Always a bit puzzled by people saying that anyone who wanted long-term consequences for TotK Zelda's sacrifice are "edgy".

I'm not even particularly in the camp that she should have remained a dragon forever (I think this should have been Ganondorf's fate, it would have been sooo much more impactful than to explode him and move on but anyway). To be honest, I wish the rules for turning back would have been 1) clear 2) active gameplay on the player so that it feels like it's something we have earned, and 3) not make her have amnesia about it and/or at least having her gain some crucial insight because of the experience.

(also: doesn't she crave knowledge? isn't that insanely mean to have her watch over every civilization and every bit of history ever and then take it away from her? kind of dislike how totk privileges the comfort of the player's feelings over what the characters would actually want or need tbh)

To be perfectly honest, I fully expected us needing to turn her back before engaging Ganondorf so we would fight him together, especially since Zelda as a compagnon exists in the game code already (though in a very subdued state). It feels very very strange to me that all of this mechanic of Sages following us existing and yet we never have the very climactic cool Zelda-staple moment of facing Ganondorf or Ganon together (OoT, WW, TP, ST and probably more that I'm forgetting all did this in some way --even BotW had Zelda more involved than in TotK). I'm not sure Mineru was a compagnon that was needed over Zelda honestly, especially given the kind of non-insight she gives us on the zonai (even if the idea of the mecha is cool, it really could have been Zelda using her zonai + sheikah knowledge to pilot one for us or something).

But anyway: yeah, even if this isn't what I would have wanted personally, I think wanting Zelda to remain a dragon is kind of arguably more respectful of her relationship to Link, in a way, that what the game ended up doing. When she enacted this sacrifice, Zelda decided to trust him to such a extent that she lost herself, reciprocated his trust in her and his devotion to her, and now the future of Hyrule exists beyond her and beyond what Hyrule once was, but she trusts them to follow through and be happy and she will watch over them from the stars moving on. It's fine if we manage to save her from that fate, but even if we don't, honestly this sounds like a beautiful story/tragic romance to me, if you want to read it that way. Tragedy doesn't necesserily involve edginess. Fictional pain isn't always mean, or out to get you.

In the spirit of the holiday season can we consider that Mercedes is a family BECAUSE the vibes are rancid not in spite of. They have that awkward family dinner thing going for them and I mean that with love.

just love hearing kieran culkin talk about succession/roman because he always talks about, like, the process of it and it’s so interesting — the scenes that are kept, the scenes that are taken out, the choices writers made he didn’t agree with, the choices he made that the writers (originally) didn’t agree with…. always really hammers in not only how collaborative the show is in that input from the actors is taken very seriously but also just how much culkin cares about roman like as a character? which i mean ya know all actors do. but culkin always talks about being a fan of the show first and an actor in it second and i think that’s such a huge thing. like, the way he cares about roman isn’t just as the actor playing him, it’s as a fan of the show — he’s approaching it not just from, like, a This Is My Job angle but also from the perspective of a fan who is just genuinely invested in the character of roman and would feel frustrated if they saw him do something that didn’t feel in-line with his character! kc would hate tumblr just like he hates all social media but he would indeed kill it on here

Finally, we get the opportunity to put our Spy Cards worldbuilding in a work. Though there are many questions about such things as "regulation" "how these cards are printed" "who approves a single spy card", and so on, we are here to present a bold new take: this game is based like 60% on obscure roach memory-reading tech that got turned into a card game with absolutely No card-game-related intentions included in the original tech and most of the card vetting is just from the fact that there aren't too many card printers out there and most of them make cards that need to be translated from Roach.

Strictly speaking, as a card game, it is not a terribly good or well-balanced one. It's popular primarily because of a mix of the difficulty involved in getting the data for high-level cards, the fun of seeing the variety of monsters that can be brought to the table, and the incredible amounts of ham and drama that goes into specifically the professional scene.

Hijacking this post to say that my pet theory is that to have 'revolutionary s*suke' at the forefront of your perception of sasuke you have to have entered naruto fandom before finishing naruto (probably because it was still in serialisation). Because reading the whole thing all the way through makes it pretty clear that s*suke's fatal flaw is his (completely understandable and fair, trauma-induced) decision to view everyone else as pawns. He's right about the system, but he can't be the one to fix it because he doesn't actually care or even really perceive the common individual. His sudden desire to be Hokage immediately after planning to massacre everyone in the village is a culmination of his fatal flaw, ie: that he wasn't a revolutionary for the people, he was a revolutionary against some fuckers. Which, again, completely just and reasonable, speak your truth king, but sasuke in power would have been a definite Bad End scenario for the average poor sod. Indeed the ideal scenario for s*suke is him getting to knock down the current corrupt system and then fuck of into the wilderness to pet crows and kick people he dislikes in the balls—which is pretty much what happens, bar the actual dismantling of the system because, yknow, b*ruto needed space to happen.

Wait this got away from me a little. What i wanted to bring this 'round to is that blaming any of team 7 for s*suke pushing them away is missing the point. He's traumatized. It makes him a bit of a dick in some situations. That's fine. Him not being perfect doesn't invalidate him being a victim or even a hero.

#naruto thoughts #similarly i think sakura stans got invested around the chunin exams arc and weren't prepared for shippuden #where she has a decent arc but is more of a side character than fellow protagonist #and they blame kakashi for it #which is funny #because you can tell that kishimoto intended to show that kakashi had taught sakura a lot - specifically around genjutsu #as shown during various moments of the chunin exams arc #but his complete inability to write female characters esp. them having more than one extremely limited skill #meant that a) her growth has to happen offscreen #and b) when he wanted to make her a medic she had to shelf every other skill #and as for weird naruto fans hyperfixating on one (1) decision by a guy to give a *teaching professional* the job of teaching his student #a subject he's not that great at teaching #before that student fights his friends student #while he focuses on preparing his dangerously obsessed other student for his death match against *a literal serial killer* #well. i don't think they understood that part #or the point of the rest of naruto for that matter

What's my biggest fantasy? Well I think it'd have to be... when my coworker messages "Can we start doing X?" even though I SENT HER the new workflow for X that just NEEDS HER APPROVAL (because IN THEORY she's supposed to own/direct X task and I'm just supposed to implement it) and every time she asks I reply to my own message saying "here in this very chat, right here, I sent you this new workflow. We cannot move forward on X until you review and approve it" and she goes like "Sorry I'll get right on that!" and then days later she messages me again asking "Can we start doing X?".... in my deepest darkest fantasies I tell her "scroll up in this very conversation and rephrase in your own words what I have messaged you so I can see that you have read my words and understand them".

And bonus whenever she sends me an urgent ask about a separate task/thing I need to fix I deeply, fervently fantasize about saying "Before I go drop everything to fix this, can you pause for a moment and read the message I sent you asking for your feedback on X that you left on read? Like you opened this chat, the message must be in front of your eyes, but clearly you did not pause to think 'oh before I ask this person to go do another task for me maybe I should look at the latest message in this chat to make sure I am not completely ignoring the ask they made of me that I keep somehow forgetting to do while still somehow remembering to ask 'can we start doing X' every few days'."
