Magolor: I’m gonna be honest Marx, I was expecting you to get bored of this place and leave the theme park within a week- even now I’m still surprised you’re still sticking around

Marx: Oh I don’t know- maybe it’s because it’s a theme park and it gives me so much stuff to do and it’s actually enjoyable and not some dead end job?!? Not to mention the free snacks and getting to spend all day with you-

Magolor: I can’t imagine you having a job outside of the theme park- wait what was the last part?

Marx: Oh the free snacks? Yeah lemme tell you I don’t know how you do it but the food here is amazing lemme tell you and the best part is that they’re FREE!! You physically can’t go wrong with free food-

Magolor: Well I hire the best Waddle Dee chefs after all! Even I’m amazed by how good their cooking is

Marx: SEE YOU GET ME! And yes I like spending all day with you-

Magolor: OF COURSE I D- wait really?

Marx: Does I look like I’m lying???!

Magolor: Well no that’s expected we spent a year together before you left- but you still enjoy spending time with me?? Even after all this time??

Marx: Of course?? You get me- compared to Taranza or Susie you’re the only one who really knows and gets me- Gryll barely makes the cut and we see each other as sibling. But you?!? We’re like one and the same- you’re my best friend, no one puts up with me more than you. So yes. Even after all this time, I still want to spend time with you.

Magolor: … the fact that you’re able to say something so touching doesn’t feel real

Marx: Well congrats this is very much real! You better treasure this because it won’t be happening again for a LONG TIME

By the time I post this it’s most likely still 2023- I know I haven’t been on my usual schedule recently but honestly? The past 7 months on this account have been the best thing ever for me. I get to share my silly ideas for my silly au and you guys come on by and enjoy it.

and to think that this account has come so far and the stories I have in mind aren’t even out yet. It’s just so crazy to me. Not to mention I actually managed to make some friends, something I thought I would never be able to do anymore because I’m too scared to post/reach out to people. To the people that willingly wanted to talk me, thank you. Thank you for being my friend, you don’t know how much that means to me <333

And to everyone who found this account- weither it’s from day 1 or a week ago, thank you for sticking around and putting up with me- I’ll try my damn best to get more posts out- just bare with me I still never got to the Christmas ones- but I will get to them I promise. But I hope I can continue to make you guys happy with my AU! I got this far might as well keep it up :DDDD

Curious, in this au what is Marx’s role in this story. Is he changed at all or different

I try to incorporate and mix anime & game lore in order (to try) achieve a good mix of both... (but everyone is 10 x emotional & sympathetic...)

So Marx was the last creation of N.M.E and was to be the "pièce de ré·sis·tance," a monster in the guise of a friend. Not just that, but the "perfect friend for Kirby." (Planning to take advantage of Kirby's soft heart and friendly nature.)

Similar to how they used the following monsters (Chill, Galbo, Kirby's Robot-dog, etc.), but he was never finished... the Nightmare's base was destroyed when Kirby & the townsfolk blew up the base.

Marx was just left there all alone... the only thing that survived. But he didn't know what was his purpose. And the minute he's born, all he can see are these soldiers (Star Warriors) hunting him down.

Thankfully, our friendly N.M.E Salesman saves him and tells him all about it, basically his last act of revenge against King Dedede & Kirby. And he honestly feels fulfilling his purpose is what's going to make him feel whole.

He even tells him that it was Kirby and the gang's fault he's left all along up here with no one. His beef wasn't just with Kirby but with everyone in Dreamland (but the anger is mostly towards cappies... they blew up his home).

Marx is pretty central to Kirby's stories and is one of the core reasons why he wants to become a star warrior. He does serve as one of Kirby's most loyal allies and one of Kirby's closest friends.

HEAVY SPOILER WARNING FOR (KNIGHTMARE'S END & KING DEDEDE REMPTION ARC)... Keep reading if you'd like... I'm going to water down everything and skim over some details in this explanation. And there's some art content as well)

(After the events of The Knightmare's End)

After remembering his past with Meta Knight... Kirby wanted more than anything to rekindle his relationship with his long-lost guardian. With Kirby regaining his memories it was easy for him to slip and reestablish the closeness he had with Meta Knight back when he was an infant. (He missed him so much...)

Meta Knight (on his part) was determined to make up for all the lost time, teach him everything he knew, and eager to reconnect with his boy after all those wretched years alone. He was ready to give him the world... (Basically, he spoiled him rotten for a while! XD)

Being under Meta Knight's tutelage, Kirby began to mature properly, even learning how to talk... but he taught him in a way that made him excited to learn. With each lesson, he'd weave tales from his past... which allowed Kirby to learn more about Team Halberd (their family). He'd even invite Knuckle Joe & Sircia for lessons & sparring so they could learn about their parents.

For Meta Knight, spending time with Kirby managed to heal the wounds around his heart. As for Kirby, he felt like this was what he had been missing all this life (a parental figure), someone who could always be there for him & love him no matter what. The bond they shared made each other feel less lonely, and it was one in which they helped each other grow.

But unknowingly this had consequences...

With Meta Knight reclaiming as Kirby's guardian leaves Fumu in this status of limbo. Fumu basically got everything she wanted... being free of the burden she was as the keeper of the warpstar. But she didn't know how drastically his relationship with Kirby would change.

Fumu still doesn't know Kirby overheard what she said... he just doesn't want to trouble her anymore (like she wanted). The events of the whole anime series took a toll on Kirby. (Namely, with the cappies wanting to kick him out.) He found himself staying away from town.

While everyone in Cappy town tried to make it up to Kirby... and forgave them. He never really trusted them or allowed them to get close to him like they used to. Fumu sees this and tries to remedy the situation, which backfires terribly. (Is the same thing similar to the "Kirby Takes the Cake,"- episode where he runs away.)

Fumu: Kirby this is your home, everyone lo-

Kirby: Then why doesn't it feel like home-

Fumu: Kirby but why-

Kirby: Poyo... going to Meta Knight's...

This was the moment when she realized just out of touch she was with Kirby. Bun could only watch this trainwreck... and couldn't help but be upset with Kirby turning down all his sister's party. Causing a rift between the friends. (They still didn't get it Fumu & Bun.)

This divide is made even further with the (redemption arc) of King Dedede. (Events involving Dark Matter)

Kirby forgives Dedede and now considers him a friend!? This leaves Fumu & Bun desperate to convenience him otherwise... believing him to be too trusting & too naive... But who should come to back Kirby on his decision is none other than Meta Knight!

Kirby: But he means you don't see what I-

Fumu: He's tricking you, Kirby! Like he always does...

Bun: Yeah, how many times has he pulled this "turned over a new leaf junk" on everyone!

KD: It's fine kiddo... I won't stay where I'm not wanted I'll-

Kirby: Poyo, (sees KD visually uncomfortable) but Dedede...

Fumu: Meta Knight, aren't you going to do something, stop-

Meta Knight: I stand by my pupil's decision... This is Kirby's choice... I trust him... do not overstep your boundaries, both of you!

Resulting in Kirby spending more time with Dedede & MK than with them (helping the king to better himself). The siblings want nothing to do with Dedede's betterment. Bun & Fumu... they can't help but resent Dedede but this also minimizes the time their time with Kirby.

It bothers them how increasingly chummy he's they've been getting with King Dedede. (There's also a little incident that Kirby & Meta Knight swore to keep secret for KD's sake that they two don't know about... which would have probably made them more sympathetic to King Deded, it just wasn't their (Kirby & MK) story to tell...)

In truth, Marx didn't have to do that much... he just had to expose Fumu & Bun's deepest insecurities about their friendships. With Bun being the main chess piece in it all.

(Marx's arc takes place after "Kirby and the Crystal Shards" )This is Kirby's first major adventure... without them.

Fumu bottles up her feelings... but Bun is furious and extremely jealous of King Dedede: it almost feels like they've both been replaced with the guy who tried to get rid of him before.

Causing tension from the once-knit, tight group of friends (Fumu & Bun). And the dynamic of the trio has been altered... causing the cracks in their relationship undeniable... And who should take advantage of these cracks... Marx.

Marx's major role in this arc serves to expose the cracks in the friendships he has with Fumu & Bun. And show how a pile of little problems can destroy a once-strong friend.

So, without going into detail...: Marx manages to manipulate the heck out of Bun & the other kids (the group he hangs out with in the anime) to bully Kirby, leading to the kids pranking and almost killing King Dedede.

Bun receives the brunt of the punishment and reveals his jealousy and anger at Kirby, leaving him and Fumu behind (especially after the Ripple Star saga).

This leads to Kirby calling Bun a horrible friend, resulting in "Empathic touch" being accidentally used. Bun & the kid gang are forced to see and feel what they've been doing to Kirby... even before the incident. All the times they made him feel small, left out, stupid, and different...

It's finally to revealed Fumu that Kirby heard her rant about "How she never wanted to look after Kirby..."

Everything all clicks to her now and she starts to apologize profusely. But it's far too late for that... because to Kirby... Fumu's actions lately (Marx also manipulated her into ignoring Kirby) prove it otherwise.

And they (Bun & the kid gang) feel awful (AS THEY RIGHTFULLY SHOULD!) And META KNIGHT IS ABSOLUTELY LIVID, no longer trusts Bun, and says, "I'm utterly disappointed in you..." And doesn't want him and those "gutter children" (Meta Knight) near Kirby... again...

But he (MK) apologizes to Fumu... "I'm sorry Fumu... I should have never got you involved... I will try better not to..."

Fumu: Not that's not what I wanted, Kirby- *reaches out to him*

Kirby pulled away from her, disheartened... Meta Knight trying his best to comfort Kirby... with Dedede carrying him in his arms... they both bring the poor baby home.

Marx relishes this! During this incident managed to paint himself as an absolute saint... (being the one who told MK of the bullying, warning Kirby about the car, etc.) while Bun was the evil mastermind (when in reality it was Marx).

While Marx may have been the main puppeteer, these were issues that were already beneath the surface... Marx just dug them up. (This is why this friend problem is carried into the next 2 arcs... okay back to Marx...)

Taking full advantage of Kirby's low state and doing his job as the perfect friend. And he actually manages to cheer him up! He plays with Kirby and listens to his problems (slowly accidentally gets attached and realizes how alike they are and... NONONO! Marx you've got a job to do!) But the more he spent time with Kirby the more his inner guilt grew...

A few weeks later, the game plot begins with a bit of a change.

Meta Knight is still suspicious of Marx... so rather than letting Kirby go alone to collect the stars, he goes with him (plus he's too young to travel alone.) Basically, Meta Knightmare Ultra & Kirby Milky Way Wishes combined. In short, the trip ends up being a fun father-son trip... just with them having to stop the Sun and the Moon from fighting at the end.

Meta Knight takes this as an opportunity to have him unpack the situation with Fumu & Bun. However, he doesn't give him the false hope that everything will be patched up instantly... it's going to take time and effort. And friends just sometimes (unintentionally) drift apart... especially when you're growing up... they change.

Meta Knight then reveals that he had a friend like that too and they ended up drifting apart as well... but it ended terribly (Galacta Knight). They collect all the stars (yada, yada, yada) same plot line happened, "Marx Villain reveal" but with a little twist.

When it comes time to make the wish... Nova attempts to grant the wish, but they cannot grant the wish. They tried multiple times as a result of this happened:

Nova: Are you sure this is what you want?!

Marx: OF COURSE THIS IS MY PURPOSE! MY DESTINY GRANT MY DANG WISH ALREADY YOU DAM-

Nova: That's not what you want... You don't really want this...

Marx: What are you...

Meta Knight takes this as the opportunity to fly into Nova... Basically, it was Meta Knight the one to destroy the Nova Clockwork, instead of Kirby on the Starship.

While Kirby takes on Marx... he tries to talk to Marx, but he's not having it... This is where Marx's Soul kicks in as he rages on all the while tears, are leaking from his eyes. Blaming Kirby for his failures, claiming he must have done something.

Marx constantly angrily asks, "WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME!," "WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME! YOU AND YOU'RE STUPID CAPPIES ARE THE REASON I'M ALONE IN THIS WORLD! YOU DESTROYED MY HOME AND RUINED MY LIFE I HAVE NO ONE! I HAD A DESTINY! I HAD A PURPOSE, AND YOU! I WAS CREATED TO WRECK HAVC! ... so ...WHY... Why... *begins to cry* I'm supposed to hate- You and your stupid friendship... why do I feel-*

Then Kirby hits him with an "empathic touch," which shows pretty much a montage of Marx and Kirby's moments together. He pretty much shows that "he was enjoying his time with Kirby...", and "he does care for Kirby..." (Oh no did he actually want to be friends with Kirby- This wasn't so supposed to happen!?)

Kirby understands it all: feeling lost, trying hard to fit in, finding your place in the world. What happened to him after the destruction of Nightmare's base. (how he was abused by a certain someone) Kirby just felt so sorry for Marx and was oozing with empathy for him.

Kirby: It's okay Marx I forgive y-

Marx: DON'T... Don't I... I don't deserve- AAARGH!

Due to Kirby's "empathic touch," he was able to also feel how much the friendship meant to Kirby. Marx can't help but he failed on both ends... he couldn't do what he was made for and he may have just lost his first and only friend...

And just before Kirby has a chance to forgive Marx: he flees anger at himself for everything he's done. He doesn't want Kirby's forgiveness (he doesn't deserve it...), leaving behind his balancing-ball.

Marx does make a wish, however... but it's not what you think...

Once destroying the Nova Clockwork Meta Knight, rushes to console his Kirby.

Meta Knight: Kirby, are you alright-

Kirby: If had just one person in his life... maybe he wouldn't have... he could've been my friend- poyo~*starts crying* I can't hate him, I just can't... ARE ALL MY FRIENDSHIPS GOING TO AMOUNT TO THIS IN THE END... LIKE THIS!?

Meta Knight: Oh my poor boy you've been through so much-

Kirby: Am I dumb, hoping he'll come back as my friend... IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!?

Meta Knight: It doesn't have to... *hugs him* this friendship meant a lot to you... it helped you through a tough time * Think back on his friendship with Galacta, although it hurt him in the end, he was grateful for the good it did* it made you less lonely I think that part's worth cherishing... and I don't think you're dumb...

Kirby: Huh?

Meta Knight: After the war, I kept seeing the worst in everything... expecting the worst... to stop me from-... but it blinded me from the good as well (he's referring to Kirby) and... I fell into despair. *pats his head* I'm sorry to say this probably won't be the last something like this will happen, but...

*wipes tears with his cape*

Meta Knight says something that resonates with Kirby... and it's something he carries even to this day.

Meta Knight: So keep your eyes open and beware of the bad in the world... but also *takes Marx's ball and gives it to Kirby* hold on... hold on to the good as well... you don't have to look, just know that it's there... it'll keep you from falling...

For a while, Marx wonders galaxy... I'm not gonna reveal what he does just yet, but... the path he takes leads him back to Kirby.

One thing leads to another, and Kirby gets saved... BY MARX?! Marx tries to flee after saying Kirby, but he gets gravely injured... which forces him to have to stay put. Well, he tries to escape and is literally a feral cat the whole time. He just feels too darn guilty still about everything about Nova's Wish... and doesn't believe Kirby actually forgives him.

So, as a compromise, they let him recover in Halcandra. They cash in a favor from Magolor. Marx gets to know Magolor and basically talks about his story with Kirby. (Literally, Mags just redeemed himself recently...) This interaction makes him feel a little better... but he's still a little anxious that is until Kirby shows him his ball...

I really love Marx's story arc... I hope I didn't spoil too much there are a few secrets still hidden, but like I said this is a very watered-down version of everything hope you stick around for the full story!

You know what would be a banger story?

Bandee getting amnesia and his friends falling over their feet to try and get him back to normal.

No, don't look at me like that. I promise my idea's at least kind of good. I think.

I'm not sure my idea really counts as "amnesia" since Bandee hasn't really lost his memory so much as it got sealed off by the villain, who's using Bandee as a distraction so he can take over Popstar(bog standard motive, I know. Least his method's creative . . ?). But anyways.

Bandee get hits by the sealing spell, and regresses HARD. Back to pre RTDL, where he really started to come into his own as a hero. Obviously, the rest of the Dream Team(plus Elfilin and Magolor) freak out. No one knows about the villain, so they're all frantically trying to figure out WHAT happened and HOW do we reverse/fix it. Magolor's flipping through spellbook after spellbook, and everyone else is carrying Bandee from place to place trying to jog his memory. Meta Knight takes him for a flight(you were so scared the first time . . ), Dedede asks him to help with a mechanical project(how many late nights have we spent like this?), Kirby takes him apple picking(you taught me how to get them without hurting the tree!), and Elfilin brings him to Waddle Dee town(I thought it was amazing, the way you kept everyone together). And slowly, Bandee starts to feel he's been here before . . . that's he's something more than he thinks.

(One of the few actual scenes in my head involves Elfilin and Bandee watching the sunset in Waddle Dee town, and Elfilin admitting that while Kirby's his hero and friend, Bandee's the one he really looks up to. [In my headcanon, Elfilin met Bandee before Kirby arrived, and watched him organize construction efforts, keep up morals, and really be a leader. And after the events, Bandee was one of the most encouraging in helping Elfilin learn to handle his power, always patient and understanding. Safe to say, Bandee really means a lot to Elfilin, just as much as Kirby] Bandee is really touched by this confession, and the sealing spell, already weakening, starts to crack ever so slightly.)

While Elfilin is taking Bandee back to Castle Dedede, they come across the villain, who's begun their attack, in combat with Kirby and the others, and things aren't looking too great for the Dream Team. This causes something to click in Bandee's head. These people are his FRIENDS, and he has to help them, he can't let them lose. This revelation is the final straw for the seal, which breaks and causes the sealed memories to flood back. With the memories comes new resolve, and he manages to turn the tide of the battle, and is, fittingly, the one to defeat the villain.

All in all, everything turns out okay. Everyone's relieved that Bandee is back to normal, and Bandee has a new understanding just how much he means to the people around him. The final scene in a way mirrors the scene in WDT, with everyone watching the sunrise together.

Magolor getting isekai'd into the Kirby Clash universe provides an opportunity to say "okay but what if Magolor specifically got isekai'd into 'x' universe" while he is both at his most powerful but still a sopping wet creature coming off a traumatic experience. Like you could do that. Imagine all the situations you could put him in.

Love on a silver screen (link)

When Taranza had agreed to have a movie night with the magician, he hadn't imagined that it would provoke such infatuation in Magolor. He found it hard to understand why Magolor seemed so excited at the prospect, given that he and Marx were used to movie marathons until dawn.

What's more, the Floralian wasn't much of a cinephile, and he feared he might not be the most receptive person. Added to this was the fact that Taranza was an early sleeper. What if he didn't like the film? What if he fell asleep before the end? Magolor would surely be upset!

Fortunately, the Halcadran had quickly dispelled his fears. Whether he liked the film or not, the important thing was to spend an evening together, and Taranza was all for that.

He'd only been officially a couple for a few weeks, so the two lovebirds were still finding it slightly difficult to acclimatize to this new part of their lives.

Despite having spent much of his life imagining himself at Joronia's side, and having consummated a multitude of romance stories, Taranza found himself intimidated now that he was actually in a relationship. Spending these days with Magolor was great, but Taranza was still a little nervous of not being able to live up to someone so great. Ironically enough, the other magician felt the same way.

After a day of wandering around Dream Land and having one of those candlelit dinners Taranza loved so much, Magolor had hurried to get everything ready.

The spider was admittedly pretty tired, but watching his boyfriend go out of his way to make their night unforgettable once again had immediately put him back in the mood. There was something endearing about seeing him like this, the usual polite and ceremonial mask coming off to reveal his passionate side. He loved the "cool Magolor" as much as the "nerd Magolor", and watching him muddle through his various CDs while monologuing about the cultural impact of these films made his heart warm all over again.

Taranza had never needed to remember why he'd fallen in love with the feline, but seeing him so cheerful and enthusiastic could have triggered another love at first sight.

After inserting the disc and switching on the large flat screen, Magolor asked Lor to turn off the lights. Soon, the two magicians were snuggled under large blankets on their sofa.

From what Magolor had told him, Taranza was about to watch a masterpiece of cinema that the inter-dimensional pilot had found himself in the rubble of an ancient world forgotten on an old voyage. He couldn't stop talking about his admiration for his favorite film, which made the arachnid chuckle, finding it simply adorable. Seeing Magolor so open was always a treat.

Finally, explosions covered the screen, startling Taranza who grabbed Magolor's hand. The latter, after a quick tease, kissed the cheek of his "Ranran", which had the effect of darkening his bluish blush.

The rest of the night went according to plan, if not more amazing than Taranza's already high expectations. The drawn style struck a chord with him immediately, and as the minutes ticked by, he found himself more and more invested in the plot. With his eyes riveted and one of his hands still entangled with one of Magolor's, the bowl of popcorn quickly emptied.

If Magolor was casting small glances in his direction to assure himself of his comfort, his apprehension diminished as the movie progressed. His snide comments during certain cheesy scenes, as if in fear that Taranza would look down on him for liking what some considered a children's cartoon, also became increasingly rare. Soon enough, they were lying silently against each other, enjoying this little moment of happiness together.

It wasn't until the credits that Taranza remembered that there was a world beyond the one in the film, and that a weight had settled on his right shoulder. With some embarrassment, he realized that he had completely disregarded his surroundings, and even more so the handsome guy with whom he shared the sofa. He now felt all too well the absence of his fingers intertwined with his.

Slowly turning his head to thank Magolor for this incredible night, Taranza's heart nearly leapt out of his chest. His beloved kitty was no longer standing beside him...

He was literally sleeping against him!

Magolor rested his head against his shoulder, his arms wrapped around his. In a deep sleep, the love of his life emitted a little snore that could have melted him on the spot.

And by the stars, was it a light purr he was emitting?!

Taranza tensed, however, as he noticed that the pilot's hood had fallen back, revealing his scars. He wasn't sure if this was deliberate, and he knew how much Magolor hated showing them. Even if he had revealed them to Taranza before, they normally remained constantly concealed beneath the garment. It broke the Floralian's heart a little to know that Magolor thought he'd look at him differently if he left his wounds exposed for too long, but Taranza was willing to sacrifice the sight of his beautiful hair if it made him feel more at ease.

Taranza tried to stand up to give Magolor more room, but Magolor unconsciously pulled out his claws, determined not to let go of his substitute cuddly toy.

Taranza felt a little conflicted. This would be the first time he and Magolor had really slept together, and he wondered if he was ready to take the plunge.

Glancing again at his boyfriend, a smile formed on his face. It was so strange to see Magolor like this, so vulnerable, so peaceful, so happy. He'd let his guard down, fallen asleep in his presence, all because Magolor trusted him.

Taranza doubted that he would ever receive a greater honor in his life.

He quickly sat up again, taking care not to disturb Magolor, before curling up against him. There was a slight hesitation, then Taranza leaned towards his companion's head before placing a delicate kiss on it. Embracing him in their cocoon of sheets, the gardener murmured gentle words of comfort.

"Good night, my beautiful cosmic prince. Sweet dreams."

And with that, Taranza joined Magolor in the land of dreams, each eager to wake up in the other's arms.

For those of you who enjoyed my Kirby fic “Dream Rain,” I have quite a few other fics planned for the Socially Awkward Magolor series! Here are their titles and summaries!

Sleep Over Where?: Sequel to Dream Rain. Kirby and Magolor are stuck inside due to a thunderstorm. With these conditions, the Starcutter can’t sail to pick up its captain. But Kirby has the solution: a sleepover! There’s one little problem, though. Magolor doesn’t know what that is or what it entails.

Party Corner: There’s a party at Dedede Castle and Magolor is surprised to get an invite. When he arrives however, his nerves get the better of him when he finds himself surrounded by people he doesn’t know. He retreats to a isolated corner where he plans to hide, but it turns out this corner is already occupied. By Meta Knight.

Join Me for Tea and Lies: Magolor visits the Halberd to see Meta Knight. During their get-together, Magolor is forced to tell a little fib about himself, which Meta Knight quickly catches on to. Now the knight is determined to expose the truth. Magolor lied to him once, he’s not about to fall for it again.

Magolor feels his brain swirl and settle, the gravity disconnecting in the space between planets.

The moment spent in a lack of space is so brief that for that time, his brain could no longer think.

But it always passes.

He believes himself ready to move, until he sits up again. The gag can't be held back. Ahh... my insides always settle last after all. I forgot.

Even so, he holds it in the best he can, and shakingly proceeds forward. He has no idea if he'd be lucky enough to find food on this planet.

In the horizon, past the alien wilderness, his widened eyes focus upon deliberate structures, tall enough to prove a town. A society. Could it even be a city?

So I can eat, after all. Bubbling relief is smothered in the new anxiety of having to meet another society. This time, he mustn't steal and hide in the shadows, as easy as it is. He must win the hearts of kind, functional people.

If I steal, they'll all hate me. And shun me out from food.

And being with vagabonds is dangerous.

...Isn't that what I am?

He feels something in his chest threaten to crumble. Magolor steels his nerves, and steps forward, instead.

...

The sack aches his back in tandem with every movement closer to his respite. His head throbbing.

The city still sits on the edge of the horizon. Not much closer, but the sky is now half dark. He can't even find help before nightfall...

He can't sleep out here. Not yet.

I'm so sleepy.

His traitorous heart brings his mother and father before his sight, for a moment.

But Magolor must keep it together. There is no other option.

His head hurts with an unfamiliar, unnatural sensation; One that can't be explained just from lack of sleep.

His eyes drag on the ground.

When spell batteries are used for magic, they behave unpredictably, he recalls from his book. They still take magic from anything surrounding the area. the ground, the ingredients... the casters.

If I don't have enough magic for the spell to take within my body, what does it take, instead?

His eyes rub raw, reminded of his nightmares. Darkening more and more every time he manages to sleep.

He practically drags his body on the chalky mud below him, now, and finds himself tripped over a large rock. There is no effort to get up. His face contorts in the ground.

What is there left to hope for, anymore?

Images of his parents linger again. It's not fair.

He can't die yet. Not before doing something they can be proud of him for.

So you can come back. His eyelids pull themselves shut. The sight of his parents waving before vanishing into light is trudged up. Again. Again.

I'll prove to you that you can love me.

...

"...!"

The sensation of his ear being touched fires his nerves, shooting his body up and away from the source.

He slams into a tree in panic, gasping in shock, registering the sight of a lifeform before him.

Their hand is merely held out in surprise, eyes shining in concern.

"Are you...? ... Of course you're not alright..." They back up in a pacifying gesture, letting Magolor's fright or flight partially melt away. Though they pull away, their hand gently floats closely to offer help.

"How old are you?"

"....."

Magolor doesn't know how to talk normally. He would answer honestly, but...

He sweats st the outstretched hand before him. Every time he has requested food, a new spell battery, and to take books a planet has on Ancient knowledge, he is droven out.

Left in the shadows, the very same outcome as when he decides to steal from the beginning.

If I say the truth, will this person hate me?

Their stare is unbearable.

"... That's okay, then. You don't have to tell me. Do you know where you are? Or... what you need?"

I can't tell them, Magolor dreads, but I have to think of something, I...

"I... I'm looking for my..."

At the thought, he finally feels his chest shatter. And the tears finally flow over his cheeks.

"My mom... and dad," His hands even reach up to conceal his silent crying, broken suddenly by a hard sob. The stranger suddenly looks overwhelmed, the last of their caution melting away into a tender sympathy.

Sympathy made just for lost children.

Something turns in Magolor's head.

"Ahh... It's okay! You're safe now, so just..." Magolor flinches at the larger hand pushing his back, seeming to effortlessly hold him up. He spots his sack getting picked up by their other hand.

For what seems to be all I have, you would...

"I can take you somewhere warm. So we'll find your parents, okay?"

It must be the first time he unlocked this sickening feeling.

Honesty is no good. But if victims are loved...

He musters up a weak smile past the mess in his head.

"Okay..."

They respond with a reassuring smile back, they look up to the sky, to which Magolor imitates.

It's night now.

And before he processes it, they move swiftly into the forest, holding Magolor close.

Ahh... he thinks dazedly. It's a perfect act.

The stars aren't visible on this planet, either.
