stonegrot week day 7: the future
heyo, friends. breaking my accidental hiatus to actually participate in @stonegrotweek for once!
for the record, this is set in my strange trails “good timeline” sequel? you might be missing some context if you haven’t read the behemoth that is strange trails. you might be missing some context even if you have read it. that’s fine.
I wrote most of this earlier this summer, but spent some time editing & tweaking this weekend. please note: it is still very much a rough draft, but I have miles to go before I can actually post any sequel stuff on ao3 so that’s okay. I just wanted to share something for the event.
WARNINGS: some light sexytimes (there is actually a steamier version that will live in my google docs forever). also, mentions of childbirth (not at all graphic).
anyway, on that note, here you go. a little glimpse into a stonegrot future, in approximately 1500 words.
-+-
Jen turns three, and a storm tears the sky in two. Deet watches the sky growing dark, shivers when the lightning flashes and the winds howl. Rian knows she’s weathered storms before, in this life, and in another. She’s lived, and she’s loved, and she’s lost. This time, though, in this storm— she breaks.
“Tell me what to do,” Rian pleads, holding her hands tight, trying to hold her steady, to hold her to this moment, to this life, to him. He’s seen her scared, he’s seen her lost and distant, but he’s never seen her so desperate, and he’s afraid. “I’ll do anything, Deet, I swear it. Just tell me what you need.”
“I need--” Deet breaks off, her breaths gasping, her eyes wild. She’s clinging right back, clinging to him, and he takes comfort from that. “I need to know it’s different this time. I need to know this is real. I need to feel it.”
“This is real,” Rian swears, pressing his forehead to hers, hoping his gestures might match his words, but feeling like both must be meaningless. “We’re real, Deet. You’re real.”
Deet pulls back and looks up at him, close enough that their breaths intermingle. One hand comes up to cup his neck, and she runs her thumb along his jawline-- the other drops down to his belt, and then traces lower. She holds his gaze and says, “Show me.”
Rian denied her once, long trine past, and he vowed then to never do it again. He blows out the candles, and lets Deet lead him to their bed. He helps her out of her dress, and then everything else. She returns the favor and then pulls him down with her, capturing his lips in a kiss that’s as sweet as it is desperate.
They don’t speak. Rian tries to prove with touch what his words cannot say-- that she is precious, that he is devoted. He loses himself in the moment, in her, and lets the rest of it fall away.
-+-
The storms come again, later that summer. If Rian didn’t know better he’d think they were still down in the Sog, battening down the hatches and weathering another monsoon. Winds howl and branches break, rain pounds against the roof of their home, lightning splits the sky as thunder rumbles in the distance.
Deet is silent for three days, jumping at every noise, staring blankly out the windows when she can’t keep busy enough for her mind to be still. On the third day, she puts Jen down for his afternoon nap, and walks straight out into the rain. Rian catches up before she’s made it off the porch, and tangles their fingers together, squeezing her hand tight.
“Hey,” he says, trying to calm the thunder in his own chest, his hammering heart. It isn’t fair, he thinks. It isn’t fair that they unraveled the world where he left her, but she still sees those ghosts. “It’s alright, Deet. I’m here, remember? I’m here.”
Deet opens her mouth, but her words are still trapped, still lost. She squeezes his hand back, and he lets himself relax, if only a fraction. Then she shifts her grip until she’s holding his wrist, and presses his hand to her stomach, holds it there. There’s no sign yet of the new life inside her, just a voice in the back of his mind that whispers three. Rian swallows, and Deet tries to catch his eye.
For a moment, his words are trapped too. He wraps his arms around her instead, pulling her into an embrace, and wishing he never had to let go.
-+-
“Let me get this straight,” Naia says, dropping her voice low-- so the others can’t hear them in the other room, and so Rian will hear her frustration. “Deet suffered a breakdown, the worst you’ve ever seen-- and your solution was to get her pregnant again?”
“That is--” Rian shoots a nervous glance out the door towards the others-- specifically watching for the flick of Grottan ears. So far so good, he thinks, as their friends chatter around Deet and her swollen belly. She’d put off telling them until this trip-- Rian thinks she might have put it off longer, if she wasn’t already halfway through her pregnancy and very visibly showing. He wonders if she was trying to save them both from exactly this sort of conversation.
He clears his throat and tries again. “That’s not exactly how it happened. She wanted another childling.” He thinks of that night, of Deet pulling him back towards her, her voice husky and her eyes on him, and only him, as she asked him to stay. “This was her idea.”
Naia stares at him, hard, for the span of several seconds. She’s clearly still frustrated, but she’s looking for a new target. “You should have come down sooner,” she finally settles on, nodding a little to herself as she sinks into the argument, like a comfortable pair of boots. “I could have been checking up on them both.”
“They’ve been alright, Naia. Everything’s been fine.” Rian pauses, and sees something unfamiliar in Naia’s eyes, a level of concern he hasn’t seen often. “What’s the matter? Why are you taking this so hard?”
“I’m not,” Naia snaps, and just like that her eyes narrow and her brow furrows. “You’re my friends, Rian. I want Deet to be well. I want your childling to be well. And I want the two of you to be happy.” She still looks cross, but there’s an honesty there that he appreciates. “Would you fault me for that?”
“Of course not.” Rian can’t quite help it, he pulls Naia into a brief hug, and graciously she lets him. Once he’s pulled away, he clears his throat and asks, “For what it’s worth, Deet’s going to ask you to help her again, when the baby comes. You’re the only one she trusts.” Naia’s eyes flicker again, with that same sad expression. For a split second Rian almost, almost understands why, and just as quickly, that understanding is gone. “If you’re up for it,” he adds, a little uneasy.
“I’ll be there,” Naia promises, her voice soft, her eyes still sad. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
-+-
“No, she’s right….here!” Deet says, guiding Jen’s chubby handprint to her side, her tired smile growing wide as his face lights up with delight. “Can you feel that?”
“She kicked me!” Jen’s practically vibrating with excitement. With just a few weeks left, Rian can see the ripples of movement in the taut skin of Deet’s round, heavy belly as their childling moves within her, apparently feeling Jen’s presence, and making her own known. Jen gasps, his eyes going even wider. “Again!”
“She’s saying hello,” Deet tells him, glancing over their son’s head to lock eyes with Rian. Her smile is warm, and just for him. She turns back to Jen, and reaches out to ruffle his hair. “She’s excited to meet you.”
“Are you ready to be a big brother?” Rian asks, flashing a grin of his own as Jen scrambles for the fair-haired little doll Deet made. He holds her carefully, just the way they showed him. Deet lets out a soft chuckle, and Rian leans in to press three kisses-- one to the top of Jen’s head, one to Deet’s lips, and one to her belly. His family, right where he wants him-- close enough for him to reach out and hold them tight.
-+-
“Why was that harder?” Deet asks, winded and breathless and a little delirious, even as Naia lays the infant on her chest. “I’d already done it once, shouldn’t it be-- oh. Hello, baby.” Her tone changes in an instant, complaint and confusion falling away as she smooths a hand across wispy hair, blonde streaked with blue. The baby blinks up at them with deep brown eyes. She has Rian’s olive skin and teal streaked across her brow. She’s beautiful, and she’s quiet. “Why isn’t she crying?”
“Just give her a minute.” Naia has a towel in hand, rubbing at the baby’s back vigorously. “She’s had a big day.” She helps Deet sit the baby up, and rubs a little more, until the little one lets out a watery cough, and starts to wail. It’s the best sound Rian has ever heard. Deet lets out a sigh of relief, and Naia grins at all three of them. “See? All is well.”
-+-
They name her Shoni. She doesn’t look much like his mother, but it still feels right, somehow, to pass on that name, to let it live on through his daughter. She’s perfect, from her long, dark lashes to each and every finger and toe, and she and Deet are both perfectly healthy. It feels like a miracle.
“Thank you,” Deet breathes, in the quiet of their room, with their childling nursing at her breast, and snow piling up outside their window. “Thank you, for reminding me.”
Rian doesn’t speak. He doesn’t have to. He just winds an arm around Deet’s shoulder, holding his girls close. Outside, the wind howls as the storm picks up, but for once Deet doesn’t shiver. She just sinks into him, her breathing calm and even. Rian knows that the struggle isn’t over, knows that more storms will come, that the two of them will bend, and may break. But for now, he presses a kiss to her hair, gentle, and grounding, and Deet closes her eyes, and rests.

Carajillo II
SUMMARY: The sequel to Carajillo, which you can read here. A coup d'etat has been staged in the Celestial Realm. The human proposes a plan to halt the impending war.
Part One: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
Part Two: Coming Soon!
Part Three: Coming Soon!
TW: Blood, Violence, Explicit Sexual Content, Mention of Rape
PART ONE: CHAPTER TWO
I stand some distance away from the wooden door, mulling over the idea of  knocking a third time. I had made sure to leave five minute increments between each period of knocking, especially given the early hour, but the lack of response is mildly concerning. One would usually think to provide a servant with some sort of audible response -- surprised yelling, shuffling, perhaps even muffled curses as the resident within stumbles into furniture -- but Maria appears to have no knowledge of the social expectation. That, or she is still fast asleep. I would imagine it to be the latter.
Silently, I contemplate simply barging in and rousing her awake. Pouring the water from the flower vase would work, certainly, as would pulling away the sheets from her.
Back in her exchange year days, such an informal, inappropriate method would be considered normal. Expected, even. Long hours of partaking in alcohol and playing obscure human games do not particularly lend themselves to early mornings -- a fact that Maria had seemed to stubbornly refuse to acknowledge. And it would lead to the same outcome every time: she would partake in three or four drinks over the course of the night, debating some philosophy or aspect of human culture with Lord Diavolo, and I would be instructed to all but drag the stumbling, intoxicated human to a guest room. I would be the one to remove her shoes from her small, numb feet before she collapsed on the bed. To hold her upright as she struggled to brush her teeth, to ensure her body was at least warm enough to offset her poor circulation, and to wake her up before she missed one of her classes at RAD. Back in her exchange year days, I never would have thought twice about entering the room to wake her.
Times have changed. I have long burned that bridge to ashes.
Still, there is the matter of giving her enough time to prepare for the meeting. While souls do not particularly require sustenance, it would be in her best interest to experience as many sensations as possible. To ground herself in this place and time.
I knock again. No response.
Two minutes and thirty-one seconds pass. Two minutes and thirty-one seconds of a quiet, strained patience. Two minutes and thirty-one seconds of idling in the massive corridor, standing before a room that is apparently devoid of life. All in all, one hundred and fifty-one seconds of waiting in almost complete silence.
The door clicks softly as I open it. I pass the threshold as I step into the room, ensuring that I mask my irritation.
“Maria, your meeting with Lord Diavolo is --”
Maria regards me over her shoulder, both her posture and movements suggesting severe lethargy. Or, at the very least, momentary confusion. She blinks, the dark eyelashes fluttering. The smooth olive tone of her back is almost completely bared to me, the contour of her shoulder blades shadowed in the dim light, and the dark blouse is only pulled up halfway over her torso. Her pants, while tightened perfectly at her thin waist, are loose in every other manner. Her sleeping clothes lie in a pile at her feet. Evidently she has just awoken.
I stare for a moment, all thoughts interrupted by the sight.
Her expression suddenly metamorphoses into one of surprise, a flush coming onto her cheeks, and she quickly finishes pulling up the dark blouse. “I -- I was having trouble with buttoning it up,” she explains quickly. “I’ll be out in a moment.”
I bow, averting my eyes. “Of course.”
As expected, the moment lasts approximately ten minutes and three seconds. Maria emerges from the room with quiet, shuffling steps, fidgeting with the sleeves of the blouse. The pitch-black blouse seems to swallow up her thin frame, the high-waisted pants a little too long for her petite legs, and there is a flicker of discomfort in her expression when the fabric grazes against her neck. As if it had burned her.
Then again, such fabrics are likely too cumbersome for the average human. The frigid air of the Devildom has done well to accustom demons to heavy, unforgiving textiles. She would have to wait until we acquire more fitting garments.
I gesture towards the end of the hall. “Shall we?”
She nods.
It is a quiet, almost wordless journey to the private kitchen. And then it is a quiet, almost wordless breakfast, the small room filled only with the clink of utensils. The scraping of the chairs against the wooden floor, the rush of water from the faucet, and the closing of the wooden door behind us as we exit to the corridor once more. With only thirty minutes and twenty seven until the meeting, I make sure to allot enough time for both her slower pace and her fatigue.
Despite her silent forgiveness only six days before, I can feel the almost palpable tension in the air between us. The distance that I have created. There is little change in her demeanor -- she is as bullheaded and difficult as she was when she was alive -- but I can sense the guarded nature that has come to encompass her actions. I am kept at arm’s length. What had once been an open, unrestricted channel for her intentions and words has been replaced by a stark barrier. Amiable, yet distant. Cordial, yet reluctant.
The memory of my nightmare suddenly makes itself known amongst my thoughts, overwhelming whatever had come before it. As much as I try to dispel the presence, that horrible crimson tingeing the edges of my vision, I am assaulted with the images of her dying over and over again. Black and blue marks on her small neck. A stab wound at her stomach. The broken, crumpled pile of her body. The spear that had all but shattered her, the flesh and bone of her torso nearly unrecognizable, and the same spear that had pinned her by the throat to the wall, her feet dangling some distance from the floor. That fearful, desperate look in her eyes as she had tried to pull the spear from her throat, her fingers nearly seared off in the process.
I have no memory of tearing the angel apart. I have no memory of separating the flesh from bone, the limbs from his torso, or the head from whatever was left of his wretched body. Lord Diavolo had not stopped me from slaughtering the angel  -- examples must be made, after all -- but he had prevented my rampage from becoming too destructive. Maria had been too far gone to save at the moment, even with the application of sorcery, but Lord Diavolo had placed her in my arms all the same. Forcing me to regain at least some of my clarity.
It was the one and only time I had felt her die.
The sound of footsteps behind me cease. I stop and turn to regard her slightly hunched, stumbling form, her hand lingering just an inch away from the wall.
“We can wait a moment,” I offer, eyeing her. “There’s no need to rush.”
Maria smiles sheepishly at me, waving off my concern. “No, no, I’m alright,” she answers, perceiving the question in my words. “I just think it’s kinda funny that I’m -- that I’m still like this. Guess it just takes a while.”
My gaze lingers on her for only a moment.
“I suppose so.”
The entrance to the throne room is a grand, striking beast, featuring rich mahogany, gold adornments, and the carvings of strange and terrible gods. Here lies the relief of the Hundred-Eyed Devourer, a malicious entity who used his endless mass to gorge himself on both sacrifices and followers alike. The Mother of Many, a writhing, tentacled goddess who birthed a number of grotesque abominations. The All-Seeing, an eldritch beast who looked upon the sins of humanity and decimated entire city-states with its gaze. And then there is the One Who Hungers, an otherwise nameless, formless being that had terrorized even the gods of old. The true beast of Babylon. Even the old king found himself at a loss in comparison to this beast’s strength. The relief in the mahogany depicts only the gaping, slavering maw of the beast, its silhouette outlined by sharp, thorn-like teeth.
And then Lord Diavolo’s father had slaughtered nearly all of them in cold blood, taking each of the gods’ powers for his own. The door is merely a retelling of events. A gruesome present from an equally gruesome father.
Maria takes a moment to collect herself just outside of the door, shifting uncomfortably in her borrowed garments. Adjusting the oversized collar of her blouse with needless attention. I stand a respectful distance away from her as she does so. Her dark curls spill out of the confines of her low bun, exacerbating the effect of the shadows beneath her eyes. Her fingers furl and unfurl against the too-long sleeves of her blouse.
And then she finally sighs, her gaze meeting mine. Trepidation.
I place a gloved hand against the great doors and push them open, leading her to the belly of the throne room. She proceeds with hesitant steps into the massive chamber, the diminutive heels of her shoes clicking quietly against the floor. Yet another strand undoes itself from her bun.
And she is nearly toppled over.
“Maria!” cries Asmodeus, wrapping her small body in his too-familiar embrace. I frown. The blond demon picks her up and spins her in a perfect circle, prompting surprised yelps on her part. “I can’t believe it’s really you!”
Maria stumbles slightly when he finally puts her down, nearly tripping over a heel, but the blonde demon only continues to nuzzle her with affection. I frown deeper.
“Asmo,” she says, her voice muffled, “I -- I can’t --”
“Can’t believe that you’re finally in the presence of my beauty?” he finishes for her. His wings flutter happily at his back, his excitement apparently too great to be contained. “It’s alright, you can admit it. It should be illegal to be as beautiful as I am.”
“Oi!” Mammon barks irritably. ”Whaddya think you’re doin’?! You’re not the only one who --”
“Oh, don’t be like that,” Asmodeus cuts him off, pursing his mouth. His embrace tightens on Maria, and he shoots the greedy demon a roguish grin. “Just because you’re a little jealous doesn’t mean you get to have her all to yourself. And she likes it, anyway. Don’t you, Maria?”
Maria gives a muffled response, squirming slightly in his grip. Asmodeus nods in confirmation of his own statement, inciting a scowl to come over Mammon’s features.
“See?”
Mammon opens his mouth to speak, fully prepared to rebuke his younger brother’s claims -- but Beelzebub pushes past him before he can do so, encroaching slowly on the entwined pair. His more traitorous twin follows closely behind, drawn to the commotion, and the wrathful one looks upon the scene with a hint of exasperation from his seat. Lucifer, ever the disdainful demon, mirrors Satan’s expression, the tips of his black wings twitching in annoyance. The useless otaku brings a hand to his pocket, prepared to pull out his D.D.D.. And then there is Lord Diavolo, regarding the rather chaotic group with what appears to be nothing more than pure amusement.
I wonder, at times like this, just how the Devildom has managed to remain intact.
This time, it is Beelzebub who offers the gesture of affection. Similar to Asmodeus, he does not wait for a confirmation or an answer -- and he picks up the entwined pair with a spine-crushing embrace. His face splits into an overjoyed smile, even as Asmodeus begins to show signs of discomfort. The blond demon’s feet flail uselessly in the air. Beelzebub only continues to confine the unfortunate pair in his arms.
“It’s good to see you again, Maria,” he says.
Asmodeus manages to force out his head from beneath the larger demon’s arms. “Beel,” he chokes out, “don’t you think --”
“That’s enough!”
Lucifer’s voice nearly echoes throughout the entirety of the room, his irritation seeming to have reached its peak. Dark tendrils of power begin to extend from his body, writhing with threatening intent in the air -- and Beelzebub drops both Maria and Asmodeus unceremoniously onto the ground, if only out of surprise. Asmodeus quickly picks himself up, straightening his clothes as he does so. Lucifer’s glare flickers between all six of his brothers, his gloved hands nearly splintering the wood of the chair he has in his grasp.
“Now, if you’re all done hounding the only --”
Satan rises from his seat. “Lucifer.”
“-- Lord Diavolo has called upon all of us for a very important meeting, so I would expect --”
Satan strides in the direction of both Asmodeus and Beelzebub. “Lucifer.”
“-- If we could find it within ourselves to just --”
Satan stands between Asmodeus and Beelzebub, nodding towards the ground. “Lucifer!”
“What?” Lucifer all but snarls, regarding Satan with a fiery gaze. “I’m sure whatever has come to your attention can wait until after the discussion.”
Despite the seething tone of the eldest brother, Satan’s expression seems to only possess concern. He nods towards the ground once more, kneeling. “I don’t think we can start the discussion if she’s like this,” he points out, pressing a hand to Maria’s nearly unconscious body. She doesn’t stir. “We should at least wake her up.”
She stands at her place in the throne room some eleven minutes and forty seconds later, her curls dripping with water. The now empty vase sits some distance behind her. Thankfully, the dark hues of her clothing prevent her from taking on an inappropriate appearance. The water damage to the wood and fabric of the chair can be remedied later.
Lord Diavolo takes a moment to clear his throat, drawing his gaze around the room. His eyes linger on each and every figurehead -- studying them to identify any dissent or controversy, just as his father had done -- and then he is looking upon Maria, taking in her soaked, nearly shivering form. Her eyes do not waver. A smile comes onto his visage.
He claps his hands together, signalling the commencement of the meeting.

My Process - So Far
So @eratomusewriter tagged me the other day, asking for advice on how to publish an AU. Well, I’m not published yet but I do feel like I’ve moved onto Stage 2 of the process: the waiting!
First step is obviously finishing the work as a work of fanfiction. Can we just talk about how amazing fanfic is and how beautiful the community is? Like, what a remarkable place to cut your teeth. I’m SO excited to start writing again (and feel like I might finally be able to do that now...)
Even as I was finishing Pocket with Elio and Oliver, I was already thinking of Liam and Zach, picking out new names, new looks, how I could change their backgrounds.
The biggest changes had to be made to the Elio character.  He still grew up in Italy and plays piano, but he’s no longer Jewish, both his parents are American expats and he has a brother, who takes over the Papa Perlman role. The brother dynamic has been so fun to play with. Oh, and he’s blond.
After I finished posting PP, I immediately jumped into the scrubbing process. I didn’t want to lose my momentum because I felt I knew the characters and the tone of the fic so well at that point and I just needed to keep going. Along with changing names and places, I also realized I was going to need to tighten up the word count quite a bit.
Kill your darlings, people. It’s brutal but necessary - I had to scrap the epilogue. But hey, if things go well maybe I can write a sequel! lol
The next phase was getting “beta readers”. I seriously lucked into some great fandom and non-fandom beta readers, who gave me feed back that really helped guide my choices and make changes where needed. Like, I was originally going to keep Liam Jewish, but there was part of my brain that was screaming “It’s too similar to Elio!” so when that got brought up by a reader, it was the final push over the edge to make that change. Now he’s this awesome little Athiest who grew up in a Catholic country - ever the contrarian, our Liam.
But it was VERY intense. Every little change meant checking back through for consistency and sometimes making BIG changes to whole scenes/dialogue.
The next step was finding people in the business to read the damn thing! But before you can do that you have to write a query letter and a synopsis. For me, the query letter was much harder as the synopsis is literally an emotional and plot point play by play. This DEFINITELY the most daunting part and honestly, if it weren’t for the leg work of @ashleydownunder I probably would still be stalled here. I will forever be grateful for her spreadsheets!
At this point I’ve sent PP off to 6 agents and two publishing companies. One agent has already asked for a full manuscript submission, which I sent off this morning. Now I wait!
There is such an immense feeling of relief this morning. I have been so singularly minded about this that there really hasn’t been head space for any other kind of writing. But now...I can feel my muse opening up and I’m looking at you @rainbowdazzle. ;)
Luckily, this all of this is just a side dream. There were so many times along the way where I asked myself, “Why are you bothering? Writing PP was seriously one the best experiences of your life already. So much love from readers. Why are you putting yourself out there like this???” But I’m glad I pushed through - often with some hearty kicks in the rear from @694699 and @c-u-at-midnight to not give up.
Obviously, my story isn’t over. It’s not a success story, just yet. But I’m excited for what comes next!! I will definitely keep you all posted. xx

Novel Prep
Thanks to @dimawriting and @maple-writes for tagging me!!
WIP: The Inbetween
Tagging: @drist-n-dither @theforgottencoolkid @minny-santa and uhh anyone else who sees this!
This gets pretty long so I’ll put it under a read more.
First Look
1. Describe your novel in 1-2 sentences (elevator pitch)
The crew members abroad the Perseus Space Station were tasked with investigating the first signs of early human-like civilization on an exoplanet. The truth behind the ruins scattered across the dying planet, however, is stranger, darker, older than anything they ever expected.
2. How long do you plan for your novel to be? (Is it a novella, single book, book series, etc.)
As of right now, The Inbetween is a single book divided into 5ish parts. The POV will be third person. Still not sure if I want to switch between characters for each chapter or if I want each of the 5 parts told through the perspective of one of the main characters. I am playing with the idea of a sequel. I also want to write about the before and after the events of The Inbetween. There are also at least two AUs running around my mind so I might explore those too.
3. What is your novel’s aesthetic?
Dark skies full of stars, floating weightlessly, lonely planets, geometry, singularity, the smallness of existence, amorphous shadows on the wall, empty corridors, static, flickering lights, hearts racing from adrenaline, the taste of blood in your mouth as you run for your life
4. What other stories inspire your novel?
The Inbetween originated from me wanting to take some of my unused characters beyond them just being characters. The earliest drafts of The Inbetween were short stories inspired by Wolfgun’s music. The story eventually grew into what it is now thanks to a few episodes of Star Trek and Welcome to Nightvale. Lots of the scenes I currently have written were born from daydreaming to Carbon Based Lifeforms’s music. I would say CBL has had the biggest influence on the story.
5. Share 3+ images that give a feel for your novel
This one is for the last part of the book.
Tumblr media
Main Character
6. Who is your protagonist?
There are five protagonists:
Emmett Reyes: Mexican-American, 19 (at the beginning of the story), aro/ace, trans, biologist
Johann Herschel: British-German, 20 (at the beginning of the story), bi, nonbinary, pilot and navigator
Neveen Jalal: Egyptian-American, 19 (at the beginning of the story), lesbian, chemist, starship medic, lowkey inspired by my high school chem teacher
Oliver West: Korean-Canadian, 20 (at the beginning of the story), gay, mechanic
Alternis: A.I., years active unknown, primarily used for security and scouting
7. Who is their closest ally?
Their closest allies would be each other. Here’s some specific friendships:
Overall: they grow as close as family. Nothing like a near death experience out in the middle of the cold, indifferent void to make five kids bond for life.
Neveen + Emmett: Nerd friends! With him being a biologist and her becoming a medic, they share a love for the subject. They bond over their love for their cultures. They teach each other words in their native tongues.
Johann + Emmett + Oliver: Partners in crime!! These three are as ride or die as you can get with a group of friends. While Johann isn’t always keen on the chaos, he still goes along with it because “who’s going to serve as your guys’s impulse control???” Secretly, he loves it.
Oliver + Johann: Oliver becomes pretty supportive of all his friends and his relationship with Johann is no different. Oliver makes for a pretty good listener and he doesn’t mind hearing about his friend’s worries. He’ll offer some pretty good advice as well.
Neveen + Oliver: Oliver is, without a doubt, the most social of all the crew members. Unlike him, however, Neveen is the exact opposite. He will respect her space if she needs it, but he is also there to make sure she doesn’t lose herself in it. In a lot of ways, he reminds Neveen of her own sister.
Emmett + Alternis: These two form a pretty close bond. Both share feelings of becoming static in life. Both struggle with insecurity and general feelings of anxiety that they are not good enough. However, they both also share a deep curiosity for the world around them. She likes to ask him questions knowing he won’t brush them off and he feels comfortable enough to ramble on about whatever subject is most interesting to him knowing that she is willing to listen with interest herself.
Bonus:
Commander Mitch Connor + his crew: At first, Mitch was pretty hesitant to be this mission’s commander. They’re all kids, two of them fresh out of high school almost. However, he quickly learns that this crew is more than capable. They’re adaptable and fiercely resilient. They know how to use their strengths to their advantage and do so creatively. Most importantly, though, they genuinely care about each other.
8. Who is their enemy?
The story’s main antagonist is a weird hivemind entity that is partially made from various alien life forms and part alien tech. It’s main purpose is to find creatures its programming deems perfect specimens and then merge with (eat???) them to take on their abilities. The creature was once a technologically advanced alien race from a different dimension who sought to create the “perfect being”. No one’s really sure what “perfect being” meant for them, but eventually they, and most of their old universe, were all consumed by their creation. The entity then traveled across many other dimensions still seeking specimens to consume. While it has no definite shape or can even be considered a single animal, it’s still very much sapient. It’s hard to tell the age or if it was supposed to be machine or animal or even what species it originally was. However, the minds and voices of its creators live on with it.
If you want an idea as to how it sounds, it’s a little like the Warpers from Subnautica but with multiple voices. Here’s a clip.
9. What do they want more than anything?
They all have different dreams that they are pursuing, but they basically all want a life where they can be happy and have closure.
Emmett wants to be at peace with himself.
Johann wants to find a place that he can call home.
Oliver wants to protect the little he already has.
Neveen wants to achieve her dreams.
Alternis wants to belong.
10. Why can’t they have it?
Emmett is, first of all, much too doubting in himself. He worries so much that he can’t appreciate the things he has done right or the things he can do. He isn’t very kind to himself.
Johann misses the life he had on Earth. He and his family moved to a new planet because they don’t really like Earth and want to experience something new. But Johann never feels the same sense of “home” as he did on Earth.
Oliver’s job is helping out his mother with their repair shop. So, when the shop is threatened with closure, he is desperate to find another job, but since he dropped out and never finished school, he’s having a really hard time coming up with something that will provide enough. This is why he ends up joining the space program.
Neveen is in a somewhat similar boat. She has dreams of working as a doctor and all of her time and effort goes into studying for that. She, however, ends up getting rejected from three different schools in her area. She starts to feel like time is somehow running out for her.
Alternis has had a hard time. When she didn’t fit the expectations her creators set, she quickly discovered that her differences were seen as something flawed. She spent a lot of her early days either alone and she grew to be resentful towards people. But she wants to be accepted, so when they told her she was to be assigned to the Perseus Station, she had a lot of mixed feelings about the situation.
11. What do they wrongly believe about themselves?
Emmett: not smart/good enough, not allowed to make mistakes
Neveen: her success determines her worth, has to do things just right or Else
Oliver: dumb for dropping out of college, is not much other than the comic relief in his friend group
Johann: thinks he can run from facing what’s really bothering him
Alternis: needs to have a purpose to be worth something to others, needs to change to be accepted
12. Draw your protagonist! (Or share a description)
Emmett: 5′2, curly brown hair, brown eyes, tan skin, a scar running from jaw to cheek, there’s a picture @auroradrawing made here!
Neveen: 5′5, long black hair, brown eyes, dark skin, red hijab
Johann: 6′2. dark blond hair, blue eyes, pale skin
Oliver West: 5′10, black hair, brown eyes, pale skin
Alternis:  i made a post on her appearance here
Plot Points
13. What is the internal conflict?
I would say that the overall internal conflict for all the characters is them struggling to understand that they are human which means that they are allowed to be wrong, make bad decisions, have emotions, and fail and none of this undermines their value in any way.
14. What is the external conflict?
The main external conflict is survival. They come into contact with a powerful interdimensional creature who is possibly hundred of thousands of years old or more and they have no idea how to stop it. After their station and only way home gets destroyed and they find themselves stranded with no way to let anyone know what’s happening, they realize that they have to find a way to at least repel the creature as it’s not just their survival at stake, but also that of their friends and family back on Earth.
15. What is the worst thing that could happen to your protagonist?
Death, probably. There’s a lot of things that would be left undone and unsaid and also literally no one else knows what is going on, so it could be a while before anyone back home realizes they’re never coming back. And that thought is one of the scariest things they can imagine.
16. What secret will be revealed that changes the course of the story?
Basically the purpose of the entity and them figuring out what it is and what it wants changes everything they were led to believe at first about the planet and the origin of the ruins.
17. Do you know how it ends?
Yes. They all get a happy ending because I’m done with the sad shit. Also happy endings are good?? Like give me more happy endings dammit! They go through so much shit and get tested so much, like, they deserve their happy ending.
Bits and Bobs
18. What is the theme?
You are stronger than you think. Let yourself be flawed. Things might not be okay, but they will work out. You have a place in the universe, no matter how small. Tomorrow is a new day.
19. What is a reoccurring symbol?
Darkness, geometry/symmetry, fire (?),static, lots of the names of things have meaning behind them
20. Where is the story set? (Share a description!)
There are two made up planets on which this story takes place. The first planet is Thesan-4. This planet is a desert-like planet. It’s in the Milky Way for sure, but I haven’t exactly figured out where yet. This planet is primarily used for military/astronaut training. At least 40% of the story will take place here. The other planet is an icy, Earth-like planet. I call this planet the Mirror World in my head but the actual name is pending. Here is where the remains of early civilization are found and this is where the Perseus crew is assign for their mission. At least 60% of the story will take place here.
21. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?
Hell yeah! Scenes and a general outline are all I have right now. A lot of the little details are still pretty vague though.
22. What excited you about this story?
Oh man, is “everything” an answer? I always wanted to write a story set in space, but my biggest issue was finding a good plot. Like, I had the characters and I had some vague idea of a setting, but no actual plot or conflict. This story spent a lot of time on the back burner and I honestly thought about abandoning it a few times. However, it has come to grow so much and I’m really happy I didn’t abandon it. I love the lore behind the antagonist and the character interactions and uhhh well damn. Everything!
23. Tell us about your usual writing method!
I think the very first thing I come up with is either the setting or the characters. Then, I make the characters that I feel would go best with the setting or vice versa. Other details like names and stuff come way later. 99% of my writing process is music. If I need a certain mood for a scene, I’ll put on some music that fits and I’ll listen to it a few times before actually writing. I find that this helps me come up with scenes so I don’t really struggle at that. Putting them down on paper is harder lol, especially when I can see at least three different ways to write the opening. But once I start writing, everything flows much easier.

Olicity Fanfic Rec List:
(You’ll find all of these on AO3 unless I specify otherwise)
There’s so much love in this fandom and a great way to express them is to write fanfiction! I’ve had a tiny but if a difficult time recently - my mum was ill, ambulances, hospital and lost of chocolate (me) was involved - and I haven’t been able to write a thing.
Coming back to it, I took a quick look through all the bookmarks I’ve near-to obsessed over in the past and thought I’d write this list. @scu11y22 is to thank so if you actually manage to find one you haven’t read, then go send her a word :)
(This list is not exhaustive) They are to be: multi-chapt, slow burn, well written, mature, no threesomes (ditto x 1000), no kids and AU/canon divergent... and not @so-caffeinated and @dust2dust34 AMAZING FICON
So.
Tumblr media
Legacies series by @chronicolicity
Part 1 is called You’re His Hope ( Felicity struggling to save Oliver's humanity after losing him to the League of Assassins. Anything else would legit be a spoiler. Expect drama, romance, angst, humor, plot and plot TWISTS. Sparked by some amazing Tumblr theories I apologize in advance for completely ruining.) And so on and so forth.
The Crow
(Bratva Captain Oliver Queen has been looking for revenge his entire life. When he can’t trust his own family, the Bratva to get it, he finds the answer to all of his problems in Felicity Smoak; a genius hacker who is running for her life from the same object of Oliver’s hatred, The Triad. With an unlikely partnership, The Crow might just find out that light can shine in the darkest of places.)
ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING EVER TO EXIST BY @anthfan JUST MAYBE?
AO3 Address: Anthfan
(My personal fav is the Devil’s Backbone)
When the Day Comes
“Have you talked to her?”
“Yeah.”
“So you'll call her-” Thea sent a teary look back through the window at Tommy.
“I'll call her if he wakes up.”
“When,” she gripped him fiercely then, her little nails digging into his forearm, “when Tommy wakes up.”
Oliver nodded, “Yes, of course.” His tone as hollow as his smile had been.
An all time favourite of mine: Sins by @smoakandarrow
(Oliver Queen is alive. After being presumed dead in a violent shipwreck five years ago, Oliver Queen returns to Starling City determined to right the wrongs of his family. But the billionaire playboy's homecoming stirs more than feelings for joy; it threatens secrets someone is determined to keep buried. Secrets that threaten the life Oliver has just reclaimed, and the lives of those he loves the most.Vowing to protect his family at any cost, Oliver digs deeper, bringing danger to his doorstep, and leaving him with the shocking realization that the sins of the past are rooted much closer to home than he ever thought. When friends may be enemies, when enemies may be his best allies, when love is used as a smokescreen to hide the most vicious hate, Oliver isn't sure who he can trust. He just knows that he'll do anything to protect those he loves... even it means dying all over again.)
You Have Not Failed This Verse  by @so-caffeinated
(Sometimes a payday ain't exactly what it seems.) Don’t let the brief description fool you. It’s incredible.
Hands
(Felicity knows her place in Oliver's life. She's the sidekick not the love interest. But in the Summer after the artificial earthquake lots of things can change.)
The Ways of the Universe
(No two epic love stories are the same. For Oliver and Felicity, it's quite the long road. What with all the crime-fighting, and super-secret identities, and emotionally-stunted men, and old flames, and meddlesome friends and family. Some goats, too. Picks up right after the end of 'City of Heroes' (2x01). Any similarities with the rest of S2 are, for the most part, coincidental.)
What Happened in Vegas - a very different take on the usual Vegas hookup fics
(It's all fun and games until you wake up hung-over and married to a stranger. Five years ago Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak made a drunken mistake that could never be corrected. After years on a hellish island he comes back as a man on a mission only to find out that what happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas. (Season One Rewrite))
Every single story by @supersillyanddorky06 but especially Predator
(Oliver Queen is the one anomaly in the Chicago Outfit. He is the only non-blooded member to be a part of the high circle in the family. His reputation precedes him and he is their best hunter. Felicity Smoak, daughter of the Starling boss, infiltrates his house, intent on killing him. But a startling encounter tips the scales. He goes on the prowl and she escapes. Hate, heat, and friction. Sparks. But something bigger is happening in their world. And despite their disagreements, only they can fight it down. Mob AU. Not Bratva. Enemies-lovers. You'll want to bash their heads sometimes. Stuff will happen. Enjoy! )
The Legacy Series by @ash818 (I’m sort of in love with this universe: it involves Oliver and Felicity’s children and it’s a wonderful and very serious - possibly quite honest - look at what the future might look like for them. Plus, I wrote a one-shot for this. SHE’S THAT GOOD.)
(It's 2039, and Jonathan Queen cannot stop looking for trouble. Then trouble finds him and his family, and Jonny discovers that there is more to his parents than he ever suspected. He must learn to bear the weight of his parents' past, and he must learn fast, because time is running out for his mother.)
Most of these aren’t finished but this one hurts me because it’s been left alone:
Somewhere Out There
(When Felicity falls through a gate that takes her to a parallel universe, she finds herself in a world that is so much like her own, except for one very important thing.)
Layers
(I feel sad. Wanted something to cheer myself up. This is the result.I have no set dates for updating, so bear with me.This is the Bratva fic no one wanted. Note - I like that Oliver isn't possessive. I also like when women have agency. You will find both here. This is a Oliver/Felicity-centric story.)
His Girl Wednesday and Some Things Are Meant to Be
Insanely long fics (THANK GOD): Missing her interview for a position in the IT department of QC, Felicity Smoak meets Oliver Queen, son of the CEO and future CEO himself. Only Oliver doesn’t take the company as seriously as he should and after yet another fiasco with his assistant, his mother decides to take matter into her own hands and select one with more qualifications than long legs and deep cleavage. In an effort to get her off his back, he pretends he already hired one: the blonde nerdy girl he met a few minutes ago.Or when Arrow and Ugly Betty crash in my head (except we all know Felicity could never be ugly). It is mostly Arrow, I borrow a few plot ideas/characters from Ugly Betty.
Sequel: Three years ago, Oliver went on a cruise on the Gambit and never came back, leaving Felicity devastated. She forced herself to move on with her life, trying to forget that the love they had shared was one she'd never get to live again.
Except Oliver didn't die on that boat. But no matter how much he wants to, he knows he can't come back. Too many things happened, and the only way to keep his loved ones safe is to stay as far away from them as possible.
It all changes when Felicity starts questioning the circumstances of the accident that took him away from her...
One More From the Top
(In the aftermath of his fight with Ras Al Ghul, Oliver finds himself somewhere unexpected: his hospital room when he first came back from the Island. With a second chance to right the mistakes he’s made since coming back to Starling City, what will Oliver do to save the people he’s loved and lost? Will he be able to change his past or will be he forced to watch history repeat itself?)
Break
(After the events of Unthinkable, Felicity burns out from Arrow activities. So she takes a step back to get some air. This story tracks Felicity's journey of becoming a heroine in her own right as she helps form the Justice League.)
Good, Better, Best Series by redtoes - a three part series each specifying how O + F got together and stayed together. Not very long but 15 chapters so...
The Grand Adventures of Felicity Smoak
(a.k.a How Felicity did not save the day.Felicity's father comes back only to take her away from the life and the people she loves. But sometimes, it takes a series of misadventures for a girl to discover how badass she really is and how valuable she is to her friends. She gets in trouble, gets rich, gets in trouble, gets hurt, gets in trouble again and gets the guy.Canon divergence. From in mid s02 before the revelation of Slade Wilson.)
Another I need to mention - though it isn’t a multi-chap slow burn - is: This Love Thing
Also a short fic but there aren’t that many slow burns around :) is Love Me Like I’m Not Made of Stone
(When meeting Felicity, Oliver has a flashback. Afterwards, he flees, leaving behind his 'latted' laptop. She further investigates on her own, but lurking underneath everything else is Felicity's concern for Oliver. Just like with anything that matters to her – she doesn't know why he matters but he does, she can't let the episode – what she fears to be PTSD – go.)
The Darkest Hour
(just weeks after moving to Starling City, Felicity Smoak is kidnapped for information she does not have. She endures weeks of torture before she is rescued by a man in green leather and his partner, John Diggle. As Felicity begins to put the pieces of her life back together, she realizes the trauma she suffered changed her in unexpected ways. Restless and with a driving need to help others the way the man in green helped her, she finds herself using her brilliant mind and considerable computer skills to follow a different path fraught with danger and violence. As Felicity grows closer to the Green Arrow and Diggle, helping them in their cause to save Starling City, the three struggle against unseen enemies, and discover the unexpected truth behind her kidnapping.)
All in a Day’s Work
(By 9:00 a.m., she had broken a heel, lost her cell phone, and been the victim of a coffee catastrophe. By 9:30 a.m. she had “borrowed” the NSA mainframe. By 10:00 a.m., she was engaged to Oliver Queen. Really, it was all in a day’s work. Plotty, fluffy fun with a side dish of heart.)
The Best of Friendships have Benefits
(like Communism or time travel, having a sex-buddy sounds a lot better in theory than in practice. However, Oliver and Felicity see it as a means to rebuild each other. So, inevitable consequences be damned, they still give it a go, not expecting to gain a whole lot more than what they initially bargained for.)
Also, most fics by @yellowflicker09011996 will make you want to tear out your own heart but one of my favourites is: All The Worthy Places  (They say if you get hungry enough, you start eating your own heart. When she sits on top of him, arms and legs tight around him and kisses his mouth like she wants to eat him alive, Oliver believes it. ) and To Rage Against the Dying Light (There could be no time to think, no moment to feel. The dark was going to engulf him till there was nothing left, if he so much as flinched. He had known grief and he had known fear but this… this was wordless.Nobody had ever told him that ruin felt so much like death.)
The Fall Verse by @callistawolf
(Taking place directly after the events in “Sacrifice” (the season 1 finale), Felicity tries to pull Oliver back from the edge. But is Oliver ready to be pulled back? Or is he ready for the fall?)
Step By Step
(During the summer between seasons two and three, Oliver and Felicity are attempting to navigate their new status post-fake but not actually fake I love you's, and a kiss that may or may not have meant everything. Or: What would have been different for Oliver and Felicity if that summer had been about both of them truly coming to terms with what they meant to each other. Basically - Felicity decides to live her life, and Oliver realizes that her life doesn’t necessarily include him as much as he may want. How he reacts, and how Felicity responds to his actions, shape the future of their relationship.)
City of Fallen heroes
(Five years ago, Felicity was kidnapped and forced to do the unthinkable in order to return home. Convinced she couldn’t be the loving wife Oliver deserved, she left and tried to keep her darkness from hurting their daughters. The return of an old enemy will force Felicity to decide if she’s the monster she thought she was— or the hero her family believes her to be.)
Absolution
(It’s been two years since the Atom invented a plague that wiped out most of Starling City. With a ruthless government agency in control, and a hooded vigilante fighting to shut the Atom down, Felicity Smoak quickly learns that life post-apocalypse isn’t exactly like it seemed in movies.)
He Deserves a Shot at Being Happy alos by @chronicolicity
(Short version: an AU where Tommy Merlyn didn't die, and is around for season 2 of Arrow.Long version: Tommy Merlyn has spent most of his life being an expensive disappointment to his family, but now he's a part-owner of a semi-successful nightclub in the worst area of town (it's seriously looking up) alongside his best friend, who — after five years on a deserted island — decided to come back to be a freaking vigilante. It's a long story, one that's longer than Tommy wants to remember, but it took the Glades collapsing and the death of one of their best friends to get him officially done with being a troublemaker. Nothing interesting. Just running a nightclub, and trying not to get into any trouble.Oliver's been gone god knows where for most of the summer, which means he's stuck being the big brother to the guy's snarky little sister, whose boyfriend "Ron" seems completely set on getting himself killed. An afternoon of test-driving Verdant's new cocktails gets interesting when Felicity Smoak and John Diggle show up asking (more) questions about where to find Oliver, and Tommy has to decide whether he wants to keep his new rule.Spoiler alert: he doesn't.) It’s so good guys... THE SLOWEST OF SLOW BURNS BUT SO FLIPPING REWARDING.
In Another Life
(Their lives couldn't be more different - and yet Oliver can't take his eyes off the beautiful blonde woman that leaves the subway every morning at 7.43am. There is something about her that makes him look up every morning - something that also makes him aware he'll never be good enough for her, or that she'd even notice him.He had no idea how much his life would change the day he rushed over to help her...Olicity AU - no Lian Yu, no saving the city (at least not in the way we know from Arrow :D ))
Felicity Takes a Holiday
(Frustrated by Oliver's apparent indifference, Felicity takes a solo trip to NYC where she meets with unexpected dangers. Is it super-soldiers amped up on Mirakuru, or Beasts created by Muirfield? Starts at the end of Season 2; a story of how Oliver comes to realize that he is in love with Felicity, told with help from CW's Beauty and the Beast and a whole lot of Diggle.)
What’s a Little History Between Me and You by @sarcasticfina
([Canon-Divergent] In the wake of The Undertaking, Felicity returns to Starling City when her brother Tommy is severely injured, and soon finds her world turned completely upside down.)
THERE AREN’T THAT MANY SLOW BURNS @scu11y22

A sequel to ‘Smitten’
Title: Transfixed  Summary: A night out at the bar reunites Leonard and Sara. And also sparks another unexpected romance. All while Iris sits back and enjoys the show that Ray is completely oblivious to.
Rated: light M Characters: Leonard, Mick, Sara, Laurel, Iris, and Ray Ships: Captain Canary, Canaryfire .
.
.
“What the hell are those?” asked Mick as Ray Palmer came to their table with drinks. Drinks that had a lot of fruit and umbrellas in them. Ray shrugged while placing them on the table. “I’m not drinking those.”
“They’re good!” insisted Ray. “Give them a try.”
“I don’t do girly drinks,” muttered Mick, rising from his spot at the table, going to the bar.
“He doesn’t like me all that much, does he?” asked Ray.
“No one does,” said Leonard. Who then sighed as Ray’s face looked crestfallen. “I’m kidding, Ray. Mick is just a beer guy.” Leonard reached for the drink, plucking out the umbrella as well as the spear of fruit. He took a tentative sip of the drink, a burst of pineapple hitting his tongue, the sweetness almost overbearing. “As am I. So you know.”
“Noted,” said Ray, picking up his spear of fruit, but actually eating it instead of just discarding it. “Thanks again for taking me out. It means a lot. I just don’t know how I’ll manage without Kendra. I... I can’t believe she dumped me for her ex. Why does this always happen to me?”
“Hmm, I don’t know,” said Leonard. He was regretting asking Ray out for drinks already. But he was his co-worker. And he’d been depressed, which resulted in sloppy work, which then Leonard had to also answer for. While Ray created state-of-the-art equipment... Leonard did his best to find security flaws in it. Who knew he’d get paid for being a thief? If only his father could see him now. Leonard’s father was currently doing time... A lot of time... For armed robbery. Leonard hated to think what would have become of his life had he followed in his footsteps instead of going to school to get a degree. He’d done it mostly for Lisa... Someone he wanted far, far away from the life of a criminal after his one stint in juvie after his father left him behind to take the fall.
“Ah, see Haircut?” asked Mick as he came back to the table, beers in hand. “This is what men drink.”
“Hey, I’m fully confident in my sexuality, to drink this drink,” said Ray before taking a sip of his straw. Leonard smirked before also drinking the drink Ray bought.
“Ah man, Len, you too?” asked Mick, making Leonard shrug.
“It’s free.”
“Bah, whatever,” said Mick, taking a long drink of his beer, wiping his mouth with the sleeve of his shirt before pointing at the entrance of the bar. “Ah, the view in here just got much better.”
Leonard looked over his shoulder and he felt a small smirk tug at his lips. There, walking in and looking like she had no cares in the world, was Sara. He hadn’t seen her since the day he’d taken Lisa to the movies. She hadn’t been at the apartment when they’d come back. Leonard had been slightly disappointed. However, he also took his sister’s warning to heart. He’d backed off his desire to see more of her roommate. Of course, he’d also made the mental promise that if she came to him first... All bets would be off.
As if she knew someone was watching her she looked up. Their gazes met and she smiled, lifting her hand and giving him a little wave. She turned to speak to another blonde who looked somewhat similar to her and another woman with darker skin before heading toward their table.
“Oh my God she’s coming over,” whispered Ray.
“Play it cool, Haircut,” muttered Mick.
“Hey, Leonard!” greeted Sara.
“Sara. How are you?” he asked, aware of two sets of eyes starting at him. He ignored his friends and instead opted to keep his focus on her instead. She looked stunning in her black, leather pants and blue top that matched her eyes. Her hair was down, slightly curled at the ends, and she just glowed. And he was the moth to her flame, unable to break her gaze.
“Good. You?”
“Fine.” He motioned to the other women. “Who are you here with?”
“My sister Laurel, who is going through a bad breakup... And our friend Iris.”
“You can join us if you want!” piped up Ray, making Sara look at him. “I’m going through a bad break-up, too.”
“Maybe later. Girls night. You know how it is.”
“I’m Ray, by the way. I work with Leonard. And this is Mick!”
“Ah, Mick, I’ve heard about you from Lisa,” said Sara.
“And I’ve heard nothing about you. Which a shame,” said Mick, making Sara laugh.
“She’s Lisa’s roommate,” said Leonard, turning in his seat to face Ray and Mick once more.
“The one that likes to walk around half naked?” said Mick, making Sara blush slightly. “Lisa’s words. Not mine. She told me a while back about you and Leonard meeting.”
“Yeah, well, I better get back,” said Sara, looking at Leonard once more. “It was nice seeing you again.”
“Same,” said Leonard, and when she was back at her table he kicked out and connected with Mick’s shin. The burly man winced. “Seriously? You had to mention her walking around half-naked?”
“What? Damn, Snart, it was a joke.”
“A bad one!” he said with a glower.
“She’s cute,” said Ray, once again sipping his drink. “You should ask her out.”
“She’s off limits. According to Lisa.”
“In that case...” started Mick, making Leonard point at him.
“Don’t even think about it.”
.
.
.
“He’s cute,” commented Iris West as Sara returned to their table. Sara just offered her a smile before they ordered their drinks. When the waitress left, Iris spoke again. “Who was he again?”
“Lisa’s brother.”
“The guy who saw you half naked?” asked Laurel with a quirked brow.
“What?” asked Iris, nudging Sara. “You never told me that!”
“Well it wasn’t like it was on purpose. I had no idea he was there. I’d just gotten up... From your celebration party might I add... And needed water!”
“And whose fault is that?” asked Laurel with a grin, legs crossing under the table, her heeled foot bobbing slightly.
“Jack Daniel’s,” said Sara, making the other two women laugh. “Look, we’re here to take Laurel’s mind off of skeevy men, so let’s get back to that!”
“I don’t want to talk about Oliver,” said Laurel. “I just want to have a good night with my girls and not think about that... That-”
“Cheater,” finished Sara and Iris at the same time.
“Exactly,” said Laurel as their drinks arrived. All three ladies clinked their glasses together. “Cheers!”
“So, Sara, how’s school going?” asked Iris.
“Good. I’m sticking with it. Despite my inner desire to quit,” said Sara. “I only have a semester left. Then hopefully one day I can get my photos published with your articles.”
“I’ve seen your photos,” said Iris. “The Central City Citizen would benefit from your talents.”
“Though, I think that promise I made to myself to see some of the world before settling in one place might still be a thing,” said Sara with a shrug. “We’ll see.”
“Traveling is always fun,” said Iris.
“You and Barry going to travel for your honeymoon?” asked Laurel, who then sighed at the reluctant look on Iris’s face. “Just because I just got out of a relationship doesn’t mean you can’t talk about yours. Barry is a great guy. And we’re happy for you. I’m happy for you, okay? In fact, I’m going to strive to find my own Barry Allen some day.”
“He really is great,” said Iris with a big smile. “And we haven’t talked about honeymoons or anything like that yet. We just now got engaged. We’re going to take it a step at a time.”
“Good for you.”
“What about you, Sara?” asked Iris before looking over at the table Leonard was at. “Seeing anyone?”
“No.” Sara shook her head. “Not at this time.”
“Maybe we should just grow old together. Get some cats...” suggested Laurel.
“Laurel,” said an exasperated Sara. “We talked about this. We’d both get lap dogs and dress them in matching sweaters.”
The girls laughed.
“Seriously, though, you need to get back out there. Don’t let that tool Oliver deter you from finding love. It’s almost been a month,” said Sara.
“I know.” Laurel grew sad. “Just thought that he felt the same as I did.”
“I know what you need. A good rebound,” said Sara.
“What? No way!” said Laurel with a wave of her hand.
“Why not?” asked Sara as Iris settled back in her chair and sipped her drink. She knew she was in for a show. Sara always had crazy ideas. “I mean, c’mon Laurel, loosen up a bit. Get crazy! How many guys have you even had sex with?”
“Sara! That’s personal!” protested Laurel, frowning at her sister.
“So not that many,” said Sara with a grin, making Laurel groan, hiding her face with her hand. “All I’m saying is.. Have some fun. When the right guy comes along then snatch him up. In the meantime...” Sara started looking around the bar. “Why not enjoy being single for a while?”
“Please don’t try to match me with someone in this bar,” said Laurel, gesturing to the surrounding area.
“What’s wrong with the men here?” asked Sara, looking around. Her face scrunched up as she passed over each table. “Okay, I can see your point. Listen, the reason I chose this bar was for the booze. Half the time I’d pick up women here, anyway.”
“Just forget it,” said Laurel, who then smirked when remembering the table just a few over from theirs. “Though I suppose there is Leonard. He’s cute.” Sara tensed at that. “Unless... You’re interested?”
“What? No. What would you say that?” asked Sara, her denial a clue that she was, indeed, interested.
“Oh, please, it’s all over your face.” Laurel rolled her eyes. “Here you are getting on me about having fun... And you aren’t doing that yourself.”
“He’s Lisa’s brother...”
“So?” asked Laurel, a challenge to the tone of her voice.
“Fine!” Sara looked at that table. “If I’m hitting on him then you get the friend.”
“The one who looks like someone kicked his puppy?” asked Laurel.
“Ray? No. Besides, he doesn’t look like a one-night-stand kinda guy. And that’s what you need, Laurel Lance! Which is why I think you should go for Mick.”
All three women looked toward Mick. He was laughing about something, clapping Ray so hard on the back his drink sloshed out of his glass. Mick himself, proceeded to drink his beer, then slam the bottle down while wiping his mouth with the back of his hand.
“You can’t be serious,” said Laurel, far from amused.
“What? He’s kinda cute. His body looks amazing. Just because he doesn’t look like one of the pretty boys you usually go after...”
“I don’t always go after pretty boys,” protested Laurel.
“Well, there was Oliver,” said Sara.
“Tommy,” said Iris. “You had a crush on him for a while before you and Oliver got back together the third time... Wasn’t there a Gavin somewhere in there, too? Or was it Bruce?”
“Fine! I’ll go after him. To prove that I don’t always go after-”
“Spoiled rich boys?” finished Sara. “Who spend more time in front of a mirror than you do?”
“You’re impossible,” muttered Laurel. She pointed to Sara. “I’ll do it on one condition. You have to put the moves on Leonard.”
Sara rolled her eyes before looking over her shoulder at him. She sighed before downing her drink. She slid off her seat and both Laurel and Iris shared a look.
“This will be interesting,” said Iris.
.
.
.
“Blondie is on her way over,” said Mick.
“She is?” Ray looked up and waved. “Hey Sara!”
“Boys...” Sara then looked to Leonard as a new song started. “Wanna dance, Leonard?”
“You go on ahead,” said Leonard, his voice sounding almost seductive as his eyes traveled over her body before snapping back up to her gaze. “I’ll watch.”
“Suit yourself,” she said with a wink before making her way to the dance floor.
“I’ll dance with-”
“Sit your ass down!” said Mick, grabbing Ray by the collar of his shirt, pulling him down to his seat.
“But-”
“Trust me, Haircut,” said Mick. “This dance is for Snart. And Snart alone.”
“Huh?” Ray then looked to Sara, who was... Swaying her hips... Letting her hands... Go to certain places... And... Oh. Oh! “Oh...”
“Yeah, ‘oh’,” said Mick with a chuckle as Sara looked over her shoulder at Leonard and winked. “I swear to Christ if you don’t go after her... I will!”
“Shut up, Mick,” said Leonard, no real heat to his words, eyes just watching Sara dance. He brought his beer up to his lips and took a long drink. All while enjoying the show she was putting on for him. Some men tried to dance with her but she brushed them off. One looked like he was about to try again, but Sara had said something to him, something that had the man looking slightly nervous before walking away. When the song ended, she walked back to their table. Leonard didn’t even protest when she easily slid onto his lap, snagging his beer for a quick drink herself. “I was drinking that.”
“Were you?” she asked with a toss of her head. “Sorry. Let me make it up to you.”
It was then that Ray choked a little on his drink, having Sara look at him in slight amusement. “Sorry... Went down the wrong pipe.”
“Uh huh,” said Sara.
“You’re impossible,” grunted Mick, standing from his chair and grabbing Ray to stand as well. “C’mon Haircut. Your turn to buy the drinks.”
“Alone at last,” said Leonard, a slight drawl to his voice that Sara found almost enchanting in a way.
“Whatever shall we do?” she asked, looking to be thinking about it, twisting a strand of hair in her fingers.
“Oh...” His voice dropped down a few octaves, and his hand settled at her lower back. “I can think of a few things.”
.
.
.
“Wow. That’s impressive,” said Iris, watching as Sara slid onto Leonard’s lap.
“She makes it look so easy,” groaned Laurel.
“Well?” Iris pointed toward the bar where Mick was standing with Ray after escaping the table where Sara was now trailing her hand up and down Leonard’s chest. “Your turn.”
“Think I can just slip out without her noticing?” asked Laurel.
“Normally I’m on your side, but this time?” Iris shrugged. “What’s the harm? As Sara said... He doesn’t look like the kind of guy who’s looking for a relationship. Go have some fun. Take the walk of shame in the morning. Just, you know, text me later so that I know you didn’t go home with a serial killer.”
“That isn’t funny,” said Laurel, sighing. “Wish me luck.”
“Laurel...” Laurel looked at Iris. “You good?”
“Yeah.” Laurel slid off her seat, straightening her shoulders. “I’m good.”
She steadied herself on her black pumps and pulled down her dress a little. It suddenly felt tighter. She lifted her chin and walked to the bar. She stood on the other side of Mick and swallowed down her nerves before turning toward him. She tapped his shoulder lightly and he twisted around to stare at her. Being in her heels had her standing a little taller and gave her a bit more confidence to say what she was about to say.
“Can I help you?” he asked.
“Maybe,” she said. She licked her lips, slightly nervous still, and his eyes flicked down toward her mouth before slowly moving up to her eyes again. She canted her head to the side, reaching up and letting her hand settle over his. He looked at their hands then chuckled lightly before looking at her again. She just quirked an eyebrow.
“Hey, Haircut. I’m gunna take off,” he said, gaze still locked with Laurel’s.
“Wait, what?” asked Ray.
“Have Snart take you home,” said Mick, reaching up to drape an arm over Laurel’s shoulders. To her credit, she didn’t tense. The warmth was almost comforting in a way. He guided her toward the door. Laurel looked to Sara, who managed to glance her way and shoot her a thumbs up. Laurel brought her arm around Mick’s waist and together they walked out the door.
.
.
.
“He’s a good guy, right?” asked Sara, watching her sister leave.
“Mick? Sure,” said Leonard. He saw the worry in Sara’s eyes and he felt the need to reassure her. “Known him since I was a kid. Had a rough start but turned out okay. He’s a firefighter.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Mhm. Don’t worry.”
“She’s my sister. Hard not to.”
Leonard nodded at that. “I know what that’s like.”
“I put her up to it,” said Sara, shifting in his lap. “Just like she told me to finally put the moves on you.”
“Is that so?” he asked, now amused.
“Mhm,” she said with a smile before leaning in, ready to kiss him for the first time.
“Guys!” complained Ray, taking his seat again. “Mick left us!”
Leonard sighed and Sara laughed before looking to Ray.
“Not now, Ray,” said Leonard.
“He’s pretty drunk,” said Sara.
“You think I’m pretty? Awe, thanks!” said Ray, beaming, making Sara laugh before sliding off of Leonard’s lap.
“Maybe I should go so you can get your friend home.”
“I’ll call him a cab,” said Leonard.
“I still have my friend over at the other table,” said Sara, before reaching out her hand. “How about I give you my number? We can... Continue this another time?” Leonard handed her his phone and she put her number in before handing the phone back. She then leaned down and pressed her lips to his. The kiss was soft and yet still filled with promise. She pulled away slowly, then winked before heading back to Iris.
“I hate you,” said Leonard to Ray, watching Sara walk away.
“But you said I was pretty!”
.
.
.
The nerves were back. Laurel felt them increase with each step she took. He said his place wasn’t far. His arm was still around her. She could smell his cologne; mixed with the cheap beer he’d been drinking. There was still a small part of her who wanted to walk away, apologize to him for leading him on, and be on her merry way back to her apartment. Alone. Dressed in her comfortable pajamas with TV remote in hand.
“This is it,” he said, slowing in front of a brick building. She just nodded, following him up the steps. He dug in his pocket for his keys, unlocking the security door, removing his arm from her to hold the door open. He looked at her once more, as if studying her reaction still, and he gestured forward. “Well? You in or out?”
“In,” she said, walking through. She followed him up three flights of stairs. He opened the corner apartment and she entered. The place was dark. He dropped his keys on a table and she’d barely put her clutch down before his hands were at her waist. She brought her hands up to his chest and tilted her head up as he leaned down to kiss her for the first time. She sighed into the kiss, a jolt of desire traveling from her stomach down to between her legs. She kicked off her heels and pulled off his jacket at the same time.
“You look hot as hell in this dress by the way,” he said, hands trailing up her body.
“Thanks.”
She kissed him again and he chuckled against her lips before returning the kiss. One of his hands wound up in her hair while the other trailed from her bottom up to her upper back, then back down. Slowly he guided her to his bedroom, as if knowing she was still slightly skittish, giving her enough time to change her mind. Her hands went to the hem of his shirt and pulled it upwards. He helped her out and tossed his shirt to the floor before entering his room. He fought the urge to shiver as her hands trailed over the scarred skin of his chest.
“Fire,” he said, as her touch turned almost questioning. “Not from the job, though.”
“Job?” she asked.
“Firefighter.”
“Oh.”
She didn’t ask any more questions. Just sealed her mouth back over his again. He groaned as her hands moved confidently up and down his muscled back. His wandering hands found the clasp of her dress. He undid it, then trailed the zipper down until the dress fell and pooled at her feet.
“Damn you’re beautiful,” he said, hands transitioning toward her back where her black, strapless bra was clasped.
“Not so bad yourself,” she answered, hands going to his belt, ignoring that flutter hear her heart when he’d called her beautiful. This was a one night stand. She refused to get attached.
It wasn’t long before both were standing there. Naked. She took the first step to the bed, laying down on it. He followed her, still just kissing her, cupping her breasts. His dick was hard as a rock when her hand wrapped around it and he groaned. He pressed a kiss to her lips before kissing down her body. When the black furball that was his cat jumped up to the bed he sighed in annoyance.
“Not now, Diddles,” he muttered, shooing the cat away.
“Diddles?” asked Laurel, laughing softly.
“Yeah. Damn cat. Scram!” All the cat did was meow, before settling down at Laurel’s side. Laurel laughed once more, giving into the urge to pet the cat that had a piece of its ear missing and some missing spots of fur. “This is what I get for saving your ass from a fire? Cock-blocked?”
“You saved her from a fire?” asked Laurel as the cat purred loudly from her scratches.
“Uh, yeah, no one in the apartment complex claimed her so...” He shrugged. Then picked up Diddles and placed her on the floor. The cat yowled her displeasure before slinking away. He then looked down at the hot blonde who he internally labeled as a woman way out of his league. Hair fanned out on his pillow body open for his touch... She was a wet dream. All he wanted to do was get his cock inside her and lose himself for the night.  “Now where were we?”
“Right about here,” she said, taking his hand, pulling him back down on top of her.
.
.
.
Sara and Iris had finished one more drink before leaving. Leonard and Ray had left before them. Sara had to admit she’d been slightly disappointed that her night with Leonard had been cut short. When she got home she changed into her sweats and a t-shirt. When she crawled into bed her phone buzzed. She smiled when she saw the text from Leonard.
Can I come up?
She answered yes before rushing to the door. She opened it when he knocked softly. She didn’t give him any time to talk. She pressed her lips to his, aware of his hands trailing up her body. She moaned as his hands met her bare breasts beneath her top.
“Lisa here?”
“No.”
“Good.”
She grinned before gripping the hem of his shirt, pulling him toward her room, closing the door behind them with a giggle.

She’d fallen asleep. Shit. Shit, shit, shit. Laurel eased out of bed, giving the cat that’d curled around her legs a simple pet before searching for her clothes. She found them, neatly folded, on top of a dresser. She bit her bottom lip to keep from smiling but lost the battle before slipping her clothes on from the night before. Her shoes were out in the main room so she opened the bedroom door to find them. Immediately the smell of coffee hit her nose and she sighed while following it out to the main room. She paused when seeing a bathroom and entered in there instead. The room had a damp feel to it. He’d taken a shower. She flicked on the light and wiped the mirror. She scowled at her reflection before starting the water. She found a washcloth, making sure it was a darker colored one so her make up wouldn’t stain it, and scrubbed her face with it. She combed her fingers through her hair then exited the room. It didn’t take her long to realize she was alone in the apartment. She found a note taped to the door.
Help yourself to coffee before you go. Had an early shift. Didn’t want to wake you. -Mick
She really should go. But the coffee smelled amazing. So she helped herself. Using the cup set aside for her. She found her clutch and pulled her hair up in a tie before checking her phone. No messages, but she texted both Iris and Sara to let them know she was fine. She then enjoyed the silence while drinking her coffee near the sink. The cat hopped up on the counter sometime later, begging for pets. Laurel gave in easily to give the feline attention.
“I can’t believe he named you Diddles.”
She finished her coffee, slipped on her shoes, then grabbed her clutch. She hesitated for a minute before grabbing a pen out of her bag to write beneath his message on the same piece of paper.
515-555-6109 - Laurel
“So much for one night stands, huh, Diddles?” asked Laurel before opened the door and closing it behind her after locking the knob lock only. She exited the apartment with a slight wince, missing her sunglasses, before hailing a cab to take back to her apartment.
.
.
.
“Lisa is going to kill us,” said Sara.
“She can try. I like our odds against her,” answered Leonard.
“Hm...” She closed her eyes as his hand trailed up and down her bare back. “Do you need to leave soon?”
“Trying to get rid of me, Lance?”
“No. Just hoping you don’t have to work today.”
“It’s Sunday. So no. I’m free.”
“We could spend the whole day in bed.” Both tensed at the sound of the door opening and closing. “Yeah. I like that idea.”
Leonard chuckled before shifting in the bed so that he could lean down to kiss her. Morning breath be damned. Sara kissed him back, shifting against him, the covers falling from the both of them... They stilled at the knock on Sara’s door.
“Hey Sara?” asked Lisa.
“Yeah?”
“When you and my dork of a brother are done in there, I’d like to talk to you both,” said Lisa.
“Busted,” said Leonard with a grin, making Sara groan.
“Great.”
.
.
.
“So believe it or not, Lisa was totally cool about it,” said Sara before taking a bite of her pasta. She was having dinner with her sister at her place. Sara had to admit that she loved having her sister so close. They’d fought a lot when they were younger, but now... Sara depended on Laurel a lot.
“That’s good.”
“So how did your night go?” asked Sara.
“Really well,” said Laurel.
“You’re blushing! Damn. It must’ve been good!”
“Great,” corrected Laurel, taking a sip of her wine then attacking her own plate of pasta. She chewed her food, swallowed, then frowned. “I did leave my number. He... Hasn’t gotten back to me yet.”
“Oh. Sorry, Laurel.”
Laurel shrugged. “To be honest. It started off as a one-night stand anyway. It’s okay. Maybe its for the best. Like you said... It’s good to be single for a while. It’ll help me get some much needed perspective. But I’m glad you and Leonard are doing well.”
“He asked me out for a date tomorrow.” Sara smiled. “He makes me happy.”
“Good,” said Laurel with a smile just as her phone vibrated on the table. She glanced down and saw the unknown number. She pressed to read the message and smiled.
Worked a double. Was so damn tired I didn’t see your note until now. What are you up to tomorrow night?

The Curse of Immortality
I don’t know how many people remember Immortality, but something pushed me to write a sequel for it. And I’m choosing to publish it now in a fit of procrastination.
AO3
Leonard stood in front of the grave, a bouquet of lilies in his hand. Bending down, he set them on the ground before Sara’s gravestone. It had been ten years since he had lost her, and over fifty five years since he had stopped aging due to his extended time spent in the temporal zone after the Oculus. He had watched her grow old, witnessed his children grow up, seen his friends age and die, and all that time he had stayed the same. Even though he was nearing one hundred, Leonard still looked like he was in his forties.
“Happy anniversary,” he said, a sad smile flickering over his face. “It’d be fifty-four today.”
Sometimes, he could swear that he heard her laughing, or feel her hand on his shoulder. Right now, that’s what he felt. It happened with all the people he loved. They were his ghosts, the lucky ones that got to move on while he stayed behind.
“We almost made forty-five,” he said. “I know you wanted to. I still remember you stubbornly insisting to me and the kids that you were going to make it. You wanted to go skydiving to prove it. And you were so close to making it. Just a few more days, and you would have made it.”
The memory of waking up to find out that she was gone remained in his nightmares. It had been peaceful, in her sleep. She had looked so calm and at peace that he still wanted to believe she was only sleeping and would wake up any second. But there would be no waking up for Sara Snart ever again. She had now joined Mick and Lisa and the many other faces in his dreams that he couldn’t save.
“I’m helping out with the latest version of Team Flash more since I came back to Central City,” Leonard continued. “They’re good kids, but they’re so young. Bart’s just like Barry, believing there’s good in everyone. You’d be proud of Dinah too. Monica gave her your old staff, and she’s mastered it well. Mikey can use it well too, but he likes the heat gun better. Mick would be proud to see it’s in good hands.”
He sighed. “They all ask me and Jax about you, and Oliver, and Laurel, and all the other heroes. Bart met his grandparents a few times when he went back in time, but he wants to know more about them and the others. Whenever I tell them, I remember how much I miss you and the others. I’m still not aging, but I wish that I was. One day, everyone I know will be gone, and I’ll be all alone. I don’t want to be alone, Sara. I wish I could find a way to join you.”
Behind him, someone shuffled up next to him. “You’ve gotten sappy, you know that?”
Leonard pressed his lips together and sighed. “Comes with age, kid. Besides, you’re no better with the new heroes.”
“I’m in my seventies,” Jax grumbled, his eyes glaring with amusement at Leonard through thick glasses. “I’m no ‘kid’ anymore. Just a sad old man. We’re both two sad old men.”
“That’s an understatement,” Leonard muttered, looking in the direction he knew Mick’s grave was in. “And one day, I’ll be the only sad old man. You’re the last friend I have left here.”
“I’m not leaving you yet,” he chuckled, shaking his head. “Besides, there’s still one last person who’s gonna be here after me.”
As the last remainder of Firestorm said this, a portal opened behind them. Leonard and Jax turned around, the latter more slowly. Through the swirling blue stepped an older woman, one they both knew very well.
“Kara,” Leonard nodded.
“Leonard, Jax,” Kara Danvers-Olsen smiled weakly at them. Her alien DNA had caused her to age slowly, but her blonde hair was threaded with silver and crinkles had formed around her eyes and mouth.
“What brings Supergirl to our Earth?” Jax asked. “Do we need to assemble our heroes?”
“Nothing like that,” Kara shook her head, her face shifting into grief. Leonard was well tuned to the emotion, having gone through it so many times. “I know what today is to you, Leonard. But I needed to talk to people I knew here.”
Leonard straightened up. “What happened?”
“Alex…” Kara’s voice broke. “Last night…she…she’s gone now.”
Jax stepped forward to hug her, and she buried her face in his shoulder. Leonard swallowed the new grief rising up. Alex had been a good friend. Hearing she was gone meant that he had lost another person in his life, even if she was a few Earths away.
“She hadn’t been doing well after losing Maggie,” Kara whispered tearfully. “That was before she even got sick. I did everything I could for her, but it was too much in the end.”
“I know,” Leonard told her. He had gone through the same thing with Lisa a few years ago too. “How’s J’onn?”
“He still hasn’t come back yet,” the Kryptonian replied. “I’ve lost James, I’ve lost Winn and Clark, and now Alex. I’m starting to think that he’s never coming back. That I’m the last one now.”
“Not true,” Leonard told her. “We’re still here. You can stay here as long as you like.”
Kara jumped forward and hugged him. “Thank you. I just really don’t want to be alone.”
Leonard returned the embrace, trying not to think again of how one day, he would be completely alone. “It’s no problem.”

6. what’s a role you’d like to play that you’d never be able to?
I’m probably never able to play any of the roles I just mentioned, so…
7. do you prefer being behind the scenes or in the spotlight?
i mean going into dramaturgy, I will have to be happy with staying behind the scenes, but my heart will always bleed because I’m not on stage
8. do you like hamilton?
IT’S MY JAM I LOVE IT SO MUCH I CRY
9. have you seen hamilton?
AND I CRY SOME MOREmaybe one day, now that it’s coming to London
10. how do you feel about hyped up shows like hamilton, les mis, and rent?
Honestly, I couldn’t care less about how hyped they are. I love all my faves equally, doesn’t matter if it’s Wicked or some obsure 40’s book musical no one has played for decades. the good thing about hyped shows is: better cast recordings, better bootlegs, movie versions, all that nice stuff.
11. did you like this year’s tony awards?
didn’t watch the last tonys tbh. i don’t even know why, there wasn’t any particular reason
12. what award should there be that isn’t?
huh, don’t know, maybe one that specifically honours female writers and composers?
13. what shows have you been in/helped with?
mostly plays: my first one was Andorra, then a Shakespeare mashup thingie, then an original play about a teen with Aids, then an awesome one that was called The Trojan War Will Not Take Place, then Pension Schöller, then I was singing Carmina Burana, then Andorra again, and then a revue kinda thingie where we did various songs from musicals, operetta, opera, some choreographies, some other stuff… I probably forgot a few things, but oh well.
14. have you ever been paid to act onstage or on camera?
haha nope
15. do you prefer broadway or west end shows?
well I’ve never been to broadway. I’ve seen a couple of shows on west end tho. but one day I will go to Broadway and watch all the shows. have to get awfully rich first though
16. favorite stage actress?
Pia Douwes was one of my first stage crushes. of the german speaking ones, I also really love Sabrina Weckerlin, Annemieke van Dam, Lucy Scherer, Isabel Dörfler and Kerstin Ibald. Internationally, i have a huge crush on Kelli O'Hara, Phillipa Soo, and Alexia Khadime.
17. favorite stage actor?
Carl van Wegberg was my first crush, 12 years ago in Elisabeth. Rasmus Borkowski tho. And Oliver Arno and Serkan Kaya and Ben Platt and Nic Rouleau and tbh I have a bit of a thing for Aaron Tveit. Neil Patrick Harris, I know, I know, but DAMN i’m still not over his “Being Alive” and never will be.
18. favorite show currently or recently running?
Might be Dear Evan Hansen. I don’t know it well enough yet to say for certain, but damn, I love it!!!!
19. what’s your dream #ham4ham (even if you don’t like hamilton)?
my favorite one? obviously the schuyler georges. and the one where they got various people to do guns and ships. or is the question, who would I want to be at a ham4ham? Then my answer is Dame Julie Andrews of course. damn, forgot to mention her at my fave actresses.
20. who should host the tony’s next year?
LMM? With Dwayne The Rock Johnson as a co-host.
21. do you watch broadwaycom backstage vlogs?
from time to time. though it’s been ages since i last did that.
22. what’s your opinion on movies turned into musicals?
well, everything is turned into musicals these days. I don’t care so much what the source material is, as long as the music is good and the characters are great and it works with the plot. i mean, generalizing doesn’t really work, because you got stuff like Heathers, and then something like the Spiderman musical, so…
23. do you prefer musical movies or live musicals?
i love both, for very different reasons. i mean live theatre though. i have yet to find anything in this world that compares to it.
24. do you have an opinion on american psycho?
haven’t seen it. don’t care about it.
25. what movie would you want to be turned into a musical?
hmm. something gay. Imagine Me And You maybe? Or, wait, hold on, holy shit. PRIDE THE MUSICAL.
26. what role would you like to see your favorite actor play?
umm…. Ben Platt should go places, and get the parts he wants to have, and get to create new parts, because he’s amazing and he deserves it and I would probably watch him play a banana peel for two hours straight because he’d be amazing at that as well.
27. do you prefer musicals, plays, or operas?
I LOVE ALL OF IT???? DON’T MAKE ME CHOOSE THAT’S SO RUDE
28. dramatic plays or comedies?
again, cannot choose. both is good.
29. andrew lloyd webber or stephen sondheim?
Sondheim, always. I love JCS and I will fight anyone for the trash show that is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, but that’s about it with Webber. Sondheim hasn’t done anything wrong in his life, ever, and I know this, and I love him.
30. neil patrick harris or james corden?
i mean, I love James Corden, but I mentioned it before, NPH in Company. BRUH.
31. did james corden do a good job hosting the tony’s (in your opinion)?
don’t know, didn’t see it
32. create a show mash-up and explain the plot (ex: legally todd = sweeney todd + legally blonde)
umm???? okay I’m tired and not very clever anymore, so the only thing I can come up with is
hamilrent - a couple of angry twenty- and thirtysomethings trying to make a change in american politics while being broke af
33. what song always makes you cry?
“Being Alive”. Isn’t it boring that I keep on bringing this up over and over again? I know. I still cry. Also “Children Will Listen” from Into The Woods. And “Wo ist der Sommer” from 3 Musketiers. And so far, “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen.
34. how do you feel about musicals using other artists’ music?
like in jukebox musicals? I’m mostly trash for it tbh. We Will Rock You is such a trash fest but I love it, and I will always fight anyone on Mamma Mia.
35. what celebrity would you like to see on broadway next?
idk amandla stenberg?
36. favorite show you’ve been in?
we did a huge medley of “Im Weißen Rössl” once and tbh i love this operetta. it’s cheesy af but who cares.
37. would you like to act professionally?
i would. i gave that up a while ago though, when I realized I was too disabled to be accepted into acting schools.
38. television or stage acting?
i would personally always choose the stage over television acting, but I don’t necessarily think one is better than the other
39. what disney movie should be a musical that isn’t?
not sure if moana could work on stage but damn i love that music
40. if you could see one show on broadway or west end, what would it be?
i really miss book of mormon and I want to see it again, but hamilton or dear evan hansen would be first i guess. or fun home.
41. what musical should be revived next?
i’m so glad miss saigon is coming back, i love it. how about we bring back Into The Woods?
42. are musical sequels okay?
i personally don’t care much for them, but i don’t condemn them. like, i dislike theatre that’s made solely for the purpose of making money, which is something sequels are usually about. but that doesn’t mean that sequels are always and will always be a bad thing.
43. what musical sequel would you like there to be that isn’t?
umm???? well it would make sense for there to be a wicked sequel, since the book has a sequel as well? or, maybe not exactly a sequel, but more history musicals in the style of hamilton? that’d be rad.
44. have you ever had a crush on a character from a show?
umm. … no? *sweats nervously* why would you ask that…….? … never
45. how do you feel about musicals being done live on tv now?
i think it’s a cool idea in general, making musicals more accessible to a wider audience, in a way that’s closer to live theatre. i just think the format is still too new and it needs a lot more practice until it’s going to work.
46. did you like grease live?
haven’t seen it
47. are you excited for hairspray live?
i was really excited beforehand, and then i was absolutely disappointed because it was more racist, more sexist, more ableist, and generally worse than the movie version, and while the cast was good, it wasn’t good enough to save bad directing.
48. what show do you desperately want your school/community to do?
well, I want RENT to be back in Germany, and not in the horrible German translation please. Maybe my current employer could get on that? they’re known for excellent stagings of musicals, and they also did Anything Goes in the english original.
49. are you a stronger singer or dancer?
i’m not great at either but I love doing both. since my body is a bit shit though, I suppose i have a slight advantage for my singing.
50. would you rather design the set, direct the show, or help with effects?
i already helped with video and audio effects once, that was fun. i’m no good at set design, and directing doesn’t sound too bad, but I’m not into the creative pressure that comes along with directing. i think I’ll just stick to my dramaturgy. :P
thanks love, for all the questions!
