A Drive to Malakkappara from Athirapally
Malakkappara is a hill station in the state of Kerala. There are 3 dams located on the way to Malakkappara. Peringalkuth Dam, Sholayar Dam and Upper Sholayar Dam.
The road to Malakkappara is very narrow and there are bamboo trees on both sides of the road. There are chances to see elephants on both sides of the road.
On the way we can see the penstoke pipes of Sholayar Project. Once you reach the top of Malakkapara, we can see the catchment area of the Sholayar Dam.
From Chalakudy first you need to cross Athirapally and Vazhachal. From the Kerala check post in Vazhachal, you need to get a pass to travel through the Sholayar Reserve Forest. You need to reach the malakkapara with in 2 Hours.

There are places you can travel like in a meditation. One of them is the Valparai - Pollachi journey.  Valparai can be reached by traveling 64 km from Pollachi. To reach Valparai, one has to climb a pass full of 40 sharp curves. The journey has to go through a forest where elephants and other animals are likely to get on the road. If you go down to Malakkappara, the first destination, you can have tea. If you want to see the mist-covered Malakkappara and the tribal festival, you have to visit it in the months of June-July. A breathtaking view of many coffee plantations and tea estates awaits you at Valparai. Valparai is one of the most beautiful destinations for bikers. Especially the Royal Enfield bike riders are the best. valparai on royal enfield are the best trips. Valparai is also a great valley for off rides. The view from the Pollachi route is breathtaking. Vazhachal Malakkappara route View [ Thrissur, Kerala, India ]
Typically tourists visit only up to Vazhachal. Beyond Vazhachal, it is dense forest and you need to cross the Kerala forest check post. The check post is open from 6 morning - 6 evening only. There is a lot of red tape at this check post just to keep track of the plastic bottles you are carrying. You also need to sign a register including the details of your journey. A guy from the forest department will inspect your car for recording number of water bottles and number of plastic covers. He will record them in a form and will give it to you. You need to show this at the exit check post near malakkappara.  Malakkappara in Thrissur district is a tea town bordering the neighbouring state of Tamilnadu. A small hill station surrounded by Parambikulam Tiger Reserve, Anamalai Tiger Reserve and Nelliampathy hills, Malakkapara is where the famous SholayarRiver drains. This hill station is located enroute to Athirappally from Sholayar forest. Most of the people living in Malakkappara are tea estate workers. They either speak Malayalam or English languages.
