supernatural encounter. It has kid!Jon, and Tim and Jon sort of not hating each other for a bit, and is an all round fantastic (and heartbreaking) read.

"Hands that Grasp (Arms that Hold)" by ComposerEgg. It's a second kidnapping fic, with bonus Scottish Safehouse!

"Contemplations: Regarding Love" by IceEckos12. It's actually a happy one! The Eyepocolypse doesn't happen and Jon and Martin get their happy ending. It's just really sweet and there's a slow dancing scene and it's just like hnrg /pos.

"hell is for children" by sunkelles. It's about the other domains where children were in the Eyepocolypse. My favourites are "a lotta true crime" and "a good kid who's had a bad run".

"where there's a will, we make it a way" by bubonickitten. It's a time travel fix it fic! It diverges from canon some time before MAG 187, and after the world's started to end end, people are dying at alarming rates, Jon goes back in time. He unfortunately only goes back in time to season 4. The characterization in this is amazing :3

"In this harsh world" by CirrusGrey. Or like. Pretty much anything by Citrus. This is post-181 so you can imagine the emotional toll, but they write happy things too and I just recommend you read all of their season 5 codas.

"ten thousand flowers in spring" by bluejayblueskies. It's an AU with gods and all that, Jon's grandmother dies and he takes a sabbatical in Scotland, and meets this really nice guy who's also a god, and who he doesn't realize is a god, and he's writing a book about gods, and it's all very funny and also quite heartfelt.

"rewind. play. eject." by boredshyandbi. It's a time loop!! After the events of MAG 200, Jon gets stuck in a time loop of MAG 39. It's really cool and like it's got so many Moments that stick in my brain forever.

"Countdown to Extinction" by starspangledbread. It's an Extinction!Jon fic! It's amazing actually I love it so much. Silly and goofy and then sometimes you're like oh god I'm Feeling Emotions???

"The Spider & The Eye" by pocketsizedquasar. Annabelle and Jon childhood friends AU!! I'm holding it gently.

"Jon and Friends" by mmmmph. There's Jon and Daisy! Jon and Gerry playing truth or dare! Jon and Melanie who could have been friends but they aren't and it's just really sad D:. Jon and Basira having a heart to heart! Jon and Tim pre-canon D:! Jon and Georgie and their relationship falling apart and it's like they could have been friends but they're not they're not. Jon and Not!Friends it should be called.

i'm going to be so serious i literally have so little gerry standalone fics because they are never well written. i've tried so much they're all bad. theres one where he fucking converts to christianity i am SO fucking serious rn. i read the whole thing because i was intensely curious and it ended with him going to a fucking church in america it was literally INSANE i HATED IT. maybe one day ill trudge through his tag, but. its also just full of him making a one-off appearance and never being a meaningful character so it doesn't feel worthwhile, really? meaningless standard trite that contains just the most bland takes and writing styles ever. also porn. and i dont. read that so... i have a lot more recommendations but they're all in that document or in the mentioned author's works! dm me whenever ill literally always wanna talk about gerry he specifically has been my special interest for... two years...

I don't know if you're familiar with Phillip Pullman's The Golden Compass, but this is basically a daemon AU of the canon storyline hehe

Out of all of the ones in here, it's actually the closest to being finished (just missing two and a half chapters) and it should be posted in its entirety in a couple weeks as part of the TMA Big Bang

I have... So many things to say about this AU, it's been something I wanted to write ever since I got into TMA and I finally got around to it!

She pulls out a small unconscious cat daemon, their fur black with white patches at the chest and the back legs, and arranges them carefully close -but not touching- her human, before she turns to them with bared teeth. 

"If you touch them, I will kill you," she snarls, before going back down into the remnants of the wax house.

"Well, that's unnecessary." Gerry sighs. "Come on, we should-" he cuts himself short then, because the dog daemon is back again, and her teeth are clamped down on the shoulder of a slender, shorter man. 

Gerry and Boni watch in stunned silence, as this daemon touches another human so purposefully, pulling him out until he's laying next to the cat daemon, which must be his, considering how even in unconsciousness they seem to curl towards the other.

"What do you want?" The dog daemon snarls again, standing over both humans with her fur standing on end.  And her teeth bared. She can't possibly be of the impression that she'll win a fight against Boni, Gerry thinks, not in her current state. But she seems very willing to go down biting.

BEFORE THE BEGINNING — three sentences (or more) about something that happened before the plot of my current project

Current WIP is my Gerry fic >:) it starts pretty early honestly so I guess this is....possible not ENTIRELY before the plot but pfsh technicalities,, timelines,,, what even are they. Enjoy!

The first time Mum takes him to one of her meetings, Gerry is excited. She’s always going off on her business trips, to book fairs and auctions, and Gerry is always left behind with a neighbor or a nanny — or even entirely on his own. It’s lonely, sometimes, and he’s awfully tired of reading to pass the time.

He didn’t realize that meeting would be the beginning of the worst years of his life. (Perhaps it was simply the rest of his life, in the end.)

Gerry is eight when he sees his first monster. It’s the same day he sees the Leitner that made it, this twisted and writhing mass of grasping hands and shifting eyes and a smile sharper than winter wind.

That day he feels true fear for the first time, rattling in his bones as his heart beats in stuttering terror and his breath hardens between his nose and his lungs. That day, Gerard Keay realizes that the world is nothing like he imagined, and he learns to hate the name of Jurgen Leitner.

(my brain is Not cooperating with me so apologies if this is The Worst Thing Ever, lol. I just have a lot of feelings,,, about Him.)

“You got off the train,” the man says, as soon as Martin is close enough to address. He looks confused. “I — why?”

“You did too,” Martin points out defensively, stopping a foot or two short. “And you were looking for me? Just now?”

“Yes,” the man says, no hesitation at all. “Why?”

Martin, baffled, opens his mouth and then closes it again. “I don’t know. Why do you think I would know?”

“Have we met before?” the other man says, scrutinising him closely. “You’re from London? Where?”

“Firstly,” Martin tells him, ticking off his fingers, “no, I’m not. Secondly, fuck off am I telling a stranger where I live. I have lived in London long enough to pick up that much, at least. Thirdly, who are you? And how do I know you?

“I -“ the man says, frowning. “I don’t know either. But I know you.”

The simple, assured way he says it kind of devastates Martin. Because the unshakeable confidence on it mimics the exact feeling that Martin himself is bizarrely, incomprehensibly experiencing — he knows this man, he knows this man — but it contrasts so sharply with the other inexorable truth of all this. That he does not — cannot, by any logic — know this man at all.

Fist off we have this lovely Jon/Gerry fic by @iceeckos12 ! This was my first read with this pairing, and it was amazing to say the least. Had me close to tears on multiple occasions, but was also comical in parts. Well balanced angst and fluff and a very tasty plot 👌 Definitely recommend reading the whole series.

Second off we have one I just picked up today, a Gerry/Michael fic by @meteormemoirs . It may be about Gerry and Michael at the core, but there's so much more to it. I'm not even halfway though and I'm in love with the writing style and how all the personalities are portrayed. *chef's kiss*

Last but certainly not least is this amazing Gerry/Michael + Jane Prentiss/Nikola Orsinov first date fic. (the pairs are separate from each other) I think this is my favorite fic out of any of my fandoms. It's hilarious, delightfully written, perfectly paced, and has incredible characterization. Definite 10/10 from me. I couldn't view the authors profile or find them on Tumblr, but they deserve all the credit for sure. <3

A Home For What Loves You by TheWrongShop ( T // Ongoing ) 

AU where Jon and Martin both get trapped in Martin’s flat by Prentiss for two weeks! It’s one I’ve been enjoying a heck of a lot, the way they write Jon and Martin has been excellent and I’m so excited in seeing where the fic is going (and the updates have been very regular!) 

Jon’s Moving Castle by IceEckos12 ( T // Ongoing ) 

Exactly what it says on the tin! A very nicely done Howl’s Moving Castle AU where Martin gets cursed by Peter. I’m enjoying the changes the author has made to the story to suit TMA’s influence and adjust the overall plot, but it also does a really good job of capturing some of the magical and cozy domestic vibes from the movie adaptation. It’s JonMartin obvs but also features a really nice qtp relationship between Jon and Gerry (who functions as Calcifer in the fic) 

Lessons in Caring  by Eyylish ( G // Complete )

A very! good! fic!! It’s an AU where Jon is an English teacher and Martin is a counselor. The start of their relationship is predictably rocky but, to my relief, it’s resolved pretty quickly, and what comes after is a lot of very lovely relationship development. The fic is nearly finished (currently 14/16 chapters) so now’s a good time to give it a look! 

Let the Happiness In by Justkeeptrekkin ( M // Complete )

This one has easily situated itself as one of my favorite TMA fics so far, hands down. AU where Jon is a bestselling author while Martin works at a bakery. The first half is good but once they become friends it gets even better. Also because it means a lot to me, I want to specifically mention that it has a (easily skippable) sex scene in it, and the way it’s written is just... so lovely, it honestly blew me away a little. Just, wow, the entire last third of this fic made me fall head over heels. 

strings between the stars by writevale ( M // Complete)

A VERY... good fic. I’m not gonna be able to pitch it in a way that’s as good as it deserves, but in short it’s a sci-fi AU where Jon is the AI on a ship where Martin, Tim, and Sasha all work under Elias. A Lot Of Wild Shit Goes Down. If you want a cool, dark adventure in space, give this one a looksee. Also shoutout to the way Basira and Daisy are written in this one, they show up in the latter half of the fic and I love them. 

Unrequited; Requited by Neverlastingforever ( T // Ongoing )

A fic where Jon needs a plus-one for a family wedding and Martin ends up being his fake date! It has already featured some very sweet bonding moments, and I’m extremely excited to see where it goes, especially once they finally get to the wedding and meet/deal with Jon’s family.

A very fun chatfic! It’s been updating consistently and I really like how everyone is written. If you want a chatfic that stays pretty lighthearted without completely ignoring canon, this one’s a great choice~ 

Yesterday is Here by CirrusGrey ( T // Complete )

A very, very good time-travel/fix-it fic. I really, really enjoy that it features both the past! and present! versions of Jon and Martin at the same time, super fun.

A really nice, not-too-long fic where Martin moves into a haunted house and gets a local medium (Jon) to help him figure out how to get rid of the ghost. 

Kith and Kin, Hearth and Home by ostentenacity ( T // Complete )

Really good fic!!! S4 canon-divergence where Jon quits by himself. In the aftermath, both Martin and Daisy want to be there for Jon, so they agree to try being friends, more or less. Great if you want some of that rare, sweet Martin & Daisy content, it gets very soft n sweet, plus there are supplemental fics in the series for you to enjoy if you wanna see some good Daisira too, or content centered around all four of them. 

school’s out for the summer by kiaronna ( T // Complete )

A great teacher AU following Martin, who works under Jon and deals with many wily children. There’s a lot of focus on Jon’s relationship to the kids/his school and how much he cares about them, alongside some great humor and tender moments with the kids. 

Sweat, Tears, or the Sea by darkrosaleen ( T // Complete )

I gotta add this fic because it’s 1) one of the first I read for the fandom 2) one of the most interesting concepts for a fic I’ve ever read? 3) very good! It’s from the POV of... salt. It’s surprisingly gay and wholesome. It’s not long at all, so give it a looksee if that pitch makes you at all curious! I’m very fond of it hehe

Synopsis:

"Where's Barry?" Taako asks, looking around at the packed canteen.  It's full of people, so odds are he's here.  Odds are, he's one of the several dozen Generic White Man With Glasses all deciding to hang out here rather than anywhere interesting.  Maybe if he can see their trays he can narrow them down by who's avoiding dairy, but if he's being honest with himself, that wouldn't help.  Barold has never accepted reasonable limitations, whether in necromancy or in diet.

"Over by the window," Lup says.  "I'd recognise that ass anywhere."

Taako snickers.  "You sure?"

But Lup's already gone over, slinging an arm around the guy's shoulders.  Taako really hopes she's right - last year she'd been dumped for mistaking her girlfriend for another lesbian in a red flannel shirt with a blue mohawk, and she's acting way too familiar if it turns out to be a stranger.

A look at how the twins both having prosapognosia (face blindness) could impact their lives and relationships.  Canon compliant.
