laudna telling pâté to speak quietly. laudna hiding him away, trying to make him small, smaller than he already is. laudna telling pâté to be sad, be SADDER, because someone has died. laudna still talking to herself when she talks to pâté.

Hebrews 4:13 (NIV) - Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.

Note
What is a theme you are excited to explore in Laid Bare?
Discovery is the main one, because it's going to hit on so many different levels.
Peyton is going to start discovering herself as more than just a mom, but as a young, single woman as well. She's spent her whole adult life as a (mostly) single mom and trying to keep her and her daughter above water, so she kind of missed out on the whole "growing up" process in a way. She's never had a real relationship other than her somewhat tumultuous one with Ransom, which is why she's kind of hesitant to dive into anything with Ari.
She's also going to discover later on that Ari is the literally definition of the term "sexual awakening". I can't wait to dive into THAT.

Spread and present yourself to me. Lay yourself bare. Let me devour every curve of flesh you have. Let the feast start with my eyes before my mouth tears you apart.

The No-Fuss Ways to Figuring out Ulla Johnson Fall 2023
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ulla Johnson’s rich and vibrant offering began with a giant winding carpet – made in segments in Morocco – which was set to be disassembled post-show and given a second life in Johnson’s stores. A live soundtrack was provided by Black Belt Eagle Scout, who played her white electric guitar with the Empire State Building in relief behind her.

I think I’ve made myself very clear. No one’s coming forward to stop me. Some of you cared. None of you cared enough. And neither did I. And I’m sorry.

Harrow got so unbelievablely horny dreaming about Gideon's rolled up sleeves exposing her lean, taut muscle, a little dewy with sweat and steam but you know what.... thinking about it. Gideon does not disrobe basically ever, except in private to bathe. A tantalizing glimpse of forearm may legitimately be the most Harrow's imagination has to work with

To me the difference between alastors and voxs character energy is that alastor seems like he has made out with every male he has ever interacted with while vox seems like he needs to make out with every male he has ever interacted with

Thalergy
The opposite of Thanergy (AKA “Death Energy”) in the Locked Tomb series by Tamsyn Muir.
So you say, “ok so it’s just life energy?” to which you are mostly correct. Thalergy is exactly that but what’s interesting about this to me (and soon to you all as well I imagine) is the etymology of thalergy!
The etymology?
The Etymology.
Thanergy as death energy derives its name from Thanatos, the greek god of death (technically the personified spirit of non-violent death but modern perception of the name is usually edgier than that lol). So it would be normal for those unfamiliar with the myriad of divinities within the Hellenistic pantheon to justly assume the ‘thal–’ in ‘thalergy’ comes from an opposite divinity of Thanatos that was a personified spirit of life. Except that doesn’t exist. Reading the first two books I knew that thalergy as a word wasn’t derived from any greek or roman words meaning “life” but I didn’t really dig any deeper on where it did come from because I didn’t think it was overly important. I Was Incorrect.
Because you see, the context for me to really connect the dots had gone over my head up until I had read Nona the Ninth. (I recall some meta posts pointing out that the Themes™ had in fact been present in the previous books just less obvious.)
What Themes? And Who The Fuck Is Thalergy Named For??
Thalassa.
Primordial Goddess Of The Motherfucking SEA!!!!
So yeah! Remember all those posts talking about the importance of all the themes regarding the sea/ocean in the Locked Tomb series? Yeah so here’s more fuel for that lmao
Edit 11/20/2022: also many people have brought up other examples like Thalia (the muse of Festivity whose name also means blooming) as another more direct connection to life and @adurna0 who actually speaks Greek has pointed out that thaleros is in fact a word that means "lively" so even if the Thalassa connection is a thing it is more likely a double meaning than the lone one.

rereading the section of revenge of the sith where sidious is actively recruiting anakin and calling the jedi traitors who are about to attempt a coup to destroy the republic, you almost have to hand it to him, he's so fucking smart about playing anakin. he knows just as well as obi-wan does that anakin only cares about personal loyalty of the people he loves, and doesn't have loyalty to communities, governments, or ideals. so he repeats obi-wan's name again and again, framing him as the ringleader of the jedi rebellion, who lied to anakin personally and didn't trust him, and then he redirects anakin's feeling of personal betrayal to extend to the jedi as a whole. he does the same thing with padmé and the republic. he makes it all seem like a conspiracy of the people anakin loves (and wants to keep) the most, and so the blow of a political betrayal is instead deeply personal. he had been laying the groundwork all book, suggesting an alliance between obi-wan and padmé, even an affair, all to increase anakin's sense of paranoia and loneliness, and it works to alienate and infuriate anakin more effectively than anything else possibly could have, and by directing him to point that rage toward the jedi as a whole, sidious was able to get him to commit atrocities on his behalf. he just played anakin perfectly, and anakin let himself get played all because it confirmed all his worst fears about loss and betrayal, and fanned the flames of his offended pride. sidious knew exactly how to make him furious and terrified, which is just a very dangerous thing for anakin skywalker to be.
