star trek the savage trade was. so much. there were implications. there were friendships. there were ten thousand unfulfilled ideas. it was not well written but it WAS a ten course meal of food for thought

the most interesting part of this book was the complexity between spock and valek which was completely disregarded even though it arguably had the most interesting stuff going on. for example; when they meet up again after over ten years

varen is her twin brother, which we’ll get to. but here she’s pretty rude towards spock, despite later telling kirk that she felt bad for bullying him/formally arguing against his existence when they were kids. which. okay. only to LATER find out she’s been amongst humans for over ten years. she even starts this little romantic thing with kirk like this

she does stuff like this multiple times. kirk as the narrator even frequently mentions how ‘un-vulcan’ her actions are

i thought it might have been heading in a direction where she also felt like her emotions were getting the better of her as a kid, maybe making her feel like spock was better than her even being half vulcan, but no. it was just about her going along with every other vulcan’s prejudice towards him. then there was this whole thing where she came to take back her opinions because she respected sarek and amanda so much, and of course once spock grew up and proved himself’ she respected him too. but like. there’s so much there. the main point made here regarding all this was that vulcans underestimated spock because obviously spock is great but he couldn’t earn respect until he proved himself in his profession. until then though it was public debate over his existence. imagine your classmate getting up and arguing you shouldn’t be alive. and the only person who’s disagreeing with her is her brother. WHICH.

next point: spock ‘when i feel friendship for you i feel ashamed’ has longtime childhood friends he still keeps in contact with? obsessed. what’s this? you’re not going to include him in the narrative? bro. varen is apparently spock’s only friend from way back and this isn’t even talked about. it’s basically just the reason why valek was angry with spock as kids but she already didn’t like him so it wasn’t like her brother and spock being friends was a catalyst. what i’m getting at is that this author put SO MANY interesting things in the story and then just didn’t use them. ACTUALLY GOING OFF THAT

obsessed when novels mention sybok. this one’s especially interesting as according to her, sybok was seen as better than spock. in the final frontier novel it went that sybok felt like an outcast already, and was noticeably more emotional than other vulcans. spock, who assimilated and became as vulcan as possible to offset being half human, was still seen as less? insanity. i just feel like there’s so much going on here talking about spock’s childhood and then when you read the end of the savage trade spock’s just chillin with ben franklin absolutely uncaring (which good for him. if i met a childhood bully who was now everything she bullied ME for? i would be ruthless. spock elects to lose to benny frank in chess multiple times so he’s above all that)

anyways there was so much the author could have done with valek because she was really really interesting but her and spock almost never interact and it ends up falling pretty flat. LOST OPPORTUNITIES, like pretty much every star trek book in existence

ok one final thing the spock and varen being vulcan lab partners thing was really cute

#sorry i literally want to tear this book apart with my teeth THERE WAS SO MUCH THAT COULD HABE BEEN EXPANDED UPON #and yet the runtime is filled with kirk and valek trying to get togethr 💀#also like half the plotlines of the first half of the book were completely dropped in the end this was NOT a well written book but bro #whatever happened with valek and spock and varen was ten thousand times more interesting #especially if we wanna discuss spock having a single friend from childhood he still keeps in contact with #i think that’s nice that’s something i want for spock even if it doesn’t really fit his character as someone who felt so alienated from v #vulcans that he ended up in starfleet #i would love to read abt him and varen what do they talk about? apparently varen attended the VSA so #they send their upcoming papers back and forth for editing and in the space version of google doc comments they drop all the drama from #their respective workplaces #ok fr tho i think this part of the book would have benefitted from valek and spock having more interactions. i mean she’s REALLY out here #acting very human and the FIRST thing she does is get on his case about FRIENDSHIP? when literal chapters later she commits the same crime!#i KNOW its bad writing bc in what world would spock admit to having friends but BRO. in the context of the story taking it at face value BRO #also. it was kinda funny that in the beginning of the book kirk is so wow mr spock its like we have a consistent and ongoing mindmeld we’re #so in synch <3 #and then turns around and falls in love with this woman because she’s sooo vulcan #sorry! it’s funny to me. what do you really want sir 🤔#ok kidding i thought the valek / kirk thing was kinda sweet #i need to annotate this book and everything because the only thing mccoy did this whole story was have crazy sex with the ex gf of the #guy who wrote candid which. not my fav of the high school lit but #there was a slavery plot that mostly got dropped with the two alien races from the beginning #i think if i could rewrite any book it would be this one because it was THERE IT WAS ALL THERE. it just needed the talent and the time #okokok im done. for now #captain’s log #trek books #tos

(The Freelancers are just there and OK, don’t worry about it, everybody is alive and friends in this scenario, it’s fine)

-Florida makes everybody Uncomfortable... plus, he and Sarge start this REALLY awkward flirt-fight thing, where maybe they’re dating Romeo/Juliet/forbidden-love-style, maybe they also wanna stab each other, maybe both (this is the equivalent of two single dads that get together, and it embarrasses the heck of the kids “Gross! Old people love”)

-Florida also keeps halfway flirting with Church (like maybe not, but also kinda yes) in his very specific creepy way, and Church is just like “Uh... no thank you???”, and then Sarge calls him a home-wrecker

-York vibes with Grif, and keeps helping him rig snack machines to spill free goodies. Also, he intentionally sets-up Donut to say all kinds of innuendos. York totally encourages the bad puns and double-entendres (if it makes everybody else groan, that means he won)

-Flowers and Donut are a whole SPECTACLE for the others to hear

-South and Kai become this unstoppable FORCE OF CHAOS, and their bros are over there begging them to be normal for 5 minutes

-South also gets along with Donut, she likes that he knows all the drama, and he likes how mean-funny she is

-North and York both LOVE being overly-supportive of Wash, he’ll be doing something normal like getting a bowl of cereal or whatever, and they’ll be cheering “Look at our boy gooooo!” etc like embarrassing parents at a soccer game

-Wash loves hanging out with the Triplets again, and people start calling them the Quartet

-Everybody gave Wyoming the silent treatment for almost 2 whole months, which drove him crazy

-When they finally acknowledged his existence, he started having all kinds of arguments with Sarge (it is a nightmare to listen to them; Sarge is a yee-haw and Wyoming is like the evil-version of Bert from Mary Poppins)

-Other people keep taking the “Grifshot” and hiding it somewhere Maine can find find it, and he ALWAYS gives it back to Grif... who is like a timid little bunny rabbit in that situation

-Maine will also just stand around and watch Tucker do stuff. Tucker feels like this is some kind of INTIMIDATION act, but Maine literally just thinks Tucker is cool

-Lopez was initially indifferent to all these extra morons he has to hang out with, but Connie actually pays attention to him and is the only one who knows how to chill, so they get along really well

-People were surprised that Tucker wasn’t immediately flirting with the new girls, but he honestly assumed that South and Connie were a couple and he was trying to be a good ally-bro (they start playing it up, and... maybe they ARE a couple???)

-He DID try to hit on Ohio, which everybody thought was hilarious

-Kai is less subtle; who’s single and what are you into?

-Iowa for some reason decided Simmons is the coolest dude and always wants to know what he’s doing and help with projects (he messes things up a lot, but Simmons enjoys the attention)

-Idaho is a naturally good helper for Doc, they both like assisting with bandages and what-not, and they’re both “list-makers” (they make categories and lists for everything, from important supplies, to favorite movies). Idaho also is a great friend to O’Malley; whenever he speaks up, Idaho instantly plays up the role of “evil assistant” and goes along with the bit (they don’t do anything actually “bad”, they just like. sneak all the ice cream and them blame it on somebody else)

-Grif and Simmons get really into playing word-games with the Triplets, they have endless conversations about nonsense

-Carolina had to try REALLY hard to convince them “No seriously guys, I can relax now!”

-Tex, Carolina, and Church have their own weird little dysfunctional-family thing going on; whenever they get snippy with each other, he tries to be the peace-maker, and it ticks them both off. If they ignore him for too long, he starts bothering them until they finally crack to yell at him (and that means success). Sometimes Carolina and Tex will whisper to each other while glancing at Church and giggling, so he KNOWS they’re talking about HIM, but when he asks they just go “Nothing~”. Carolina is a total enabler when it comes to Church mouthing-off to somebody (she just encourages him to rant more). Tex will throw Church over he shoulder like a sack of potatoes sometimes and just walk away with him. He likes it

-Tex just kind of decided that Locus is going to be her friend, and while he doesn’t understand why she even likes him, he enjoys her company (still thinks he doesn’t “deserve friendship”, but he’s getting better). They like going to events like motorcycle races together

-Whenever Caboose asks a question, North takes the time to explain stuff to him (so does York, but York doesn’t know what the fudge he’s talking about and just makes stuff up. not in a mean-lying-way, he’s just a dink)

-Iowa and Caboose will wander off to look at rocks or whatever, but also just have a whole ADVENTURE (they might have accidentally gone to Narnia at one point)

-Kai and York are united in a “f*ck the law” attitude, and will engage in some “creative vandalism” from time to time (they wreck advertisements all over the place)

-Doc and Maine hung out together for several days before even discussing stuff about O’Malley and the Meta... nobody is entirely sure what was said (which is fine if they want to keep it private), and this seems to have resulted in Doc having absolutely NO fear of Maine (even when other people still get intimidated), and Maine has all these inside-jokes with O’Malley

-Sarge called dibs on Maine, South, and York. He truly feels like they are integral to some kind of grand scheme that makes no sense to anybody else. Maine is fine with it, he likes the Reds. South immediately jumps on the SUCK IT BLUES band-wagon (because guess which side her bro got absorbed into). York hams it up, like woe is me, I am on the opposing side of a feud from my dear friends, knowing full well this does not matter

-Locus is one of the few people who kinda just has default respect for Flowers? It seems as if he genuinely doesn’t notice how weird Flowers is (he does, Locus just likes the way this messes with everybody else). Meanwhile, Flowers is at least nice enough to avoid giving Locus “orders”, and instead invite him to join activities like baking or knitting/crochet

-South scares Simmons to death, she’s everything that terrified him about Carolina times a thousand, but she loves listening to him when he snaps and gets all uppity

-Tex and Connie have their own chill moments together, kind of reconnecting their friendship, and sharing stuff they have in common (they like similar books and what-not)

-North started having a whole control-trip, not intentionally trying to be a jerk exactly, but he doesn’t know how to NOT be the one who takes care of everybody else, and if nobody listens to him, he kinda has a panic attack and becomes insufferable... as a result, Tucker gets into arguments with North, kind of a LOT. They don’t “hate” each other or anything, but North makes a lot of incorrect assumptions about how immature Tucker acts (not fully realizing how capable and clever Tucker can be), so Tucker feels the need to one-up North and take him down a notch. Tucker finally made North see there are different ways to care for people. They eventually are on better terms, and can jokingly argue without it being a whole thing, because North genuinely respects Tucker

-When Maine seems to be getting especially “isolated”, it’s actually Locus who knows how to gently approach him and pull the guy into a different train of thought (both having once felt like they were “just weapons”, and learning how to be people again). Maine returns the favor, but with a different method; when Locus is in a self-destructive and depressed mood, Maine will just pick him up, then go pick up somebody else, like Wash or Caboose or whoever might be right for the moment, and they have a Friendship Adventure (which usually involves watching cartoons)

-Kai gets all the ladies together for a PARTY NIGHT! Sometimes it’s just them staying in, eating their favorite food and watching TV, sometimes it’s going to a club for dancing, sometimes they have an entire action movie adventure that results in a show-down with some bad guys at an abandoned amusement park. You know, fun stuff

-Connie and Wash like going out for friend lunches together, they enjoy a lot of the same kinds of food. They also both dress like dads on vacation to the beach, and will complete the fun with bowling

-York doesn’t get totally DRUNK like he used to, but he’ll get a bit buzzed occasionally, and while he’s up for hanging out with anybody, his favorite person to be around like that is Lopez. The robot might sound “stoic”, but he’s clearly amused by loopy York... who speaks Spanish, and catches all the funny comments Lopez makes (Lopez will also help steer York when they walk around so he doesn’t trip and fall)

-Church personally gives Wyoming a reality-check whenever the guy gets too full of himself, and it’s weirdly not with his usual explosive fury of swears; it will be very quiet and kind of chilling. Wyoming is genuinely unnerved, and tries in vain to win Church over with compliments (Simmons calls him a loser and a suck-up). Doc joins in, being a mean little smart-mouth with Church

-Ohio is the only one who isn’t afraid of Carolina’s hyper competitiveness when it comes to video games, they’re BOTH super headstrong about playing

"Conecting the fusion generator derectly to the power line will increase the range!"

"Puh-lease. Unless you want to implode the moment you try to transport, we'll send the energy through an alternate route so it can be prossesed properly!"

Ratchet and Wheeljack were currently arguing over a new version of groundbridge that would use a fusion generator to enhance performance. However, they couldn't agree on how to encorperate said generator.

Miko had heard enough of the constant bickering, and was finally starting to see why Ratchet disliked her so servearly. "Quiet!" she suddenly shouted, hopping over to the groundbridge power switch, "If you two can't decide, I will!" With that she pulled up the switch and the unfinished teleportation divice powered on. Various cries of "No!" and, "Don't do that!" could be heard from the 'fore arguing 'bots.

The groundbrige started to pull things in, not unlike a blackhole. Miko would have been gone if Wheeljack hadn't grabbed her at the last minute. Then the 'bots started to get pulled in. Just then the rest of Team Prime burst into the room. "Ratchet, what is happening?" Optimus questioned. "Miko turned on the unfinished groundbridge, and the imence power has turned it into a blackhole!" Ratchet informed.

"Well then shut it down!" Fowler shouted, making sure his hold on June was tight. "Can't!" Wheeljack called back, "The power switch is stuck!"

With that, Team Prime was sucked into another demintion.

*Meanwhile in TFA*

"Will you shut your intake about all this Decepticon nonsence?!" Sentinal Prime was at the moment yelling at the purest being in the next thousand solarsystems. Optimus Prime was having none of it. He had to let Jazz and Ultra Magnus know they were driving into a Decepticon trap! He was about to retaliate, when a green-blue portal resembling a spacebridge suddenly appeared next to them. Even stranger, 8 *enormus* bots fell out of it before closing. The two stared in shock.

"State your designations!" Sentinal shouted. The largest one got up with a grone. "Apologies. My desigation is Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots," he said.

Sentinal laughed, "Good joke! Now who are you really?"

"Optimus," Ratchet started, worry in his tone, "I don't think we're on Earth anymore. At least not *our* Earth." The news sunk in to the other Primeverse 'bots.

"Come on Ratch. Of all the- wait a minute. Primus, I think he's right!" Wheeljack added.

"You are disrispecting a commanding officer! I demand to know your true designations now! Or else I'll have you all arested!" Sentinel was fuming. By now everyone had gotten on their pedes, and the Stealhaven was *cramped*. "Hey can we head outside?" Smokescrean asked. "No!" yelled Sentinel.

"Who put the guy with thg he giant chin in charge?" spoke up Miko Nakadia. Sentinal squeeled, "An organic!"

Miko bursted with laughter, and you could see some others trying to hold in their own giggles.

"Perhaps it is best we step outside," sugested Optimus, and slowly but surely, they made their way out of the Stealhaven.

"Now, can I have your designations?" Sentinel more demanded than asked.

"Smokescrean, Elite Guard."

"Bulkhead, Ex Wrecker."

--Bumblebee, Scout.--

"Arcee, warrior."

"Wheeljack, Ex Wreacker."

"Ratchet, Medic."

"Ultra Magnus, SIC of the Autobot army."

That last one got to Sentinal. "Liar!" he shouted, "You're not Ultra Magnus! Ultra Magnus is out on a mission! He's the leader of the Autobots! And he doesn't look like that!"

"Looks like Ratchet was right. It does kinda seem like we're in another world," Arcee added.

"Have any of you noticed," spoke Jack Darby, "We're totatly out in the open." The new information suddenly became clear to the others on Team Prime. There were tons of civilians watching them. "Autobots, our cover has been blown," Optimus said.

"Wait!" called a new voice, "The humans don't fear us! We work with them!" All helms (and heads) turned to the source of the voice. A young looking 'bot with hints at a firetruck alt mode. "You don't need a cover here. But that doesn't matter now, because two of the 'bots from this world are driving into a Decepticon trap!" said the firetruck. "Optimus, enough with this nonsence. Their are no Decepticons of Earth," Sentinel glared at Prime, but he did not notice everyone else glaring at him.

"If this world is anything like our own, there are most deffinetly Decepticons here. My team and I will asist you if need be," Optimus said to the two Animeted 'bots. This brought a small smile to Prime's lip-plates.

"Follow me!" Prime called before transforming and driving off.

Optimus signalled his team to follow suit.

Gonna answer this over here, hope you don’t mind.

Oops it’s gonna be rambling I am so sorry

A lot of my writing winds up being freestyle, and getting something going takes four or five tries to stick the opener, like pulling the cord on an engine to get it to start. I have like three 2k word versions of how I wanted Doing Something to go, and one of them actually has Sanford in Hank’s place and Sanford’s more like a refrigerator than a runaway lawnmower. It wasn’t as fun to write, so I shucked it into the “neat concept, I’ll fuck with it later” bin.

Which is fine, I can have as many half-formed ideas as I want because I have the storage space for it.

From there I kinda write out little scene chunklets that I can rearrange or swap out with eachother, I’ll be thinking about the next scene I wanna do while I’m writing a different chunk, or thinking about an old chunk while writing a new one that I can slot in between that’ll make the overall story more coherent. So like, giving Doc a motive for specifically using Deimos to pilot Hank? I didn’t have one for a really fucking long time, then I was writing I think, like, Deimos’ meltdown and was like “Okay actually Deimos is going to be Doom. You can run Doom on anything.”

Then once I get my chunklets in a row I can go back over and add in more shit, and it makes it really easy to change details. Hank in the restaurant, how did he get to the restaurant? Fuck it. He was holed up in the tower this whole time and it was right next door. I’ll mention Deimos smells something burnt up in that other scene, weeeeee~

I kinda got this whole method from just writing vignettes? HNMT is a pretty obvious example of shoving a bunch of little scenes together to make something longer. I was using the research notes in that to kind of give hard stops so I didn’t need to stitch everything together as much. Because I’m lazy. And being lazy means you come up with fun ways to cut corners like that.

Tis how the first livestreaming video was invented. People didn’t wanna go stand up to see if the coffee was done, so they just hooked up a camera to a network and forced it to stream the video. I think I remember that right, take it with a shaker of salt, I ain’t remember shit good.

I highly recommend just doing a shitload of self indulgent vignettes though, just a bunch of scenes you want to read that don’t have to be connected to each other that you don’t have to do anything with. Eventually you might wind up connecting some of them together and extrapolating on a concept, and you can snowball from there.

Or just make a fun little oneshot, Workday is from a 30k document of what amounts to practicing each character individually in a bunch of scenarios, kind of just getting a feel of how I can have people interact and differentiate them from one another. It also just has a lot of stupid dialogue.

I fucking love writing dialogue. It’s really bad. But also neat when you can figure out how to give characters enough voice to where you don’t get confused about who’s saying what without having to say “he said, they said, x explained” yadda yadda. I use that thing as a reference for how I write each character to kind of gage consistency, and I’m not the best at it but I sure am getting better.

So, yeah. I get distracted really easily and this all sort of helps direct me being distracted into getting more work done than I would’ve if I had to follow a real outline, playing with legos instead of worrying about brick and mortar.

TLDR: Mostly freestyle, then editing in the plot beats that form naturally from that.

i see a lot of speculation on this blog but its kinda hard to see where you're coming from when there's so little out, is there somewhere specific you look for secrets? a lot of the spooky images on the artist's main website are beta designs that will be changed (perfect example is the baphomet image of wally where he has 5 fingers instead of 4 and poppy's neck is still bent down-ward, also we know images with wally's cross cuff is beta and not up to date).

i'm liking your theories btw, this is not me critizing you, i think what you're saying is genuinely interesting but it feels,,, too easy? we know that the story itself will have something to do with the idea of "home", what it means, etc, etc. if you wanna talk more in dms i'd love to chat, im just very confused and feel like something is missing from the source. if you want we can work together to compile evidence about the story and stuff. it might help a ton in laying out the story as it progresses.

no worries! although i will admit i was VERY confused for a second there lol (and quite frankly, a bit wounded that you'd think i'd forget the importance of The Home in the grand scheme of things!)

you do bring up a good point about it being a risky move to cite concept art as evidence, since there's always a chance of Something getting shuffled around or outright scrapped in development. even now, i don't really like looking at WH's concept art from a literal/Plot-Heavy perspective just yet; i tend to look more for recurring visual motifs, possible symbolism, that kinda thing. to help myself out, i have a very basic sorting system when it comes to combing through concept art, which looks something like this:

concept art from around 2018-2019: pertains to a now scrapped version of welcome home. harder to find since it was all on clown's old blog before partycoffin. you likely won't find much here that applies to welcome home as we know it today but it's fun to track those little Evolutionary Changes through it.

concept art from around 2020-2022: home is introduced! the cast lineup is finalized! the Themes begin to take shape! i keep an eye out for Motifs here, but it's important to keep in mind that if there's any era of concept art where shit gets shuffled around the most, it's Probably this one.

concept art from site launch (feb. 14th 2022-onward): the most dependable era. concrete plot details that can be gleaned from concept art alone are still scarce, and to be honest, i don't mind that at all - but the visual design, and any recurring motifs by proxy, seem to be set firmly in place. it's like a chew toy for my brain.

as for your offer - i have plenty of folks in the discord and friends from elsewhere trawling through the site with me, but if you have any findings that haven't been recorded in the observation document or any theories that you'd like to discuss, then yeah i'd be happy to dm!

Ooh, I wanna know about genesis sonic game prototype stuff! Do you have any fun facts you could share about them? I always find that kinda stuff super fun to learn about!

Sonic 2's Chemical Plant boss had an unused sprite if you hit Robotnik when he has a full tank. It's still in the game, unused, and has been there since the earliest prototype we know of.

Sonic 2's scrapped level Cyber City Zone assets were reused or atleast highly inspired Sonic Spinball's level The Machine

(left recently shown of docs, middle converted metropolis to possible pallete, right Spinball's The Machine, all from Sonic Retro forums & wiki)

Also both were made in america at Sega Technical Institute

Knuckles Chaotix (which while technically a 32X game you still need a Genesis for it) has my favourite prototype ever Sonic Clackers/Crackers. With a rom header calling it Sonic Studium, a build date of April 1st, 1994 and a title screen that looks like this

For the uninitiated Knuckles Chaotix has a mechanic where both characters are tethered together, allowing for fun and interesting physics nonsense

I mention that because while the title screen says Crackers it's actually pretty likely it was actually named after Clackers, the toy given the movement gimmicks.

Also i just think the game looks neat and unlike it's final version, Knuckles Chaotix, it runs just on the genesis (albeit poorly lol).

there's more connective tissue between the proto Clackers and final Chaotix but more then i can get into right now.

I started to do the thing I like to do where I write a couple rough sketches of a story I want to find the shape of but not actually write? And then it got too long????

Anyway the gist of it was (tw: consent issues/dub-cob) st:tos triumvirate (kirk/bones/spock)

due to a translation error and some ~scientific~ magic powers, bones gets a literal magical healing cock, simply because I cannot imagine a man less disposed to sexing up his friends on a whim, but who would probably fuck his ENEMY if it saved their life?? kirk purposefully hamming it up/leering to make bones feel more normal, uhura kissing his cheek afterwards and seriously asking him if she can brag about how good he is, scotty absolutely not asking for permission to brag and fully regaling the engineering dept with "doctor's hands are clever things" nonsense, chekov gets a puppy crush and decides bones must be part russian because only a russian could kiss like that, sulu treats it like the medicine it's intended as and takes it upon himself to bodily drag chekov away from the good doc until he gets over himself -

and of course: spock. spock, obviously fatally injured, and the inevitable dub-con inherent in that on BOTH their sides (and on kirk's because kirk is there in the moments before it happens, because he, too, is worried like bones is that spock'll refuse, but he, unlike bones, is not willing to accept that answer, so he forcefully talks them into it, even tho both feel like they're forcing the other - )

and then spock, hunting bones down in the aftermath to apologize, as if he's a burden, as if bones was somehow unwilling to do that and more, as if -

"I am well aware of your propensity to lay all blame at your own feet, doctor, but the idea of you blaming yourself for saving my life, at personal cost to you, is -"

"You cannot be that stupid, Spock, that you think I wouldn't do anything to - "

"Your martyr complex is hardly a secret, doctor. Rest assured that I know what lengths you'll go to save others-"

"To save /you/, Spock. As aggravating as you are, there's nothing I wouldn't do to save /you/, you green-blooded hobgoblin!"

Even the short version of this got too long lmao, anyway unestablished ot3 when kirk walks in like, "oh are we talking about the fact I forced you two to have sex to save spock's life?" and both of these known kirk apologists IMMEDIATELY have to defend him, like, excuse me, we are adults, we make our own choices, it was hardly a hardship, and kirk jumps in with both feet like NOT A HARDSHIP, HUH? BECAUSE IT WASN'T A HARDSHIP TO WATCH, EITHER, ALTHO NEXT TIME YOU TWO WANNA TANGO MAYBE DO IT WITH LESS DYING, SO I CAN ACTUALLY ENJOY IT, and anyway they all have sex, obviously, and the magical healing cock thing DOES fade, but the ship generally agrees that while they're very glad bones is better, and that all moral conundrums re: his healing powers are no longer on the table, it was kinda nice to have the long-running lore of bones being THEE best lover finally confirmed once and for all

Why do I have so much plot in my head for such a ridiculous idea. Why.

Looking back at all the “every version of me” posts I’ve made since I started talking about it on here, and I think it’s kinda funny but also sad that the blogs I followed when I first got into this hellsite are blogs I don’t interact with anymore because I’ve drifted away from Marvel

I mean, I still love the Marvel fandom, but it’s just not my thing anymore, you know? And I’m getting so into DC, and I’m really hoping I don’t have that happen again

But that’s not why I wanted to make this post, I wanted to look back at the original idea of Every Version of Me, back when I was just seeing a bit of batfam stuff in my feed and I was just curious (help I’ve been yanked down the rabbit hole)

The original document, which is what I use, but I basically erased it and rewrote it, bc at the time I really started getting into this fic was like early/mid last year, and I wanted to just have a fresh slate

The original idea/doc was put into words in October of 2022 (wow over a year ago) (no, that’s not my real name, deal with it)

And the first picrew I ever made of Skyler (which I still have) was made on May 11, 2023

The original idea of Skyler was an AFAB transmasc with anxiety, depression, ADHD, possible PTSD, asexual, bi-romantic, and a lot of trust issues

His biggest fear was never being good enough, and that Bruce would realize that Skye wasn’t “perfect” aka good enough, and would toss him aside, like everyone else had done

He had trauma from being raped as a kid multiple times and nobody believing him

I think he had an eating disorder? I’m not sure anymore, it’s been practically forever

He had tried to kill himself before, he’d been shoved into hundreds of foster homes between the ages of 7 and 13, bc almost none of the foster homes lasted more than a week. He still has the pocket knife he stole.

He idolized Red Hood, bc that’s who saved him one night when it was cold or he was getting beat up by bigger and stronger people. I don’t really know how or why, but I know that Red Hood saved Skyler, and now he idolizes him, he wants to be just like him. (Think the “big brother I wanna be just like you” edits)

Skyler never changed his name, because it’s something his parents gave him, and it’s one of the only things he had left of them, besides the languages they taught him when he was itty bitty.

Skyler was (and is) Italian and Russian, and knows how to flip you off in more than 3 languages.

Skyler is one of the blorbos that has lasted the longest, even if they did take a back burner a few times, but they never left.

I love Skyler, and I hope you do too.

I have always had a huge interest in zones despite never having actually seen one and I want to make one so bad but I have literally no idea how to start. What do you put in one? Do they have to be a certain length? Does it have to be writing or can it just be collage/art? Would love any advice I'm stupid, clueless, and dyslexic

Hey!! So what's cool is they can basically be anything you want. That's not a super helpful concrete answer tho so I'll break down some common kinds:

Perzines (personal zines): usually autobiographical, talking about your own experiences/memories/opinions etc

Fan zines: zines of fan work, art, writing etc about existing media. This is how a lot of fan content was spread before the internet

Info/DIY/political zines: examples of these are zines about feminism or combating white supremacy, skill shares on how to mend your own clothes or make soap, or other informational zines like the history of a certain neighborhood or historical event

Art, photo, and poetry zines: a way to publish your art: these can get really ornate and be more non traditional shapes, I have art zines folded Iike accordions, stars, and fortune tellers, but they can be traditional formats as well

There's definitely more but these are some of the most common!

As for do they need to be a certain length? Kinda. The 2 most common zine formats are half page (basically a piece of copy paper folded in half) and 1 page mini zines (1 pice of paper folded into 8 little pages)

If you're making a traditionally book shaped zine, your pages need to be in multiples of 4, even if thats just adding blank end pages, so that when you fold it up it's in the right order.

If you wanna make a zine, decide what size you want and and a topic and go for it! The ones I make are usually very text heavy and require some research so I usually put everything in a google doc first and then lay it out once I have most of it written. I do my layout in the free version of Canva, but if you are more computer savy learning how to use illustrator makes printing easier for sure.

I hope this helped! Plz ask if you have more questions. Basically, get some paper, fold it up to see how it works, and then fill it with whatever makes you excited

31: What's your ideal fic length to write? | What's your ideal fic length to read?

Bestie, I literally cannot answer this. The length of my chapters is all over the goddam place, & I've only ever committed in a serious way to fic one (1) time & that's with my current project(s?). I think that, like, if I am pushed to think about it, just in terms of Longfic-Chapter-Length, I really hit a sweet spot with my early chapters in SOTF where I hovered around 8-12k, & everything after that has been...IDK me literally being insane & not knowing how to shut up because I committed to my formatting. I haven't finished any fic since...I wanna say high school (& even then it was all written out in longhand in spiral notebooks) & I only finished one or two of my innumerable projects. So I guess longfics get there when they get there, final word count be damned. Who TF knows with my shorter stuff, those all exist on vibes & vibes alone, & they're done when The Spirit Of Writing tells me they are. Shorter stuff does tend to top out at 2k (or thereabout), though.

In terms of reading, tbh I've never read a lot of fanfic. IDK, I just never really thought about it because I tend to be very isolated & "I can entertain myself" when it comes to fandom experience. I also sort of read fic like I read books (see: it takes me forever), so you could set me down with something of pretty much any length & I'll eventually get it done. There is no length determination, only if I fuck with the writing style & plot.

46: Do you prefer writing on your phone or on a computer (or something else)? Do you think where you write affects the way you write?

I definitely prefer writing on a computer, my mom was kinda militant about me learning how to type when I was young so I have a really high wpm now & it's just faster. That said, I'm not opposed to writing on my phone. I wrote the vast majority of the currently published chapters of my HOTD fic on my phone because I didn't have a laptop for 3 years, & I'm not going to write "cunt" on a work computer, even if it's during my lunch break. So I'm writing hybrid phone/computer even though I do have one now. I got good enough at writing several thousand word chapters in the app version of google docs with naught but my thumbs that I'll go with "whatever is convenient for the location I'm currently in." Computer is definitely where I'm thriving, though.

50: Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about!

There's only 2 that are currently in the fic, & then there's one planned one, but no one talked about the 2 that were there at all & so I have to just get them out there. Also my Patented Misa Foreshadowing That Makes Me Giggle And Kick My Feet But No One Picks Up On Because My Thought Pattern Cannot Be Reproduced.

Chapter 6 has a minor "right in front of my salad" reference

I named the brothers of Borros Baratheon's wife after Peter and Edmund Pevensie from the Narnia series & gave them the same age gap. I foreshadowed Yorick's dragon by having his personal arms be a black dragon & have him get assigned to play at having one that color when he played with his cousins. I foreshadowed Ella's betrothal/husband by having her wear a dress with roses on it at a tourney, & the favor she gave her dad was yellow roses (the real-world equivalent to the heraldry exclusive gold of House Tyrell). But no one mentions these things. They make me happy, but I want someone to point at it & be like "oh hey!"

I have an upcoming easter egg with Ella's son/first child. I'm naming him Griffith because, sure, actual Griffith from Berserk sucks, but his name fucks & I like Berserk so why shouldn't I co-opt his name? It's mine now. Yoink. Enjoy being a footnote in the list of "media Misa likes that can be referenced in something else"

probably a weird ask to send lol but. are there any of your au interpretations of cats you’d like to see a little playlist for? i’m making a bunch of wc playlists currently and i love your versions of these characters!

That's not weird! I don't usually keep Playlists specifically for characters, but funny enough I actually DO have a WCR Multi Animator Project Playlist. Not that I can draw, but it's fun to imagine, right?

The list is updated semi-regularly and even has a WIP Google Doc guide with it. It's based on a now slightly outdated post I made ages ago, with many of the would-be ideas having made it in, but not all of them. Some are much more detailed and scripted than others! It's just something for me to do when I'm not entirely creatively drained but writing is a bit too much.

Please keep in mind, these aren't done, and you can even see my uh... Notes to myself. I regularly leave little "INSERT" and "KEEP GOING" bits in so I can easily see or locate them again to, well, insert something there or keep going on a part!

I'm currently kinda scripting the Frostpaw and Curlfeather "Drift Away" MAP.

HIHIHI OKAY I'M THE PERSON WHO SUGGESTED PUNCH OUT WII SO I'LL INFODUMP A BIT ABOUT IT REAL FAST SINCE I CAN'T SLEEP!!

So basically, you play as this 17 year old boxer from The Bronx, Little Mac. The basis of the game is you box your way through the WVBA (World Video Boxing Association), going from the Minor circuit (the easiest), to the Major circuit (the hardest), and finally to the World circuit. You box against different people from different places like Germany, France, Russia, Turkey, Canada, Ireland, etc. And what's cool about it, all the characters speak in the language from where they come from (Ex: Soda Popinski speaks Russian). As Little Mac moves through the circuits, he is accompanied by his trusty coach, Doc Louis. Doc Louis will give you tips throughout each match and every intermission. There are some silly little tricks you can do to help get through each match. After you beat the world circuit, you make it to Title Defense, in which each character gets somewhat more difficult. After you beat Sandman in TD, you can actually fight DK. See, the Wii version is a remake of an older game, Mike Tyson's Punch Out; And if you look at the two and the characters, they changed some of the character's names (for a variety of reasons), and their designs (because the older game kinda based them off of stereotypes with no true character😬, but the Wii game changes that and gives them a LOT more characterization). My favorite character is Glass Joe. He is a popular boxer from France, where he is seen as a great boxer AND even has his own boxing school. He is the first boxer you fight and... he's uhm... not the greatest to say the least😭. HE'S SUCH A BOYLOSER I LOVE HIMM!!! He's my bbg. There are gameplays of it you can find on YT, and the Gamegrumps did a playthrough of it; However, they didn't finish Title Defense.
