My page for @destinytriofanzine! I drew something about kids always dreaming of far off places

#kingdom hearts #kh #ahh this one was so hard to draw; i never know how to combine a bunch of scenes in one picture without it looking cheesy #just threw a bunch of waves and leaves and birds on top and called it a day haha. it might be a bit too busy though #the white line going up the center is supposed to be a trail left behind by the gummi ship! it connects to the ship in the bg at the top #it's kinda meant to evoke little kids dreaming of other places-> getting older and earnestly making the raft to try to reach the dream #->the gummi ship as a premonition of how they'd actually reach the dream in the future. i guess? idk how to explain #and i really wanted to have kairi's expressions be really similar but changing subtly from wonder to worry when she's older #the boys are just max enthusiasm the whole time #but yeah. something something Symbolism and hopefully it's at least kinda pretty if it doesn't make sense #i'm just super proud to have been part of this project! everyone's work is just amazing #the destiny kids give me this soft feeling of kinda lonely nostalgia. it's nice to have a book full of that #very wistful looking through it #fan art #my art #project stuff

lately i've been adding a lot of foreshadowing in my post idk for funsies. i also love pushing relight to get really sharp shadows. however, in the first photo i needed to work some photoshop magic. as for drawing, i tried to doodle in like glistening tears. this post i tried aiming for like an old hollywood-esque vibe and yeah! fun tings!

#i went in with the mindset that this wouldn't be a low exposure photo but tbh i was sold in the first photo #low exposure idk just gives me a sense of yearning or nostalgia #before and after

sooo glad we live in the universe where twdgs4 was rewritten to be about saving the school instead of the original lis2-esque on the road each-episode-is-a-new-location plot. really dodged a bullet there

dont know if it was due to the cuts and collapsing work environment (no budget for all the assets needed) or what but the school plot is just like the perfect setting for her to end her story. and we really almost got a plot about her.... just trying to make it back to her original house? oof

#my biggest problem with lis2 is that being on the road made a lot of your choices essentially meaningless #like wheres the threat of consequence when you know youll be gone by the next episode anyway?#the kids were originally gonna kick them out permanently.......Nightmare Scenario #the plot of her trying to get back 'home' is so silly honestly like its Just nostalgia/fan bait. convince me otherwise you cant #it makes no sense....she lived right outside a major city... that place is Not safe anymore #it wasnt even safe when she left it 8 years ago girl why would you go back #her finding a place to MAKE a new home and having to fight for it? with a community of her peers who love and respect her? so much better #shes a community leader now :) of a bunch of kids living secretly in the woods just trying to make a safe home for themselves #in a hostile world that wants them dead #love that for her #shes been managing adults since she was 11 and even before that tried to be a voice of reason. at 8 years old. community leader makes sense #s4 is just so narratively sound to me for clems character that i cant believe there was ever any other direction they wanted to go in #every time im thinking about how good s4 is i remember what it almost was......... and i am so grateful we got what we did #not only do we live in the universe where s4 is about the school but we Also live in the universe where s4 was un-cancelled :) yay #shit makes me so happy man. i remember clem is living happily at ericsons and my day is Immediately improved #these little fictional bitches in my head giving me free serotonin on command #it speaks #twdg

something i keep thinking about as i replay dark souls 1 in ng+ is how at any given point in a soulsborne game I'm going "wow i hate this area, i can't believe they put in such and such an enemy, ridiculous, What Do You Mean I Have To Climb Out Of Blightown" and I'm just low key annoyed all the time, BUT the overall lasting impression i come away with is generally "that place was super cool! i can't wait to go back someday". i really love how that is the typical from soft experience for me

dark souls 1 probably has this the most which is why it remains the best of the games for me

(castle sol is a glaring exception to this. seriously fuck that place)

#soulsborne #mp #gaming stuff #demon's souls is probably my fave purely for nostalgia #dark souls is the better game i think #bloodborne is second #ds3 and er are good but i wasn't a huge fan of the shift towards ds and bb hybrid they are in the combat #i love the slower huge bosses from the earlier ones #it gives me a better sense of being just a little guy in a world of giants

sometimes you watch a classic movie and you're like "wow, this is totally fantastic! i get it now!" and other times you're like "wow, this is shit. people thought this was good? it didn't even accomplish what it seemingly set out to do." and sometimes the second category gets the addendum "well, at least it was pretty."

#and listen this isnt even me being like 'huuuhhhghh modern movie better' because yall Know im not like that #i cant fit in all the nuance i Want to fit in in these tags #i cant word what i want to say correctly #i guess what im trying to get at is #old movies that are significant for one reason or another can continue to stay so even in the modern day #and their messaging/etc holds up significantly well despite being from a totally different time #other times. well other times i have to question why audiences at the time found these movies so groundbreaking.#and how today people could uphold those movies. even with nostalgia invovled.#does any of that make sense.#anyway give me old movie recommendations :)

it happened. my little sister has joined the bad buddy fandom.

we watched ep 11, we cried, then proceeded to talk for 3 hours (yes, three!) about bad buddy, im talking the fandom, the fic landscape, then nonstop just analysis, the themes present, the dynamics and relationships, the character building. basically fawning for hours about how incredibly crafted the show is. she’s an english lit major and a fic writer so she goes fucking ham on this kind of stuff, to the point where she said things that even had me shook bc like… not even to see the show through somebody else’s lens, but through someone that understands writing on an academic level and how she applies that appreciates it, it was just so interesting to see the things she picked out and how she applied them.

so yeah, she’s come out of it with a rudimentary fic idea, a dissertation’s-worth of analysis to write and a whole list of taylor swift edits to make, so get ready.
