Have you played Yakuza 6 yet? If so ya got any kazumaji head canons based off the events of the game?
I absolutely love your ideas for them and I am beyond upset that Majima was barley in the game. Or even mentioned that much.
They did the boi dirty in this game, I swear.
*clenches my ass hard enough to shit diamonds*
oh I have OPINIONS about 6 I'll tell you that but it is good fodder for the kazumaji agenda 👀 I'mma be kinda rambly in this but I promise it all ties together kdjfjkldfkldf
so we all know Kiryu goes off to find Haruka and because I'm a big fan of dadjima, I can only imagine Kiryu lets him know while he's stuck in jail and Majima's just like WHAT
so Kiryu does a lot of self reflection but acting upon it is another matter. I can see Majima chastising him, saying she ran away cuz that's all Kiryu ever does (part of him is still pissy about him leaving in y3) and she's never had a healthy role model other than the king of hypocrisy. Kiryu would go on about how it's just to protect people yada yada but Majima would be like my guy, you left a bunch of kids in the care of your daughter who should not be parenting for you. you refuse any and all help because you think you can do it all on your own. you left me with Daigo who you said I wouldn't be babysitting AND YET—
I just want Majima to absolutely rail into him about how self serving he's acted despite better intentions. like of course Haruka ran away, look how much pressure she was under, what she went through in the idol bizz (maybe I'm a loser but I did not like Haruka's part in y5 that shit icked me), what you (Kiryu) do every time you feel like a burden to people. how naïve it was to think any part of Kiryu's past would leave him behind just because he wanted it to. how his lone wolf thing impedes on everybody else. how in 5 he literally says he needs to stop running from his past and he does it anyway. this game FRUSTRATES ME rrhrrhhrhrr KIRYU FRUSTRATES ME ACK. but also I have a thing for Majima just being angry at him, to actually lash out and spew all those feelings of being left behind or being refused to let help because Kiryu's stubborn. how he let himself be used all those years to help Kiryu out just because he asked and now once again Kiryu's off on his own, never changing his tune about how he doesn't wanna rely on people. Majima's not perfect either and frankly he communicates like shit too but I just want that RAGE to get out and explore how Kiryu would hear him but never listen. makes it all the more tragic when he finds out Kiryu "died."
*tho I must note, as much as it does irritate me, 6 makes sense entirely for Kiryu's character lol. nothing he does in it surprises me in the slightest so while I'm not a fan of the story, it's pretty fitting for him since he's the downfall of his own story half the time. and it's not so simple as just saying Kiryu's to blame. he's constantly forced to deal with shit just as much as he wants to be left alone. he struggles and he tries hard I'll give him that. I don't think he's a bad person for what he aimed to do in 6 but he's not infallible either. and sometimes it's just par for the course. like how he makes the compromise at the end of the game to disappear so his family can be at peace all the while in his history, he's had major problems doing what he's told - never truly disappearing anyway, going about whatever's gonna happen in gaiden. could you imagine if Haruka caught wind that some resting bitch face motherfucker is beating the shit outta armies somewhere? could you imagine her finding out that Kiryu left again?
honestly I think his character is really interesting cuz of this. he has good intentions and I feel like to him there's some expectation that people should understand this, that people should accept his choices. I think it's fun to explore how others react to that - how it's in a way offensive, that Kiryu thinks he knows what's best and how to handle it as if he has all the power and say. how pissed people feel about him shoving them away for the sake of their safety, etc. I don't think he'd listen to Majima tbh but I think it's important that someone unafraid of Kiryu's dumbassery would lay it out how it is to him in a way that cuts, more so than Haruka, Date or like Akiyama could.
ANYWAY, Majima's mad at him lol but can't really do anything atm due to the surrounding circumstances. I like to think he's got some of the Majima family watching out for Kiryu and Haruka if they happened to see them. Nishida at least cuz ain't no one gonna arrest a cutie patootie like him. it's not much but it's a little peace of mind. Majima knows Kiryu's reckless as all hell so he's worried and doubly annoyed that Kiryu doesn't care (about his own safety or that other people are concerned for him).
so since Majima has a fat 5 minutes in the whole game, there's not much to say about his involvement overall (other than oopsie stuck in jail) but I've had some thoughts about what all the jimas³ are doing in the meantime.
all the jimas are grouped together because I said so even tho realistically they'd prolly be separated lol. Daigo and Saejima are handling things well enough but Majima's bouncing off the walls in boredom and nothing irks him more than being stuck in one spot while Kiryu's out probably getting hit over the head with a stop sign and refusing medical attention. Daigo's losing his mind but he can agree Kiryu's bullheaded and talking about that keeps Majima distracted. Saejima does his part in trying to get Majima's mind off things now that they have all the time in the world to catch up on whatever.
Tumblr media
time passes and I'm rewriting the part in 6 where they show up at the end cuz I live in a fantasy world.
Kiryu "dies" and suddenly the three of them are released early, no doubt knowing his death had something to do with it. Daigo gets Kiryu's letter and Majima makes some joke about Kiryu's literacy but a quick scan of the letter makes Daigo's face drop. he reads it and Majima doesn't think it's real. he doesn't know how to feel. even Saejima is in disbelief. but the letter is vague. it's conjecture written by Kiryu of his own death so there's a chance he's fine. Kiryu's fine, he's always fine. he's been shot and stabbed a million times, he's fine.
but it's not long till it's confirmed by Date. Daigo's skeptical cuz his inner punkass doesn't trust cops. Saejima's on the same page but Majima's in full denial whilst also believing it to be true. his reaction is immediate and violent. he wants something to be done, he wants revenge but Daigo wants to follow Kiryu's wish to avoid war. Majima's so outraged he frankly couldn't give less of a shit about Kiryu's wishes so it's up to Saejima to wrangle him back *insert a dramatic fight here.* Majima gets his ass beat and he's just a mess. things move fast though - the fate of the clan is up in the air and he just couldn't care. but Daigo needs him and for that he pulls it together, just barely.
fast forward to when the jimas go into hiding. they get set up in a lil safehouse via Nick Ogata. I like to see it as a basic bitch type of place, very out of the way, very ignorable but the inside is nice enough. they have to stay cooped up as much as possible and it drives Majima insane. he's fidgety, always pacing. Saejima tries to calm him down and it works for a time until Majima falls into another slump and repeats.
Tumblr media
they took a few things with them that they could, mostly small stuff, some clothes and the like. Majima brought along a few of Kiryu's things, namely some pocket cars and a shirt. he wears it often, being very against washing it. Daigo's too stressed to notice but Saejima watches Majima just break down into someone he doesn't know. he's tired, closed off, guilt ridden. Saejima starts to think this is who Majima was after getting out of the Hole. a shell of a person taking blame for things out of his control. losing the will to care for himself as some sort of self imposed punishment for not doing more. seething in silence in the powerlessness.
his beard grows scraggly, his hair is unkept and the circles under his eye grows darker everyday. his behavior mimics his Sotenbori days where everything was for Saejima, all he could think about was Saejima, how he failed him, how if he tried hard enough he could see him again. it's not the case with Kiryu though. he didn't even get to see the body himself.
he's always on his phone reliving memories through photos and conversations. he freaks out when anyone touches the pocket cars and eventually the shirt gets worn out. he's spiraling while the others look on, unsure how to deal with someone whose entire personality revolves around having a fake one.
Tumblr media
Saejima takes initiative. maybe he's seen Majima like this before or maybe he hasn't. doesn't matter because he gives Majima a bit of tough love, telling him to get a grip. telling him that Kiryu wouldn't want to see him like this and, under his breath, he needs him in better shape so they can beat the shit outta whoever was responsible. it's not easy of course. it takes Majima awhile to learn how to live again and frankly he doesn't want to talk about Kiryu but Saejima forces him to - to get comfortable with mentioning him, enjoying the memories they had. letting him know it's okay to be vulnerable. it's not a kind or pleasant recovery but it's there. it's helping.
and perhaps some time under supervision, he goes to see Haruka and meets Haruto for the first time. he tries to keep a strong façade for her but she can see right through him and gets one of those rare moments where he's just quiet. where he's real. she catches him up on things and it's a rough one for the both of them, especially since he has to keep the visit short. she doesn't bother asking him where he's going afterward but he promises to keep in touch and that he does. she sends him a lot of photos and videos of the family and he backseat-parents Yuta whenever possible. Haruka's never been a fan of always having Kiryu at arms length but this arrangement helps her deal with the long distance since there's effort on both ends to stay close.
Majima's not used to having others around to help him cope but he eases into it decently enough without the Tojo Clan on his shoulders. he even gets along better with Daigo who has time now to focus more on himself and the grunge within his soul. he's a silly lil dork and that charm reminds him of Kiryu but in a way that doesn't send him spiraling. he starts to see all reminders of Kiryu in a more hopeful light, one that brings back his energy. for most of their home confinement, Majima wouldn't even go out as Goromi since half his confidence came from Kiryu's support. but now and then, with Saejima and Daigo backing him, he can tiptoe a bit back into his fav dresses, ones that Kiryu gave him, ones that hurt to put on because of the baggage they carry. he doesn't even have his wigs anymore so he assembles what he can, how he can into something he knows Kiryu would have called pretty regardless. it stills hurts but it helps.
Tumblr media
but, he'll always dip back into the pain of it all. missing intimacy and things taken for granted. he regrets his last words with Kiryu were criticisms knowing he's not perfect himself. maybe he's faced with realizations that he can't survive without certain people, that his attachment issues are brought to the forefront for everyone to see. it's ugly and embarrassing and for the first time in a long time he feels very seen. death's always been a reality for him and he's never cared much for it in regards to himself but losing someone so close, so suddenly? without closure or goodbyes? he's forced to deal with the frailty and mortality of someone he thought was invincible.
and it scares him.

How did you get into Fire Emblem? Someone mentioned to me that your units could perma-die and I was on board immediately.
What Fire Emblem games have you played? All of them
First Fire Emblem game: Awakening, followed by the incorrect decision to play Shadow Dragon (1990)

Have you had any other TOA muses? Other than Hubert, Aelfric, Pelleas, Berkut, Salem, Fáfnir, Limstella, and Jeritza
Do you think you have a type of character you gravitate towards? It used to be serious knightly types, but I think since TOA, I've gravitated more toward characters who are confrontational or can stir up the status quo.
What do you believe you enjoy writing the most? Past tense!! Past tense!!! I usually try to match my partner so I almost never get to write in past tense these days, but my writing comes so much more easily in past tense. I also enjoy writing grand, sweeping scenes and descriptions of places/things.
Favorite TOA-related memory: Team Justice during Lock & Key is still my favorite event experience to this day.
Got any delusions that didn’t see the light of day in TOA that you’d like to share? Kishuna still lurks somewhere in the back of my mind, but the time hasn't been right. Ronan as well

Ryu ga Gotoku Studios [TGS2022 interview]
A pretty detailed interview just came out (https://www.gamer.ne.jp/news/202209190012/) Some interesting things in here. Here are a few points:
___________________
On why Ishin was chosen for a remake
- There was no other candidate for a remake
- Also Ishin had not yet had an English release and many people had been calling for one
- Wanted to release it in English at some point but now feel the time is right
- The key reason for Ishin Kiwami is literally to bring the game out in English
- Apparently they've completely rebuilt the tutorial systems. No idea what this will mean though
On the change in engine
- Though Ishin Kiwami uses Unreal Engine, RGG Gaiden and RGG 8 will both use the Dragon Engine
- The Dragon Engine works great for night environments in modern day settings, with neon signs and such in the city streets. However, they think Unreal works better for natural light, which suits the setting of Ishin better. This is why Gaiden and 8 will still use DE while Ishin uses Unreal
On the use of Soldier Cards in Ishin Kiwami
- According to Yokoyama, during development on the original game they realised the soldier card system in the Battle Dungeon was a lot more fun than they expected (especially using the special abilities). Because of this they actually wanted to make them usable outside the battle dungeon. However, the game was near completion and to implement the card system outside of the battle dungeon would require massive amounts of rebalancing. Even back when the game was originally made, the team had been saying they would love to bring in the ability to use the soldier cards outside of battle dungeon if they get a chance to redo it someday.
Other Ishin Kiwami bits
- Weapons have been completely re-balanced (though they are vague about this - perhaps this means no more machine gun pistol...)
- There have been no major changes to the story, however there have been a few minor changes. For example, there are some bits which are cut. Other bits have been re-edited slightly
___________________
On RGG Gaiden
- While working on 8 they realised they will need to cover Kiryu's past. They note that a lot of people will have never played the Kiryu era games (because they came into the series with 7). Thus, a lot of players will be controlling Kiryu for the first time. They want to help these players understand Kiryu's past. But rather than doing it through a series of "recollections" (you may remember these from the early games - e.g. interacting with the grave at the start of 2 lets you "remember" the events of 1), with loads of talking, they wanted to make a separate game
- However, they emphasise that you don't NEED to play this game in order to jump into 8 and understand it. This is here for those who want to delve deeper in Kiryu's past (I guess they don't expect the turn-based fans to go back and actually play Kiryu's saga for real? but... then why is this spin-off not turn-based? maybe this is for players too lazy to play them all)
- The game spans from the aftermath of 6 through to the start of 8
- The game is action rather than RPG. In fact, there apparently won't be any RPG-style elements brought in to the game. They felt this was best for telling Kiryu's story
- They say the game will be longer than Kaito files, but shorter than a main entry game (in a different interview I saw, they estimated 10-20 hours)
- Will feature substories (in a different interview, they also mention mini-games)
- The idea behind it is that it is a compact game intended to link with 8
So, basically, in this game Kiryu is dealing with his past and the devs say this is a good opportunity for new plays to learn his story going into 8. In addition, this benefits players who have gone through Kiryu's saga by filling in the gap between 6 and 8
___________________
On RGG8
- Apparently when bringing Kiryu back, it wasn't about his popularity or about the sales figures
- They believe the switch from Kiryu to Ichiban was a huge success and bringing Kiryu back isn't for some kind of popularity battle between the two
- Apparently the reason for Kiryu to be back was simply that they needed him for the overall story
- Battle system will be a much more refined version of the RPG system from 7
___________________
Other:
- After Ishin Kiwami is released, they will be revealing more information about other games

2023 Dive Into Aquaplus
After having been into Utawarerumono for well over a decade, and having one foot into Tears to Tiara for the longest of time as well, I decided to finally take the plunge this year to try a variety of Aquaplus' very colorful catalogue.
I got into Utawarerumono a long, long time ago, back when the 2006 anime adaption of it was still airing. At the time, my like of it was mostly superficial. I was still a kid, and I just liked the aesthetics of it. I only started watching it because the name was long and nonsense to me who didn't know a lick of JP at the time. But it stuck with me as it was one of the first few anime I had started watching as it was airing in Japan and subbed. It also introduced me to Suara, who my love for has been anything but superficial.
If it weren't for the 2015 anime adaption of Utawarerumono Itsuwari no Kamen, it may have just stayed as a memory of aesthetics. A few episodes into its airing, I had a strong urge to buy the game, and so I asked for it for Christmas. I was never the same since.
While waiting for the release of Utawarerumono Futari no Hakuoro later in 2016, I got my hands on Tears to Tiara 2 to try and fill the void. I had previously seen the Tears to Tiara anime back in 2009 while it was airing, as I had immediately recognized the art as being similar to Utawarerumono. Looking it up I learned it was from the same company, and Amazuyu had also worked on some of the designs for it as well.
Unfortunately, the game was incredibly difficult for someone like me who is terrible at strategy games, and the writing didn't manage to hook me early on, so I ended up putting the game on hold indefinitely about 10 hours in. At some point in 2017 I picked up the remake of the first game, Tears to Tiara Kakan no Daichi, and really loved it. It still wouldn't be until this year though that I fully threw myself into the Tears to Tiara franchise.
Fast forward to 2023, through various Utaware phases and burnouts, and the release of Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten along with the 3rd anniversary event in the Utawarerumono Lost Frag mobile game re-igniting my mood for the series at the tail end of 2022, I finally decide that this year is the time to make due on my desire to play more Aquaplus titles.
Tumblr media
Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord
Seven years after my first attempt, I finally went back to this in January and finally completed it. My issues from my first attempt never really went away, however the writing managed to hook me around chapter 5, and I had a lot more enjoyment with the OST and various small things now that I had actually experienced the first game, and not just the anime. The uses of Until and Tears to Tiara 凱歌 will live in my head rent free until the end of time.
Tarte became not only my favorite TtT character, but maybe even my #1 Aquaplus favorite. ああっ女神さまっ…
This game got me to start paying attention to Honjou Tatami.
The nostalgia for the first TtT game wrecked me hard and I ended up replaying it right after.
Tumblr media
Tears to Tiara: Kakan no Daichi
我が友よ
My Tears to Tiara mood was unstoppable, and so I finally bought its fandisc.
Tumblr media
Tears to Tiara Gaiden - Avalon no Nazo
Nothing could have prepared me for the Lidia content in this game or the dragon stage straight from the ninth level of hell.
I still haven't recovered from the ending and the double whammy of realizing what the start of the OP is. The bastards really did it twice.
After this I went on a spree and bought all the LEs and the novels and manga... it is criminal how little supplementary material the games have, and how 2 has none. I have nothing to go on now but copium and offering my life to Marui Takeshi.
Tears to Tiara Gaiden 2 and Tears to Tiara 3 when.
Next, I played my first dating sim in 8~9 years, and a more obscure one at that.
Tumblr media
Routes
You don't know what you're getting into until you've already beaten this game.
One of the more unique things I've experienced, to the point I don't know how to talk about it without spoiling it, and it is definitely a game best played blind. Quite possibly the most unique script-writing I've seen. The way the two scenario writers duties were split is one of the best uses of multiple writers that I've seen in a game.
The voice acting in this game is a masterpiece.
One thing I really love about both Routes and Tears to Tiara is the kind outlook on life they have.
I started this just before the Dungeon Travelers 2 series re-release and still have not touched those.
Next, I somehow ended up on one of their most famous.
Tumblr media
White Album 2 ~Introductory Chapter~
Short, but emotionally loaded. After All ~Tsudzuru Omoi~ changed me as a person.
I started this one just a few days before the first White Album game's re-release because of course I did.
Tumblr media
White Album 2 ~Closing Chapter~
One very charged, and very long work. I had to sit on it for quite a while after. I also binged all its supplemental material.
I haven't had a love/hate relationship with something this strong since, well, Inuyasha. You have issues, Maruto.
Kazusa Normal was a great route.
WHITE ALBUMの季節はまだまだこれからだよ。
Tumblr media
White Album ~Tsuzurareru Fuyu no Omoide~
A little underwhelming, honestly. The way the gameplay and routes are structured makes the writing very fragmented. Had some nice moments, but overall I enjoyed the writing of Sayoko's route most, as it feels most coherent, likely due to it being added into the 2010 remake.
Despite the fragmented writing, I did like many of the heroines quite a bit.
White Album has been stuck in my head for months, and now the season for it is upon us...
And what would be most fitting to follow it up with another winter-related game, if not...
Tumblr media
Tenshi no Inai 12-gatsu
It might be time to lay off the depresso games for a bit, as I had a hard time getting into this one. In a weird way it reminded me a lot of how screwed up my own mentality was when I was younger, and it's not something I cared to remember. I suppose it gets points for realistically depicting the unstable nature of the adolescent mind.
It had some interesting underlying themes, and I don't dislike the message of it, but I was unable to feel any investment in the heroines. I may have liked it more if the characters were a little more fleshed out.
I've only just beaten it, so I need to sit on my thoughts for it a little longer.
And then a special mention to none other than:
Tumblr media
Utawarerumono Lost Frag
I finally picked this back up in November 2022, during it's 3rd anniversary event when they added Raikou. It's not every day you get an entire event dedicated to your only OTP in the series.
I got especially into it after my TtT marathon, and I've read most events, various character stories and a little of the main story. I always wanted to give it another chance, and I'm glad to have finally found something to pull me back into it. I really enjoy what it offers, from the expansions of various Utaware lore, to doing things only a social game really can. The event writing is out of this world.
It gave me 2 of the top 3 things I wanted to see for 7 years from the series now and I can only pray it delivers on the last someday.
Final thoughts
I've had a lot of Aquaplus vocal tracks in my library for many years, and its fun to go through their backlog and realize what songs are from what, and which ones I had that I didn't even realize were from Aquaplus games. And since I've followed Suara since 2006, making the connection between her discography and where her non-utaware songs are from has been a blast so far.
I look forward to diving further in in 2024. I want to give their other famous series like Dungeon Travelers and ToHeart a shot. Comic Party is still waiting on my shelf, as well.
Going through different time periods with their artists is a really fun adventure from an artist's perspective. It's fun to see where they've improved, what habits they've kept, the areas where they adjust things to be more modern, and how their painting evolves. For a long time I only knew Amazuyu by name, but now it's fun to glance at an artwork and be like "Oh, so and so drew this around xxxx year."
I want to see another game with Tatami as the main artist...
I also recently realized the only things I've finished since March have been various Aquaplus fanarts (I have drawn other things, just not finished...) Something unlocked in my brain and I'm enjoying drawing again to an extent, and for that I'm glad.

Please answer if you can, no rush. Do you think they should make a Naruto Gaiden Novel almost like a retelling with more details to fill what the Manga could not? If this happened I want some things to be addressed in detail.
When and how exactly did Sasuke suspect the Otsutsuki clan emerging and be a possible threat to the Village.
The decision between Sasuke and Sakura about if Sasuke's suspicious proven correctly what are they going to tell Sarada as she grows because this could be (and was) a very long mission that had Sasuke missed quite a big chuck out of her childhood.
A little flashback regarding Sarada's birth. (To avoid any more stupid doubts about who's her mother.) I also want to know how Karin's thoughts were seeing the guy you loved married and having a child you had to deliver, then seeing how happy the new family is with each other. I think it's also will be good to showcase Sakura and Karin's bond during this. But maybe that can be saved for a traveling novel for SS.
In the detail of Sasuke's mission (Hopefully that stopped people saying Sasuke was a deadbeat or hooking up with other women.)
Why Sarada needs glasses. (Like we know that KM said it was for design purposes. But she does still in fact needs them. I want to know was it the fever she had as a child or something else.
How did Sarada obtain her Sharingan because didn't Sakura say she somewhat awaken it as a small child?
And the teaching baby Sarada how to walk.
And for my guilty pleasure some wholesome family moments with SSS.
And more, that I am sure you'll like to add.
I know the chances of this happening are lower than low. But I still would like to see more. Maybe when Boruto is over they could focus heavily on novels before ending the series as a whole because I don't think we're getting a third generation for the kids, kids. Lol
To be honest I like all of your suggestions regarding a Gaiden novel elaborating on events. I'd still rather have a novel detailing Sasuke and Sakura's travels, but if we can't have that then all of the above would certainly be my second choice. It's of course almost certainly going to remain a pipe dream, but it's still food for thought.

possible (?) hidden strife/diluc event leaks and theory
From leaks it’s been datamined that the scroll in Dilucs new idle animation says “Attention. It’s snowing.”
I first thought that, after following the leaks etc., it could mean an old outfit from back then with someone telling him that it’s snowing in Snezhnaya and he should be careful.  But spoilers fur Shuumatsuban Gaiden story line: This is a side story on how Pierro tried to make recruits infilitrate the Shuumatsuban and how they communicate between each other, without outsiders knowing what they’re talking about; both verbally as well as through motion.
Now while “Attention. It’s snowing.” is not part of the Fatui Code that we have access to in the quest line, but due the majority of the code being metaphors I would assume that this line is literally code to him from, well, whoever. Maybe it’s the Fatui bringing this code to all their agents and letting them know that someone - and funny enough, even the one reciving the message - is spying on them.
I don’t think it will be this cool, but I’d take it as “Attention. Someone is infilitrating us/scattering doubt/betraying us.” since snow has a powdery texture to itself and scatters in between the concrete.
What further undermined this random idea was the 2nd new Diluc idle animation, in which he twists his left hand and then clenches it. I deemed it as a simple upgraded one of his original one where he just twists his wrists around and seems more on the calm side, but we’ve seen both his idles are almost - in contrary to how we know him - pretty agitated, aggressive even. Long story short, to clench your left hand in the code means To take revenge - and Diluc sure did try to get his revenge in his 3-year rampage.
I just find it suspicious that these two things co-exist and at the same time it can basically mean nothing, but I still wanted to write it down since it’s fun to think about all the possibilites of the lore. What we do know is that it is placed in the present, due to the player always playing in the present and the description of the event being that you and Paimon notices something; meaning it can’t be from back then. But I can be an outfit he started using back then and it’s probably what Diluc still does, infilitrating the Fatui.

Imagine Ryu Hayabusa and Genji Shimada meeting up ok? Like this could be very interesting !! At first they either fight or just stare each and be like “is..is he another ninja?” And then this will lead to maybe them working together and just learn about each other. Genji is thoroughly impressed by Ryu fighting plus his character , the same thing could be said to Ryu. After sometime say they got like trapped or like a situation where it’s uncertain if they will servive or not , so they start to talking (initiated by Genji)which leads to deep conversations. Ryu saying that he is amazed by Genji. How he just forgave his brother and kept on living . Genji is surprised and y’know Ryu in return tell him about his life coz why not? And this goes on and eventually they get help . After that their respect for each other has increased which will lead into them becoming friends!! ( and even better if it was brotherly like especially since Ryu is like younger than Genji by like 10 *yea that’s a huge age difference huh?* anyWay). Here are some headcanons about them:
at first Genji thought to be the same as his age only to be later revealed wrong when Ryu that he is actually 25 (he got to the overwatch universe two years after the events of ninja gaiden 3 imagine my shock when I learned he is 23 😭😭) Genji was baffled to say the least.  Ryu got surprised as well when he learned that Genji is actually 35.
whenever Ryu sees Hanzo being a pain or arguing with Genji he just has the sudden urge to just smash cut his head , but he won’t show it so later when he and Hanzo get alone he will throw subtle hints to not cross the line for ex. They are training and Ryu gets the upper hand. Saying something among the lines that like lowkey insulting and taunting subtly and the rest is up to ur imagination ( I have no brain juice to create dialogue it’s 5 am in here and I haven’t slept yet😭😭)
same goes to Genji. Basically they protect each other backs but maybe Genji is less intimidating? Spoilers: no he isn’t . Actually he can be more scary than Ryu.
they train together. They share tips with each other and help each other improve.  Imagine Genji getting overjoyed when Ryu agreed to meet his master coz y’know. After meeting Ryu understand why Genji holds so much respect for him and they meditate together.
Genji sometimes wear silly shirts with lines “best ninja buddies” (I couldn’t make a better one sorry😬) and you bet he tries forces Ryu to wear it and Ryu is firmly refusing coz that’s embarrassing. Eventually he wears coz Genji is a little shit and won’t stop until he get what he wants.
Aaaannd that’s it!!

I finished infinite wealth and got the plat
Gameplay was great and I enjoyed the combat more than I did with 7. The minigames and other side activities were a lot of fun as well. There weren't really any that I didn't want to play(except golf but that's a given)
I did find it strange how they just blasted you with basically every substory during the early chapters then just nothing after 1/3 of the way through the game.
Also I don't like that they removed the skill shortcuts on the dpad. Made scrolling through the skill list get a little tedious towards the end xD
Ending spoilers below
I've got some mixed feelings about how it went down
So I think I'm okay with how they handled Kiryu. Clearly the end of his involvement in at least the fighting going forward.
I do have a few problems/questions though
Kind of unclear what's going down on first watch. Is he just in the hospital to recover from that final fight or is he actually seeking treatment for his cancer now? Even though he said daidoji researched his condition a bunch and the doctor was shocked he was even walking around at this point.
Also yay he got his name back but how'd the events of the ending lead to that and are the daidoji suddenly okay with it even after all the bluster from gaiden and this game?
You know how they nearly killed Date because he attempted to let Kiyru meet with Haruka. Even that restriction seems to have been randomly lifted judging by the tease of them meeting right at the end.
Also they put a scene from the ending into one of their trailers. I was aware I hadn't seen that scene yet all the time while I was playing so it kind of spoiled the outcomes of some bits. Same with the reveal of Kiyrus unique class style system thing.
Maybe after sitting with it for a while I'll appreciate it more but it feels like a bit of a ....eh note to end things on.
Now for Ichibans side of the ending
Overall I liked it again. But how did Eiji end up where he did? I get he's in hiding but how'd he get to Japan in the middle of everything? What happened with Ichibans mother? She only got a line of dialog basically saying "she's helping the new sage" All that build up, investigating, and travelling across the world to find his mother and it came down to a slight mention.
Same with Chitose! All the trouble she went through and her reveals and all we get is "she's the head of her family now :)" Not even in the bar with the gang at the end.
Huh I guess I have more issues with it than I realised when I started writing this xD
Again maybe it'll grow on me after I think on it over the next few days and read about other peoples thoughts.

BASARA Gaiden-KATANA Rainbow Story-Ginkgo : A review (?)
When I first read the Katana Short Story in volume 26 of Yumi Tamura's Basara I had the thought that in a fair universe where Basara has the high budget anime adaptation it deserves this story would have had it's own stand alone-ish movie adaptation.
The people who adapted Basara to the stage must have had a similar idea because they chose to adapt this story for the stage.
Like all 2.5 play this play was performed for a limited time, in february 2019 (i think they were only 7 performances in total).
I was pretty curious to watch it so i ordered a dvd off yahoo auctions, and watched it yesterday.
Obviously this didn't come with subtitles, and my Japanese it still very rudimentary so this review is going to be quite superficial, but I was still able to to follow the play pretty well having read the short story it's adapting twice before.
For a refresher Katana is the story of the failed rebellion led by the generation of Sarasa's great grandparents against the cruel and sadistic Lion King, 100 years before the events of Basara.
Tumblr media
Our protagonist Tara is a young woman who grew up as an orphan and was painfully rejected and abused by her community as they believed her to be cursed which means that she had grow up without ever feeling love or comfort. She was about to be killed in a sacrificial ritual but is rescued by the rebellion led by Gensho (Tatara and Sarasa's ancestor). She then joins the rebellion, where she for the first time find meaning and a place where she belongs, and we follow her and her companions doomed efforts in their battle against the Lion King.
The story is pretty short (about a 100 pages), which means that the stage play is able to adapt it really well without having to take big shortcuts, and it's folktale like narrative worked very well on the stage i thought. The play is even able to flesh out some bits, which was very nice, they added a lot of banter between our rebels which highlighted their relationship as brothers in arms (even if i couldn't understand most of it...).
Notably we see a lot more of the Lion King (who by the way is played by a woman, a former Takarazuka actress which i thought was neat), with little comedic scene which really show him a a despotic and cruel but also very bored ruler. By his side are two original characters and given their color coding i assume that must be the then Red and Blue Kings, which is the nice touch, they don't really do much in the story though, apart for acting as a leader of enemy troops in battle.
Tumblr media
Speaking of battles those were really fun to watch! The choreography felt really dynamic, I loved the scenes with the lions in particular , i think they were inspired by traditional performances and used puppet and traditional sounding music with some nice drums. They were really cool to see!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something else that was fleshed out in this adaptation is the relationship between Tanmanya and Iris, the stranded European woman he falls in love with. I think this was my favorite part of the show (maybe because i could actually understand some of it since Iris spoke english), it felt very sweet and beautiful (and you know, sad...).
Tumblr media
Asahiko also get a flashback scene featuring his little sister that makes the scene where he's tricked into killing her all the more tragic (the flashback scene i wasn't quite able to follow but I'm a bit worried that it had some weirdly incestuous undertone since what i understood of it was Asahiko telling his sister that she's beautiful before she tells him that she wants to become a bride, doesn't seems very tamura esque though, so i might be completely off).
The finale was was very emotional with the tragedy of seing our heroes fails and their swords be scattered across the Japan, but with an added touch of hope conveyed by a cameo by Sarasa and the other heirs of the legendary swords.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If there was something i liked less it was the over reliance on pre recorded lines used for the characters inner monologues, since those are usually some very important lines and it would have been better to see the actors actually perform them in my opinion.
Other than that i thought the performance were pretty good, but without really understanding them i can't really judge, the music was great and really one of the highlights for me. The costume were simple but pretty nice (why didn't they let Asahiko wear crop tops like he does in the mnga though...), i wasn't much a fan of the costume of the King's harem (?) women though, it felt a bit to orientalist sexy costume and less like the interesting byzantine and Japanese style fusion Basara is usually going for.
It was really fun to watch and if you like Basara i can only encourage you to check it out! I think it's available on amazon Prime in japan, so if you have a subscription and a VPN you might be able to watch it there.
It left me very interested to check out the three other stage play that adapt the main story!

Summer Reading 2023: August
A quick summary of what I was able to read in August!
Finished:
Aoharu x Kikanjuu by NAOE (volumes 14-18)
I love this manga! It was really cool that during the second TGC we got to know all the other teams and their motivations ^^ The ending was maybe a bit abrupt... I'd love to know what happens to all these characters later! But then I liked the epilogue :)
Sachi-iro no One Room Gaiden: Seikai no Meitantei by Hakuri
It's a spin-off depicting the adventures of detective Matsubase three years prior to the events of Sachi-iro no One Room. The first half of the story was weird but fun, the second half was "well, that escalated quickly..." but it was still interesting, even though I missed the "old" Aketoyo - him teaming with Matsubase got us such wonderful dynamic!
Osamu Dazai’s Entrance Exam by Kafka Asagiri
I have a problem with Mr Asagiri's prose - it just... doesn't flow that well? Maybe it's an issue of translation. Still, I'm grateful we've got all these light novels explaining so much about the BSD characters' actions and motivations :)
Moriarty by Anthony Horowitz
After the brilliant House of Silk, this one was kind of a let down... I suspected a certain trope being there, but I missed the issue of whom it concerned by miles - and I didn't really like the actual resolution. :)
Summer Ghost by Otsuichi, Yoshi Inomi, Loundraw
Yet another manga that made me emotionally compromised... oh well :') Perfect for a late summer reading.
Thousand Autumns vol. 2 by Meng Xi Shi
Heaven Official's Blessing vol. 6 by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu
I continue re-reading my favorite Chinese webnovels in their official English translations.
Magic Bitter, Magic Sweet by Charlie N. Holmberg
Surprisingly good - at least for me, since the entire book relies on the amnesia trope, which in general I'm not a fan of :D I loved the creative references to classic fairy tales ^^ It could do without the sugary-sweet epilogue, though... but that's just me :)
Getting There:
Spy x Family by Tatsuyi Endo (vol. 2-9)
Go with the Clouds, North by Northwest by Aki Irie (1-4)
Death Note vol. 1 by Tsugumi Ohba & Takeshi Obata
Horimiya (vol. 1-5) by HERO & Daisuke Hagiwara
Liu Yao by priest
Up-to-Date With:
Gokurakugai by Yuto Sano
Return of the Mad Demon
The Case Study of Vanitas by Jun Mochizuki
The Apothecary Diaries by Natsu Hyuuga, Nekokurage, Itsuki Nanao

Gen Swap AU (masterpost)
This is an overview for the AU as a whole. (Will be updated if there are changes or additions.)
Setting: It’s not a complete “swap”, but actually just takes the entire Founder generation and moves them into the present. (There is the fun implication that the village was built by a warring states version of Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke instead, but shhhhh. That’s an entirely different story. We avoid all thoughts on who created Konoha here. Regardless of what happened in the past, Team 7 still exists as normal in their own time as well. Maybe they were reincarnated.)
The main focus is technically on Madara and Obito, but the world building is so fun to explore that everyone else gets to shine as well.
This is a happier timeline and most of the tragic events do not happen/happen differently.
Relationships:
Family:
In this AU, Mikoto is Tajima’s oldest daughter. That means, as Mikoto’s younger brothers, Madara and Izuna are directly related to Sasuke. They are his uncles and Tajima is Sasuke’s grandfather.
I might add Madara’s other siblings later, if I find the time to make the appropriate OCs. They are all alive.
Hashirama’s siblings are all alive too.
Genin teams:
Madara, Mito and Hashirama are in one team. Kushina is the jounin acting as their leader and teacher while they are genin.
Tobirama, Touka and Izuna are in one team.
Friendships:
Obviously the genin teams mentioned above grow into close friendships.
Butsuma and Tajima are cranky old men who meet up regularly to exchange gossip.
Madara and Gai are a duo of chaos that should not be left unsupervised. Equally enthusiastic to challenge each other.
Mikoto and Kushina are both alive and close friends.
Romantic relationships:
MadaObi: The whole AU was initially made for this ship. Obito and Madara have vaguely known each other since childhood. Obito starts a somewhat one sided rivalry that turns serious the more he grows in skill when he’s older and somewhere along the way they fall in love.
IzuTobi: They eventually become boyfriends and terrify everyone.
HashiMadaObiMito: The seeds for this polycule develop after Obito starts pursuing Madara. HashiMito is happily bullying their way into the relationship (and Obito’s pants).
HashiMito: High school sweethearts, if high school existed in this universe. Power couple with a strong libido. (Yes, this is relevant information because I say so.)
HashiMadaMito: Somewhat complicated. Madara was always kinda included in their relationship. Unofficial couple, but everyone just sees them and assumes they’re together from the way they act. In some versions of the AU they are a steady poly couple before Obito comes into the picture, in others they’re living in a limbo state where Madara himself is unsure if he is even a part of their relationship.
KakaRin: *holds them up like a potato* I just think they’re neat.
Other relationships:
Tajima used to be Uchiha clan head but eventually retired and gave up the role. Fugaku is his successor (and son-in-law), and Tajima never wastes a chance to throw snark at him. It’s his retirement hobby.
Obito eventually becomes Tajima’s son-in-law… and favourite son overall.
Touka and Izuna are rivals.
Mito will eventually teach Tenten in fūinjutsu.
Ages (at the time of Kakashi Gaiden*):
(*The AU covers multiple generations, I simply picked a point in time so you can compare the ages of relevant characters)
Tajima 43
Fugaku 30
Mikoto 25
Kushina 22
Minato 22
Madara 15
Obito 13
Kakashi 13
Rin 13
Yamato/Tenzou 9
Hashirama 15
Mito 15
Izuna 11
Tobirama 11
Touka 11
Itachi 3
(Sasuke will be born 2 years later)

Buri-senpai~ it’s me again! It seems like the Kamado family was respected in town. How do you think the townsfolk would’ve reacted once they realized that Tanjirou hadn’t been visiting with charcoal, only to check up on the family where they see the wreckage. Perhaps Tanjirou had left a rushed note, noting how his family was attacked, how only he and Nezuko were alive, and how they won’t be able to visit for a very long time. If that’s the case, I don’t think Tanjirou will explain the cause 1/3
2/3 of the attack, but there’s a chance that Saburo would’ve eventually realized that a demon had attacked them. Also, side notes: if Kaigaku was still a demon slayer during the events of the red light district, do you think he would've heard about Zenitsu's contributions to the defeat of upper 6? I had read your amazing Ukogi fic and enjoyed the characterization of Kaigaku's crow embellishing his achievements as a slayer. I also enjoyed Matsuemon's fondness of Nezuko and it seems like
3/3 he was ‘conspiring’ (for lack of a better word) with Oyakata-sama behind the scenes, with how the events at Asakusa with Tamayo played out. I'm sure Tamayo's existence was pardoned by the Oyakata-sama of Yoriichi's time. Also, sorry for the length! I enjoy your input on everything!
Going to reply to this in a couple parts, but allow me to first borrow one of my LINE stickers to express:
Tumblr media
I'll reply to the fic stuff under the cut, but I'm really honored by your close reading and consideration of one of my favorite fics, "The Legend of Ukogi." But first for your question about Tanjiro!
Honestly, I was surprised by the village's upkeep of their home, including nice new tatami and shelves which Nezuko noticed in the extended epilogue included the Volume 23 version of Chapter 204. I would had assumed they'd have a mess of a home to come back to (and wrote my canon diverent/continuation fic that way, for the first draft was written after Chapter 204's magazine publication but before Volume 23's publication). At least nowadays in Japan, uninhabited homes are often left as-is and fall to shambles, even in cities, causing problems for the neighbors as they become home to pests. Upkeep is an issue, and it seems unlikely the townspeople would had gone out of their way to keep the site of a tragedy so nice.
However, Gotouge seems to stress that the Kamado family, simply for being good people, were often humbled by being on the receiving end of such kindnesses. Even Sumiyoshi and Suyako were on the receiving end of this, as mentioned in a Taisho Secret in Volume 22, for having helped a local lord's wife and son while they were in peril without knowing who they were. Even though they tried to refuse reward, they made sure they had a nicely fixed up house anyway (side note, they moved in to Yoriichi's and Uta's abandoned house).
A sturdy house as returns for their kindness seems to be as much of a running theme in Kamado history as is Hinokami Kagura and making charcoal. We do see that Tanjiro is pretty popular among the townspeople and everyone knows they can rely on him, and if Tanjiro's highly biased word is to be trusted, Nezuko had a reputation as a local beauty. In good whether the little kids must had gone into town a bunch, and Tanjiro (and Inosuke's) continued charcoal business (despite the increasing reliance on electricity) in the Fanbook #2 extended epilogue shows that the Kamado family has always had a reputation for high quality charcoal. Certainly, they've been well-loved long enough that their tragedy would not go unnoticed.
As further evidence of this, in the Giyuu Gaiden, a hunter even notices that on a different mountain nearby there was a family of charcoal farmers slaughtered and a suspicious person in a half-and-half haori was seen around there. Clearly, the villagers were quick to notice the incident and start looking around for the man who might had done it!
But we're still left with the question of how quickly they'd have noticed the absence, how word got around, and just how much they knew. My initial thought in response to your Ask was "there's no way Tanjiro had time for that, he had bury his family and get Nezuko dressed and hurry and go!" but then again, this is Tanjiro we're talking about. Tanjiro who faithfully keeps a diary for Nezuko no matter how tired he is, and who faithfully keeps in touch with all his penpals even with all his demon slaying work to keep him busy. If anyone would had written a letter, it would had been him.
It's possible that his reasoning would had been for Nezuko's sake. Should word get around about the incident, and about Nezuko being a demon, people might suspect she was the one who did it. Even Tanjiro had to consider that possibility when he was first shocked by her transformation, though he had the evidence to clearly determine that she was innocent. So maybe if he did leave something, it might simply had been to inform people that Nezuko still needs help, and he's left to take care of her.
To the townspeople, Tanjiro's word is trustworthy. As soon as someone discovered the incident (and perhaps a letter), word would probably get around pretty fast, and if Tanjiro had circumstances that forced him to leave for Nezuko's sake, that implies that they might make a return once she was alright. That might be what inspired the townspeople, who cared for generations about their local charcoal farmers, to have their hearts wrenched with sympathy for the tragedy these two surviving children have been through, and to try to do what they can by taking care of the house while they're gone.
As for knowing if it was demons or not, it's possible only Saburo knew that. There's so much we don't know about Saburo, but my personal headcanon is that he lost his family to demons and was rescued by the Demon Slayers. While others might have been quick to blame the suspicious man in the half-and-half haori, anything said by Saburo, a man perhaps known for keeping to himself with a sullen personality, was dismissed or taken for mere superstition. Saburo, having told Tanjiro to stay with him that night, might had already felt something was off, and when the feeling kept bothering him, he might had gone to check on the Kamado family and been the first one to discover the massacre. Letter or not, he'd have known Tanjiro survived, and might had gotten there soon enough to trace the footprints to deduce to that one of the other older children must had survived too.
Now because of fic spoilers, Bird Fic commentary below!
As I was doing my best to make that fic fit alongside canon, I tried to consider where the birds might and might not been able to influence the events of canon, and that made Denroku (Kaigaku's crow) one of my favorite small bits to work with. Even though he never makes an appearance in the story (only mentioned as a slightly antagonistic bird), he struck me as having the most potential for influencing events.
Since we see a general pattern of the birds being very invested in the Slayer they work with, I imagined that Denroku would pick up on Kaigaku's ambitions. When he got in trouble for embellishing Kaigaku's achievements, that's when he tries the reverse, taking assignments into his own talons and leading to Kaigaku fighting an enemy out of his league. While most of the Kasugai-garasu would had immediately reported Upper Moon 1 so that a Pillar could be summoned, Denroku's underhanded drive to see Kaigaku promoted is what leads to a situation the Corp would had preferred to avoid.
And that brings us back to Matsuemon, who does his best to promote his underlings' achievements to get Tanjiro recognized as a Pillar. He is protective of Nezuko, having picked up on that from Tanjiro, but honestly, I had not considered Matsuemon leading to Tanjiro's encounter with Tamayo. Letting Oyakata-sama know about it, though, that does seem in character for Matsuemon, which we'll get to!
As for why Tanjiro encountered Tamayo so early on, I posited in this Ask that Oyakata-sama probably was hoping Tanjiro would make a connection with her. Gotouge has stated that the demon Tanjiro was sent to investigate in Asakusa was Tamayo. Like you, I assume that Kagaya's forefathers must had chosen to pardon her existence out of Yoriichi's good word for her, and we know from his later mention of her to Tanjiro and efforts to reach out to her later that he's probably always been curious about a way to gain her trust.
What probably gave him the idea to use Tanjiro, a kid with a demon sister, was Urokodaki's letter. We didn't hear the full letter read allowed at the Pillar meeting, but my thought is that Urokodaki wrote highly enough of Tanjiro that Kagaya was like, "aha! This is it! This might be the person who helps me gain Tamayo's trust!" and that was why he sent Tanjiro to Asakusa on his second mission. As for whether Matsuemon knew that or not, I suspect not initially, but he might had gotten aware of it overtime and been in on the loop of birds who know this but help keep it on the downlow, as per Oyakata-sama's request. Matsuemon might had also been given special instructions to report details to the Kasugai-garasu who initiated the personal correspondence between Oyakata-sama and Tamayo. Knowing this egotistical bird he probably would had loved to brag about it, but he's smart enough and respects the Corp mission enough to know when to keep silent about his achievements.
EDIT: Ack! I forgot to respibd to your Kaigaku question. I do assume Kaigaku was still a Corp member at that time and he probably heard and that it ticked him the hell off. Even if he didn't know the details, the fact that Zenitsu would had been credited with fighting an Upper Moon would tick him off with jealousy. Not to worry, Kaigaku, Upper Moon 6 is only the bottom rung of the Upper Moons. ; P

the fact that edelgard is the villain in 3/4 routes and yet intsys STILL glorifies her to no end enrages and annoys me. no other villain has been given that perspective of “well actually maybe they arent so bad” except for the hypocritical tyrant. even when she has *literally become an inhuman monster* intsys is still like “oh no dont worry she was right actually!” and it upsets me deeply
It upsets me, too, friend.  IntSys seems to really like glorifying people who don’t deserve it, especially in recent games (Walhart in Awakening, Rudolf in Echoes -- I can’t say if his whole ‘orchestrating a plan to have his son murder him’ thing is carry-over from Gaiden or not, but it definitely exists in the recent remake so I’m including it), but Edelgard actually ends up as a bit of a weird case.
(I have a lot of thoughts about this, so I’m just going to cut preemptively.)
Now, I’m actually not opposed to Edelgard being the protagonist of the fourth route in Three Houses.  Anyone who’s been here a while knows that I generally see Grima, a figure that IntSys generally tries to paint as a rote villain, as at least a sympathetic villain (and possibly even a secret hero in the events of Awakening itself); it’s entirely possible for someone that’s a villain in most of their appearances to have legitimate reasons for what they’re doing and why, and revealing that in their personal route could be incredibly powerful if done well.
And here’s the thing: Edelgard really is a compelling character, in large part because of her moral ambiguity.  I actually agree with her when she says that the Church of Seiros is corrupt at its core and the system needs to change.  She’s right about that!  While Seiros might have had decent reasons for establishing things this way, over the past thousand years human societies have changed while the church itself remained stagnant -- something potentially exacerbated by her selfish ambition to restore her mother -- and this has led to a structure that once served an important purpose becoming a toxic and destructive mess for humanity at large.  Edelgard has a completely valid point there, and it’s something that I could absolutely get on board with if she had gone about achieving change in some other way, because she does have other methods available to her that she writes off without real reason -- and even that can relate back in part to her deep trauma and difficulty trusting people after the betrayals she faced at the hands of her “uncle” and her own father’s powerlessness to stop the nightmare she and her siblings suffered through.
IntSys probably could have crafted a narrative that showed from her perspective why she believed war against the Church was the only valid option available to her.  The issue is that she undercuts her own argument by targeting all of Fodlan, rather than specifically going after the Church: she doesn’t give the Kingdom and Alliance a “stay out of my way or else” warning, she literally turns her sights on the Kingdom as soon as the monastery falls and attempts to fully annex it once Cornelia sets up Dimitri’s fall, leaving the Alliance only because she has her hands full with Faerghus.  She didn’t have to take Cornelia up on her offer of making the Kingdom into the Dukedom of Faerghus and sending troops to finish the job: she could have just left the woman to her own devices, forcing the Twisted to utilize their own people to maintain and secure full control of the region while she worked on addressing the systemic issues, which would have had multiple benefits:
The Imperial Army doesn’t get overwhelmed and exhausted fighting in conditions they’re not equipped to deal with, leaving them stronger overall while the Twisted forces are potentially weakened by the same
Hubert is able to better assess the threat they’re dealing with, including learning their capabilities and possibly even where they’re coming from before Merceus
Edelgard actually puts her money where her mouth is and ends up helping the people she claims to be doing this for, rather than just using them as fodder for the war to grind up
Unfortunately, the way she’s written ends up just making her an imperialist.  She’s not just going after the corrupt core of the Church, she’s trying to forcibly unite the continent and return Fodlan to some long gone ideal where it was all united under the Imperial banner because she refuses to believe that Adrestia could have split by natural causes.
Crimson Flower ultimately ends up being a particularly egregious example of this glorification phenomenon in action because they give her a personal route that makes no effort to critically examine her actions and make her face consequences for them.  This, I think, does her a massive disservice as a character, because that aforementioned moral ambiguity that makes her so interesting could have been utilized to great effect -- and the proof is actually there already, because they do it in Dimitri’s route.
Dimitri is himself another interesting character, and outwardly presents as Edelgard’s polar opposite: he recognizes that he doesn’t have all the answers, struggles to figure out the correct course of action when presented with difficult subjects that have  no clear-cut answer -- like the fact that reliance on the Crest system is toxic for noble families, but it’s those very Crest-bearers and their Relics that help keep Faerghus safe from invasion by Sreng -- possesses incredible strength but specifically refrains using it in most cases to avoid harming others, and generally takes everyone’s problems onto himself to his own detriment.  He’s also deeply traumatized and was never given a chance to deal with it in a healthy manner, which contributes to how he snaps -- and Azure Moon starts with Dimitri being so far out of reach that you can’t unlock any of his supports and can’t even engage with him in the weekly discussions.  He’s lost himself to his survivor’s guilt and need for vengeance, considers himself to be nothing more than a monster, and has no qualms about killing if it helps advance his quest; as the story progresses, he faces a direct consequence for this murderous inclination in the form of Fleche who attempts to exact vengeance for her brother’s sake in the same way that he’s attempting to claim it for his family and friends -- only to lose Rodrigue, and have his dying words be a plea for Dimitri to live for himself rather than those who died before him, at which point Dimitri sets his sights on opposing Edelgard rather than killing her and seeing to atone for the crimes he committed.  While I think the game made the change a little too abrupt, it’s handled well overall, and shows a real development arc complete with both actions and their associated consequences that directly relate to Dimitri’s growth as a person.
Contrast this to Edelgard in general and Crimson Flower as a route.  Edelgard believes that she has all the answers despite not trying to engage with anyone outside her own House, decisively chooses what she believes to be the right and proper course of action regardless of how difficult the subject matter, possesses great strength (both physically and of sheer will) that she uses to dominate others, and forces others to join her in addressing what she sees as problems -- such as her line about making her own people into “worthy sacrifices” for her “higher cause.”  Crimson Flower is the only route where her attack on the monastery fails to capture Rhea, but once Byleth returns she sets her sights on attacking and subjugating a territory that has remained entirely neutral through the past five years, turns on the Twisted while she’s still in a vulnerable position which ultimately causes the deaths of at least a third of the forces she left at Arianrhod once they fire their warning shot, lies to her friends and allies about what happened there, murders her step-brother, and allows a city full of trapped civilians to burn unchecked while she deals with what she considers to be the “real” threat on the opposite side of the Faerghus capital -- and all of this is capped off with her never dealing with the Twisted, and cute little endcards that talk about how everything worked out fine and there were no problems ever, The End.  Edelgard doesn’t get a development arc in her route: she’s never challenged, she never faces real consequences (and the one she does face she literally lies about to her friends and then leaves as a problem to deal with later), and she pretty much ends the game exactly where she started it: completely assured that she made the right choices.  The moral ambiguity inherent in her character is instead cast as “of course she’s in the right, she’s so great and there’s nothing at all wrong with what she’s doing or how she’s going about it, isn’t she wonderful?”
At least in the main game, Hegemon Husk Edelgard is treated with real gravity, shown as the pinnacle of her drive to see her ambition come to fruition and the tragic consequence of her inability to change course and find another path.  The Forging Bonds event just takes the CF brush and paints her actions as the right ones, even though what made her so compelling is that her reasons were right while her methods were horrific.  Edelgard really could have been wonderful.  The potential is right there in her character.  But IntSys completely botched the execution of it, so that her route feels rushed, incomplete, and at best unsatisfying (or, if you’re me, utterly disgusting for how it glorifies imperialistic conquest), and her Heroes appearances only make it worse.

Ah, that's an interesting and cool HC for the rebuilt Hope's Peak Academy. Mine's a little similar in Gaiden, but there are differences. I didn't go into as much detail as you did, but I had Makoto abolish the Ultimate Talent System. Also in my continuity, the Future Foundation disbanded after the events of Future and Hope Arc. Part One
Tumblr media
I quite like the idea of Naegi naming some of the New Hope's Peak facilities in honor of students that were lost over the years. That's a headcanon I'd love to adopt into mine. Just off the top of my head, I can imagine:
- Chihiro Fujisaki Memorial Computer Lab
- Sayaka Maizono Memorial Music Room
- Sakura Ogami Memorial Gymnasium
- Juzo Sakakura Memorial Training Facility (for weights and other machines)
- Hifumi Yamada Memorial Art Lab
- Seiko Kimura Memorial Chemistry Lab
- Sonosuke Izayoi Memorial Shop Room (or "Industrial Arts Lab" if you like)
- Chiaki Nanami Memorial Lounge (I mean... "Gaming" is a recreational activity at its core)
You get the idea. There's a lot that can be mined there!
I was just recently thinking about what might've happened to the bodies in the morgue room and around the school, so that cemetery thing is quite timely. So you're picturing an indoor cemetery, or maybe something in an internal courtyard?
Specifically, I've been thinking about two groups of people who died at Hope's Peak: the victims of DR1 (the "Killing School Life") who are on ice in the morgue room on the top floor of the Old School Building, and the various people who died "secretly" prior to the start of the Tragedy.
- Once the DR1 survivors finally got out of the "Killing School Life" (at which point the building's defenses were deactiviated), the Future Foundation likely entered the Old School Building and retrieved the victims from the morgue room. After that, the bodies were likely returned to whatever family or next of kin was available, so long as someone still existed to return them to by that point.
That still leaves open questions about victims who may not have had any surviving family, though. Or those whose only surviving family member was "missing" at the time because they were abducted a couple years years prior and imprisoned in Towa City. What happens to them? ....... Maybe they set up a cemetery somewhere for those victims. There can't have been very many that fell into that narrow definition, right? I don't know if I imagine it being on Hope's Peak property, though. I think probably not; too much danger that some kind of Despair loyalists would attempt to desecrate the site.
- The last question on my mind about dead bodies at Hope's Peak concerns the people who died on the property prior to the official start of what we know as "The Tragedy." This would include the victims of the Student Council Killing Game, Yuto Kamishiro, Yasuke Matsuda, etc. And given that Hope's Peak successfully covered those deaths up, I decided that they were most likely quietly cremated. Even so, there's unlikely to be any documentation of what happened there, and now that they know about the Student Council Killing Game at the very least, I'm sure Makoto and the rest of the New Hope's Peak staff would want to make absolutely certain that there was no sign of any bodies interred on the HP grounds. I understand that there's a ground-penetrating radar that can detect bones... I imagine they'd need to get one of those.

I'm curious how the kid Kakashi would feel when he felt that his partner / friend was on Minato's team (I know it's 3 people, but I'd rather add one more); but it turns out that said infatuation feels a romantic attraction towards his rival Obito Uchiha. I love love triangles :)
I don’t see kid Kakashi getting crushes tbh? If you’re thinking the age he is during the Gaiden etc. He’s just very closed off and isolated and actively prevents himself from trying to get close to other people, so it’s hard to imagine him with a crush and then getting all jealous because they like Obito.
And another team member would really change the dynamic that was really set in stone by the show, so it would depend on what this new member would offer too. Given that Kakashi was the Sasuke of his generation, with the girls fawning over him etc, and there’s someone that doesn’t - that throws him off a little. It’s not enough to make him like them, but it’s endearing and refreshing, and maybe he does grow to like them as time goes on - so it is kind of a slap in the face when they like Obito? If it’s pre-Gaiden he just is a bit bewildered about it but it’s also complicated lol, he likes the crush, the crush likes Obito, Obito likes Rin, Rin likes Kakashi. So I don’t see him wanting to add to that drama, even at his young age.
Buuuuut I don’t really see him doing much about it. He’s just focused on his role as a shinobi and his missions and yeah I don’t see him doing much to try and change their mind. Like, he can only be who he is and he only shows off in his subtle way and that already hasn’t worked on them lmao and again, he’s not looking to get close to anybody like that. Maybe after the events of the gaiden, Kakashi might open up more, but he knows his crush liked Obito and he feels like he doesn’t deserve them anyway because he blames himself for the whole situation.
I’m sorry this one was kind of crappy but I don’t think there’s much to be said for this situation :(
(I do not love love-triangles. I want everybody to find someone special and be happy 😭)
