#lok book 1 rewrite

to jumpstart your lok rewrite posting, i have to ask. lmk if this isn't worded well enough but if lok's plot was coherent all throughout, actually explored the lasting effects of colonialism, do you think it would make sense for hiroshi sato to be the sole "big bad villain" of book 1? and how would that tie into red lotus ideology vs white lotus ideology as the main conflict?
yes actually. hiroshi is very much a facet of the white lotus, a symbol of economic growth under capitalism (he created so many jobs!!!) and technological progress and the liberal dream. like according to him he was once a scrappy street urchin like mako and he worked his way up from a factory job to owning his own factories (I don’t remember what he says exactly lol). but like. he literally owns the means of production of like. an entire city that basically exists as a testament to this neoliberal neocolonial vision of progress as both cynical and a given. so in a subtler show, he wouldn’t be funding a terrorist movement, he would simply be the villain because of what he represents. I think hiroshi could easily have functioned metonymically the way ozai does. the akio ohtori of republic city.
I mean in my vision for lok asami is very much more of an anthy figure whose codependent abuse is actually given the space to be acknowledged and handled with the care that something of that gravity deserves. so her role as korra’s love interest (as it foments from the beginning, because a clearly defined telos is always important in serialized television!) would be as her foil as someone who is similarly trapped and restricted and denied agency despite being immensely privileged and socially powerful, and the abuse she experiences at the hands of her father that she cannot fully put a name to would be the central building tension of the season as korra identifies that violence and then, perhaps even if only subconsciously, connects it to her own exploitation. and so through seeing themselves and their own pain and suffering reflected in the other, they hand each other the keys to their own liberation.

The Journey of Wan Premise+Masterpost
Almost 2 years have passed since Wan became the first avatar. In that time, the spirits were guided back home in the spirit world, Wan closed the spirit portals, and the lion turtles retired as guardians of mankind. Since then, humans have been free to roam the earth again without fear of the spirits, but new troubles arise when humans wage war with eachother, hunt hybrid animals, and abuse the elemental powers bestowed upon them. As the first human to have power of all four elements as well as the world on his shoulders, Wan does whatever it takes to restore balance to the world.
Main Cast: Wan, Mula, Raava, OCs
Pairings: OCxOC, Wan/OC
~~~~
4 books/seasons with 15-20 chapters each:
Book One: Light
chapter 1 (under construction)
chapter 2 (completed?)
chapter 3 (TBA)
~~~
Q&A/FAQ:
How long has this project existed?
I started this project 2015-2016, after the release of the "Beginnings" episodes of LOK, which basically started from me creating OCs that existed 10,000 years ago, for no other reason than for the fun of it. I made friends with a shared interest in ATLA/LOK/Beginnings whom also created ocs for Wan's time period and their own takes on the lore behind the spirits and we collaborated with eachother. I had started the first two chapters of book one, that can be found on deviant art and wattpad (plus a few written prompts that featured ocs and wan's relationship with Raava) but with the newer updates, will also be posted here and archive of our own. After writing and publishing the second chapter, I began to focus on other priorities in my life, as I was taking classes in junior college, dealt with deaths in the family, and got caught up in other fandoms.
I never lost interest in this project, ocs and concepts that had yet to be fully fleshed out, however, they were always in the back of my mind and I would occasionally draw my Wan/oc ship, but not much further. Now with the release of the Kyoshi and Yangchen novels, comics and shows/movie announcements, I started to feel more compelled to revisit and commit to seeing this project through, even if friends I once collaborated with moved on or lost interest. I am taking this as an opportunity to redesign ocs or do some rewrites of old prompts and make any needed adjustments to the plot/characters/etc.
Are you doing this project alone?
As it stands, it appears so, but this is on me due to my own inactivity.
How many books are there going to be?
It has always been four: Light, Renewal, War, Legacy
Each with a varying number of chapters, but ideally the goal is 20 max. per book/"season"
Are you open to collaborate/form a writing team?
It is a possibility. As of now, I would like to reconnect with former peers and see if they would like to revisit this story or not, and seek consent on use of their ocs before moving any further.
Can I submit fanart to this blog?
Tumblr media
Fanart is absolutely encouraged and welcome, once I have some art of my own and OC designs up of course. If you like what you see, then you are most welcome to draw and submit fanart.
Where can I find the story?
You can find it on:
deviant art: the-journey-of-wan and wonderpepperboops
wattpad: zhervey06
archive of our own: thejourneyofwan1006 (currently has short story prompts)
You can also find my inspiration board on Pinterest!
~
Thank you for your time!

"Katara and A/ang had literally 3 children together in the canon. If Zutara happens, that's cheating"
A short answer to that:
Tumblr media
A sassy answer to that:
Bold of you assume that K/ataang ever happened in my imagination.
An honest answer:
It's all about what you think, really. There are a few fanfictions about them cheating or them actually getting divorced from their recent partners and start dating.
But those are just a few. Most of the fan interpretations, artworks or fanfiction begin from Book 3 or 2. There are some Book 1 fanfics where Zuko goes through a big amount of change. And that's absolutely valid and cool.
And that's the beauty of a fanon ship. There's no right or wrong timeline when it comes to this. There is no canon "they got together" moment. But that actually makes us more creative regards to rewriting everything.
Plus, K/ataang's relationship in the original series didn't run so long to make big changes. There's only one kiss. ONE KISS to indicate that they got together. And that's it. So, a few bricks to get rid from and start building a house with different design.
There are many ways you can put Zutara in between stories that happens in the canon or after war. It is fan's preference.
For LoK, have you ever heard of multiverse? Then, that's how I interpret everything that happens in there. Everything that happens in there is what would happen if Katara chose A/ang.
Those tag crossers... stop harassing us. We do understand that your ship is canon, but

If you could rewrite legend of korra and make it your own(or just in general better) how would you do it? The villains would stay the same and korra and crew are the same(personalities you can definitely tweak a bit. I would definitely not have any love triangles and make korra and asami happen in the beginning) how would you do it with your ships being canon as well?
Okay so I’ve never actually watched LOK. I’ve heard A LOT about it through watching countless video essays on Youtube and reading Tumblr posts about it. I know the who, the what and the how, I just haven’t wanted to watch it because, even though it looks cinematically gorgeous, the story was written by Bry/ke and there’s a LOT of it, worldbuilding and storywise, that I just can’t bare to watch.
So here goes. This got long. Enjoy!
1) Remove the Decopunk world.
A Decopunk world is a world where technology is 1920s-ish, but very advanced. We have cars, tanks, radio, bobs and faux bobs, cloche hats, short skirts, nice suits, etc. I adore Decopunk. The 1920s are one of my favourite eras. An optimistic way of looking at the world, partying, illegal alcohol, the remnants of the Great War... I love it. I really do. But it doesn’t work in the pre-established world of Avatar. It brings elements that are far too imperialistic and colonial in nature (which prompted the comics to be imperialistic and colonial in nature, with the Northern and Southern Water Tribe, you can find many posts about that), which came along hand in hand with the Industrial Revolution, as this article puts it so well. Please read it, it’s awesome.
Why did they feel they had to denature Avatar’s world? They already had everything they could possibly want.
The Fire Nation could be more Steampunk, which is a little less advanced than Decopunk (First Industrial Revolution vs Second Industrial Revolution) because there were elements of Steampunk in the Fire Nation Army (such as the tanks, the navy and the dirigibles). But it could be for them only. It could show us how Zuko transformed the Fire Nation from a war industry to a steam-powered country. This could be the new way to channel firebending (and please, no more “anyone can do lightning bending”, you don’t need lightning bending to get electricity and it makes  Zuko, Iroh, Ozai and Azula weak in the show!).
We’ve seen waterbending used in clever ways in the Northern Water Tribe. How could Katara’s waterbending and Sokka’s engineering influence the Southern Water Tribe to make them use waterbending more? Canals, waterfalls, waterways, etc.? In new and different ways? Could the Southern Water Tribe use hydroelectricity, but in a clean, sustainable way? Why does the Southern Water Tribe port look so... mundane?
The Earth Kingdom already had a working train system in Ba Sing Se. And the postal system in Omashu. Toph could have taught earthbenders how to follow the Badgermoles way and dug tunnels throughout a nation in peace. Then boom. Subways. But instead of machines pushing the people along, you can have benders do it. Instead of messenger hawks, the postal system could run through the entire kingdom instead of just Omashu and be much more efficient. The Earth Kingdom could be praised for its fast postal system that could, maybe, work as telegrams.
I’ll come back to the Air Nomads.
Those are just examples from the top of my head. I don’t mean “never allow technology to “””progress””” (I use that word veeeeery loosely because it has huge imperialistic undertones). I mean instead of trashing the fun parts of bending to make way for Decopunk technology that doesn’t need bending, work with it! Get creative! This worldbuilding feels... too easy. When Avatar: The Last Airbender was praised for its worldbuilding.
I adore Decopunk. I enjoy it far more than Dieselpunk and it’s much less known that Steampunk. But it has no place in the Avatar world.
2) That doesn’t mean “remove Republic City”.
First of all, it should honestly have a better name. It’s kind of like naming a city “Democracy City”. Which is way too on the nose. Harmony City sounds better, and that’s the first thing that came to mind. Anyway.
I really like the idea of a city being built in the spirit of Iroh and the White Lotus. To allow the Four Nations to live together in harmony in one city. But why is Republic City literally New York City with an “““Asian””” flair? What is up with that? I know New York is the MOST Decopunk city ever (you can’t encounter anything Decopunk without seeing New York, with its Art Deco buildings, the Harlem Renaissance, the Prohibition, etc.). But they do NOTHING with it! They just take New York, change some names, add some Asian flair, and call it a day.
I don’t want 1920s New York for Republic City. I want Zootopia.
What happens in a city where all the Four Nations are represented? How does Water, Earth, Fire and Air work together? Big cities tend to be quartered in neighborhoods, so each neighborhood could be a smaller version of their nation. We could have a Northern Water Tribe next to an Earth Kingdom next to... you know what I mean? Each neighborhood could be a small-scale introduction to the nation for Korra first, then you can send her to that nation afterwards!
Which leads us to this.
3) Have Korra follow a traditional Avatar’s journey.
I really don’t know why they decided that Korra would learn three elements before the age of sixteen (when that’s the age Avatars usually START their journeys) and then only have her learn Airbending during the entire show. Wasn’t the structure of each Book being about Aang learning one element at a time a good structure? Why go out of their way to NOT do that? Why was it the White Lotus’ prerogative to train the Avatar in the first place, too?
So let’s have Korra know waterbending first (and show Katara teaching her, please!), then she can learn Earth, Fire and Air. By going to the Earth Kingdom, to the Fire Nation, and to the Air Temples. This could help develop each nation and show us how they have grown through the years. And it could lead Korra and the audience to figure out that there’s not only Aang who has had children to represent the Air Nomads, but there were other Air Nomads who survived the genocide and we can actually see the Air Nomads as a thriving culture.
So about Republic City. As I said, we could keep it. But now that Korra is going on a traditional Avatar journey, you could have, say, one episode at the beginning and one episode at the end of each season taking place in Republic City. To show us how each Nation’s neighborhood works and as an introduction to Korra before she actually takes the plunge to travel to that nation.
Please! Build upon the Avatar world at large more! Come on!
4) Stop it with the love triangles.
Many have talked about the Mako, Korra, Bolin and Asami love triangles. I’ve read once that they don’t exactly feel like friends, they’re only colleagues who share the fact they all dated Korra at one point. Which is sad. Knowing that the Gaang is so beloved because they’re such GOOD FRIENDS first!
So work to build strong, healthy friendships first, THEN start thinking about romance if you have to. And please, if you want a ship to be endgame, don’t have it so you have to confirm it on Twitter.
Don’t.
Oh! And also. Bolin and Eska’s relationship was unhealthy as all hell and treated as “funny” and “comic relief” because a woman was being emotionally abusive to a man. That’s terrible. Please don’t do that.
5) Don’t let Katara fall to the side like she did.
Many, MANY before me have talked about how Katara got the short end of the stick in LOK. Where’s her statue? Where’s her recognition as the Greatest Waterbender in the World? Why is she day in and day out in the healing hut, when she said “I don’t want to heal, I want to FIGHT”? Does she even have a waterbending school? Or is that completely fanon? Why does she allow Aang to take one of their children on life-changing field trips while leaving their other kids behind? Aren’t they also Air Nomads by birth??
It’s okay to worship the old Gaang because, well, we all love them! I do love Aang, even if I give him a hard time a lot, but I love the character. I just don’t like the way Book 3 Aang was written. But some characters shouldn’t have everything while others have nothing. Aang is LITERALLY THE STATUE OF LIBERTY. But where was Katara’s statue? And also, what happened to Suki?? What happened to Mai or Ty Lee, too?? Or even Sokka?? He died some time ago and... that’s it??
Which brings us to this.
6) Zutara, Taang, Sukka and Mailee.
I’ve seen that picture of Toph, Aang, Sokka and Katara being edited with Zuko and Katara next to each other, Toph and Aang next to each other, and a (suddenly alive!) Suki next to Sokka. I think that’s so good! It feels so healthy!
Not all relationships that started when people were kids work out. Sokka and Suki seem the strongest relationship at the end of the show and they’re probably the only ones I could see working out in the end. Sokka could become the Southern Water Tribe Chief and Suki could become his Queen when she’s retired from the Kyoshi Warriors.
Katara and Aang would be lifelong friends, of course they would be, but I don’t really see them lasting. Aang was twelve when they started dating. They’d date a few years, then they’d decide they want other things. That’s a good thing to show kids!
I’ve written many metas about Zutara, but Ambassador then Fire Lady Katara would show a changing world, where the Fire Nation, now no longer a war industry but a Steampunk country, is moving forward, with Zuko literally marrying a woman the Fire Nation tried to wipe out. They would be equals and leave an equal mark upon the world. Together.
Toph and Aang would be amazing together. They’d be a great team, working in the Earth Kindom, helping rebuild the old Temples when the Air Nomads came out of hiding, and bringing peace around the world. I don’t think they’d be a conventional relationship. They’d do their own thing for a while, find each other for a while, work together on some projects, then continue doing their own thing. Aang being the Avatar who travels the world and Toph teaching metalbenders and working with the King in Ba Sing Se and Bumi in Omashu and wherever she’s needed. I think Toph would be much more fulfilled than what we’ve seen of elderly Katara. She doesn’t have Katara’s abandonment issues (I’ve talked about them here) and she’s more independent, I believe.
I know I haven’t talked about them much yet, but I want Mai and Ty Lee together in the end. Badass ladies challenging their respective stereotypes and create a new world for themselves. Mai could find herself away from the Fire Nation court (I don’t know what she’d do, but circuses love people who throw knives, don’t they? She could be a circus performer for a while), and I think Ty Lee, in this version, could work at the circus and with Aang to rebuild the Air Nomads. I love the idea of Ty Lee being a descendant of the Air Nomads.
All of them should be shown creating Zootopia-like Republic City. Because of course they should be! They’re the Gaang!
So yeah, that’s how I would see the world of Avatar grow beyond the borders of the original show! :)

You’re doing a LoK rewrite, correct? Would be really interested in hearing how you plan on fixing Suyin’s character and the Lin-Suyin conflict because……. oh boy. Man there’s a lot to unpack there. This is what happens when we don’t let Toph just raise her fucking kids for the sake of pushing a stupid as hell narrative about working women and single motherhood.
I am indeed!
In... you know, the way I'm doing most of my big potential projects, in that I have a folder with some documents that have plot notes and... some day I may actually get full, finished fics out of them (h2o AU is in there, as is my voltron!atla fusion AU, and uhhhh my book 3 atla rewrite, and a few other things), so... but I will say that the docs I have for my LoK rewrite so far amount to roughly 4.2k words of just Plot and Character Notes, which may some day turn into words of Story, hopefully.
ANYWAY, POINT IS: yes, this exists, and I have Many Many Thoughts.
Including how the Gaang kids would shake out! Cause I know I'm doing Zutara, and maybe Tokka???? Although I don't wanna just leave Suki out either... maybe a throuple??? Or Sukka having an amicable breakup before Sokka and Toph get together--maybe she already has Lin by then, and Sokka helps support her through the grief of losing Kanto???? Idk honestly, I haven't actually figured any of that out definitively yet except that Aang was perfectly happy to settle down with an Air Acolyte from one of the rebuilt temples because he grew up and out of his crush on Katara pretty easily once he hit puberty and matured a bit.
UHHH none of which is actually an answer to your question, because it's a valid one! Which is why I've been sitting on this a while (10 days I'm so sorry) bc I haven't made any solid decisions but I've been letting it percolate around my head a bit. And the more I think about it, the more I really like the Sukka -> Tokka idea (and I don't want to kill off Suki since the kids all deserve their awesome Kyoshi warrior auntie in their lives, and also I want a Sukka kid to be besties with Iara [zuko and katara's youngest] so maybe she gets with someone else after she and Sokka split? I could be talked into Ty Lee/Suki actually, the more I think about it....), but obviously having a stable father figure and a Toph who is... not what LoK made her out to be will dramatically change the Beifong family dynamic.
That said, I think I actually have a solution. (I'm so sorry for what I'm about to do.) Toph has Lin with Kanto--and he passes away when Lin is two or three, which is why she has very few memories of her father. (Although none of this 'she doesn't even know his name until she's 50+ cause Toph didn't tell her daughters about their fathers' bullshit.) Sokka is there for her through it all (all of the gaang is, of course, but you know that it sometimes just hits different when it's someone you're also starting to fall in love with, especially when there are older and much more deeply buried feelings there that are now resurfacing, because at least in my version Toph was deeply in love with Sokka when they were teenagers, but he was in love with Suki and she also loved Suki so she didn't want to mess up anything about their family or the group dynamics by making her feelings anyone else's problem), they fall in love, get married and have Suyin.
(Sokka may jokingly refer to it as a shotgun wedding, but the truth is he wanted to propose well before he found out she was pregnant, his attempts just kept getting messed up in increasingly comedic fashion.)
Throughout all of this, Republic City has been established, Sokka is Chancellor, Toph is something of a defacto police chief--mostly because, at the time, no one else was willing to volunteer, and she jokingly offered to whip the law enforcement, but unfortunately everyone else at the meeting took her seriously. However, she is also the founder of the probending league, and basically her feelings about law enforcement are complicated and she actively discouraged her kids from joining the force which is part of why Lin did. How else do you have a teen rebel phase with a parent like Toph? (Which, in this instance, means tough and firm but fair, with a 'you break it, it's up to you to fix it' attitude and very little desire to actually control her daughters and their behavior.)
Ah, but here's the rub.
Suyin is ten years old when Sokka dies, and Lin is sixteen. I'm not sure how he's killed--maybe by Yakone, to tie it into my plans for Amon and book 1. (Note that I'm not sure when the Yakone bloodbending trial happened in canon, but it doesn't matter. The timeline I'm gonna build will be completely different post-comet, and I'll eventually write it all down so that I can keep things straight.) Which would incidentally provide excellent means of having Katara have a very personal stake in the Amon conflict, and perhaps color the fight between him and Iara, but I'm getting off track. And I think Sokka being killed by Yakone, and Toph being unable to protect or save him, or deliver her own brand of justice to avenge him (because Aang is there to stop her and.... shit probably got ugly, I suspect she didn't talk to Aang for at least twenty years after Sokka's death--and this isn't to say I think Toph is particularly violent or murderous, but in that moment, she absolutely wanted to kill the man with her bare hands, and however much she may have regretted it afterwards, she took a very long time to forgive Aang for stopping her in the first place), is what results in Toph stepping down as police chief.
She didn't withdraw from her daughters or fuck off into the swamp or anything (words cannot express how much I hate that part of her canon history), but she did grieve for a very long time. Lin, meanwhile, felt like it was up to her to keep her family together, while also feeling a desperate need to... prove herself, I think. And because her mother was so adamant that she not join the police force, that's exactly what she does. I think Lin completely misread Toph's intentions, too, and believed that the discouragement was because her mother didn't think she had what it takes, when in reality I think Toph was scared of Lin losing herself in the job like she herself had begun to, and eventually coming up on something she couldn't change or fix and making the same mistakes she had.
(I think Toph and Lin have communication issues largely because they are both headstrong and willful, but where Toph thought she was giving her daughters the room they would need to make their own way, what Lin desperately craved was direction and she felt like that was something her mother simply couldn't understand.)
Suyin, on the other hand, fell in with a bad crowd like in canon. I think that what she desperately needed was attention, similar to Lin craving direction, and Toph was trying so hard not to be her own parents that she went a little too far in the other direction and Suyin began to feel like it didn't matter what she did, her mom wouldn't care, or get angry, or discipline her, or anything. Lin and Suyin butted heads a lot growing up, too, especially after Sokka's death, because Lin tried to rein in her sister's behavior and this was met with resistance and derision because Suyin felt like Lin was trying to be both mom and dad and she was neither but her big sister would never admit to being just as lost as she was and it made her furious.
So when Suyin is sixteen, and Lin is twenty-two and new to the force, The Big Rift happens. Lin catches Suyin and her gang, tries to apprehend her, gets a scar on her face in the ensuing conflict. But instead of abusing her power and sending her problem child off to her mother before fucking off to the swamp to avoid the consequences of her actions, Toph tries to actually fix things. Suyin cools her heels in prison for a while, because she was paralyzed by guilt at the time when she hurt her sister (a few inches lower and she could have slit her throat), and was still there when Lin's backup arrived.
Uhhhhhhhhhhh..... I'm so sorry I rambled for so long, BUT THE UPSHOT IS: I think Suyin learned a bit about culpability and taking responsibility for her own actions, Toph realized that her daughters had different needs than she did at their age (and I think a lot of the problem was that grief clouded her own ability to connect with her daughters, and in trying to not be her own parents she lost sight of how to be the parent her own daughters needed), and Lin, I think, had to realize that she had never fully processed the loss of not one but two fathers and had turned to her job in order to avoid actually confronting the grief that had overshadowed her childhood.
However, she did not forgive Suyin, at least not right away--and she wasn't forced or expected to. Suyin understood that she crossed a serious line, she took her lumps and did her time, and no one shamed Lin for her anger. I think, as a result, she had less reason to hold onto that bitterness, and perhaps by the time the story actually begins, she and Suyin are on much better terms, though I haven't worked it out exactly yet.
UHHH yeah I went on for days lmao. All of this is subject to change, too, depending on the needs of the story whenever I get around to actually writing it all down, BUT these are my initial thoughts, at least.

Fan Fic Tag Game 2020
Thank you @ailec-12 for tagging me!
Ao3 Name: Lucy_Luna
Fandoms: I was active in the HP, Spider-Verse, and ATLA/LoK fandoms this year.
1. Fic that was the hardest to write/you spent the most time on: The fic I’ve spent the most time on is Long Way From Home, the eighth story in my Severus has a little sister AU series. It’s not really been difficult to write per se, just time-consuming. There’s just been so much I’ve had to write to tell the story.
2. Fic you spent the least time on/easiest to write: I think it’s no surprise the stories I’ve spent the least time on this year are the one-shots I’ve written. Like My Ancestors Behind Me, Names, The Sky is Wrecked and Full of Rotting Clouds. However, I would say my easiest to write has been To Make The Bridge. Once @ailec-12 gave me the idea for it, the story just really came together in no time. It’s essentially all written except for an epilogue I’m still deciding on.
3. Longest fic: The longest fic I have worked on this year is They Didn’t Know We Were Seeds. I haven’t really written a lot for it this year though. I would say the longest story I’ve put the most work into this year is Long Way From Home.
4. Shortest fic: My Ancestors Behind Me. It’s 836 words.
5. Fic you were nervous to post: I really don’t get nervous before posting. However, I think the story I felt most uncertain about before posting was The Prince's Return. I wasn’t sure what kind of audience there would be for it. However, now that I’ve posted, there does seem to be a small amount of intrigued readers, so I’m happy!
6. How do you choose your titles: I really don’t have a set way of doing it. Like, I guess I just try to find something that sort of tells what the story is about. For example, with my Spider-Verse stuff, there’s one story called An Unexpected Visitor. Surprise surprise, during the story someone unexpected visits. Lots of the stories written in that fandom have uncreative titles like that.
7. Fave fic you read: I think I’ll pick a one-shot and a multi-chapter. I discovered and really enjoyed pretend you don't have one by TheTartWitch. It’s an AU nonlinear one-shot about Severus Snape from the start of his time at Hogwarts until I wanna say shortly before Harry becomes a student. My favorite multi-chapter is Salvage by MuffinLace. It’s an atla AU where Zuko ends up on Hakoda’s ship and ends up basically being adopted by him. I absolutely loved and am loving seeing Zuko become his kid and a part of the crew.
8. Fave fic you wrote: That’s hard. I don’t think I could say I have an all-time fav. I liked writing everything, but To Make The Bridge was especially enjoyable. It’s been a really relaxing story to put together actually.
9. Fave comment: This one from @ailec-12:
“AHHH, the feelings of this chapter! Finally, Sirius realises that Severus's odd behaviour is a consequence of the abuse he suffers (suffered) at home. I like that we have the same headcanons regarding how Sirius reacted when arguing with his parents. I think it fits him a lot that he felt better for "earning" his punishments without giving up on doing something to fight them.
Snape had never taken anything from him or James or anyone else lying down. Why would he do the same with his parents? What made them so different? Just because they were supposedly authority figures he let them belittle and hurt him for no good reason? That didn't sound right. Sometimes, even with the professors, Severus would row with them over detentions and lost points.
Ohhh, but this quote. I, too, think that the reason why Severus never backed down from a fight at Hogwarts is to regain some control. Whether it was fighting the Marauders even outnumbered or confronting professors, he was convincing himself he was not a coward, he could start some fights and win them. As always, this is my headcanon, since we hardly have any information about day-to-day affairs in the Marauders' Era. It's so fun to try and guess, though! Especially when you see some of your guesses reflected in a fic.
Also, Sirius realising that he's behaved somewhat similarly to his own parents with Severus and, right away, feeling crushed by guilt is everything I needed to read today. His apology is another big step to improve their relationship further. I love reading character development and I wonder how sixteen-year-old Severus would react to it —whether he would still be willing to accept that apology or would firmly believe it's all a trap.
The scene with the chocolate frog card was adorable and just the cherry on top Sirius's apology needed. It also reminded me I'd sorta forgotten about them in my fic, hahaha. I'll have to introduce them as a tribute to your story!
He'd have to find a way to make the friendship he made with this boy-Snape stick and pull him over to the right side of things when they were the same age.
Yesssss. Now, I can't stop picturing the Marauders (plus Lily) introducing Severus to Remus's parents. So freaking adorable.
And that cliffhanger after all the wonderful feelings!!! I can't wait to keep reading!”
Without it, To Make The Bridge would not exist. And as I said before, it’s been a lot of fun writing it. So this is my fav comment this year :)
10. Fic you want to rewrite/expand on: I won’t, but I guess if there’s any story I’d rewrite ever it’s They Didn’t Know We Were Seeds. It’s a hundred chapters. I think I could definitely go back and combine a lot of chapters and practically halve the length as well as just improve what’s there to be more fleshed out. As for what I could definitely expand on, it’d be my Severus has a little sister AU series. I already have plans for a story after Long Way From Home, but that story has already got me thinking about even more stories for the series.
11. Share a bit of your WIP or share a story idea that you’re planning: Ah so many choices. I’ve been writing a little bit here and there for all of my WIPs lately. Here’s a little something from what will be the second chapter of The Prince's Return:
“I can’t say I know what happens after this for you, but it seems to me whatever negotiations Jinora and Tenzin have with the spirit world on your behalf will end well and everything will be put right again,” he concluded, smiling in reassurance at the nonplussed boy.
Zuko stepped back and out of his grip. “Nothing ever goes that smoothly for me,” he declared like a threat — or, maybe, a warning.
Iroh showed his palms to the boy. “I don’t know what to say to that,” he said. His grandfather had never seemed that unlucky to him. In fact, Iroh had thought he was always very lucky. Against all odds, he’d changed the world for the better.
12. What was your goal for your fics this year? Did you meet it?: I didn’t have any hard goals really. I wanted to finish a few things, which I did. However, I also started a few things, so, I’m not really writing less. Which is actually okay. That was also something I hoped I would do this year. Write more than I didn’t.
13. What is your goal for your fics next year?: Finish Long Way From Home, To Make The Bridge, and The Prince's Return.
14. Highlight of your fandom year: The new season of The Umbrella Academy? That was fun and I liked checking out the new fanfics that came out after it too. Also, The Haunting of Bly Manor was fun to binge around Halloween.
15. Highlight of your personal year: I finished a couple of traditionally published books, as well as a cross-stitch and am halfway done with another.

Interesting. In your vision, would it have fit more if Mako had been Bolin's agent instead of his teammate? An agent who just so happened to be crazy good at fire bending himself? Bolin could soak up the spotlight, Mako would work behind the scenes on his behalf, just as later he would do the same for Korra. I like your thoughts on Mako being autistic, but I still feel like he needs to bring something unique. Maybe he's the team's spy or organizer?
okay so reiterate for the thousandth time, when i talk about "rewriting" lok to make it good, i'm not suggesting tweaks to the mechanics of the plot to "improve" it, but rather to tease out the preexisting implications of the narrative to make it as compelling as it has the potential to be. when i say that mako could better function to critique the patriarchal neoliberal system that necessitates familial order and exploitation of the marginalized/underclasses to operate, i'm not saying that his position in the show would necessarily need to change, but that his role already suggests these critiques, and that the writers simply lacked the insight to explore their own implications properly. just as when i say that bolin could better function to critique the neocolonial implications of republic city through his relationship to his earthbending as a mixed child, or that the implications of asami's abusive upbringing should have been teased out in a meaningful way, i am not suggesting that the structural elements of their characters be changed, but rather that those elements that are already established simply be explored properly.
mako being a pro-athlete in book 1 actually makes a lot of sense, because unlike bolin, who enjoys the attention such a profession brings (again, could that be tied to his formative trauma of being dismissed and ostracized by society due to his poverty and orphanhood? perhaps!!!!!), mako allows himself to be physically and financially exploited for the possibility of relative stability. before getting this gig, he was homeless, and so allowing himself to be exploited and put his body at risk for the chance to live under a roof (the gym where he works) for the first time since early childhood is his primary motivation for continuing to allow his own exploitation. obviously there are secondary factors, like the fact that he gets to bond with his brother doing something that bolin enjoys, the fact that he's being appreciated for his skillset by beautiful, powerful women (again how many times do i have to say that mako is innocent for fumbling korra and asami like i'm sorry but you would all fumble them too), the fact that he's been reintegrated into a more acceptable social form (by which i mean, no longer doing the books for a street gang). but we see that he doesn't actually make enough money in this career to support himself, that he's being financially exploited as well as physically (we even see him take a second job doing factory labor even more exploitative than the first), so the perks are largely the relative stability (of a nonetheless highly exploitative job) compared to his prior life experiences.
this is an interesting tension! the fact that mako feels like it makes more sense to choose asami over korra due to her wealth (as if korra isn't also immensely materially privileged, which mako even points out to her) is also interesting! book 1 does establish these tensions in mako's character, but never actually goes anywhere with it (hint: the issue rhymes with "shmapitalism"), which is the actual problem. he's not "boring" because his character is weak, but because the actually fascinating implications the writers establish with his character kept being negated by their own poor writing. if the structural critiques being implied throughout lok weren't constantly being veiled by a revolving door of wacky yet forgettable side characters and confusing ideological implications muddling our understanding of its own thesis, the show had the potential to be really good. the animation and music is gorgeous, the fight scenes are beautifully choreographed, the protagonist is deeply lovable, and there are enough compelling aspects to the show buried beneath the rubble of its own failures that teasing them out is genuinely worth exploring. mako, as an ostensible primary character whose role nonetheless largely feels like filler despite being highly compelling on paper, is one such example. so no, i would not change his character, i would simply give him the necessary room to shine.

Republic city ended up being one of the blandest settlements in avatar, a town withouth a personality, and with a people withouth a culture. If you were rewriting season 1 of korra, what sort of culture would you have given its people, and what changes would you have made to make the city itself feel alive(compared to how ba sing sei, or the northern water captital very much feel like they have their own personalites).
I like what was implied by Republic City in its earliest promotional material, so I’d go with something like a mix of 1930′s Shanghai and Chicago and New York.
As opposed to the fairly clean, modern look of the thing, I’d like a wild, disorganized mix of cultures and buildings and materials in play. It shouldn’t look like a planned city; it should be something that sprang up haphazardly and only over the last decade or two has even really started to really think of itself as a unified city. Roads vary wildly in width and construction material, and aren’t laid out in a grid. A brand new skyscraper is right next to a 50-year-old graffiti-covered Water Tribe pub. The people have been there for enough generations to intermarry and forget their old cultures, but they’re also just arrived after fleeing jailtime back in the old country and need to find a job right now.
There’s also kinds of “Little” neighborhoods that not only evoke the various three nations, but individual areas within them (Little Omashu, Little Whatever That Island Where Aang Had The Dance Party, etc). There should also be a ‘downtown’ section where everybody mixes. That’s where the Probending arena should be. There should be casinos and dance clubs and underground boxing arenas and streets where kids race cars while the cops try to stop them and gilded opera houses and lots of other stuff.
See, the main thing that I think should define Republic City is that it’s the city of the world- it has a little bit of everything in it. I don’t want it to be the shining utopia that Aang and Zuko built; I want it to be the experiment that wound up mutating and growing beyond their wildest hopes and it was all they could do to keep it from collapsing in on itself. It should be More. More decadent, more corrupt, more crime-ridden, more colorful, more compassionate, more enthusiastic, more fun, more dangerous. You think you’re tough because you survived in Ba Sing Se’s lower ring? Ha! They just have poverty and dark alleyways where you’ll be robbed at knifepoint; the Dai Li keep things quiet, there. In Republic City, you could be beaten to death for walking into the wrong neighborhood and the poor people eat the candle nubs they steal from their millionaire employers. But in Republic City, you could be begging in the street one morning and an eccentric wealthy banker will buy you a house because he remembers begging when he was a kid and worked his way up so that he can help people.
LoK went with the idea that RC had lost some of its spirituality, but dropped that subplot pretty quickly, and I don’t think it’s really worth trying to recover if we get to do what we want with the city. (It’s more relevant to Book Spirit, anyway, and that really only exists because canon Republic City is boring.) Republic City should need Korra because even its elected officials can’t keep control of it, and Korra’s unexpected strength should be that she’s more than willing to jump into whatever culture or trouble is in front of her- while her challenge is that she needs to balance those instincts against her duty as the Avatar and the need to keep things from getting too out of control. In that way, the city is a mirror for her; fully pacifying it would ruin what’s great about it, but complete chaos is just going to lead to pain and suffering.
Individual adventures should focus on individual aspects of the city. The organized crime stuff should have gotten a focus, perhaps with Korra cleaning it out of the Probending industry. I like the idea of using street racing to involve Asami and give her a chance to work with Korra. Korra trying to operate in the gilded upper class of the city should have been a recurring subplot with ups and downs. The council should have been shown to be blatantly corrupt, to Tenzin and Korra’s combined frustration, and they need Chief Lin Beifong’s help to strongarm a judge into doing something about it. I also like seeing riots growing in the city over the Equalist movement, with some neighborhoods coming out to meet Equalist protesters with sticks and violence. Ooh, and maybe Korra can get caught up in union drama, with the lightningbenders wanting to unionize and the electric company hiring Fantasy-Asian-Pinkertons to rough the ‘zappers’ up!
In this way, Republic City can be a bit of a metaphor for the increasingly connected world as technology advances, and a kind of proving ground for Korra. If she can step in and help when Little South Pole and Little Caldera are having a race war, she can bring her Avatar Wisdom (TM) to diplomatic negotiations between the Water Tribes and the Fire Nation.
Obviously, though, I’m not describing something that would quietly sit in the background while Korra deals with the Equalists. Frankly, I think too much time was spent on that plot for the anti-climactic way it resolved, so the Book Air I’m envisioning is lots of little Republic City adventures, with the Equalists as a running subplot, before it explodes into citywide riots (rather than the Equalists bombing the city and a majority of the citizens howling for the genocide of the Air Nomads, yeesh) that Korra needs to bring balance to using her knowledge of the people. I don’t care about Amon’s backstory, but I care about how the Bricklayers’ Union is reacting to the Equalist movement.
Oh, and Mako and Bolin are our window into all of this. They know every single street, building, neighborhood, and major figure by heart. They’re friends with criminals and cops. They’re Probenders and bet their winnings on illegal boxing matches. Bolin has an ex-gilfriend on every block of the city. Mako has been banned from every dance hall in the city.
They’re full-blooded Republic City boys.

The Future of Me.
*tap tap* Is this on?
Hello and welcome to another Dirty Kuvira Apologist(TM) direct! Forgive me for being me, I'm just updating in a (hopefully) brief way, sharing where I'm at with my fandom stuff to anyone who's interested. I've been more inconsistent than I'd like to be, not that I desire to be inconsistent. Where to start!
1. ROTE's ending fucking sucks.
This is probably known but I need to admit it for my mental health. My optimism has only hurt me when it comes to trying to rationalize Ruins' ending, because there is no rationalizing that which wasn't rationalized in the first place, rationally. I can and will rant about this topic when I have the internet to do so with, but I attested all throughout Ruins' publication that it was doing just fine as a Kuvira comeback story, and heck I still do! ...Except for the ending. That terrible horrible embarrassing confusing mess of an ending. It's so hard to explain, gosh it's such a damn mess. Basically, Kuvira got a happy ending but it's hard to be happy about it when you realize how it gets there. Whether you look at is as abuse or incompetency (the latter can lead to the former tbh), Ruins' ending tries to make Kuvira's defiance out to be a flaw, eeeeven though it's the only reason that Team Avatar is saved and Guan is defeated. For her to be forced to say she is 100% guilty on all fronts of her life is proven by Ruins itself to be utterly, painfully falsified. Ruins' ending belongs to a different fucking book, and even then I don't think it should've gotten past the beta-reader stage. Kuvira (after forfeiting the Empire) is doing good and is nowhere near as dangerous as ROTE suddenly decided she was. Also: does Bryke is toxic assholes? Who can say. At this rate it certainly won't be them. No I'm not salty I'm more accurately sour and bitter as all Hell. But!! Here's what's sweet...!!
2. Life From The Ashes.
Like I said in one of my recentish posts...Fanon vs. Canon. Fiction is formless and sometimes even the original author doesn't know what exactly they were doing. If you don't like a certain detail in a story, you just follow Joker's random but applicable advice from Batman: Arkham City: "You can ignore it. Just, delete it!"
This is all a very roundabout way of saying I'm writing a fucking alternate ending for Ruins of the Empire ya'll. And considering my first actual fanfic was a 120,000 word fifth season for LOK, this should be as easy as taking candy from a prepubescent child. (In fact, rewriting Ruins would be a perfect segway into rewriting that first fanfic, so I'm kinda glad about that.) Cuz here's the thing! Ruins' ending didn't just corrupt Kuvira's closure, but it also made the new govenor plot peeter out in a very unsatisfying way! Just "yeah do whatever you want guys, work it out I guess." Like wtf? If Kuvira's ending had been clean, I would've been able to overlook the main plot getting essentially dropped, but no, both were smothered. So, in the spirit of restoration, why not combine them?
I know, I know, it's a bit of a longshot, and I already said this once in a theory/prediction a few months ago, but Toph DID already register a spot for a Miss Beifong to become governor, so why let that go to waste? ;) That'll be the candy-stealing part to figure out. Not to mention why the FRICK would you include Korra and Kuvira back-to-back on the cover when that never actually happened in Part 3??? Not even metaphorically!! I'll have to recitify that aspect as well. If you've seen uh ANY of my posts here, you should be painfully aware that I am outrageously fond of the idea of "the K girls" becoming friends. I'll be reserved about it I promise! This ending will be a beginning is all! If you catch my (platonic) drift. I aim to make everything overall not only more human and understanding for Kuvira, but a realistic 50/50 "one step at a time" vibe in general as well.
Soooo yeah. I got plans, ya'll. Take heart. Bryke may have given Kuvira life but they don't have the authority in how she gets to live it. The fans do. It may not happen for a little while yet, but I will most certainly brief those interested in my ideas for my alternate ending in the meantime. And if you want spoilers for my original ending extended thoughts just imagine me with a headache cussing out Bryke lol.
In other news, been playing Yoshi's Island lately. Adorable ass game it is.

LoK Book 1 rewrite ideas? 1/?
Book Air? sure why not.
Avatar Korra
Only a master of one element and just ok at best at two others.
Best at firebending. Ok at earthbending. Needs work with waterbending. Can’t airbend.
Very socially awkward but really confident and energetic. Tendency to get frustrated easily. Gets crushes really easily and doesn’t who what to do with em.
Has never actually interacted with people her own age. The closest she’s gotten is the airbender kids.
Has a lot of technical knowledge about things but little on practicals. Has never paid for anything in her life and doesn’t really get money.
Over the course of the book improves her waterbending and starts to learn airbending
Naga
Polar bear x wolf instead of polar bear x dog. Now Korra has a terrifying werewolf to ride into battle.
More personalty and story presence?
A literal wild animal. She only just tolerates people other than Korra. Others can ride in an emergency or if Korra brings them on. Slowly grows to like the rest of team avatar and view them as pack.
Does not like to be separated from Korra. Surprisingly and terrifyingly flexible and stealthy. Is a pursuit predator capable of running faster than most cars in this setting. Strong enough to carry the whole crew.
Can waterbend b/c we need more bending capable animals in this setting. Listen a fucking giant werewolf covered in ice armor chasing you with the intent to maul.
Mako and Bolin (and Pabu)
Orphaned due to crime. Lived on the street for a few years. Then inducted into the Triple Threats. Then adopted by Toza and the owner of the golden palace thing where the pro-bending stuff takes place (will make up a person). Pabu still stolen from a pet store.
More Toza. In general. A source of wisdom for Mako and Bolin. Helped them improve their bending. (Toza is a waterbender here)
-Probending style is boxing-like with influences from all 4 major bending elements. (However, the air style is from non-Air Nomad airbenders). Benders following the older more traditional styles dunk on it all the time.
-Mako’s firebending and Bolin’s earthbending have stronger probending style waterbending influences and street fighting anything goes than anything else.
Mako and Bolin play for the house’s pro-bending team. (I wanna change the name to something dragon related). They also act as teachers for junior pro-bending teams.
Toza used to be on the team but is kinda old and achy. Best to leave the actual matches to the lads.
Pabu can firebend b/c we need more firebending animals damnit.
Mako and Bolin are in a serious need of a third. Preferably either waterbender or airbender. Korra whop thinks probending is a lot cooler than the stuff the White Lotus was teaching her and who thinks Mako is cute and wants in. And thus joins the team.
Mako has no interest in Korra and at no point returns any romantic affection towards her and very clearly declares his non-interest. Bolin is interested in Korra but quickly loses interest due to her disinterest.  Everybody makes friends.
Mako isn’t really interested in romance but would not pass up someone willing to drop non-crime money on him and his family. Yes, a golddigger.
Asami Sato
Is an Equalist (not the same as canon, here a group created by the Red Lotus) and has no prejudice against the average bender. Is specifically a chi blocker.
Absolutely does not like the gangs.
A-ok with dropping money on a pretty dude with a decent personality to get people off her back about things. Also possibly trying to recruit Mako and Bolin and Korra to the Equalists (which has benders in the movement)?
Is a communist (TM). A point that her dad disagrees with. Is trying to unionize her father’s workers and improve their wages.
Isn’t actually wearing makeup other than a bit of powder. The rest is makeup tattoos.
Winds up on the opposite side from her dad when the Equalists split into two fractions. The pro-equality side and the anti-bender side.
Can drive/fly just about anything mechanical. Attempts to make wings for Naga.

My rewrite of LoK: Book 1(Episodes 1 & 2)
@awesomechocolatesauce
So, I’m just gonna say, I like Legend of Korra. It wasn’t as grand as Last Airbender, and that’s fine! They’re two different ways to go about the universe, and that’s okay. The being said, there are a lot of things in LoK that don’t quite hit the mark as TLA did. So, for that, I’m going to go through what I would do differently for the series, Book by Book.Let’s start with Book 1!
Now, there’s actually not a whole lot I’d change about Book 1, as it’s actually my favorite of the series. I liked Republic City, I liked the story, and thought it was a good intro for “Korra.” However, there are some things I would change.
Episode 1: First, I would keep everything relatively the same in the beginning. We meet Korra, she knows 3/4 of the elements, we meet Tenzin, he tries to guide her towards spiritual enlightenment to help her master Air, she wants to go to Republic City but can’t, sneaks on board a ship, arrives, fights some thugs, meets Lin Bei-Fong, Korra’s able to stay in RC, has the press conference, and we meet Amon, finishing the episode.
However, there is one underlying story for Korra, and that’s how she can hope to be as great, if not better, than Aang. After all, this 112 year-old boy did end a war that lasted 100 years, brought the 4 Nations together, and led everyone to a brighter future. Korra’s a capable fighter, sure, but her inability to master Air, or the spiritual side of Bending, greatly hinders her.
Episode 2: Korra reads about the Pro-Bending matches in the paper, and desires to go and see one herself. Tenzin, of course, disagrees, telling her it’s a mockery of Bending, all flash no substance. Later, Korra fails at both meditation and the spinning fan training, argues with Tenzin once again about wanting to see a Pro-Bending match, sneaks into the Pro-Bending arena, and then meets Bolin! Now, here’s where we start to change a few things.
1. Bolin: Oh Bolin, poor, poor Bolin. I feel for him, I really do. He’s a character that just SCREAMS comic-relief. Which isn’t bad, mind you, but... I felt like he could’ve been more. The great thing about Sokka was that, even though he was comic-relief, he wasn’t the relief 100% of the time. He was smart, he was obnoxious, he was a brilliant strategist, he was a capable fighter without any bending powers, he was so many things! Bolin... I can’t think of anything about him other than he’s funny, and Mako’s brother. Which is why I would change his arc. He can still be comic-relief, sure, but make him have a purpose other than that. That’s why, in this version, Pro-Bending isn’t 3-on-3. Instead, it’s a classic 1-on-1, similar to boxing or MMA, or even the wrestling-style fight they had in “The Blind Bandit” in A:TLA. Bolin is a young up-and-comer, an underdog. He has his fans, but nowhere near enough to become a household name.
After witnessing her first live Pro-Bending match, and Bolin’s scraped-by victory, Korra offers to train Bolin in exchange for learning a few tricks of her own, and shows him some Fire-Bending moves he could probably use to better fit the agile side of Pro-Bending, sort of like how Iroh taught Zuko lightning.
The next day, after failing to pass through the spinning fan training Tenzin gives her a second time, and burning it down, Korra and he argue. Tenzin angrily asks what’s wrong with her, and Korra responds by saying there’s nothing wrong with her. She tries and tries to understand Air-Bending, but it doesn’t sink in, and maybe the reason is because he’s a terrible teacher.
Tenzin gets furious and says no matter how many times he tries to be patient, it’s clear the only thing she responds to is force, so he forces her to stay on Air Temple Island until her training is complete. Korra vehemently refuses, and says maybe she doesn’t need Air-Bending! Tenzin says, “That’s ludicrous, if all you care about is fighting, than you’re nothing more than a child throwing a temper-tantrum. Actually, wait, Aang was a child, but even he was doing better than you!” This causes Korra to leave, ignoring Tenzin’s call back.
At the Pro-Bending arena, she meets up with Bolin, preparing for a match. They do a little training to get ready, and we even get a little character development on Bolin wanting to be equal to his brother. “When people talk about me, it’s mostly as “Mako’s brother,” which honestly, kinda hurts. I love Mako, don’t get me wrong! But just being “Mako’s brother” isn’t good enough. That’s why I went to Pro-Bending, to win the tournament and make a name for myself, and show Republic City I’m something more... and a little training from Avatar Korra doesn’t hurt.”
Bolin’s match is exciting, but nerve-racking. His opponent is tough, being a fellow Earth-Bender, but also rather vicious with his moves. Bolin tries his best to dodge and attack, but ends up losing Round 1, and doesn’t last long in Round 2. It’s in Round 3, where his opponent deliberately sends an Earth disk to his right arm, possibly breaking it. Bolin’s obviously in pain, and the Water-healers try their best, but it doesn’t look like he’s capable of continuing. This, at first, shatters Bolin, and he begs them to keep him in, saying he has to do this, even if it’s with one arm. When asked if he’s sure to compete, Bolin slowly makes his way up to his feet, broken arm and all, and says yes.
The final round is a nail-biter, but something seems different. The fans in the arena are cheering... for Bolin! With this new-found confidence, Bolin musters up a unique brand of offence, thanks to Korra, blending Earth and Fire-Bending moves that actually give him the win, and a spot in the Tournament! The fans go crazy!
Korra is elated, and goes down to the arena to celebrate. Bolin takes this time to thank everybody who cheered for him, but most of all, he wants to thank Korra, the Avatar, for her patience and training. The crowd cheers for both of them.
When they get back to the locker room, Korra starts healing Bolin’s arm, thanking Master Katara. Bolin than takes the time to properly thank Korra for showing him the Fire-Bending techniques, saying they really came in handy in the last round. Korra’s grateful, saying he did great out there, but Bolin still feels like he can’t live up to Mako. “Ever since we lost our parents, Mako’s been the one trying to find justice, to find the Fire-Bender that killed them and put him in prison. I admire that part of my brother, but the more I hear and read about Mako cracking down cases, putting away bad guys, and seeing him in the spotlight, I can’t help but feel left behind. I mean, I’m a Pro-Bending rookie. I know I can’t make it as a detective, but I believe I can at least bring a smile to the people of Republic City.” Korra tells him, “You shouldn’t compare your success to Mako’s. You has to make your own, and you can do that by winning the Championship Tournament, and no matter what, your parents would’ve been proud of you.” They have a bonding moment, and Korra leaves.
Later that night, Korra returns to Air Temple Island, where the spinning fans are being rebuilt. Tenzin is there, and Korra takes this time to apologize. She realizes she was impatient, and frustrated at herself, and took it out on him. Tenzin also apologizes, in trying to teach her patience, he lost his. No hard feelings between them, and if she’d like, they can go and see a Pro-Bending match together soon, maybe see her new student? Korra asks what he means, and Tenzin tells her he heard Bolin’s speech on the radio.
Finally, the spinning fans are complete, and Korra offers to give it one more shot.
She succeeds, ending Episode 2.
(It might not be much, but I hope it’s, at least, interesting. I was going to add episode 3 on here, but that part ended up being pretty long XD So that’s for another time)

Hey dumb question but what ships (if any) will be canon in your LOK rewrite?
Oh, hey! It’s not a dumb question at all, don’t worry!
I have a few ideas for potential relationship dynamics down the road, which I probably won’t know exactly what’ll be ‘endgame’ for most of the Krew until I get there and figure out how their character arcs are gonna go, which will likely be a big part in determining what relationships happen. And I’m open to letting myself explore potential dynamics that might not last, but again it depends on the characters. (Team Avatar will be slightly expanded, with Korra, Mako, Bolin and Asami joined by Jinora (slightly aged up--she’s 15 at the start to Korra’s 17), and a nonbender OC I’m actually quite fond of already (named Kasumi--yes, the Krew is mostly girls, no I’m not apologizing for that, yes there will be queer relationships).
The one thing I know I’m aiming for from the start is Makorra--it’s not gonna look anything like it did on the show, I’m still salty and bitter over how badly Mako was shafted in the narrative, and how the love triangle drama was handled, and pretty much everything about the way their relationship fell apart. It’s gonna be a much slower burn, no love triangle (just from the few character drabbles I’ve done to get into their heads and try to work out their dynamic as Team Avatar, Asami likes Kasumi and Bolin more anyway; potential ot3? perhaps, i’m certainly open to it, and Bolin deserves the love), definitely still the potential for messy and complicated because they are still teenagers and that shit is hard to navigate even without the problems they’re going to be dealing with, but I don’t think ‘messy and complicated’ automatically needs to equal ‘character assassination’, so.
Incidentally, I’m gonna be doing a short prologue story to cover the years before the start of book 1, showing Korra revealed as the avatar, and then her Water, Earth, and Firebending training, which will also dabble a bit in romance, showing Korra’s first love (an earthbender girl she trains alongside). She’s still bi, and I’m absolutely not gonna balk at showing it.

kiba3sixxes replied to your post: I want to vomit anytime someone adores the...
Do you think that the bs that nickelodeon was pulling couldve affected the writing and the show, cuz that literally is a big reason why u see fluctuating quality from a studio and a group that were under the stress of not even finishing the show. I feel the show had more errors than the previous one, but it is more bittersweet because they were being shit on the whole time. Not tryina convince cuz for real i ont care either way, i aint against nor for korrasami, buh yea
The only crap that Nick pulled was taking LoK off the air mid Book 3 (right before the Earth Queen was murdered on screen) and sticking it online. LoK most definitely deserved that. Nick gave Bryke every chance and they screwed it up. They had the last season pretty much already done long before that and nothing that happened as Book 3 was airing really affected that.
It’s all Bryke’s fault the show ended up being so bad to the point that even Nick was embarrassed to air it. Nick gave them four seasons, FAR more than much better shows get, and they had a huge budget for most of it. The only sacrifice that had to be made was a single Bottle Episode in Book 4 that was still horrendous due to the forced retcons and revision Bryke tried to write into the previous seasons.
The show had started really getting a lot of criticism, it was taken off the air, and even Bryke knew that if they didn’t do something that people would forever hate LoK. So they did a quick rewrite of the last couple minutes (which has evidence of being redone) to try to vaguely put in Korrasami. Not blatantly though because they wanted to play it safe in case it backfired. It was only afterwards that they made their stupid post declaring anyone who didn’t like it a homophobe (even gay and bi people who didn’t like it).
LoK is a bad show. It’s been crap since Book 1 and just got worse and worse with each season. It’s a blight on the franchise and pretty much killed the Avatar franchise.
