Mara has these photos on the wall of the farmhouse. Big, 8 x 10" framed prints Lucas and Olivia grew up passing every night on their way to bed. Plenty of photos were on the walls, but these two burrowed deep into Luc's subconscious the most.
His parents - young, bright and shiny - They had met when they were barely into their 20's and bound their lives together instantly. They build a home and a life together, brought home their twins before they were 30 and raised them with love and patience - and a strong sense of duty.
Both served the Alliance with distinction and valour, climbing through the ranks but never forgetting what really mattered - Life. Home. Family.
The top brass offered Luc and Mara a memorial 12 months after the ship carrying his parents and his husband disappeared into the rift.
Both declined.

Unintentionally gained a new god during our last session because Mara unknowingly broke her oaths, died, and was then reincarnated before she could be properly punished.

Here’s a bust and a full body sketch of my d&d character Mara Valour in her casual wear. I hope to draw her in her full body armor holding her great sword, Valdar, soon. Mara is a half-elf (half human, half drow) paladin whose gods consist of Deneir, the god of knowledge and scholars, and Helm, the god of protection. She’s a scholar/historian of the island Amitola, which is an island centered around the acquisition of knowledge and research. The island has strict traveling laws for its citizens, but she was allowed to leave her home so that she may acquire any knowledge pertaining to and recover the legendary swords Aetherius and Excalibur. Like many scholars in Amitola, she hopes to one day become one of the members of the Council of Amitola. Hmu with any questions you may have of her. I also have a few previous questions answered in my main.

'Quite an honour': Cape Breton WWII vet, 96, receives Quilt of Valour
A Second World War veteran in Cape Breton received a special handmade gift honouring his service on Sunday.
At the age of 96, Greg MacNeil is the last surviving Second World War veteran at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 78 in Dominion, and for that he received the Quilt of Valour.
“It’s very good. It’s quite an honour,” says MacNeil
The Quilt of Valour is handmade to thank and support those who served. These works of are, each a tribute to the service and sacrifice of the recipient.
MacNeil says he was assigned one of the most dangerous jobs on the day the war ended.
“I was an infantry signaler and the first fella they’d take out would be you, rather than take out an officer,” recalled MacNeil.
Rhoda Moore is with the Quilts of Valours society in Halifax and made the trip to Cape Breton for the presentation.
She says there are approximately 185,000 Veterans, many of whom are eligible to receive a Quilt of Valour. She says to date the society has presented nearly 16,000 quilts.
“We try to have in some cases a theme, so lots of quilts will come with something like this one, with something to do with Canada. We will use fabrics that have a Canadian theme or the story of the quilt will be along those lines,” said Moore.
MacNeil’s daughter Monica says the pandemic has taken its toll on her father.
In the past year he’s lost the ability to walk, and is not as mobile as he used to be pre-covid19. But his spirits are much better now that restrictions have started to ease - and he is looking forward to attending Remembrance Day ceremonies in his community.
“This year we will be able to take him out. We will be able to take him to the legion ceremony, which he attended every year, except for the last two years because of COVID,” says Monica MacNeil.
Greg MacNeil celebrated his 96th birthday this past May, with police, family, friends and members of the community parading past Taigh-Na-Mara nursing home.
This quilt is another way to say thank you.
“Just in time for Remembrance Day. It will come in handy. I’ll have to wear it over my back.” said MacNeil.
For now, it’s a salute to a veteran who gave us the freedom we enjoy today.

Reasons to love Irish-7
The very first poem of Ireland invokes all that we are and is wonderful - magic!
The Song of Amergin from the Book of Leinster
Am gáeth i mmuir. ar domni.
Am tond trethan i tír.
Am fúaim mara.
Am dam secht ndírend.
Am séig i n-aill.
Am dér gréne.
Am caín.
Am torc ar gail.
Am hé i llind.
Am loch i maig
Am briandai.
Am bri danae.
Am gai i fodb. feras feochtu.
Am dé delbas do chind codnu.
Coiche nod gleith clochur slébe.
Cia on cotagair aesa éscai
Cia dú i llaig funiud grene.
Cia beir búar o thig Temrach.
Cia buar Tethrach.
Cia dain.
Cia dé delbas faebru. a ndind ailsiu.
Cáinté im gaí cainte gaithe. Am.
J. Carey’s translation: from The Celtic Heroic Age (2003)
I am a wind in the sea (for depth)
I am a sea-wave upon the land (for heaviness)
I am the sound of the sea (for fearsomeness)
I am a stag of seven combats (for strength)
I am a hawk upon a cliff (for agility)
I am a tear-drop of the sun (for purity)
I am fair (i.e. there is no plant fairer than I)
I am a boar for valour (for harshness)
I am a salmon in a pool (for swiftness)
I am a lake in a plain (for size)
I am the excellence of arts (for beauty)
I am a spear that wages battle with plunder.
I am a god who froms subjects for a ruler
Who explains the stones of the mountains?
Who invokes the ages of the moon?
Where lies the setting fo the sun?
Who bears cattle from the house of Tethra?
Who are the cattle of Tethra who laugh?
What man, what god forms weapons?
Indeed, then;
I invoked a satirist…
a satirist of wind.

For the ask thing: Abbey Bominable, Twyla, and Darling Charming? (If we're allowed to pick three.)
You can definitely choose three. Abbey Bominable
Sexuality Headcanon: This girl is definitely pansexualGender Headcanon: Female. I’m down for her being either cis or trans.A ship I have with said character: Heath/Abbey absolute otp for her. I really enjoy the idea of ice with fire as well as his silly nature paired with her more serious tone. I feel like they really balance each other out. That said, I’m down for Abbey/Frankie or Abbey/CA CupidA BROTP I have with said character: Abbey&GhouliaA NOTP I have with said character: Uhh idk. Abbey/Unhappiness?A random headcanon: Abbey is absolutely hairier, taller, heavier, and more muscular than her doll/cartoon self is portrayed. She is one of the tallest students at the school and does not hesitate to use her strength to prevent bullying if she sees it. General Opinion over said character: I love her. She is my absolute favorite and the reboot version of her is not the same in both design and va. It’s like she’s a new ghoul to me. Would probably die for her.
Twyla Boogeyman
Sexuality Headcanon: Lesbian, potentially homoromantic aceGender Headcanon: Female. I’m also down for nb and demigirl Twyla.A ship I have with said character: Howleen/Twyla, hands down.A BROTP I have with said character: Twyla&Spectra, Twyla&GigiA NOTP I have with said character: Twyla/any of the mansters or anyone seriously older than her. A random headcanon: Her eyes glow iridescently in the dark. General Opinion over said character: I probably relate to her the most out of all of the ghouls. Voice mannerisms and behaviours are similar to me irl. I’ve also always had a soft spot for boogeymen monsters.Darling CharmingSexuality Headcanon: LESBIANGender Headcanon: FemaleA ship I have with said character: Apple/Darling is probably my fave, but I’m also down with a number of Darling/Princess ships. A BROTP I have with said character: Darling&Dexter, Darling&RavenA NOTP I have with said character: Darling/either of her siblings. I haven’t seen it but I don’t trust fandoms not to do it. Darling/any prince. A random headcanon: She actively does things that people say girls/princesses/damsels can’t do out of sheer spite. It’s her main motivation even if no one can know she’s accomplished/tried to do all of these things at some point.General Opinion over said character: Favorite in EAH hands down. I love the idea of a femme knight and applaud the fact that she’s strong, fierce, fights with armor and a sword yet dresses effeminately. A lot of times people compensate by making them “one of the boys”. She actually inspired the creation of my DnD chara, Mara Valour.

OC Fact Swap: Although Mara Valour doesn't have many memories of her father before his death (he died when she was around 3), she cherishes these few memories. She has a massive sense of respect for the man.
Ohhh...
Let’s see. You gave me something about family so I’ll give you something about family.
I can’t do the one I really want to do cause my players all follow me on here.
So lets go with, Hope. Hope’s mother stopped talking to her when she started school (in a different state) for fashion/costume design. But started talking to her again, and felt terrible for not talking to her, when she learned she was engaged to Beatrice. Knowing what her mother had been upset about, mended the bridge between them.

HEY GUYS I’M BACK WITH SOME SKYRIM/OLD NORSE STUDIES
SO JORRVASKR IS TOTES OLD NORSE RIGHT
Some people have translated it as ‘Swords and valour’ which would make some sense for a historic vessel/hall, or ‘valiant boar’ which I mean sure I guess that could make some sort of sense boars are strong and hardy.
WELL LET ME TELL YOU GUYS.
LET ME THROW MY HAT INTO THE RING
‘CAUSE I CRACKED THE CASE GUYS
So first things first let’s split Jorrvaskr into it’s separate morphological components, which ain’t jorr+vaskr but jor+r+vaskr
Taken like that, I would propose that jor comes from the ON jór (As from what we can see in Skyrim they use the Latin alphabet without any of the unique Germanic characters and accents) meaning ‘horse’
But where did the extra ‘r’ come from?
Well, Old Norse, like many Germanic languages, is an inflected language, meaning that the meaning of a sentence isn’t determined by word order, as Modern English is, but by different endings affixed onto nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbs to determine grammatical functions. An inflection in Old Norse could tell you the Gender (not connected to actual gender apart from in personal names) Case (whether it is the subject, object, possessor, or prepositional) and Number (whether it’s stand alone or plural).
jór is a Masculine noun. If it functions as a nominative (subject) noun and is singular, then it takes the inflectional ending -r
SO THERE WE HAVE IT WE GOT JORR BOOYAH WHAT ABOUT VASKR???
Well, yeah everyone translated vaskr right it means valiant/valour screw you guys academia is all about building off of other people’s work.
So, we have ‘Valiant horse’ which makes as much sense as ‘Valiant boar’ which is kind of anti-climactic
BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE
So in Old Norse poetry they used these things called ‘kennings’ which simply put are very oblique metaphors used to refer to people, places, and things, so you have things like ‘grennir gunn-más‘ which translates literally as ‘feeder of the war gull’ but actually means ‘warrior’. It makes translating poetry a pain let me tell you.
Ok so Jorrvaskr is physically an upturned longboat right?
Guess what a common kenning for ships and boats was?
IF YOU GUESSED HORSE/STEED THEN UR DEAD FUCKING RIGHT M8
YOU WANT SOME EXAMPLES??? I’LL GIVE YOU EXAMPLES
‘Ek mun ganga to gjalfr-mara’- Hervararkviða (stanza 27)
‘I shall go to the sea-steed (aka SHIP)
‘Hrjóðr lét hæstrar tíðar  harðráðr skipa bǫrðum  bôru fáks ins bleika  barnungr á lǫg þrungit,  þar svát barsk at borði  (borðhǫlkvi rak norðan)  hlífar valdr til hildar  (hregg) dǫglinga tveggja’- Glymdrapa (stanza 3)
‘The hard-ruling clearer of the (bôru fáks) pale horse of the wave (ship) when he was a young child, had ship's prows put out to sea at the best time so that the owner of the shield (Haraldr) travelled on board there into battle against two rulers, the storm drove the (borðhǫlkvi- Holkvir is the name of a legendary hero’s horse) plank horse (ship) from the north'
THEREFORE ‘JORRVASKR’ CAN ALSO BE TRANSLATED AS VALIANT SHIP I REST MY FUCKING CASE
P.s. if you want to hear me butcher the Old Norse go here: https://youtu.be/MLIvmabOzrs?t=4m7s

Very proud of my new Mara Valour redesign as a result of her being reincarnated to a tiefling. Ironically I made her look more like her mother without meaning to.  If only I had access to a proper scanner to show her off.  If anyone ever wants to know more about Mara, the Paladin of Amitola (an island of archivists and researchers), hmu.

23: how they act when they’re sick
I’ll actually get to explore this soon because recently it’s been secretly implemented that my character has developed asthma as a result of entering the toxic clouds of the sky ocean in an attempt to save their wounded friend that fell overboard. I crit failed two rolls and Mara eventually passed out (but didn’t die). We try to have consequences if you are downed (usually in the form of scars) and so my DM and I talked in private about what should be a consequence and determined scarred lung tissue was the most reasonable. I’m not gonna go too much in depth because one of our players follows me on tumblr and I’m hoping he doesn’t see this.
That said, I imagine Mara to be a bit more quiet about mild discomforts. She’d try to play it off as a minor inconvenience, more concerned about the other party members than her own health. If she feels like her party members need her on a mission, she’d go regardless of her state of health. If she’s contagious, she’d isolate herself. Potentially play some of it off as reviewing her archives for her own personal quest rather than having a cold and scared it’d spread throughout the ship she’s traveling in to her crew members. In response to this ask: [X]

Note
For the Describe Your OC meme, multiples of 5.
5. Their shortcomingsMara is a little naive despite living all of her life (all 23 years) on Amitola, an island whose culture is hyperfocused on the collection of knowledge. Amitola prevents its citizens from traveling outside of its island without the proper authorization and so her “real world” experiences are limited.
Mara also has trouble admitting when she’s wrong. She’s stubborn and will not move an inch if she thinks her actions or someone else’s actions will endanger others.
In addition, Mara has trouble being romantic. Although she has a girlfriend, the stories of knights (the topic of which she was assigned to study) doesn’t help one orchestrate a relationship after you save a girl from danger. Thus she feels very inadequate in the relationship (even if she doesn’t voice it), though she tries her best.
10: their fashion senseMara Valour isn’t afraid to look effeminate. She often has her long hair tied up in a top-bun, one loose strand of hair is braided.
She always wears her prescription glasses whose lenses are tinted purple and whose frames are made of gold. She has a beaded eyeglass chain connected so she doesn’t lose them in a fight. On the sides of the frames is the symbol of Deneir, the god of knowledge. One of the two gods she worships. She likes to wear clothing that flows and drapes well on her frame. Her favorite colors are pale pinks, blues, and purples. She regularly wears makeup, preferring red lipstick and pink blush.
Because she has taken the Oath of the Ancients, she often has flowers and plants tucked into her belts and sometimes her hair. Her armors are of a golden hue. If she’s wearing her casual clothing she has some armor on one of her arms with Helm’s symbol on the shoulder (the other god she worships, one of protection) and if she’s wearing her full blown armor Helm’s eye is on her gauntlets.
15: how they react to a brainfreezeShe wouldn’t try to make a huge fuss about it, keeping quiet but clearly showing a sign of discomfort on her face. She’s had worse such as being gored by an undead Minotaur.
20: their reaction to a mystery love letterMara’s first assumption wouldn’t be that it’s for her. Potentially from someone’s lover a long time ago never sent to their intended destination? Or a voice of longing because one’s love is unrequited?
She’d hold on to it to examine its historical value and also because she’s a romantic at heart even though she doesn’t know how to properly express it.
25: why you enjoy themShe’s a fun character to play. I’ve thought long and hard about how she’d respond to different “evils” we might encounter and create her in such a way that’d stay true to her paladin nature without making her a stereotypical paladin that tries to destroy everything that’s perceived as evil by the majority. For instance, she doesn’t care whether or not people perform necromancy or use eldritch magic. She only cares about whether or not it’d put others in danger. When our party ventured into a necromancer’s layer she was quicker to lecture on the importance of maintaining a lab because it was in a state of mess due to her negligence rather than what experiments she was performing.
In addition, her island is super interesting to expand upon. So far I’ve managed to make the other party members extremely nervous about it after it was revealed there were four tenants all citizens follow. One party member went from calling the island perfect to a fascist regime and I’m living on their mixed responses because only I and my DM know its inner workings (and a little bit of one of our party members cuz he helped me out with the tenants creation).
Finally, I’ve put a little bit of myself into her character as well as taking some inspiration from the character Darling Charming (whom I love with all of my heart).

four the OC abcs thing (for Mara, specifically): A4, C3, F1, N4, P5, Z1
A: Aptitude
4.  How old are they?
Mara is 23 years old. She’s very young. Just shy from becoming a full-fledged adult as a half-elf (half human, half drow). Her interactions with the world and all of the personal mistakes she has made both as a person and as a paladin reflect that.C: Comfort
3. what is their ideal comfort day?Wrapped up in a blanket enjoying a cup of tea as she reads some classic fairy tales surrounding knights (which count as research for her, but also has some entertainment value). A lot of these books often have tales outside of her research, which acts as a rare and special treat. Before Genna’s death, she would include spending some time with her but with her gone, she would definitely fair better being around Bane (their Captain/her best friend) and Al (the construct who had lived during Argur’s time, in part). Maybe attempt to dance with a few of her fellow crew members in her off time.F: Fun1. what do they do for fun?Mara is definitely a reader and enjoys research, but outside of that she likes to dance, listen to music, and fence. She was one of the best fencers on her island prior to departing for the search of Excalibur (with the proper permission of course). She’s not used to having this much freedom and is still struggling to expand beyond her comfort zone but she might attempt to partake in what her other crewmembers like to do, such as playing this really complex and nearly nonsensical game of dragon chess that Big Bo, Bane, and Al like to play. She also intends to become penpals with her mentor now that she knows he’s alive.N: Never Have I Ever4. what is the most embarrassing thing they’ve done?I’ve already answered this bad boy in a previous ask which can be found here: CLICKP: Personality
5. do they hate anything about their personality/about other’s personalities?
Mara has a lot of insecurities regarding approaching a romantic relationship. This was so out of her comfort zone that she felt inadequate almost the entire time with Genna. She hadn’t even told her that she wasn’t sure if Genna was happy at the pace they were going and never intended to ask once Genna became sick because caring for her became her first priority. In addition, she has trouble saying that she’s wrong. She has barely acknowledged it due to pride (and quite honestly a high ego she’s not aware she has). As a result, she hasn’t been able to overcome that issue. As for other’s personalities, she cannot stand those that act dismissive towards ones life experiences. It was one of the biggest reasons she disliked Loreilla. Loreilla hated her home country and greatly disliked Mara but did not take the time to ever understand her perspective and why her island ran the way it did or why Mara thought the way she thought. She too got greatly annoyed with Bane when he started challenging Al’s perspective when she was interviewing him about his memories.Z: Zebra
1. what’s their favorite animal? She hasn’t had much of an opportunity to interact with animals (and those she has are usually deadly) but based on her personality and whathaveyou, I imagine she’d be very fond of rabbits if she ever met one.

N for Mara
N: Never Have I Ever1. what would they never do?Mara would never intentionally betray her friends nor her island.2. what have they never done that they want to do?Mara would still give anything to find the sword of Excalibur so she can hopefully get a seat on the Council (leaders of Amitola, which is a meritocracy). In addition, hear the words “I’m proud of you” from her mother. 3. is there anything they absolutely can’t believe people do?Gonna be frank due to the very nature of her first captain: Sleep with total strangers on the first meeting. Mara is still a virgin (circumstances made it difficult for her and her girlfriend to ever consider taking it to the next step) and her island isn’t necessarily the most promiscuous of places, so it was super strange seeing her Captain bring someone new to the bedroom every night.4. what is the most embarrassing thing they’ve done? The most embarrassing thing that Mara has ever done is a close tie between two events. She attempted to Speak with Animals with a Leviathan in order to use the Command spell. Her will was too weak and it resulted in her mind being completely taken over. She ended up biting into the shoulder of her then-Captain. The other event was that when she was infiltrating a Gala, she lost the mask that was outfitted with her glasses lenses. So for the rest of the session she couldn’t see very well and did not have her holy symbol on her for Deneir (Cue my party members shouting “I can’t see without my glasses” in the most annoying nerdy voice possible).5. have they done anything they thought they’d never do?This whole journey has been an adventure for Mara faced with a lot of things she thought she’d never do. For 23 years of her life she was on an island surrounded by books (for her it was geared towards History). Of all the events thus far I think the ones that stand out are:
-Having a girlfriend, specifically one not from Amitola.
-Attempting to kill a crew member for making one too many chaotic decisions that have endangered the crew (she didn’t follow through. Instead their captain almost killed the both of them by launching them into the Great Sky Ocean)
-Meeting and fighting alongside someone that had been the right-hand man for King Argur and used Excalibur (the sword she’s been searching for). She actually thinks of him as a friend.
-Hugging her mentor (Pipin Digbert) after over a year wondering if he was dead. He’s basically like her dad.
-Keeping secrets from her own island.
-Dying and becoming resurrected. Failing her gods and entering a road to redemption.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the askbox for the last 10 people who reblogged something from you. Spread the positivity! ♡
Five things that make me happy include
1.) Playing dungeons and dragons. I meet up online every Saturday to play my character(s) Akmenos Galanodel and Mara Valour. We’ve been in this campaign for well over a year now and I love these two characters very much.2) My dogs Lily (mystery mix) and Moose (Burmese Mountain Dog-Border Collie mix). Moose, in particular, adores me. He often wakes me up with kisses.
3) Drawing. In particular, I draw a lot of fanart. Either of different series (usually Red vs Blue or Monster High) or of my own DnD characters. If anyone ever wants to check out my art, feel free to check out my instagram or side account.
4) Entomology. I really enjoy the practice of going out into the woods, capturing specimens, and pinning them/identifying them. Insects are absolutely gorgeous and cute and wonderful. I really hope to do something with them for a career, preferably not pest control related but if I must I must.
5.) Costuming. I looove to cosplay. My favorite costumes at the moment are my Nott the Brave, Taako Taaco, and Kenny McCormick cosplay. It’s been awhile since I’ve last gone to a convention due to money issues (student loans have kicked in as I take a break to gather experience before going for a masters). I’ve been cosplaying since 2012 if we don’t count Halloween.
