I'm using an alternate fingering for high A in Mendelssohn 3 and it is sounding very flat whenever I practice at home. However, in orchestra, the alt. fingering sounds in tune. Which is not making sense to me, because A is the tonic and shouldn't need to be altered to be in tune?

It works better in context, so I will continue to practice it.

some very scary stuff in here for those of us building their happiness on playing musical instruments.

The bit that saved me came close to the end though:

"Perfectionist thinking, thought to be associated with dystonia, is a pre-requisite for entry into elite playing, with the expectation of a “clean” performance as the virtuoso’s signature. Researchers speculate that classical musicians are especially susceptible to dystonia, as opposed to jazz or other genre musicians, because of the limitations placed on personal expression by scored music, and the pressures to carbon-copy recordings of famous players."

Although I do play classical music, I have zero perfectionism in that endeavour and am playing it more like a jam session. So I'm hoping that I'm not at risk of the troubles discussed here ...

I've uploaded my recital to YouTube, and some pieces got copyright claimed for melody (which is not a strike, just can't monetise which I can't anyway), and some of my pieces were modern enough for them to still be under copyright, like muczynski sonata and a piece by Robert Dick, so that's fine. But why the fuck is CPE Bach stuff under copyright??? Why is BMG holding rights to a composer dead 232 years???
