Il giorno è costituito dal dì e della notte.

Il giorno è convenzionalmente diviso in 4 fasi:

00.00 - 06.00: Notte

06.00 - 12.00: Mattino

12.00 - 18.00: Pomeriggio

18.00 - 00.00: Sera

La giornata come il dì, indica l'intervallo di tempo compreso tra l'alba e il tramonto (quindi sera e notte escluse, altrimenti avremmo avuto "serata" e "nottata").

Cambia solamente l'uso del termine in quanto sta ad indicare questo intervallo di tempo in rapporto alle attività (o alle condizioni fisiche e psichiche) di chi lo trascorre e ai fatti che accadono.

Espressioni idiomatiche con giornata:

Uova di giornata (raccolte oggi)

Vivere alla giornata (giorno per giorno)

Lavorare a giornata (rapporto di lavoro non stabile e continuativo ma occasionale e momentaneo)

In giornata (entro oggi)

Va a giornate (essere incostante nell’umore, nel rendimento ecc.) Possiamo dire quindi: giorno-giornata/sera-serata/notte-nottata/mattina-mattinata

Don’t say “prego”

If someone thanks you in Italian saying grazie, the most known answer to that is prego.

The word prego means “I pray/beg” and, it is used as an answer to grazie because it derives from the longer phrase “ti prego di non ringraziarmi” (I beg you not to thank me) that no one says anymore. For this reason, many italian native speakers, perceive it as just a recited formula, not very heartfelt. You can still use it in formal or semiformal environments, but there are more spontaneous alternatives for everyday use.

è stato un piacere!

Quando vuoi!

These are different ways to express that whatever you are being thanked for, was not a burden for you, in fact it was nothing (di niente) or even a pleasure (è stato un piacere) and you would do it again anytime they want (quando vuoi)!
