Coming to live with the Sullys in the forest was an easy decision to make.

A lot of overthinking during the relationship with you. He has been dating a woman before but things didn’t work as he thought about her. And because of this he has trust issues now.

He does like you! But he is unsure about his feelings , please give him some time to think about it because these questions roaming in his head just makes him really closed person towards you. He’s not even good with showing his emotions, of course he has them but it’s quite difficult for him to show them. He’s mostly with his blank stare or the tired one. But when it comes for him liking.. no.. loving someone he will be blushing a little and tries his best to not show it.

If you’re a kind person you will be getting more chance of getting close to him. At first he doesn’t avoid you he just doesn’t seem interested in you to start a conversation, well there can be times where he can try to start a little talk but he ends it quickly. I swear he is very friendly when you get to know him better.

He just loves receiving gifts , so you can keep that in mind.

Dating you

Now when he started dating you he was quite nervous, but he knew that you were kind enough to be trusted. It was too complicated for him to explain. Just give him lots of affection and he will be red in the face, especially if you had lipstick on while showering his face with kisses.

Please PLEASE hold this man he is so touch starved but doesn’t want to show it. It just makes him weak even if you hold his hand. 7.) How often do they say 'I love you?'

-Almost not at all lmfao. Or, well, Lurien does- but he's sneaky about it, and doesn't like to say it directly, and I imagine that it would take some years of being in a romantic relationship before he moves on to what he prefers, which are pet names like 'my dear, my love'. I feel like he would only ever say 'I love you' outright if it was his confession, and if he's confessing his love to PK then he's doing it because he thinks he's on death's door- or has already passed it, and found that he no longer cares more about properity than himself.

PK's affection is almost entirely told through possessive titles and actions, so he never says it outright. He doesn't need to, though- Lurien can read him like a book, and that in of itself is why he loves him. It's also what Lurien is the most responsive to, because he spends more time around shady politicians and bored nobility than PK, so for him words mean very little compared to actions, and he knows his lord well enough that hearing PK say 'I love you' would likely be suspect.

30.) What are their respective love languages? Do their love languages work well together?

-HA just kinda answered this, but Lurien's are words of affirmation and quality time with a desire to receive physical comfort while PK's is acts of service and quality time and giving physical comfort, so you bet your ass they work well together. Maybe it doesn't work out for them in initially getting them together (like I said a million times over, I can't see them getting together in the canon timeline bc both of them are too dedicated to Hallownest and surviving The Plot), but in aus where they do, they meld together very well. They're very much a pair where dates are just them spending time together working out problems or simply lying in each other's arms discussing things at length + sex. It helps that Lurien is touch starved and is keenly aware that PK is touch adverse, so the fact that PK willingly seeks physical comfort in him is a massive boon, while PK is happiest when he's giving Lurien whatever he wants or needs

38.) Who's got a quicker temper?

-Depends! My kneejerk response was actually Lurien, but I feel like in terms of overall touchiness, PK is actually easier to anger...as long as you're a god. The problem lies mostly in the fact that PK himself is terrible at telling his own moods, and also that if you're a mortal who isn't noteworthy enough to catch his attention, you're not really going to incite more than irritation. He gets angry at anything that he sees as a threat to Hallownest, his claim over his territory, or his territory itself (or themselves, since wyrm affection is all about posession and mating/breeding rights are implicitly tied to the ability to hold territory and power), so if you never hit the 'threat' classification and you're not making his loved ones upset, you're not going to actually anger him.

Lurien, on the other hand, is much more impatient and defensive, but this is bc he's disproportionatly exposed to infuriating people by virtue of being the head of the City, so his temper SEEMS much quicker than it actually is. Generally speaking, he's fine, but he's also dealing with like 10 million karens per year as well as changing social structures and an endless tasklist of Problems and anxiety disorders on top of it all. Dude doesn't have a quick temper, he's just often under stress and that tends to lead to snappy behavior. Otherwise he's perfectly happy just helping people, discussing philosophy, and painting cityscapes while drinking tea

🌻coriander: what do they love the most about their s/o, both physical and personality-wise?

You’re some whose very easy for him to talk to. He doesn’t feel like you’re judging him, or underestimating his strength, or making any assumptions based on factors outside of his control. He feels like he could tell you anything, and having this emotional security is incredibly important to Marion; it’s always been difficult to let his real feelings shine through, but it wasn’t healthy for him to keep them inside constantly, so he needed a person who he felt could understand him. Even if you didn’t have the same opinions as he did, there was just something that made him comfortable speaking freely with you.

Marion likes your eyes. They’re like windows to the soul, or so Nova used to joke, but he never really understood the phrase ‘getting lost in their eyes’ until you. He could stare into your eyes forever if you let him but normally, you’d get too flustered, having to look away while Marion couldn’t possibly mirror you.

🌻daisy: what is their love language, both giving and receiving?

Giving: Acts of Service. This is more a goal set by himself but Marion likes to prove that he’s ‘useful’ to you; it’s nothing you’ve ever commented on, and you don’t quite know where it came from as its not like he has anything to prove. He just liked the feeling of knowing he was making your day easier, even when he was busy himself he still tried to fit in tasks that would make your day easier by the end of it. It’s not something he willingly admits to, of course, denying that it’s coming from the love he has for you as it would be too embarrassing to admit.

Receiving: Quality Time. Marion isn’t a high-maintenance lover, as much as his standards might have you perceive him that way. He doesn’t want you going out of your way to do things for him, nor does he have a need for endless gifts (although he won’t ever deny home-cooked breakfast). He always preferred doing things together when your free-time allowed it, like cooking together or watching movies with the entire family; at first he was nervous about spending time alone with you but now it’s exactly what he needs to keep his head on straight.

🌻fennel: what are their kisses like? where do they like to be kissed the most?

Marion’s kisses are thoughtful, always coming in a moment that you suspect yet still knocking you off your feet anyway. You can’t help but lean in to him and it’s exactly what he wants, that closeness that comes with being unabashedly in love. He preferred to take the moments slow, as much as his nerves were set alight when you kissed he couldn’t help but want to savor the moment.

He would say the lips if asked but he doesn’t have a preference, a kiss is a kiss but he does like ones he can reciprocate. When you’re quick with kissing him on the cheek or forehead he always tried to grab you before you could get away, which you now made into a game knowing he wanted to reciprocate any affection you gave him. It left you both giggling in a way you didn’t think Marion was capable of before dating him, kissing each other’s faces until your other responsibilities were remembered.

🌻peony: how do they get their s/o to blush? how does their s/o make them blush?

Marion is always proud when he managed to set up a perfectly romantic moment for the two of you to enjoy together, and the confidence he has about knowing you is something you can’t help but blush over. There are some partners who might take a more bashful approach to it but knowing you inside and out is a source of pride for Marion, who put endless effort into your relationship while training his hardest to be a great hero.

Marion is surprisingly easy to make blush, almost like its natural reaction to your presence. It happened when you leaned in close or suddenly start giving him physical affection before he can mentally prepare, or when you sincerely compliment an outfit you think he looks good in. Having any sort of praise coming from you pleased him, but romantic attention made him more nervous than other kids of attention from you.

🌻sweet pea: are they big on cuddling? what is their favorite position to cuddle their s/o in?

Marion enjoyed cuddling as long as he was in a good mood, as he preferred being left alone or not being confined if he was angry/worked up. There are times where he needs comfort that he’ll let you know it’s okay to be close to him, a comforting arm wrapped around his shoulder as he leaned into you and tried to get ahold of himself as he didn’t want your mood to tank alongside his. There’s something inherently comforting about having a person you can simply lean against and absorb their warmth without being questioned on it, although teasing is imminent especially when the cuddling happens on movie nights.

His favorite way to cuddle was when you were on the couch together, a nice blanket spread across your legs, either you curled up into him or him resting his head on your shoulder. He thought it was nice if somewhat distracting, the first few times finding it impossible to fully focus on the movie but eventually falling into a comfortable rhythm where Jacqueline wouldn’t constantly squeal about how cute the two of you were.

So this kind of part two of What would Diluc, Thoma, Xiao, and Kaeya’s love languages be? This can be read as standalone, but I won’t be giving sources\quotes for the same things that I’ve already established in the first part.

Another note is that there are signs of affection that a character would like to receive, then there are things they’d like, but would hate to admit, and then there are things that they are not even self-aware enough to realize

Diluc

Okay, so Diluc represses emotions like whoa, hinges his self-worth on being useful and needs external validation to access positive feelings.

So he really needs gratitude and praises, but they need to feel earned, he has to spend enough effort, achieve great results and only then he can be complimented on them, otherwise it doesn’t count

So like the baseline of keeping his anxiety low is asking him to do smth for you and then telling him he did a good job, then he can be like “I’ve received a good grade at being in a relationship, I can feel good about myself :)”.

But tbh the best thing to do for him long term is steering towards accepting unconditional affection, tho that’s not a quick process

Another nice thing to do is force him to take a break\enjoy himself, bc he won’t do it himself, and you’d need to exploit “would do anything for someone he cares about” loophole

gift-wise, will value anything made by you over most expensive things no matter how ugly the handmade thing is

Thoma really appreciates gifts and gestures with personal, symbolic meaning behind them (hangout, giving him a token from Mond), especially if the symbolic meaning is about belonging together\commitment, bc that’s one of his weak spots

Kaeya goes into any relationship with expectation that first of all, it will end, and second that it will end badly if the truth about him comes out, no matter how seemingly close you were before, and he’s not even blaming or mad at the other person, he thinks its just par for the course

his abandonment issues are on another level, like he’s never even been on “please don’t leave me” stage, he went right into “i will be left no matter what, so there’s no point in trying to stop it, i should just enjoy whatever scraps of affection I can get and try to not get attached too much and not let the other person to get attached too much to minimize the heartbreak in the end”

the easiest way for him to accept affection is if it can be at least disguised as “just fun”, which is why as i said in the first post, spending time together and enjoying each other’s company is his favorite thing

but like making sure to let him know he is the main reason you’re having a great time? like he gets treated dismissively way too much, his brother acts like he barely tolerates him, at least in public, Rosa talks about him with ironic detachment, which like yeah part of the “keeping distance from others” act from both of them, so no shade to her, but it adds up. from his remark “And they say my charm is fake” it’s clear his presence not being acknowledged as truly wanted gets to him

out of all ppl around him, only Jean constantly and openly supports and stands up for him. which is why he supports her completely, but tries to give credit to someone else when doing nice things for her (Jean’s party in her story quest)- to try and keep the distance. bc again, he’s living under the constant threat of a falling sword

a nice, grounding thing to do for Kaeya i think would be creating a little ritual that is repeated often, and even if you’re having a fight or smth. like idk, leaving a funny doodle on his desk, smth that takes zero effort, just a small, but constant affirmation that you thought of him and he is wanted no matter what else is going on

i think that would do more for his anxiety than grand gestures or promises, bc he’s used to not trust the words

another thing is that bc of this anxiety, he clearly feels like he has to be a ~fun person~ to be around and be entertaining to deserve attention, see Depression Notes #2 where right after “no one cares to celebrate anything in my life haha :) :) :)” quote from earlier he asks to sit with him for a while and offers to tell stories in return. babe, it’s your birthday, you don’t have to do anything to earn company

Jeff is very passionate with just about everything and can bet a bit intense at times, even if he doesn't mean to be

His usual ways of showing affection of grabbing you from surprise by behind, literally sweeping you off your feet and play fighting

That and lot's of teasing, sarcastic but sweet comments and poking fun at you

Thankfully his words make you laugh a lot but not so much his actions

Though he loved you, it was clear rough housing with you wasn't the way to go, he wasn't scared of hurting you but it seemed to be more awkward than enjoyable

He's a bit hesitant to touch you sometimes because he doesn't want to unsettle you but it's a bit awkward because he shows his love through physical affection

He'll start small by wrapping his arms around you instead and resting his head on your shoulder when you don't expect it

It's nice, he enjoys the smell of your hair, the shampoo reminds him of you

He just likes your hair in general, its so much softer and better taken care of than his, he'd run his fingers through it so carefully not wanting to catch on any knots

One thing I imagine he'd really like with you is dancing

He can still hold you close and swing you around but this way you both can enjoy it

Jeff will keep you close, one hand on your waist at all times unless he's giving you a twirl

As the two of you get more comfortable with it he'll dip you back and kiss the top of your nose softly before pulling you back up

Seeing you laugh and smile while expressing his adoration for you makes his heart swell

Han Joo Won: the 'I don't like touching people' boy and his manhandling victim.

Hi! I am here once again to give you a Beyond Evil analysis/meta-commentary. This time we are discussing Joo Won's whole touch deal... (and briefly discussing Dong Sik's, as well).

This show has a very big thing about hands and touching (women's fingertips are literally cut off) and they decided to have one of its main characters are issues with touch and chooses to avoid it. Who then proceeds to... well... we all know.

This is an excerpt from the essay I mentioned in this post. So, if it reads as being a bit little unfinished that's because it is meant to be a part of a larger piece.

I will also prefix that this post doesn't really delve into Joo Won's mental health or family history. It's just a commentary on how he treats Dong Sik differently from other people.

[I advise not taking shots every time you read the word "touch"... you'll end up in hospital]

[A continuation from a separate paragraph.]

As physical touch is something that can be taken away, for a character like Joo Won who struggles with giving and receiving it, it is important that there are only two characters that Joo Won will actively choose to touch throughout the show; as in, he chooses to touch them more than once.

Those two characters are Kwon Hyuk and Lee Dong Sik.

Joo Won touches Dong Sik (in the beginning) due to surges of uncontrollable anger, feelings of upset, or frustration. Other people have the capacity to upset, frustrate, and anger Joo Won but he doesn’t get physical with them in the same way. Almost like he doesn’t want to be in their personal space.

This is deemed as an unusual characteristic, considering Joo Won's preference for avoidance. The show's creators highlight that this is not a signifier of Joo Won being a hypocrite or a liar, but instead, it portrays that Joo Won either cannot control his emotions and/or actions around Dong Sik, or he doesn't want to.

Joo Won treats Dong Sik (physically) from everyone else in his life. We are given a direct comparison to show us the difference in which Joo Won treats Dong Sik. That is shown through Joo Won's relationship with Kwon Hyuk. Dong Sik and Hyuk are the only people (that I remember) receiving physical contact from Joo Won that was affectionate.

However, the intensity with which he touches them is the main difference. For Hyuk, Joo Won would pat his shoulder quickly to show his thanks and appreciation. It is friendly, platonic, emotionally stunted and a little sterile but affectionate, nonetheless.

Compared to Dong Sik, well… In the most simplistic terms, Joo Won manhandles Dong Sik.

Within South Korean media, it is not uncommon for male characters to display their frustration by manhandling another male.

Are some examples. However, the frequency in which Joo Won does this is what makes him stand out.

Dong Sik also manhandles male characters when he has lost his temper (Club man, Han Joo Won, the guy he may have killed). For a character as multi-faceted as Dong Sik, it would have been easy for the show to make Dong Sik a touchy-feely man, as it would have fitted within his archetype: bouncy, loud, maybe the village gay, vibrant... tactile. But they didn't; Dong Sik isn't very physical at all. There are three occasions (or reasons) in which Dong Sik is tactile:

Moments of extreme anger: always toward men and always because the male is acting in an unacceptable way (The club man, punching Joo Won in the face, maybe killing that other guy)

Moment of extreme stress: trying to save Sang Yeob's life

Moments of affection: offering comfort to his mother and Joo Won.

Unlike, the two times he reacted negatively to Joo Won touching him (the first time Joo Won touched him and when Joo Won handcuffed them together), Dong Sik tends to not have that much of a reaction to being touched. Having said that, there is one time I can think of when Dong Sik is touched by another male and he has an immediate negative reaction. In episode 3, Jung Je pulls on Dong Sik's arm to stop him from walking and Dong Sik (notably angry) yanks his arm away.

So, despite the fact that Dong Sik's characterisation could have easily made him a tactile person, they chose not to do that. I believe they did this to show that despite how (initially) antagonistic Joo Won was, Dong Sik never had that much of an issue with the younger man touching him. If he did, he would do more about it, as proven by the scene with Jung Je.

[Side note: Dong Sik was beaten up by the police when he was twenty. So, I do think there is something to say about how he reacts to Joo Won being aggressive with him. Dong Sik has a side of him that can be aggressive and when pushed, he can become physically violent (beating up the man he might have killed and choking Lee Chang Jin are two examples), which suggests that Dong Sik is not a passive man. However, those instances were when he was the aggressor. When he is on the receiving end of aggression, especially if it is Joo Won as the aggressor, he becomes placid and almost like a rag-doll. Due to his history, it would suggest that this is a trauma response, his way of trying to keep Joo Won from actually hitting him. BUT, but, but, but that doesn't explain this-

The amounts of times Dong Sik does shit like this ^

Despite his history of being assaulted and Joo Won's continual aggressive behaviour, Dong Sik sure doesn't have a problem being in Joo Won's personal space. He might not actively choose to touch Joo Won but he does get in his personal space. I think it's partially because he wants to intimidate and aggravate him with his ambiguous sexuality and because he enjoys it. His way of dealing with Joo Won's aggression is kind of like: what?? are you going to punch me or kiss me? make your mind up, I'm waiting... He's an interesting, complicated, slutty man... ]

But like many other characters within South Korean media, especially in the crime genre, Dong Sik's acts of physically touching other characters are sporadical. He'll do it once (perhaps twice to a certain character) and that’ll be it. [from my personal knowledge] Han Joo Won is not like other mainstream male characters in South Korean media (within the crime genre), he’s (despite his mysophobia/mental health) a very tactile person and will go out of his way to be physical with Dong Sik.

Joo Won is the (one of two) main character in a show that is within the crime/murder/mystery genres. He is not a love interest in an obvious romance show. He is not showing his anger for reasons of jealousy, protection, or peacocking and yet, he still finds a way to physically touch Dong Sik. The older man is not his rival in his romantic life or at work, he is his suspect turned ally. He is a man Joo Won (at one point in time) seems to loathe... and yet, from the beginning, he finds any excuse to be in his personal space. Joo Won doesn't do this with any other character.

What is telling about Joo Won’s interest in only touching Dong Sik, is that as their relationship develops, his touches diversify:

Grabbing Dong Sik’s clothes: to prevent him from moving (episode 3-16)

Grabbing Dong Sik’s clothes: to pull him closer/emphasise his point or his feelings (episode 3-16)

Holding onto Dong Sik even when Dong Sik is doing something else (checking his phone: episode 6)

4 specific examples that stand out to me:

Cradling Dong Sik’s crying body whilst holding hands with him (episode 10)

Angrily holding onto Dong Sik’s clothes, pulling him closer and looking at his lips (episode 14??)

A soft (absent-minded) brush of his hand (episode 15)

Clutching Dong Sik’s hands and crying into them (episode 16)

(This show has a lot of hands in it and that’s so beautiful)

Here's a quick visual example/summary of the progression:

The first time Joo Won touches Dong Sik [Disclaimer: I'm discounting the ep1 hand pat because ep3 was the first time he is the initiatator]

The last

Joo Won's tactile nature with Hyuk displays his philia/storge* love for him. Whereas, the way Joo Won touches Dong Sik shows his eros/ludus "love"/interest/repressed feelings for the older man. It is passionate, angry, confused, uncontrollable, desperate, and lustful. But then it becomes: repressed, affectionate, desperate, passionate, lustful, caring, absent-minded, and natural.

One display is relaxed, not easily given and platonic (Hyuk). The other is intense and is not platonic in the slightest (Dong Sik). Further proving how differently Joo Won views and treats Dong Sik.

*the seven kinds of love defined by the Ancient Greeks.

Joo Won is… hilarious and so obvious.

In the beginning, he thinks that Dong Sik is either a serial killer or at least complicit in multiple women’s brutal murders and yet, he’s popping around his house, whispering in his ear, getting in his personal space- he doesn’t fear Dong Sik.

Dong Sik’s person doesn’t set off his mysophobia, he does, however, cause Joo Won to have anxiety responses to their interactions. (This is also triggered because of other things going on with Joo Won’s mental health/ the stressful nature of the situation.)

A quick summary of the different ways Joo Won's able to touch others:

Moments of stress or extreme anger: always toward men and always because the male is acting in an unacceptable way (Dong Sik, the group he beats up in ep5//kind of, Kang Jin Mook) Moment of extreme stress: trying to save Nam Sang Bae's life Moments of affection: Dong Sik (I don't need to elaborate). For work: Joo Won is capable of touching people for work. As shown by his interactions with those who are mentally unwell: Bang Ho Cheol, the boy from episode 2, Jung Je.

If it's for work, he can do it. But does he want to? No. This further proves that there are only two people he actually wants to touch: Hyuk and Dong Sik.

Notably, he never touches any of the female characters, either.

What I’m trying to say is: that Dong Sik from the get-go is a special case in Joo Won’s life and I think that further supports Joo Won’s queer coding.

So, as we have established how Joo Won treats Dong Sik differently, we now must ask: why?

Anyway, thank you for reading this short excerpt from that essay I mentioned. I had a whole bit analysing Joo Won's mysophobia and his potential OCD/ASD and how that affects his actions. But I've decided not to include it because it lacks direction and doesn't do his character justice. Not to say that this entry does, but it has something to say, even if it the obvious and only small.
