I can't properly put into words the amount of disgust that I feel seeing someone who looks like she could be my cousin fight for a genocidal occupational force like Israel but I will say this.

If you are Chinese, Korean, Japanese or any one of these Asian ethnicities that the West deem "acceptable" and you align yourselves with western-backed racial supremacy, you are making fools of yourselves. You have fallen prey to the myth of the "model minority" and you are suckers for it.

The premise of racial supremacy is based on exclusivity. And here's a dose of reality - the myth of the "model minority" is nothing but a tactic to placate you. To sow divide in the ranks of people of colour. To artificially manufacture another realm of racial supremacy in minorities so that you're distracted from how we all suffer under colonialism.

Did we all forget about the skyrocketing of sinophobia in the wake of the first COVID outbreak? The transformation of Chinese people into fiends with barbaric eating customs, poor hygiene, and mass conspiracy to infect the world with biological weapons?

For all that Chinese people have been lauded as "prodigies" and "well-mannered workers", the moment our existence was incovenient, were were nothing more than another target. And although Chinese suffering then wasn't close to the scale of suffering that Palestinians now endure, we all received a reminder on what it was like to be in the world's crosshairs.

Now, in 2023, Biden dismisses death tolls as unreliable and remains proudly Zionist even after Netanyahu described the genocide Israel is inflicting upon Palestine as the "struggle between the children of light and the children of darkness, between humanity and the law of the jungle." At the same time, Palestinians are being compared to fleeing rats in a gesture of dehumanisation that mirrors how the Nazis portrayed Jews during the Holocaust.

And let's not think Abigail's Jewishness will save her, not when it's been proven that Israel has administered contraceptives to Ethiopian Jewish immigrants without their consent. Do y'all remember how much of a cornball this man was in the game? He has no shame

He loves it all. The stupid nicknames, the cuddling, the gifts, the giggling, all the adoration, he's just in love

Definitely returns the favor. If you buy him smth, he's buying you smth (let's ignore that debt), you give him a nickname so he gives you one. It goes on and on

All this lovey dovey shit might exhaust some people. Johnny is not some people. 

The nicknames are probably his favorite part. He makes the most atrocious nicknames up because you won't be upset 

Some real dumb shit like Oogy Boogy Sweetie Weetie Cutie Patootie Kissy Face- yeah all that shit is one nickname. Why? Because it's funny to him and you'll laugh

Everyone hates you because it becomes a competition of who can be the most corny. It's tortuous for anyone near you 

Cannot express enough how much this man enjoys the attention you give him. If one day you decided to ignore him as a joke, he'd actually be so sad and notice immediately 

He just adores having a corny lovey dovey partner. The best thing to happen to him. 

Kenshi Takahashi 

He doesn't hate it but he definitely needs a breather sometimes 

Having a lovey dovey partner isn't terrible to him. All the touching and nicknames and being spoiled is definitely cute to him, but being lovey dovey also means you're on him a lot. Kenshi doesn't give me huge extrovert vibes so I think because you're so extreme(?) that there's times when he needs a break 

He thinks it's adorable though. He likes feeling wanted so he likes how outwardly you are with your love 

Idk if he likes all the nicknames though. I can see him easily cringing if you go overboard 

Idk how he'd feel about you spoiling him. He doesn't hate it but he feels like everytime you give him a gift, he has to give you one and he ain't got that shit on him. His own thoughts are running him dry 

When his social battery is recharged I think he'd like how physical and sweet you are

He enjoys how loved you make him feel. He's just not sure how to respond sometimes. I can see you saying something really corny and although he thinks it's cute, his brain doesn't move fast enough and he ends up just staring at you 

He rolls his eyes a lot too so it can give the appearance that he's annoyed by you but it's definitely not that

Like Johnny, he enjoys the attention 

Idk if he necessarily enjoys all the corny things. I don't get a strong feeling from him. Maybe it depends on the day 

Likes the attention and spoiling but all the corny nicknames and shirts and just being a total sap makes him a little uncomfortable at times 

Once again, it depends on the day. Sometimes he's all for it and sometimes he's like “let's calm down for today”

Gets you a matching hat but without all the sharp shit because he doesn't trust you with sharp objects 

He's a mix of Johnny and Kenshi tbh

He refuses to wear those corny matching shirts. You'll have to kill him

I fully believe him and Liu Kang are romantics, therefore he loves it 

He gets flustered easily so tons of affection makes his face go red and all that cute shit 

His brain also short circuits like Kenshi's. He's so bad at pretending he's not flustered

Likes the consistent physical contact 

Spoiling him also makes him short circuit. He's trying to think of how to thank you but all that comes out is “oh!”

Adores you just as much as you adore him 

He likes gift giving. And idk mean just jewelry, I mean “you got me all these gifts so I'm gonna bring you a bunch of produce and hey, maybe we can cook later”

We saw him collecting cabbages like Cabbage Man from ATLA in the beginning of the game, he gotta still have the hook up

Man is so weak in the knees. Kung Lao can yell “STAND UP!” all he wants. That shit is not happening

He's having a great time. Sure he's easily embarrassed but it's not like “omg, you're being weird. Stop”. It's more of a “I love this but I feel like everyone's looking”

You two are super lovey dovey but not as obnoxious as you and Johnny. Johnny is like “you can't out corny me” and Raiden is just tryna vibe and love on you since you love on him

A romantic so all that lovey dovey shit? Heaven to him 

Liu Kang has so much love to give and he's never allowed to share it because his life is ass in every timeline 

So a partner that adores him and shows him how much they adore him? Did the Elder Gods hand craft you for him?

He's honestly a mix of everyone. He wants to love you all the time like Johnny, he loves how much you love him like Kenshi, he loves how much you outwardly adore him like Kung Lao and he's a huge romantic that loves how much time you spend together like Raiden

He's so love deprived so he loves everything you wanna do 

Matching shirts, jewelry, socks, whatever the fuck? Absolutely. 

Spoiling him with random shit? He'll take it all

Telling him how much you love him all the time? Yes.

It started out relatively small, a few little coughs here and there and a little bit of sluggish movements in the morning, but Kenshi just assumed that it was little more than the time of year.

That was until you stopped sleeping; he would hear you get out of the bed in the middle of the night and groan, coughing loudly as you headed downstairs.

He would hear you continue to cough and sniffle until you eventually returned to bed; he would feel the heat radiating off of your body despite the fact that you only ever wore boxers and socks to bed.

You were feverish, your temperature was through the roof. He was naturally worried. If there was one constant about your relationship with Kenshi, it was his constant and consistent worry.

His need to protect you from everything.

He did text Kung Lao about it, asking if Madam Bo had any recipes that he could use to help ease your sickly and ill demeanour.

You did seem mostly yourself, though, and as per usual, you snuggled up with him on the sofa during the dwindling hours of the evening; Kenshi didn't mind, if he got sick he trusted that you would look after him the way he was trying to do for you.

You put on one of your favourite films, watching it in silence as Kenshi slowly felt himself drop off to sleep; he could hear the screams and the squelches from the television, but took no notice.

He got used to the sounds of graphic and grim horror films a long time ago, if he was honest. He never took much of an interest, but you enjoyed them, so he didn't see any point in protesting.

He was sure that you never took any notice of or any interest in the rugby, but you never protested when he listened to the game on the radio.

But when you paused the film, getting up, Kenshi knew that something was wrong, and he frowned as he placed his hand on your forehead.

You were soaked in sweat, and boiling.

"Something about this doesn't feel right," he hummed, shaking his head. "Are you feeling alright?"

You swallowed thickly, leaning into him as you coughed softly. "Just tired... I figured I'd turn the telly off and sleep for a bit..."

That wasn't like you at all. Kenshi knew that, even though you tried to hide it from him, you would stay up all night to watch your films if they were on; he still remembered when he woke up to the noises of 'Train to Busan' at five in the morning because you forgot to turn the volume down.

He still remembered when you and Johnny sat down in the living room and watched all three Human Centipede films in one sitting, completely ignoring Kenshi for hours. You loved those films. It wasn't like you to ever turn them off.

"You're really not feeling well," he hummed softly, shaking his head. "Are you?"

You huffed, patting his chest gently as you shook your head. "I'm alright, I'll live."

"First thing in the morning," Kenshi started, "we're going to the shop, picking up everything on the list Kung Lao gave me, and we're getting you better."

"Kenshi-"

"You never turn off your films," he pointed out, maybe a little more forcefully and harshly than he meant to. "Something's wrong."

You wanted to smile, knowing that he knew you so well, better than anyone else in the world except maybe Johnny.

But that was only because you and Johnny had worked together since the start of his acting career, and you were content with being his agent-slash-best-friend.

You cleared your throat, grumbling as you snuggled up against him and sighed. You did feel like shit, but you didn't want him to worry even though you knew he always would. Kenshi would never stop worrying about you.

"Just relax," you told him gently. "I'll be fine. It's just a bit of a flu. Nothing too bad."

He huffed, not quite wanting to accept your answer but knowing that you could be stubborn when you really wanted to. He moved so that he could feel your head against his chest, your body pressed against his as he held you on top of him, swallowing thickly as he shook his head.

"Get some sleep," he told you, hoping you wouldn't hear the worry in his voice. "When you wake up, I'll make you something to eat."

You nodded against him, sighing heavily. "You always look after me the best, y'know."

🔘 Of course Lord Raiden will bottle feed his baby!! Some teary eyes and a lip quiver, and Raiden will request for someone to send a nice warm milk bottle

⛈️ Even if Kung Lao is feeling super yucky and icky, he still wants to play with Dada

🔘 So Raiden will put his train set on the bed, and him and Kung Lao will roll the trains around until it’s time for another nap

⛈️ Raiden’s actually very worried with how sick Kung Lao is, because little Kung Lao has never been this docile with him

🔘 He’ll take Kung Lao to the medics for a ‘fun trip’, so he can get a sucker and see his favorite nurse!! (one of the few that deals directly with sick or hurt regressors)

⛈️ But honestly he just wants to make sure one of his favorite mortal is okay (it really is just a bad flu, he’ll get over it in a few days)

🔘 However, there is a big joke about ‘Mama Bear Raiden’ for the next few weeks, which both big and little Kung Lao soak up like a sponge in water 😮‍💨

So when Big calls one afternoon and desperately begs for help with wrangling the youngest Theerapanyakul sibling, Khun obliges. He swans into his baby brother’s apartment carrying all the necessary supplies in two thick plastic bags. Peach, one of Big’s newer trainees, is holding a bag of frozen peas to his face on the couch.

“Well that answers my first question,” Khun sighs. He deposits both bags next to Peach and digs through the first one in search of a fever reducer. “Things must be pretty bad if he’s busting out the kung-flu.”

“Excuse me?” Peach wheezes. Khun hands him a lime flavored ice-pop and pats him on the head. 

“The first thing Kim’s brain does when it registers a fever is panic. That means clearing unfamiliar people out of his space. Sorry you got punched.”

“Happens,” Peach shrugs. “At least he didn’t get anywhere important.”

Khun likes this guy’s attitude and level of understanding. He can stay.

“Wonderful! Excellent! Now you just sit here and eat that while I go handle the tiger, alright?”

“As you command, Khun Nu.”

“Wonderful,” Tankhun repeats. He tucks a packet of fever reducers, a rainbow stim cube, a strawberry ice-pop, and several band-aids into the pockets of his cardigan. “Here goes nothing.”

After two long hours of herding, wrangling, pleading, and threatening, Kim has been medicated, hydrated, showered, and tucked beneath a set of clean sheets. Tankhun and Big high-five over the success of their mission – and then Peach enters with a lunch tray as instructed. 

Kim dubiously eyes the selection of udon noodles and chicken nuggets (ordered upon the specific request of Kimhan himself) and reaches a shaky hand forward to lift his bowl of soup. He gulps it down scarily fast while Khun chants, “Slow down! Don’t choke, idiot!”

Then, with tears sparkling at the corners of his eyes, he lifts one singular chicken nugget from the plate and cradles it against his chest. “What have they done to you?”

Tankhun and Big look on in silence as Kim gingerly arranges the nugget on his pillow before lying down and curling up around it. 

“Uhm, N’Kim,” Khun approaches the bed. He’s shocked to find Kim staring forlornly at the lone food item. Regret fills each available space in his expression. “What’s wrong?”

“Porchay!” Kim sobs. He scoops it up and brings it closer. “My poor boyfriend! He’s… He’s trapped like this forever now and I’ll never see him again!” 

Big leaves the room with both hands clamped firmly over his mouth. Smart move, Khun thinks. “What if we called him?”

“He can’t talk.”

“Right. Let me go call my witch friend and see if she knows the cure for nugget transformations, okay?”

“Good!”

Khun stands in the doorway, watching Kim as he listens to Chay’s phone ring.

Chay steps into the room and immediately feels two familiar palms land on his shoulders. “Get down and crawl to the side of the bed, okay? Don’t stand up until I give you the signal.”

“Uhm, okay?” Chay glances toward the bed, where Kim is hysterically murmuring lullabies to a semi-squashed McNugget. “Did his fever get worse?”

“Mhm.”

“Shit.” Chay shakes his head. “Who did he punch?”

“Peach.”

“The new guy?!”

“Yeah, but he was fine with it. Now! Bed!”

“Right, yeah.” Chay drops and scurries to kneel beside the bed. He stays out of view, listening with a knuckle between his teeth as Tankhun works his magic. Literally. 

“Alright, Kim, are you ready to break the curse and see Porchay again?”

“Yeahhhhh,” Kim whines. “I wanna kiss him.”

“Perfect! Because when I count to three, you need to smooch that chicken nugget and break the curse.”

“I can do that.”

“I know you can. Ready?” Kim’s nod shuffles against the pillow and Chay bites back an even larger grin. “One. Two. Three!”

Kim closes his eyes to kiss the nugget and Khun reaches forward, yanking it from his grasp. At the same time, Chay pops up from beside the bed and Kim’s eyes shoot open. Their gazes meet and the feverish singer shouts, “SUNSHINE! IT WORKED!”

“Of course it worked,” Chay slides into bed next to Kim and lets the older man wrap around his legs like a koala. He runs his fingers through his boyfriend’s damp hair, pulling the tiny knots free and making Kim purr deep in his chest, catlike in his contentment. “You always come to my rescue, babe.”

“Hmm, always,” Kim mumbles. He’s nearly asleep already. 

“Thank you, P’Khun,” Chay smiles up at his almost-brother-in-law. “I probably should have called in at school today, anyway. He needs me.”

“You have your own life,” Khun huffs in his favorite dramatic way. “He can take care of himself once and awhile.”

“Sure he can,” Chay acknowledges. “But I prefer doing it myself.”

“Shut up! You two are so adorable it makes me… Ugh, nevermind.”

Chay giggles at Khun’s back as he breezes from the room. 

“So adorable it makes you sick?” 

“Shut up!”

If he hears you sighing and groaning, he'll peek his head in the room and laugh because he thinks you are being overdramatic.

When you start coughing and wheezing and leaking phlegm from nearly every hole in your face he feels bad, and will cringe in sympathy.

If you're so snotty and coughy that you can barely speak or sleep, Johnny gives you his famous cure-all, a whisky mac (whisky mixed with spiced wine).

It won't stop you from being sick, but it will help stop you from caring about it. He advises that you don't mix it with anything like nytol though unless you want to be out of commission for the next 15+ hours.

Raiden

He'll act exasperated that you're sick, but that won't stop him from looking after you.

If it's wintertime (or otherwise cold) then he immediately thinks about how to keep you warm, especially if you're suffering from fever chills. That might mean indoor heating, layering you with blankets, or lighting a fire for you.

If you're well enough to stand/move about, Raiden will encourage you to take a hot bath/shower, the water will help warm you up and the steam will help ease your congestion.

Ultimately Raiden will focus on making sure you are comfortable and rested until you begin to recover.

Fujin

Fujin is the kind of guy who drops EVERYTHING when someone he cares about gets sick.

So you better believe that Fujin is gonna dote on you, which for him manifests in asking as many questions as he can to make sure everything is to your liking.

Are you too hot? Too cold? Are you hungry? Do you have enough pillows? etc etc.

Tries to make you some stew to help ease your symptoms but because Gods don't really eat it doesn't come out quite right.

Thankfully you can't really taste or smell anything so it's basically edible. Fujin is so relieved that you aren't completely disgusted by what he's made.

Kung Lao

Now my boy Lao probably wouldn't make a great nurse but by golly, he is gonna try his darndest to look after you.

He wants to be helpful so desperately but your sickness is also quite gross, so despite his best attempts he will gag a bit while cleaning out any used tissues or sick buckets you have on hand.

If it's something that is highly contagious, like the flu or COVID, he will ignore all safety protocols and still hang out/isolate with you so you aren't lonely.

If your sickness is really bad and he wants to avoid it, he will wear PPE so he can still cuddle with you. Full face mask and gloves, he still wants to snuggle.

Lao isn't the best chef so I hope you like microwavable things and pot noodles cuz that's about all he can manage. He does, however, brew excellent teas.

Liu Kang

Unlike Lao, Kang would make an amazing nurse, he's kind, patient, and attentive, but will be firm about things you might not want to do that would help you recover.

He knows you feel like shit, but he'll still make you get out of bed, brush your teeth/shower, and have a little walk around or do some stretching for exercise.

If you're staying indoors to avoid spreading your sickness, Kang will help keep your mind occupied with things like scrabble or mahjong, so you don't go slowly mad.

When in doubt, Kang may encourage some traditional Chinese medicine treatments for you, which may range from some tai chi practice to taking some gui zhi tang.

The Trump Organization received millions of dollars from foreign governments during his maladministration. That includes the People's Republic of China which Trump blamed for what he calls the "kung flu".

Donald Trump continued to profit from foreign governments while he was US president, with businesses tied to him receiving at least $US7.8 million ($11.6 million) in foreign payments from 20 countries during his four years in the White House, Democratic congressional investigators say. US House of Representatives Oversight Committee Democrats said the payments detailed in the 156-page report are likely a fraction of the foreign payments made to Mr Trump and his family during his 2017-2021 administration. The report discussed four properties, less than 1 per cent of the 558 corporate entities Mr Trump owned either directly or indirectly as president.  Mr Trump's accounting firm did not provide documents regarding at least 80 per cent of Mr Trump's business entities, congressional investigators said. "These countries spent — often lavishly — on apartments and hotel stays at Donald Trump's properties — personally enriching president Trump while he made foreign policy decisions connected to their policy agendas with far-reaching ramifications for the United States," the report said. The countries included China, Saudi Arabia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malaysia and more.

Pride Month and the fight against fascism.  June 5, 2023

         June is Pride Month, a celebration that commemorates “the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York and celebrates the LGBTQ community and the fight for equal rights.” For decades, Pride Month celebrated the annual incremental gains in the liberties and progress toward full personhood of LGBTQ people under the law. Today, Pride Month is marked by renewed urgency to protect the rights of LGBTQ people as extremist legislators and governors seek to turn back the clock on rights that were hard won over the last half-century.

         The assault on LGBTQ rights is being promoted by politicians whose aim is to stigmatize a small population to gain power. At its core, attacking vulnerable populations to gain political power is fascism. Commentators and politicians were initially reluctant to label such efforts as fascist, but the historical parallels are inescapable. Comparing MAGA extremism to its historical antecedent is appropriate and necessary to raise the alarm about the ultimate threat posed by the new American fascism embedded in the MAGA base of the Republican Party.

         Of course, the MAGA extremists who are targeting LGBTQ people are also attempting to suppress the rights of Black and Latino Americans and women. But they are engaged in a stepwise process: Their most ferocious and transparent attacks are currently focused on LGBTQ people, but they intend to target minorities and women next—after they have normalized hate against LGBTQ people. We must stop them.

         Over the weekend, reader Doug S. suggested in the Comments section on Saturday that I “devote a couple of newsletters to the issue of fascism in America . . . which is a huge and growing problem much misunderstood.” Doug’s comment prompted a thoughtful discussion of the issue of fascism in America. He wrote, in part,

Although Hitler is an extreme example of fascism, fascism is about much more. It requires a strong leader, millions of followers (e.g., Brownshirts), an objective of some kind of societal purity, a demonization of groups of people in an objective to advance the power of the leader and his followers. Here are some current examples: Trump and “Mexican rapists;” Asians and “Kung flu,” the “Muslim ban,” DeSantis and LBGTQ people; and Marjorie Greene and white Christian nationalists.

         Reader Jody W. expanded on Doug’s point, noting the early efforts in pre-WWII Germany to discriminate against gay men:

Thom Hartman has been focusing strongly on fascism in his Substack blog (Thom Hartmann | Substack). One feature Hartmann points out that I hadn't given much attention is how fascist leaders find a small subset of the population that can be demonized easily with the right propaganda.

Once they have achieved their objective of eliciting hatred and violence toward that group, they know that their success then allows them to broaden propaganda efforts outward to other larger groups. I think that Hitler focused on gay men.

         Many readers pointed to Heather Cox Richardson’s essay in Letters from an American on May 29, 2023, in which Professor Richardson described a US Army pamphlet distributed in March of 1945. The pamphlet was entitled “Fascism” and was designed to inform and equip US soldiers in the WWII version of the information war. Per Professor Richardson, the pamphlet included the following:

They [fascists] maintain themselves in power by use of force combined with propaganda based on primitive ideas of ‘blood’ and ‘race,’ by skillful manipulation of fear and hate,

If we permit discrimination, prejudice, or hate to rob anyone of his democratic rights, our own freedom and all democracy is threatened.

         The above sentence from the Army pamphlet bears repeating:

If we permit discrimination, prejudice, or hate to rob anyone of his democratic rights, our own freedom and all democracy is threatened.

         Pride Month reminds us that if we “look the other way” as dozens of MAGA-dominated state legislatures discriminate against LGBTQ people, their actions “threaten all democracy.”

         The initial anti-LGBTQ bill in Florida has spawned a dozen imitators. See NPR,  (4/10/22), More than a dozen states propose so-called 'Don't Say Gay' bills. Targeting speech related to LGBTQ people is patently unconstitutional. Indeed, fascism itself is, by definition, contrary to the US Constitution. To the extent that MAGA-fascists use the authority of the state to discriminate against subsets of the US populace based on race, gender, or sexual orientation, such efforts will likely fail. CNN Politics, Tennessee anti-drag show law deemed 'unconstitutional' by Trump-appointed federal judge,

ABC News, Oklahoma agrees to not enforce gender-affirming care ban while temporary order sought; and

Lambda Legal, Advocates to File Lawsuit Against New Law Banning Healthcare for Transgender Youth in Texas.

         But even as courts and litigants seek to stop the tide of legislation targeting LGBTQ people, Ron DeSantis is busy signing new legislation intended to stigmatize people based on their gender identity and sexual orientation. See CNN (5/17/23), DeSantis signs into law restrictions on trans Floridians' access to treatments and bathrooms.

         What can we do to stop the creeping menace of fascism? The most obvious solution is to seize control of the state legislatures and state houses that have become the breeding ground for fascism. We are already hard at work on that task, but we must ensure that our efforts are informed by the underlying threat posed by MAGA legislatures—fascism.

         We must raise the alarm in plain words backed by unassailable facts and an accurate recounting of history. I can hear some readers pleading for restraint, for lowering the temperature, for avoiding ugly words that will cause offense. It is not the word “fascism” that is ugly; it is the underlying hate that is ugly. We will never defeat the hate and animus of fascism if we are too polite or timid to call it by its name.

         Many passed the threshold of acknowledgment long ago, while others are coming to that realization now. For some, January 6th was the turning point; for others, it has been the spate of legislation targeted at LGBTQ people over the last eighteen months. Others may be uncomfortable using the term. Wherever you are on that spectrum, we must agree that the fight to protect the liberties and human dignity of LGBTQ people is important for the defense of democracy itself. It is not “their” fight. It is “our” fight. If MAGA extremists succeed in normalizing hate against LGBTQ people, you may be next on their list.

The Silent Struggles of Asian American Women

Intro

Intersectionality is when two social identities intersect, making unique situations for an individual. Women in America are faced with various difficulties ranging from the wage gap to sexual harassment. Asians in America experience discrimination, stereotyping, etc. Asian American women in this country experience all of these dangers simultaneously. My name is Emily Diamante and this blog post will briefly cover examples in history where Asian women were stereotyped and discriminated against for being both a woman and Asian. 

Starting from the Beginning

In 1875, the Page Act was passed. This act restricted Asian women from immigrating to the U.S for prositutional purposes. This was one of the first instances of heavy stereotyping on Asian women. With the passing of this act, this wrongly profiles Asian women as prostitutes, dehumanizing them to an object. In addition, this act prevented Asian couples from starting families. It is important to note that the fourteenth amendment states, “all persons born or naturalized in the United States”. So due to the Page Act, the exclusion of Asian women in the country prevented these couples from starting a family. This stereotype was further portrayed when it came to the idea of a “military man”. The identity of a military man was just this macho, super masculine guy. So masculine that being called anything related to feminists was considered an insult. The stereotypical Asian woman at that time is the perfect opposite of a military man. Asian women are seen as submissive, seductive, only capable of serving men. 

Covid

With the COVID-19 pandemic, harmful acts of hate towards the Asian community has increased by 339% in some of the largest cities in the U.S. It is clear it is because of people’s fear, scapegoating, and misinformation that caused Asian hate to grow so much in such a short amount of time. It is also no coincidence that when President Donald Trump used phrases such as “Kung- Flu” or “China Virus” that the blame on Asian Americans got even worse. The AAPI have documented about 4,000 instances of hate with Asian women being targeted 2.3 times more than men. Asian American women have stated that they have experienced some of these situations: being called racial slurs, comments about racial stereotypes, being followed via car, accused of being dirty, and being accused of having the “China Virus”. Because of these experiences, it is no doubt that Asian Americans have felt hopeless and frustrated during this pandemic. They are disappointed with the American government for how they are being treated. Asian women fear their treatment so much to go as far as to shop in only Asian stores. 

Atlanta Shooting 

March 16, 2021. Robert Aaron Long attacks a massage parlor and two spas in Atlanta, Georgia. He shoots and kills eight people. All eight victims were Asian women. This tragic, targeted attack was a symbol that highlighted the intersection of racism and sexism. This act of violence represented the ongoing struggles of the objectification, fetishization, and dehumanizing experience of Asian women in America. This attack sheds light on urgent issues that need to be addressed.
