what is ladrien rpf 👀

ladrien rpf is based on this prompt i wrote, which turned into a whole conversation on the aps discord server where we decided marinette and adrien should collaborate on a ladrien rpf comic together. i have not actually written anything for it, but it was on my list of possibilities for the ladrien zine, so i collected the conversation in a document (which is how it got included on my "touched in the last year list")

some highlights include:

adrien was the only person writing ladrien before gorizilla. afterwards a bunch on people went home and looked up "ladrien" and found his fic, which means he actually set the tropes and characterizations for ladrien fandom

HOWEVER a lot of people disagree with his characterization of adrien and think he's written him too weepy and smitten

this exception to this is marinette, who has been reading his fic since before gorizilla and still thinks he has the most accurate ladybug and adrien out there

she does have some criticism of his ladybug characterization actually

there are definitely ladrien vs ladynoir ship wars but adrien ships and writes both

anyways the end up writing a weekly comic where ladrien just go cuddle and go to farmers markets and raise their hamster

except adrien tries to keep it fresh by adding action/adventure, much to marinette's chagrin, because she does not know how to draw a grocery story in space

she also is way too embarassed to draw any of the kisses he writes

this is all via their online handles btw they have no idea who they're collabing with

people have been very kind to me and I feel very lucky! but what comes to mind first is when @pyrusinc called one of my fics their favorite song. 😭🩷 They’re always killing me bc they’ve read that fic a bunch of times and always leave such thoughtful comments on it!!

🌷What's one of your fics that isn't as popular, but you hold dear?

i have one written one ouran fic so far but i had a lot of fun writing it and im fond of it 🫶

🦉Is there another author that helped inspire you to write?

I am inspired by a lot of authors! The author who initially inspired me to write when i was growing up unfortunately turned out to be a turd bucket so i would rather talk about some fanfic authors that inspire me 💖 @picayunearts @anna-scribbles @sha-nwa @bahbahhh @botherkupo @taliaxlatia @lollytea @revelisms @rosekasa to name a few! 🥺 Is there any "golden" for the WIP game?

This was a half-reveal enemies AU that I wrote a part of while S4 was airing. It's been a long time since I reread it, so I'm not sure if I'd still like it—I think I'd want to tighten and shorten it by a lot if I ever revisited it. Thank you Bren ❤️ (WIP guessing game)

😱What's your greatest fear as a fanfic writer?

oh geez tbh too many to name and none that matter UM. probably my biggest fear is that i will be misunderstood, which is inevitable in art, since art is a form of communication and there will always be miscommunication, but i try so hard to be heard and to be understood that I think it hurts the most when i am not understood

🌷What's one of your fics that isn't as popular, but you hold dear?

Ooh. I went and sorted my works by kudos and started from the bottom and while there are a few special ones down there, I think the most special one is The Butterfly Effect. I really enjoyed getting to play with an Adrien who's turned bitter, who mirrors his father's canon mistakes. It's also a really experimental style for me, and I liked playing with the lyrics of the song in that new way.

🦗Do you write in sequence or jump around?

I'm about 90% in sequence. I will jump around for climactic events, though, or dramatic backstory reveals. With the HP AU, I wrote the final climax about 8 different times over the 9 years of that project before I actually got to the ending. I also had a big character reveal chapter that I sat on for four of those years. For Boulangerella, I wrote the chapter "Emotion" where Gabriel tries to claim Tikki and Plagg's power long before I even began publishing the work. But, at the end of the day, I put most of it in sequence. It's just the dramatic turning points I'll flesh out early on to make sure all seeds are appropriately planted.

I try to! I usually get to most of them. When a fic is old, I don't always manage it. I just enjoy comments so much, and I try to acknowledge and express appreciation for the positive impact they have on me!

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably Going It Alone (Sailor Moon), though it could be Last Wishes (Ladybug)

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I'm gonna go with -> Let Yourself Be Happy

8. Do you get hate on fics?

It happens. It's not frequent though.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, when I have to. I write loving wholesome smut that is fueled purely by spite.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

No. The idea of crossovers are strange to me.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No? Hope not anyway!

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Someone asked if they could once, but I don't think it got finished.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not technically. But sometimes I push my betas to have a pretty heavy hand.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Probably Lovesquare, but I covet Adrino more in that it's rarer, so whenever I find it I obsess. But I think love sqaure is more dynamic. There's more to do and explore with it. I get more ideas for them. But Adrino has become my comfort ship. When I'm sad or on the cusp of breaking I turn to Adrino.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Coming Of Age (Sailor Moon) - I just don't live and breathe this one anymore, but it's such a good premise.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue. Satisfying arcs/endings.

Imagery/Description

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I use to have Japanese words in some of my Sailor Moon fic. I LOVED honorifics!! I started to use less and less Japanese (besides honorifics. I always kept those. They're versatile in storytelling for showing how a relationship is changing. I love them!) because I felt like it hindered understanding in places. But I can't spell in French for some reason. Can't even get myself to consistently use Monsieur instead of Mr. Haha!

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Chrono Trigger Or actually, I did some roleplaying on message boards for Wheel of Time back in the day!

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

I think right now it's Aftermath, but it's not done. Neither is Right Behind You, which is my other favorite. Haha! Of my finished fics, I'd probably choose Restorative Justice.

i love love love long comments, especially comments that make note of specific lines they liked!!! and in general comments that reference specific things about the story, questions or speculation! and comments on old fic. and… i just really love all types of comments 💕

Usually yes but I haven't been good at it lately 😬 I like letting people know I appreciated them commenting, but I've been pretty lazy these days so I haven't answered much (or sometimes I see a comment and it's been posted weeks ago and I feel awkward answering so late after dfjhjdf). But I do read every comment and I appreciate greatly people taking the time to do so 😭 I've noticed a few times recently same readers commenting a few of my fics at once or in only a few days and big love to you all, thanks so much ♥︎

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oooh most definitely the one I wrote this year which is we'll find your new colour

Most of my fics have a very happy ending but I guess one of the fluffiest and most heart-warming one I wrote was A game of pretend

I can't remember getting any right now. Maybe most I got was someone correcting my grammar and that was it, or some confusing bookmark comment that I can't remember exactly.

Nope!

Not that I'm aware of. An idea stolen yes I believe but that's kind of it

Yes, I think someone translated 2 of my fics in Russian

I don't recall so.. I think there were plans with people but it never led to anything.

Lovesquare definitely!!

I have an aged-up Ladrien/Ladynoir one shot wip that I'm afraid will never see the light of day. And I really really want to finish ask her (me) out, also because it's a gift to a fandom friend, but I'm afraid I'll never get to sit down and finish it. We'll see, you never know maybe one day I will 😂

16. What are your writing strengths?

Uuuhh...... I think I've been told I have good dialogues or that I'm good at making the characters seem in-character? But I'm not sure hahaha you'll tell me

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm bad with description among other things

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Okay so I will say: if some characters are switching languages and the reader isn't supposed to understand the language picked and it's short, then yes (or if the reader needs to understand and there's a translation)! Otherwise personally not too into it. For ML, especially random words in French thrown into the dialogue or the text in general with no translations and for no reason (a nickname or something / swearing for instance then sure I'm fine with it and do it sometimes too, but I've seen in some fics at times the most random words/sentences translated to French and it's always thrown me off a little. And sometimes no English translation of these words are offered - at least I'm French and can understand but someone who doesn't speak French might just be confused hahaha). But that's my personal feelings about it, I understand why some writers like to do it and I respect that & it shows how dedicated they are especially when they're not French themselves so don't feel bad if you do it yourself!

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

That's hard.... I think Compatible is one of the fic I had the most fun writing. Today I'd def write the introduction to the fic very differently because it's a lot of "telling not showing" before getting into the fic, but the dialogue and banter in it was a lot of fun to write

Good evening, @jattendschaton! @enberlight here with your Secret Sunspot for the @mlsecretsanta 2020 Exchange. I heard you might like Ladrien?

I accidentally wrote a little ficlet snippet that goes along with this... choose your own ending ;)

She wasn’t sure exactly what had brought her here tonight, but as Adrien wove a subtle melody alongside her, fingers sliding languidly across the piano keys, she was glad she had. The tension of weeks past started melting away, the world around the piano bench disappeared, and she found herself leaning into him as her eyes drifted shut.

Lost in the comforting swell of the music, she didn’t notice the slight stutter in the improvised melody, or the way he briefly stiffened, then relaxed, as her thigh pressed against his. The notes gradually slowed, though, as her weight confined his left arm. She blinked slowly, the sense of warmth along her right side the first sensation to enter her awareness before she realized the music had stopped.  She stammered, righting herself by pressing her hand to his leg, then froze in shock at the intimate position. Her heart raced as she struggled for something to say, or a way to unfreeze herself, but he only smiled at her softly.  

“I take it you like the melody?” His voice was warm, a chuckle barely hidden in the way he spoke.

She nodded, eyes transfixed by his, by the tender light she saw there. She wasn’t sure if her heart was speeding up or slowing down, but then it stopped altogether as he lifted his hand, gently brushing his fingertips beneath her chin, his thumb resting just below her lips. He leaned in closer, his arm wrapped gently around her back, pulling her subtly to him as he tenderly held her shoulder. The comforting warmth, the weight of his care, had her relaxing into his touch.

“I’m glad,” he murmured, leaning in just a little closer, his gaze dropping down to her lips…
