This moment felt so real. The weight of expectations to match up to the people around you just...

I love the genre of men where they regret bcs they're too late.
Good tasting angst. 11/10 would foresee this guy still not getting the girl

its probably a good thing this is a comedy first and foremost. while the sudden shifts in tone can be jarring i think it works to keep the absurd 'hey this is still a novel and its kind of stupid' tone. idk but i dont think it would work as well if all the outside drama used mostly to adavnce the plot is taken super seriously. its like.
stuff that directly effects the charcters [outside of dan-i] are taken and portrayed as serious bc to them it IS serious. if its her close friends dan-i takes it serious as well bc to her these are people she loves that are having issues.
but at the same time anything events that DONT effect the characters [or problems with characters she isnt close with] are not taken seriously and are usually treated as a bit, or at least in dan-i's eyes.
i think a good example of this would be ru-da, at the beginning when he called himself a monster dan-i was like. yea ^_^ you are kinda! and this is played like a joke. compared to a little later after they [dan-i, ru-da, and yeoryeong] get involved with people hunting ru-da down and they escape. ru-da is about to get into backstory and yeoryeong, even though she does not like him, is concerned. this is something that would advance the plot. dan-i however acts coldly and shuts him down saying it isnt her problem and she doesnt want to be involved.
this is the same situation as earlier but its treated differently, its treated seriously. this could be the fact that 1. shes gotten more involved with ru-da as a person than just a character nd 2. th efact yeoryeong is there [and at this point still thought of as a female lead in need of protecting].
but then you compare that to the party where we learn about ru-das mother. this is treated completely seriously without any rejection because at this point hes been accepted as more than just a character
ill have to think more about this, the way the comic is so aware of the genre and the tone of the story and how it really uses it to its full potential.
