Crazy Bubble AU

Dipper wakes up in his bed to a Mabel who is extremely sorry for ignoring dipper when dippy fresh was around claiming that after being separated for so long she realised his importance. Dipper finds her apology and reaction a bit too extreme, even for her, but forgives her.

Mabel promises to never leave him again and to do everything in her power to make him happy. The rest of the day the twins roam around town and have adventures. Nothing goes wrong and everything is perfect...a bit too perfect but hey, maybe Dipper's being paranoid...did Mabel's eyes glow pink for a second?

Cut to the mystery shack gang going through the tear and finding themselves in Mabeland where everything is sparkly and happy...if you didn't notice the sadness hidden underneath.

Later 'borrowing' a car they go to the castle knowing that's where alternate Mabel would be. After passing the waffle guards they find b!Mabel (alternate bubble Mabel) who did not look alright. Unlike their Mabel whose known to be full of life and joy this one looked...tired. She had the look of someone solely surviving on Mabel juice and no sleep for centuries.

Turns out b!Mabel, unlike ours, chose to stay in her bubble resulting in dipper to be kicked out and forced to face reality alone. Weirdmaggedon went worldwide in this reality and after destroying everything Bill moved on to the next universe leaving b!Mabel alone, with no family or home to go to.

B!Mabel later hated herself for her actions and after finally finding a way to get her brother back, she promised to never let him be sad again which led to her bringing dipper in the bubble and trapping him in an illusion of a perfect world where nothing could go wrong.

The gang is then forced to either leave, stay and have fun but without Dipper or play many of b!Mabel's infinite games if they want dipper back.

Happy New Year! I decided to take a break from my drawing list to draw a palate cleanser and so you get Goddess Mabel from my "Goddess Mabel AU" and Pine Tree/Demon Dipper from "Heaven to Hell with a Pat" just kind of hanging out. He's got a pretty rough life right now with his uncle trying to kill him and being kind of adopted by Bill Cipher and she's pretty much forgotten everything before Mabeland but is weirdly obsessed with Dipper and doesn't like him growing interested in other girls. So, that's fun. Anyways, back to my drawing list! Starting with a meme and a way-late Christmas picture.

When I saw what the Collector had done with the place, I thought first, as I’m sure many of y’all did, of Mabeland from Gravity Falls. That brought my mind to the theme from that Gravity Falls episode of using fantasy as a means to refuse to face reality. And y’know what that made me think of next?

“Mija, your fantasy world is holding you back. Do you have any friends? Real ones? Not imagined, or drawn, or reptilian?”

Camila’s line from the very first episode of The Owl House, spoken not even two minutes into the start of the show. What Camila is accusing Luz of here is very similar to what the Collector is actually doing. He’s created a fantasy world for himself to live in, and the friends he has in it are not real. They may as well be imaginary, given that the Collector has complete control over them. 

And now, Luz has to fight against the Collector! In a way, isn’t she fighting against this misguided perception of herself? Is she proving once and for all that she is not denying reality by choosing to also engage in the fantastical? And she’s going to do that with friends standing by her side, showing that she can have real friends without changing who she is!

This idea needs some more fleshing out, but I’m very excited about it. It’s all coming full circle now.

Dipper started noticing strange things around him, for one, everyone was acting extremely nice towards him. Heck! grunkle Stan didn't even give him any chores. He seemed to have also become really popular in the town. Mabel said they were grateful for all he'd done. While it wasn't that he didn't appreciate it, it just felt sudden for the town

Secondly, his sister seemed to be acting weird and not the Mabel kind of weird. Not that he didn't mind spending time with Mabel but she was always with him. He never saw her knit sweaters, play with waddles, candy and grenda or work on her crazy ideas which was concerning at the very least.

Mabel and the gang try to free Dipper multiple times but something always went wrong leading to a very ticked off Mabel having an emotional confrontation with b!Mabel and calling out b!Mabel on her selfishness for trapping her twin brother against his will for her own gain.

At the same time Dipper realises the truth about the illusion and a very upset Dipper confronts b!Mabel about it.

This causes b!Mabel to have a breakdown and finally freeing Dipper from the illusion afterwords.

After a very thorough explanation and a ton of apologies b!Mabel decides to move on. Seeing her family and friends again gave her enough closure and courage to leave Mabeland and everything else as well.

Dipper and b!Mabel spent some time together after which she moves on and everyone else goes home.

One thing I don't really see anyone talking about with regards to Gravity Falls is the parallel's between Ford's apprenticeship and Mabeland. Many, many times, the question has been raised 'should Dipper have accepted Ford's apprenticeship', but no-one ever argues 'should Mabel have stayed in Mabeland', for obvious reasons, the show portrays one as a no-brainer and the other as a complex decision. But I think the two situations parallel one another nicely.

For Dipper, taking Ford's apprenticeship is definitely the more attractive option. He doesn't appear to have a lot of friends in Piedmont, has been historically bullied and may still be, and Dipper generally doesn't want to deal with the trials of growing up. Ford meanwhile, basically treats Dipper like an equal, not like a kid, encourages Dipper, and allows Dipper to pursue his interests to the fullest. However, to take the apprenticeship, Dipper will be cloistering himself in an environment in which he never has to do the things he's scared of, he avoids confronting the realities that he doesn't want to deal with, and he'll miss out on going through life with his sister.

For Mabel, staying in Mabeland is the more attractive option. There's an apocalypse raging outside, her brother is growing away from her, she's going to have to leave friends that it's implied are the best she's ever had, and we know that she too, has been bullied in the past, and may still be, and Wendy's well and truly terrified her about the concept of growing up. In Mabeland however, Mabel can continue to live in a charmed reality, surrounded by the things she's interested in and in an environment where she's constantly being enabled, and any dissenters are ejected. However, to remain in Mabeland, Mabel is cloistering herself in an environment where she never has to do the things she's scared of, she avoids confronting the realities she doesn't want to deal with, and she's pushed away one of the most important parts of her life: her brother.

During Dipper's trial, we as viewers see Mabel's change of heart as Dipper shows her that despite the trials the real world has thrown at both of them, that they've always had each others backs, and Dipper realises that too (there was a really good essay on this a while back by @cryoalliums ). Even though they're both scared, and both wanting to avoid the reality of adolescence and high school and unpredictability, they both realise through Dipper's trial that by burying themselves in their respective fantasies, they'll lose the one person who's always had their back: each other. Whether or not it's bullies or a giant robot, the twins have always had each other as a support system, and an ally, and they both realise during the trial that they'd rather fight by one another's side than hide from their problems.

So sure, Dipper could have taken the apprenticeship. He could have chosen to take the tailor-made, one-on-one advanced education that allowed him to pursue his interests to the fullest. But Mabel could also have chosen to stay in the world surrounded by her interests, where she was safe from the things she wanted to avoid. I think it's interesting that these two situations are so paralleled, and yet it's rarely discussed.

ive been rewatching gravity falls and i thought it would be funny to recap certain events in the show with no context whatsoever

-dipper sings dancing queen by abba with a mutant bear he was about to kill.

-stan, a man in his 60-70s, lectures a child on how to formulate an evil plan. (the child is 4 years old, stans rival, and having a mental breakdown because stan's granchildren are in his armpits)

-dipper gets literally mauled by a wolf and decides its better than going to his sister's sleepover.

-larry king gets decapitated.

-kids break in to a convenience store where one of them gets high out of her mind on cheap illegal ice cream (normal tuesday for these kids)

-kids find out about the 8th and a half president: who made the first all-baby supreme court.

-grunkle stan wins the football bowl. he taught the footballers and their gloating friends a lesson. he wins a football winning trophy, and a beautiful woman aptly named beautiful woman. but he couldnt have done it, any of it, without his sidekick footbot.

-soos is canonically afraid of british dog men. hes so real for that honestly.

-ARE YOU SICK OF PILES OF OWLS CONSTANTLY BLOCKING YOUR DRIVEWAY?! WELL THEN YOU GOTTA GET OWL TROWEL

-youre laughing. people are sick of piles of owls constantly blocking their driveway and youre laughing.

-the only on screen character death, with the exception of bill, is that of big henry, who sacrificed himself by taking a golf ball to the other side of the mine. the protagonists never learn this.

-soos turns into clay and starts breaking the laws of the universe. so stan kills him with a radio.

-two kids travel back in time and crush toby's musical theatre dreams.

-"dudebro" became a mainstay in my regular vocabulary for two years because of this show.

-grunkle stan teaches a bear how to drive. he almost gets arrested in this episode. not for teaching a bear how to drive but because of tax fraud.

-soos' stomach emits whale noises.

-mcgucket has apparently exploded an entire downtown city because his pal earnie didn't come to his retirement party. justified tbh

-stan starts booing some little kids because they told their grandpa they loved him

-let me just set the scene for a sec here: its 2016. its a beautiful summer day, where the hazy nostalgia of a music festival fills your eyes, your ears, and the uneasy excitement of love in the hot summer air makes every second better than the last. suddenly, a gigantic flaming head of a man saying "i eat kids" descends upon you from the sky. the graphic horror is something youll never forget. the grotesque image of people in terror at this gargantuan mass of flaming flesh. it burns into your eyes. is this it for you? you see a child, clueless to the situation, ask his mother his final words: is the giant flaming head going to eat us? she says yes. as it consumes you, you cry a single tear. im done being dramatic but this did happen

-beautiful men eat out of stan's trash (this apparently happens consistently)

-youre laughing. darn beautiful men are always eating out of his trash and youre laughing.

-stan strips on public television.

-gourney gets eaten by a halloween monster. he is only freed when soos eats the monnster.

-the gravity falls universe has a public television program where babies fight each other.

-grunkle stan tries to burn aforementioned four year old nemesis alive.

-ok not really but he tries to blind him at least which is still pretty bad.

-grunkle stan tries to steal an animatronic badger

-mabeland has a government entirely run by mabel. this makes mabel an autocratic fascist. sorry i dont make the rules.

-soos' mom turns into a chair.

-theres a character named toot toot mc bumblesnazzle, who plays a banjo. go ahead and guess his narrative importance. if you guess cult leader, correct!

-neil degrasse tyson plays a pig.

and last but certainly not least, stan has illegally shipped pugs across the us border.

According to Journal 3, Ford's been eagerly waiting thirty years to hear Eurythmics' "new" album.

Mabel is into synth music and 80s music; since that's what she turns to in the mindscape and in Mabeland, it may be close to the core of her musical preferences.

Proposal: Mabel and Ford have the same musical taste, and it's synth-pop & new wave music.

Mabel gets to introduce Ford to all the mid-to-late 80s masterpieces he missed out on. Everyone else has to endure the two of them bopping along to a-ha and Erasure whenever they drive anywhere.

🌲 pines family headcanons ✨ click the read more for more in-depth headcanon stuff!

this started out as a little silly edit of ford, then i decided to do one for stan as well and once that happened i knew i had to do edits for the pines twins as well. i might end up doing others like soos, wendy and pacifica but for now we have the main four pines.

🌲 dipper has glasses but prefers not to wear them. he thinks they look nerdy but wears them more often with the support of mabel and his grunkles. 🌲 bisexual disaster. 🌲 dipper will always be a transboy in my head. struggled with gaining acceptance from his parents but knows he always has a place where he can be himself in gravity falls. 🌲 CW SELF HARM IMPLIED: his dysphoria and dissociation from his body ends up worse for a while after sock opera. for a while turns to… not so great methods to remind himself that his body is his own. 🌲 became clingy after weirdmageddon, either clinging to his sister and grunkles before going back to piedmont or just staying by mabel's side often after. 🌲 probably has pierced ears but would wear very subtle earrings, to mabel's displeasure.

🌠 big decora kei vibes. so many stickers and hair pins. she also will often wear mismatched socks! 🌠 is the one to suggest she and dipper get a matching hair streak. blue was the only color dipper would agree to. 🌠 mabel gives me big pansexual vibes. starts to discover her own identity around the time dipper does, and ends up dating candy and/or grenda for a hot minute. 🌠 wholly supported dipper when he came out as a transboy and was his biggest ally growing up. 🌠 after weirdmageddon she asks ford for drawing lessons. the two bond over arts and crafts. 🌠 CW MILD ED suffers from a sort of survivor's guilt after weirdmageddon, guilt over being tricked by bill and almost staying in mabeland manifesting mostly in the form of being a people pleaser, forgetting to eat and sleep. the other pines thankfully notice this and put a stop to it.

🎣 i love long haired stan. i like to imagine after the series the guy feels comfortable enough to grow his hair out again. 🎣 stretched earlobes! 🎣 is a transman and also gnc as hell. he also is insanely good at using makeup. (dipper and ford don't really use makeup and mabel just likes to be Silly with makeup.) 🎣 (tbh i can also imagine stanley as being transfeminine as well, they're just That Gender.) 🎣 as soon as mabel saw his "glorious mane" she was practically begging him to let her braid it. he pretends to just go along with it for her sake but he secretly loves having her do his hair. 🎣 the adhd to ford's autism. he definitely suffers hard from rejection sensitive dysphoria and tends to panic if it seems like someone is upset with him. (i.e. ford confronting him over the broken machine, mabel upset with him for lying in the land before swine.)

✋ his sweater is a huge comfort for him. in general he likes heavier clothes to ground him. ✋ i like to imagine him with plenty of earrings and tattoos. earrings mainly themed around space and stars and ends up getting some tattos on his wrists to cover the burn scars from weirdmageddon. ✋ a touch of the tism. has a hard time distinguishing tone. (i.e. not being able to tell if wendy was complimenting him ironically or not.) ✋ while he doesn't mind if people see him as a man, he himself doesn't feel all that attached to the idea of being male. fine with any pronouns but probably likes to use neopronouns. (maybe star/starself?) ✋ achillean, mainly attracted to enbies and men. tried to date a few girls growing up to try and be "normal" (comphet's a binch) but at around high school enough bad experiences made him avoid dating for a while. ✋ he loves loves loves space and astronomy! it's sort of his hyperfixation. used to name constellations with stanley while spending nights on the stan o war and they bond over this on the stan o war ii!
