Metafiction au

What if every member of Shen Yuan's family is a character. Specifically, a backup modern version of vital supporting characters to get loaded in if something goes wrong in the story

Shen Jiu is one of his older brothers, and his story is a royal court political intrigue without cultivation but with cool martial arts and assassination techniques. He's a mentor type that forces the weak protagonist to become strong enough to protect his loved ones and stand up against abusive authority figures.

Shen Yuan is meant for PIDW, but as an inspiration to overcoming personal challenges and circumstances to be the best version of yourself for Lou Binghe, who must resist all corrupting influences

The other siblings can be the modern version of whenever Shens you want

The system f*ed up and they were born in the wrong stories. PIDW progresses to the end, then the system realizes what happened, panics, and shoves PIDW!Shen Jiu soul into his modern body, alongside the modern Shen Jiu. It rewinds all the way back to when LBH is 14 and puts Modern!Shen Yuan in his brother's body but his original destined story, kicking off SVSSS as we know it.

The Shen Yuan in Shen Jiu's story is long dead and his soul has dissolved into the reincarnation cycle. No magic and a habit for self sacrifice is a bad mix. So the system grabs PIDW!Shen Jiu's soul and drops him in the world he was supposed to be in, still in Shen Yuan's body

Shen Yuan's body is... not great. Rather than "dying from incurable illness" he has a medley of less extreme but dangerous without medicine issues. Weak joints, asthma, bad immune system, poor circulation. All things PIDW's cultivation could support or heal to the point of function. But Shen Jiu, in his hardcore assassination world, is screwed... unless he can get his original body in the assassination world. Shen Jiu is seeking SVSSS with a very simple request and a giant revelation for everyone there

I'm making a persona 5 au of svsss (au in that it was the modern world that was the au, and sy brought something along with him), and I'm having a lot of fun with it!

Sy dies the same way as in canon, but this time as the leader/a member of the Chinese branch of phantom thieves (when and how a Chinese branch was made can be handwaved). He's a fellow wild card, a fool arcana, he's got third eye and a fully realised but unawakened persona.

When he awakes in sqq's body, he starts on as canon, but starts to notice strange fluctuations on qj that indicate the presence of the meta verse - and not only that, but a palace. The system notices the mysterious appearance of a new program it can't delete - the meta nav.

Without the key words, however, Sqq can't get in. He can't find who it belongs to, nor what it might be. One thing is for certain though: lbh cannot find out. The blackened protagonist with free reign of the meta verse? An undoubtedly powerful persona of his own?? It'd be the breakdown incidents all over again! He wouldn't stand a chance!

It takes a lot of arguing with the system about narrative directions and plot holes for it to not direct him to the nearest ripple in reality. In dreams, igor agrees (he has a lot to say about his new situation, but Sqq kinda ignores it).

Then, one day, he finds a fluctuation strong enough to fit a human, and slips right through, his scifi fantasy ninja outfit appears in flames, and he is faced with the distortion of qing jing peak - roiling dark clouds, bamboo towering impossibly far over his head, brown leaves thick on the ground and a thunderous gong ringing from somewhere down the path.

A coliseum.

Screams ring out, metal clashes, beasts roar.

And standing in front of the metal grill gate, tall and bedazzled in riches and more unmarked than shen yuan has ever seen him, is shen qingqiu.

What is persona if not themes of the inner self and fighting literal inner demons and learning to love, both yourself and others, and overcoming tragedy?

There are some things I'm still unsure of, but I really want to explore the idea of the ghost of sj lingering on, still haunting the narrative and how that affects everyone. Normally, when a palace ruler is killed, their palace crumbles as well, but with Sqq still walking around and the systems intervention with his soul (having not died then in canon) the original goods wouldn't be fully gone.

The soul is! It's not sjs ghost, but rather his shadow. Real souls cannot live in the meta verse. But with the real deal gone, sy would be unable to affect him in order to make his way through the palace to the treasure the way a normal heist would go. Instead, he'd have to learn about sj himself, uncovering secrets and dispelling rumours. As the new Sqq, he would have to change his perspective and uncover the story behind the scum villain in order to progress. Remove the distorted perspective from himself.

Mini bosses would be a bad faith interpretation of yqy from sjs perspective, qiu haitang as she was at the manor. Enemies would be the coliseum guards and jailers, the shadow populace qj disciples in general misery, often forced to fight each other or monsters as sj watches on from the top seat. Nyy would sit with him. Poor shadow lbh would be a prime gladiator slave, suffering constant defeat. Sin: envy. I really want to focus on the fact he is both abuser and survivor, and his 'I suffered, thus so should you' thing. A bit like p5 strikers in that.

The plot would be basically Sqq handling both the canon events of svsss and also his investigation into sj, tracing paper trails of slave documents, hunting for potential secrets in the bamboo house, learning about the ghost backstab incident from lqg (which leads him to airplane), building up the courage to go down and talk to the brothel ladies, carefully teasing bits of history out of yqy. Also beating up shadows with a jojo stand and a .7 calibre sniper rifle he can fire like an automatic in his spare time. (if you don't know, persona lets you hold shadows at gunpoint for cash and items, but also flirt, threaten and bribe. Also you can ambush them and sometimes collect them like pokemon it's fun.)

The final battle would have the palace ruler sj transform into his final form (I'm thinking something with chains) but there absolutely has to be a human duel for the first phase, xiu ya to xiu ya. The surrendering of the crown would end in a hug, and sj performing a sincere but bastardised version of the peak lord crowning ceremony before he dissipates, and the coliseum starting to crumble and burn. As for the treasure... In the distorted world, an elaborate peak lord ceremonial crown, in the real world, an old, worn hair ribbon.

If I wrote it, I'd probably keep it shorter. Just the one palace, maybe sqh awakens his persona by virtue of being squirrelly and getting on his last nerve™. I'm thinking of the 'what don't I dare when it comes to you?!' because if that isn't a persona awakening scene I don't know what is. Conquering the bamboo palace would free qj from some 'unnamable' dark cloud and just in time to push lbh in the abyss (the palace time limit bring that sjs spirit would cruelly push lbh into the abyss rather than sy doing it (and being kinder about it)).

If it was longer, more persona users would awaken, despite sqq's best attempts. Liu qingge, ning yingying, shang qinghua obviously, gongyi xiao, zhuzhi lang maybe (they'd both live). A real motley crew. There'd be more palaces along the journey, each with it's own deadline - old palace master, lbh (though his palace would have the gimmick of being actually xin mo's), tianlang Jun, qiu haitang. Sj would still be the overarching palace, this time being the only one without a deadline maybe, and the story would end with a 'not sj' reveal for the new phantom thieves (with a side order of 'we already know and care for you anyway').

A sequel would be shorter: sy visits qiong ding for the first time since its all calmed down and realises that the distortions of a palace are still there, that they weren't a product of the bamboo palace. Yqy has a palace (because you can't tell me that man is mentally well). For a side of angst maybe the sy reveal was more open secret for the need to knows rather than strictly 'whoever witnessed two identical versions of Sqq trying to kill each other' and Yqy develops the palace as a result of not taking that well.

In comparison to the others, Yqy is the strongest cultivator alive, has been sitting on a soul deep distortion and trauma for decades since childhood, recently went through a heartbreaking reveal pointed directly at every single one of those issues, and oh yeah, has his soul directly bound to xuan su.

His palace's difficulty level is nightmarish. The corrupt version of the lingxi caves is a terrifying subterranean crawl through blood soaked caverns and bottomless pits. The gimmick is that near everything wants to suck your soul out. The only saving grace is that distortions are not inherently malicious, and they manage to lever that to their advantage. Unlike the others, yqys palace does not focus on him abusing his power over others - quite the opposite, in fact.

Through murals, echoing voices, and what sy and sqh remember, they piece together his own heart demons. It's scary - outwardly, the sect leader is fine, clear headed, going about his days just fine. The bloodied caverns he sees the world through tell a different story. To gain access it's a long process of easing out stories, working through his deeply ingrained self reliance, helping him work up to confessing the truth of xuan su. Not only to xiao jius shrine, but to his closest martial siblings as well, allowing him to be vulnerable and protected as he never has been.

But Yqy follows them into the palace, curious as to why they visit his peak every day. It's unstable, very dangerous for a person to meet their shadow, but it's too late. Yqy meets his shadow self, small and furious and stuck through with a thousand swords he uses to his advantage, and does the impossible.

A palace ruler awakens a persona.

Even as a trained group, the life force powered xuan su boosted shadow is too strong - they've already failed to defeat it once. Yue qingyuan, breathing grief like air but finally ready to heal, stands for himself. Rips off the smiling mask he's been hiding behind since he was five years old and freshly a big brother. His persona is magnificent.

And just in time, too, because, uh, turns out the meta verse is the systems doing, this time. And it's evil. I'm thinking a giant brainwashing vr-esque super computer. And they defeat it with the power of friendship and also lucifer.

SVSSS AU Idea: System Error 416

as appeared to me at work: svsss au where the system admins fuck up royally, and now Shen Yuan and shen jiu's memories have merged and also oh shit hes only 17

so - Shen Yuan has been flagged for 'transmigration’ since birth - more a return to his original world, which is highly unstable and has been collapsing in on itself and restarting over and over bc LBH keeps bringing about the end of the world. admins think Shen Jiu is a keystone in fixing that, so they tracked his soul and flagged it for a return to see if that fixed anything

problem: admins did not expect him to be born ill. they were going to contrive an accident if he didn't die before 35, sure, but they didn't bother to have everything set up, thinking they'd do it when he turned 20

Shen Yuan dies at 17, not having ever read PIDW

the admins are freaking. they cram his soul into Shen Jiu's body during a qi deviation and cross their fingers

sadly - the memory system they had set up expected a minimum of 20 years of memory to add into the new body - when it hit 17 and ran out of data it started to break down and look for more memory data outside of its assigned incarnation, combining 17 years of Shen Jiu memories with Shen Yuan memories.

their final mistake: because of the rushed, panicked nature of this, the system they sent never even received the world data package - the 'set events' needed to keep the world designation? the system doesn't know what they are. the system only has the basic 'full knowledge of wikipedia' datapack which. is staggeringly unhelpful

“I have no clue what’s going on here. You?” “Absolutely not, sorry host”

now, cut to Shen Jiu's poor cultivation base which has basically had it's soul torn out, then crammed back in but its only 17. so, it just. changes to match.

Shen Jiu/Yuan wakes up on Qian Cao peak with Yue Qi looming over him, like 3 months after he saved the prick at the immortal alliance conference and then was told, through his lack of explanation, what YQY never looked back once he made it to Cang Qiong and got him into the sect out of pity

he punches him in the fact and jumps out the window

anyway - the AU from there is the system and Shen Jiu/Yuan making friends and trying to work out how to be a peak lord, while insisting no, actually, Shen Jiu/Yuan is 20 at which time he'd already been named succeeding disciple and therefore is totally qualified to be peak lord

also Shen Jiu/Yuan finding out his name is Shen Qingqiu and declaring if anyone calls him that they are going to run laps around the mountain until they puke

hes an even mix of Shen Jiu's sass and ability to bullshit, and SY's much more trusting nature and kindness, unless its LQG or YQY. then he's Shen Jiuthrough and through.

Ming Fan and Ning Yingying were, in this au, already Shen Jiu's personal disciples, so he keeps them and adds LBH (he can tell he must have hated the kid as an adult, but living a nice modern life is like free therapy and he realises he was 100% projecting and tells LBH that and appologises)

his personal disciples are basically just his buddies here. hes only like a year and a half older than ming fan. he likes to pretend hes like, a parental figure, but no, hes just a big brother. his personal disciples are the only people on the mountain who know he's actually only 17, he tells them he used to be a 'servant' before he started cultivating so LBH has no excuse, and MF should stop being so high and mighty

his personal disciples get a really outstanding knowledge of science and maths bc SY's modern education and the system's full wikipedia download really come through

anyway! i just like this AU bc its mostly NYY, MF and LBH hissing rabidly at YQY and LQG while Shen Jiupretends he doesn't see it

Modern AU + Survival-Dating Simulator

This was set in a modern AU where Shen Jiu had a fight with Yue Qingyuan and had somehow ended up in a dating simulation game. I don’t remember if he died before he transmigrated or just woke up one day in that world

The setting of the in a high school or university where the students he’s with are the other SVSSS characters. One of his goals here was to survive because the many characters are in love with him, and they’re all kind of psychotic and yandereish. Every time he dies, he resets into the first day

One of them was Mu Qingfang who killed him in the middle of cafeteria when he decided to say the truth about him being in a game. Mu Qingfang did not take it well when he realized that the man he’s talking with was not his original Shen Jiu and promptly killed him right after

He also got pushed down the stairs and died. A couple of groupies tied him to a chair with barbed wires and beat him until he died. Surviving Day 1 resulted into 10 or so of his deaths from what I remember

The Huan Hua Palace master also plays a key role in this. Apparently, he sponsors(?) Shen Jiu or something since Shen Jiu is driven back to that guy’s place after his school ends Additionally, Luo Binghe lives in a secret room under Shen Jiu’s room and Shen Jiu needs to visit or give him his food or else Luo Binghe kills him too

Shang Qinghua also gave him an app that helps him navigate their school. The app was made by Shang Qinghua too— Shang Qinghua wants to help Shen Jiu more, but Mobei-jun stops him from interfering since Shang Qinghua could be hurt

Another thing I remember is that the System asked him to choose between two options at the start of the ‘game’. The one he picked was that he won’t feel pain when he’s near to the point of dying

Hi! :) I was reading your post about SQH in TUT and it got me thinking. Since this version also wrote SVSSS, when he transmigrates does he realize his "dream" was real? Also, you hinted that he recognizes SY as the same person who transmigrated into SQQ, so now I'm wondering if he tells SY that, and how SY would react to learning he's the protagonist of SVSSS in another universe. I just love thinking about how meta this could potentially get, haha.

(TUT ch1 - Excerpt)

You’re right. There is a lot of meta potential with older!Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky being the MXTX equivalent in this AU—or, rather, I like to imagine him growing up to be the Stephen King equivalent of modern day China with a prolific portfolio of written works (novels and short stories, and extras). In canon, he churned out a great number of words per chapter and in a speedy amount of time! Do you guys know how miraculous that is, as a writer? I envy him so much! To be able to churn out that much content in a short amount of time, and in a scheduled regimen, is amazing! That’s basically my angle having written this into the prologue of TUT. That’s partially the reason why I wrote ch1. I liked the idea of paying homage to SVSSS and saying that it’s an actual book series in TUT universe that Airplane wrote (as funny as the idea would be, I wasn’t about to let SY be the one to write it, lol, for intellectual property reasons since the PIDW characters belong to Airplane, which would necessitate SY changing names and character appearances if he published what we know as irl SVSSS, so the best I can give SY is saying he wrote his own PIDW fanfic which basically launched his novelist career because he’d realized, hey, I actually have a knack for writing and the ever so spiteful I feel like practically every writer has had this thought before: fine, if I don’t see what I want to read, then I’ll write it myself!)

TUT (Meta) Spoilers

I personally love meta. If I’m to be writing a lovestory to SVSSS, there will be attempts at meta thrown into TUT. And this is one of them:

Airplane did “dream” about canon SVSSS. He basically “dreamt” about his favorite black powder fan, Peerless Cucumber

changing events of Airplane’s biggest regret Proud Immortal Demon Way. (As a writer, it embarrasses me to read my old writing. So I imagine it could be the same for Airplane.) As an author, Airplane recognized what he dreamt had potential to be a commercial success as a danmei transmigration story so basically every time he woke up, he would write pieces of what he remembers in a dream journal when the memory was fresh in his brain. It also allowed Airplane the opportunity to show his readers through the perspective of SY! Shen Qingqiu what Airplane had originally wanted to write, but integrated in a way that blends seamlessly into the reading experience. He would’ve thought it was a bit weird and strange that his brain dreamt about his past critic—whom he’d considered a small celebrity in the PIDW forums back then—aka his anti-fan-turned-accomplished-novelist in the writing industry, so he felt embarrassed that his unconscious brain must have thought very highly of the man.

So Airplane omitted any mention of Peerless Cucumber from the final draft of SVSSS (if he mentioned both “Shen Yuan” and “Peerless Cucumber,” then even SY would be like, Hey, wait one moment....). This detail will be included in a later chapter, but did you know the name “Shen Yuan” has come up in other works? Let’s ignore the variations on the Chinese written characters for the name “Shen Yuan.” There was the evil older brother character Shen Yuan from The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage, a side character named Shen Yuan from a C-drama (I think he was an old minister?), and there’s even an irl visual artist named Shen Yuan. Shen Yuan (Shen Garden) is also a famous romantic garden in Shaoxing, known for the love story between Lu You and Tang Wan.

Basically “Shen Yuan” in itself is not a particularly uncommon name in China (imo I would not say it’s super popular either). So when SY saw his name mentioned once or twice in Airplane’s SVSSS—aka rebooted PIDW—during his read-through, he was like, Huh, what a strange coincidence. And then dismissed it as circumstantial and thought nothing of seeing his name come up in a cutsleeve novel as the new protagonist, haha. It’s like a book written by Anne Rice; one of the titles coincidentally has the same name as mine. Now, obviously the book and main character is not based or inspired by me; I just coincidentally share the same name. If I see books which have characters with my same first name, generally I like to read them and sometimes even collect them for my bookshelves. Because there’s something just so fun and interesting about seeing your own name in a fictional piece of work.

There’s also meta joke potential about Airplane dreaming of himself being transmigrated into the cannon fodder Shang Qinghua and seeing the romantic miscommunications between the younger version of himself (his self-insert essentially) and the fictional Mobei jūn character. I can certainly say seeing such dreams would make Airplane question his sexuality and awaken something dormant in him, haha. He’d realize he might not be not as straight as he thought he was, if his brain was capable of dreaming of SY!SQQ being crushed on by LBH, and SQH being crushed on by MBJ and essentially following MBJ around calling him “my king” this and “my king” that. He’ll be sweating bullets when he meets this world’s version of MBJ, because Airplane will definitely remember how the younger Self-Insert version of himself acted toward MBJ in the SVSSS world. (It’s the classic “Just because I dreamed about it happening doesn’t mean it’ll happen here, right? ...Right? Cucumber brother, you’re a fortuneteller! Please check our eight characters for me! I have to know my marriage compatibility with Mobei jūn!”)

In a later chapter, there will be the reveal where Airplane tells Shen Yuan that he “dreamt” of a universe where a younger version of Shen Yuan—having choked on mantou (馒头) (paying homage to the donghua) or just being transmigrated in general after raging at a younger ASTTS’s writing (paying homage to the books)—transmigrated into the Shen Qingqiu we know from SVSSS who married Bing mèi. Because I think it will be hilarious when TUT’s SY finds out about the true source of Airplane’s inspiration, and he’ll naturally freak out over the fact that this is the very same Bing gē from Airplane’s Bing-gē vs Bing-mèi extra and that he’s essentially somehow stumbled on the same path as the alternative younger SY!SQQ “from Airplane’s imagination.” I will leave this open to interpretation if this does show up (it’s just an idea I’m playing with) but I might hint that there might be a higher power at play which allowed Airplane a peek into another universe—which manifested as his dreams.

I very much like this dynamic (we might see this exchange, verbatim, in a future chapter in TUT):

SY/ LBH —> He gave him a disdainful gaze.

Airplane cried inwardly at the oppression and the feeling of being wronged.

Haha, none of this is really Airplane’s fault^ though. It’s a fun parallel and if I’m still motivated when we get to the wedding and consummation chapter, we might see an epilogue where SY and Bing gē from TUT meets SY!SQQ and Bing mèi maybe. Because I think it’ll be funny with the two LBHs getting into a shouting/ fighting match about who has the “superior Shen Yuan” while the two SYs just shake their heads at their silly husbands (and potentially TUT’s SY, as the older party, can impart his fortunetelling wisdom and advice to SY!SQQ).

Personally I can’t wait when we get to those chapters, because I know it’ll be entertaining to write, haha. Personally TUT is a fun project because there’s just so much meta potential that can be incorporated and I have a lot of fun imagining the scenarios.

The Novelists’ First Impressions

The first impression SY and Airplane will have of each other will be fun. Because in their perspective, written in my notes it’s essentially like:

(Airplane seeing SY):

His first reaction was shock. Shock because the mere mortal he used to be could not conceive so much charisma being emitted by this guy.

This is definitely a man who had put all of his stats into CHARISMA.

(SY seeing Airplane):

He's suspiciously good looking in ways that normal people are not.

Ah, the Cucumberplane friendship in TUT is going to be so much fun. Not only are these two older souls who transmigrated (both are mid-aged in this universe), they’re both accomplished novelists in their own right in the writing industry. Which means with these two being celestial beings, there’s so many clichés we can playfully poke fun at.

It also makes me laugh because imagine being SY, and seeing a guy (mortal!Airplane) who exudes the same energy as these two imperial princes GIFs:

Ooh, interesting! I’m guessing this is distinct from bingqiu, since I already tackled that one. I assume it uses non-transmigration shen yuan? So I can tell you that the biggest downside is that I’ve put very minimal thought into this ship before now, but let’s see what we get!

Downsides:

My lack of interest in this ship is... a lot drive by the fact that I’m rarely looking for an opportunity to have less fantasy in my stories, and most bingyuan I’ve seen takes place in a modern setting :X

It’s not a dealbreaker, and like, for example Iove the yi city coffee shop au, but fantasy-story-with-less-fantasy is almost never something I will seek out, it’s something I have to be persuaded into trying. I do love the silly, questionably-constructed universe of PIDW, especially with the conceit that it was constructed by Shang Qinghua, which I can identify with as an author who is sometimes forced into worldbuilding. The modern world? I live there, I don’t dislike it, but it’s a very familiar environment, while ancient fantasy china is very novel to me.

And honestly, I get much less invested in binghe and shen qingqiu/shen yuan without that ‘oh boy, my teacher who i want to please more than anything stopped hating me and started loving me instead.’ Binghe’s damage and the way that his damage affects the way he interacts with the people in my life is one of my favorite, FAVORITE parts of svsss, and dropping a shen yuan into his life after those formative childhood years... it’s just not going to have the same OOMPH as the canon body stealing situation.

Upsides:

Now, you can get some really fascinating aus working with this situation, ones that had plain never occurred to me until someone presented it as a bingyuan scenario. Portal fantasies for binghe to show up in the modern world are fine, but don’t grip me as much of some of the more inventive ones. Two specific fics that pop out off the top of my head are feynite’s homemaker au one-shot (binghe exists in the modern world.... as well as his extended demon family, which interferes with his desire to be a nice quiet house husband), and pandaflower’s great and terrible oz series (binghe has been ruling the world for a very time, and is not terribly.... balanced, then shen yuan is born into the world, and binghe thinks he recognizes his old shizun reincarnated)

Those are both wild! I never would have thought of them myself, because honestly, aus are not typically my forte, but they are delicious. WIth the feynite one-shot, you get a bingyuan dynamic with a very bingmei flavor to it, and in the pandaflower series, binghe is very bingge, and it’s delicious and tense. Not having shen yuan as a fish out of water trying to integrate himself into a new place does take away some things that I like a lot about the original canon, but it introduces some really lovely new character dynamics to play with, and gives you a lot of room to explore.

And... oh........

Anon, I may have accidentally lied to you.

‘I’ve put very minimal thought into this ship’, I type, as I alt+tab over to my writing window, where I returned to working on (one of) my bingyuan wip(s) this morning.

Okay, yeah, I’ve got... 3.5 bingyuan aus (in one of them it’s not a good situation, but his original marriage was with a bingge, which went..... badly). Now, most of these are aus-of-aus situations, and explaining them is probably more words than I want to put into this ask meme, but like..... ‘I’ve put very minimal thought into this ship’ jfc

My main priority in these is that I love shen jiu, deeply, despite his many, many flaws, and his death breaks my heart. First au! Qijiu is a thing, Shen Yuan shows up mysteriously, lost and sick, dressed in modern clothing, and looking very much like Xiao Jiu as a child. He’s adopted into their family despite Strong protests from Shen Jiu, and then Shen Jiu gets attached. Second au! Binghe (bingge lite) is working on building his harem, and one of his new husbands is a certain Sha Yuan, who transmigrated into Sha Hualing’s younger brother at a very young age and basically (re)grew up in the PIDW world. 2.5th au! Binghe (true bingge) married Sha Yuan, things were.... Not Good, and anyways, Bingge died(?), the harem fell apart, and now Sha Yuan is kind of on the run with Mobei-jun and..... Xue Yang. I swear it makes sense, but what if i... don’t explain.

And, final au, what if Liu Mingyan and Liu Qingge were swapped, and she grows up to be the Bai Zhan Peak Lord and Shen Jiu copes less badly with her than her brother because [men] are a lowkey trigger for him, doesn’t spitefully recruit Luo Binghe to Qing Jing Peak, and little Liu Qingge drags Luo Binghe off to go train with his sister. Then........ also Shen Yuan as Shen Qingqiu’s little mini-me protege. All of these are technically bingliuyuan aus (except the 2.5th one) because I love Liu Qingge and can’t stand to see him sad or heartbroken, but yes, apparently I have spent a lot of time thinking about bingyuan and love it very much :V

Hey! So im just finished reading svsss but somehow i felt so unsatisfied with the ending. So my questions are ; 1. I watched svsss fanmade vid with LBH proposed to SQQ. Was there any chap canonically wrote about this? I thought the extras will contain this but i didnt find them. Or did MXTX ever said anything abt this? 2. Can u pls recc me svsss fics u love or Tumblr svsss fic-recc i can follow? Bc i swear i felt their relationship havent been explored enough! Thankyou❤️

Uhh I think there should be an extra about the proposal. I remember someone mentioning that it adapts a scene from one of the extras, but I haven’t read them yet so I don’t know which/where they are. Either that or I’m imagining things haha.

oh man there are too many svsss fics i love. Fair warning, apparently I really like AUs or what-ifs, because almost none of the fics I found in my history were set in canon lol, and none were my favorite favorites.

Actually, funny story: I didn’t feel strongly about many of the characters except for Shen Yuan when I read SVSSS. What made me really fall in love with the characters were the fics and their authors’ interpretations of them (I distinctly remember that aside from Shen Yuan, only Ning Yingying and Gongyi Xiao ever really caught my eye).

Anyways, if you don’t mind some AUs:

Feynite’s SV Wishes series is a wonderful, wonderful AU (alternate xianxia world) with some of the best emotional writing I’ve devoured in a long time.

Not just Feynite’s here, but a few authors write collections of 1-2 chapter AUs that are really fun and creative with good, concise characterization considering they aren’t full length fics, technically.

of the same river (we drink) by sonderlynights, 用玉绍缭之. Shen Yuan transmigrates, but not into Shen Qingqiu. No System. But it’s a really damn good AU.

We Never Dreamed These Walls by straightforwardly. I like AUs, apparently. This one is a what-if: what if Shen Yuan went down to the Endless Abyss with Luo Binghe.

Skip these recs if you only want to read about the main couple:

a straw to light the fire by penscritch. It’s Liushen, and honestly hilarious and supremely creative (another xianxia AU, though close to canon setting). Basically, Liu Qingge is the modern guy who transmigrates. Shen Yuan is a hoot. That is all.

sharp and glorious thorn by newamsterdam. It’s Yue Qingyuan/Original Shen Qingqiu, basically what if there was no transmigration and Shen Qingqiu lost his memory from qi deviation. I find villains fun to explore, and fics that dig into original Shen Qingqiu’s train wreck psyche really satisfy my id lol.

A personal favorite author of mine is JustAWanderingBabbit, who focuses on Original Luo Binghe/Original Shen Qingqiu. Their writing style takes a lot of getting used to, but they can really build a world and make you feel immersed in it within a short span of words. Not for everyone, but I like their stories.

SVSSS AU Idea: What if they were also Australian

This is. An incredibly silly au. The concept is basically - what if the transmigrators where chinese-australian and, rather than dying, transmigrated into PIDW via a very dodgy course they both took. Read on for more stupidity.

Shen Yuan is the 3rd son of some rich real-estate tycoons and was moved to some of their property in Australia bc less pollution is better for his lungs - also to give his family a great excuse to holiday internationally.

Shang Qinghua went to an Australian University and just.didnt leave. He never really knew if he was here legally or not

HIS VISA IS ACTUALLY EXPIRED BUT HE MANAGED TO ESCAPE THE LAW BECAUSE HES JUST THAT UNNOTICED

Shen Yuan did wildlife science!!! Bc Australian wildlife is as close to fantasy monsters as you can get. Shang Qinghua's degree was definitely something like Commerce.

Shen Yuan and Shang Qinghua actually had a group project together but they didn't remember each other - my zoo husbandry subject did a group project with architecture students, so it could happen!

"oh yeah a (insert ridiculous creature here)? Similar to a red belly black snake"

They can use English to confuse people but you know that after a bit people would figure it out so they Australian English it up

Qing Jing is covered in pitfall traps so Shen Yuan can study the wildlife.

Shang Qinghua has 100% forgotten hes not working with standard western modern capitalism at some points and everyone is just so horrified by the things he’s muttering they just. do not inform him hes wrong.

“Whats scarier - facing down 100 demons or the concept of living in that economic system Shang-shishu sometimes rambles about” “Oh, the economy, every day.”

Shang Qinghua drops a "oh, fuck you cunt" and Shen Yuan is like "YOURE NOT EVEN CHINESE???"

Oh consider, for extra comedy, Shen Yuan's spoken mandarin is out of practice and Shang Qinghua still mixes them up

Of course, if we're using Aus English we can't go too ham with the lexicon because then it's just out of place

Reason they transmigrated wasn't BC they died but BC they signed up to a sketchy 5th course that semester. System threatens to eject them and they both had a project worth 70% due which neither had started. Course code is PIDW0666 - SQH thought ‘heh, that has the same acronym as my novel.” and then never thought about it again.

Shang Qinghua needs to pass BC Visa issues, Shen Yuan just has a perfectionist streak and refuses to submit less than the best and losing time while in another world meaning he'll have to rush and submit a rough draft and the shame would actually kill him - better to not go back at all, rather than go back and fail the course

The 5th course was vague as and only had one assignment worth 100% of the mark. A Literature Review.

Ok but also, Shen Yuan holding lil animal handling courses - and he's just got a swarm of these little bitey mammal bastards and is holding them like burgers. And they all look Furious but they can't get him.

He's gotta wrestle an off brand croc tho

Shen Yuan forgetting he has a sword and just sitting on the motherfucker - Actually thats it. That's the research he goes out with LQG for sometimes

LQG wrestles the animal while he makes notes. He was originally going alone until Yue Qingyuan and LQG found out and then they both had minor nervous breakdowns and decided Shen Yuan could never be allowed to do that alone.

Beast Peak goes to him for advice

Shen Yuan teaching his kids the different classes of animals and having a minor crisis as he tries to work out if that's a thing here or not.

Shen Yuan: A bat is actually a mammal, not a bird!

Random Child: What’s a mammal?

SY, to system: please tell me this child is just an idiot and that they have invented the concept of mammals please god

So, there was an Incident at my sister campus - a slice of cake got stolen from the law library fridge and all the law students were furious and started insisting that only law student be allowed it. What I’m saying is that Shang Qinghua 100% stole the cake from the law library fridge

"IM SORRY, it had been there for like 2 weeks! I didn't think anyone was coming for it!"

"WHY DID YOU EAT 2 WEEK OLD CAKE??"

"it was the week they banned us from the local Macca's!!"
