i had an odd dream about ralsei

(edit): more context has been requested! it was a dream about chapter 3 and i dont remember much other than ralsei splitting in two, or budding off? and the original ralsei stayed with kris while the new ralsei went elsewhere with susie. at one point a cutscene played where ralsei 2 slowly approached susie from behind, a furious expression on his face, and as he reached her the screen went black....

hiding ur eyes in deltarune

random thought, everyone of the main team in deltarune hides their eyes or face in some way, except for noelle.

kris and susie have hair in their eyes, and ralsei has his hat. each of them also noticeably SHOW their eyes at some point.

my leetle mini theory about this is that hiding your eyes is equivalent to hiding your true self:

-susie’s eyes are shown late in ch1 when she starts opening up to kris and ralsei; 

-ralsei takes his hat off at the end of the game, and it never fully hides his eyes. he’s been mostly honest, but he’s never fully revealed himself before

-kris is posessed BUT when they take out their soul you can see them for presumably obvious reasons

but my question is about NOELLE because WHAT THE SHIT IS UP WITH HER????

well i like to think noelle doesn’t try to hide stuff from people much. she’s genuine, especially around KRIS. in all of their interactions, which is a lot of noelle’s screen time in this chapter, we see her being real and so her eyes aren’t hidden. but what’s confusing is that, we know noelle isn’t being entirely true to herself around many other people. kris is the exception. so why arent her eyes ever hidden either????

so i didn’t include him because he’s not a party member, and he’s the most complicated of all these BAR RALSEI so let me explain.

berdly doesn’t hide his eyes, but he has colored glasses. In a way, he’s not HIDING his eyes, only changing how they look. Berdly isn’t hiding who he is entirely, he’s showing everyone who he WANTS to be. It’s only dishonest by it being not who he IS. His glasses distort how he looks, and he distorts his image by claiming he’s better than he actually is. 

He never takes off his glasses because he can’t admit to himself that he’s not perfect or special. Even when he’s being honest, he still inflates his image. When he describes how he’s not as smart as he says he is, he emphasizes the attention he got for WINNING and being SPECIAL. The glasses grab attention but don’t show the true colors underneath. He admits Noelle helped him study, but never says he isn’t smart.

If you want to extend the glasses theory to other characters, which I DO NOT BUT I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE, it would also apply to Ralsei. He’s been peeling back the layers of who he is, starting completely shrouded in a hood with nothing visible at all, and slowly working his way up to taking off his hat, but he still has his glases. They aren’t colored, they don’t distort him, which is why I DO NOT LIKE THIS, but it would also support the idea that Ralsei knows more than he’s letting on.

its only there for a second but you could use this for a ton of theories. my main one being that kris just prefers being in the dark world

in hometown, even if they’re not hated, not many people really like them all that much. almost every time kris talks to someone they bring up asriel and how great he was. i think kris might have a bit of resentment for that treatment

also in hometown, kris is significantly different, just for the fact that they’re human. this fact also probably makes them uncomfortable, as seen in the library when kris sees photos of humans in a book and immediately slams it shut. we can make the assumption that kris isnt even that big a fan of themself in the light world because of those things. its home, but not the best one

but in the dark world, those things dont apply. nobody there knows asriel, so they dont compare kris to their brother or bring him up all the time. kris isnt just a weird human there, they’re a hero and a lightener. people like kris and want to be their friend, which isnt a thing many people want back in hometown

in the dark world also, they do a lot of things independently of our control. they defend susie, they deny talking about susie with ralsei in snowgrave, and they show expressions that the others notice and comment on. kris, in the dark world, has more control. we dont see them do these things much outside of the endings where they physically remove their soul

kris is more comfortable being themself in the dark world, even if they can’t do it most of the time because of us. the dark world is an escape from comparisons and expectations where they can be a hero instead of the weird human next door who follows around their perfect brother

YUUUUS I was hoping someone would ask about King! I have a fair few things to say about him, hehe...

This is sorta canon already, as a few of King's face sprites do show this, but I think King has a couple scars on his face. Whether they're from when he battled the other kings or he got them as a result of his battle with Kris, Susie, and Ralsei, he has scars on his face.

King and Queen divorced when Lancer was about two or three years old, maybe four. This way, Lancer is old enough to know who his mother is, but not necessarily old enough to have a true bond with her or know her extremely well. Lancer calls all of his parental figures "Dad" in some way, and by the end of Chapter 2, Lancer is calling Queen "Girldad" instead of just "Mom" or "Mother".

King was, at one point or another, a truly good father to Lancer. I do not care what some people in the UT/DR fandom say. I will stand behind this opinion/piece of lore until the day I die. I mean, who gave Lancer his bike? Rouxls Kaard? Rouxls Kaard doesn't strike me as the type who would gift Lancer a bike. Rouxls Kaard is nice to Lancer, sure, and he may seem to like Lancer and actively care for him, but still. Another possibility is that it was Queen, but ehhh...I'm not too sure about her either. We know very little about King's backstory. It's entirely possible that he treated Lancer as a true son and gifted him his bike.

I think King was temporarily controlled by the Knight during his boss fight in Chapter 1. If King was not ever controlled by the Knight, he at least has some strong connection to them. He literally praises the Knight during his battle. He is the only Darkner who has done so, at least so far. Call me crazy, but I believe King will rebel against the Knight by the end of the game. I don't have any reason as to why King would do this, but I'm sure Lancer will have something to do with it.

King may or may not know some of the Lightners from Hometown. I saw a post someone made about how a few Lightners were aware of the Dark World long before Kris, Susie, Noelle, and Berdly came along, and it definitely could be a possibility. We don't know how long the lifespans of Darkners are. Since they're based off of objects from Hometown, they could be centuries old as far as we know.

Going back to Lancer, King, and the Knight for a minute, I don't think King was a horrible father to Lancer at all. I believe the Knight had some say in imprisoning the other kings and having King himself rule with an iron fist, but even then, King was still not a horrible father to Lancer. There are some subtle things in the game that hint at this. And besides, if King was as horrible of a father as some make him out to be, Lancer would likely be much more willing to let Susie, Kris, and Ralsei meet King and knock some sense into him. But Lancer is not like this at all. He's the complete opposite. He only lets Susie, Kris, and Ralsei free once he is fully convinced everything will turn out okay.

Before the other kings were locked up, King got along decently with them. I wouldn't say they were best buddies, but they had to at least tolerate one other, since they were all ruling the Dark World together at one point. I think Jevil went insane and was imprisoned when all four kings were ruling together.

Speaking of the other kings, I wouldn't be surprised if King knew them ever since they were all kids. Granted, we know absolutely nothing about King's childhood, so this is more of a headcannon than simply lore, but I think this has some possibility.

King knows some of the Darkners from Cyber World. He obviously knows about Queen lol, but he could know of a few others as well. Tasque Manager is one possibility, as she is aware of Jevil. I think all Dark Worlds are connected together in some fashion.

That's all I can think of for now. I may have more lore ideas/opinions, but this is what you'll get right now. Thanks for the suggestion ^-^!

im getting really off-track here and am sorry to disturb from the main storyline but im very curious what fate ralsei holds in your universe because i think? this is one of the most unique endings i saw him getting? not that ive seen much besides all of the fountains closing or rals being a villain/someone from ut partially i just wanna know how he's doing. he seemed so disappointed when leaving

ANYWAY. Ralsie (at this point he's been reunited with the kids at the end of the battle. i DO have art for that but i'm just going to show the aftermath)

anyway with Tazetta being crowned princess and given a fresh new life, (again, details vauge cause it's a cute scene that works best with full context) she and ralsei are set up to be new siblings -a brother and a sister!

Kris and Susie got the chance to be proper heroes to defeat Gaster (saving Ralsie in the process) so everyone's on good terms -Susie feels redeemed for attacking Feylow and Knight-Kris (Knis???), Kris got a big Hero Moment and feels validated in their ability to choose their destiny, Ralsei gets to feel the prophecy wasn't a total lie, and he's been given a full chance to live his own life now without the Knight being a turd about it

anyway with the Knight

(AGAIN trying my best not to spoil the scene (fine with talking story beats but not in detail) so deal with being out of context as possible) the knight literally ends the fight by putting gaster in a time out and deciding to become a better person for the darkner's benefit.

yeah. jeeze. really wild how chapter 2 completely recontextualized things huh.

Also, since it's been a year :grimace emoji: i can saftely say the knight is WAY out of character and way to nice and "forgivable" in this dark world. back then I was thinking: "hm, maybe the Knight can be more redeemed and once in Darkworld, they could have a change of heart :)"

yeah thats. that's WAY off the table for Angel's Lullaby as it is now. the "will they or won't they redeem themself" is still on the table but its a WAY bigger fight to accomplish (or fail) than what was depicted here, sharing Kris' SOUL or not.

I think i was just toying with the idea of the Knight's redemption to foreshadow Asriel being flowey and not believing their SOUL was real. I felt this would help justify/foreshadow why Asriel was wrong ahead of time. or something. now i just think it hurts the story by having the knight involved, it undermines that story's intentional confusion if Asriel was right or not a ton!

yeah a big reason why the DW arc was Bad was because 1) outdated for both Angel's AND deltarune LMAO 2) bad in context of Asriel's arc 3) Feylow is kinda a big mess and overly ambitious of a writing metaphor for my skill level at the time 4) litearllyyyy hate the narrative i built for frisk and ralsei and i couldn't really salvage that x-x

Deltarune Theory: Ralsei is a guide for the script

It feels crazy that Deltarune Chapter 2 has only been out for like, what, two weeks? As of the time I’m writing this, and yet, there has already been so much secret hunting and speculation over this. Not even the full game, and people already go crazy over it. Naturally, I am part of this craze. In fact I was one of the people that played it as soon as it dropped.

And, I thought it was only me, but, at least for a little while, Ralsei’s behavior struck me as… odd. Not outwardly malicious, but just… odd. Particularly the first bit of the game, it was just so… happy and convenient? And Ralsei was at the center of it all, orchestrating it, making sure everything happened accordingly.

Eventually, that initial feeling of distrust went away, but… not quite. And it seems a lot of people began to feel the same way, pointing out bits about Ralsei that are just… out of place. Things that didn’t seem to stand out in the first chapter, are now popping out about him.

Questions include:

How does he know about what’s outside the Dark World, about the school?

How does he know about the game mechanics and call them out by names?

Why is he so interested in keeping the balance between only Kris acting and him and Susie doing magic?

Why does he seem so eager to dismiss what happened with Spamton NEO?

Why doesn’t he turn into stone or even get weak at any point during the time he spends in Cyber World?

Are the parts of his name and design connecting to the Dreemurr’s intentional, and if so, what does that mean for his relation to Kris?

How and why does he take player control away to look at what Susie is doing? Why must he wait until Kris is willing to do it? What does he tell them when he succeeds in this?

Now, I don’t intend to pose here “a supreme theory to rule them all”, I’m just a guy having fun and I’ve seen people voice particularly similar ideas to this one I’ve had, so I want to at least try to answer these questions through a relatively simple idea that would, almost entirely, immediately answer ALMOST all the doubts.

First, let’s start with some steps to build up this idea. For one, we know for a fact that Ralsei holds knowledge over game mechanics and may even break the fourth wall at times.

But we also know that Ralsei’s design resembles a lot of characters from Undertale we know and were fond of. For one, he can be likened to Toriel in the sense that he is the one to give you the first tutorial of the game and his clothes resemble her original outfit as well. Another connection, much more common, that people have made is that he is like Asriel, no doubt due to his name being an anagram, but also due to the fact he is also a cute young goat.

I would like to do a complete turn around here though, and say I do not think any of this points to Ralsei being related to Kris in the familial sense, for more than one reason, but my main one being that I don’t think Toby would be as frankly disgusting as to imply such a thing when there is so so much teasing in the direction of Ralsei possibly having a crush on Kris. I mean… really, Toby?

You know, I’m not too sure this would be the smartest idea, Mr. Fox, but alright.

However, I do think all these hints in his design and name have a purpose. And it has to do with how us, the fandom, see these two characters. For one, they are very beloved characters, and Toriel is one that we associate with her tutorials and guidance, whereas Asriel is one that people have yearned to see more in action. They are back, in a sense, but not present in our adventures so far.

What I’m getting at is that Ralsei is specifically designed to be the darling of the fandom. He is made to be loved, to be trusted, to cause feelings in us that make us want to protect him and accept his advice. This, in a way, also affects the in-universe characters who see him, as Susie put it: “as a big portable teddy bear”, whose job is “giving hugs”.

And I don’t just mean this in a character design way, like “oh wow Toby was so smart to make a perfectly marketable boy!” No. I think Ralsei exists as a meta element, his form being a direct manifestation of what we want to see.

He looks like that because he wants us to see him and lower our guard and expect his guidance. Remember how his form was shadowy and vague throughout all of chapter 1 until the very end of it and how he poofs into nothing but a pile of clothes in both chapters so far, no matter what form he’s in? What if he’s a shapeshifter? What if Ralsei isn’t even his real name? That certainly would explain why he says he doesn’t know what being Ralsei-like is like.

Ralsei? Ralsei? Oh God he’s gone.

Now, do I think he’s lowering our guard in the sense of leaving us vulnerable for an attack? Not exactly. I think it's so we learn to accept him…

Accept that he is a GUIDE for the game’s script. His entire existence hinges on guiding the main characters, specially Kris, throughout the story, and making sure the whole story, all seven chapters, play out exactly as planned.

You see, Ralsei isn’t evil. His goal is pretty simple, actually: guide us, the player, throughout the game, making us feel as safe and happy and secure. In that sense, of course he pushes so hard towards the pacifist route. After all, that’s the one that’s closer to a completionist route, as the sparing + recruiting mechanic adds more characters to your town, and therefore more content. He wants you to see all this content and get the most enjoyment out of it. His code urges him to bring you the best experience possible.

This would also answer why he does that thing with taking our control away from Kris and to watch Susie’s shenanigans. Because it’s satisfying to us. Notice how stressed out and pushy he gets in the alternate route when Susie comes out of Noelle’s room without being able to let us see what happened. He knows he messed up, something went wrong. He was supposed to let us see, so that we wouldn’t be bored, because God forbid the players be bored.

Just imagine this going through his head.

He also seems to genuinely care about Kris and Susie, and with good reason, as he knows these are the protagonists, and he is supposed to care for their well being too and ensure they reach their goal. I do think, however, there is a good amount of being genuine in his care, as he has no reason to react so boldly sometimes to either of them, showing outrage or affection in pretty telling ways. He isn’t heartless despite carrying out this job.

However it is also worth noting, for all his care, he cannot do the one thing that Kris would desire the most: free them from our grasp. And that is his ultimate failure towards them, and may end up creating conflict later on in the game.

From, here, there are two possible pathways:

Ralsei does not know about the dilemma Kris is going through, and believes Kris is entirely oblivious and passive towards being in a video game. He may even end up being the final boss to fight, as he desperately tries to keep everything on rails while Kris very much does not care for any of that.

Ralsei is entirely aware of what’s going on with Kris, after all, everything in a game’s design is planned, even the cutscenes, therefore even Kris’ struggles. Ralsei knows of the fate that lies ahead, that Kris will eventually be free, how it all ends. But to get there… is still a road ahead.

I think Ralsei’s affection towards Kris will definitely be explored in the later chapters. Not just because of the teasing we’ve been getting, but, if Ralsei really is a guide of the game’s code and script, what would that mean for him to get so attached towards the character the player is controlling?

Ralsei will have to make a choice. He will either recognize Kris is suffering and cannot wait any longer, or be faced with possibly having to fight them himself. This is why those two pathways matter as well. If he doesn’t know, his choice will come later and it will be an unpleasant surprise for him to find out the game universe is breaking apart around him with the self awareness of certain characters. If he does know, however, his choice is NOW, and waiting for the inevitable will be torture.

Just how long until he breaks? Or will he keep the facade until the very last chapter?

Like I said, I don’t intend this theory to be the biggest, most revealing and coherent theory. But… It could add a very interesting layer to Ralsei’s character, as well as answer many questions posed beforehand. He knows the school layout and game controls because he is part of the code. He can get to the other Dark World’s easily and remain unharmed because the game demands him to be. He looks like this so that we love him. He wants to give us the most fulfilling Castle Town so that we will love the game. He doesn’t protest even when Kris does things like try to give him the thorn ring, because to him, everything will be okay anyway. Everything he is, is for us. He isn’t evil or malicious per se, he just opposes Kris’ biggest need.

But he may have gotten himself attached. And that may be a clue to sparing him if he does become a final boss.

But! Tell me what you thought of this theory! Do you think it’s way too weird and farfetched, or do you think it’s possible that it could happen? Or maybe you agree with some stuff but not with other stuff? Go ahead and tell me!

what the hell did asgore do??? not only did toriel divorce him and kick him out, but according to the clippings on the police station’s wall he was “removed from the force”????

kris opening up that dark fountain in their house... does that mean that they’ve been the knight all along, or did they just realize from what queen said - that everyone with sufficient amounts of determination can create dark fountains - that they can also do it? also why did they open the front door before doing it?

i like the theory that dess’s full name is december, and that that’s why noelle failed the spelling contest: having to spell the name of her sister who had presumably died not long ago made her freeze up

i know i already said that ralsei’s almost-constantly-smiling sprite makes him come across as insincere to me, but another thing that makes me a little suspicious of him is how he acts after the spamton NEO fight - the way he tells kris to not think about it, that it probably wasn’t anything important. it could be just him wanting kris to feel better over everything else, but...yeah, it’s a little suspicious to me

i’m sorry but berdly’s “backstory” really didn’t do much in making me care for him. probably because in the end he barely changes - he just starts crushing on someone else. remember that whole “stop assuming you know what i want or what’s best for me” thing noelle said to queen? she should’ve also said it to berdly. because the problem with berdly isn’t just that he thinks he’s smarter and therefore better than everyone else, it’s also that he walks over noelle, doesn’t listen to her and just assumes that he knows what she wants and what’s best for her, and that behavior of his is never challenged and i wish it had been. literally the only time i found berdly to be bearable was during the snowgrave route, ie. when he actually notices that noelle is Not Okay, and shows actual concern for her wellbeing, and puts his life one the line to help her

the gamer™ jokes and jabs are fucking hilarious btw, i fucking lost it when the queen admitted to berdly she only plays mobile games

i’ve seen a lot of people sort of mocking the “your choices don’t matter” line since the discovery of the snowgrave route, like “lmao way to claim that our choices don’t matter while including an optional route toby lol”, but...it’s not toby who said that though, was it? it’s the voice in the beginning of chapter 1, and we don’t know who it belongs to and therefore don’t know if they’re in any way trustworthy. hell, ralsei says in ch 1 that he believes that your/kris’s choices DO matter, and that “in the end, how we treat [other people] makes all the difference”. and he also tells you that if you go out of your way to hurt other people, “you may not...find the result favorable”. so personally i feel like the existence of the snowgrave route does not in any way undermine anything that’s been established before

how bout some in general headcannons for deltarune? Do you like chapter 1 or chapter 2 better?

I like chapter 2 better than chapter 1 because it feels larger and more polished. As for general headcannons?

1. Ralsei is a sneaky bastard and you cannot convince me otherwise. He knows too much, he keeps showing up, and he walks with his hands behind his back. Nobody does that unless they're evil! I don't think he's outright evil, but he is definitely NOT telling the truth/the whole story. Also what's in his basement? WHAT'S IN THE BASEMENT GOAT BOY?!?!

2. Spamton & the Addisons are brothers - this is my personal take. I like the idea of family drama and family fluff and reuniting etc. etc., it just gives me warm fuzzies to think of them accepting him back, as you can see from Warning: Battery Low. Which is going to make my other story (working title is Begrudge) an exercise in imagination, because while there is a family reunion, it is not a happy one. ;3

3. Queen was NOT married to Spade King. I get that they're king and queen, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Also she doesn't seem to recognize Lancer at all or really acknowledge him until Castle Town (unless I'm forgetting something?). I also don't think she's a completely batshit insane evil ruler, I think SHE thinks she's a benevolent ruler, but is working in what she believes the best interests of her people are, not what they actually are. Also what the hell is her dialogue? I have so much trouble writing her, otherwise she would have been in more of W:BL.

4. Swatch is the Swatchlings eldest brother, and they care deeply for them. They're not afraid of maice because they always had to protect their younger siblings from them. I do like Swatchton, but I in now way think it's cannon. They could have just as easily been good friends instead of lovers.

5. Susie + Noelle = adorable and I am rooting for them!

6. Mike is the TV character we see at the end of chapter 2 and will appear in chapter 3. This may be more of a hope than a headcannon, but damn am I hoping! I'm also really, REALLY hoping that Toby will see everyone's love for Jevil & Spamton (and the other five puppets to come) and will give them a happy ending through their armor/weapon returning them to their darkner form in the end and letting them live happily ever after in Castle Town.

7. Rouxls Kaard is an adorable squishy man who was abused at the hands of Spade King and is just trying to find a place in the world that fits him, and in doing so he comes across as insufferable and an asshole when really he's desperate to belong and have someone to serve. I think if some of the other characters offered him some patience and sympathy Rouxls could flourish in a job, but...he's just so oblivious about how others perceive him that he's never going to get the chance. Also he's hilarious and whenever I say 'God Dammit' now I do it with a pause between the words.

Deltarune Theories and Observations Part 2

Since it’s been like three weeks and this game still hasn’t left my god damn brain, here’s some more things that I felt like noting or theorizing.

~Parallels of Noelle and Kris~

So, I ended my last Deltarune longpost with a comparison between Kris and Susie. But, interestingly enough, Kris and Noelle also have a lot of similarities. Both of them have an older sibling figure who was a very prominent crutch in their lives (Asriel for Kris, Dess for Noelle). Yet, in present times, this elder sibling is not present (though Dess’ is a bit more permanent, whether she died or went missing.) And compared to these older siblings, Kris and Noelle are the more introverted sibling, with Kris barely having a social life until the start of the game and Noelle being the biggest pushover since a card tower. Then, there’s their parental dynamics. Asgore and Rudy are both the carefree, laidback father figures, with Asgore immediately throwing Kris in a bear hug when seeing them and Rudy encouraging Noelle to ask Susie out and playing Dragon Blazers with her. This contrasts with the more proper, if strict mother figures. While Noelle’s mother is certainly the more egregious, if the fact that Noelle would rather stand outside her home’s gates likely for hours on end than to attempt to ‘bother’ her mother during work for a house key, there are a few signs of Toriel being a little strict in some areas. Apart from some dialogue from Bratty about her kissing Asriel and anything involving the big school dance being signs that Toriel does not approve of her kids, or any of her students for that matter, getting into anything even remotely romantic, the flavor text for the closet in Kris’ Dark World room being ‘You could wear whatever you want’ suggests that Toriel imposes some sort of a dress code on Kris and likely also Asriel when he was living at home. They’re also the two characters most susceptible to the SOUL, in other words you the player. Kris’ is a bit more direct, as they are the character we control in both their movements and what they say. While Noelle, considering she has such a weak will, she is fairly mailable if we impose our will onto her, as demonstrated in the Pipis Route. Finally, they both have a strong attachment towards Susie, though whether Kris’ is romantic or not is not entirely clear as of yet. Oh, and speaking of Noelle...

~The Return of Noelle~

In at least one of the future chapters, I believe Noelle will make a come back as a party member. I don’t think Toby Fox would make it this easy to just lose whatever equipment you put on her, especially if you give her the Jevilstail or if the Pipis Route has been fully completed you will lose a component of the Twisted Sword, which will presumably be available in future chapters. Therefore, I believe that Noelle will be playable again, at least at some point.

~Misanthropic Dysmorphia~

So, many people have seen the connections that Kris has to Chara (or The Fallen Child) from Undertale. They both love chocolate, are the adopted children of Toriel and Asgore, and seem to have an affinity for knives. But if there is one more connection they have, it’s that they both seem to hate humans. Now, while don’t know the reasons as to why Chara hated humans, it was enough for them to want to slaughter an entire village of people, going overboard with the body count when only 6 souls were needed to break the barrier. While Kris likely isn’t as genocidal as Chara was, their distaste for humanity runs just as deep. However, Kris’ misanthropy manifests as a form of body dysmorphia. As a child, they wondered when their horns would grow in like their brother and parents, showing that, at least at that point Kris didn’t understand the biological differences between themself and those around them. Not only that, but in Chapter 2, when going upstairs in the library and reading the book ‘How to Care for Humans’, when looking at the pages Kris immediately closes the book when seeing the pictures of humans in seeming disgust. It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if Kris hates the fact that they’re human, seeing as that is the big thing that makes them an outsider to Hometown. It would also explain why they seem to hate the SOUL/Player, even if you play as pacifistically as possible and don’t do anything to intentionally upset Kris like throwing away the Ball of Junk in the Light World. After all, Kris’ description in the Dark World as soon as you enter it in Chapter 1 is ‘A body containing a human SOUL’. Apart from just generally being upset that some outside force is controlling their actions, Kris is also likely pissed that a human is the one controlling them, because, assumedly, you or anyone else that plays Deltarune is going to be a human. That could be just some extra salt in the wound, that even Kris’ own soul is not only human but not even their own.

~Darkner’s History(?)~

This is something strange that I don’t think a lot of people think about. So, I notice a lot of people point out that Ralsei knows that both his Dark Fountain and the Fountain from Chapter 1 are located in a supply closet and a classroom respectively. Most people point to this as evidence that Ralsei knows something, however Ralsei isn’t the only one with knowledge of the Light World. Queen does have a line or two about knowing that her Dark World is within a library. So clearly, Darkners have at least some awareness of the Light World, or at least enough about their enclosed spaces and possibly limited to appointed rulers or some such. What isn’t so clear is how long these Dark Worlds have lasted. Sure, portals to the Dark Worlds seem like only a recent thing, there is talk about the history of these characters. Just within Chapter 1 there’s King overthrowing the other three card kings and taking the throne all to himself, Jevil meeting a mysterious figure causing him to go mad and thus needing to be locked up by Seam, a presumably long series of puzzle makers syphoned out before Roulxs became the Duke of Puzzles, and some kind of falling out between Queen and King (which also brings up the question of when and why was Queen’s laptop in the abandoned classroom). My point being, despite these Dark Worlds being open for maybe a day or two at best, there seems to be almost years worth of history to these places. It could be a case of ‘one day passes inside, but only about an hour has passed outside’ thing or it could be that Dark Worlds still technically exists even without a Dark Fountain. So far, though, I can’t offer any concrete answers to this. And actually, since I brought up his suspicious behavior once again...

~Communication Issues~

I already talked about how Ralsei is suspicious in an out-of-universe perspective here, but in universe he is acting rather suspicious. Namely, around Susie. When Kris and Susie return to Castle Town, Ralsei tells Kris to gather everything in the adjacent classroom and bring it here. Everyone becomes their Darkner counterparts and Susie is naturally excited to see everyone, especially Lancer. Ralsei then says, and only says, that ‘when the Dark Fountain was sealed, that area returned to a normal classroom. And when Lancer decides to become one of you KEY ITEMS, Ralsei doesn’t explain that Darkners become regular objects in the Light World, causing Susie to think Lancer ditched them when Kris and Susie leave to work on their group project. And during the Chapter 2 epilogue, Susie even suggests finding a way to bring Ralsei and Lancer into the Light World, despite that seeming to be an impossibility. That’s not even mentioning the post Spamton NEO dialogue where Susie is the first to bring up the oddities of the whole scenario, and Ralsei immediately chooses to shoot down any questioning. Ralsei seemingly keeps Susie out of the loop on a lot of important things about how the Dark World works. Now, Susie doesn’t really question these things, but that’s mostly because 1. she is a very ‘only cares about the here and now’ type of person and is very excited about the whole Dark World shenanigans her, Kris and Ralsei get up to, and 2. this girl is dense enough to not immediately catch on the Noelle is crushing so hard on her a neon sign saying ‘SHE LIKES YOU’ would be a more subtle message. Now, it could be that Ralsei sees Susie in a much more ‘need to know’ basis, that since she is isn’t really the group plan-maker, she doesn’t need to know the intricacies of how the Dark Worlds, the Fountains, and everything works. It also could be that the player, and by extension Kris, are more important and thus will be needed this information more than Susie. However, I still hesitate to say that Ralsei is malicious in action. What I think would be the most likely reason, if his explanation of the Roaring and Queen’s reaction to it are any indication, it looks like Ralsei’s fatal flaw is assuming his knowledge is common knowledge. After all, he assumed that Queen was opening another Dark Fountain because she wanted to destroy the world, when that couldn’t be further from the case. In all likelihood, Ralsei could be overestimating how perceptive Susie really is when it comes to putting details together.

~Only One Ending...?~

This is something a few people have been debating for a while now. Back when Chapter 1 was released in 2018, Toby Fox said that Deltarune would only have one ending. However, with the addition of Chapter 2′s Pipis Route, many of us are wondering if that was a flat out lie or not. My assumption goes one of two ways. Option A: It was true at the time. During the three year development of Chapter 2 a lot, and I mean a LOT, of things about Deltarune have changed. Initially the game was going to be another mostly solo development similar to Undertale. But, with the larger workload and Toby Fox working on other projects like developing music for the Pokemon games, and on top of all of that going through some pretty bad wrist pains, Fox decided to get a small development team for Deltarune. There were debates on whether to switch Deltarune’s game engine to something like Unity, before settling back to Game Maker. And even when Chapter 1 was released, it was more of a proof of concept than anything, with barely any of the rest of the story being written down. It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if Toby Fox decided to add some more endings because he thought that would work better for what he was going for. Or, Option B: It will be one ending, but in the same way the Normal Ending in Undertale is ‘one ending’. See, while Deltarune likes to emphasize that ‘your choses don’t matter’ and in Undertale ‘your choses do matter’, in actuality, the choses in both games have roughly the same weight. Sure, in Undertale it seems like your choses have more of an impact, but the basic story beats of the game are all the same. You will always fall into the underground, get quasi-adopted by Toriel, go through a wacky puzzle romp with Papyrus, get hunted by Undyne through Waterfall, guest star in Mettaton’s shows with Alphys as your guide, and finally make it to New Home. And there were still some minor questions in Undertale that really had no bearing on what you answered, such as Toriel’s question of if you prefer cinnamon or butterscotch. But because Undertale frames it with ‘your choses matter’ and Deltarune frames it in ‘your choses don’t matter’ we see it as such. So, when it comes to the endings, there really are only three endings in Undertale. The True Genocide ending, where you go all the way through with killing everyone and everything in the Underground, the True Pacifist Ending, where you SPARED everything you came across and completed the necessary friendship side quests, and the Normal Ending. Now, the Normal Ending sounds like a pretty narrow term, considering there’s like at least around 10 different variations of this ending, but the basic plot beats are still the same: You finish the fight with Asgore, fight Omega Flowey, and using the power of the other six souls you (as Frisk) are able to return above ground. Most of what makes this ending different is pretty much flavor text at the very end, with Sans and which ever other characters that are alive/befriended chiming in. I feel like Deltarune’s ending could play out in a similar vein, with larger plot beats being consistent, but specific character’s reactions and what not would change up the ending slightly. And, if we are only given one ending, I feel like there would be a good reason to word it like that. Similarly to what was said some time after on Toby Fox’s twitter about the True Pacifist ending, ‘This is the best ending, nothing more’ when people were wondering if there was a way to save Asriel from his fate in the end. So, if we are told there will be only ‘one ending’ that implies that there’s going to be something we’ll want to change. And what will this change be? Well...

~Don’t Forget, I’m With You In The Dark~

I believe that the ending of Deltarune will involve sealing the Castle Town Fountain. A lot of what’s set up in Deltarune seems to be leading to this. From the suspiciousness of Ralsei, to the premonition of the world ending if too many fountains are open, to the fact that Darkners are unable to consciously interact with the Light World. I’m pretty sure that we’re going to have to say good bye to Ralsei, Lancer, Rouxls, Seam, Queen, and all the rest of the Darkners by the end. And let’s face it, this ending would be the best punch to the gut that the game could offer. But I don’t think it will be all sad. After all, the Darkners will still be with us in spirit, will still be with us in the dark.

The Theory About Steven, Pink-Steven And Their Mom

I was originally going to sign back on later after talking about well the other stuff I had posted and I wanted to wait to post the talk about the theory about Steven, Pink-Steven and Rose.

I first wanted to sign back in to edit one of the tags in the last post I had posted before I sign out, but then I decided to talk about the theory about Steven.

okay first of all we know the Crossover theory

about Sans and Steven being one and the same.

and Steven Quartz Universe spells out “Sans”

and it is possible that while one version of Steven never became Sans,

such as a version that lived in the Deltarune Timeline, and the Sans we see in that game might very well be a version of Steven that became Sans and is from the Undertale Genocide Timeline, that never had a neutral or pacifist run.

and Sans, his little brother and the rest of the survivors of that non-stop geno timeline had to escape into the Deltarune Timeline.

where there was another him, but the him that was born there was still Steven and never became a Sans.

anyway back to the theory about Steven, Pink-Steven and Rose.

even if it is said that Rose gave up her form to bring Steven into the world,

but what if that is only half true, we know that Pink-Steven

when he was reforming, he first appeared as Pink Diamond, Then Rose Quartz and lastly as Steven.

I believe that Pink-Steven might really be a Fragment from Rose,

when a soul is fragmented, it is likely to become a new being, one that isn’t 100% the same as their soul-parent.

we know that Rose has lied before, and she even kept what she did to Spinel a secret from the rest of the Crystal Gems.

I believe that Pink-Steven saying that she’s Gone, has more meaning than just her being “dead” and he might know what really happen to her.

in theory when Rose was still pregnant with Steven,

she secretly made another Pink Diamond that she put inside herself

and let it bond to Steven, then she fragmented a part of herself and place it in the New Pink Diamond that would be part of Steven.

then once again Rose fakes her death, and went to parts unknown.

maybe she could of escape to the Dark World in the Deltarune Timeline.

I do have another theory about the Dark World, that it might be the very place that Gaster was lost through Time and Space in.

we know that in the Chapter 1, when Susie and Kris got back there was no one at school and it was just them.

and Toriel calls when Kris is about to leave the school.

it is a theory, but it is possible when Kris and Susie entered that world...

their existence was forgotten, like at first they would be remembered,

and those who have been to the Dark World (or Dark Worlds) like them

will be able to be immune to the whole forgetting their existence.

so it is possible while Kris and Susie go back to Dark World,

and a hour passes when they are still there,

the only ones who will be able to remember them and freakout about everyone forgetting them....would be Noelle and Berdly.  

since those two had ended up in the Cyber-Dark World.

they might end up becoming immune to the effects the Dark World/Void.

if Berdly asks whats taking Susie and Kris so long,

I would imagine that everyone (but Noelle) would look at him like he was crazy and wondering who are Kris and Susie.

so yeah I believe that the Dark World, might be the Void.

and it has the ability to cause those outside it, to get amnesia of a person who enters that world....

the only way someone from the outside can remember, is if they been to that place before and were able to escape.

back to the talk about Steven, if Steven becomes Sans in one of the possible ways....either being resurrected or reincarnation.

the half that is Pink-Steven would still end up existing,

both halves being cleaved.

if Steven ended up having his age flux dangerously while he was in the middle of dying, then at his last moments he could of ended up becoming a baby.

and Gaster could of found the Baby Sans and ended up becoming his new dad.

or Steven could of been reborn as Gaster’s son, there can be different theories on how Steven becomes Sans.

but no matter the theories,

he would always end up becoming the big brother to Papyrus. 

if Steven did become a Baby again, and became Baby Sans.

his memories of his past with his Ex-Dad, Connie and the Crystal Gems.

might not resurface until a few years later, maybe not until after Papyrus was born.

I know not all fans will agree, but it is possible that Pink-Steven isn’t just a reincarnation of Pink/Rose, and might just be a fragment from her that she placed into a new pink diamond she created and had it bond to her human child, that she and Greg would either name Steven or Nora.

Pink-Steven yelling out that “She’s Gone” might have more meaning,

like he knew she didn’t “die” or just retreated into the gem she gave to Steven.

I believe the Pink Diamond that Steven has, is truly his and was possibly made by Rose and Pink-Steven was a creation of hers by taking a fragment of her consciousness light and placing the very small fragment into the newly created Pink Diamond.

if that were true, that would mean that Rose is still alive and hiding.

and she made her friends, Greg and her own Son believe she had truly gave up her physical form and she gave her life to bring Steven into the world.

only Pink-Steven, the other half of Steven would know this very big secret.

it’s okay that not all fans agree about this theory being possibly true.

and it’s alright that no one agrees about the dark world we see in Deltarune,

is really the void that makes others outside it, forget those who enter it.

but it would explain why no one was truly worried about Susie and Kris when they didn’t come back to class for hours.

and the only time they did show worry, was when they came back from the dark world and everyone remembered their existence.

it is possible that Susie, Kris and maybe some of the Darkners/Tulpa

have no idea that the Dark World makes those outside it forget a person’s existence and the only way to undo it is if they return.   

I’m gonna stick to my headcanon theory, that has to do with how before the Player/Red Soul ended up using Kris as a vessel.

the Knight had taken over Kris at some point, and would get them into trouble and even did some dangerous pranks, like with the ferris wheel.

the purpose we have in the game, is to free Kris from Knight and have them bond with others and form strong friendships.

but if we choose to go down the Geno Path, we end up becoming partners with Knight.

I had to watch clips from Chapter 2 to find out certain stuff that I missed when finally being able to play it myself.

I believe that the Ralsei we meet in Chapter 2, is not the same one we first meet in Chapter 1, and the real fluffy prince is in imprisoned and the Ralsei we meet in Chapter 2 is trying to fool us into believing they are the one we befriended before.

I know a lot of fans might of wondered if Ralsei is hiding a dark secret.

and it turning out that he is the bad guy, but that might only be half true.

the Ralsei in Chapter 2 might turn out to be secretly a bad guy who is working for the Knight.

but as for the Ralsei in Chapter 1, he could turn out to truly care about Kris and knows that the Player/Red Soul was placed in them, in order to save them from Knight and to take away their control over Kris.

Knight might only get back control during a Geno Route in the Dark World,

and even during the Nighttime when Kris returns home.

it is possible while the Knight has control of Kris, they allow them to eat the Pie.

Kris might possibly have three souls in them, one belonging to them, the other being the Knight who was making their life miserable, and lastly the Player.

the Player can go down the Geno Route, but in doing so would be adding the misery to Kris, and they wouldn’t just have one soul that wasn’t theirs that is making their life a nightmare, but two instead.

we know that Steven was very confused about the thoughts if he was his Mom or not, and it turns out he isn’t her, but he could still have a fragment of her

that ended up becoming Pink-Steven.

no one has to agree about this theory being true, but I believe that Pink-Steven isn’t just a reincarnation of Rose but is really a fragment from her that Rose created, along with a new diamond.

Steven’s relationship with his mother, is already estranged and it can be possible he doesn’t view her as much of a hero to look up to as he did when he was a kid, same goes for how bad things got for him and Greg.

I’m sure that while some who watched that episode on Steven Universe Future,

where Greg showed Steven the House he grew up in, think Greg made the right choice by leaving......well I’m not sure if others feel that way but I’m just guessing.

but I believe Greg was slightly in the wrong, even if his parents tried to do their best, they could of still explained why he wasn’t allowed to have certain things.

I did mention before about the theory that one of Greg’s parents

might of had a sensitive hearing and couldn’t handle loud music,

and Greg kept having the volume up and even though one or both his parents told him to stop it and to keep it down, he ignored them and kept the volume up.

and there could of been a good reason why they gave him meatloaf,

even if too much of it might be possibly bad.

Greg might of had a habit of misbehaving, and that is why his parents had to be even more strict with him.

we know that Pink Diamond, before she became Rose and when she faked her death and poof and reformed, the Rose Quartz disguise was no longer a disguise and that form became her real form the moment she reformed after Pink Diamond was “shattered” and we know before all that happen,

Pink would always misbehave and Blue would have to place her in the tower.

while Pink could of had some unfair moments where she was punished for the wrong reasons, other times the punishments were fair and something she needed.

but it would of been best to just ground her in her room,

and only use the tower if necessary, like to block out her destructive powers. 

I believe the tower was made to block out Pink’s destructive powers.

Rose was both a good and bad person, but she could be a bit insensitive

and didn’t know how much Blue, Yellow and White loved her.

or how much Spinel loved her,

or how Pink Pearl aka “Lily” (Fanon) or Volleyball (Canon) loved her

and defended her actions when she ended up hurting them.

even Pearl was hurt by her, and she didn’t want to believe that she would hurt Lily, but then at some point in that episode where they tried to fix Lily,

Pearl had open her eyes to the damage that Rose (when she was Pink Diamond) had done.

after what happen with Steven, and even seeing that his problems had first started in the first series, Rose had caused him some emotional pain.

it doesn’t help that his family, Greg and the Crystal Gems are partly responsible.

even if they love him, they kinda half neglected his human needs.

even if they ended up taking care of most of his human needs....

Greg is at the most fault for not taking Steven to a doctor for his human half,

and Doctor Mahaswaren was in the right to be upset at Greg.

 she mentions the unhealthy and healthy stress and the trauma done to Steven’s body, and how he always feels attacked.

I don’t think Sadie, Lars, Connie or others who knew Greg, knew anything about how Steven was being raised might be actually hurting him.

there is something called balance, Steven could still do Gem stuff

but he should make sure to give himself a break and do more human stuff.

some who have been in the same or slightly different feelings that Steven goes through in Steven Universe Future, end up relating to Steven and understand the bad feelings aren’t so easy to get rid of and don’t just go away as fast as we want them to.

if you get a another depression after getting better from the first one,

it might end up becoming worse and might go through some stages

and it will take way longer to get better.

you could try to act like everything is fine, and even if there are people and the stuff that interest you that still makes you feel a bit happy, the bad feeling is still there and it can hurt.

not like the hurt you feel when you get a cut or if you end up with a bruise on your arm and depending how hard your arm got hit, the inside of the arm will feel a bit sore and you will have to use ice and when the bruise starts to change color means it is getting better.

the type of hurt that has nothing to do with those two, has to do with your very soul and emotions I think.

like a build up of too much negative energy that is only hurting you on the inside.

I know there was more than one things that were getting to me that day,

and because of a fight, it was the breaking point.

I didn’t like it when the words I was trying to explain before ended up being misinterpreted and I had to give up on trying to explain.

I learned that it is a bad idea for someone who had a few months of depression, to end up with another depression on another year that might be close to the one that they had the first one and had got better too.

it could end up becoming way worse.

plus it can hurt when you feel like your family don’t listen to you,

and might make you feel they don’t love you as much, even if they do love you, they might make you feel like they don’t when they can’t understand about certain concerns and you might feel heart broken at thoughts that you try to tell them but they wont listen or they try to tell you that isn’t true.

I mean I still love my family, but it feels like they don’t listen to me half the time.

I think it is possible when our family don’t listen when we needed it,

it can end up hurting us emotionally and it might cause us to not trust them with certain things anymore.

I hope some of you agree about the theory about the Dark World really being the Void, and the whole Pink-Steven really being a fragment from Rose and the diamond that Steven has, is really a new diamond that Rose created so she could once again fake her death and go into hiding.

we know that Pink had the ability to create gems from dirt and made a very real looking pink diamond shards.

so it is logical to believe that she created a new pink diamond and place a fragment from herself, into it and made everyone believe she gave up her form when she had Steven.

if Sans and Pink-Steven became separate beings, but still being related...

and Sans still having traces of gem in soul.

Pink-Steven could end up meeting Sans again, and might decide to tell him the truth about their Mother, how she made both of them, and how the Diamond that everyone believed was Rose/Pink’s Gem was really a new pink diamond she created and made everyone believe she had died when giving up her form to bring Steven into the world.

we know that Rose had kept secrets before, this would just be another secret that fans would of had to figure out, I mean if it is true.

but it is still a theory, but it is a theory that I see as headcanon.

not everyone has to agree about it being true, not everyone has to agree on the same headcanon and that’s okay.

* I want to criticize Deltarune's combat a little more if you don't mind.

* I love the game, but that doesn't mean that I love each aspect of it equally. Combat, more precisely - pacifist solutions to combat, got the short end of the stick unfortunately.

* And obviously all of this is very subjective

* So far, in my opinion, it feels like a downgrade from Undertale.

* See, what bothers me is that all enemies are effectively the same, or at least feel the same in regards to how you SPARE them. Majority of enemies are spared by using a single ACT (sometimes more then once), and then SPARE (rarely Pacify) on the next turn, which is not engaging imo.

* And these are supposed to be social puzzles. Not "Hello! Bye!" kind of interactions.

* Undertale also had simple enemies like that, don't get me wrong. But in Undertale there were also wrong ACTs, that would do nothing, hinder your progress, or make your encounter harder if you used them, like "Talk" with Madjick (or was it "listen to"? I don't quite remember).

* Deltarune doesn't have this. In Deltarune it is ACT: 1) Solo action, a little progress 2) Team action, more progress 3) Make it tired, inferior option. And I don't quite remember anything else ever in the game.

* There was also no mercy progress bar to show you if you guessed it right in Undertale. You were encouraged to read the dialog that plays out before the enemy attack and narration and make your decisions based on that. My favorite example of this being the Mercenary Look in the Core, who would tell you what ACT to perform on it. This ACT was unique to each Look, or would even change mid fight if I remember correctly.

* Not to mention more complex enemies that required you to use certain ACTs in certain order, like most of Dog monsters in Undertale. Deltarune straight up doesn't have those.

* Instead Deltarune has minigame enemies, like Maus, which are, in my opinion, tons of fun and the best ones.

* I want at least more Swatchlings and less Tasque, if you catch my drift.

* And with Deltarune's introduction of several playable characters this feels like a loss of potential.

* You could do such interesting puzzle enemies with Deltarune's new, improved model for combat, compared to Undertale. Like, for example some enemies becoming less SPAREable if they see Susie do anything, who need to be calmed down by Ralsei, or can be distracted by Kris. Or the other way around. And you don't know who's who, maybe you'll even get some of both in the same encounter.

* And will have to either take a closer look at the design or lines of these enemies to figure them out faster that you would by trying every option out. And make these enemies a fanclub of your characters that don't like your "cosplay" or are at war with each other.

* Or a group of enemies that compete for attention from playable characters. Maybe a theatre themed mini-boss that wants your team to ACT out a certain, but rather vaguely described act.

* I should stop brainstorming.

* Now, important to point out, Pacifist Combat in Deltarune is still enjoyable, I just think it could be better.

* And there is obviously great things about this game that render these criticisms somewhat insignificant, that deserve a post of their own. Not a reason for me to not give this criticisms though.

* Or this is all a deliberate choice to express some themes and is a metaphor and I am a boo-hoo fool. Also a possibility. Always a possibility.

Poppy Fanfic: “Ask Her”

For context: This is a fanfic I wrote in order to join the Poppy Milk dev team and show off my writing skills. Since the callout at the time said we’d need to write a lot of sidequests, I wanted to ask the question of what a Poppy-centered side-quest would be like. I got the idea that it would be from an Asker’s perspective, and everything sort of came naturally after that. Even though I’m on the dev team right now, it’s not canon to Omega Timeline: Poppy’s Story and even has some inaccuracies that contradict canon. With that said, please feel free to read the story below the cut.

You noticed something very different inside your room when you woke up. The lights were off and the sun hadn’t yet risen, but there was a certain… aura, coming from your door. You were filled with a certain trepidation, but… you approached it. It was hard to see in the light, but it looked… grey. 

Swallowing the lump in your throat, you stepped through...

...and found about the last person you would’ve expected. The spitting image of Frisk - CORE!Frisk, that was, looking up at you, in the middle of a white void.

“Wh- You’re real?!” you asked, dumbfounded.

“Of course I’m real. Have you been taking all this multiverse stuff for granted? Everything is real somewhere,” Core answered, simply. 

“I… I don’t… and you, me…” you panted, starting to feel a small panic attack coming on.

“Focus,” Core snapped their fingers, grounding you back in reality. Okay, this was happening now.

“Let’s get down to business. Simply: you don’t like me. And I don’t like you. But we BOTH like Poppy. Poppy, my dear, sweet angel… has unfortunately recently come to the realization that Askers ALSO exist in the multiverse. And now she wants to do a ‘meet n’ greet’ with one of her fans. Trust me, I TRIED to talk her out of it, but she can be darn persuasive when she wants to be. And as you’re now realizing, that’s where you come in. 

“I wanna make you a deal. You play along with whatever Poppy wants until she gets bored of this. If you’re on your best behavior - and that means, don’t give her anything bad, don’t tell her anything you KNOW she shouldn’t know, don’t use any magic, and be a general good influence - if you play nice, in exchange, I will allow you to hang out with ANY resident of the Omega Timeline. 

“Want to spend a day full of wacky hijinks with a Papyrus, or even an Underswap Sans? Consider it done. Want to know how Deltarune Chapter 2 plays out ahead of time? I know a Susie with your name on it. Whatever you want, so long as you play by the rules, and don’t ask for anyone obviously ridiculous. So… do we have ourselves a deal?”

You contemplated that offer, and everything that was happening, trying to suppress your inner urge to geek out for just a few moments. The Omega Timeline, Poppy, and all the AU’s you could think of and more were real. And you just got an invitation to visit them.

“Yeah, of course!” you nodded excitedly, though your enthusiasm only seemed to make Core more anxious.

“Don’t make me regret this…” Core sighed, as the whiteness seemed to melt away into a cozy-looking house with wooden floors and lime walls, where you were standing directly outside of a white door. Core seemed to have disappeared.

Technically, there was nothing stopping you from exploring. So you did just that. You walked up to a shelf with some family photos. One was a photo of Poppy, Core, Dusted and Rust all together, in some meadow, looking happy. At least, you assumed Dusted and Rust were happy, they didn’t show up well on camera. There was another photo of Poppy alone, looking somewhat younger than she did on the blog, seated on a chair in a photo that looked far more staged. She held an actual poppy flower in her hand and smiled brightly.

You opened the cabinet doors, curious of what knick-knacks you might find in there. Some crayons, a few random glass cups, some art by 3-year-old Poppy that was so poorly done its meaning was hard to decipher, and a locked box. You reached for the box--

“Getting a bit sidetracked, aren’t we?”

You jolted up, and faced Core behind you. Even though they were child-sized, they crossed their arms with the poise and authority of a stern parent. You laughed anxiously. “Ahahaha… ahaha… ha……..”

“...Strike one.” Core said, and vanished. The meaning of that was all-too clear. Deciding not to dilly dally any longer, you went to the room you suspected to be Poppy’s, and knocked. 

“Just a sec!” Poppy said, and opened the door. She looked up at you, and gasped. “Wow, Granpa really did come through…!” She twirled excitedly. “You must be my adoring fan, aren’t you?” she asked.

You stared down at the girl in stunned silence.

“To be honest, I kinda figured you’d be some gray guy with sunglasses, but that’s kinda silly in hindsight. How you doin’?” She asked that last line in a mock accent as you continued to stare.

“Baby,” you said.

“What?”

“Nothing,” you quickly tried to change the subject. “Yeah, it’s… y’know, it’s great to be here…” You clasped your hands together, biting your lip. You were in an Undertale AU, faced with the AU granddaughter of another AU character. You still weren’t entirely over that. Was this fever dream? Fandom heaven, or fandom hell?

“I know! Once I heard you guys weren’t from the Omega Timeline, I realized I hadn’t met even ONE of my fans… even if you guys are super annoying some of the time.” 

“Uhhh, yeah…” you wondered if you should apologize on behalf of the askers who put Poppy in the hospital that one time. Then again, it seemed kind of awkward, and it might have been best not to bring that up while Core was watching, which was always. Looking down at the cutesy girl, it was almost tempting to pull her into a hug, but you managed to keep your composure. 

“I wanted to do something a little more special than just some sorta interview, though, because you ask me questions all the time anyways,” Poppy said. “Granpa said you’ve never been to the Omega Timeline before, so I wanna give you the big tour!” Poppy went to the door. “I’m gonna be outside when you’re ready!” She left the room.

Seeing the empty room in front of you, you were tempted to snoop again, but you’d learned your lesson after last time. You headed straight out after Poppy.

You couldn’t help but gasp in awe of the serenity of the great outdoors as you were beckoned to it. You’d been outside before, obviously, but everything just looked so… nice. The blue sky, the grassy grounds, the ornate buildings… you’ve seen this place in pixel art and a couple drawings before, but seeing it with your own eyes was another story. And the next thing for you to nearly faint at was seeing the Undertale characters running around, Sanses, Undynes, Frisks, even goat moms. 

Poppy smiled. “...It’s nice, isn’t it? I KNEW taking you on a tour was a good idea.” She smirked. “Now remember, just because this is a meet-up doesn’t mean it’s free, and there WILL be a fee at the end of our ride.”

“...Uh… I left my wallet at home,” you said, patting your pockets, “And I don’t have any, uh... ‘G,’ I think. Unless the G stands for ‘Gratitude,’ amiright?” you did finger guns.

“G stands for Gold,” Poppy corrected you bluntly, unamused. She returned to her chipper attitude just as quickly, though. “Now, let me show you around!” She led you down the street. 

Walking with her, seeing so many versions of your favorite characters in the flesh, walking around… well, the temptation to talk to SOME of them was irresistible, Core be damned. You did resolve not to go too far off-track, but you shared some words with the folks you passed by, Poppy thankfully stopping each time you did. You met two Frisks - one boy, one ambiguous - an Underswap Undyne, a human version of Toriel, and surprisingly, a version of Princess Peach.

You and Poppy approached an elegant fountain, stood upon proudly by a statue of a mustachio’d CORE!Frisk. “This is the Timeline Plaza! It’s sort of the local park, where people meet up to do... stuff. Just hang out. Make a picnic. Play ball. All that good park-y stuff, y’know? And there’s stores in all directions, so it’s pretty good.” She proudly showed off her home to you, with a smile.

You talked to more on the way to the next place. An Inverted Fate Papyrus. A weird Ralsei who said his name was “Noyno.” An Asgore wearing a hoodie, who you assumed was swapped with Sans. (Poppy did scold you a little bit for this, telling you that just because someone has a hoodie you shouldn’t assume they’re swapped. You apologized.)

“This is Grillby’s! One of them, anyways. The nearest one to my house. It’s pretty good if you want an OK burger. Sanses love the place, though. It’s… kind of unhealthy. And a little gross.” Poppy said. “Especially when they just drink… raw… ketchup.”

“Can’t handle a little ketchup?” you smiled mischievously. “We drink it by the gallon back in my universe,” you lied.

“...I really hope you’re joking,” Poppy said, alarmed.

“Am I?” you smiled brighter.

“...W-well, we’re not going in there, so you can FORGET about drinking that much ketchup!” Poppy said, afraid of the sheer power of your ketchup-drinking.

You and Poppy moved onto the next spot. You met an Underswap Alphys who seemed to be trapped in a red-and-gold palette. You met a robot dressed as a circus ringmaster, who claimed to be a Chara. You met a Dummy dressed in a Frisk shirt. (You didn’t assume it was swapped with Frisk this time, which turned out to be a mistake, because it was.) Poppy stared at you awkwardly now, wondering why you were talking to all these random strangers. Finally, you and Poppy reached your next destination.

“The theater! Where we show off all the greatest hits! Including MY movie, which, not to brag, but it’s--”

Except, you’d been distracted by a hyperdeath Asriel, and were ignoring Poppy for the moment.

“...” Poppy spoke up. “That’s what I don’t get about you.”

“Huh?” that seemed to wake you up, and you looked at her. 

“Everytime it’s always, ‘have you met Underswap Sans,’ or ‘have you met JangoTale Frisk,’ or some other weird thing. You always ask that. But… they’re just people. Why do you always assume I know some random Sans or Frisk or someone?”

“I…” you were a bit taken aback. “...I don’t… we don’t assume you know them, they’re just… they’re just important.” 

“Important?” She asked. “...I-I mean, yeah, EVERYONE’s important, but, I don’t really get what you mean…”

“They’re all--” You paused, trying to collect your thoughts, think of everything you knew from the blog, and tried to actually talk to her. “...They’re like friends to me. Kinda.”

“...You guys are friends with them? I thought you were stuck in your world…” she frowned.

“No, it’s like-- I’m not ‘friends’ with Underswap Frisk, or-- or Storyshift Frisk, or Shifty or whatever, I’m just friends with… Frisk.”

...Poppy stared at you like you just said the ground was turning to jelly, or something equally bafflingly inane. “...I… think you’re confused. Look, sometimes newcomers struggle with this. Your Frisk isn’t the only Frisk--”

“I know! It’s… You don’t get it. This world, these worlds are so special and creative, and they mean a lot to me. I know we can be really edgy, and I know we ask weird questions about Dusted and Rust, but that’s all because… because...” you paused.

Poppy looked, seeming upset about hearing her siblings mentioned in the context of ‘edgy’ questions, not seeing what you were seeing. Core, standing behind her, holding up a hand signal.

The number two.

You were getting carried away. You overstepped.

“...Um… I’m sorry.” You pulled her into a hug as Core vanished. “There’s really no reason for us to ask those questions. We can just be dumb sometimes.”

“...” She hugged back. “Yeah, it’s okay. I knew you guys were super weird and dumb before I convinced Granpa to let you in here, so I guess I should’ve seen this coming,” Poppy smiled, regaining her confidence as you did your best to not be offended at being called weird and dumb.

“Okay! I think I have just one last stop in mind to cap this tour off on a high note! Literally, hehehe…” She giggled mischievously. This time, you didn’t stop to talk to others, following her directly as you approached a peak overlooking the town. For yet another time, and probably the last, you couldn’t help but ogle at the town’s beauty. “Pretty good, right?” She sat down.

“Ha… with all the climbing, I was worried we’d fall down a mountain,” you joked. Poppy seemed to roll her eyes, as you sat beside her. “...I guess I get how you can call this place home. I mean, once I stop nerding out, anyways. You don’t see stuff like this in my… reality.”

“Just gallons and gallons of ketchup, huh?” she commented. You couldn’t help but laugh. 

“Yeah.”

And you two just stared into the distance for a while. ...She wasn’t just a character. She was a human being.

...Or, technically just a ‘being,’ scratch the human part. Still, you felt a bit desensitized to all this. And so did she. You related in that way.

“I can’t say you exactly passed with flying colors, but you fulfilled your end of the agreement well enough.”

Without any warning, you were back in a white void with CORE!Frisk, just like before. You almost forgot about the deal you made, what with all the time you spent with Poppy. You stood.

“Uh… yeah. So, my reward…” you drifted off, remembering the offer Core gave you. The chance to meet just about any AU character of your imagining… or at least, any that would be peaceful enough to be in the Omega Timeline. Which still left a WIDE variety of options…

Who did you want to see? What mattered most to you?

...

Thinking deeply… you told Core their name.

“...Oh. Really? Well, I guess it makes sense for you that you’d want to see them,” Core remarked. “I can’t guarantee they’ll give you what you’re looking for, but a deal’s a deal. Let’s head off.”

You and Core went somewhere else.

Some thoughts on Deltarune Chapter 2

I’m going to try to avoid being effusively praising of this game…demo…chapter. I’m sure there’s plenty of people doing that already, and I am more than cognizant of the platform I am presenting this post on. That’s going to be tough, yeah, but I’ll make it work.

I’m also going to try to avoid spoiling the thing too hard, even though there are spoilers everywhere and certain supposed-to-be obscure things are widespread at this point. But, someone could still end up reading this before they play it, so I’m going to hold my tongue a fair bit as a result.

With that in mind: new chapter is obviously out, so how does it stack up?

…I think it might be better than the first one. In my opinion.

Undertale 22 over here is a continuation of the first chapter, released about 3 years ago, taking place literally the next day in-universe. Chapter 1 coming out was a Huge Deal, not in the least a result of how it was announced. Despite the distance since the release, the Undertale fandom was still simmering along, and with an announcement that appears tied to one of that game’s biggest mysteries, it was no wonder that it was going to make some waves.

Chapter 2’s release was a surprise for different reasons. I believe at the time of the first demo, Toby stated that the remaining chapters would release as one, but that it would take a long time on account of the game being so much more complex than Undertale and not playing as much to his strengths. Of course, a lot happens in 3 years, especially with the last couple being as they have been, so Chapter 2 got its own release about a week ago.

I suppose I should stop beating around the bush and explain why I think Ch.2 is better than Ch.1, huh? I think there’s three main factors that swayed me.

Prologues and introductions always have to do one thing, and that is to familiarise the audience with the setting and characters. Despite sharing many side characters with its pseudo-prequel, Deltarune Chapter 1’s main cast are all completely fresh, and those side characters are in an unfamiliar form, and so much of the game is spent establishing cast dynamics. We have to learn who Susie, Kris, and Lancer are, and how the dynamics between them will be working for the stories to come.

However, there is the slight difference that Deltarune Chapter 1 is kind of a complete story. It’s like the pilot to a tv series- you have to establish characters, yeah, but you still have to get the plot spinning, and those characters still need to have small arcs over the course of the story. Susie and Lancer are kind of the only ones to go through actual arcs across the first chapter, given Ralsei’s currently kind of static character and Kris being a blank slate entirely.

By contrast, Chapter 2 has these dynamics in play from the get-go, and we get to more deeply explore them as a result, making the character work overall stronger. And while there are new characters at play, two of the three (arguably four) new players are already established in Chapter 1, and so we don’t need to spend as much time getting to know them. Character interactions are at the core of many styles of storytelling, and with the quirky characters we have to work with, getting more time seeing them do that is great!

The second of why I like Chapter Two better is just the gameplay. A fair few little tweaks have been made to make the whole thing cleaner- enemies now have a parallel meter to their HP bar to show how close to sparable they are, so pacifistic players have a better idea of their progress in longer fights. For those players, actually having Susie and Ralsei get ACT options is great, seeing as it makes them substantially more useful (especially Susie). When I replayed Chapter 1 in preparation for playing Chapter 2, I found myself just Guarding with them over and over while Kris did most of the work.

And the creativity with the fights is ramped up a whole bunch. This is another Not Being The First Part thing, but now that the player is used to how fights in this game are going to go, the complexity gets to increase to match, and the characterisation of the bosses and even generic enemies can better be expressed in the gameplay. I remember being genuinely shocked at how much was going on with the Ambyu-Lance enemy’s highway bullet pattern, especially when combined with other enemies in the fray.

I very much enjoyed the secret boss. Oh come on, that’s not a spoiler, everyone knows about Jevil at this point, and you get hinted at it super early on! And it’s way easier to find than Jevil was!

Anyway. My final point is just that I do like the characters in Chapter 2 better- particularly the antagonists. As fun as Lancer is, the sort of annoying whacky child characters are never something I’m particularly fond is. Even though he’s written really well, it took a lot to sell me on him. As well, as sicknasty as the King’s boss fight was, as well as the scenes surrounding it being an excellent summation of the point of the game as a whole, he’s not an especially interesting character.

And while I suppose Queen isn’t particularly deep either, everything about her is so unbelievably fun. I was pretty much sold on her immediately, with that regal “ohohoho” laugh followed by just absolutely shitposting for the entire length of the game. Her presence makes so much of this game an utter blast. Her presence reminds me a lot of the characters in Undertale who were mostly just there for one area, Alphys in Hotland and the skeletons in Snowdin, constantly popping in to keep things moving, giving each area its own little arc, and generally be fun and amusing along the way. And since each chapter of Deltarune is a lot longer than one arc of Undertale, it’s for the best that Queen manages to make this much of a good impression about the whole thing.

As I’ve stated, I think most of the reasons why Deltarune Chapter 2 are a simple result of being a Chapter 2 rather than a Chapter 1, rather than being any fault of Chapter 1’s (and the last point is basically personal preference). Both are obviously still excellent, and I’m happy to wait patiently for the series to continue if it keeps up this level of quality. At the end of the day, like, this game is currently free. And it provides a better and longer experience than a lot of actually paid games I’ve played. Toby Fox has managed to be a big shot after literally releasing one and two sevenths of a game, and it doesn’t seem like he’s going to be slowing down anytime soon. Here’s hoping that the assistance he’s apparently getting for future chapters works out such that it doesn’t end up sacrificing quality, but I don’t see this happening quite yet. I suppose only time will tell, but I’m optimistic. Filled with determination, as some would say.

On the Subject of Underverse S2

You read that correctly: this is a post about one of the greatest shows ever created, the Undertale animated series Underverse, written/animated by @jakei95​. I have a lot of theories that I’ve been pulling together ever since I watched both Underverse and Xtale (the Underverse prequel series). Maybe one or two have no basis in anything, but for some reason they popped into my head and I’ll stick by them until they’re proven incorrect. I will discuss the possibility of a Geno/Ink fight, Fresh!Ink, XI (you’ll definitely want to read their section!), and the fates of many different characters. This is quite the long post, so buckle up for a long ride.

Let’s begin!

GENO/INK FIGHT:

I’m putting this theory first because it is the least important. At some point in time, I somehow got it into my head that there is supposedly going to be a fight between Geno and Ink. I have no idea where I heard about this, and when I searched for any specific videos or posts about the subject, I found nothing. But I personally think a fight scene between Geno and Ink would be pretty cool, so I’m adding this in here.

FRESK!INK’S EXISTANCE:

This is a more relevant theory. Ever since Jakei announced that Fresh!Ink would be a part of Underverse, I have wondered how he would be incorporated. I don’t know if she means for him to be in the future “Beach Episode” or something more serious. (Of course, I know almost nothing about this supposed “Beach Episode”, which is apparently when Epic!Sans will be showing up, so I really wouldn’t know.) But there is an important thing to remember: Ink and Fresh made a deal in the first season.

Ever since I saw this Underverse - Xtra Scene 2, I have wondered what this “prize” could possibly be. What was Ink’s side of the deal? What did he promise Fresh? Hmm... maybe a new body to take over?

Ink’s body doesn’t have a SOUL- that’s basic “Undertale AU Knowledge 101″. What does this have to do in regards to Fresh? To my best knowledge, the actual parasitic creature True!Fresh feeds off the souls of other creatures to survive. In fact, his soul-feeding would kill his victims if he stayed long enough in one body, but he likes to play it safe and leave his victims alive in case he needs to use their body again. But he wouldn’t need to do this with Ink. Because of Ink’s SOULless nature, Fresh could theoretically feed off his body forever. Some might object that since Ink doesn’t have a SOUL, Fresh wouldn’t be able to feed off him. But then how does Fresh!Ink exist?

So, what was their deal? Fresh watches over the Xtale AU while Ink is gone, and after Cross and X!Chara are taken care of, Ink comes back and lets Fresh take over his body for a little while. There may be something else I’m missing, but the pieces seem to make sense.

XI’S PURPOSE:

For those of you who don’t know who XI is, I suggest you watch this video about Jakei’s Overwrite merch. This is when the character of XI was introduced to us, back on good ol’ April 1st, 2019. Haha, yes, the joke character of XI- funny April Fool’s Day video, a good laugh for everyone. Jakei has made a few comics about XI since then, but overall, XI hasn’t been involved in Xtale or Underverse so far. That has never sat right with me, and I’ve always thought there would be something more to him. I was proven absolutely correct when Xtale - The Movie came out. But before we discuss the little extra scene tagged onto the end of that video, I would like to point out some very interesting facts about XI.

On October 6th, 2019, Jakei posted a traditional speedart. Obviously, the art is gorgeous like always and every time I watch it I wonder if I will ever get to the level of skill she is at. But besides that, there is a very important aspect about this video. In the speedart, Jakei drew two pictures: one of X!Chara and X!Frisk fighting, and one of XI. In XI’s picture, they are depicted in full armor with a magical purple sword & shield.

Hmmm... I wonder who this could possible resemble?

Every time XI is shown, whether it be in comics or artwork, their bangs hang over their eyes. Their armor looks exactly like Kris’s from Deltarune. Heck, they both use a sword and a shield! What does this mean? XI is X!Kris. There is no way to deny this. This is why they are X!Chara’s and X!Frisk’s little sibling. I would also like to point out XI’s silver oval locket. I find it interesting how he has a different piece of jewelry from everyone else- all other important characters in Xtale have a matching golden heart locket. Does XI also have people he has given copies of this necklace to? Perhaps X!Susie and X!Ralsei, if they exist? But XI being X!Kris is only the beginning of this theory. Remember how I mentioned Xtale - The Movie earlier? Take a look at this picture.

This is a five-second frame pegged at the very end of the video, after an entry written in wingdings by Mister XGaster himself. The message is as follows:

Entry Number Eleven: As clear as a reflection in a mirror, I have found the most perfect projection of forbidden visions. Get ready. Your time is coming.

Okay, just whoa. Not only is the entry #11, but the person standing there is XI. Oh, and let’s take a closer look at what they’re holding in their hand.

I knew that silver locket was going to be important. There is no way that XI is not going to play a major part in either Underverse S2 or hmm... maybe a spin-off about the Xtale versions of Deltarune characters? To my knowledge, Jakei has not said anything about her plans after she finishes Underverse. She has her Metadora project, and I am aware that her husband @nyxtheshield​ is planning out his own Undertale series- someone will need to animate that, and I’m sure she would be able and willing to do the job. She has stated that there will be no seasons of Underverse after S2, and the finale will be 1.0. But that doesn’t mean she won’t make a new series. If she does, will it be about all the Deltarune characters? Will the other Xtale characters show up at certain points in it? Will XGaster play a large part in it? There is no way to know, as the idea of a new show is simply drawn from that there may not be enough time in S2 to fully expand what XI is.

In any case, XGaster states in the entry that “your time is coming”. This could either reference a new show or XI’s appearance in Underverse. I find it extremely interesting how XGaster words his message. “The most perfect projection of forbidden visions.” What does that mean exactly? XGaster has seen something in one of his many visions, obviously. The most perfect image of prohibited sights. XI is a person that stands for something that should not be allowed to exist. That makes sense- XGaster, a man, somehow got pregnant and birthed them, as shown in the Overwrite merch video. The “forbidden visions” might imply that he has seen something quite “cursed”, as us modern Internet-users would say. But then he tells this projection to get ready, because their time is coming. XGaster is telling XI to prepare themself. This just proves that XI and XGaster are tied together very closely, and that if XI does get their own series with X!Ralsei and X!Susie, XGaster will be involved.

Whew! That’s a lot of information to take in all at once. This was the big “theory” I wanted to discuss, so now we will move on to the different fates I believe may befall some of our beloved characters.

INK, FOR GOOD OR FOR WORSE?:

Ah, Ink. One of the true protagonists of Underverse. Remember: a protagonist is not necessarily a hero, just one of the leading characters. It has been seen that his story arc is the most important throughout the entire story. He is the one that inspired XGaster. He is the one that made XGaster’s plan succeed. And he very well might be the one to make it fail.

Wait, you’re asking me. I thought he was on XGaster’s side? What do you mean he will make it fail?

I didn’t want to address whether Ink was going to stick with XGaster or flip until a certain song was posted by Nyx two days ago on December 5th, “Soulless Heart”. If you haven’t listened to it yet, go ahead and click that link because the song is beautiful and absolutely necessary to continue on with this theory! The song is the Underverse 0.5 Ending Theme, and guess who it’s about? You guessed it, our good old buddy chum pal Ink. I’ve been listening to it on repeat since it came out, and it really is incredible. (Nyx, if you’re somehow reading this, I would like to personally congratulate you, because not only is the music amazing but mwah! Your voice is a joy, and I would not have any other singer do the vocals.) But the most important thing about the song is the lyrics. Here’s the first verse.

How long have I been longing

to be free and not broken

in this ocean of hollowness?

I don’t want to be forgotten.

Instantly, the lyrics hit you hard. This is about Ink, though, so you can’t expect anything less. Essentially, the song is about the emptiness that Ink feels without a SOUL. This goes along with one of his main aspects in Underverse. The only reason why he worked with XGaster to make sure XGaster’s game worked was so he could feel more emotions. As a chaotic neutral character, Ink literally only cares about himself and his personal goals. But what is interesting about this song is that he addresses the pain he has caused.

Sacrificial lambs

laid upon my path

now are broken worlds

killed by senseless wrath.

Ink knows that he has hurt people. I mean, in the present timeline when 0.5 is to be set, Ink’s actions just caused Error to literally “pull the plug” and destroy all the AUs. (Although, how many AUs were actually destroyed is impossible to determine, because there are still multiple Sanses that will be incorporated into S2 that were residing in their AUs at the time of their supposed destruction.) Ink knows that this is his fault. And now that XGaster has won, Ink will be receiving all those emotions he wanted! In the S2 teaser, which was released on the original Underverse 0.5 release date (the episode was unfortunately delayed due to issues with Nyx’s distributor, RouteNote), shows something very important.

Look at those vials in his hand. Those aren’t just colored vials. Well, they are, but their colors are especially important. Look at their specific colors: orange, yellow, and amber. Previously, Ink’s vials have been seen as very straightforward: roy g biv, that sort of thing.

You have one or maybe two variations, although in this picture there seems to be about four different aqua vials. But there certainly isn’t an amber vial. This goes to show that XGaster followed through on his promise, and Ink has a lot more variations in his color-coded emotion vials. The obvious conclusion from this is that he can feel a lot more things than he thought was possible- including guilt. With his newfound feelings, he could realize that what he did wasn’t just wrong, it was horrible. He might start to blame himself for getting all the AUs destroyed, which in turn might result in a betrayal of XGaster. With his emotions, he would become a real good person. But ultimately, without XGaster’s Overwrite abilities, Ink’s new emotions will fade and he will return to be the same old Ink as before. He will no longer understand why he sacrificed his emotions, and the cycle will start anew. Ink will never be truly happy, because being happy will always mean the suffering of others.

Or, Ink will stick with XGaster. It would be the same fate, after all; if the heroes defeat XGaster, Ink will still lose those emotions. This, though, might leave him feeling bitter and even more willing to do anything to get what he wants, which could potentially lead to him becoming a real villain. Perhaps XGaster isn’t the final boss of Underverse. Maybe the one to start everything will be the one to finish everything.

XGASTER AND UT!GASTER:

This wouldn’t be a real theory post without discussing our favorite fanfiction writer, would it? And yes, XGaster is literally a fanfiction writer. He has symptoms of OCD concerning the world-building of his universe and he just loves to add as much angst as humanly (or monsterly) possible. It just so happens that he lives in his own created universe, so his creations have the pleasurable chance at getting revenge.

Now, there are obviously two ways that Underverse can go: XGaster succeeds, or XGaster fails. This doesn’t necessarily mean that this will be the ending of S2. As I mentioned above, perhaps XGaster will be defeated at the end of 0.9 and 1.0 will be about everyone trying to stop Ink from taking the Overwrite SOUL for his own, I don’t know. In any case, I don’t really have anything to discuss about XGaster specifically, but I am pretty sure I know what his last scene will be if he happens to lose.

It is shown in the Underverse S2 Prologue - Owners that XGaster and UT!Gaster spent a lot of time together in the Void between the events of Xtale and Underverse. Not only do they hold an entire conversation together in Owners, but in Underverse 0.1 when Sans is hit in the head with a ball, he has a vision of the two of them standing together.

In XGaster’s and UT!Gaster’s conversation in Owners, UT!Gaster tells XGaster that he will fail in his quest for perfection. XGaster brushes him off because he’s an egotistical prick, yadda yadda. But this conversation is important because I believe it will parallel the ending of XGaster’s quest. In the end, UT!Gaster will approach his old Void-buddy and tell him to just give up on his pointless venture. XGaster will turn to dust after saying something like, “I will never give up”, and then we have Ink going on a rampage. That’s pretty much all I have to say on them, but I thought it would be worth adding.

DREAM AND NIGHTMARE:

Lastly, we have the brothers. As with XGaster and UT!Gaster, I don’t have much to add with them. But I do believe they will both play a major role in S2. They will be the overseers of the battle to come. Out of all the characters in the Undertale fandom, they are the most omnipotent. They are the protectors of the Tree of Feelings, which is one of three trees to give the Multiverse life. In Underverse 0.4, when X!Chara accused Nightmare of “watching us all this time as if we were part of a show”, Nightmare responded by saying:

Of course, Nightmare mostly means himself, Error, and Ink. Dream is much more active in helping people be happy, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t on the same god-tier level as his brother. Dream could sit back and watch the world tick, but he chooses not to because that goes against his morals.

In other words, Dream and Nightmare will probably affect the outcome of Underverse more than any other characters. They’re both pissed about what Error did: all those people that Dream cared about were murdered, and Nightmare can no longer generate negative feelings from innocents. They both have invested interest in this Multiverse war now, and their powers will certainly come to the forefront.

I believe that at the end of the story, the Multiverse will essentially go back to the exact way it was before Xtale was invented. XGaster will be dead, the Xtale characters will be put back in their AU, the other AUs will be restored, and at the end of it all, Dream and Nightmare will be once again pitted against one another. We may even see an alliance between them during Underverse S2 to stop XGaster, but afterwards, they will reestablish their rivalry. Unless the Omega Timeline comes into play, which it very well might, I don’t see the two brothers reconciling.

CONCLUSION:

(Im gonna try to follow the info above so have Aquarius Kris struggling to open up and Ralsei being their to open up his feelings. I’ll also try to go with they care a lot about this world theme.)

Day 1:

Ah. The wonderous Darkworld. A place for second chances in the chaotic place that is his life. Where he could mend their old ways and earn a chance to go to the wonderous escape that is the dark world...Now only if it was more accepted by others around here. He didn't have the best reputation or start to be honest. Being embarrassed as being labeled the quiet kid, their one and only patient mother being divrced, and not to mention having the very powerful and feared bully as a best friend.

Gosh he really was a doom to be a weirdo wasn't he?

Even their own parents didn't know of this. What kind of hope could they possibly have if her own family didn't even believe in something that shouldn’t exist? Which is why they found Themselves curled up on her bed, under the blankets, crying his eyes and heart out. They didn't want to be disturbed right now. He just wanted to be alone, and have his five minutes in peace. He almost didnt hear the knock at his door but he could never mistake the sweet voice.

"Oh, Kris. You have a visitor," A voice sang from the other side of the door.

Silence came from the room. Before the lump under the pillow shifted and curled in onto herself.

"G-Go away. I-I don't want to be bothered right now.,

"...Alright, Dear. But you should know- Im respecting your privacy by knocking, but showing my authority as your mother by coming in anyways." The sound of the door suddenly opening and stare at the new arrival standing in the doorway and smiling down at him Seeing his frown he tilted his head. "Why the long face? That's not the Kris I know."

He sniffed and reached a hand up to wipe her face. "S-Sorry, Mom. Im not feeling too good." He flinched and looked up when she suddenly felt her wrap an arm around his shoulders.

"That's no way to behave! Now buck up and wear that beautiful smile of yours." he was suddenly yanked from the bed by his hand and thank goodness she still held onto him because his legs felt like jello and he would fall over any moment. "You should be fully dressed when meeting your guest now!"

he didn't argue with the taller monster, and aloud himself to be walked out the door and into the hallway. It gave him the excuse to wipe away his tears and try to get his feelings in check. They continued to walk down the hall and to the flight of stairs that went down to the first floor or more specifically the main lobby, Toriel hummed a strange tune while she walked with the smaller child.

"And here we are!" he was placed down given a sudden shove forwards and stumbled a few feet. "How about this, Kris. Your friend said he came all the way from another country to see you!"

Friend? Another country?

He tripped on the last step and was just about to face plant the floor when something stopped him, leaving him inches away from the floor. But luckily something had snagged the back of his shirt and he was slowly lifted up and back standing on his feet. Staring at her was toriel who was smiling as usually, but another similar looking monster was right next to him. Smiling and staring at her with pink eyes.

Asriel?...No. His brother was still in college.

"You should really watch where you're going, Kris." It giggled. "Or else you would've ended up like a pancake."

She stared at the smaler goat monster more....before a giant grin broke out on hia face. without a moment's hesitation Ralsei opened his arms for a hug but stopped when Kris Flinched back a bit, instead smiling and standing there patiently waiting for Kris to make a move he was comfortable with. Kris slowly stepped forward and him in a hug against hia sad sorry self. Ralsei in turned gave a couple laughs before looking around at the hotel surrounding him, before landing back on Toriel.

"Impressive home. You really know how to bring in the light. Not bad."

She giggled a bit more before Kris snuggled into his white fur. he may not have the presence of her parents or susie right now, but at least Ralsei showed his love for him.

Day 2:

*Sorta au if Kid Kris met Kid Ralsei*

The words she told him still rang in his head. "Kris!!What is wrong with you!? That was really mean!!” The slap had also stung, but his feelings had been the most damaged. Guess he couldn’t blame Noelle for slapping him on instinct when he scared her. It was a bad idea in hind sight. he was only trying to make an effort to make friends like his Mother suggested.He made a side step and pushed open the door to one of the rooms that no one usually entered. Almost immediately he collapsed onto one of the walls and broke down. It’s not fair! Why was making friends so hard?! This wasn’t fair! Tears streamed down his furred face and a few choked sobs escaped his throat. He almost didn't notice the startled yelp. He whirled around and came face first with the strange mammal. Ralsei shook. "What are you doing here? This is the science club’s room.” he stopped when she saw the tears running down his cheeks.".......Hey.....Are you ok?"

Kris  only shook his head and choked out a squeak.

She watched as he sat on the floor and proceeded to cry more. She arched a brow at this.Due to his reputation...he had a pretty good idea what happened “.Was it the incident with Noelle?" He made a whimper noise to confirm his suspicions. "........" he walked over to him and slowly sat next to him. "......Sorry to hear that. She was pretty spooked.”

"........."

"I can be.........loud at times. Hehe....uh."Still no reaction."...Why did you come here anyway?"

".......To be alone." "I see.......I come here to be alone sometimes, too."

".......Why are you here?"

he shrugged. "I don't have many friends outside the club, so I come here mostly to think about stuff. Berdly shouldn't have to baby me all the time."

"Berdly?" He peeked over at her.

"Yeah. he's like my only friend. he has problems of his own."

".......Why don't you have a lot of friends? You seem nice?"He finally sat up fully and looked at her.

he shrugged again. "I guess it's because of the way I am. I guess everyone finds me being too talkative and girly."

".......A-A lot of people find me weird, too."

"Really? how so?"

"I'm.like the only human here and my parents are divorced."

"Wow. And I thought I had it bad."

"Heh. Yeah. I don't know what I'd do without Asriel." "Same for me and Berdly. Without our friends......what would we do?"

"Yeah." A small silence followed. “Kris?”

"Yes?" "For what it's worth....I don't find you weird. You're actually a nice guy. Just have a hard time between your family and feelings. "......." he smiled. "Thanks. You're not bad for a goat yourself." "Thanks." Just then the door opened and Berdly sqauwked at the sight of him.

Day 3:

*Kris struggling with his piano music*

Everything was pretty silent in the hospital where patients resided. Except for the front. A few off key notes sounded out. A few patients have already complained about the noise, but he kept playing. Sweat dripped from his forehead as his hands strummed over the instrument under his arms. His fingers were numb and sore, but still he kept at it. He just couldn't let them down.

"Oh. Why did I have to say I knew how to play," he mumbled to himself," Me and my big mouth." He strummed a couple other notes, but they all came out the same. Terrible.He groaned before putting his face in his hands."I'm doomed." He was soon startled by someone Clearing their throat. "Yes?," he said not looking up.

He heard someone walk up to him. "....Kris, are you ok?"

Immediately, his head snapped up and towards the figure. "Ralsei?!" Sure enough...standing there was the goat monster. he was staring at him confused."......Uh....W-What are you doing here?"

"A lot of people were complaining about some noise, so I  came to investigate." he looked between him and the piano. "......Let me guess. Piano solo?"

He hunkered down a bit. "I'm.....uh.....warming up."

He walked over and sat next to him. "I thought you said you played guitar." "Well....I never said I was good at it."

he giggled. "You know...you don't have to do this."

”I can’t. I promised I’d play for them but...” He looked at his hands, “I’ve been on such a funk recently I can’t do anything anymore. And I don't want to let everyone down. "Oh!.Uh, well. Sometimes when Im frustrated with my magic, I go and do something to distract myself. Maybe what you need is a break from everything for a while....Do you maybe wanna do something together?"

”........”he shrugged. "Sure. Why not?" 

"Great! Uh.....What do ya wanna do?"

he shrugged again before standing up. "Anything but music."

He chuckled before standing up too. "Hehe...Yeah." Both chuckled and smiled before walking out of the room. Leaving the piano behind.

Day 4:

Valentine's Day. The one day of the year when others announced their love for another. It was so romantic. he despised it. Love was never a concept he understood or had much of. It just never worked out for him. If he wasn't being used by his current partner, they were chased away by his weird personality. It came to the point where he just gave up on love completely. It was fine though. he didn't need to be attached to anyone. he usually didn't come out of his home  during this time. Sure a few students gave im some valentine's at his class’s Valentine party, but that was far from actual love. he would never tell even his closest friend....but sometimes....he still yearned for it. Although he knew it was a hopeless cause. After all, who would fall for a human like him. Right now he was relaxing in front of his TV, watching a few cartoons. he almost didn't hear the knocking at her door.

"Hmm?" he turned her head towards the door.he waited for a bit......but no other noise was heard. Shrugging, he faced the TV again. Just when he was about to change the channel...

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Startled by the sudden noise, he stood up. The remote tossed to the side with a thump. Someone was definitely knocking at her door. 

"Now who in the world could that be?" he watched his mother slowly make her way towards the door from the kitchen.

Who could it be indeed? It was sunset. Most were out slobbering over each other, or making goo goo eyes at some make up wearing snobby prissy model. Maybe a card from one of his friends? But the mail usually doesn't come this late. And everyone else was already at the school’s Valentine’s Day Dance. She reached the door and grabbed the handle before pausing.

"If you’re here Asgore,  Im not interested."

"I’ m not Asgore, Ms.Toriel," A voice muffled through the door," I came to give Kris something."

"...Is this who I think it is?"

“Yes, Ma’am.”

She smiled and opened the door. “Hello, Ralsei."

The slightly smaller green dragon smiled at her.”Hello, Ms. Toriel. May I come in?” Toriel oblidge and the small goat monster came in. “Thank you.” He smiled seeing Kris and nervously walking up to him. “ Hi Kris, I I wanted to give you something."

he cocked an eyebrow." ......Did I forget somethin' at school?"

"No. Unless you really did for get something. But I wouldn't know since I wasn't there when you did forget whatever you forgot. That is if you did forget something. In which case-"

"Ralsei. You were sayin'?"

"Oh, yeah! Here!" He thrust something forward. "Happy Valentine's Day, Kris!" he had to quickly lean back from how close the thing was to prevent his face from being hit. he couldn't really blame him though. He was blinded by happiness. Blinking, Kris stared at the thing in his hands before reaching up and taking it from him. It was a heart shaped paper card with sloppily applied glitter and..macaroni. he looked back at him. Ralsei was tapping two of his fingers together, and gave him a nervous smile. ".......Do you like it?"

"It's......somethin' I've never seen before that's for sure......Thanks." Ralsei smiled cutely at him. “...Why did you want to give me this?” "Oh! Well...todays supposed to be about showing love to the one you like, right?"

he stared at him, before looking at the valentine in his hands......then back at him. He was still smiling, waiting for an answer. Kris was....confused to say the least, but behind him Toriel made motions for him to ‘go on’ and he knew how much his mother hated being rude to guests “Oh....Would you-..Like to watch TV with me?”

Ralsei smiled wider. “I’d love to Kris!”

Day 5:

A young male made his way down the road, humming to himself. His destination was just up ahead. A small restaurant by the church area. A couple other people were sitting at tables and talking casually. But, he was looking for someone in particular.

" Ralsei! Over here!," a human called out, waving at him.

He smiled before walking over to the goat monster." Hi, Kris. Sorry I'm late." He sat across from him.

"I-It's alright.” 

“How's your friend? Noelle, right?" he smiled.

"She's doing good. The doctor said her dad might be able to go home in a few days..... To be honest, I wasn't sure if you were coming or not."

"Why wouldn't I?"

he felt his cheeks flush a pink color, and a smile graced his face. "Uh....do you want to get food?"

"Ya. That'd be nice."

He smiled before standing up and walking away." Be right back." 10 minutes later he came back carrying a small tray with 2 cheeseburgers, a salad, and drinks. "I..uh..just thought since you were a deer....you wouldn't eat meat." He rubbed the back of his neck.

"Oh, it's fine. But.....why did you get two burgers then?'' She pointed at the tray.

"Oh. Heh. I promised Noelle’s dad I'd sneak him in a veggieburger tomorrow. Hospital food sucks." They talked awhile about their lives and past failed romances, until Ralsei stopped. “..hey. Can I ask you a personal question?"

"Um..sure, I guess."

"....What did happen between you and Asriel?"

"Oh, him?.......Well, it turns out he just....is too busy with college I guess," he said with a sigh.

"Oh......sorry."

"Nah. Don't be. We're still brothers.'' He suddenly looked up." Whoa. It's getting late. My mom's probably wondering where I am. Here. I'll pay for the food," she offered, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a wallet.

"N-No. Don't do that. I'll pay."

"But.......I'm kinda used to doing it."

Addison scowled. The nerve of some people. Making him pay for the food and taking advantage of Kris like that. "Tell ya what......I'll pay for the food, and you leave the tip. Ok?"

he hesitated before nodding."......Thanks." She gave a soft smile.

"No problem."

Ounce everything was paid for, they both stood up. Kris holding the extra Veggie burger for Noelle’s Dad. "Do you want me to walk you home?," Ralsei offered.

"Nah. My Mom's picking me up." A honking noise to the left signaled the Mom's arrival. "There she is. Do you want a ride home?"

"No thanks. I don't live far from here. But, thanks for offering." he reached down to hug him, but stopped when he flinched back. “.Sorry."

"No. It's fine....I'm just not used to others touching me...but I can make an acception this time."

Ralsei leaned forward and slowly gave her a hug, which he happily returned. He blushed at the scent of cakes on him. A couple honks though interrupted them. Kris was the first to pull away. "I guess I'd better go."

"Y-Yeah. I better get going, too." He blushed and pulled his scarf up to cover his red cheeks." B-Bye, Kris. See ya later." "Bye, Ralsei. I hope to see you again soon.," he said slowly walking away.

"Thanks. I hope so, too." 

He watched silently as he climbed into the car and waved from the window as it drove by, and he happily waved back. He watched the car until it disappeared from sight before beginning his way home.

Day 6:

Being away from your mother could be a good thing. Especially if your mother was a bit overbearing like his. Ounce again, he was dragged to another grand event just because his mother wanted to get him outta the house. Or as his mother stated:

"Bringing you along to these school dances could benefit you, Kris. I know you don’t like socializing but you can not just remain a shut in for the rest of your life. You need to learn to get along with others.”

Great mom, right? Well, he couldn’t blame her that much. She was only trying to help. Right now he was slowly walking around the other guests. Politely excusing himself. he never really knew what to do in big crows. he didn't really know anyone, so it would be awkward to just start talking to some random stranger.

"Kris!," a voice called out.

Stopping, he turned around to face the person."Ralsei?," he asked. The prince of the dark world himself was making his way over to him. His heart sped up and he felt his face heat up as he stopped in front of him."Hi," he greeted.

"Um...H-Hi." Oh, man. Why couldn't he stop stuttering in front of him?! "Y-Your highness."

"No. None of that fancy stuff, please. We're both friends here."

“R-Right. Um.....How has your night been?"

He shrugged. "Pretty boring. I'm only here because Susie thought it’d be fun. I’ve never been to a lighner party before. What about you?”

"I....My...mother brought me." She looked down.

"Oh." He already knew about how his mother often tried to get him out of his comfort zone. "You....uh..maybe wanna dance?"

"R-Really? With me?"

He rubbed the back of his head. "Uh....yeah. I mean..You're the only one here that I know."

O-Ok." 

He offered him his hand and he shakily reached out to take it. He gently pulled him out towards the floor, where others were dancing. He gently pulled him closer to him and pressed his other hand to his back. Together they glided across the floor with him guiding Kris along.

Day 7:

What exactly made up a family? Most would picture a small house with a picket fence, a mom and dad, and a little boy and girl running around. But truth is it's not always that simple. Family is beyond blood or marriage. It's who's always making you smile and there for you....Or in his case a worried goat monster that wouldn't leave him alone for five minutes, but he didn’t mind. He sortof liked the attention since he it’s been so long since he felt this much loved, but right now-...As he snuggled down into the soft fluffy white fur of the sleeping goat monster, he sighed and almost drifted off to sleep if it wasn't for the absolute cute sneeze by the Dark World Prince. Ralsei scrunched his snout in sleep for a moment, making his glasses lopsided, before he relaxed back against Kris whi tensed at the sudden movement against him.....Before also relaxing back and allowing himself vulnerablility this one time.
