When a youtuber you've never liked and always seemed super creepy, arrogant, and self-centered finally gets a chance to self-immolate in an extremely public fashion over something that could have been so easily solved if they had even a shred of self awareness or empathy:

whenever another victim chooses to share their story when the perpetrator is currently already under social media scrutiny assholes are always like "hmm convenient timing to come out with your story" like yeah actually its a lot easier to speak out against someone when their bad behavior has already been exposed vs when their public opinion is at an all time high. who would have thought.

I'm just gonna say it. Linus Media Group is just another shitty company owned by another shitty rich white guy. Maybe Linus is "nicer once you get to know him" or some other bullshit like that, but everything that has happened and has been happening with them is down right sad.
No one should ever be dismissed or told off or belittled or shamed for coming forward about assault in the workplace, hell anywhere, and Madison deserved much better when coming forward to higher-ups.
If LMG responds to Madison's allegations the same way they've been responding to all the inaccurate videos callouts and the whole Billet Labs controversy, then Terren should consider taking a long hard look at who he employes while he gets situated as CEO
On related topics, first my opinions about the "mandatory meeting" video from
this link (credit u/Nitazene-King-002 on Reddit. It was originally posted 6 months ago around when Madison left, however the comments on the original post are upsetting).
This is the most corporate bullshit response Linus could've given. I've heard some of these exact phrases a dozen times working for Big Corporate™ before.
The fact that barely anyone knew about an internal anonymous reporting feature is highly concerning as that implies no one told them either purposely or accidentally. And either way is shady.
James's "joke", while maybe funny to some of a certain inner circle, was very clearly poorly timed and disgusting given the circumstances of the meeting itself.
Second, my opinion about the Billet Labs waterblock prototype scandal.
In LTT's video addressing the data inaccuracies and "how the company will move forward from this"
youtube
(credit: Linus Tech Tips on YouTube)
They say that they simply misplaced and mislabeled the waterblock and auctioned it off at the LTX convention, and, after finding out that it was supposed to be sent back to Billet Labs, handled refunding the auction in a very unprofessional way.
Third, my opinions on the inaccurate graphs and lazy post production fact checking.
While LMG is certainly not the biggest tech company trying to give people data on products, they most certainly have the time, money, and effort to fact check everything in their videos, despite what Linus has said on both the LTT forums and the WAN show. While they do address and focus on this topic in the above YouTube video, it is once again filled with corporate copypasta phrases and empty feeling promises as they try to calm everyone down. The video feels half assed and like most of them aren't taking it seriously as they insert inside jokes to the script. (but that is just my opinion)
Fourth, my opinions on Madison's allegations.
A link to Madison's thread
Tumblr media
(credit: @suuuoppp on Twitter. It's a long read and heartbreaking, but worth it if you still believe LMG is a good company)
explaining everything that happened to her while working for LMG, and exposing higher ups for how they dismissed and belittled her for feeling attacked by other coworkers.
In my opinion this thread alone should be enough to tell people that something is wrong at LMG. She did not deserve anything that was mentioned there, whoever dismissed her cries for help should be fired for putting an employee's mental health in danger.
I believe Madison without a doubt, the behavior of some of her coworkers is completely unacceptable.
All in all, I expected better from LMG. I feel bad for Terren for having to deal with this right as he joins, but perhaps he's going to be part of the problem later.
I hope some of the smaller teams in LMG like TechLinked/GameLinked and Mac Address come out ok. Maybe Riley takes the linked writers and an editor to make his own tech news channel, or Horst can do the same with Mac Address.
And I genuinely hope the best for Madison. She was a wonderful part of any video she was in and never deserved anything that wronged her during her time there.
(Small explanations for certain parts:
Remember that these are opinions about facts, while I do literally state that Linus "is another shitty rich white guy", that is my opinion. I've never met him nor anyone who I'm hating on in this post.
It is entirely possible that Madison is lying, but knowing what it's like to be a woman in the corporate tech industry. Right now I believe her 100%.
I am aware of and have seen Gamers Nexus's video calling out LMG about the inaccurate graphs and lazy fixes and the Billet scandal. This post is essentially in tandem and agreeing with their video, while also adding Madison's allegation.
And for those confused as to why James's joke "Are you gonna dance on that table, or just stand on it?" is bad. That line is a reference to someone performing in a place like a strip club, and the way it was said was (in my opinion) satire on the way people in a club might say it in a demeaning way to a performer. I'm not sure who he said it to or why he said it in the first place, but closing a meeting about discussing assault or harassment in the workplace with that line is very disgusting.)
And of course I don't know everything, I'm just putting my opinions on the Internet™. If I've missed anything you know about you can reply/reblog/send an ask and I'll edit/add it on. Same for if I've gotten anything wrong.
#tl;dr I think Linus Media Group sucks right now.
Love,
Brie

TL;DW - Linus Media Group was hacked yesterday morning at 3AM via a hijacked session token that was yoinked by malware introduced into their system inside of a phishing PDF that was sent to one of their editors by a bad actor pretending to be a legitimate vendor.
This is why you always verify where your e-mails are coming from, never open attachments without scanning them first, never trust e-mails you didn’t expect to get, and always be suspicious of activity that you didn’t expect.

I recently re-read all of Widdershins, and I'm super happy to say that not only do I enjoy it more than other comics I read circa 2013-2015, but I appreciate it much more now that I did back then, and it's just as good now today! Apparently it's ending?!?! Which is personally kinda insane and crazy to me, and exciting too!! It's been going on for so long and I'm so excited to see it wrap up (I became a patron just so I wouldn't ahve to wait for each episode >:) )
I've been reading more actual webcomics and less webtoons (I went on a rant about them recently in discord I might share to here because I have THOUGHTS. Not even about the company but the medium) and I'm really enjoying all of them a significant amount!! (Especially Pia and the Little Tiny Things (same author as GGAR!)).

I missed the fine details of the Linus Tech Tips implosion back when it happened, because I was starting a new job and dealing with workplace bullshit of my own (fortunately nothing quite so serious as what happened here).
But I'm nothing if not a little slut for other people's drama, so I watched Austin Green's 2 hour discussion of the LTT car going off a cliff.
youtube
Being 40 and not interested in Call of Duty, I am no longer always shopping for new overpriced hardware and so was never a huge Linus fan. Some of the little side channels were interesting enough background noise. Filled with bad data and lazy tests, apparently.
Like, you had one job, dude. And it wasn't to turn into a daily content farm with an accuracy rate rivaling what you would have gotten if you'd just had AI do it. You chucklehead.
I don't mean to be trite. This guy is a man-baby piece-of-shit, and ruined how many people's lives and livelihoods because he thought he was Steve Jobs or something? And Steve Jobs was also a huge asshole with emotional problems who treated people like necessary evils. But at least the company he worked for had a barebones functional corporate structure to smooth over all the internal fallout from his shenanigans.
It isn't like Linus didn't have the money to pay qualified people to handle his chaos. If he wanted to personally step back and do his dumb podcast - which he obviously did, or he wouldn't have hired 120 people to churn out bad videos in the first place - why didn't he turn management over to people who could just quietly run things for him? Instead he let whatever managers he had seemingly hired from the darkest recesses of Twitter yell at and grope whomever they wanted, so then he had to personally whine and threaten people to deal with the consequences.
Like...that's MORE work, not less, you weiner. And it immediately puts all your brand deals and corporate relationships in trouble, because real companies run by grown-ups aren't going to want to be associated with you and your egg carton of incel turds. I don't understand the math. Except that he just didn't give a single fuck so long as someone was handing him money, and he never figured it out beyond that.
Which is believable. I mean, who is he? Just some YouTuber who got big. That doesn't immediately qualify you to be good at anything besides whatever batch of skills that is. But that's why so many people in his position hire qualified corporate people to run their businesses, or at least agents and PR people and lawyers to deal with the boring day-to-day slog of contracts and paying bills and making sure people show up to work and stuff.
He didn't do that. He never learned that? He's out of Vancouver, and he didn't know he could do this any better?
Or is he just so greedy that any dollar spent on something not immediately generating 2 dollars wasn't appealing to him? That's such bad business. Like, his entire brand and career was always doomed the moment all the behind-the-scenes shit he refused to be a man about inevitably went public. And that is exactly what happened.
Businesses are inherently evil and exploitative. Sure. But they also pay all those people and have all those rules because they NEED TO. To follow the law, to not get sued, to stay solvent. How did a 35+ year old man, presumably with a mortgage and family, not ever learn this? I'm not much older than him, I don't even have a YouTube channel, and I knew this. Come on, dude.
...Also, LTT OnlyFans? Where you allegedly made at least one female employee flirt with guys sending her cock pics?? What kind of exploding clown car shit is that?? Where in Steve Jobs's biography did he sell iPhones by making his PA do topless conference calls? That sounds like something I would sarcastically suggest a failing company try. And I'm an idiot who has to remind myself that wrestling isn't real at least 4 times a week.
I hope Linus and the other Reddit trolls he hired go to jail or at least get fined for all the obviously illegal things they did. And Lord give the rest of us the strength to cancel them for all the other nonsense they pulled that didn't actually break Canadian law.
And if you still need product reviews to help you shop for graphics cards, watch Gamers Nexus, the guys who stood up to call LTT out in an unimpeachable way, back when they got nothing but flack for it. I can't vouch for their accuracy, but they at least seem to care about more than just pimping the Algorithm for money they can then ill-advisedly invest in doomed little tech startups no one cares about. Another thing Linus does.
Say what you will about Jimmy Donaldson, but at least he just rebranded crappy chocolate bars. Which was also a confusing and stupid thing to do, but at least no one got groped. Allegedly. That we know of. Yet.
...People may have gotten injured during his Squid Game thing. I can't remember the details. And I can't google MrBeast facts without YouTube peeing the very worst content all over my recommendations for the next month.
I think we can all just agree that Google deciding to do revenue sharing with content creators was probably one of the worst decisions they ever made; that we, as a global society, have ever made. These are the people who after 20+ years still haven't come up with a user-friendly interface for Gmail, and we put them in charge of Earth's television?
Linus is terrible, and we made him into what he is today. It would be great if we could all learn from this sort of thing.
We won't, but wouldn't it be great?

Linus Sebastion from Linus Tech Tips fame in his most recent "we're really trying, trust me bro" video was like
Waaaah the people attacking our staff to the point where we have to pay psych counselling for them, they are so mean and so totally not part of our community :(
This is after they tolerated the toxic parts of the community for almost a decade. And if you look into their forums, they still tolerate this kind of toxic mob mentality.
The LTT community forums about ex-staff coming forward with allegations of workplace misconduct:
Tumblr media
There's multiple comments like this one, many more comments trying to find the most minor things to try to spin it like Madison(the young woman who came forward) was lying, despite current and former LMG staff liking her Tweet chain in which she came forward(which one might interpret as acknowledgement).
Like, Linus, bruv, when your community forum users behave like 4chan and you don't draw a hard line there with moderation you do not get to shed responsibility for what your community does to your staff by saying "you're not part of it". These horrible people are part of your community. You literally grew your company on their mob-like behaviour.
But I guess it's fine when it's towards former staff members, after all, they're not "part of the team", eh?
