So, we were sad, but we also agreed that “Kin’emon is like definitely safe.” “He’s been with us for like half the series now, hey can’t just kill him.” “He just HAS to see the land of Wano opened up, his life has been pretty much nothing but tragedy.” “He’s the best and we love him. He deserves a happy ending”

But no. Then they hit me with the father-son feelings he had developed towards Momo!?!??? WHAT!?!! YOU CANNOT DO THAT TO ME ISTG!!!

Reread a few of the early scenes of Egghead where the crew first arrive at the island of science and meet Punk-02 and wow, she really is a walking bundle of thematic ties to Kiku.

The first satellite the crew meets is a young woman who calls herself a humble genius while using an archaic personal pronoun typically preferred by older men, is encountered in snowy weather, and has the name of a demon, though is truthfully very friendly to those she likes.

“This one is a samurai” or “Kikunojo of the Fallen Snow” can appear demon-like in appearance and demeanor, though is introduced as a friendly and unassuming woman, offering various forms of medical care for the injured and sick.

In spite of Lilith having “evil” as her epithet, she seems to be fairly open and emotionally attached to the other satellites, having shown concern over the well being of both Atlas and Edison. Without giving her say, an unwanted suitor, it’d be hard to thematically tie her to Kiku more than she already is. Actually though the Straw Hats sort of represent that for her, with others in the story suggesting she is going to be sailing with them, in spite of her objections.

The biggest personality difference between the two then, is that Lilith often acts recklessly or without tact, where Kiku is very methodical and thoughtful.

Then where does that leave Shaka the “good,” Lilith’s big foil this arc? The one so easily able to get on Lilith’s nerves, whose true face is hidden, and who seemed pretty suspicious in chapter 1074. All of which sounds a lot like Kiku’s main antagonist last arc. I (unfortunately) can’t or won’t discount Caribou’s potential involvement, though I am keeping a close eye on Shaka as the arcs progresses. I mean, the dude has “caution” embroidered on his sleeve ffs. Who knows? Maybe Shaka has secretly been Gin all this time, planning his revenge on the Straw Hats, waiting to strike.
