fanfic readers need to try the 'treat writers like theyre people and not robots' challange because how fucking difficult is it to be decent? especially to someone who's art you take in and appreciate (or even if you dont)????
every day I get on this app and see some of yall treat writers like complete shit as if it doesnt take a huge mental load to write stories along with everything going on in real life? youre literally ruining it for yourself and others AND the writers
dear god

just gotta say the speculation into dans gender is really sad and hurtful to see. it genuinely bothers me that people really saw everything this man (and trans people) had to go thru over the past decade and said
"lets try that again but even worse this time!"
-
i have personally gone thru this kind of invasive speculation; being harassed into publicly answering questions i didn't even get a chance to ask myself.
every outfit. how my hair looked. the way i sit. how i carried myself. what my interests were. my sexuality. what position i prefer in bed. everything. everything was used to prove or dispute any speculation about me.
it was extremely traumatic, painful and scary
i wound up being forcibly outed and put into serious danger over stuff like this.
Please Stop
people can cross dress or be androgynous and still be cis/binary. and that is okay.

Something I wonder about is whether Metal Sonic / Overlord calling Tails "unworthy child" will ever be followed up on.
On the one hand, this happened so long ago that it would almost feel weird to bring it up now. On the other, it's such a cutting, damnig criticism that throwing it in and then doing nothing with it feels like there was a story that was intended but cut. It's hard to believe this was just put in there for no reason.
A huge part of Tails' backstory is that he has always looked up to, and wanted to be a hero like, Sonic. And he has felt at times that he falls short of this. His theme from the Adventure games touches on this: "I wanna be strong, I wanna be trusted [. . .] I wanna be cool, I also wanna be like him / but that's not something I can do so easily." His arc in the Adventure games is about him becoming a hero in his own way. He saves Station Square in SA1, he throws (mecha) hands with Eggman in solo showdowns multiple times in SA2, the final time coming right after he's made to believe Eggman just killed Sonic right in front of him. (Which is why his treatment in Forces is so infuriating, but! This is not the post for that.) Tails doesn't have Sonic's strengths, but that's okay, because he has his own strengths that Sonic doesn't have, and his Adventure theme touches on this, too. "There are things only I can do."
But although Tails does become a hero in his own right, and has so much more confidence in his strengths now than he used to, I think he could still struggle with the thought that he's not enough sometimes. As much as I fucking hate what Forces did to him, this arc in the comics still does directly follow Forces, wherein Sonic was captured and Tails couldn't do anything to help him. What does that say about him? How does that make him feel? Is he good enough? Does he deserve to be at Sonic's side?
The use of the word "unworthy" is a deliberate one. Metal isn't calling Tails stupid, or weak, or slow, or anything else that could be an easily dismissable, shallow insult. He's calling him unworthy. He's saying, maybe you are smart, fast, or strong. Maybe you can build computers and pilot airships and maybe even crash one into me. But you are still not good enough. You are still an unworthy child. It's such a deliberate precision strike against Tails' insecurities. Metal wasn't just lashing out. He somehow knew just how to hurt Tails and he stabbed into that squishy weak spot with extreme prejudice.
And then . . . nothing ever came of it.
Of course, literally 2 pages later we had Sonic hyping Tails up:
Tumblr media
So maybe that's why. Metal called him unworthy, but Sonic called what he did amazing. So . . . problem solved? I wouldn't think so, but I'm also not on the creative team for these comics, so 🤷‍♀️ If I was, Tails wouldn't be referred to as a "sidekick" in his cast blurb while everyone else gets to be called a hero (or heroine), lol.
But anyway, I don't know where I'm going with this. It's just something I was thinking about as I try to sleep despite my illness making that difficult.

"Kill The Moon" is an objectively stupid Doctor Who episode. it feels like an anti-abortion gotcha made up by someone who doesn't know how abortion or reality works. i get it - DW is a silly sci-fi romp for kids, logic doesn't matter. i know. i know so much pointless information about this show that i could get a fucking degree in Doctor Who-ology. but KTM is just a dumpster fire.
1) our moon is actually the last egg from an extinct (?) alien species, and it's about to hatch. okay, that's cool! it makes literally no sense, but it's a really neat premise.
2) we have an important choice to make. we either kill the unhatched alien (that we never wanted in the first place) so that everyone on Earth survives, or we let it hatch and probably (let's face it, definitely) die. this is an interesting dilemma. I wonder who we're going to leave the decision up to!
3) three random women. hmmmmm..... okay. it's an interesting coincidence, given the subject matter. they have to make a tactical, strategic choice that will save or destroy our planet, since the moon's gravitational pull is essential to life on Earth (tides, axial tilt). i wonder what plan they'll come up with!
4) they let it hatch.
5) yeah, you heard that right. instead of going with the obvious choice, which would be to kill the alien embryo and preserve the lives of 8 billion people, they literally just let it hatch and hope for the best. because of personal morality. because they felt bad.
6) and then they're rewarded for that decision. the ONLY reason that all life on our planet wasn't extinguished is because, by some fucking MIRACLE of biology, the alien embryo was mature enough to leave behind an egg that was as large as itself???? in the exact same location??? what???
and the whole time, the Doctor doesn't do a damn thing! he interferes all the time, but this time, he leaves them high and dry. he literally just ditches them on purpose. he leaves them alone and desperate, forcing them to make this impossible decision, presumably for their own benefit, even though they were (logically) about to die.
it's a mockery of the right to choose.
oh, and yes, the episode was written and produced solely by white British men.

Honestly ever person ever complaining about their m/f relationship being disrespected makes me slightly angry like go outside go touch grass go talk to your extended family. Like I’m lucky to not face much Homophobia in my family but like… we gay people are so obvious a minority. A minority within a minority isn’t bullying you enough to combat the big heterosexual outsides. Like if that’s your biggest pain issue and isolation that gay people aren’t celebrating and clapping for a relationship they will never have… Like my father side of the family is pretty big he has 6 siblings and all but one person were heterosexual partnered and all their children excluding 4 were also hetero partner like please go to one family birthday you will be very validated and celebrated for your relationship choices
I absolutely agree.
I don’t have a big family at all, to start with it’s small and to add onto that I’m just not in contact with most of them for various reasons. But when we did have family gatherings, all there was was straight couples. My older cousin would bring his girlfriend and it wasn’t just accepted but furthermore celebrated. Couples sat together and there’s apparently one couple in the family that’s heavy on the PDA, which made people uncomfortable not because of heterophobia but just because it’s PDA. In the case of a gay couple, they wouldn’t even think of expressing PDA around family or anywhere in public. Gay couples have to heavily consider if it’s safe to hold hands, for fucks sake. My mom knows somebody who still refers to his daughter’s wife as her “friend”. You never see that with straight couples.
Families always ask people—INCLUDING KIDS!!!—if they have an opposite sex partner. And they’re happy to hear the answer is yes. They don’t even consider that the person might have a same sex partner, and they might be hostile to the idea. But having an opposite sex partner is normal and even expected.
So after growing up with all this, being surrounded and suffocated by heterosexuality our whole damn lives, is it really surprising that gay people mock straight couples? Is it really surprising we don’t give a shit about them? No. It’s also not an issue at all, because as you said, if OSA people are offended they can just go literally anywhere else to get pats on the back for their straight relationships. Opposite sex relationships are celebrated everywhere, and OSA people will live if a couple gay people don’t participate in the celebration.

(Not so) friendly reminder that Robert Kirkman himself said that seeing Carl get sexually assaulted is the “most horrific thing [Rick] thought could ever happen”, and yet the show still refuses to acknowledge it whatsoever.

The shells in tmnt 2012 really bother me. Like. Okay. There is a problem with ninjas with non-flexible shells that's sort of baked into the franchise.
03 and 87 both do a rigid carapace, flexible plastron, vestigial/non-existent bridge thing. This manages to look okay! I think because, talking as someone who grew up with tortoises, you at least don't see their plastrons so much. So plastrons flexing doesn't get the visceral "oh that is so wrong" that carapaces do. It makes them going into their shells look weird, though. 03 turtles just don't do that, 87 go with looking weird (the artists clearly did not have a reference sheet for this).
tmnt vs batman does this surprisingly well, actually. They also do the rigid carapace, flexible plastron, non-existent bridge. And if you look closely the bridge sort of closes up when they go into their shells, their carapace and plastron meeting and making them a bit flatter. If you don't look closely you wouldn't notice they've cheated and the turtles look good in their shells.
Rise does the fully enclosing accurate turtle shells (well, accurate for everyone except Donnie, who ought to have a vestigial bridge and a vestigial plastron as a softshell). And they do flex. And aside from one highly disturbing time when they definitely did that on purpose as a joke (Leo stretches his shell complete with spine crunching noise) they get away with it. It helps a lot that they live in a flexible world. Laptops flex. Phones flex. Walls flex if you hit them right. Sure, shells flex, it's probably not real flexing just flexible vibes.
12 runs into a few problems which mostly boil down to being 3D. The fully enclosing shells look really nice in 2D or even in still 3D images. But as is the nature of 3D it's not a case of someone drawing this out and deciding when to flex the shell to make something work, the shell has been modelled as flexible. Once you notice it you notice the shell flexing in scenes where it wouldn't have made a difference if the shell had been rigid. The carapace twists slightly over the hips as they run, bends at the waist when a turtle looks back over his shoulder, dents slightly when they go into their turtley crouch on all fours on anything but a level surface.
These guys have shells the consistency of a wellington boot.

I'm so tired of the way people display love in the media. Just. Just give me more genuine affection. Conditionless, gentle, normal love.
Love that starts young. Give me "They dated in high-school and stayed together till college". Give me "They dated briefly before they broke up, but later, when they where older, they met and tried again. Give me "They started out friends for years and years, before one asked the other on a date and the rest is history."
Give me gentle touches and praise, casual compliments. A kiss on the cheek in passing. A rub on the back when one leaves the room. Shouted "love you!"s as one leaves the house for any extended period of time. Give me long days where they both work themselves silly and come home to make a bare minimum dinner and stumbled to bed. Give me disagreements resolved normally or paused halfway through for a breather only to co.e back with a cooler head to sit down and discuss it. Give me tickle fights and bad puns and grocery store dates. Give me ordinary, calm, relationships.
Give me good relationships with in-laws. Sister-in-laws who go on girls days together and make fun of each other. Give me mother and father in-laws who adopt and advise and feed and worry over and care for their daughter/son/kid-in-laws like their own kids.
Give me actually good relationships with siblings. Relationships forged through fire. Big brother who show gruff affection, but their whole family knows their tells. Give me big sisters who have good relationships with their younger siblings. Give me aunts and uncles who don't like babies, but love their nieces and nephews.
Gives me love between friends. Friends who just met but already are thick as theives. Give me childhood friends who act more like siblings. Give me friends who squabble constantly, but rarely fight. Give me friends with a massive age/maturity gap. Give me friends who love each other deeply, who are kind and reasonable and don't turn their back on them. Give me friends with wildly different circles who are still friends despite it all. Who can go months and weeks without talking or seeing each other, but as soon as they see each other it's like no time has past.
Give me parents who reach out to all children in their kids friend groups. Give me parents whose children trust them. Give me parents as a support network for their children and their children's friends. Give me tightly knit communities that really, truly support each other.
Give me all kinds of loves. Love in families. Love in communities. Love within friend groups. Love between new family members. Love between new friends and old.
Show me real healthy love, that doesn't make you doubt or question.
