I'm a bit into jealousy tropes so my question is how the ROs would react if MC was at a ball or festival type event and some noble was approaching MC flirting with them and trying to get with them. Both in the crushing stage as apposed to if they were in a relationship.

Chapter 7 + Ash Hangout Early Access is now Live! 🎉

Hey, guys! First of all, I'm so sorry for not being active here for the past month. I've been really sick and spent the latter half of January recovering and on bedrest. And as soon as I felt better, I decided to solely focus all my free time and energy on catching up on lost progress and finishing the update before the end of the month. And I did it! 😁

The update is now up for early access on both Patreon and Ko-Fi. Finally, we are starting to get into the ROs' first hangout sessions. Of course, to start us off, we'll have Ash's hangout session 😁This update adds around 31K of new words, bringing the total word count so far to around 356,701K words!

I've also implemented the autosave/reload function to each chapter, so you should be able to have some freedom to go back to the beginning of the chapter and try out different options 😉 Also added another skip-chapter point: Chapter 3.

The world is divided into two—the “normal humans” and the “powered humans”; people with mutations and abilities that put them above the rest.

It is unknown how the powered humans came to be but it started, one day, when a baby was born with gills on his neck—Case Zero. As the boy grew, so did his mutations—his hands and feet became webbed and it became clear how the boy was born to be in the water.

The next one was a girl—Case One, who was born with wings on her back, which only grew larger as she grew older. Soon, her wings grew so large it dragged on the floor. In a matter of years, her ability to fly and speed became even greater than planes and jets. A girl born to be in the skies.

What started with a baby every few months soon became a baby every month, to a baby every other week to a baby every week.

Today, 1 powered baby is born every 100,000 babies.

With the increasing number of powered humans, the governments of the world decided to implement the Powered Registration Act which aims to, as with normal human beings, register and regulate the powered humans. In line with the Act, the governments of the world created the PHSO - Powered Humans Statistics Office, the governing body solely for the powered humans, led by powered humans for powered humans.

With the emergence of the powered humans, a new occupation is created-heroes.

Registered and regulated by the government, heroes are employed by the PHSO to maintain order and peace while working together with the non-powered force.

Of course, when there are heroes, there are villains—powered and non-powered alike who do not agree with what they call “hero worship” given to heroes.

A never ending cycle of fights between good and evil, peace and chaos which span decades. Nothing new.

Of course, all of these do not concern you. You are not a hero nor are you a villain.

Miguel was the first person to come in during your opening day and has been your #1 supporter from day 1.

— going by the hero name “Torch,” Miguel has the ability to control and produce fire, able to use it for short-distance flight, shoot fireballs as well as turn his whole body aflame for a short period of time. 

— tall, at 188cm, with a muscular build (but not bodybuilder muscles) from years of training. Brown (kayumanggi) skin, black, wavy hair that reaches his ears and light brown eyes. All of Miguel’s clothes are made from a special thread created from his hair to ensure their resistance to his fire.

The Regular

Kahel [26 years old, they/them][ro]

— a regular customer, Kahel is one of your first customers. They’ve been coming to your cafe for the past 5 years almost daily, with no fail. Through the years, the two of you have formed a friendship. Despite your years of knowing them, you know almost nothing about Kahel’s past and what they actually do for work (they told you they’re a ‘writer’). You don’t know Kahel’s abilities, only that they have physical mutations.

— average height, at 170cm, with a thin build. Pale skin with long, straight hair they keep to their lower back and tied into a braid. Kahel often changes the color of their hair, so often, you don’t know their real hair color. Their eyes are a light gray, and their ears are pointed, like an elf’s ears.

The Captain

Cristina Solomon [34 years old, she/her][ro]

— the captain of the Sinagtala Police Force, Cristina is tasked in ensuring the peace and safety of the inhabitants of Sinagtala City. The youngest to ever hold the position of captain, Cristina holds deep confidence in her abilities and in the pride her colleagues have of her. In her 2 years since becoming captain, the number of crimes have decreased even further, to the point that other cities have called on her expertise and guidance.

— Cristina has the ability to produce shields and force fields which are able to withstand even a direct hit from a bomb. Cristina possesses amazing control of her abilities, even using them for maneuvering. Although powerful, the more shields she produces, the weaker they get until they’re barely stronger than a glass panel.

— tall height, at 178cm, with a thin but muscled build because of her training as a police officer. Brown (kayumanggi) skin and short, straight, dark brown hair she keeps in a bob, stopping just above her jaw. Cristina has dark, almost black, brown eyes and a beauty mark under her left eye.

The Part-timer

Lib Santos [20 years old, they/them]

— a college student who works part time for you. they’re very happy to work for your cafe because it’s the only one they applied to that’s able to accommodate their schedule. They’re able to attract small objects to themself, an ability they use in working.

— short, at 150cm, with a round build. Brown (kayumanggi) skin with freckles on their face. Round glasses hide their dark brown eyes. Their hair is short, a pixie cut, and dyed a light blue.

The Mayor

Penelope Pascual [45 years old, she/her]

— Sinagtala City’s mayor. Unlike past mayors that were personally chosen by Sinag, Penelope was voted for by the public. A well-known figure in the city, it was only a matter of time before Penelope was voted mayor. Penelope is able to control and manipulate air. She mainly uses it to allow herself flight while patrolling the city.

— tall, at 175cm, with a curvy build. Tan skin accentuated by her light brown eyes and long, straight dark brown hair usually tied in its tight bun.

Okay so in the soul stone war we have the option to lie about our age to a romance who's been flirting with us and annoying us by calling us kid, (we can choose to be a very young adult btw) and we have the option to mess with them since we look so young, by telling them something like "oh yeah I'm still technically a kid but hey not like you care right?😘" they look horrified and start turning green until we start laughing our a** off saying "you should have seen your face! Serves you right for calling me kid!😈" so question how would each romance react to that kind of prank (assuming we look younger than we really are). Dunno I just find it absolutely hilarious and cathartic when we can be a total a**hole right back at our lovely ro's for teasing us so much. Sassy mc for the win!!!!

Preface: All personalities dont really matter in terms of ingame roleplaying. I do want to implement something like, making sure to not crack a joke at the wrong time and having everyone pissed at you for doing so, but thats an idea for now.

Amina: First impression, Friendly. After some time, Carefree. Homegirl is tired of keeping the facade up. Be funny to steal her heart away from her brain!

Astrid: Carefree when you first meet her, then Friendly. Being overly friendly at first would probably hesitate because she'd think it was out of pity. She cracks jokes, and would appreciate jokes that isnt mean spirited or malicious.

Cheris: Imperious first, then Friendly. Cheris wants someone dependable, and nice.

Edward: His is a more weird one. First impression, probably Imperious and then Stoic later. I really think he would resonate really well with someone who pushes themselves out of their comfort zone out of duty.

Lucina: She would devour all our personalities. Imperious is the noble prince, Stoic the quiet prince, Carefree the funny prince, and Friendly the happy prince. Would all be something she expects of us as her fantasy fills in the blanks for her.

Mary: Friendly or Carefree. Mary only wants us to be happy, and doesn't really like that we take so much upon ourselves.

Max: First impression, he would be the opposite of Lucina. He'd hate the fuck outta whatever we do. Friendly? How fucking dare you pretend youre harmless. Carefree? You can still laugh after what you did? Stoic? Oh boo hoo, lookie me, im fucking sad and dont like talking, serves you right! Imperious? There's the fucking princess I imagined, pretending to be better than all us regular folk.

Nysthe: Stoic (for mystery factor), and then Imperious. Nysthe has high expectations for us, and she'd prefer an MC who can deliver and act accordingly so. Plus she is the attacker, she'd want to bring down your walls and make you hers.

Veriel: Friendly first for first impressions, and then Imperious. Veriel also has high expectations he places on us. He really thinks and believes that youre Argent's future, and will really appreciate an MC that takes their role as Crown Prince/Princess seriously.

Voryn: He values approachability foremost, so probably Carefree or Friendly first, and stay that way. He really dislikes authority, so Imperious would be his least favorite, but he really likes bringing introverts out and including them so Stoic would be quite alright with him.

Zera: Friendly first, and then...he wouldnt care. If you make it (you will) through the first impressions and he begins to like you, he wont care what your personality is so long as your actions are what he approves. By then he'll be so in love with your princess that he'll just be happy to be around you.

Regarding the January 7th Demo Update

The demo has been updated! The first 001 POV scenes and all of the ball routes are completed. (Small changes will probably roll in alongside feedback) Small changes have also been made throughout the story in preparation for a new way the demo will handle personality.

First we will prioritize working through the Lab and Ari reunion throughout January. This will include new armor options and numerous choices that will influence the soldiers accompanying you. It will also have a ton of interactions between the ro's and might maaaaaaybe start to sprinkle in some poly energy...

After that, I will implement a brand new personality system that I've been developing. Inspired by interactive fiction like "Kingdoms and Empires," it will make the story more immersive. This system aims to address out-of-character moments that occasionally arise and will significantly impact how your Operative navigates the events already available in the demo.

I will need your help to identify parts of the story that require extra attention for proper implementation of this system WHEN IT IS IMPLIMENTED LATER. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy the update. We have a ton of content just around the corner.

Changes to the Main Character - Myrk Mire

Brace yourselves kids, this is going to be a fair amount to go through. While I don't think I'm giving away any big story spoilers, do treat reading more with some caution if you want to experience the story completely blind. And do also bear in mind that none of these changes are implemented yet and won't be for some time. If you like the story as is, by all means go and enjoy it. I'll be uploading a new demo, not replacing the old one, when it's ready.

All that out the way, let's talk choice fiction MC's and their difficulties in fixed narrative cannon.

Let's get this out the way first and foremost. You will still be able to customise your Main Character and their offspring in all the ways you can currently. I'm not removing any of that choice from you. You'll also be able to pick who your Main Character becomes attached to. However, this is where things will need to change a bit.

Previously our romantic options were all single and ready to mingle and remained so until the player directed their Main Character into a relationship with them. Open season, so to speak. What will now (future demo) take place is the Main Character will begin early to favour one of the eight relationship (romantic or platonic) options, and as said relationship grows, the remaining seven will begin their own journeys with other characters.

Which other characters? Well, here's where the real fun begins.

Our RO's aren't the only ones gaining 'siblings'.

There'll be five adult characters trundling their way into Aldmirham in the hafest of 822 DT, and the beginning of the story will take place at the very start of winter, through to blostma (spring).

The Main Character will be one of these five adults, and their dependent will be one of the three children with them.

Some of you may have noticed a slight mathematical flaw in this. I have eight relationship options and five new folks. Well, you don't need to form romantic relationships to live a happy and fulfilling life, and neither do the RO's.

Let's get a run-down on our travelling group, shall we?

Ænidym Bécencnol (NB) - An old friend of Marrin/Marryn/Marren and Sumara (previously Zephora), they joined shortly after the events that led to the MC first travelling with the group (what ever those events may be), in the town of Þeófcrecca on the western shore of Crawshire. They're a carpenter by trade, apprenticing with a shipwright in the town. They're supportive, grounded, and often the voice of reason when their companions need a reminder of common sense.

Ehwan Bécencnol (M) - Ænidym's young cousin, orphaned after his mother drowned in an accident out at sea while fishing. He's quiet, distrustful of strangers, and has a deep and abiding fear of deep water. He's a year or so older than the MC's child and is obsessively protective of them.

Azgoá Ménastaþs (F) - Orignally from the realm of Þinda, she took apprenticeship with the iron smiths of Crawburh before meeting up with the others, and deciding to travel east with them, hoping to learn from the smithing guilds in the rest of the realm. Others often think she has a funny accent, and she delights in teaching the children foul comebacks in her native tongue.

Ielfetu Wischam (M) - A basket weaver by trade, Ielfetu joined the group with his daughter, Basjá, after Basjá's mother became violent towards them both. He's good at what he does, but struggles to see that, relying on his new friends and confidants to pick him up and set him on his feet. Originally from the smaller, tamer marshes of Wýscanwisc, he's comfortable in the Mire, and hopes the group will stay after the winter is through.

Basjá Wischam (F) - Ielfetu's daughter, she's the youngest of the group's children, though only by a few months. Tall for her age, and bold, she's often chosen as the leader among the children, though her overconfidence often leads them all into trouble. She's anxious about her father, often feeling like she has to protect him from those who might bully him or push him around, this well-meaning support rarely ends well.

Aranor Halshlinc (M) - The newest member of the group, he first joined them when he was still legally a child, seeking to escape a bad situation he'd found himself in, with muddy legal ramifications. He's spent every day since this incident trying to make it up to them, taking on far more dog's body work than he should, often exhausting himself. He has a good heart, but a limited appreciation for long term consequences, and his past is never far behind him.

Now, I'm not telling you who ends up connecting with who, that'd be spoilers.

So this is our crew of travelling misfits, here's to the shenanigans when they meet our resident band of misfits in Aldmirham! The town won't know what's hit it.

Why do this? Well, it means when the story of Myrk Mire touches the fixed narrative story, I have more points to weave connections with, more people to mention or name-drop, and tbh more people to hide the MC behind without having to strongly define who they are. I'm not going to be able to keep the MC ambiguous forever, but I hope I can create a strong enough sense of community within the story that readers still feeling comfortable when the MC of Myrk Mire does make their eventual appearance because the family around them remains the same.

I haven't drawn anything this year-- oh but hmm, I could do a quick edit, here -

Tadah! For anyone who hasn't already seen it, we got those 50 reblogs to make Warden shirtless! A pure version without the christmas lights went up yesterday, just scroll down my blog a bit or check out the #ro: warden hashtag.

I'm pleased with how much mileage I'm already getting from this picture, ha.

Anyway.

Seems like I'm gonna be focused on writing new scenes and drawing expressions for a while. They're some of the more tedious tasks for me, so I'll certainly be looking for every opportunity to do other things on the side - like coding.

Today I've decided that the LI sprites should have their eyebrows on a separate layer from the rest of their face, to offer me the greatest amount of variety in creating new expressions - and I've come up with a naming system for it, too!

I'm looking forward to implementing this. Eyebrow shapes have much, much less variety compared to mouth shapes, so I might even finish drawing every possible eyebrow for every LI sometime soon. I've already gotten a strong start with Warden and Mia's eyebrows.

Speaking of, I did turn in more expressions over on Ko-Fi!

I'm realizing that in the set dedicated to Dia, Warden and Mia have the same mouth shape on the upper right side... A fascinating subconscious decision on my part.

Outside of art, I did write... once. Er, it went pretty okay. I'm usually the biggest hater of my first drafts.

I think my goal is gonna be to show off the abilities of all the characters as equally as I can; Warden and Jade have had their time to shine (during the job fair and flying MC home, respectively), and I think MC, Griffin, and Mia are gonna be queued up next.

I'll put the rest under a cut for potential spoilers and further rambling - as always, if you don't see the cut, make sure to check out my blog directly!

I have a good idea of what I wanna do with Griffin (it may or may not involve obliterating your rent debt, and I may or may not have written about that in the first-draft-I-don't-hate).

I've been thinking that this scene would involve a change of clothes btw, and did some fashion concepts for Griffin that I also don't hate;

I'm not super sure what I'm gonna do for Mia's eventual ~special show-off scene~, but I'm sure it will come to me.

For MC, I want to show off her relationship with the city, and showcase how qualified she is for the job in a low-key way. I recently discussed with a friend how Men in Black is a huge source of inspiration for me... Y'all know the scene where Will Smith has his interview and did things differently from all the other candidates?? I kinda wanna capture that vibe...!

And ah... I think that's about it, Herotome-wise.

Wudge-wise, honesty hour - I've had ssssome mild health concerns this year.

I don't want to go into detail; I want to say it's been like... nothing life threatening, thankfully, but a lot of small physical inconveniences that pile up and make it harder to concentrate.

I did rest a lot last week so no worries. <3 It's just that parts of my body have been weird and annoying, and I think it's helpful to acknowledge that the flesh prison can be a weird and annoying place. But I value it! And I'm doing my best to take care of it. Health comes first, etc, etc.

With this new year, I hope you guys take care of yourselves as best as you can, too. The person who's most qualified to take care of you is you!!!

Will there be options in game to just... Not be very much into conversations? To play as a stoic, strong and silent type even without the Mute option?

Want to see the ROs fawning over their partner who speaks with their actions, especially knowing that the Hound can and Will destroy with their combat prowess. A combo that terrifies everyone who is not RO (because they're busy drooling).

That is something I would like to implement. Options for MC to not be mute, but just talk rarely, and in general communicate little with their words.

Be it in a more shy way, or in a stoic way.

I will need to go over the existing dialogue options to see what can I add, but I very much would like to implement your suggestion!

I'd apologize for the nsfvv ask but uh i guess it's en vogue right now!

In regards to sex, will there be variables/options? If not that's totally cool, it's already a fun treat, just curious as to whether they're more like set scenes or a little more interactive.

I'm planning on having the player decide whether they're a little more dominant or like their ro to take over, except during the first time with jax bc he's pretty set in his preferences right now and how fast you get to the actual sex. some like to skip the banter/foreplay beforehand, which is fine, so I'll add that option. another thing I'm going to implement is to decide whether to have penetrative sex or not. not every scene will end that way from the beginning bc sometimes oral sex or just hands stuff is enough and pretty hot!

I'm not sure yet if I'll add different tones you can choose, but for example sex with royal tends to be a little more playful than the others.

aside from that, it's pretty set right now!

i see your ROs (including G and Ardent but MAINLY Ardent lbr) and, for them, i am going to make the sweetest, reserved and shy and easily anxious, wet lil meow-meow of a MC. i think it's funny seeing G and Ardent dealing with conflicts with a MC, confronting a MC that is just going "Mmhm" with teary eyes as they bunch up their shirt in their hands, maybe even involuntarily flinches when someone's voice is too loud. i just find that kind of "I feel bad for yelling at you (which makes me madder)" energy really comedic for some reason, just someone who won't match their upset energy and instead just looks like a kicked puppy the whole time they are being chastised. i just think its funny in a "haha what an asshole, youre falling in love, you feel bad, that's what you gET" way if that makes sense? idk if the choices you implement will allow that, but know it is what i am headcanoning at all times as i read more of this game. i cant wait 💞

Glad that you feel that way anon! There are going to be several ways to play it, I want to ensure that players can portray the MC that they want. From how you can dress to how you act in our out of the relationship.

Talon’s End Devlog: January 2024

Oh boy, what a month... Between my whole family getting sick right at the start of the year (everyone's feeling better now!) and then being busy with other irl responsibilities, it hasn't been as productive a month for TE as I hoped. The good news is that I've got the code ready to implement multiple pronoun sets in the next update, so if you're one of the people who requested that in the survey, it's coming relatively soon! I have the festival update tentatively planned for early spring, but that depends on how busy I end up being irl the next few months! I did also go through and tag asks to make them a little easier to navigate. Tag navigation is now here for anyone who's into that!

No monthly(-ish) extra this time around, but I'm hoping to get back to them next month. So far, I've stuck to spoiler-free things for the extras, but snippets and playable short stories that happen post-game are an option. These wouldn't spoil any big reveals, but they would spoil the ROs' personalities a bit. It would open up the options for possible extras quite a bit (especially for some romance-oriented ones), but I know some people like to avoid spoilers of any kind. Since I'd like for most people to be able to read the extras right away if they wish, please help me decide by voting below!
