❛ i’m not afraid of you. ❜ <3
Thirty minutes late.
Unsurprising, but still annoying. Yamato should be at the training field with Naruto, Sakura and Sai, but instead he was standing in the middle of his Senpai’s little apartment having a stand off with Maito Gai.
His Senpai? Naturally he was splayed out on the couch, head resting on Gai’s lap and eyes closed to the world. There was no doubt in Yamato’s mind that he was asleep.
Not a care in the world.
It was rude. Yamato was out here acting like an adult, and Kakashi was snoozing.
He wanted to be the one snoozing for once.
“Wake him up.” It’s a request spoken with urgency. Kakashi has a job to do and Yamato will ensure he does it, no matter what forces he has to face in the process.
“No,” Gai just smiles up at him as his fingers card through Kakashi’s hair. “He had a rough night.”
“We’ve all had rough nights,” he had seen Kakashi work off of two hours of sleep over a week. One night of terrible sleep would not be the end of him. “He has students to train.”
“And he will train them,” Gai assured him with the same youthful pride he always carried in his voice. “After a nap.”
“They’ve already been waiting thirty minutes.”
“That’s nothing.” True, but Yamato wasn’t in the mood for arguments.
“Wake him up, please.”
This time Gai at least had the decency to look like he was thinking about it. Perhaps he was trying to give Yamato false hope, but after years of working along side Hatake Kakashi it was impossible.
The only hope Yamato had was for his Senpai to not be a complete disaster for five minutes. So far, that had not happened.
“No.”
“Please.”
“He needs his rest.”
“At the cost of my sanity?”
Gai snorted. “You’re being dramatic, Yamato.”
“You can’t say that to me while protecting Kakashi-Senpai from me,” dramatic. How insulting. The king of drama was sleeping on his lap and Gai had the gull to call him dramatic. “Wake him up, or I will wake him up.”
“Do that, and you’ll have to deal with me.”
A threat. He never thought he would see the day.
If Gai thought it would make him back down, he was sorely mistaken.
“I’m not afraid of you.”
“You should be. I am Kakashi’s eternal rival after all.”
One of the strongest shinobi in all of Konoha, capable of taking on Shinobi far stronger than Yamato.
It did nothing to detour him.
“Ma,” Kakashi shifted on Gai’s lap, cracking his right eye open to peer up at them. “Could you two flirt later? When i’m not trying to sleep?”
Flirting?
Him, flirting with Gai? His Senpai’s boyfriend. The man he had watched Kakashi pine after for years.
“Senpai…”
Stretching his arms over his head, Kakashi groaned. “I guess it’s time to get up,” he sighed dramabticlly, never willing to let Yamato get a word of complaint out against his teasings. “Before Yamato developes a crush. I’m not fond of sharing.”
“I have a boyfriend…”
“Mmm, you’re right,” Kakashi rolled his head back against Gai’s thigh. “But I’ve seen Iruka’s eyes linger a little.”
“Senpai…”
Without a word the older man jumped off of the couch and headed through the window, only pausing long enough to wave goodbye to Gai and promise to meet up with him after training before disappearing outside.
“You might want to go after him.” Gai tried to hide his laighter, but Yamato could hear the little snicker in his voice. The joy he got from watching his boyfriend relentlessly tease Yamato.
“Both of you…” he grumbled, turning towards the window. “You’re made for each other.”
“We are in love.”
“And you’re both insufferable.”

Naruto Fic Rec 1/∞
Naruto Fic Recs: [1] [2] Fic Masterlist here for full list.

** Kill Your Heroes by TheLightAtLastAndAlways
Word Count:  268,501 (68/?)
Summary:  It's time to stop waiting for other people to save you. A story about fear, resilience, and Sakura.
Comments:  Slow Burn BAMF!Sakura. Also, Kakashi working his way up to being a good teacher and good mentor to Sakura. Genjutsu-type!Sakura.
☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆
** Bleed Out by HazelBeka
Word Count:  103,754 (16/16)
Summary:  After Iruka’s confrontation with Kakashi before the chuunin exams, he’s targeted by a serial killer who seems to be picking off disrespectful chuunin. Iruka survives, but it’s only a matter of time before the killer returns to finish the job. Finding his name on the suspects’ list, Kakashi bullies his way onto Tenzou’s investigation in an attempt to clear his name and protect Iruka from the real threat.
Comments:  Murder Mystery, ANBU, Seals Master!Iruka, basically all the best tropes all in one fic. This was the first Naruto fic I ever read, so I’m very attached and compare all KakaIru fics to this one.
☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆
** The Bingo Book by flailinginlove
Word Count:  64,500 (10/10)
Summary:  Kakashi avoided relationships. He didn't want to put others in danger. So he couldn't understand why there was a face staring back at him, as a sub-entry to his own, in this Bingo Book. Umino Iruka (lover) the caption read. It didn't matter that it wasn't true. The Book was fact, and to Kakashi's enemies, Iruka had just become a weakness they could exploit.
Comments:  Sensor-type!Iruka, ANBU, awkward KakaIru, what else could you possibly want in a fic? I love it when Iruka surprises people with how good of a ninja he is, even though he's "just a chuunin teacher". One of my favorite tropes, along with his chakra-location (like echolocation) from that one episode. Also, flailinginlove is an amazing author and you should go check out more of their stories.

How to File Form 39-B by thehoyden
Word Count: 10,426 (1/1)
Summary: The first time Iruka met Hatake Kakashi, he was still on some pretty god painkillers.
Comments: Kakashi/Iruka. This one is cute, very light-hearted read with a pinch of angst and a heaping of Iruka parenting Naruto.
☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆
The Bijozakura Seal by megyal
Word Count: 38,055 (13/13)
Summary: Kakashi and Iruka are bonded together, entirely against their wishes. While Iruka begins to deal with it, Kakashi still has… doubts.
Comments: Mission!fic, the two start off not exactly friends, and this fic definitely leans into the angsty and kinda uncomfortable, not-as-often-considered side of having a psychic bond with someone you don't know that well or trust.
☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆
Part of the Pack by SparrowStrike
Word Count: 125,303 (37/37)
Summary: Legend has it the Hatake Clan is an off shoot of the Inuzuka Clan. It's where they get their sharp teeth, affinity for ninken, and tendency to casually adopt every other person they meet.
When Kakashi realizes Naruto's assigned caretakers aren't even sort of doing their job, the young anbu decides to do a bit of long term babysitting (and possibly commit treason). What follows is the story of Uzumaki-Hatake Naruto and his unconventional family.
This is primarily a slice of life piece and heavy on both fluff and angst. It covers a lot of the canon events and has cannon typical violence and darker themes. It can be read as a stand alone, but is the first work of 3 planned in this AU.
Comments:  Dad!Kakashi raising Naruto, lots of politics, hella canon divergence. Part 1 of 3 in The Pack series.
☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆
Roots and Wings by ideaoforder
Word Count:  84,985 (12/12)
Summary:  When Naruto is kidnapped from his orphanage at age three, Kakashi is so done with this shit. He gets Naruto back, tells the Hokage where to go (politely, because he isn't suicidal), and raises the boy himself. Or, you know, tries and is proud when there aren't too many explosions.
Then everybody starts to copy him and it's a whole thing.
Comments:  Found family plus Fix-It fic galore! Focus on Kakashi being a good dad to Naruto, but does have some pairings aren’t that central to the plot: Kakashi/Iruka, Naruto/Shikamaru. Bonus Iruka being a Fuuinjutsu BAMF.
☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆
** by my blood by justdoityoufucker
Word Count:  30,892 (7/7))
Summary:  Kakashi finds love and family, all in one near-successful murder.
Comments:  KakaIru. Found family trope, Everyone Lives / Nobody Dies, Jiraiya is a Hatake, Iruka Whump. This is 100% one of my new favorite Naruto fics, its not what you are expecting and I love it.
☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆  •  ☆
Thought and Feeling Interwound by tucuxi
Word Count: 36,122 (1/1)
Summary:  Tsunade walked around the desk and sat directly next to Iruka, turning both of their chairs with a casually powerful grasp. In the end they were facing each other, not the desk. He tried and failed to hold her gaze. She reached out and tipped his chin up, forcing him to look at her again. Another hit landed. This time it came from Iruka's left. It felt like it must have shattered bone, ribs grinding against each other in his chest, and Iruka bit his tongue almost until it bled to keep from crying out.
“Tell me, Iruka-sensei,” Tsunade said. “How long, exactly, have you been feeling Hatake Kakashi’s emotions?"
Comments:  Kakashi/Iruka. Accidental Soul Bond fic, also known as Jutsu Gone Wrong. Slowburn fic with lots of denial and angst and misunderstandings.

hii may I ask for a yandere Sasuke and Kakashi with a s/o who's kind of a big rebel. like she doesn't to wanna give up so she fights, and answers back you know? like she just doesn't want to leave her life behind so she tries to make it hard for them. And how they'd react like what would they do about it. Also if you only write one character per request please choose whoever you prefer.
SASUKE UCHIHA
🍙 I've always mentioned how Sasuke doesn't want a nonchalant lover, as he is relatively vacant himself. It's like fighting fire with fire, he frankly needs someone who declares what's on their mind. Who isn't too timid to oppose his actions. But a rebel wasn't what he had in mind.
❂——"You're something else indeed, I'm surprised you have even a little bit of will left."
🍙 You not leaving your new life behind is acceptable, Sasuke hasn't either. Although if it causes you to rebel against him it won't mean anything to him. He's greedy as an adult or juvenile, but not outwardly once he matured.
🍙 Sasuke isn't a kind man, overall, at least not in his days of youth. Your advances are nothing more than a setback that he'll ultimately overcome. It may take a while but he anticipated nothing less.
❂——"Why do you insist on fighting so much? We both know the outcome will be the same."
🍙 As violent as he can be that doesn't mean he doesn't at least enjoy watching your chaotic nature. You undoubtedly keep him on his toes, in more ways than one. In all honesty, he prefers it, you remind him of Naruto in numerous aspects. You stir a fire in him in ways that only Naruto was capable of, Sasuke was right when he deemed you special.
🍙 In the end, Sasuke might just manipulate you as that's what he does best. He'll make you want to abide with him, he'll make you believe he has overall reasonable intentions. He'll compel you to see it through his eyes, see through his trauma. Telling you his reasons are nothing but pure!
❂——"I'm not asking you to leave your family, am I? I'm asking for you to love me, am I really the selfish one, {Name}?"
Tumblr media
KAKASHI HATAKE
📚 Any challenge is appreciated and Kakashi won't give in that easily. If you want a fight, he'll give you one and there's no backing out from it. He'll turn it into a game, which will make him impossible to deal with.
📕——"This is a challenge, huh? What hardships will I face by your 'almighty' hands?" He joked, lending you his signature closed eye smile.
📚 I believe Kakashi to be a very family-oriented man, despite not getting to experience a family of his own. But if he has his eyes set on you he'll be damned if he lets you go. After everything he's been through in life he can be selfish for once, right?
📚 This man can outsmart you without a doubt. With every step you take he five more ahead of you, he honestly wants to see how long it'll last, how long until you give in, and trust me, he can wait pretty damn long. Kakashi doesn't take you too seriously. If you'd like to test it he's got all day.
📕——"Ah, mind games? You didn't actually think this could get me, right {Name}? For such a high-ranked ninja I thought you'd think smarter."
📚 With him, he won't let you slip through his fingers of course, but he won't necessarily force you to stay put. He's always watching, no doubt, though he'll show you that you "need" him and he's not doing this for his selfishness. If you're capable to protect yourself or not he'll always end up saving you over and over again.
📚 In the end, he's more of a person to wait, to tire you out into his arms. He's thinking about the long-term effects of just forcing you, Kakashi would rather not give you a reason to blame him. Therefore he'll just let you fully come to him and accept your fate since he technically didn't "force you." He's playing this game just as much as you are.
📕——"Ah, Ah, Ah, Not so fast, If my memory is correct it was you who wanted to be together. What's wrong, cat got your tongue? That's a new one."

Lover (Kakashi x fem!Reader Fluff/Songfic)
A/N: so I have recently been listening to this on repeat and figured I could make some use out of it so....here you go babies <3
18+ PLEASE!
~
There’s a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you dear
I look across the bar, strangers lined shoulder-to-shoulder sipping away their sorrows, others simply looking for quick companionship. For me, it was for people watching. The elders, ready to scold any young person who will humor them, the middle-aged escaping on their one night of freedom from their children, and the young adults like myself just trying to pass the late evening time. My focus on a man reprimanding a younger man for having long hair was disrupted as soon as I laid eyes on him: shrouded in mystery, a mask concealing his face up to his nose, Shinobi forehead guard loosely hanging over one eye. I felt his gaze before I knew he existed, and as soon as I met it, I nearly gasped. Something about him...I had to introduce myself.
Have I known you twenty seconds or twenty years?
The connection was instant. Before long, we were both laughing hysterically into our drinks; sharing stories of battles, our childhoods, how there’s nothing wrong with reading until the sun comes up, compared who made worse puns and shared a mutual obsession with dogs. It was as if we were old lifelong friends, catching up after years of separation.
“Did you know that I was the one who won the limited edition Icha Icha? Naruto gave them to me for three bowls of ramen.”
“I’ll let you dogsit my Ninken for a whole week if you let me borrow it.”
“A week?! No way, Hatake.”
“...Then how about I take you on a date?” He smirks, even through the mask I could tell he enjoyed the blush that appeared on my face at that comment.
“You have yourself a deal.”
Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close, forever and ever?
Three months have gone by; I wake up to a rustling sound and the dip of someone getting out of bed next to me. Kakashi was gathering his clothes as if he were trying to make a hasty exit.
“What’re you doing?” I asked, rubbing my eyes and checking the time, “It’s 4:30 in the morning, did you get called in for a mission assignment?”
He shakes his head, a look of guilt painting his beautiful features.
“I was...I was just gonna head home, is all.”
I immediately got up from my bed, approaching him and taking his hands gently in mine.
“Why?” My whisper had a twinge of sadness in it, but I didn’t want to guilt him.
“Don’t want to overstay my welcome,” he smiled, but I wasn’t buying it.
“You could never do that. Everything is better when you’re here,” I caressed his cheekbone with my thumb, feeling him soften, “please don’t go.”
“As long as you’re sure,” he leaned into my touch, smiling warmly at me, “I...I love you, y/n. I have for a little while now.”
I almost didn’t even register his words, it shocked me so much. Once I was able to process, I just laughed in pure joy.
“I love you too,” I hummed as he kissed me sweetly, “forever.”
Take me out, take me home, you’re my my my, Lover
We barely made it in the door of our now shared apartment, kissing each other fervently and pawing at the other’s clothing frantically.
“So fucking beautiful, look at you,” he croons in my ear, voice strained and gravelly with need as he pulled me to our bed.
Our eyes locked as he slowly thrust himself inside me, our mutual breath hitching.
“I love you so much, so good for me, always,” he panted, pulling cries and moans of ecstasy from me, nails ripping down the skin of his strong back.
“I love you too, Kakashi,” I managed between moans, reeling at his response of a groan, and the feeling of him spilling inside me, which brought me to my release as well. We fell asleep, forehead to forehead, him still inside.
Ladies and Gentlemen, will you please stand? I take this magnetic force of a man to be my Lover
I walked slowly down the aisle, adorned in a white ball gown, arm-in-arm with my father. Then I saw him. Our eyes met, his full of tears, threatening to stain his Hokage robes, and I could tell he was itching for me to get up there. It made my heart skip a beat, and I walked a little bit faster. We were announced as husband and wife and shared a kiss, then made our way to our reception, and our forever.
And you’ll save all your dirtiest jokes for me, and at every table, I’ll save you a seat
“Over here, my love,” I waved, adjusting our newborn daughter on my hip as I pointed to the empty chair next to mine, wrapped in birthday streamers, “what’s with the grin?”
He leaned in, whispering a filthy joke into my ear, making me blush, and then toss my head back in laughter.
“In front of the baby?!” I giggled.
“Just wait, she’s going to have my sense of humor.” He winked, taking her from me and kissing her tiny nose. My heart swelled, happiness overwhelming me.
Darling, you’re my my my my, Lover.

Wanted
Kakashi Hatake was frustrated as he sat alone on his bed, his lights turned off and blankets over his shoulders as he drank from the bottle of wine he was holding in one of his hands by its neck. It wasn't that strong, not enough to muddle his senses to the point where he couldn't feel anymore, but Guy had made him promise to stop drinking hard liquor to drown his feelings.
So, he resorted to drinking light liquor like wine and beer as a replacement. It wasn't as satisfying for the lonely nights and still left him with the same killer hangovers in the morning, but he supposed it would work until he could find a better coping mechanism that worked as well.
It was dark outside as he stared out his window, halfway through the bottle, which would be the equivalent of a glass or two- not nearly enough to get him drunk, but enough to have him somewhat buzzed and a little dizzy, hence why he didn't stand up to object when no other than Might Guy tumbled into his bedroom through the window.
Might Guy, his best friend, one of the only people who cared, the love of his life- not that Guy knew about that last one, of course. Kakashi hadn't told him about his feelings and that was probably for the best. Guy had a hard enough time dealing with Kakashi's mess of a self most days even though they were only friends, and Kakashi could only imagine how much worse it would be if they were dating. On top of that, Kakashi and love had never mixed all that well- more like oil and water than anything, as every time he had loved someone and allowed them to love him in return, they inevitably wound up dead. Plus, as much as Guy seemed enthusiastic to be around him, Kakashi knew that the ravenette didn't want him like that. They were just rivals; friends.
The only version of Kakashi that anyone seemed to want was the cool, calm, and collected one who could handle everything by himself. Not the emotional wreck who turned to alcohol for comfort and pushed everyone away. After joining the Anbu, it seemed that was all he had become- especially around Guy, who he never saw these days aside from times like this where he'd be trying to sulk and the older man would interrupt to try and make everything better.
The other Jonin paused before walking across the room and sitting down on Kakashi's bed, right next to him. Kakashi didn't look up, not wanting to see the face of disappointment that he knew was there.
"You know that's bad for you, rival," Guy scolded, taking the bottle of wine out of his hands, but taking a swig of it himself before setting it down on the nightstand, not even bothering to look for the cork or anything else to close it with.
"Don't care," Kakashi spat, though that was a lie.
He cared- not because he cared about himself or his own health, but because Guy cared and as much as he craved and appreciated that attention, he was sick of making his best friend worry over such a lost cause. It was a waste of time, and for some reason, as much as he tried to push the ravenette away, it never worked like it did with everyone else.
"Well, I do."
Kakashi could only sigh and run a hand through his hair, which was messed up to all hell- not that he cared much about his appearance in front of Guy at this point. He was only in a pair of loose shorts, his mask not even on, though Guy had seen him in lesser states of dress over the years; when they were curious teens who'd compared each other's bodies despite how ridiculous it was, that time Guy had been forced to stitch Kakashi's split lip with a sewing needle and thread because they were on a mission and no medical ninjas were around and Kakashi wouldn't let anyone else see his face, or that other time when Guy had somehow managed to get his ass cheek sliced by a Stone ninja's sword on a mission and Kakashi was the only one he'd let change his bandages and apply ointment when the huge gash was healing.
At this point, they didn't have much shame around each other when it came to physical things.
"Whatever."
There was a pause, and finally, Kakashi met his rival's gaze. The taller man was forcing a smile, clearly trying to be reassuring and calm like he always was despite the fact that he clearly didn't know how to deal with this properly. It was funny- even if he wasn't forcing that smile until his face twitched with the effort it took to keep it up, and even if he wasn't looking at Kakashi in a way that was almost loving, he would still manage to be just as reassuring as he always was. His presence was enough.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're tired of me, rival!"
"I'm always tired, Guy," Kakashi laughed, the noise almost bitter but wistful in its own way. He didn't miss the light red hue that took over the other Jonin's cheeks, but he didn't question it, either. "But never of you."
"You do look tired," Guy reached out in an oddly intimate gesture, pushing Kakashi's hair out of his face and smoothing it back the best he could. Kakashi, of course, leaned into the touch. He couldn't remember the last time someone had touched his hair for sure- maybe that time Obito had tried to yank some of it out in response to one of Kakashi's sarcastic jabs, or that time Rin had tried to braid it to no avail because of how messy it was. Thinking about it made him want to cry, but he didn't, only biting his lip and allowing his eyes to fall shut as Guy's hand rested on his shoulder in a soothing manner. "You know I love you, right?"
Hearing what his rival had just said, the moment it registered, his eyes snapped open again.
Within a few seconds of that, Kakashi felt everything crash down on him. Guy loved him? How was that meant to be taken? Was it romantically in the way he'd secretly wanted for so long, or was it just in that friendly way he loved everyone else in? If it was the latter, how come he hadn't said it until this point? They'd been friends for a good fifteen years now. If it was meant in a friendly way, wouldn't he have said it earlier?
"...As in?" Kakashi asked for clarification, tilting his head and pulling the blankets that he had draped over his shoulders even closer to himself in some attempt at self-comfort.
He was nervous and he really didn't want to be, but he couldn't help how his heart was beating so fast that he was sure the other man must've been able to hear it.
"I'm in love with you, Kakashi! I always have been."
"Oh, shit," He muttered, almost unable to believe it.
Guy was being serious, right? Did he know what those words meant to Kakashi? Did he know about the one-sided pining that Kakashi had thought he'd been doing for so long? "You're not joking or something right now, are you?"
"What? Of course not!" He exclaimed, almost as if he was offended by Kakashi thinking about the possibility of his sudden confession being some sort of sick joke. "Why do you look so surprised? Should- Should I leave? I'm sorry if that was too much-"
Guy went to stand up, but Kakashi tossed the blankets off of himself and grabbed the older man by the arm, pulling him back down where he'd been sitting just seconds before and silently shaking his head.
"Don't leave, I just... I am surprised. I thought you didn't want me," Kakashi admitted, voice uncharacteristically quiet; shaky.
In front of everyone else, he would've kept up that calm and confident facade, but this was Guy and he was already vulnerable enough to not care as much as he usually would. Guy loved him. He could be at least somewhat honest about everything. "I thought you'd never want me."
"What?"
"Who would willingly make themselves deal with this?" Kakashi laughed and offered a half-hearted smile, awkwardly gesturing to himself with his hand. "You, apparently... I guess you always have," He muttered, knowing that it was true. Guy had always been there for him, whether it was to start one of those stupid challenges that made him remember that someone did look forward to seeing him most days, or to scold him for scrubbing his arms raw of the blood that wasn't there anymore, or to keep him from drinking himself into oblivion. "But I didn't think it was like that."
"It's a privilege to deal with you."
"Of course you'd say that."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Guy questioned, withdrawing his hand from Kakashi's shoulder so he could cross his arms.
"You've always cared too much," Kakashi reminded the older man, shaking his head.
Guy only smiled in that way he always did when he felt challenged, holding a finger up as he started to speak again.
"It makes up for-!"
"The fact that I don't care enough about myself, I know," Kakashi cut his best friend off, dismissively waving his hand before picking up one of the blankets that he'd thrown off of himself and balling it up so he could hug it close to his chest; a nervous habit of his. This conversation was making him nervous, and he wasn't sure of whether he should be relieved or more worried than he was before about Guy's feelings towards him. "That's why you've always cared so much."
"No, it's not," Guy scoffed, but then gave an apologetic look and ran a hand through his silky black locks and let out a small huff. "I mean, sure, the way you act worries me a lot! But whether you're like this or on the top of the world, I'll always care about you just as much as I do now- as much as I always have!"
"For the record," Kakashi started, sighing. "I love you- I'm in love with you, too. Always have been... Always will be."
"I can't believe you thought I wouldn't want you-"
Not wanting to address that part of things, Kakashi grabbed his best friend's arm again and buried his face into the man's shoulder. He smelled like the cologne that Kakashi had always claimed to hate despite loving in secret, citrus, and something else that just screamed home. Kakashi would bathe himself in that if he could.
"Stay," The silver-haired man spoke one word, and it was a bit muffled by the cloth of the green jumpsuit that he had practically shoved his face into.
"Huh?" Guy hummed, seemingly unsure of whether or not he'd heard that correctly.
"Stay the night," Kakashi reiterated, moving to hold one of Guy's hands, gently squeezing it and taking a deep breath in. "Please."
Guy offered a nod in response, ditching his shoes and jumpsuit so he was only in his boxers as well before he crawled into the bed. Kakashi laid down next to his rival, watching as the ravenette grabbed the large comforter and pulled it over them. Without much warning, Guy was wrapping his arms around the younger man's lithe body, cuddling up next to him in a way that had his cheeks burning red at the sudden contact.
Kakashi wasn't sure if Guy was burning hot or if he was just ice cold, but the sudden skin to skin contact had him melting at the warmth of the older man, whose legs were entangled with his and whose arms were around his waist.
"You always this cold?" Guy questioned, one of his hands moving to gently run up and down Kakashi's bare back, sending tingles of heat through the pale skin that made him want more of that same feeling.
"Usually."
"Kakashi," Guy started again, the hand that had been on Kakashi's back now trailing up to run through the ends of the Anbu's silvery hair; comforting.
For the first time in what must've been years, Kakashi relaxed and allowed himself to breathe as he looked up at the man he loved, who was only smiling down at him in that loving way he almost always did.
"Hm?"
"You're always going to be wanted."

“This is stupid,” Naruto muttered under his breath, carrying two paper bags in each of his hands. He let out an annoyed whine, “I don’t see why we got this mission and not some other team. We’re shinobi! This is embarrassing! Kakashi sensei isn’t here. She’s really comfortable around us for her just know meeting us. It was like she already knew everything about us!” The blonde grumbled on until he heard a ‘tch’ to the side of him.
He looked to his left to his rival and sworn enemy. Sasuke had one of his hands shoved in his pocket and an arm wrapped around a few bags of groceries. He leaned against a tree, looking out at the market before him, “Stop acting like it’s the end of the world. It’s just a D rank mission. It would have been over earlier if you didn’t drop the eggs and smashed the bread.”
“I SAID I WAS SORRY, OKAY?!” The boy exclaimed.
“NARUTO!”
The blonde snapped his attention to the front, seeing a pink-haired girl with a scary look her in green eyes. Naruto quickly straightened out, putting a forced smile on his face.
Sakura rolled her eyes. Her hands were a few even more bags stuffed with groceries.
Behind her was a heavily pregnant woman, carrying only a single bag, probably the least heavy out of all of the bags.
At the discretion of Tsunade, Team 7 was assigned to the mission without their sensei, as he was busy with a mission of his own for the day. Of course, the only reason Tsunade had believed that they could at all be successful on this mission was because of Sakura.
The mission was simple, even a civilian could do it. But it was proving to be extremely difficult for the two rivals. Proven by the dropped eggs, smashed bread, and the two being sent out of the market because of them arguing and to wait outside until the woman had finished all of her shopping.
The woman let out a small giggle, “Don’t worry about it, Sakura. I completely understand Naruto’s frustration and embarrassment. After all this mission, though the lowest rank, it takes quite a bit of dignity. My husband usually accompanies me. But I truly appreciate you for accompanying me to the market today, Naruto.”
She ruffled his hair gently, making the blonde blush profusely. He let out a nervous laugh, “Don’t...don’t worry about it ( y/n )-san. It’s...it’s no big deal. Helping pregnant women with whatever they need is a shinobi’s job!”
“But you just said―” Sakura began, making Naruto shush her, the bags slipping out of his sweaty grip, making Sakura gasp.
The woman held out a hand, a small cloud forming just under the paper bag, stopping it from falling. She let out a relieved sigh as the cloud had slowly floated bag back into Naruto’s hand gently. “I don’t have much money with me, Naruto. Please don’t drop another bag.”
He along with his teammates’ jaws dropped.
“( y/n )-san...you...”
“Come on shinobi, let’s get home so I can put all of these items away.” She walked in front of them. The three genins looked between one another before back to ( y/n ), catching a glimpse of the clan symbol on the back of her shirt. The symbol was a black diamond with four lines in it, intersecting one another, forming nine smaller diamonds.
‘That looks...familiar.’ Sakura thought to herself.
The woman looked over her shoulder, “Are you all coming?”
“( y/n )-san...YOU GOT TO TELL ME HOW YOU MADE THAT CLOUD!” Naruto screamed, jogging to catch up to her, being careful not to drop the bags again. The two others followed behind the woman and blonde.
“Well, it’s not really a learned ability. It was passed down to me. It’s the ability of my clan. It’s called Cloud Release. It gives me the ability to make clouds at will around items, if I try hard enough I could do make one around myself.”
She was ( y/n ) of the ( l/n ) clan. A former kunoichi who was forced into early retirement after she was severely injured in the first mission she had after becoming a jonin.
Her retirement had devastated her. She had trained to be a jonin since she was a child and now it was taken away from her faster than she earned it. While she recovered, she had met her husband and the rest was history.
“You can make a cloud around yourself and you’re not doing it right now? If I could do it I would always be on a cloud! That sounds fun,” Sakura pointed out.
The woman hummed, “If I could I would. But I’m a retired kunoichi and my chakra is no longer what it used to be. And I don’t think it’s safe for me to float in a cloud while eight months along into my pregnancy.”
“Can you make other people float?!” Naruto questioned, his blue puppy eyes looking into her ( e/c ) ones. ( y/n ) nodded, turning to Sasuke, touching the tip of his nose.
The brooding boy wrinkled his nose, stepping back a bit. He felt a slight gush of wind under the bottoms of his feet. He quickly looked down, seeing a small cloud forming, “What the...?!”
“Relax Sasuke or you’ll fall and I don’t know if I’ll have enough chakra to stop you from falling,” She pointed out. Reluctantly, the boy did as she said, relaxing and balancing himself as the cloud had become more solid under his feet.
Naruto muttered insults under his breath, wanting to be the one who was standing on top of the cloud. He was the one who asked, why did Sasuke get to do it and not him. ( y/n ) noticed the jealousy expression on Naruto’s face, which made her giggle, “How about when we reach my home and you help me put away the groceries...I’ll let you float even higher than Sasuke?”
“DEAL! LET’S GO!” The blonde dashed in front of the group, angering Sakura who now stood next to ( y/n ).
“Who is going to tell him that we don’t know where ( y/n )-san lives yet?” Sasuke questioned, making Sakura facepalm. “Just wait, he’ll figure it out.”
The blonde stopped now that he was almost eight or so meters away from them, barely being able to see them now. It finally hit him. He put down the groceries in his right hand, cupping half of his mouth to project his voice, “Uhhh! ( y/n )-san!”
“Yes, Naruto?!”
“Ummm...where do you live?!”
“There it is.”
( y/n ) had made small talk with the genin team, getting to know a bit about each other, Sasuke being a bit of a hard one to crack but she had understood and continued to tease him a bit to somewhat try to make him comfortable. Sakura seemed to be very curious about her and her background, asking many questions and complimenting her like a good friend. Naruto on the other hand was just acting like himself.
“So ( y/n )-san, who is the lucky guy?” Sakura questioned. A light blush appeared on the woman’s face, making Sakura gush, “Aw! You’re so in love! It’s so cute! I want a love like that!” Her light green eyes looked to Sasuke, who was too busy looking down at the cloud under his feet, trying to see how it truly worked.
( y/n ) smiled, “My husband and I met after I retired from being a kunoichi. We met purely by accident. He was visiting a friend and he saw me. I was messed up pretty bad and I was still regaining all the feeling in my body. We made eye contact and stared at one another for a bit before he left. I don’t know what it is but when it left I felt...sad. But he returned the next day to visit his friend but before he went to see his friend, he gave me a really pretty flower...I guess as a get well soon gift.”
“What happened after he gave you the flower?” Naruto asked.
“I found out his friend had gotten out of the hospital, meaning there was no reason for him to come to visit me as he didn’t even know me. For a week, he didn’t come in. I was beginning to give up. And just when I felt the lowest, there he was, standing in front of me with a bouquet the same type of flower he gave me. Instead of just letting him walk away again, I spoke up and thanked him. The rest was history. We fell in love and married a few years after. And now, we have this little one on the way,” She shared with them with a loving look on her face.
She continued on, “And I don’t know where I would be without him. He’s my better half. He’s so sweet, kind...and protective, which is why he asked Lady Tsunade that I be accompanied by a genin team so I didn’t hurt myself or the baby.”
“That’s so sweet~! Do you think he is home now? I would like to meet him.” Sakura added.
“Well, you already―”
“( y/n )-san...did you buy something that supposed to leaking into the bag?” Naruto interrupted her, making the woman let out a sigh. “Let’s go back to the store...again.”
She had replaced the eggs...once more that the blonde had broken by accident because he doesn’t know how to not bounce while walking before finally leaving the market again. Finally, they had reached her small, cozy home. She smiled, “Home sweet home.”
The front door to the cozy home opened to reveal a familiar face.
A messy silver-haired man leaned against the frame of the door, folding his arms across his chest. He wore a dark blue tightly fitted long sleeve shirt with a mask connected to it, not revealing the lower half of his face. He also wore dark blue pants that had matched his shirt.
The three genins’ eyes widened, “K-K-KAKASHI SENSEI?!”
The man smiled, his eyes closing up a bit as he waved to his students, “I guess shopping with well. I was wondering when you would make it home, I got home a little while ago. I was starting to get worried.” He stood, walking over to his team, losing the smile on his face, returning to his emotionless one, “Everything did go well, didn’t it?”
“Uh...uhhhhh.”
“Kashi, leave them alone. They did fine. Look, I’m home in one piece, aren’t I?” ( y/n ) pointed out, taking one of her hands, bringing it to the side of his face to make him look at her. She could make out a small smile from under his mask, “We’re home safe.”
“The symbol on the back of your shirt...wait that means...KAKASHI SENSEI IS YOUR HUSBAND?!”
Naruto gasped dramatically, “KAKASHI SENSEI! YOU’RE MARRIED WITH A BABY ON THE WAY AND YOU DIDN’T TELL US?!”
“I wasn’t exactly hiding it and you never asked. Besides ( y/n ) is a bit secretive,” Kakashi explained, earning an eye roll from his wife. “I’m not secretive, you liar.”
The silver-haired man took the paper bag in his wife’s hold before grabbing her hand with his free one, intertwining them, “When Tsunade said she assigned a team to help you, I didn’t expect she’d choose these little rascals.”
“Your little rascals,” She corrected him, turning to the genin, “You guys can just bring the groceries inside and we’ll take it from―”
“No, no, no, no,” Naruto began, glaring between the two adults, “You both owe us answers!”
“Answers? What kind of answers?” Kakashi questioned, raising an eyebrow.
Sakura cleared her throat, “Only to name a few, when did the two of you met? When did the two of you fall in love? When did you get married? How long have you been married?”
“How come we’ve never met her before?”
“What kind of person is ( y/n )?”
“Is she the reason you’re always late?”
“Is she the path of life?”
The four looked to Sasuke, surprised he actually contributed.
“What’s the path of life?” ( y/n ) questioned.
“We don’t know either!”

Happy birthday, I love you 🧡🧡
I love YOU!!!
You’re amazing and friendly and so much fun to talk to and vent with 💜💜💜
Poke
Kakashi’s finger’s twitched but he refrained from doing anything as Suigetsu sat at his side persistently poking his cheek. He’d sworn to himself that he would be nice and civil when Sasuke brought his other team into Konoha for a relaxing day away from Orochimaru.
He just hadn’t realized how annoying they could be. Especially Suigetsu
“So this is the big bad Hatake Kakashi?” Another poke, this time a little harder. “I don’t see what’s so bad about him. Does Orochimaru really hate him that much?”
“It’s less about ‘hating him’ and more about finding him exceptionally annoying,” Sasuke explained as he handed his stick of Dango over to Jugo after having only eaten one ball. “Which, to be fair, he is.”
His patience was beginning to wear thin. Not inly was he forced to sit there being prodded by Kiri’s version of Naruto, but he was also being insulted by Sasuke at the same time. He was used to dealing with the second issue, but the two of then together was too much even for him.
“Mah, he’s just kind of there,” Suigetsu argued. “Even Orochimaru-sama is more interesting. They at least get annoyed with me.”
First poking
And then insults
And now direct comparison’s to the one person in the world that he hated with his entire being.
It was all too much. Kakashi had his limits and Suigetsu had stormed right past them without a single care in the world.
“Brace,” Sasuke warned, but it was too late. Before Suigetsu even had a chance to ask what he was talking about Lightning began to crackle through the air before striking its target.
A man made out if water who was able to withstand any physical attack, but who also served as the perfect conductor for Kaksshi’s lightning.
Suigetsu’s scream’s filled the air for exactly five seconds before dying out with the short burst of lightning Kakashi had focused into his cheek and blasted straight into Suigetsu when he poked his cheek once again.
When it was done, Suigetsu was left sitting there at Kakashi’s side looking like he’d been chucked head first into a thunder cloud.
“I told you,” Sasuke sighed. “Annoying.”

Skyfall - Kasari Hatake (Kakashi's Daughter)
(Prologue) Scroll 1 - The Girl with the Arrow-Shaped Marks
The smell of blood was strong in the air. A massacre occurred. She had heard rumors about Kakashi Hatake, but no way he could've done that. That slaughter. Her name was Sayuri Megami. She was the Hokage's guardian, it was her clan's duty to protect the Hokage.
She had found him in a pool of blood, hyperventilating. She easily knocked him out, so she wouldn't have to deal with him. All around her were butchered hidden mist shinobi and a girl with short brown hair, and purple marks on her face, who must've been Kakashi's teammate. The view gave her chills as she was thinking about how a boy her age could've done this. Yet again, Sayuri has done the same thing, since they were at war.
After her little thought session, she got back to her mission. Sayuri wrote a note on a small piece of paper and let out a whistle from her lips. A few seconds later a small blackbird came into view and landed on her forearm. She attached the note to the bird's leg and sent it off. This bird's job was to find a collector ninja to come and retrieve the girl's body, as mentioned in the note. Sayuri pulled the body to a safe location and covered it with a sheet. She used the cold blood from the ground to draw a symbol for the collector ninjas to know which body they are supposed to collect. Each village valued their dead and wished to have their fallen warriors in a grave so they can rest in peace.
Sayuri went back to the still unconscious boy and checked if he had any injuries that she could heal, but didn't find any. She lifts him up on her back so she can carry him back to the village. Before she began to hop back to the village, she quickly scanned her surroundings for chakra signatures that could possibly give her trouble. Sayuri did find some signatures, but they were too far away to give her any trouble. From this reassurance, she began to hop from tree to tree towards the Hidden Leaf.
The chill of the cold wind of the night was coating her skin as she hopped around, trying to dodge any chakra signatures. It had been quite a peaceful trip back to her hometown. She passed a wonderful waterfall she wished she could've stopped by. Went through a flower forest, which had an abundance of herbs she could've used. Pass a bright and lovely town that had a hot spring she was aching to use, but she must complete the mission first. Sayuri did see some cold unclaimed bodies in a river, which gave her a painful reminder of the current war claiming the hundreds of lives of shinobi and the innocent. Her thoughts put her in a gloomy mood as she remembered her mother had died in the previous great war, protecting the Third Hokage.
The shift of the forgotten weight on her back brought her out of her thoughts. Kakashi was waking up. "Great, we were almost at the village," Sayuri thought sarcastically. Kakashi began to panic as he didn't know where he was. He pushed himself off her back, thinking she was an enemy. Kakashi tumbled down to the forest floor, landing hard. The boy now had scratches all over his arms and face from the branches he hit. His foot broke his landing which was now hurt badly. Concerned, Sayuri quickly came to his side. Kakashi was terrified as a light started to come towards him. He took out a kunai to fend himself from the light, but he soon realized he was with a girl with a hidden leaf headband.
"Calm down, Kakashi. I'm not going to hurt you." Kakashi couldn't take his eyes off her. Not because of her beauty, but because of the glowing arrow-shaped marks under her eyes. He's never seen something like that and was wondering if it was some type of Jutsu.
"I guess we should make a camp here for the night, and we should head back to the village in the morning." She stood up and he scooted back from her. She just sighed from his action.
"I'm going to get firewood, don't move," she gave him a stern face and left.  As she was looking she made sure to sense his chakra to see if he tried to move. It's not like he could run from the injury he got from that fall.
It was quite dark and she couldn't see much from what little light the stars provided, but luckily the light from the marks on her face provide enough light for her to see.
She felt Kakashi try to stand up. "Kakashi! What did I tell you!" this scared him because he couldn't tell where her voice was coming from due to the echo of the forest. He just stayed put because he couldn't run.
She did manage to find some dry wood which was perfect to burn, now she started to head back to Kakashi. Kakashi was on alert once she was back. Sayuri began to dig a hole to put the firewood in. She collected some stones and put them around the hole. She used a simple fire-style Jutsu to bring her little creation to life. Once the warm glow from the fire came to life, Kakashi was finally able to see her features. The girl across him had pale skin, shimmering black hair, and those damn glowing marks on her face. But what really captured him was her wine-colored eyes that seemed to have some type of history and fury behind them. She caught him staring at him and Sayuri just stared back looking at his features as well. His grey gravity-defying hair, charcoal-black eye, the scar on his Sharingan eye, and peach white skin.
A squeak from the trees broke their trance. There was a squirrel, so Sayuri took this opportunity to take out a kunai and throw it at the poor creature. It landed right on its heart. Sayuri climbed the rough tree bark to get it. Once she was back with Kakashi, she set it down and headed towards the boy. She forcibly took his foot and began healing it. Kakashi just watched the glowing chakra from her hands, which made him forget what he saw earlier.
"Who are you and why am I here?" she looked at him, debating whether to answer his question. The Hokage told her not to tell anyone about herself for her own protection, but she knew Kakashi wouldn't leave her alone if she didn't tell him anything.
"My name is Sayuri Megami. I work directly for the Hokage. I was sent on a mission to retrieve you and take you back to the village." she responded. Silence fell over them. He still had so many questions but didn't know in what order to ask them.
"What happened earlier with the mist shinobi?" Sayuri asked, but he turned away from her, not wanting to respond. She understood and stood up since she was done healing him. She walked back to the dead squirrel. She took out a kunai and began to skin it. "Where's Rin?" Kakashi spoke up. "A collector ninja should have her body by now." A collector ninja, that must mean she really is dead, Kakashi thought. Kakashi then wrapped his arms around his legs and placed his chin on his knees. Sayuri noticed the heartbreaking look that fell over him.
"You know she used to be my friend." He looked over at her from her sudden outburst. "We have all lost people we care about. Those of us who are still alive need to fight for freedom for future generations to enjoy. For now, we just need to keep on fighting." Kakashi appreciated her passion for peace.
"Why haven't I seen you around the village?" Kakashi asked. Surely with those glowing marks on her face, he would've remembered her from somewhere. Especially since she's a kunoichi.
"Like I said I work directly with the Hokage, meaning I always have to be with him to protect him. So I have to live in the Hokage mansion. And since the Hokage's mansion has everything I need, I don't go out much. Plus, the Hokage is always sending me out on missions, so it's not like I have the time." Kakashi simply hummed to her response and shot her with another question.
"Who are the Megami?" She froze from skinning the squirrel. She didn't know how to respond. She knew that she wasn't originally from the Megami clan. She was born into a different clan, like her mother. But her mother left said clan shortly before she died, so their last name was changed to her grandmother's clan name, Megami. The signature mark of the Megami Clan was the arrow-shaped mark underneath the eyes. Another problem is that she's the one left from her clan and she knew that Kakashi was the last one from the Hatake clan. The last thing she wanted was to form some kind of connection with him. She also didn't know much about her clan, since she was forced to change her name not that long ago. She only knew some aspects of the clan and herself from the Hokage. She was so lost in thought, she simply said the first thing that came out.
"I don't know really . . . I'm the only one left." She mentality scolded herself for doing what she told herself not to do. She wanted to change the topic. "Why'd you ask?" she said.
"Well, every village has its own clans and they are well known to everyone in their village. But I've never heard of the Megami, so I was just curious, that's all." Kakashi said.
"Well don't expect to hear about them very often. The Hokage makes sure my existence is a secret, so you better keep your mouth shut, Hatake." Kakashi just muttered a fine and looked away from her, not wanting to talk anymore. She was done skinning the creature and was now on a stick over the fire.
Truthfully, she never had many friends because of who she was. Sayuri only knew of Rin because of her few weeks at the academy. Once she graduated, which was much earlier than Rin, she was only allowed to hang out with Rin if there were ANBU watching her, because of her mother's and the Hokage's orders. After a while, she stopped being with Rin because she felt so uncomfortable with the ANBU watching her like a hawk. She hoped Rin still remembered her, but she doubted it. A depressed feeling came over her thinking about how she lost one of the only friends she ever had. She glanced over at Kakashi for a second, knowing how he must be feeling right at the moment. He lost everyone in his team, Rin and Obito. And by the way, Rin and Kakashi were positioned when Sayuri found them, Kakashi was possibly the one who killed Rin. Being the Hokage's guardian requires her to know a lot of information about the high-ranking shinobi in the village, meaning she knows Kakashi's life and struggles. Maybe being friends with him might be a good thing for both of them.
The smell of roasted squirrel brought her out of her thoughts, so she quickly grabbed it before it burned. Once it cooled down, she took two legs of the squirrel and ripped it half through the center. She handed one half to Kakashi and he took it.
"You know we have food packs," Kakashi said questioning why she killed and roasted a squirrel.
"Do you really want to eat those disgusting dry food packs over roasted meat?" He stayed quiet. "That's what I thought."
After a while of eating in silence, Sayuri asked the boy if he wanted to go to the village after they were done eating or in the morning.
"Well if we wait and leave the fire burning all night, someone might find us, so let's go now," he responded.
"Are you sure? Are you able to run?" Kakashi stood up and walked around, testing out his foot. He confirmed he'd be able to run back to the village.
"Alright let's put out this fire and get going." With that, they got rid of their tracks and began to make their way back to Konoha.

Big Girls Cry || KakaSaku
[Based on a prompt: shuffle your music, pick a random line in the song and start your fic with it.]
“I wake up.”
Hotaru-sensei gazed passively at Sakura, her gaze neither dissecting nor empathetic. The elegant arch of her wrist rested delicately on her note pad, her pen poised ready.
“I wake up,” Sakura repeated, though her words have not gained any conviction. She merely sounded defeated.
“What do you do when you wake up?”
Sakura seemed to ponder this for a moment. “I ... cry. Sometimes. Or I roll right back to sleep.” She bit her lip. “Look ... I know what you’re going to say. That this is just my depression, or my way to escape my trauma or whatever. But I don’t see how this is going to help.”
“Haruno-sensei,” Hotaru-sensei leveled her with a flat look. “When a patient of yours clearly needs a wheelchair, not because he is not capable of walking, but because walking will most definitely worsen his injury, and he refuses the wheelchair, maybe because he has the outlook that needing a wheelchair is a sign of weakness and he’s clearly anything but ... tell me, what would you do?”
The faintest flickers of a smile, a ghost upon Sakura’s lips as she recalled numerous similar incidents: “I’d make him use it anyway.”
Hotaru-sensei nodded. “So then let’s apply the same principle here. You are from your own perspective dealing with this on your own, feeling that eventually, with time, you will move on. And that talking about what you’ve been through is a sign of weakness, while in fact, talking, and coming to terms with what happened and how you feel about it is what will truly help you move on. What will I do in this case?”
Sakura sighed. “Make me talk anyway?”
Hotaru-sensei smiled. “Correctly observed, Haruno-sensei. Now, tell me what you’ve had for breakfast.”
Sakura faltered a moment, shaking her head at the abrupt subject change. “Um. An apple.”
“Just an apple?”
“I had tea as well.”
“How would you describe the breakfasts you used to have when Hatake-san was around?”
Sakura’s lip quivered some. She swallowed thickly as she said: “U-um... we would have miso soup. That’s—was—his favorite. Steamed rice. Tsukemono. Kobachi. Traditional stuff really.”
“What else does he like?”
“Kakashi? Um. He liked dogs. Books. Gardening. He had a lot of hobbies. He talked to his plants.” Sakura laughed hoarsely.
“Mhm. Would you describe him as eccentric then?”
“No. Maybe. I loved that he was a little strange. He always had the most random facts on the tip of his tongue. Did you know a human can swim through a blue whale’s veins?”
Hotaru-sensei sighed softly. Put her pen down. “Why had, Sakura-san. Why was.”
Sakura took a quivering breath. “Because he’s not here anymore.”
“But he is,” Hotaru-sensei stressed. “He’s not dead.”
“He’s in a coma.” Sakura sat back, glaring at Hotaru. “A vegetable.”
“You said it yourself that there is a chance he could wake up.” Hotaru-sensei reasoned. “Is that not true?”
“I said the chances of him waking up are slim.” Sakura hugged her body. Her complexion was ashen and paling under Hotaru’s placating stare. “I can’t even take him off life support because the council threatened to charge me with murder.”
Tears come suddenly. They stream down her face silently. “This isn’t what he would’ve wanted,” she shook her head, a soft sob echoing from her.
“Perhaps... What do you want?”
“I want him back,” she said, voice pleading. “I want him back so bad I’m ready to crush the moon, or collect the stars or bottle the sea. I’d do anything—anything—to have him back.”
Hotaru sighed softly. “You know that’s not how it works Haruno-san.”
“I know,” she said numbly. “I know more than most.”
“How does that make you feel?”
“Like I’ll never be whole again,” Sakura buried her face in her hands, took a trembling, strained breath. “Like my lungs will strangle themselves and kill me.”
Hotaru put her pen down. “Alright I think that’s enough for today.”
Sakura nodded.
“Before you go, I want us to work through the breathing exercise together, alright?”
Sakura nodded again, taking a shaky inhale.
“Take a deep breath ... one, two, three, four, five ... exhale ... one, two, three, four, five...”
Her mind drifted, even whilst her body sunk into the rhythm of a breath after a breath after a breath.
Did you know that lungs can float on water? The memory came unbidden.
Sakura didn’t know; couldn’t have imagined since she felt like she was drowning all the time.
Yeah, it’s the only organ that can do that. Pretty sick, huh?
The memory didn’t matter then. It hardly mattered now when her lungs were made of lead. What she remembered most was his mouth; the pucker of his lips, the upward curve of a smile, the sharp canine grazing flesh. She hadn’t been paying attention; at least not enough to remember what he said next although she had a vague sense that it was important. Sakura had been too taken by the urge to kiss him.
You’re the strangest man I know.
I know. And you’re the most wonderful person I know.
The breath caught in her throat
Vicious hotness pooled behind her eyes but Sakura forced it down, and took another one, and another.
What do you think happens in the afterlife?
I’m not sure I believe in it. A bunch of dogs I’d hope. Maybe books would grow on trees, that’d be nice. A river of miso? Man now that would be sick.
A smile, so painful, but so helpless, touched her mouth.
That’s all it’d take to make you happy?
Well, yes. And you. Most of all, you. But that’s a given.
Her breath quivered again. Maybe she was never meant to breathe easily again.
“Good work, Haruno-san. Well, you know the drill, I’ll see you on Thursday.”
Sakura bid her goodbye and made her way to Kakashi’s hospital room, to where she spent her days and nights lately.
She walked in hoping against hope that his eyes would be open, just like she always did after a grueling session with Hotaru-sensei.
And just as always, they weren’t.
Sakura’s back touched the wall, defeated yet again, but her legs didn’t give like she feared. From her perch on a dull wall, suffocating on clinical scents that ate her Kakashi away day by day, she watched his chest rise and fall with each breath the machines forced into his lungs.
“I hope you’re breathing for the both of us,” she told him, voice rough.
Maybe in the end, she was more angry than hurt. That he’d dare go first. That he’d dare chain himself to a bed in the place he hated. That he went and hurt himself so badly even she couldn’t save him.
“I hope you can hear this,” she went on. “I want you to know this is the dumbest thing you’ve ever done.”
His chest rose and fell again, hypnotising, its own kind of sick addiction. His face, even deadly pale, still held an ethereal sort of refinement, like he was more angel than human.
“And you’re an asshole.”
“And I hate you.”
“Almost as much as I fucking love you, which is a lot. Which is more than I can bare. So I hope you find the good grace in your heart, or a shred of sympathy in it for me, and open your eyes.”
The steady heart rate on the monitor remained unchanged. Her eyes swam until she could no longer map the cresting lines of what powered the things she loved most in the world.
“I see,” she said after a moment, strangled. “Well then, you know the drill. I’ll be back tomorrow.”
And when he didn’t open his eyes, Sakura forced her lips around a whisper. “Good night, Kakashi.”
Fascinating how basic functions like movement, the things she depended on, on day to day basis to stay alive, could fail her so suddenly. Her legs refused to move. And why should they when what they sought was home, but home was no longer there.
She watched him a moment longer, until her lungs burned so much she doubted she could move at all.
Did you know ... that falling asleep next to you makes me the happiest?
Movement. Perhaps his calling from another life; his soul reaching out for her for one final request. Sakura’s feet carry her over to his prone body without thought, into the nook by his side, into the only place she felt whole. She curls into him and cries, and cries and cries.
I think I prefer waking up next to you. You do have the most ridiculous bed hair.

Word Count:  5,341 (1/1)
Summary:  The first time Iruka meets Hatake Kakashi he is decidedly not awestruck.
Comments:  KakaIru. Fuuinjutsu Master Iruka. First meeting. Strangers to Lovers. Iruka being amazing and Kakashi realizing it and then lots of fluff.

Making Amends by Jubokko, LazarusII
Word Count:  31,381 (5/5)
Summary:  It had been months since Kakashi and Iruka last spoke to one another for anything other than business—and over two years since their mutual breakup. Terrible, painful, lonely years filled with nothing but shitloads of paperwork and enough politics to make Kakashi want to gag.
But his days in office were numbered. That, he could deal with. Iruka, on the other hand…
Comments:  KakaIru. Hokage!Kakashi, ANBU!Kakashi, BAMF!Kakashi, BAMF!Iruka. Undercover Kakashi, lots of action and fight scenes, and lots of missing-nin. A part of the Umino Undercover collection on Ao3, which is full of really good Iruka-centric fics

Taking A Break by ohmygoshwhatascream
Word Count:  47,699 (8/8)
Summary:  With Naruto gone, Iruka finds himself left with nothing but loose ends. Lonely, but not quite willing to admit it, life goes on. He takes more shifts at the mission desk, avoids his friends and tries to convince himself that the shadows in his apartment are not growing larger and larger with each passing day.
It doesn't help that Hatake Kakashi, a man who Iruka tries to avoid at all costs, is suddenly lingering in each and every corner of his life.
No matter what he tells himself, there's something about Kakashi that makes it impossible to stay away. The remnants of an age-old crush that never quite faded offer the promise of something he'd promised to forget and, even when it burns, Iruka finds himself captivated.
His back bears the cruel memory of weakness and he knows that this can't last.
Comments:  KakaIru. ANGST OH MY GOD. Dadruka. Basically slowburn where Iruka is struggling to get over what Mizuki did to him (they had been together) and trusting someone else after that kind of thing is hard.

Word Count:  10,845 (7/7)
Summary:  Kakashi and Iruka go on an undercover mission as civilian diplomats. They would be okay with it, if only they didn't have to pretend they're married too. Kakashi Hatake 18+ Part 1
WARNING 18 and up. Kakashi x Fem!reader
Part 1 of 2
Kakashi Hatake had known Y/N since they were kids. She was always the quiet girl. Instead of being a ninja though she became the owner of a bookstore. He visited her often. Every time he went to the store it was when she was there. Sometimes she would be off doing errands and he would just come back when she was there. Usually it was followed with excuses of why he waited until she was there. He didn’t like to admit he was helplessly in love with Y/N.
Standing in line, Kakashi was looking at Y/N as she talked to a customer about a book they were purchasing. Her smile was radiant as he got closer. Sending the customer away, her eyes scanned the crowd and landed on the next person in line: him. It was like the sun was reflecting off of her she was so bright as she saw Kakashi.
“Hey! I haven’t seen you in so long,” Her voice was butter in his ears.
He shifted uncomfortably as thoughts entered his head, “Yeah, I just got back from a mission with the three kids I’ve told you about.”
“Oh,” She ushered him forward, “How’d it go? Smooth I hope,”
He chuckled, putting his book in front of her, “When do they ever go smoothly?”
She shrugged with a giggle, “I see you’re reading the trilogy I recommended, how’d you like the first one?”
“It was a little... slow. But it had a nice build up to the steamier parts,” He said lowly.
Her smile was genuine and bright as she gave him the book once it was paid for, “I’m about to go on my lunch break, do you want to join me? It would be nice to catch up.”
He smiled at her. With his mask it only showed through his eyes but he nodded his head. Her soft, doe eyes looked through the crowd and grabbed the attention of a male worker. She told him to take over the counter and she bounced happily to Kakashi as he waited for her by the door. Kakashi couldn’t help but let his eyes go to her modestly covered boobs. She wore long sleeve turtle neck but her breasts were large enough to still be something to look at.
“I missed you,” Y/N confessed as they walked down the road.
He grinned, “You say there every time.”
“And you come and see me every time you come back,”
“Only because you have the best novel recommendations,” He teased.
“I have the best novel recommendations because I like the steamiest of things,” She admitted with a slick grin.
She knew the game she was playing. Kakashi knew that. Y/N was a game of cat and mouse that he had wanted to play before. The only thing that had stopped him before was his own thoughts. Now, he was ready to throw those concerns away. After lusting after someone for so long some things are worth the risk.
They sat down at the bar of a ramen place. Kakashi had put his new book in his pants pocket as Y/N ordered what she wanted. Her long hair was pulled back and her eyes were full of joy as she looked at Kakashi beside her. He was leaning his head on his hand, watching her silently. Her eyebrow raised as the two of them made eye contact.
“Like what you see?” She giggled half playfully.
“I do, actually,” He almost growled out.
Her skin began to blush, creeping to her face and taking over her. The ramen was given to her and she ate it quickly. Kakashi didn’t order anything but he sat with her and they talked. It didn’t take long for her to finish. Once she was done Kakashi paid for her meal, despite her protests, and the two walked back towards the bookshop together.
“I want to see you again,” Kakashi said as they approached the shop, “Tonight.”
Y/N stopped in her tracks. Looking at the man in front of her, she couldn’t help but let her mind wander as the words left his mouth. Taking a deep breath she continued towards the shop. Kakashi couldn’t help but chuckle at her change of demeanor. He was getting under her skin.
“Well, you know where I live, why don’t you come over?” She challenged as they approached the door to the shop.
He grinned, “I will. See you soon Y/N,”
She grinned, “Have fun with that novel while you’re waiting. Page 102 is my favorite part.”
Kakashi watched her walk inside. He finished all his duties for the day so all there was left to do was wait. So he did just that. He sat on a bench not far from her home and opened the book he bought. It didn’t take him long to get to page 102. The sun was beginning to set when he stood up, knowing she would be home by now.
“Did you get to page 102?” Y/N asked as she answered the door.
He grinned as his voice became dark, “I prefer 207 myself.”
“Oh?” Her eyes were wide, “And why is that?”
“mmm, do you really want to know?”
She smiled, opening the door wider, “Please, tell me.”
Walking inside, she left the door open. Following her, Kakashi made sure to take of his shoes before shutting the door behind him. She had changed into a more casual, comfortable attire. Kakashi wore what he always wore. There was a tension in the air, a frustration Kakashi felt as he watched her walk in her kitchen.
“So, what is it about page 207? Let me guess; it is either the part where she is laying under him, trembling as his fingers touched her or it is when she takes control and climbs on top of him.”
Kakashi’s blush was hidden by his mask but he kept his composure well, “You got it right the first time. But I bet I can guess why you love 102 the best.”
She smiled innocently, leaning against her table, “Oh?”
He approached her slowly. The both of them were playing with one another. He put both his hands on the kitchen table, trapping her between him. Their faces were inches apart as he looked down at the shorter woman. Kakashi’s breath was even, although his thoughts were racing. All he wanted to do was touch Y/N.
“I think you like it because he grabs her and pins her to the wall. How he grabbed her by her pretty little throat and made her beg,”
“And why do you think that’s my favorite part?” Her voice was meek as she looked up at Kakashi.
He grinned before leaning down. His mouth stopped beside her ear as he whispered, “Because you want me to do just that to you.”
Her breath stopped in her throat. Kakashi slowly took off his mask as he leaned away from Y/N. She smiled seeing his face again. The last time she saw it they were kids. Kakashi was looking into her eyes with a hunger. Y/N returned the hungry gaze.
“I do,” She finally said with a sigh, “I really want you to.”
Kakashi didn’t need anything else. He took her lips as his in an instant. She reacted to his lips instantly, letting an arm grab on to his waist, pulling him closer to her. The build up that Kakashi had been dealing with since he was fifteen was finally being released. Grabbing her, he pulled her into him and forced her legs to wrap around him. Her fingers crawled up his back, one resting on the back of his neck, sending shivers through his body.
He couldn’t help but let out a frustrated groan when she pulled his hair softly. His mouth left a trail down the her turtle neck. She was eager as she tore it off of her, making Kakashi grin. Tugging her off the table, he carried her to the living room a few feet away and almost tossed her on the couch. Taking off his own shirt he slowly crawled on top of her. It was a lion looking at its prey.
“I’ve been wanting this for so long,” He growled out, leaning down and kissing down her neck, “I’ve been wanting you for so long.”
His hands clawed at every inch of her skin. Shivers ran through her body. A deep chuckle rumbled through Kakashi as he slowly let his hand settle on her skirt. They made eye contact. It was a silent question of permission. He wasn’t going to move until she gave him permission. She grinned and nodded her head slowly.
Pulling off the rest of her clothing Kakashi let out a frustrated sigh seeing her body. It was perfect. She was perfect. His eyes widened when her own hand grabbed at his pants. With ease she unbuttoned his pants. He slid them off of him, leaving only their underwear on.
His fingers slid across her bare skin, outlining her underwear. She moved closer to him, groaning as he removed his hand. Looking up at him, she couldn’t help but stare at him. Her eyes were hazy and hungry. Kakashi looked at her with the same hunger as he moved down to kiss her.
His tongue grazed her bottom lip, asking for entrance. She didn’t hesitate as she opened her mouth. There was no fight for dominance for she knew Kakashi would win every time. His fingers clutched her hips, bringing them towards him. Ripping off her underwear, Kakashi let out a growl as she began to slid his off as well.
Kakashi pinned her to the couch as his length was put at her entrance. His breathing was heavy as he placed kisses along her neck and breasts. She whined as he teased her. Then without a warning he slid a finger inside. She yelped from the sudden movement but soon moaned as he quickened his pace.
“I’m going to make those books look like childs play,” Kakashi smirked down at Y/N.

No Better Place To Be
Tumblr media
Hatake Kakashi/Maito Gai
1154 Words
Sunlight shone through the tiny window in their apartment, directly onto the bed where Kakashi and Gai laid, still tangled in each others arms after last night activities.
From where he lay, awake and focused completely on Gai, Kakashi could see the way that the sunlight highlighted Gai’s body perfectly. Accentuating the various scars that were scattered across his body.
Some of them were older scars. Scars that he had gotten from pushing his body too hard during his training exercises, or from some of the more dangerous missions he had to go on.
The one’s that caught his eye in the light, though, were the newer one’s. Deep scars created from Gai’s chakra burning into his skin. Symbols burned forever into Gai’s skin that tell the story of what should have happened. How Gai’s life should have ended that day when he opened the eighth gate.
Tracing a finger over a long, deep scar on Gai’s arm, he thought back to that moment. How Gai’s chakra had burst into an angry red flame that surrounded his body, determined to burn him to ash.
That was the day that he had thought he’d lost Gai. That the universe had finally decided to deal him one last devastating blow before his own death.
Going into that final battle against Kaguya, he was certain he would die and he had found it easy to come to terms with that. As long as he didn’t have to go back to a world without Gai or Tenzo, he was happy. He could find peace in death if it meant seeing the people he loved again.
For some reason, Obito had decided to interfere with his plans to die that day, allowing Kakashi to see his team defeat Kaguya and come back together once again.
It also allowed him the moment of calm that they all needed for Naruto to tell him that Gai was alive, and before he knew what he was doing he was off. Determined to find Gai and confirm that Naruto was tell him the truth.
That Gai was alive, even after opening the eighth gate.
“You stopped,” dragging his eyes away from the scar he had been focusing on, Kakashi smiled when he saw beautiful black eyes staring back at him. “So, tell me Kakashi, what is it you’re thinking about that made you stop?”
“Maa, it’s nothing really,” bringing his hand up, he cupped Gai’s face and gently brushed his thumb along an older scar just under his left eye. “Just thinking about how lucky I am to be here with you.”
Gai’s boisterous laughter rings in his ears, and for a moment he’s sure he actually died out in that battle. What other explanation could there be for how he found himself living his perfect life. Gai by his side, Tenzo as his right hand man after Tsunade-sama forced him to take the Hokage’s hat so that she could retire.
Actually, the only reminder that he was in fact alive and breathing was his job as Hokage. It was too bad Naruto still had so much growing to do before he could take over the job himself, but he wasn’t going to be the asshole who through the kid head first into a job he wasn’t prepared for.
“Shouldn’t you be on your way to work?” Leave it to Gai to remind him of the one thing he wants to forget about this morning. “Or are you planning to spend all day in bed?”
That sounds like an enjoyable day. No work, no human interaction other than Gai, and as much sleep as he wants? Kakashi genuinely cannot think of a better way to spend his day.
Far superior in his mind than going to work just to find a whole new pile of paperwork waiting for him. Honestly, at this point he’s certain Shizune must be finding paperwork from Tsunade-sama’s days as Hokage and pawning it off on him. There’s no other logical explanation for why there’s so damn much of it.
“I was joking,” there’s a worried look on Gai’s face when he focuses back on him. “Kakashi, you have to go to work.”
“Mmmm,” moving one leg over Gai’s body, he sat himself down on the Green Beasts waist. Careful not to bump his injured leg. “But your idea sounds so wonderful, and I’ve earned myself a day off haven’t I?”
He wasn’t really sure if the Hokage actually got a day off. There was always so much to do. Taking a day of could easily result in being behind on his work for a week.
Though, if he put in two extra hours of work a day and skipped his midday nap…
Yep, that wasn’t going to happen.
“Unfortunately, I think you’re right about me needing to go into work,” A shame too. Gai’s cuddles were always so warm and comfortable. “How about instead, you come visit me at lunch and maybe we can do something fun.”
A challenge, just eating lunch and chatting, or maybe something he’d have to lock the door for. All were good options in his opinion, even if his mind had gone to an extremely dirty place.
“I like the idea of lunch,” Gai’s hand was warm when he reached up to cup his face. “Maybe if you’re good and do your work without annoying Yamato, I’ll do something nice for you.”
‘Nice’ could mean a lot of things when it came to Gai, but Kakashi really enjoyed the mental image of himself Stradling Gai’s lap.
“Mmm, I’ll keep that offer in mind,” perhaps it would give him the push he needed to finish his paperwork before Gai arrived at his office. “Until then…”
Running his thumb along Gai’s cheek he leaned in close and brushed his lips against Gai’s, shivering when Gai moved his hand up the side of his face slowly and into his hair.
“I adore you,” Gai’s words vibrated against his lips. An intoxicating feeling that he chased after with another quick brush of their lips. “Are you going to kiss me, Rival? Or are you just here to tease?”
With a request like that, how could he deny Gai?
With only an inch of space left between them it took no effort to lean in and seal their lips together in a tender, passionate kiss. As he does that Gai’s fingers thread into his hair, playing with the long silver strands and keeping Kakashi close. Prolonging the kiss even after Kakashi tried to pull back.
              He laughs against Gai’s mouth.
Work was going to have to wait a little bit longer. He had no intention of leaving Gai’s side anytime soon when there was such amazing kisses for him to enjoy right where he was. Even if it did mean he’d have to listen to another lecture from Tenzo about being late.
It was absolutely, completely worth it.

Inner Turmoil - Chapter 5
Chapter 5 - Nightmares, Rescues, and Memories
FFN | AO3
She was paralyzed as she watched the scene before her. No matter how hard she tried to move, she just couldn’t get her body to respond. Her eyes were wide as the tears streamed steadily over her cheeks.
Kakashi was limp as the raven haired man held him by the throat. A large shuriken was protruding out of his back, one of the blades wedged in between his right shoulder blade and spinal cord. He coughed up blood as he tried to speak.
“Sa...kura.” The silver haired nin coughed.
Sasuke’s cold gaze stared at him. “Did you really think you would keep her from me?” He seethed.
“Kakashi!” Sakura cried out. “Sasuke, stop!”
Kakashi struggled to turn his eyes towards Sakura, his chest heaving as it became even more difficult to breathe.
“None of this would have happened if she had just come with me, Hatake…” He smirked. “Say goodbye.”
Sakura tried to force her body to move as she watched Sasuke throw him. Horrified as she watched the man she loved die as Kakashi landed directly with the shuriken as it pulled him backwards, and finished puncturing through his body, the tip of the blade coming out of his chest. He convulsed before going still as his eyes rolled back.
“Kakashi!” She screamed in her sleep.
The silver haired nin jumped up instantly, glancing down at Sakura. Her skin was pale and she was soaked in a cold sweat.
He knew this state all too well.
“Sakura…” He called out softly. He gently shook her shoulder. “Sakura, wake up.” He kissed her forehead. She started trembling and tears were streaming down her face.
“No...No!” She sobbed. “Sasuke, no!” She thrashed around, flipping over. She had flung her weight into his chest, her arms coming around him, gripping his torso tightly.
He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, holding her close and kissing her head. He buried his face in her neck before talking in a low, consoling, but slightly firm timbre.
“Sakura, I love you,” He rubbed circles into her lower back. “I’m right here. Wake up and look at me…” He shook her shoulders a little more roughly this time. “Sakura, please wake up.” His voice gained some urgency as she continued to cry out in a panic.
The pink haired woman suddenly shot up out of bed, stiff as a board. Her eyes were wide and stinging with tears. A chill ran through her body as she shuddered. She raked her fingers through her hair as her chest heaved with the heavy exhales. Her heart thundered in her chest and she could hear it pounding in her ears.
“Sakura, I’m right here.” He grabbed her hands and brought them to his face. “Look at me,” He carefully and slowly brought his hands to rest over her face, brushing his thumbs over her cheek bones. He steered her gaze towards him, making eye contact her. “It was just a nightmare…”
She looked at him, staring into his eyes. She let out a shaky breath, trying to calm her breathing. It wasn’t long before she buried her face into his neck. Her arms moved to wrap around him. She sunk into his embrace, anchoring herself to him.
She focused on the fact that she could hear him breathe. She could feel his pulse, which was slightly elevated, on his neck against her arm. She could also feel each rise and fall of his chest, feel his breath run across her messy locks on top of her head. She focused on the circles he still continued to massage into her lower back, grounding herself in everything that showed life in him.
It had seemed so real, so vivid. And she knew deep down that it could become a reality. She didn’t know what to do, she didn’t want to see Kakashi get hurt because of her. However, she also knew he would give his life for her, or anyone else.
Kakashi just held her, he didn’t know what to say. He knew there was nothing that would stop the rush of fear that was rushing in her veins right now. Nothing he could say would stop the horrors she was shown from returning. It was months before he stopped waking up in cold sweats, believing he was still being pecked away by birds from Itachi’s tsukuyomi. He felt her body slowly calm, her breath evened. She seemed to be grounded now.
“I’m not going anywhere, Sakura…” He murmured softly in her ear.
She nodded softly. “I’m… sorry that I woke you.”
Kakashi shook his head and tightened his embrace a moment. “It’s okay, I understand…”
“Kakashi…” She sighed. “I can’t bear the thought of people getting hurt over trying to protect me…”
He took a sharp intake of breath. “Sakura, no.” His voice was stern, but it was earnest. “You are not going to join him…”
She frowned. “What choice do I have?” She snapped. “Ino could already be hurt because of me, and now he’s threatened you over me!”
“Sakura, listen to me!” His voice had an edge to it. “I will not let you sacrifice yourself.”
He stared into her eyes. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing her. She was the embodiment of happiness. She was his happiness. This was the exact thing he feared before he let his walls down. He couldn’t lose her, like he had lost everything else. She had promised him she wasn’t going anywhere. His heart pounded in his chest as the thoughts of not having her in his arms ever again raced through his mind. Thoughts of never seeing her smile again or kissing her. He brought his hands up to gently cup her face, not sure what else he could say, knowing full well he was probably just making her angry.
“I will not let my best friend die over selfish emotions!” She hissed, trying to keep her voice low, despite her anger. He tried to pull away from his grip, her eyebrows turning down in a glare towards him.
“It’s not selfish!” He insisted.
“Oh, yeah! We get to stay happy and together while Choji suffers knowing the girl he's loved all his life was killed in an attempt to bait her best friend!” She retorted, her eyes narrowing. “Totally not selfish!” Her voice dripped with venomous sarcasm.
Kakashi winced softly, realizing that, maybe okay, yes, it might be selfish for him to choose his love over their friend’s love.
No one thought about choosing between them, himself included. Why did she?
Does she ever think to take care of herself, to protect herself too? Her heart ached. She always put their team first, healing and healing until her hands burned from chakra use and it flickered out. They would have to force her to stop, or else he was sure she would pour ever bit of her life source into them if it meant they would be okay.
So naturally, she’s more than prepared to give herself over to the snakes of the leaf if it meant her best friends lived and loved and went on as a ninja. Even if it meant her misery, or her death.
The silver nin pulled her close once more, despite her attempts (rather weak ones, in his opinion with his knowledge of her own strength) to fight his pull. She settled for huffing in annoyance and refusing to look at him.
He gently grabbed her chin and turned her to face him and  gave her a chaste kiss to her lips. “I just got you, I’m not going to lose you, damnit. This isn’t about you or Ino coming home. It’s about both of you coming home.” His tone was resolute, no argument. “If you think for even second that anyone on this squad, especially Naruto, and me, would ever let you join those traitorous snakes, then you truly don’t see how much we care for you.”
Sakura’s gaze at him softened at his words, and she reached up to press her hands against his. Her eyes welled up with tears, which only angered her a little more. She wasn’t supposed to be this person anymore. People weren’t supposed to suffer because of her and she wasn’t supposed to cry anymore. “Kakashi…” She spoke softly.
He wiped her tears away softly with the pads of his thumbs. “Sakura, I love you.” He mumbled softly. He pecked her cheek, her nose. He just showered her face with kisses. “And I will protect this team and the people I care about, and especially you.”
“I don’t need protection…” She grumbled, even as she smiled at his affection.
“We are dealing with Orochimaru and Sasuke.” He chastised. “There’s a reason we have a 12 man squad.” He sighed. “And it’s not about whether I think you need my protection or not, Sakura…” He said with clear irritation.
Sakura raised an eyebrow at him. “You’ve always protected me, and me first. I’ve always been the weakest one of Team Kakashi…”
He took a lock of her hair into his hands, playing with it. “That may have been true once.” He smiled. “But now, I’d protect you first because living life without you in it isn’t bearable. Because I care about you, and I know I can keep you safe…”
Before she could say anything back, he winced slightly before resting his head on her shoulder. He took a deep breath before slowly letting it out.
She frowned, knowing exactly where the pain was coming from. “Why didn’t you say something?” Now she sounded like an irritated nurse, Dr. Haruno coming into action now. He knew that tone much too well, and knew the lectures that usually came with it. It was the same tone she used on all of their team after hunting them down after missions to force heal their injuries, even if they were minor.
“I didn’t want to add to your stress, or have you using precious chakra on me.” He inhaled and exhaled slowly once more. “I’m fine, the pain will fade in a few moments. I didn’t always have orders to be healed regularly, if you have forgotten.”
She gave out an aggravated noise before pushing him onto the bed and straddling his hips. “How many times do I have to tell you? We are literally in the field, right now!” She scolded before raising her hand, the green glow of her healing chakra already present, and gently pressing her palm over his sharingan. “And that was before it started to effect your body in such a way, before you had used it to such extents to where it would fucking bleed.” She huffed something about ‘stupid and overly resilient men’ under her breath, but he just smiled as he gave in.
He let out a defeated sigh, and then another one of relief as her chakra worked its way into his eye. He rested his hands on her hips, before a smirk played across his features.
She frowned. “What the hell are you down there smiling about?”
“We should play doctor more often.” He said in a playful tone, before pressing his hips upwards.
Her face instantly turned a dark shade of red. “Kakashi!” She hissed, completely undignified.
He could tell his eye was fine now, so he rolled them over so that he was towering over her. “Hmmm?” He kissed down her neck, nipping softly. “I think you could use the relaxation release gives you…” He gently ran his hands up her sides and cupped her breasts. “Your entire body is still tense, and we have to be able to run today.” He chuckled mischievously. “It would be a shame if we had to stop because your muscles got too tense.”
She was still cherry red as she let out a small whimper. “Kakashi…” He used all her willpower to push her very irresistible man from her body with her hands pressed to his chest. “I… can’t.” She looked away. “Not right now.”
The older ninja instantly stopped his teasing and turned her face back to look at him again. “Okay. I understand.” He pecked her lips softly before laying back down on his side to watch her.
She turned on her side to face him. She just gazed over all of him, knowing she could never bear the thought of not having him. They had been together for hardly two weeks now, but it felt like so much longer. She gulped softly as the guilt settled in.
“Kakashi…” She reached out to grip his hand tightly. “I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “Don’t be, it’s fine.” He brought an arm around her and pulled her close to his chest. “I understand.” He kissed the top of her head.
He rested her forehead against his chest and sighed. “Thank you..”
He nodded, running his fingers through her hair. He learned quickly that that calmed her and he tried to note anything that could ease her anxiety.
He knew she wouldn’t want to think about it, but he also knew she needed to talk about it. Things ate at Sakura from the inside out, and he didn’t want her to be in such distress.
“Sakura, what were you dreaming about?” He asked her quietly.
She stiffened at the question but took a deep breath. “It was just one of the many visions I was shown of Sasuke killing you…” Her hands stopped moving along his back. “I was paralyzed and couldn’t do anything but watch and scream…” She shuddered at the memory.
Kakashi nodded softly, not asking for any more details. “I’m right here. Just remember that.”
She nodded softly, before slowly falling back asleep. She felt safe in his arms, and took the feel of his body against hers as a constant reminder that he was safe, at least for the moment.
Kakashi knew they still had a couple hours before the others woke up, well, if her screaming hadn’t woken them. Now that he really thought of it, he was sure the sounds of screaming definitely woke up a squad of camping shinobi.
He was thankful that no one had come to the tent, she would have hated for anyone to see her in such a distraught state, maybe besides Naruto and Hinata. He also knew he wouldn’t be going back to sleep, so he just continued to stroke her hair, hoping the relaxing effect would last through the rest of her sleep.
Sai had been sitting at the fire, finding himself unable to sleep, before he heard Sakura cry out. He had instantly run over to his teammates’ tent, before he could hear Kakashi already beginning to console her. He smiled a bit, a bit shocked to hear such a comforting tone come from the legendary copy nin that would be, Kakashi Hatake. He listened for awhile, making sure Sakura wouldn’t need any other assistance.
Soon he returned to the fire to sit and watch the flames dance in the dark. He heard another tent open and turned to see Hanabi walking towards him. He gave his usual smile and waved at her. “Hello, Hanabi. Are you well?”
The young Hyuuga watched him for a moment, fighting a blush before nodding. “I’m okay, just a little cold.” She sat next to him by the fire.
“Neji is on watch at the moment, but I haven’t been able to sleep.” Sai spoke matter of factly.
She nodded. “I think it was Kakashi-sensei’s next, right?” She wondered aloud.
Sai nodded. “I believe so, but I may take his watch.” He said thoughtfully, thinking Sakura may need their team leader at her side.
Hanabi smiled, also having heard Sakura’s terrored screams. “So, is it true that Kakashi and her are together?” She asked.
Sai nodded. “I don’t think I’ve seen Sakura as… Happy since I met her.”
She nodded softly. “I think it’s sweet that you’ll take over Kakashi’s watch so he doesn’t have to leave her.” She scooted a little closer to him.
“The book says that building friendships is easy when you do things to help them.” He smiled at Hanabi. “I’d protect my team anyway I can, but I will also protect you if that time ever comes.”
She stared back at Sai, before kissing his cheek. “I’m glad.”
Sai watched her for a moment, before raising a hand to touch the spot her lips had caressed ever so lightly.
Neji watched the scene from a branch above their camp, a small smile gracing his lips. He could only imagine the thoughts running through the socially inept shinobi’s thoughts at the moment.  He wasn’t surprised to see Hanabi make a move. She had always been more bold than Hinata, even going as far to have disputes with Hiashi as she got older. He also knew that Sai would protect her and she would never be in danger in his presence.
“What was that for..?” He asked the girl quietly.
She shrugged. “Because I wanted to.” She got up then and walked back to her tent.
Sai pondered for a moment, not sure what to make of her action. He decided he would have to ask Naruto and Sakura for advice on this one.
Just then the obnoxious blonde came out of his tent and stretched. He came to sit down on the log across from Sai by the fire. “Can’t sleep either, huh Sai?”
“No, not quite, Dickless.”
Naruto scowled at the nickname. “I’d tell you to ask Hina all about that just to prove it’s wrong, but I think she’d faint.” He laughed off.
“Do you think Sakura is okay?” Sai asked softly.
Naruto’s expression turned back to exhausted, which was exactly how he felt.
It was obvious to anyone who knew her well that she was far from okay. Her best friend was just kidnapped by the guy she used to pine after. Sasuke put her through a tsukuyomi, showing her Kakashi’s death by his hands over and over again. His teammate had already been through so much emotional torment by Sasuke, and the fact it continues even after she finally moves on angered him beyond belief.
He sighed heavily. “Sakura wears her heart on her sleeve. As a shinobi, she bears many more emotions than most, as do I.” He smiled a bit. “Most people have grown accustomed to that part of us. Some still point it out as weakness. However, this time around, I think she’s trying to hide them.” He sighed. “She is supposed to be the one to save people, and right now I’m sure she has convinced herself she has put Ino and Kakashi in danger by refusing Sasuke, let alone everyone else on this mission.”
Sai nodded. “Do you still believe there is hope in bringing Sasuke back?” He knew this was a sensitive subject, having learned to not call him a traitor and so on.
Naruto was silent for a few moments before shaking his head slowly. “I would have believed it, even after him kidnapping Ino. He’s done so many things, and I tried to believe that once he got his revenge, he would come back to us.”
Sai watched him intently, knowing the story of the Uchiha clan.
“But, after finding out he put Sakura in a tsukuyomi, and doing it basically out of pure jealousy…” His expression hardened, and the firelight only made him look even more angry.
“I can’t believe he still cares for us if he would put Sakura through that. He has threatened to kill us, tried to kill all three of us many times.” He laughed coldly. “However, it was antagonized, or we were in the way of his real goal. It was able to somehow be excused. But for him to suddenly decide he was going to just use Sakura for a means to an end, not even deciding he did love her…” He shook his head. “It’s unforgivable. She’s a shinobi, not just some baby machine. I don’t even know if she wants kids at all…”
Sai nodded before glancing at the tent. “She had a nightmare…”
Naruto nodded. “I heard, but I figured I’d let Kakashi handle it.” He smiled. “Sakura doesn’t like to be seen as weak, even though she isn’t, the less people who see her in a shaken state, the better for her.”
Sai smiled genuinely. “She is quite strong, as we both know, so why doesn’t she think so?”
“Oh, she knows.” Kakashi came out of the tent and chuckled. “But it doesn’t stop her insecurities and comparing herself to the rest of her class, let alone her teammates.”
He looked up at the trees above them. “Neji, it’s time for my watch.”
“Actually, I was going to take your watch for you, Kakashi.” Sai smiled.
Naruto watched the two before smiling.
Kakashi looked at him before shaking his head. “I’ve got my watch, but thank you Sai.” Then he gave an eye crease. “Besides, I believe you have a question and something to maybe explore on your own, Sai.”
Sai’s eyed widened before he smiled again. “Ah, yes.” He turned to Naruto. “What reason would a girl kiss my cheek?”
Naruto stared at him blankly before busting out laughing, trying to quiet himself. “Why do you ask, Sai?”
“Because the young Hyuga girl I’ve been paired up to protect kissed my cheek, after telling me I was sweet.” Sai watched Naruto, confused by his reaction.
Neji landed silently between them. “Naruto, you’ll wake the whole camp with your howling if you don’t shut up.” He turned to Sai and couldn’t help the slightest bit of a smile.
Kakashi sighed and shook his head at his team’s antics. “Sai, are you sure you didn’t read anything in a book about this?”
“No, I have not. Nothing comes up about kisses in friendship books.”
“Didn’t I suggest you read Icha-Icha?”
Sai frowned. “Sakura told me not to read those if I was looking for ways to build relationships with people…”
Kakashi only raised an eyebrow. “Well, I beg to differ. You would know what a kiss means if you had read them.”
Naruto just rolled his eyes. “Pervy Sage is smiling down on you, such a loyal fan you are Kakashi.” He smiled fondly, before laughing even more.
Hinata came out of her and Naruto’s tent to see what was going on. She rubbed her eyes blearily as she approached them. “Naruto…?” She called out softly. “What’s so funny?”
The poor Hyuga fought the urge to go check on Sakura herself, remembering Naruto’s words about trying to not draw more attention to her. She wondered when her sometimes absent-minded boyfriend became so careful.
Neji looked at Hinata and shook his head softly. “It would seem that Hanabi kissed Sai’s cheek, and the former ANBU is not quite sure what to make of it.”
Hinata's eyes widened before she smiled. “I remember a certain person who was confused when Tenten made a similar action.”
Neji’s face turned a light shade of pink before defending himself. “I knew what it meant! I was just surprised!”
Sai looked at Neji, noting that he was sure him and Tenten were a couple, and wondering why he was embarrassed by the information.
Kakashi sighed before sitting next to Sai. “Okay, Sai, let me explain this to you.” He gave his normal eye crease of a smile. “When Sakura and I got together, she kissed me.” He smiled at the memory. “Now, me and Sakura had been treading that boundary between friendship and romance for awhile, and Sakura is also a grown woman and bold about it, so her crossing such boundaries in a bold manner suits her.”
Sai stared at his team leader with curiosity. “So, a kiss is a show of affection…”
Kakashi nodded. “Yes. Or lust, take your pick, it all depends on the situation. It can even be both…” He added the end with a sly tone.
“Kakashi!” Naruto hissed, hating the insinuation behind it. Hinata turned a little red herself now and hushed Naruto.
“In terms of the young Hanabi, Hyuga tends to be more reserved. She’s not as shy as her elder sister, but she won’t cross such blatant boundaries as Sakura would. Not to mention she’s also a young girl who tends to be more insecure.”
“So, Hanabi, is expressing romantic interest in myself?” Sai concluded out loud.
Hinata giggled softly. “Yes, and believe me I hear all about it. She’s quite curious about you.”
Sai frowned. “But she is fourteen …”
Naruto had finally calmed down but chuckled nonetheless. “How many years are between Kakashi and us again?” He said with a smirk.
“Hey now, that was... different.”
Sai was not quite convinced. “She’s so… Young.”
Hinata nodded, and Neji showed no response. They were well aware that Hiashi seemed to kind of like the ninja, but it was never talked about in ways of now idea.
“It would seem pretty much everyone besides our medic is awake.” Shikamaru commented as he walked up to the scene, the concern hidden somewhere in his lazy tone.
Kakashi took a look around and nodded. “She needs the rest…”
Everyone nodded, well aware of the unspoken.
“Let’s start packing up and covering our tracks while we wait for her to wake up. We need to get moving quickly in case of injury to Ino.”Yamato called out as he began taking down his tent and repacking his gear which he had already pulled out of the shelter.
Everyone followed suit, packing up their own shelters while Kakashi stood watch, keeping a close eye on the perimeter. After about an hour, Sakura came out of the tent. She had slept for almost two hours since falling back to sleep.
He glanced at her, and was happy to see she seemed much more rested and calm. The stiffness in her body was gone. Her hair was put up pulled back and she seemed just as confident as she was any other day. He smiled softly behind his mask.
“Have any of you ate since yesterday?” She crossed her arms and eyed her squad. She knew ninja had a bad habit of eating poorly on missions.
They looked at each other before laughing nervously.
She huffed. “Figures. Don’t even think of putting that fire out.” She ducked back into the tent before coming out with her pack. She always brought things to cook quickly on missions that were of actual sustenance. She fished out finding one of her storage scrolls before making the hand signs to release it as it rolled open. She started plucking around finding things she knew her usual team members liked.
“Ramen!” Naruto pounced over to her to grab one of the instant cups. “I already know where I’m going to get the water!” He whispered excitedly.
Sakura just rolled her eyes as Naruto bounded off to some stream nearby. “There’s jerky and dried fruit rations as well. Help yourself.”
She stood up and walked away. She began pulling the cots and things from the tent while everyone found something to eat from her scroll.
Kakashi came back to help her silently. They packed everything up quickly. Once the tent and the rest of their belongings was packed up she eyed Kakashi. “Did you eat?”
He nodded and gave his normal eye crease as he held a bag of fruit and a bag of jerky. “I was going to make sure you did as well.” He said as he tossed her the bag of dried fruit.
She caught it with ease before her lips formed a small smile.
“Everyone, get back in formation and let’s head out.”
Kakashi summoned one of his ninken. “Lead Yamato and Neji to the hideout, Pakkun.”
Pakkun bounded up to the front with Yamato and Neji, following his orders.
“What the fuck is your deal, Sasuke?” The blonde spat out venomously as he dropped her to the ground in front of Orochimaru.
“What is this?” The elder man asked curiously.
“Motivation.” Sasuke said bluntly.
Ino hands her tied behind her back but she still forced herself into a sitting position and stared back at Sasuke. “You’ve got some fucking nerve.” She spat.
Sasuke looked back at her. “I forgot how chatty you were.” He scowled.
“I forgot how painfully arrogant you were.” She growled.
“Is this the Yamanaka girl?” Orochimaru asked.
“Yes, she’s Sakura’s best friend.” He glared at the floor. “Turns out, she’s not so head over heels for me anymore. She’s slutting around with Kakashi.”
Ino fumed. “Oh wait, that’s right, she was just supposed to wait for your self righteous ass to just suddenly decide revenge wasn’t more important! Sorry, I forgot to remind her when she smiled a real smile for the first time since you left her on a fucking bench.” She seethed. “At least Kakashi has a fucking heart.”
Orochimaru chuckled. “Well, she’s terribly feisty.”
Ino turned to look at the creepy man before her. She had heard enough about him. He killed the third hokage. Tried to kill Naruto. She knew he was the deranged teammate of Jiraiya and Tsunade.
“Ah yes, the irony. One traitor trained by another.” She retorted in disgust.
“I imagine your plan is for Sakura to come rescue her. Her joining us in exchange for Ino’s safety?” Orochimaru pondered.
Sasuke nodded. “I also plan to kill the copycat bastard, I’m sure he’ll be with her.”
Orochimaru laughed. “Jealousy doesn’t suit you Sasuke.”
“I don’t know what the fuck he’s got to be jealous over.” Ino glared at the two men before he.
Sasuke slapped her across the face. “None of your goddamn business.”
Ino glared at him as she spat the blood from her teeth cutting into her cheek at him. “Everything about my best friend is my goddamn business, you prick.” She narrowed her cerulean eyes at him. “Then again, you know a damned thing about friendship, would you!” She continued to glare at him, her body tense and ready to react to more blows. “And if you think for a second any of us will let her join you, you don’t know the first thing about being a Leaf shinobi!”
“How do you expect them to find us?”
“I’m sure they have a whole squad coming for us, and Kakashi has his ninken to track. I didn’t bother trying to hide myself.”
The snake shinobi frowned. “That means I’ll need a new hideout when this is all over, what a shame.”
“You’re the one who wanted Sakura in the first place.” Sasuke chided irritably.
Ino stared on in disgust. “What the fuck for?”
“To heal these wretched arms.” Orochimaru sneered.
“You think she’s going to help you?” Ino laughed now. “Sakura wouldn’t do a damn thing for you, even if her life depended on it.”
“True, but now it’s yours that depends on it.” He chuckled darkly.
Ino glared. “Team Kakashi won’t be the only people coming, you know.” Then she smiled. “I would just bet my own team leader is itching to do some damage to the man that killed his father.”
Orochimaru gave a sinister smile before licking his lips and kneeling down to Ino eye level. “I’ll kill him just as easily as I killed Hiruzen-Sensei, darling.”
She glared. “Oh yes, so easily. That's why you had to call upon the first and second right?” She smirked. “Because you knew you couldn’t beat him on your own.”
Ino shivered then, the fear setting in, even as she braved against them. She hoped there would be enough people to save her, and that Sakura wouldn’t really sacrifice herself to him.
She longed for Choji’s embrace right about now, the feeling of safeness she felt in his arms. Here it was cold. Everything was, the air, the floor. Sasuke and Orochimaru just looked cold hearted as they stood there silently, just waiting.
She wondered what she ever saw in Sasuke back then. He was always cold and distant. Arrogant. He couldn’t be bothered with any of them. She remembered what she had heard Naruto tell of the story.
I’m done playing ninja.
“It shouldn’t be too long before they arrive.” Sasuke said, before grabbing a kunai and grabbing Ino roughly by the hair and raising her up. He stabbed her in the top of her thigh, not vital but enough to bleed and cause a lot of pain. She cried out in pain and thrashed, trying to get away from him.
“You sick bastard…” She growled out as she clenched her teeth in pain.
Sasuke just smirked. “Just a little more motivation.” He chuckled darkly. “They should be here soon, I wonder how many they sent.”
Orochimaru smiled pleasantly. “Ah, well the more the merrier.” He stated with a sinister pleasantry lilting in his voice.
She groaned out in pain, her breathing ragged. It hurt so much, but she could heal it. She was trying to decide if it was such a good idea. If she healed this non-life threatening wound, would they dish out that was? Was that a risk worth taking?
For now, she decided to deal with the pain. She’d prefer to at least be alive if her friends were coming to the trouble of retrieving her. And she knew they would, there was now way they would leave her behind.
Not Sakura. Not Choji. She knew she drove Shikamaru insane but she didn’t doubt his loyalty for a second, not one bit. She bit her lip, tears pricking her eyes, but she fought them. She growled out as she ground her teeth. If she was going down, she’d be damned if she was a little bitch about it.
She couldn’t tell how much time had passed as she watched her blood pool around the floor. It seemed to be forever, just sitting in silence. She turned and wretched around to try and not so much pressure on her arms. She could feel that there were rope burns on her wrists at this point. They were burning and she could feel an extra sting of pain everytime she moved. It was agonizing. She had just let her eyes slip closed when something brushed against her.
Mice? She glanced around before she realized it was an ink creature.
Hope rushed through her veins as she realized it was the same scouting mice she heard Sakura tell her Sai used. She heard the angry voice of one certain blonde knucklehead echo through the corridors.
“SASUKE!”
She saw wood penetrate the floor around and create a cage over her body. She wanted to panic at first, before she sensed the chakra signature.
Or rather, signatures. Her eyes widened as she realized how many of them came. Some of them were even unfamiliar.
Sasuke jerked his head to somewhere down the hall, she supposed the entrance.
“I expected them… Later.” His eyes narrowed. “Surely they had to rest.”
Orochimaru laughed. “Ninja from the lead are persistent, don’t you remember?” He looked over at Ino, distaste clear in his yellow eyes. “Of course, my experiment is here. Tsk.”
“Ino!” Sakura called out, the distress clear in her voice.
Panic rose in the blonde's heart. Why the hell is she out in the open! She should have been somewhere safe, stayed back. Not right here with them. No, no, no. That’s not how this is supposed to fucking work, damnit.
“Sakura…” Sasuke called out in his distant, but deep lilting tone.
She heard the footsteps hasten. So many steps. She was shocked. What were there, maybe 9 people? No, there’s more…
“Sasuke!”
“Naruto, get her out of here!” Ino screamed.
They came running into the room where she could see them now. Yamato, Neji, and that one little pug of Kakashi’s. They were followed by Shikamaru, Choji, and Temari?! Another Hyuga(is that Hanabi?) and Sai? And then there was Asuma, Sakura and Kakashi, followed by Naruto and Hinata.
Twelve people. All for her. She knew she was the next head of one of the five main clans, but she didn’t think they would risk so many of their best ninja against Orochimaru, even for that length.
Tears flowed down her cheeks. “Choji, Shika!” She sobbed, not able to seem so strong anymore. What good would she have really done for herself? Her hands were tied, she couldn’t have made a single hand sign if she wanted. She wasn’t Sakura, she couldn’t channel chakra into strength to break the ropes.
“Shut it!” Sasuke snapped. His eyes landed on Sakura. “Have you made a decision then?”
Her eyes were dark emerald and angry as she met Sasuke’s gaze. Her eyes slid over to Orochimaru, the same disgust lying in them. “Let Ino go.”
Ino couldn’t ever remember a time when her pink haired friend sounded so dangerous.
“I believe there was an arrangement in order for this to happen.”
Kakashi had his sharingan uncovered and activated. He stood tall and foreboding, ready and waiting for someone to make a wrong move. Him and Asuma on either side of Sakura, Asuma had his chakra blades out, ready to attack.
She felt something wrap around her wrist. She looked down to find a shadow circling her arm.
Sakura took a step forward. “You will release her before I do anything.”
“I’m afraid that’s not how this works…” Orochimaru said sweetly.
Sasuke’s eyes didn’t leave Sakura. He grabbed his katana, moving to weave it through the wood limbs surrounding her to stab her once more.
Suddenly the wood moved and wrapped around his wrist, and shoved him out.
“Now!” Shikamaru called. She quickly ripped the ropes with his shadows.
The wood dispersed from Ino before she jumped up and heaved herself in their direction as she sent a burst of healing chakra to the gash on her thigh.
Orochimaru went to stand before finding himself paralyzed. His eyes narrowed deeply. “A Nara.” Before he shot out his snake sword toward Ino.
Hinata was in front of her in an instant. “Protecting Eight Trigrams Sixty Four Palms!”She continued to block the blows of the sword from Ino.
She lurched towards them once more, before Choji ran for her and brought his arms around her. “I’ve got you.”
“Ino! Are you alright!” Temari ran over to her, immediately cutting the fabric around her wound. “I’m so sorry, we didn’t get to the village in time to warn you!”
Sakura ran to heal her, knowing Shikamaru could only hold Sasuke and Orochimaru for so long. “Oh my god…”
“Motivation…” Ino grumbled. “It wasn’t fatal, just painful and lots of blood…” She huffed.
She turned to Temari and offered a smile. “It’s no problem, really.”
After Sakura finished she turned around. She channeled chakra into her fist as she ran towards Sasuke and punched him straight in the face. She heard the definitive crack of his jaw breaking. Temari hurriedly bandaged the wound properly.
Shikamaru let the shadows go as his arms began shaking and he couldn’t hold them anymore, and the part of the plan was done now.
“I will never fucking be a part of this.” She seethed. Orochimaru was on her in an instant, but not before Kakashi and Naruto were at her back.
“You won’t lay a finger on her!” Naruto growled.
She shot another chakra laden punch into his chest, knocking the breath out of him just as he was about to perform his fire jutsu.
She was the distraction, using the main target to keep their attention. She hoped it worked.
Sasuke's eyes became activated just before Neji’s hit landed, neutralizing his chakra use. Another hit, and he’s unconscious
Sasuke fell to the ground, another thump following Orochimaru’s body doing the same from Hanabi’s gentle fist.
Everything held silent as they held their breath, ready to attack, just in case it didn’t work.
Naruto was the first to loosen. “I still don’t understand why!”
Yamato sighed. “This mission to retrieve Ino, and it was supposed to be before she got here.”
“We need to go, they won’t be out for long.” Neji said distantly, his byakugan active. “The chakra is already breaking the barriers. Hanabi needs to leave now.”
He retained a fighting stance as Yamato nodded.
“We all need to leave now.”
Kakashi watched Orochimaru carefully. “How many of you have emergency transfer scrolls?”
Yamato, Asuma, Temari, and Neji indicated they had them.
“My scroll is for my village, but I need to report back there anyway…” Temari explained.
Yamato nodded. “Everyone divides up into groups of three then.” He stated matter of factly.
“Hinata and Hanabi can come with me, ours is set in the Hyuga compound unlike the rest.”
“Asuma, take Choji and Ino. Take her straight to the hospital after.” Sakura said in her medic voice, an order not a request.
“I’ll take Sakura and Naruto.”Kakashi said plainly.
“That leaves Sai and Shikamaru for my scroll.” Yamato smiled curtly.
Temari gave Shikamaru a chaste kiss on the cheek. “I’ll contact you as soon as I can.”
He nodded before returning a discreet kiss on her forehead before she made her signs with her scroll and disappeared.
The four with scrolls quickly made the signs over them as their pairs held onto them in some way. Just as Sasuke’s eyes opened, the air around them swirled and went fuzzy as their surroundings changed.
Sakura felt her stomach turn, this particular jutsu was harder on the body, which is why it was for emergencies. She felt dizzy.
They all appeared at the gates, with the exception of the Hyugas.
She instantly grabbed onto Kakashi’s arm as the world continued to spin. She closed her eyes as she waited for it to fade away. She felt hands on her hips, steadying her.
She heard Naruto whine. “I hate doing that.” He huffed.
“Agreed.” She groaned.
Kakashi chuckled. “Nausea and dizziness is much better than being mortally injured or dead.”
Naruto straightened and nodded. He watched Sakura before taking a deep breath. “You need to go to the hospital too.”
Kakashi raised an eyebrow at him, surprised Naruto was going to be the one to address this further.
“Why does Forehead need to go to the hospital?”
Everyone went silent, looking at one another, deciding who would tell, if they would tell. If it was worth Sakura’s wrath to tell.
The blonde narrowed her eyes before setting them on Sakura. “You had better tell me.”
“I’m fine.” Sakura tried to insist as she opened her eyes and stood straight. The world was no longer spinning.
Kakashi frowned. “Sakura…”
Naruto groaned. “Stop that! You can’t get mad at us for not taking care of ourselves if you won’t do it!”
Sakura wanted to knock him upside the head, but she knew he was right. And she was trying to get a hold on her anger issues these days.
“Sasuke used his genjutsu on me when I refused to go with him… Before he abducted you.”
“Sakura!” Ino stood up with effort and stomped over to her, well as much as you could stomp with a limp. “Let’s go. Infection check for me, psych eval for you. You idiot!” The blonde simmered. “What the hell were you thinking going on that mission! Did you even tell Tsunade!”
“I was saving you!” She huffed as Ino grabbed her arm and started dragging her towards the hospital.
“They could have done that without putting you at risk, damnit!”
“I’d be damned if I wasn’t on the rescue squad when I was the reason you were kidnapped in the first place!”
Ino stopped and looked at her seriously. “You cannot seriously be blaming yourself for this.” She frowned. “Sasuke being a traitorous and unrightfully jealous bastard is not your fault.” Ino sighed exasperated. “So help me, Forehead, if you ever risk yourself for me again, I’m going to knock you into next month, you hear me!” Ino shrieked at her.
Sakura grumbled as she crossed her arms. They walked on to the hospital for a minute, before Sakura stopped and hiked Ino up onto her back, insisting she only worsen the damage by toughing through the pain, telling her she did stop the bleeding but nothing else.
Shikamaru came to stand by them. “Sakura is just as troublesome as Ino isn’t she?” He smiled softly.
“I wouldn’t call her troublesome, but stubborn is definitely a word that comes to mind.” Kakashi smiled and laughed before it died out.
“She really would have given herself to them if there was no other way, wouldn’t she have?” Asuma stated.
Naruto frowned. Kakashi nodded.
“Why! She just got with you. She's the head medic of the village! She’s supposed to be my advisor, alongside Shikamaru, when I become hokage!” He emblazoned. “Why would she give all that up, to become miserable, a missing nin, and Sasuke’s personal baby maker!”
The entire thought made Kakashi ground his teeth, but he understood. He couldn’t be too mad at her for it, because he would have done the same for any of the current Team Kakashi.
Shikamaru shook his head. “Naruto, if you really think about it, it makes sense.”
“Her and Ino are the same in a lot of ways. Rivals all the same. Ino and her both take care of other people, long before they take care of themselves. Ino checks us over herself, even after mandatory mission return check ups. She makes sure we eat, go out and socialize.”
“She makes us live a little, not just be a ninja. It’s bothersome but it’s necessary.” Shikamaru laughed. “Let me guess, Sakura chases you down and heals you all herself? I know you have a habit of avoiding hospitals at all costs. Kakashi. Naruto, you think you’re invincible. Sai, you just follow the suit of the other males in the team, right?”
Yamato nodded. “Even though I go for my visits, Sakura always comes to check and make sure everything was healed correctly.”
“Sakura blamed herself for this, she blames herself for a lot of things. She felt responsible for Ino’s safety as her friend but also because she feels like if she had agreed to go, she wouldn’t have been hurt in the first place.” Kakashi sighed.
Everyone began to go their own ways as Kakashi began walking home, sure that Sakura would come to his place after she was done at the hospital. There was a dreadful feeling in his chest, the very feeling he was so intimidated by before he finally let himself love her fully. That fear of losing her, the thing he would have to get used to living with.
She wouldn’t always be safe within the hospital, within the walls of the village. Sometimes her medical capabilities would be required on missions. Sometimes she would go on missions with her team, just like the past couple days.
He couldn’t stop protecting her, but he couldn’t expect her to put them first. He started to realize why most couples aren’t on teams together.
But he’s loved her before and it worked, it had to keep working.
He steered away from the path to his apartment, towards the grave stone. He found his way there easily. He weaved his way through the village and it’s people with ease.
He stood at the cenotaph once again, like a stone. Silent and sad. His shoulders were hanging. Relationships of any kind have always been difficult. Everything seemed like it would be easy with Sakura. Now he feared this need for her would start to interfere with that. She didn’t like being treated like she was fragile.
She seemed so mad at first, was she still mad? Did she understand? Was he actually selfish like she said, or was she just angry because he wasn’t going to let her sacrifice herself?
He knew she didn’t have any less value for him, but it didn’t make it hurt less that she was willing to give him up so… Easily?
Could it really be that easy, to choose saving Ino over having a life with him? To save Ino and have to be demeaned to nothing more than a homemaker by Sasuke everyday?  Something she didn’t want, or at least not at this current point in her life?
There’s no way that was an easy conclusion, but how could she just accept it so well?
Then he thought of every time he’s thrown himself to her protection, the exact same thoughts flowing in his mind as hers for Ino
As long as she will be okay...
“God, I don’t know how the hell I’m supposed to do this…” He sighed out loud. “Sakura takes the protecting ones she cares for to such an extreme degree… How is it I was able to let myself love her now, but fifteen years ago, I couldn’t let myself love you? Even when I tried? I don’t feel healed. I don’t feel any less… Pain.”
He ran his hand along Rin’s name on the stone. “She’d make the same decisions you made without a second thought. She’s so much like you, Rin…” He smiled. “Falling for the distant team mate and being such a caring person, never giving up on people. She believes in Naruto just as much you believed in Obito. Falling for me.”
“Why do they parallel us so much? Our team and the sannin, in so many ways. In some ways, it’s so painful to watch.” He frowned behind his mask. “But in so many ways, they are so much better. I believe in them.”
“I have to believe in them. Not because I love them, not because they’re my team, or because they are the first genin I ever passed. Because they are the ones to lead the next generation.”
He smiled, looking up at the sky. “I can see it clear as day more and more as I spend more time with these jounin and chuunin. The Third had such a big flame, and it burns within each of this class, the ones who witness his death.”
“I come here to talk to you and Obito often, always after missions. This one scared me, the simple thought to lose Sakura, even if she still lived, wretched at my heart. It was so different. It was terrifying, really.” He laughed.
“Ah yes, so funny, something scares the legendary copy cat ninja, the cold blooded killer of ANBU. He’d fall apart if he lost one little ill tempered medic. Sounds kind of cliche in a way?” He pondered. “I bet Jiraiya knew we’d be together long before it was a thought in our hearts. He probably would have written an Icha-Icha novel with the main characters in love resembling us in subtle ways.”
The copy nin stared at the stone. “Things are different now than they were back then. After Minato-sensei passed…” He tensed a bit. “I was… I couldn’t take it. It was too much. I couldn’t see Naruto without it bringing everything back. I just went back to ANBU, a deadly tool for the village. It wasn’t until Kurenai and Gai pleaded to the Third that I got out.  Feeling anything hurt too much, so I didn’t let myself feel.” He smiled wide. “And then they put that little brat on my team, except now calling him that is a term of endearment.”
“I remember how uncanny it was when I first saw them. Naruto instantly reminded me of Obito, acting like a fool and spewing about being hokage. Absolutely in love with Sakura and cared so much for her.” He ran a hand over Obito’s name on the stone. “Sakura was just like you, open and caring, and head over heels for the other teammate. Sasuke was a spitting image of me; cold, dutiful, and distant. A prodigy, the last of his clan. When they passed the test, I couldn’t refuse them. I tried to be what Minato was, but I’ve felt I never filled that expectation. Sasuke never listened to me the way I listened to him…”
Kakashi huffed and looked at her name again. “How were you able to love me, how is she able to? I’m no good at this. I like being in control of things, but now it feels like everything is slipping from my grasp. I had steeled myself, told myself no matter how I felt, I would never act on my feelings. I’d never be able to be what she needs anyway, I couldn’t be that for you…”
“How did I know I’d find you here, sulking like always?”
Kakashi turned to the voice of the senbon user. “What do you need?” He tried to sound bored.
“I think the real question is, what do you need?” Genma looked at his hand on the stone, placed over Rin’s name. “We all know she’s like her, you know.” He chuckled. “It’s part of how we could tell you fell for her. I bet they would have been best friends. I can see it now, Rin taking Sakura around the hospital as an intern. Welcoming and cheery. Ready to teach her the entire medic nin way.”
Kakashi smiled and chuckled a bit himself.
“You know, talking to your dead friends about advice is counterproductive.” He drawled past his senbon. “They can’t answer you, and tell you’re acting like an idiot, like a completely normal man. ”
Kakashi glared at him slightly. “Just how am I being an idiot?”
“You’re not going to mess it up, and you think you will. You’re staring at Rin’s name, thinking about how you couldn't love her, even when you tried at first, so how can you possibly love Sakura?” The brunette deadpanned.
Kakashi stared at him. “That wasn’t exactly… What I was thinking.”
“Sure it wasn’t, but it is in between the lines of your thoughts. I’ll tell you the answer. You refused to feel anything back then, we all knew it. We all seen it, and it started to look like our arrogant bastard friend wasn’t coming back, those three went to the Hokage.” Genma smirked. “You still tried to be distant but we, I drug you out of the house.”
He bounced his senbon. “You refused to teached anyone until the angsty mix of two failed team become one come across you. Nostalgia hits and something in you turns and you wonder many, many things and suddenly decide it’s worth trying life again. I’ll let you think back on what some of those thoughts were.”
What is Minato’s son really like?
Can I help Sasuke not become like me?
Will Naruto become Hokage like Obito wanted to, or will he tragically die too?
Sakura reminds me so much of Rin, it hurts.
She also seems to act like a lovesick teenager, not a shinobi.
They actually passed, they cared more for their teammates than rules…
“What brought you here today? Besides the guilt of surviving yet another mission past them. What’s really the stress here?”
Genma had always been blunt, he learned a long time ago it did no good to tiptoe around the silver haired man. Just get to the point, it’ll irritate him either way.
Kakashi stared at him a moment before sighing. “It didn’t strike me just exactly how similar she was to Rin until today. Sure, she was caring and outgoing like Rin, but she was also ill-tempered. Today, when she was willing to sacrifice herself to save Ino, she had accepted it openly. Willing to give up everything she has, everyone she has. Her job, her future as the medical director, being by Naruto’s side, being a medic. Being a kunoichi.” There was a shudder that went through him as the memory came back, one he tried not to recall ever. “Just as Rin gave her life to my chidori without a second thought to save the village… Sakura was ready t give up everything if it meant we would be safe from them...”
“Give up you, and your relationship.” Genma said plainly, not beating around the bush like Kakashi was. “Kakashi, you do realize it’s acceptable to not be okay with that? You’re her man, of course you’re not okay with her throwing herself to the fire. Or to feel even an inkling of doubt when you witness something like that.”
“But I understood it!” Kakashi defended. “I couldn’t be mad at her, because I would have done the same thing for her, for Naruto, for our team or even you! Asuma, Kurenai, or Guy!”
“You can accept something, and still be hurt by it.” Genma said dryly. “I thought you of all people would understand that? Or is that why you have your hand on Rin’s name? Even though no matter how many times we tell you it’s not your fault, you still don’t believe it. She loved you, and she loved this village, and it’s people. So does Sakura, and I guarantee you she would have done the same damn thing if she had been Rin instead of Sakura. But that’s one thing you love about her, isn’t it? Her sense of duty, even past her emotions?”
Genma’s gaze flickered over his shoulder and then he smiled. “Kakashi, we’re ninja. Our lives hang by a thread and things change every day. No one expects you to let go of the one person you let in completely. Not even her.” He winked before puffing away in a cloud of smoke after a series of hand signs.
Kakashi felt her chakra before he heard her. He couldn’t turn to look at her, what if she’s still angry? Angry that he wouldn’t have let her do it if it came down to it?
He felt her hand on his shoulder, and it squeezed. It trailed down his back, before she wrapped her arms around his waist, and buried her face between his shoulder blades. He took a deep breath and let alone but it didn’t release a single bit of tension. His hand was still over Rin’s name, it wouldn’t even be the first time she found him like this.
He felt her chest expand against his back, but she said nothing. He tried to keep breathing. Her presence calmed him, even just the tiniest of bits. She would wait until he was ready to talk, she always had waited.
Why was she able to be so patient with him? Would she ever tire of it, of him?
How much did she hear? Is she mad that he was here, comparing her to the girl he might have loved and married if life wasn’t so cruel? He couldn’t love her then, but would she be like Sakura is now if she had ever made it to adulthood? Patient, caring, never giving up.
He was sure she would have.
He sighed. “Sakura… I’m s-”
“Kakashi, are you really about to apologize for comparing me to Rin, for seeing parts of the girl you loved in me?” There was a touch of humour and affection in her voice and it surprised him.
He turned around to face her, glancing down at her face, and caught the happy glimmer in her eyes.
“I…”
“You’re not the first or only one to see it, or tell me. We learned about her in the academy you know, it’s even taught that she had loved you.” She placed her hands on his face. “And there is no shame in realizing that if given the chance, you would have loved her back. That you love her now. I’ve known that for forever.”
“And it doesn’t...bother you?”
“Why would it?”
“Uh… Most women don’t like comparisons.”
“Most women also have types and so do men. I don’t think it’s insulting to know you fell in love with another medic who insistently took care of you, even if you were indifferent and distant.”
“Damaged.” He said softly.
She frowned, before pulling him to start walking back to his apartment. “We’re all damaged. That’s part of our lifestyle.”
“What’s it with you medics being overly understanding.” He chided.
“Empathy makes the job worth it.”
He smiled sadly. “Life’s unfair, you shouldn’t have to bear burdens such as emotionally stupid men like me.”
“Stop that, you deserve someone who cares for you, you’ve spent the last however long sacrificing yourself and feeling guilt over people who cared for you. You’re far from a burden. You’ve more good than harm to me.”
“But now I have you… who frets about her teammates' health. Who believes in her idiot best friend, falls for the distant and damaged boy, and is more than ready and willing to give her life to save someone else’s. However, I can’t say Rin had a temper or loved our sensei romantically... ” He cracked a smile under his mask.
“Hey, my temper is usually justified...And she loved you, which is similar enough.”
His eyes softened. “I think you both have this incessant need to take care of people. Or the whole village itself.” He sighed. “And it scares me that I’ll lose you to that, just like I lost her…”
“And to take care of you.” Sakura said before kissing his masked cheek. “I’ll bet she’s up there, happy that you are happy, that there’s someone that cares for you as much as she did.”
“Maybe…” He kissed the top of her head.
“I can’t promise you that I wouldn’t do the same as her, because we both know it’d be a lie.” She sighed. “But I would never expect you to agree with it…”
“Were you mad at me this morning?”
“No. I couldn’t stay mad anyway. I can’t be mad at you for loving me, Kakashi…”
“I still think you deserve better. Rin deserved better. So much better…”
Sakura nodded. “But so do you, now let yourself be happy this time.” She squeezed his hand before he nodded softly.
“I came here today because I remember barely surviving mentally after Rin died, especially from my jutsu, even if it wasn’t my fault, her blood was on my hands…” He squeezed her hand, hard. “Minato-sensei was the reason I made it through that, and when he died… It was you three that brought me back, and at first it was just pure curiosity. But now you’re my family, my precious people, and I love you. I don’t know if I could survive losing that again.”
“You better not be blaming yourself for Sasuke again…”
Kakashi shook his head and glared at the ground. “No, not for this, Not for how far gone he is. I blame myself from not being able to stop him from leaving. Not for what… Not for how he is today.”
“You know, he won’t stop.”
“Neither will I.” Kakashi looked at her as they entered his apartment. “I will die protecting you before I ever let him take you from me unless it was of your own desires to be with him, not go be a martyr to save the village from his wrath at the cost of your happiness.”
Sakura went to open her mouth to argue against before snapping it back shut. She remembered Ino, Tsunade and Shizune telling her one time a long time ago.
When someone decides they will take care of us, because we absolutely refuse to do it ourselves, don’t fight it. Just let them, because it’ll be useless to fight it anyway, because they love you and won’t sit back and watch you destroy yourself.
One of these days, some hot ass shinobi is going to make you sit down and be cared for instead of being the one doing the caring, and you had better let him.
Sakura kissed him, wrapping her arms around his neck. She felt his strong hands grab her waist and hold her close. “I’ll be counting on it, cause someone has to, and I’d trust no one else but you…” She whispered into the kiss as he picked her up from the ground. “I love you, too…”
